My husband and I will be in moscow and wanted to take a side trip..understand Vladimir & Suzdal is quite nice. Do you prefer that to Sergiev Posad? Do you know any agencies that provide group tours or private tours to Vladimir & Suzdal? I understand that Patriarshy Dom is not operating its group tour during this time. Please advise. Any information you have to share would be helpful.

Vladimir & Suzdal are close to each other. you can use vladimir as base and also visit suzdal.

I will give you some links ( sorry i am out on tour and can't do more research).

My sugestion would be to go to Vladimir by train from moscow in the evening, take rest and then join a full day tour of vladimir - suzdal and return at night or next day morning. The train takes 2-3 hrs. Details available at http://www.poezda.net ( in english) .You can even book online

Trains are clean and safe. Hotel Vladimir at Vladimir is ok. near the train station. you can find the contacts in google. ( book the tickets in advance.)

You can visit sergiev possad ( quite near to moscow) using the moscow based tour agency mentioned above. They offer day trips to Sergivev possad.

If you want to search the net further, go to http://www.yandex.ru ( russian website) and type in "vladimir tour" or "suzdal tour" in ENGLISH. This will give you many sites with english option

will you consider a DIY trip?

from moscow to vladimir take a long-distance train or a suburban (electrichek) train from kursky station. there are several in the daytime/early evening. certain long-distance trains are faster and can arrive in 2 hours. suburbans take 3 hrs. probably less complicated to buy suburban ticket than one of a long-distance train (where you need passport, specify what type of seat, which train number...) and also cheaper

once in vladimir you can walk around for 1-2 hours or even have your dinner there. then take a bus (avtobus) at the bus station just up a slope from the train station. the bus runs every 30-60mins till late. i took the one around 8-9pm. and the evening buses go directly into city centre of suzdal. the trip is about 40-60mins

the tricky part is if you reserve your accomodation in suzdal with a guesthouse/B&B, it may not be easy to locate. the one i had booked did not have a sign hanging at the door. i walked around for about an hour and at last had to find a local to talk to my host over phone and then she kindly led me to the right wooden house

The Five Lives Lost in the Titanic Submersible

On board the submersible were the founder of the company that operates the vessel; a British businessman and explorer; a British father and teenage son from a prominent Pakistani family; and a French maritime expert.

Five people were on board the Titan submersible when it lost contact with its support ship during a dive to the Titanic wreckage site in the North Atlantic on Sunday. On Thursday, the U.S. Coast Guard and the company that operated the submersible, OceanGate Expeditions, said that all five people on board were believed to be dead.

Here are the passengers who were aboard the craft.

Stockton Rush

Stockton Rush was the founder and chief executive of OceanGate Expeditions, the company that operated the submersible. He was piloting the vessel.

In an interview that aired on CBS in November, Mr. Rush said he grew up wanting to be an astronaut and, after earning an aerospace engineering degree from Princeton in 1984, a fighter pilot.

“I had this epiphany that I didn’t want — it wasn’t about going to space,” Mr. Rush said. “It was about exploring. It was about finding new life-forms. I wanted to be sort of the Captain Kirk. I didn’t want to be the passenger in the back. And I realized that the ocean is the universe.” He founded OceanGate, a private company that is based in Everett, Wash., near Seattle, in 2009.

Hamish Harding

Hamish Harding , a British businessman and explorer, holds several Guinness World Records, including one for the longest time spent traversing the deepest part of the ocean on a single dive. He wrote on his Facebook page on Saturday that he was proud to announce that he had joined OceanGate’s mission “on the sub going down to the Titanic.”

Mr. Harding, 58, was the chairman of Action Aviation, a sales and air operations company based in Dubai. He had previously flown to space on a mission by Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin rocket company.

Mr. Harding also took part in an effort to reintroduce cheetahs to India, and holds a world record for the fastest circumnavigation of Earth via both the geographic poles by plane.

Paul-Henri Nargeolet

Paul-Henri Nargeolet , a French maritime expert, had been on more than 35 dives to the Titanic wreck site.

Mr. Nargeolet was the director of underwater research for RMS Titanic, Inc. , an American company that owns the salvage rights to the famous wreck and displays many of the artifacts in Titanic exhibitions. The company conducted eight research and recovery expeditions between 1987 and 2010, according to its website.

Shahzada Dawood and Suleman Dawood

The British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood , 48, and his son, Suleman, 19, were members of one of Pakistan’s wealthiest families.

Mr. Dawood had a background in textiles and fertilizer manufacturing. His son was a business student at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, a spokesman for the school confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

Mr. Dawood and his son had “embarked on a journey to visit the remnants of the Titanic” when contact with the vessel was lost, the statement said, asking for privacy for the family.

Mr. Dawood was also on the board of trustees for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute. The organization said on its website that he was a resident of Britain, and a father of two children.

