Jesus, is Roger McGuinn stick kicking about? It’s been almost fifty bloody years since The Byrds released their big break out Turn! Turn! Turn! (To Everything There is a Season).

Back then your dad was still a bloody zygote. It’d be another fifteen years before he got into the acid and heavy metal, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith et. al. that present-day occasional stoner dad likes to recall in those rosy anecdotes.

Now think about how bloody old that makes Roger McGuinn. Bloody ancient. Seventy-bloody-two, in fact. And he’s still traipsing about doing the one-man-band thing everywhere from Tucson to Cheltenham to bloody Utrecht.

He’s not all geriatric like Bob Dylan, with that thousand-yard vacant stare peddling the recent material that is frankly bloody awful. In fact McGuinn hasn’t brought out an album in a while; one in the last twenty years. He just jams out his favourites to a highly receptive crowd. They’re mostly oldies, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Here are a generation celebrating their glory days. Vietnam, San Fran, Cuba, plastics, airlines, TV advertisements, Apollo 11, The Troubadour, Portobello Road and The Byrds. Play on you bloody legend, you’ve miles in you yet.

Mcguinn's "Storytellers" style solo show is always a pleasure and this show was no exception...it included a great frailing 5string long neck banjo version of the standard "Silver Dagger", wonderful versions of Byrd's classics "My Back Pages", "Bell's of Ryhmney", Chimes of Freedom" and many, many others. My personal favorite "Chestnut Mare" conjured the response flat picking licks of the late great Clarence White in my mind's ear...and then there was the beautiful, show stopping encore tribute to Tom Petty. Malibu was transformed last night at Roger McGuinn's show from the sad scene of TP's lonesome cardiac arrest...Ric 12 for "So You Wanna Be a R&R Star" (a song younger folks often think is a TP cover when he plays it) Martin 7 string on the Heartbreakers' "American Girl" (a staple in McGuinn's solo shows) and a heartbreaking "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" which was the closer on the European tour in '87ish when TP&the HB's backed McGuinn, did their set and then backed Dylan every night...what a bill). A worthy tribute to a great man!

Just got to see Roger in NH! Having seen about 5 concerts over the last 20 years, this was the best I have seen from him. I liked that Camilla was out in the lobby before & after the show with ALL his CD's and all were autographed. I was a little bummed as in the past, I was able to get a personal autograph but it was easier. Plus Roger like all of us is not getting any younger - LOL!

What I enjoyed most from his earlier shows is letting us look into his musical life and journey. From touring with the Chad Mitchell Trio to working with Bobby Darin it was awesome and he played with a his usual flair. I was left wanting more which is all you can ask of a performer. Rock On Roger.

Any fan of folk, folk-rock, 60's garage/psych-pop/guitarjangle etc. would love this show...and, of course if you're a Byrds fan...forget about it! McGuinn looks and carries himself a good 20 years younger than his 70 something years of age, he covers essentials, rarities and recent compositions and presents the musical historical context with wonderfully entertaining storytelling and perhaps most delightful, soaks up the audiences applause with such humble appreciation...highlights included: opening with Dylan's "My Back Pages" a LA the Byrds, "Chestnut Mare"(RIP Clarence White), and Roger assigning the audience a complex clap pattern for " Blue" (he taught us well!), amongst many, many others. Catch him when he's near by ...and he's worth a road trip too!

For all the naysayers, too bad you missed it

Having booked live sold out shows @ Lehigh University back in the late 60's like S&G. Airplane, Association among other.

I saw Roger Mcguinn in Worcester , Ma and what a treat it was ! He looked great ! Played great and in between songs told some wonderful and amusing stories . Amazing guitar player !!! I am planning to go see him again in Stuart Fla . Very intimate setting !!! Got there a few minutes late and ushers were given strict instructions by Roger not to seat anyone during a song . So I missed seeing him play "my back pages". If you have a chance you must see Roger Mcguinn . you will be glad you did !!! he is an amazing , extremely talented and very entertaining musician ! If you go , don't get there late !!!!

It was a snooze fest. I could have watched his performance on YOUTUBE. It was word for word and song for song. Sure, I liked all the old Byrd songs but he kept doing all these obscure folk tunes which didn't hold my interest. He came out at 1930 and was off exactly at 2130 which included at 15 minute break. He must get paid by the hour. Overall, not worth what I paid for two tickets. Once was enough. He must perform the exact same show every night. Good grief already.

That's Mr. Bloody Zygote, sir. Actually, I was 17 when I first saw the Byrds in 1966 in Newark, NJ. Fact check: the Byrds big break out wasn't Turn Turn Turn; it was Mr. Tambourine Man in 1965. And McGuinn released a beautiful new album, Sweet Memories, with 8 new songs last year. If it weren't for McGuinn's ingenious use of the Rickenbacker, we may not have had a hundred jangle pop bands since. Check out the new Minus 5 album to hear his influence.

Great show. Could have played the Rickenbacker more but the stories and songs were fantastic.

At 57 years old I seamed to be one of the younger fans there. A couple of people brought their young children. Great way to introduce them to real music from one of the best.

Saw Roger McGuinn at the Higley Center in Gilbert AZ on Saturday... He still sounds great! He played most of the Byrds hits we wanted to hear (but left out several we were expecting) and he was pleasant in his story telling between songs. Well worth the money to see this R&R Legend
