• Mark Twain Travel Quotes

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one’s lifetime.
To do something, say something, see something, before anybody else — these are the things that confer a pleasure compared with which other pleasures are tame and commonplace, other ecstasies cheap and trivial. Lifetimes of ecstasy crowded into a single moment.

last trip quotes

It is the loveliest fleet of islands [ Hawaii ] that lies anchored in any ocean.
No alien land in all the world has any deep strong charm for me but that one [ Hawaii ], no other land could so longingly and so beseechingly haunt me, sleeping and waking, through half a lifetime, as that one has done. Other things leave me, but it abides; other things change, but it remains the same.   For me the balmy airs are always blowing, its summer seas flashing in the sun; the pulsing of its surfbeat is in my ear; I can see its garlanded crags, its leaping cascades, its plumy palms drowsing by the shore, its remote summits floating like islands above the cloud wrack; I can feel the spirit of its wildland solitudes, I can hear the splash of its brooks; in my nostrils still lives the breath of flowers that perished twenty years ago.

Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey. — Pat Conroy
No man is brave that has never walked a hundred miles. If you want to know the truth of who you are, walk until not a person knows your name. Travel is the great leveler, the great teacher, bitter as medicine, crueler than mirror-glass. A long stretch of road will teach you more about yourself than a hundred years of quiet. — Patrick Rothfuss
It is always sad to leave a place to which one knows one will never return. Such are the melancolies du voyage: perhaps they are one of the most rewarding things about traveling. — Gustave Flaubert

We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best we can find in our travels is an honest friend. — Robert Louis Stevenson

last trip quotes

• Adventure Travel Quotes

Adventure is worthwhile in itself. — Amelia Earhart
If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it is lethal. — Paulo Coelho
Most of us abandoned the idea of a life full of adventure and travel sometime between puberty and our first job. Our dreams died under the dark weight of responsibility. Occasionally the old urge surfaces, and we label it with names that suggest psychological aberrations: the big chill, a midlife crisis. — Tim Cahill

Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit, and as vital to our lives as water and good bread. — Edward Abbey

last trip quotes

Once a journey is designed, equipped, and put in process, a new factor enters and takes over. A trip, a safari, an exploration, is an entity, different from all other journeys. It has personality, temperament, individuality, uniqueness. A journey is a person in itself; no two are alike. And all plans, safeguards, policing, and coercion are fruitless.   We find after years of struggle that we do not take a trip; a trip takes us. Tour masters, schedules, reservations, brass-bound and inevitable, dash themselves to wreckage on the personality of the trip. Only when this is recognized can the blown-in-the glass bum relax and go along with it. Only then do the frustrations fall away. In this a journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you control it. — John Steinbeck
What is that feeling when you’re driving away from people and they recede on the plain till you see their specks dispersing? – it’s the too-huge world vaulting us, and it’s good-bye. But we lean forward to the next crazy venture beneath the skies. — Jack Kerouac
A ship is safe in harbor, but that’s not what ships are for. — J.A. Shedd
Do not follow where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and make a trail. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

last trip quotes

It’s a terrible thing, I think, in life to wait until you’re ready. I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any. — Hugh Laurie
Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the Earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white. — Mark Jenkins

last trip quotes

The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. — Christopher McCandless
Adventure is allowing the unexpected to happen to you. Exploration is experiencing what you have not experienced before. How can there be any adventure, any exploration, if you let somebody else – above all, a travel bureau – arrange everything before-hand? — Richard Aldington
Be careful because Cambodia is the most dangerous place you will ever visit. You will fall in love with it, and eventually it will break your heart. — Joel Brinkley