Around the World in Analogue: Life in the Green City, Zelenograd

Back in 1958, Zelenograd was a new town formed and planned by the Soviet Union, specialized to become the central hub of electronics, microelectronics and the computer industry, and it has become as such to this very day for Russia. Dubbed as the "Green City" in reference to the city's color and the symbolic animal, the squirrel, Zelenograd offers much more as it provides wide, open spaces where modernity and nature meet. Through the photographs of Lomographer Igor Silaev a.k.a. mahoney66 , we see a gorgeous glimpse of his life in the okrug in harmonious colors.

I think 2020 was very hard for everyone. There are various restrictions in the country. Due to some restrictions, I even had to change jobs. But it was only good because I had more free time. Thanks to this, I returned to photography!

I live in Zelenograd (Autonomous district of Moscow). Unlike the center of Moscow, it is more calm and measured, and there are a lot of trees in our city (Zelenograd literally translates as green city ). Thanks to this, you can feel a certain connection with nature here, as if you are in the village. But at the same time, some areas look like a metropolis. There is also a very unusual architecture in the style of post-Soviet modernism, it is very inspiring. That's probably why I love this city.

First of all, I love my view from the window, because there are unreal sunsets. There are also many parks and alleys in the city, and in my opinion, they are much more picturesque than parks in the center of Moscow and not so mainstream. I would recommend Victory Park (not to be confused with the Park of the same name in Moscow) and the arboretum. From the Central parks, I would recommend VDNH, there is something to see and shoot.

Next to my house there is a Tanuki restaurant, where they prepare delicious Asian food. And from the bars I would recommend Hops & Coffee, it is located next to the train station. There are many varieties of author's beer and damn fine coffee!... and hot! If we talk about the center, then be sure to visit the cafe PEOPLE as PEOPLE -- this is a pleasant place where you can eat delicious and inexpensive food.

I Advise you to come to Moscow in the middle of summer, at this time there are the most comfortable weather conditions and you can walk all day long. Visit as many attractions and parks as possible, take a ride in the Moscow metro and take as much film with you as possible because here it is much more expensive! If you still need a film, then I recommend Perspektivalab . They have a good selection of films and the price is reasonable.

I like to think about the first time I went to Sokolniki Park with my girlfriend. That day, I was terribly stung by my new sneakers, but even that didn't spoil this beautiful day. We walked all day and took a lot of pictures. If you are in Moscow, be sure to go to Sokolniki Park!

Seriespelet 2024

Stockholms Golfförbund arrangerar seriespel för distriktets alla klubbar. Spelformen är matchspel scratch, klubb mot klubb med fyrmannalag, singelmatcher. Seriespelet är öppet för damer från 22 år och för herrar från 25 år.

Vi vill redan nu informera om att 2025 kommer SGDF att ändra formatet för slutspel. Seriespelet division 1 kommer reduceras till två divisioner ifrån nuvarande fyra. Detta beslut fattades på grunderna att slutspelet då kan genomföras under en dag istället för två dagar. Det betyder att inga lag från div 2 går upp till div 1 och de lag som placeras som 3-4 i div 1 åker ner till div 2.

Inbjudan till seriespel 2024

Sista dag att anmäla lag till Seriespelet 2024 är den 15 februari.

Anmälan av lagen inför 2024 utförs i två steg:

Steg 1 – Anmäl antal lag i varje serie genom att klicka på den länken nedan, observera att ni bara kan använda länken en gång per klubb! Det vill säga att det är bara en person per klubb som ska anmäla lagen!  Vid kompletteringar får ni maila [email protected]

Steg 2 – Registrera lagledare till varje anmält lag. Detta görs i GIT på samma sätt som förra året och skall vara klart senast 28 februari 2024. OBS! 2023 års lagledare, som ej är aktuella för 2024, måste tas bort ur GIT i samband med steg 2 ovan.

Anmälningsavgiften för damer och herrar är 1200 kr.

Klubbar som anmäler lag till SGDF:s seriespel 2024 efter den 15 februari 2024 kommer bara tas med i mån av plats efter det att serieindelningen är gjord. En förhöjd avgift med 500 kr kommer då att debiteras.

Anmälningsavgiften återbetalas ej efter den 15 februari och en straffavgift på 1000 kr uttages då lag återtas efter den 15 februari.

• Efter steg 1 och 2, ska nu spelarnas namn skrivas in, om dessa namn inte redan finns inlagda. Detta ska göras senast dagen innan matchen. Inför första spelomgången ska alla lagledare per klubb lägga in sina spelare. Efter första spelomgången finns sedan namnen sparade i systemet. Klicka på den blå texten (SPELARE) och sök m.h.a. Golf-ID eller välj spelare från listan om namnet redan finns i listan under sökrutan.
• Om så önskas kan ett ”Resultatark”skrivas ut för noteringar vid spelomgången. ”Resultatarket” finns längst ned till vänster på sidan.
• På samma ställe kan även en ”Startlista”skrivas ut med namn, klubb, Golf-id & Hcp på spelarna, som sedan kan föras över till resultatarket.
• Använd resultatarket för att notera resultat för delmatcherna. (Använd endast fälten för notering av resultat för delmatcherna. Poäng räknas automatiskt ut vid resultatrapporteringen i GIT.)
• Använd resultatarket för att via resultatrapporteringslänken ovan lägga in spelarnas namn (om inte det redan är gjort) och rapportera in resultaten.
• Vid resultatrapportering ska ”Matchstatus” och ”Vinnare” väljas samt resultaten som ”Hål upp” & ”Återstående” rapporteras. För mer utförlig instruktion, se Manualen Resultatrapportering i GIT nedan.

