In the travel soccer program, Holden teams compete against teams from nearby towns in the Midland Area Youth Soccer League (MAYS). This program is offered to kids in grades 3 to 12 in spring and grades 5 to 12 in fall.

Teams are divided into the following age groups:

  • Grade 3 & 4 (U10)
  • Grade 5 & 6 (U12)
  • Grade 7 & 8 (U14)
  • Grade 9 & 10 (U16)
  • Grade 11 & 12 & PG (U19)

They are also divided into three divisions by ability level: Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3. (Division 1 is the most challenging.) We place players and teams in the most suitable divisions, where they can be appropriately challenged but not overmatched.

Games are on Saturdays for U10 through U14 and Sundays for U16 and U19. In fall, there are no playoffs. All teams play eight games. In spring, D1 and D2 teams in Grade 5 & 6 and up play eight regular season games and can qualify for the MAYS playoffs and potentially the state championship (Massachusetts Tournament of Champions). Division 3 teams play six regular-season games and then two games in the Gaffney Cup tournament.

Teams have one practice per week. We try to offer a night of pickup soccer as well.

Players must purchase uniforms if they do not already have one. You will receive an email with instructions after registering.

You can register via  SportPilot . Contact Travel Director Matt McCarthy with any questions.

Idaho Surf Program/Player Pathway

The Idaho Surf Soccer Club hopes to be the home for aspiring soccer players from the time they are five years old to 18. Therefore, its programs facilitate age-appropriate soccer development at every stage.

A Development Program for players ages 5 to 18

It’s our hope that families stick with us throughout the lives of their children. Idaho Surf program supports soccer skill development from the early years up through high school. Based on the US Soccer Curriculum, children are trained and evaluated based on age-appropriate skills and measures. While younger players gain a solid soccer foundation, older players are prepared to play at the highest levels – having opportunities to team up with players from other Surf affiliate programs and play in Surf Soccer tournaments in front of college scouts and coaches. The older players also have access to College ID camps and a program to support their college-level goals. Players at these levels also have opportunities to “play up” and combine with the most competitive players to team up for special events. Our players have opportunities to try-out and train in Olympic Development Programs (ODP), Surf Elite Program, Surf Select Program, as well as, placement on US Soccer Elite Leagues around the country and overseas programs. Finally, our players have access to a dedicated indoor training facility with year-round skills development classes, small-sided tournaments, camps, clinics, and college placement programs.

If you have any questions please reach out to [email protected]

Soccer Star Alex Morgan Travels the World As an Athlete and As a Mom — Here's How She Does It

From what she packs to how her daughter handled her first international flight at 4 months old, the World Cup champ shares how she keeps to routine and more.

midland travel soccer

From left: Robin Alam/ISI Photos/Getty Images; Courtesy of Alex Morgan

Soccer sensation Alex Morgan is always dashing around, whether it’s showing off her skillful speed on the field or jet-setting for the sport about 200 days a year. And of course, it's all while capturing the World Cup title with the U.S. Women’s National Team in Canada in 2015 and France in 2019, and scoring Olympic gold in London in 2012 and bronze in Tokyo in 2021 in the process.

So it's especially crucial for her to balance out her high-adrenaline career with some serious zen on the road.

“I always try to travel with a candle in my hotel room,” she told Travel + Leisure on a recent Zoom call. “That reminds me of home, so I always do that.”

Additionally, she always makes time for reading.

“After traveling, you’re exhausted and the last thing I want to deal with is watching a high-stress show, so I calm it down and read a book,” the 34-year-old said of her Amazon Kindle always being loaded up with books , recently having read Kristin Hannah’s The Nightingale — which she admitted made her cry a couple times.

Sticking with the low-tech vibe, Morgan also opts for a notebook to mark down anything important.

“If I’m having an important conversation on the phone or if I just went through a day traveling, I jot down things I need to remember to do,” she said. “Being able to write that down physically makes me see it as important.“

With Alex Morgan

Window or aisle seat? Window.

