Experience Pamukkale Hot Springs & Ancient Hierapolis

Your day trip to Pamukkale from Marmaris will begin around 7:00 am with a pick-up from your hotel in Marmaris. You will proceed to drive to Pamukkale with an approximate travel duration of around 3.5 hours in a private air-conditioned car driven by a private driver. Upon arrival in Pamukkale, you will meet your professional English-speaking licensed tour guide.

Pamukkale which means ‘cotton castle,’ is a stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site and consists of dazzling white travertine rock terraces that appear to flow down 656-foot (200-meter) cliffs. From a distance, the travertine terraces almost look like snowy cliffs or frozen waterfalls but are mineral deposits from the hot springs in Pamukkale.

You will walk around these fascinating rocks and will see the naturally formed bathing pools while learning about their geology from your tour guide. Views from Pamukkale are unforgettable. You will see the white travertine terraces contrasting with the brown mountains in the distance and will walk up to the Hierapolis, which is an ancient Greco-Roman city with crumbling ruins and geothermic bathing pools.

There will be some free to enjoy the pools at leisure. If you bring your bathing suit, the pools are definitely worth a dip (entrance fee is at your own expense). You can relax in the warm natural springs that are separated by ancient columns. Later on, join your guide for a leisurely walk around the ancient city and see the impressive Classical ruins, such as the Necropolis (Roman burial ground), the vast Roman theater that was capable of seating more than 12,000 people, and St Philippe Martyrion (also known as the Basilica of St Philippe) to learn about this important early Christian sanctuary.

At the end of the tour around 4:00 pm, you will travel back to Marmaris and will be dropped off at your hotel in Marmaris around 8:00 pm.

Optional: You may choose to stop en route to Marmaris for dinner. However, dinner will be paid by yourselves.

The white stone wonderland, which is topped by the ancient city of Hierapolis above, and sitting on the plateau forms the Pamukkale’s main area of interest. The area contains many hot springs and carbonate mineral terraces, also called travertines.

These travertines were formed with the reaction of the calcium and hydrogen carbonate to form calcium carbonate and limestone as a result. This calcium carbonate gives the region and the pools the white coloration.

What to Expect?

You will be picked from your hotel (mostly about 06:30 am.) in Marmaris and make about three hours journey (with break) in an air-conditioned coach for Pamukkale.

You’ll see the white cotton castles of Pamukkale, with the thermal spring water plunging down the mountainside that has created a natural formation of stalactites, cataracts and basins. The thermal waters is believed to have therapeutic powers.

Here, you’ll enjoy these white terraces, travertines, pools and castle-like formations. Also you’ll have chance to swim at the Roman-built Cleopatra’s Pool, one of the many ancient Roman baths in the region.

We were pleased the large ship out of a beautiful bay wasn’t full to capacity or it might have felt too much like a cattle truck. As it was we had plenty of room on the top deck to lounge about and enjoy the short cruise over to Cleopatra island. The special sand is much lauded but it’s the beautiful blue bay, shallow water, and boarded walk around the island!s ancient ruins we enjoyed the most. The lunch on board was great value and enjoyable food and the free flowing soft drinks welcome refreshment. The tour and stops to allow for more swimming and jumping off the boat a delight way to fill a relaxing day. The usual music was blaring. Re-enacted the journey of The African Queen ( who knew it was filmed in Turkey?) Wallowed in the mud baths before relaxing in the thermal pools. The only downside was that immigration clearance took quite long, reducing the time we had to explore Rhodes. Also, please check on the availability of the catamaran on certain days. Apparently it does not operate to Rhodes from Marmaris daily although it was advertised as such online. I booked online on the trip on 30 May as was shown on the calendar. However, one day before the trip, they told me there is no flight on 30 May, but only available on 1 May. As a result I had to incur more costs and inconvenience to cancel our hotel booking in Pamukkale, extend the stay in Marmaris and pay more for transport to switch our itinerary in order to be able to do Rhodes the next day. Tour guide was fantastic & knowledgeable - also spoke at least 5 languages! The only reason we did not give a 5 Star was due to the transport from our hotel in the morning to the meeting point. We didn’t really know what to look out for, a coach? A taxi? The guys name? We just got on a random coach hoping for the best. Next time it would be nice if they at least give you the drivers name. A nice group of 12 of all ages headed out in single file at a nice trot pace on a dirt track that the horses knew well.. A two-day trip to Ephesus and Pamukkale is not only enjoyable from a tourist perspective; it gives you a comfortable break from the busy life of the resort town of Marmaris. Located on the countryside, both Ephesus and Pamukkale present you great sights with their awesome landscapes. During the first day of the trip, you will visit the ancient city site of Ephesus. The tour guide will lead you through the ancient monuments like the ancient amphitheatre, the Temple of Artemis, the Library of Celsus, etc. After this you will also have a chance to visit the House of Virgin Mary, situated 9 km from this place.