• Solo Travel Quotes

To awaken quite alone in a strange town is one of the most pleasant sensations in the world. — Freya Stark
Do not go where the path may lead; go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. — Unknown
I can’t think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can’t read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can’t reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses. — Bill Bryson
The true fruit of travel is perhaps the feeling of being nearly everywhere at home. — Freya Stark

last trip quotes

When you’ve managed to stumble directly into the heart of the unknown – either through the misdirection of others, or better yet, through your own creative ineptitude – there is no one there to hold your hand or tell you what to do. In those bad lost moments, in the times when we are advised not to panic, we own the unknown, and the world belongs to us. The child within has full reign. Few of us are ever so free. — Tim Cahill
No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow. — Lin Yutang
He travels the fastest who travels alone. — Rudyard Kipling

last trip quotes

Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection. — Lawrence Durrell
When the traveler goes alone he gets acquainted with himself. — Liberty Hyde Bailey
The man who goes alone can start today; but he who travels with another must wait till that other is ready. — Henry David Thoreau

last trip quotes

I think one travels more usefully when they travel alone, because they reflect more. — Thomas Jefferson
Loving life is easy when you are abroad. Where no one knows you and you hold your life in your hands all alone, you are more master of yourself than at any other time. — Hannah Arendt
Personally I like going places where I don’t speak the language, don’t know anybody, don’t know my way around and don’t have any delusions that I’m in control. Disoriented, even frightened, I feel alive, awake in ways I never am at home. — Michael Mewshaw

last trip quotes

I can speak to my soul only when the two of us are off exploring deserts or cities or mountains or roads. — Paulo Coelho
Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road. Healthy, free, the world before me. The long brown path before me leading me wherever I choose. — Walt Whitman

• Anthony Bourdain Travel Quotes

If you’re twenty-two, physically fit, hungry to learn and be better, I urge you to travel – as far and as widely as possible. Sleep on floors if you have to. Find out how other people live and eat and cook. Learn from them – wherever you go.
Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life — and travel — leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks — on your body or on your heart — are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt.
It’s an irritating reality that many places and events defy description. Angkor Wat and Machu Picchu , for instance, seem to demand silence, like a love affair you can never talk about.   For a while after, you fumble for words, trying vainly to assemble a private narrative, an explanation, a comfortable way to frame where you’ve been and what’s happened. In the end, you’re just happy you were there — with your eyes open — and lived to see it.

last trip quotes

Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown.
I’m a big believer in winging it. I’m a big believer that you’re never going to find the perfect city travel experience or the perfect meal without a constant willingness to experience a bad one. Letting the happy accident happen is what a lot of vacation itineraries miss, I think, and I’m always trying to push people to allow those things to happen rather than stick to some rigid itinerary.
Do we really want to travel in hermetically sealed popemobiles through the rural provinces of France, Mexico and the Far East, eating only in Hard Rock Cafes and McDonalds? … I know what I want. I want it all. I want to try everything once.

last trip quotes

It seems that the more places I see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. The more I become aware of, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I have still to go, how much more there is to learn.   Maybe that’s enlightenment enough – to know that there is no final resting place of the mind, no moment of smug clarity. Perhaps wisdom, at least for me, means realizing how small I am, and unwise, and how far I have yet to go.
I think food, culture, people and landscape are all absolutely inseparable.
Food is everything we are. It’s an extension of nationalist feeling, ethnic feeling, your personal history, your province, your region, your tribe, your grandma. It’s inseparable from those from the get-go.
Southeast Asia has a real grip on me. From the very first time I went there, it was a fulfillment of my childhood fantasies of the way travel should be.

last trip quotes

I wanted adventures. I wanted to go up the Nung river to the heart of darkness in Cambodia . I wanted to ride out into a desert on camelback, sand and dunes in every direction, eat whole roasted lamb with my fingers. I wanted to kick snow off my boots in a Mafiya nightclub in Russia. I wanted to play with automatic weapons in Phnom Penh, recapture the past in a small oyster village in France, step into a seedy neon-lit pulqueria in rural Mexico. I wanted to run roadblocks in the middle of the night, blowing past angry militia with a handful of hurled Marlboro packs, experience fear, excitement, wonder.   I wanted kicks – the kind of melodramatic thrills and chills I’d yearned for since childhood, the kind of adventure I’d found as a little boy in the pages of my Tintin comic books. I wanted to see the world – and I wanted the world to be just like the movies.
At this point I think my body is like an old car. Another dent ain’t gonna make a whole lot of difference. At best it’s a reminder that you’re still alive and lucky as hell. Another tattoo, another thing you did, another place you’ve been.

last trip quotes

Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund.
If I’m an advocate for anything, it’s to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else’s shoes or at least eat their food, it’s a plus for everybody. Open your mind, get up off the couch, move.
Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.