Skincare product you never travel without: My Chapstick.

What’s your travel snack? Fruit, or if there's no other option, I'll do hummus with pretzels.

Favorite album to listen to on a long plane ride? Zach Bryan. Any album. I’ll do Zach Bryan radio and then some Chris Stapleton rotates in there and I'm all good with that too.

Dream trip with pal Taylor Swift? We could do a group trip to the Greek islands or Sicily. Just go around wine tasting, eating good food, like pizza and pasta.

Celeb Check-in

But above all, staying physically healthy by taking her vitamins is a major priority for the captain of the San Diego Wave FC , which is why she’s teamed up with Nature Made on its new Pickle- Flavored Multivitamin Gummies .

“While you’re traveling, you might not be able to continue your eating habits as well, so that's why it's even more important for me to keep up on my vitamins,” she said.

Being a pickle fan for as long as she can remember — she prefers dill over sweet, and spears over chips, but will go for fried pickle chips — the new flavor brings a fresh twist to the daily regime.

Plus she now has a special helper keeping her on top of her daily vitamins, her 4-year-old daughter Charlie.

“My daughter is very adamant on us taking our vitamins,” Morgan said. “She always reminds me every morning because she's excited to get them out of the vitamin box. She loves figuring out what day it is.”

In fact, her daughter has been accompanying her for at least half of her travels, starting when she was just four months old. Born early in the pandemic in May 2020, Morgan was anxious to get back to soccer ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and spontaneously decided to go to England, where leagues had started up again when Charlie was just four months old.

“We had to get her passport within 24 hours and she moved with me to London, so that was her first big trip,” she explained.

The baby stayed calm, thanks to “a lot of breastfeeding and swaddling, and just keeping her in close contact with me.” That early training prepped her properly. “Now she knows she gets one candy every travel day, and unlimited iPad time — that’s the one and only time she can play her games and watch her shows,” the mom of one said. “So she’s a total pro.”

Of course, when Morgan travels, her head is always in the game. Of the three Olympics she’s played so far — London in 2012, Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and the delayed Tokyo Games in 2021, London was a favorite. The matches were all over the UK, including in some historic stadiums.

“We got to play at Old Trafford , which is where Manchester United plays,” the soccer forward said. “That's where we ended up winning our semi final game against Canada to make it to the final — that's definitely a core memory for me.”

She thinks Tokyo would have been a favorite too (“It’s so beautiful!) but Covid restrictions made it feel more isolating. And of course, if all goes according to plan, she’ll be heading back to her fourth Games this summer in Paris.

“I think that Paris just has really good coffee on every corner, which I love,” the California native said. “Their pastries are beautiful to look at — sometimes I don't even feel like eating a pastry, but they're just so beautiful!”

She’s also excited for her family to revisit France because they so enjoyed their trip during the 2019 World Cup, especially visiting the Champagne region.

“We don't get to do too much outside of play — neither do I want to because I'm so focused — so I live vicariously through them,” said the co-founder of sports media and commerce company TogetherX , along with fellow female athletes Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel, and Sue Bird. “But just knowing that my daughter and my husband are going to have these experiences together really fills my heart.”

By now, she’s used to missing out, understanding it’s part of the job. “They wouldn't even be there experiencing these really amazing things and these great different cultures, if not for me being there, competing on the world stage,” she said. “So I think it's just a give-and-take situation.”

But there is one spot she looks forward to taking her daughter when she’s off the clock. “My husband is from Mexico, so I would just love to take her to more Mexican destinations that I haven't visited as frequently either,” Morgan said. “Mexico City just has a great food culture and sightseeing, so that would be a great trip for us.”

Latinos passionate about soccer are traveling for the 2024 Copa América

T he largest soccer tournament in the Americas is one month away, and people from around the world are looking to visit the US to cheer for their country. The 2024 Copa América kicks off on Thursday, June 20 , and fans from 16 participating countries are eagerly preparing to cheer their national teams in person at matches across 14 cities in the US.