Allt om finalspelet - Lindö Äng Huvudstadens GK 13-14 september 2024

• Semifinalerna lottas av SGDF i början av september när alla matchresultat har kommit in.
• I åldersklasser där det enbart finns tre grupper och tre lag, går bästa vinnaren direkt till final och de övriga två gruppsegrarna spelar semifinal.
• De segrande lagen i division 1 i varje grupp (pool) kvalificerar sig till finalspel.
• Semifinal spelas med två lagmatcher på förmiddagen och final spelas på eftermiddagen, där årets Distriktsmästare i klubblag dam i respektive åldersklass koras och årets Stockholmsmästare i klubblag herr i respektive åldersklass koras.
• Semifinal för 60-, 70, 75- och 80-kategorierna spelas fredagen den 13 september och semifinal för övriga kategorier spelas lördagen den 14 september.
• Final för samtliga kategorier spelas lördagen den 14 september.
• Alla matcher spelas på Lindö Äng – Huvudstadens GK.
• Spelformen är lag matchspel scratch. Varje lagmatch består av fyra singelmatcher.
• Vid lika resultat i semifinal och final spelas särspel hål för hål, där lagen representeras av den sist startande (den med lägst hcp) av de fyra spelare som deltagit i finalspelet.
• Prisutdelning per kategori sker direkt efter finalspelet.

Spelarna är välkomna för inspel hela veckan, dvs valfri dag av mån-torsdagen samma vecka 9-12 september, samt mån-fredag veckan där innan 2-6 september. Inspel bokas via telefon, 0770-22 00 10 och rekommenderas att göras i god tid innan för att säkerställa sin inspelstid.

Golfbil måste bokas i god tid , 7 dagar innan finalhelgen på telefonnummer:0770-22 00 10. En bil med läkarintyg kostar 350 kr/18 hål.

(läkarintyg måste uppvisas).

OBS! Tänk på att hålla tiderna genom ett snabbt och effektivt spel. Det är mycket viktigt att gå in direkt efter avslutad match för att hinna med alla matcher innan mörkrets inbrott. Alltså, när en match är avgjord avslutas matchen och inget mer spel är tillåtet.

• Matcherna spelas i 6 spelomgångar
• Varje ålderskategori är uppdelade i divisioner med fyra lag i varje grupp och fyra grupper i varje division
• SGDFs seriespel genomförs i följande ålderskategorier:D22 (födda 2001 eller tidigare) D50 (födda 1974 eller tidigare) D60 (födda 1964 eller tidigare) D70 (födda 1954 eller tidigare)

• Spelformen är matchspel scratch, klubb mot klubb med fyrmannalag där det spelas 6 singelmatcher i varje starttid
• Alla spelar mot alla i bollen
• Matcherna spelas i 4 spelomgångar
• SGDFs seriespel genomförs i följande ålderskategorier: Öppen klass Herrar H25 (födda 1999 eller tidigare) H40 (födda 1984 eller tidigare) H50 (födda 1974 eller tidigare) H60 (födda 1964 eller tidigare) H70 (födda 1954 eller tidigare) H75 (födda 1949 eller tidigare) H80 (födda 1944 eller tidigare)

Seriespelet genomförs i tre divisioner. I division 1 är det endast tillåtet med ett lag per klubb i respektive kategori.

Varje division består normalt av fyra grupper dit de anmälda lagen lottas. Preliminärt spelas seriespelet veckorna 20, 22, 24 samt 33, 34, 35 för damer och veckorna 21, 23 och 33, 35 för herrar. Huvudsaklig speldag är måndag och tisdag med onsdag som alternativ. Rekommenderad starttid för D70, H70, H75 och H80 är kl 09.30-12.00 och för övriga kl 14.00-16.00 före midsommar och kl 13.00-15.00 efter midsommar.

Finalspel i korthet

Finalspelet spelas på 13 fredag och lördag den 14 september.

Gruppvinnarna går till semifinaler som lottas av SGDF. I serier med tre grupper går bästa vinnaren direkt till final medan semifinal spelas mellan de övriga två vinnarna. Semifinal spelas fredag den 13 september för kategorierna 60, 70, 75 & 80 och lördag den 14 september för övriga kategorier. Samtliga kategorier spelar final på lördag den 14 september.

Tävlingsledning

Arrangörsklubben är alltid ansvarig för tävlingsledning. Arrangörsklubben för varje spelomgång utser en tävlingsledare, ofta lagledaren i arrangörsklubbens lag, vilken kallar övriga lag till lämplig tid senast en vecka innan spelomgången, samt ser till att tillräckligt startförbud är bokat.