“Best” is always subjective and yes there are many other great takes on quotes that can inspire one to travel or speak to why the idea of travel is so powerful and life-changing.

Below, we’re going to be listing the best travel quotes with the associated person that wrote or said them. We’ve created pin-able images for many of the quotes for you to use and share.

For organization, wanderlust inspired quotes are broken down into high level categories. Some may belong to multiple but I tried my best to segment them into appropriate buckets.

We’ve also dropped a few nuggets of wisdom and color commentary for a few that we really love.

As we mentioned, the selection of the “best” quotes is subjective. Every quote speaks to every individual differently because of where you are in your life, the experiences you’ve had, your mind space, where you want to be, and your aspirations.

These are the best in our eyes because they aren’t deep in meaning and haven’t been overused to death.

1. “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

do not follow where the path may lead and create your own is one of the best travel quotes by ralph waldo emerson

Passed on from generation to generation is the idea that we need to fit in our own box and follow the norms set for us. It can be societal, cultural, or anything. We’ve found joy in our lives not following that conventional path.

Starting Going Awesome Places and turning it into a full time job sounded crazy (still kind of is) but we carved our own way through it. Sure there are parallel paths but I’d like to think we’ve blazed our own trail.

2. “We take photos as a return ticket to a moment otherwise gone.” – Katie Thurmes

we take photos as a return ticket to our memories northern lights with bubble by katie thurmes

I’ll be the first to admit that we take way too many photos when we travel but when we go back and look at the own albums (whether on our phones or photobooks we print), it really is a wonderful portal back in time to moments and time gone but not forgotten.

3. “This wasn’t a strange place; it was a new one.” – Paulo Coelho

this wasn't a strange place paulo coelho best travel quote in the magdalen islands

Now that’s the incredible thing about travel. If you open your mind and your heart, anywhere new is a wonderful adventure of discovery and not strange of weird.

Take the incredible journey I had in our 9 day Ethiopia itinerary . Sure it was uncomfortable and challenging but I embraced it all.

4. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu

journey of a thousand miles travel quote by lao tzu

You can make your dreams come true with a simple step. It might be the hardest step that you’ve ever had to take because you don’t know where the journey will take you but all it takes are the first baby steps.

Sometimes it can be literal when you take that step off the plane when we went skydiving in New Zealand .

5. “I am not the same, having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.” – Mary Anne Radmacher

the moon shines on the other side of the world new zealand tongariro hike mary anne radmacher

Where we grow up in many ways define who we are and what we know. Like it or not, places like our favorite restaurants in North York , the Oxford County Cheese Trail , or local walks in the parks in Richmond Hill , are a core part of who you are.

It’s our own little bubble and when we are able to bust out of it to see what the world is like, it will challenge you to open your eyes, mind, and be a better person. In Mary’s words, you will never be the same again.

6. “Wanderlust: a strong desire for or impulse to wander or travel and explore the world”

definition of wanderlust with background of oia in santorini travel quote

We cheated a little here but we sometimes throw around the word wanderlust but what does it actually mean? With this fun travel quote, now you know!

Now who has that impulse to explore the world?

7. “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” – Andre Gide

comfort in losing sight of the shore wanderlust quote by andre gide

My mind immediately went to the new worlds we’ve seen while going to the best places to scuba diving in the world but this is one of the best quotes about travel because it encourages us to leave the comforts of home to make new discoveries.

