Launching her new show “Legacy” at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival right now, Michelle Brasier completes a trilogy of heartfelt, philosophical and very funny one-woman shows about loss and forgiveness, which includes the multi-award winning “Average Bear”.
We talk about her work with purveyors of sketch carnage Aunty Donna, and discover why drama school rejects have all the fun. We also discuss her secret fears that she’s doing some kind of TEDTalk and can’t write proper jokes; about main character syndrome and the “fraud cycle”; and why people will be commenting “one of the boys!” under everything she ever puts out, for the rest of her life…
15mins of extra content available exclusively to the Insiders Club include Michelle on her interaction with strangers after the powerful energy that suffuses “Average Bear”, and how she safeguards herself in such intimate connections, and her unique perspective on clowning, chaos, and exactly what makes the Aunty Donna boys such special little guys…

385 – Aaron Chen
A quite brilliant stand-up, with gloriously unique and surprising one-liners, Aaron Chen started comedy incredibly young, and was already working to shed every ounce of hackery while still in his teens. As well as his deeply alt roots and proclivity to experiment with comedy forms, he is also a master of the internally collapsing vox pop, pushing through the soul-crushing rejections to a place of genuine brilliance. We talk about his early experiments with ultra-awkwardness, his astounding YouTube figures, why he searches for the one-line joke in every story, and discover why he never performs in Chinese, despite his huge Chinese audience. Zach, Mark and Broden return to the podcast on one of the last stops of the campaign trail for their new Netflix special “Aunty Donna’s Big Ol’ House Of Fun”. It’s an extraordinary achievement, as they bring exactly what’s brilliant about their live work to the TV, and it will have you breathless with laughter.
Purveyors of, in the words of one ComCom fan, “Dubstep Python”, they reveal all about the first edit of the show where no one laughed, choosing authenticity over perfection, why none of the context matters, and how they managed to make a TV show without compromising on anything. 25 minutes of extra content available exclusively to members of the Insiders Club includes the boys on the polarising ability of their work, which sketch grabs new fans most successfully, their three-take system for improvising on camera, and how much pud is a little bit of pud… Go to www.comedianscomedian.com/insiders for this and much more, including the exclusive Insiders Q&A with James Acaster. "America's Funnyman" Neil Hamburger is the disturbing comic creation of Gregg Turkington; deeply funny, vile and poignant in equal measure. Ordinarily reluctant to talk about his alter-ego, Gregg gradually uncovers his love for outsider art, and the qualities he considers genius. We learn about the origins of Neil in prank phone calls and fake live shows, the comedy he can't stand and why, and the utterly original concept behind his live albums. Over 30mins of extra content available exclusively to members of the Insiders Club include Gregg on being booed onto the stage supporting Tenacious D at Reading Festival, and how it meant no more to him than a crowd at Madison Square Garden chanting his name! Jim Jefferies Expands ‘Give ‘Em What They Want’ Tour of Australia
Jim Jefferies will give ‘em more of what they want, as the Australian funnyman extends his homecoming tour.
Jefferies’ trek this August adds three new regional dates, swinging into Geelong, Newcastle and Canberra, according to Frontier Touring and More Talent, producers of the “Give ‘Em What They Want Tour.”
According to both companies, six shows on the previously-announced itinerary have already sold out, including a date at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena.
Tickets for the new shows will go on sale next Monday, June 3 from 11am local time via frontiertouring.com/jimjefferies .
Frontier Members get early access via the presale platform, which opens its virtual doors Friday, May 31 at 11am local time.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jim Jefferies (@jimjefferies)
The Sydney-born, Perth-raised funnyman last toured these parts in 2022 for 27 sold-out shows across Australia and New Zealand.
With his freewheeling use of profanity (and a predilection for the C-word) and sharp political satire, Jefferies’ career blew up when his “gun control” sketch went viral on YouTube.
Today, he’s one of the most in-demand comedians on the planet, in a booming business for stand-up, playing the world’s biggest rooms, including Madison Square Garden and London’s The O2, and having them laugh in the aisles at Edinburgh Fringe, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Reading and Leeds, and Glastonbury.
It’s hard to miss the man on the small screen. He’s clocked up nine Netflix specials; helmed “The Jim Jefferies Show,” which ran for three seasons from 2017 to 2019; and fronts hit homegrown game show “The 1% Club” for free-to-air Channel 7.

Tour company, colonial memorial among those honoured at Queensland Reconciliation Awards
On a quiet bush property in Far North Queensland, visitors are learning about a way of life that sustained traditional owners here for tens of thousands of years.
The city of Cairns is a short boat ride away across the bay but it is here where new connections are being made between the Mandingalbay Yidinji people and the 5,500 tour guests they receive each year — three-quarters of whom come from overseas.
"Country belongs to us and we belong to it," explained Dale Mundraby, operations manager at the Mandingalbay Yidinji Aboriginal Corporation.
"In terms of ownership, that's that respect, and people who come and share that experience get a really better understanding of what that is."
The Mandingalbay Yidinji have been operating cultural tours at East Trinity for more than two years, but the business was a vision two decades in the making.
Among the team of guides are three young mothers, who have returned to the workforce to share the stories of their country.
"We want to make a social impact and smash the welfare cycle, having self-independence and autonomy through delivering a cultural experience on country," Mr Mundraby said.
Mandingalbay Yidinji Aboriginal Corporation's achievements were recognised with a business prize at the Queensland Reconciliation Awards presented in Cairns on Monday night.
Tour guide Joanne Mundraby said the venture was "a good opportunity for everyone".
"We do see a big future, not just creating employment, not just for Mundingalbay Yidinji but Indigenous people from all over and creating those big job titles for up-and-coming elders like myself," she said.
Nation first memorial honoured
As part of National Reconciliation Week, events are held across the country to promote a greater awareness of First Nations culture and history and to strengthen relationships with non-Indigenous Australians.
It's held each year from May 27 to June 3, marking the dates of the 1967 referendum to recognise Indigenous Australians in the Constitution and the High Court's Mabo decision.
This year's Reconciliation Week is the first since October's failed referendum on an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
The Butchulla Men's Business Aboriginal Association was recognised at the awards ceremony for its memorial dedicated to the Butchulla warriors who defended their country in the Frontier Wars during colonisation.
The memorial, unveiled last year on Butchulla country in Maryborough, was the first of its kind anywhere in Australia.
Association founder Glen Miller said it was an honour to win the Premier's Reconciliation Award.
The men's business group also runs camps for boys and their fathers and was founded to help connect Butchulla people with culture.
"Many a night, us men sat around the campfire talking about the things in our community that concerned us and we were all concerned about our young men," Mr Miller said.
"We've positively influenced quite a number of young boys who've given up their social media stuff and joined the army, gone to boxing, or come down to Ravens Hill and do stuff with us men and go fishing."
Abergowrie State School in North Queensland, which partnered with Warrgamay traditional owners to establish a native bush tucker garden and introduce Warrgamay language into its curriculum, won the education award.
The health and wellbeing award went to Cape York health service Apunipima and the Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service for a kidney care program.
Isa Rodeo Limited and Mona Aboriginal Corporation won the partnership category for the Mount Isa Indigenous Rodeo Championships.