This limestone, white-washed mountain is a breath-taking spot of unique natural beauty. The mountain has naturally-shaped terraces filled with thermal water. In the broader area you may also visit an antique thermal pool, known as the Cleopatra’s Pool, and swim at an extra cost. Moreover, in Pamukkale there is the ancient city of Hierapolis with many interesting ruins. In Hierapolis you may observe a necropolis, an ancient theatre, Roman baths and temples.

We had our holiday in Turkey last summer and went on the Excursion to Ephesus and Pamukkale from Marmaris absolute amazing time, made even better by our tour guide Sukru a.k.a Sam. When we go back to Turkey we will definitely be using this company again. Thanks !!!

The two day trip to Ephesus and Pamukkale was the absolute highlight of our whole stay in Turkey not just because of the beautiful places we have seen but also because we were fortunate enough to have Sukru as our guide. His knowledge of the places and the historical background is amazing, time after time I have felt that I am actually able to see the ancient world around us with full of life of the people who once were living there. The time we spent in Ephesus was like an open air university lecture for me ( reminding me of the old times ) We would like to thank Sukru again for making this trip a wonderful experience.I would book for any trip in Turkey if he would be the guide.If you want to see real Turkey, try this tour .

Ephesus and Pamukkale 2-days Excursion from Marmaris was a highlight of my holiday. The massage was amazing and the staff were lovely and friendly. The room where we had the Turkish foam experience was beautiful and I think because we had it to ourselves it was quite special. • Camper267955 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Amazing Rhodes! Overall, Rhodes was just amazing! A day trip is definitely not enough. The Catamaran ride was smooth. The only downside was that immigration clearance took quite long, reducing the time we had to explore Rhodes. Also, please check on the availability of the catamaran on certain days. Apparently it does not operate to Rhodes from Marmaris daily although it was advertised as such online. I booked online on the trip on 30 May as was shown on the calendar. However, one day before the trip, they told me there is no flight on 30 May, but only available on 1 May. As a result I had to incur more costs and inconvenience to cancel our hotel booking in Pamukkale, extend the stay in Marmaris and pay more for transport to switch our itinerary in order to be able to do Rhodes the next day. The tour operator should check with the ferry schedule and advertise accordingly. Although this incident happened to us, I still enjoyed Rhodes Read more Written 24 May 2024

Tour guide was fantastic & knowledgeable - also spoke at least 5 languages! The only reason we did not give a 5 Star was due to the transport from our hotel in the morning to the meeting point. We didn’t really know what to look out for, a coach? A taxi? The guys name? We just got on a random coach hoping for the best. Next time it would be nice if they at least give you the drivers name. A nice group of 12 of all ages headed out in single file at a nice trot pace on a dirt track that the horses knew well.. My horse ( Carlos) was very experienced and gave me a day to remember..thank you..You can feed the horses once back at stables and view photos of the day..always remember to haggle the price as I did...yes the whole time spent on this activity was excellent and worth the 5 stars I've given also well done Viator 👍🇹🇷🌞🐎😎😁 Read more Written 21 May 2024