You can take this from the perspective of us being land mammals or the fact that we naturally want to be close to the things that we feel at home with. Whether small or large, you won’t learn something new until you put yourself out there and venture to places unknown.

And no, it’s not just “man” but all the wonderful people of this earth!

8. “Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.” – Jamie Lyn Beatty

adventures fill your soul yosemite nationa lpark jamie lyn beatty thi quote

This is one of the best travel quotes because it is SO TRUE .

The experiences you gather while travelling are honestly worth more than all the money you can make.

9. “There’s a sunrise and a sunset every single day, and they’re absolutely free. Don’t miss so many of them.” – Jo Walton

sunrise and sunsets are for free traveling quote by jo walton

As a photographer, my favourite moments are during sunrise and sunset. Every time we compile a list of the best photography spots like this one in Prague , there’s at least one sunrise or sunset included.

There’s a calmness, stillness, and serenity to the start and end of the day and yes, they’re totally free.

10. “A journey is like marriage. The certain way to be wrong is to think you can control it. ” – John Steinbeck

best travel quote journey is like a marriage by john steinbeck

As a married couple, there’s a deep honesty to this travel quote. As a couple, travel will test your relationship to the max and we always say that even more -so than moving in is to go on a trip together to see if you have partner in life.

In John Steinbeck ‘s travel quote, he talks about how you have to let travel flow the way it wants to go. You can try to bend it, mold it, and control it but you have to let it take you

Some of the best wanderlust sayings are by accomplished writers. They’re incredibly deep, thoughtful, and literary.

11. “Not all those who wander are lost.” – J.R.R. Tolkien

not all who wander are lost by j.r.r. tolkien best travel quote

This is one of the most well-known wanderlust quotes that speaks to how the journey is more important than the destination. Many of us travel without that end point in mind and that’s totally okay!

12. “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.” – Mark Twain

Travel is the greatest teacher of them all. It’s something that has truly opened my mind and is something that more of us need. I’d like to think that we don’t travel for travel’s sake but we do it with purpose – to open our minds, break barriers, and gain broader understanding of the world.

13. “Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Gustave Flaubert

travel makes one modest wanderlust travel quote by Gustave Flaubert

The more you travel the more you realize that what you know and take for granted is but just a tiny bubble on this great earth. While I don’t know if I’ll ever see it all but to travel is to expand your horizons.

If you’re in the process of planning your trip and putting together your itinerary, these are genuinely the best resources that the Going Awesome Places team stands by 100% .

Credit cards: Don’t get burned by hidden fees on top of terrible exchange rates. When we travel now, we use the Wise Card . Simply load it with the currency you need before you go and use it as a regular VISA or their digital wallet card. Use their free app to track how much you have and top up when you need to.

Flights: Of all the booking search engines, Skyscanner is the most helpful and easy to use thanks to their Everywhere feature . Kayak is also another that’s we will often check as well.

Car Rental: If you’re looking to save money, these car rental coupon codes will be a true game-changer. Otherwise, DiscoverCars and RentalCars are great places to start.

Airport Parking: You’ll need a spot to leave your car at the airport so why not book a spot at a discount. Use code AWESOME7 to get at least $5 off at Airport Parking Reservations or Park Sleep Fly packages.

Data: We’ve been a huge fan of wifi hotspot devices like PokeFi (use code GAP24300) because their rates are so good and you can use it globally but recently, we’ve really loved using eSIMs. The best one is Airalo . Save money by getting region-specific eSIMs and use referral code WILLIA9500 to get $3 USD credit on your first purchase. Ubigi is another one that we’ve had success with where they uniquely offer 5G coverage. Use code AWESOME10 to save 10% on your first order.

Hotels: Our go-to is Booking.com because they have the best inventory of properties including hotels and B&Bs plus they have their Genius tier discounts . The exception is Asia where Agoda always has the best prices. TripAdvisor is also useful for reviews and bookings.

Vacation Rentals: Your first instinct will be to check Airbnb but we always recommend checking VRBO as well if you’re looking for a vacation rental.