The tournament will bring together the entire American continent and some of the biggest soccer stars on the planet representing countries such as Argentina and Brazil. According to Airbnb, the 48th edition of the CONMEBOL Copa América has seen a wave of soccer fans looking to travel.

Lionel Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo surprise fans at the traffic light in Miami

Piqué presents the most expensive soccer jersey ever produced.

As anticipation for the event reaches a fever pitch, listing views from guests in competing countries outside the US spiked nearly 40 percent for match days compared to the previous year.

The highest growth in listing views for Airbnb near the matches has been made by guests based in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada. Guests traveling from Canada, Brazil, and Argentina have booked the most nights during match days, apart from US guests.

“It is well-known that Latinos are passionate about soccer, so therefore it doesn’t come as a big surprise that fans from across the region would make the long trek to support their teams, participate in the fanfare, and ultimately get a shot at witnessing history,” said Jordi Torres Mallol, America’s Director for Airbnb, in a press release.

Destinations where Argentina’s national soccer team is scheduled to play have seen a surge in listing views on Airbnb. Atlanta and Jersey City saw some of the highest growth in listing views during match dates compared to the same period last year. Atlanta saw a +350% listing growth in listing views, where Argentina VS. Canada and Panama VS. USA matches will take place. Miami will host the final match and Airbnb listing views in the area have already increased by 10 percent.

Budget-friendly stays in hosting cities

Soccer fans looking for travel options can now use Airbnb’s special landing page, designed to help fans find accommodations near the stadiums. The brand created it to help travelers to focus on the excitement of watching the matches, rather than the hassles of long commutes. The page shows available stays in cities like Atlanta, Fort Worth, Jersey City, and Miami, where the final match will take place on July 14 at the Hard Rock Café. Additionally, Airbnb has introduced new features like shared wishlists, trip invitations, and direct group messaging to simplify group bookings when planning with family and friends.

St. Francis shuts out out Cheboygan, 5-0, to win 1st standalone soccer district title

Jun. 1—TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City St. Francis won its first standalone girls soccer district championship Saturday with a 5-0 shutout of Cheboygan.

St. Francis last won a girls soccer title as part of a co-op with Traverse City Christian almost a decade ago.

The Gladiators controlled play against Cheboygan, which generated only five shots on goal against sophomore goaltender Paisleigh Upshaw.

Sophomore forward Reese Muma scored a hat trick for the Gladiators, with sophomore Riley Collins adding a goal and two assists, junior Lilianna David putting up a goal and an assist, and sophomore Sidney Peters assisting on two goals.

"We did a great job controlling the ball, getting it wide and having the defense switch up sides," Gladiators head coach Scott Conway said.

The Glads led 3-0 by halftime and played every healthy player on their roster.

No. 8-ranked St. Francis (18-1-2) moves on in the Division 3 postseason to play No. 14 Freeland (13-4-5) in regionals Tuesday at the Brookwood Athletic Complex in Clare as the second game of a doubleheader there. The 5 p.m. game features Fremont (15-4-1) and Tri County (17-7), followed by St. Francis and Freeland at 7 p.m.

"Let's keep this train rolling down the track," Conway said. "Hopefully, we can keep this momentum going."

St. Francis last won a girls soccer district in the 2015-16 season as part of the TC Liberty co-op, which beat Grayling 1-0 in overtime for the crown and then lost to Freeland, 4-1, in regional play.

Transperth technical delays hinder Italian soccer fans’ journey to AC Milan and AS Roma match at Optus Stadium

Headshot of Caleb Runciman

Transperth has urged soccer fans leaving the AC Milan and AS Roma match at Optus Stadium to “be patient” as crews work to resolve a technical issue that has delayed the railway network for more than four hours.

Chaos erupted on Perth’s railways on Friday afternoon when the Armadale, Midland, and Fremantle trains experienced severe delays due to a “technical issue” at Stadium Station, which was first reported around 5pm.