Tours: When planning our trips, we always check both Viator and GetYourGuide to at least see what’s out there in the destination that we’re going to. They often have different offerings and prices so check both.

95 most inspirational travel quotes ever penned

Our favourite inspirational travel quotes have encouraged us to travel with abandon over the years. Perhaps they will do the same for you…

For us, there is no such thing as luxury travel; travel is, by default, a luxury. It is a privilege provided by the country of our birth, a privilege that many are not as fortunate to enjoy.

Sometimes, we have to pinch ourselves at just how ridiculous our lives have become: an ex-teacher and jobbing writer travelling the world for a living. It is absurd, it is astonishing, it is luxury.

When I first went travelling at 21 years old, my father gave me this quote scrawled on a piece of card.

inspirational travel quotes

It infused me with wanderlust. It encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone, make the most of my time, see the world and enjoy the freedom that comes with being on the road. It remains one of the most inspirational travel quotes I’ve read (even if Twain did not actually say it).

Today, 20 years and almost 100 countries later, it’s still in my wallet. Despite its tattered and dishevelled appearance, it’s every bit as important to me now as it was then.

With that in mind, we’ve collated our most beloved inspirational travel quotes to encourage readers to “explore, dream and discover” for themselves.

Our great adventure in life is to chase our dreams. To discover new places. And I believe the biggest adventure doesn’t have to mean going to the ends of the earth. But in getting out of our comfort zone!

“It is easy to overlook this thought that life just is. As humans we are inclined to feel that life must have a point. We have plans and aspirations and desires. We want to take constant advantage of the intoxicating existence we’ve been endowed with. But what’s life to a lichen? Yet its impulse to exist, to be , is every bit as strong as ours-arguably even stronger. If I were told that I had to spend decades being a furry growth on a rock in the woods, I believe I would lose the will to go on. Lichens don’t. Like virtually all living things, they will suffer any hardship, endure any insult, for a moment’s additions existence. Life, in short just wants to be.” – Bill Bryson

Traveling is one of the greatest pleasures in life, and it’s a way to create unforgettable memories. A journey can inspire us, challenge us, and transform us. It’s no wonder that many famous writers, philosophers and adventurers have shared their thoughts on travel over the years. Here are some inspirational quotes about travel that will make you want to pack your bags and explore the world.

1.”The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – Saint Augustine

This quote reminds us that there’s so much to discover in the world, and we can only experience a small portion of it if we don’t venture beyond our comfort zones.

2. “Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta

This quote perfectly captures the transformative power of travel. When we explore new places and cultures, we are exposed to experiences that leave us speechless. But as we reflect on our travels and share our stories with others, we become storytellers who inspire others to embark on their own adventures.

3. “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.” – Mark Twain

Mark Twain’s quote highlights the importance of travel in broadening our perspectives and breaking down barriers. When we expose ourselves to different cultures and ways of life, we are forced to confront our own biases and preconceptions. Only then can we truly embrace diversity and appreciate the richness of the world around us.

25+ Best Travel Memories Quotes to Inspire Your Wanderlust

I admit it, I love great travel memories quotes.

A great quote can capture a feeling or idea in a way that’s especially inspiring. It can stoke your wanderlust, and make you think about the world in a different way.

It’s a great privilege to be able to look back on my travels around the world, and reflect on how they’ve changed me, and changed my perspective on the world.

Travel has changed my perspective on the world, and it’s changed the heart of who I am. I want to preserve our travel memories , and be able to relax and reflect on our travels around the world, whether I’m looking at old photos, or going more upscale with custom canvas printing of our travel pictures.

The Best Travel Memories Quotes

Here they are, my favorite travel memories quotes and sayings.