Half of the city’s train lines were unexpectedly struck around 45 minutes before the 7pm kick-off on Friday night — with some people reporting being stranded at Perth Station.

Transperth has since published multiple statements about the service delays affecting the Fremantle, Armadale and Midland lines.

It is understood the technical issue at Stadium Station caused trains across the three lines to travel slower than usual.

In a statement late on Friday, Transperth said crews were continuing to solve the issue at Stadium Station.

“While trains are running, they are delayed, so passengers need to be patient,” the spokeswoman said.

A spokesperson for the transport authority previously said replacement buses had been organised to transport people from Perth Station to Matagraup Bridge — before having to walk to the stadium for the start of the match.

“Replacement buses have been organised to help move people travelling to Optus Stadium from Perth Station to Matagarup Bridge,” they said.

Transperth issued multiple statements throughout the afternoon, with the first sign of a “technical delay” impacting just the Armadale line around 5pm.

“Please allow extra travelling time and be aware that delayed trains may not connect with timetabled bus and train services,” the first statement said.”

Two minutes later — a similar statement about Fremantle and Midland was released.

“Trains on the Fremantle and Midland Lines are currently delayed due to a technical issue,” it said.

“Trains will continue to run; however, they will not be running to the regular schedule.

It comes as more than 50,000 fans were expected to flock to Optus Stadium for the friendly between AC Milan and AS Roma on Friday night. This is being touted as another coup for WA following the successful WWE blockbuster in February.

Fans took to social media to express their dismay at the untimely delays.

“Ugly, ugly scenes at Perth Station. Thousands of people are choking the platforms and growing angrier by the second,” one person posted on X, formerly Twitter.

Another user posted a photo of a packed tunnel at the Perth underground station tunnel, just 25 minutes before the match started.

After the match, @athought4urs said, “You had 1 job @Transperth @RogerCookMLA. Don’t put on an event if you can’t get people home #wadreamstate #not.”

Dallas-based energy giant Energy Transfer plans to expand its massive natural gas network with a purchase valued at $3.25 billion.

The company has agreed to acquire WTG Midstream, a privately held Midland-based organization that specializes in gas processing and gathering. The deal will add upward of 6,000 miles of gas-gathering pipelines to Energy Transfer’s more than 125,000 miles of energy infrastructure, and expand the company’s natural gas pipeline and processing network in the Permian Basin.

Texas is largely powered by natural gas — in 2020, nearly half of the energy produced in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas region , which manages most of the state’s grid, came from natural gas-fired generation. Energy Transfer is one of the state’s leading natural gas transporters and has grown aggressively in recent years.

Last year alone, the company’s acquisitions included Houston-based Crestwood Energy Partners and Sugar Land-based Lotus Midstream . Those purchases expanded Energy Transfer’s assets in the Williston, Delaware and Permian oil and gas basins. The Lotus acquisition also increased Energy Transfer’s storage capacity in Midland by 2 million barrels.

“We continue to invest in assets, including natural gas, that add value to our overall midstream business and to our unit holders,” a spokesperson wrote in an email response when asked why the company continues to invest in natural gas.

Energy Transfer’s first-quarter results , which were published May 8, read that “with the addition of new growth projects and acquisitions,” interstate natural gas transportation volumes were up 5%.

Energy Transfer also approved eight natural gas-fired electric generation facilities to support its operations in Texas, according to the same results. Those sites are expected to go into service throughout 2025 and 2026.

Texas’ dependence on natural gas has caused issues in the past. After the February 2021 winter storm, ERCOT officials said that the primary cause of outages appeared to be the state’s natural gas providers , which were not designed to withstand cold temperatures during production.

The transaction between Energy Transfer and WTG Midstream is expected to close in the third quarter this year, subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions, according to a Tuesday news release.

Representatives from WTG Midstream and ERCOT did not respond to requests for comment.