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in an office or mowing your lawn. Climb that damn mountain.” ~ Jack Kerouac

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

“One of the best ways to make yourself happy in the present is to recall happy times from the past. Photos are a great memory-prompt, and because we tend to take photos of happy occasions, they weight our memories to the good.” – Gretchen Rubin

“To be human is to have a collection of memories that tells you who you are and how you got there.” – Rosecrans Baldwin

“The most beautiful things are not associated with money; they are memories and moments. If you don’t celebrate those, they can pass you by.” – Alek Wek

“I collect memories. I look for opportunities to try new things, go to new places, and meet new people all the time.” – Marcel Wanders

“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”  – Miriam Beard

“Remember that happiness is a way of travel – not a destination.” – Roy M. Goodman

“I have learned that if you must leave a place that you have lived in and loved and where all your yesteryears are buried deep, leave it any way except a slow way, leave it the fastest way you can. Never turn back and never believe that an hour you remember is a better hour because it is dead. Passed years seem safe ones, vanquished ones, while the future lives in a cloud, formidable from a distance.” – Beryl Markham, West with the Night

“I want to make memories all over the world.” – Unknown

“Own only what you can always carry with you: know languages, know countries, know people. Let your memory be your travel bag.” – Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

“It is not the destination where you end up but the mishaps and memories you create along the way.” – Penelope Riley

“The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there.” – L.P. Hartley, The Go-Between

“We find ourselves after airplane doors close and wheels touch the heavens. We discover the maps to our hearts when we lose the maps to this world. Wander, and find home in the people you meet. Wander, and find home inside yourself.” – Tyler Knott Gregson

“If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts.” – Adam Duritz

“Is there anything, apart from a really good chocolate cream pie and receiving a large unexpected cheque in the post, to beat finding yourself at large in a foreign city on a fair spring evening, loafing along unfamiliar streets in the long shadows of a lazy sunset, pausing to gaze in shop windows or at some church or lovely square or tranquil stretch of quayside, hesitating at street corners to decide whether that cheerful and homy restaurant you will remember fondly for years is likely to lie down this street or that one? I just love it. I could spend my life arriving each evening in a new city.” – Bill Bryson

“Like all great travelers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.” – Benjamin Disraeli

“I want to look at a map and be able to remember how I was transformed by the places I’ve been to, the things I’ve seen and the people I’ve met. I want to come home and realize that I have not come home whole but have left a piece of my heart in each place I have been. This, I think, is what is at the heart of adventure and this is why I plan on making my life one.” – Becca Martin

“Repetition doesn’t create memories. New experiences do.” – Brian Chesky

“One of my favorite vacation memories was the Thai foot massage and Internet access salons in Bangkok, followed up by my testing cellphone coverage while wading in Provincetown Harbor on Cape Cod.” – Kara Swisher

Old travel memories quotes

It’s easy to think of travel happening only in our time of airplanes, high speed trains, and

“Take only memories, leave only footprints.” – Chief Seattle

“Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.” – L.M. Montgomery

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – most commonly attributed to Mark Twain, but this quote likely came from H. Jackson Brown

Mark Twain is probably one of the most quoted authors on the planet. Many clever and inspiring quotes did originate from Twain, but the quote above isn’t one. It’s commonly attributed to Twain, but it likely originated with H. Jackson Brown’s 1990 book, P.S. I Love You.

Family travel memories quotes

“The greatest legacy we can leave our children is happy memories.” – Og Mandino

“Summer will end soon enough, and childhood as well.” – George R.R. Martin

Love social media? These quotes are perfect if you’re looking for throwback travel memories quotes for Instagram!

If you’re looking for inspiration for your wanderlust, you should find the perfect quotation above!

Excellent inspirational quotes, especially, “Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in an office or mowing your lawn. Climb that damn mountain.” I also like, “No one on their death bed says I wish I worked more.” Not sure who said that one.

Nice quotes, reading through them I mentally had flashbacks to the places I’ve gone.

I love these travel memories quotes! They make me want to pack my bags and head out on a new adventure!

key to positivity

It’s easy to forget the importance of getaways, but these travel quotes will help you remember. Whether your trip is long or short, you must have something to look forward to. Plus, you must embrace the time you are off and learn to relax during your trip. Those who are planning to combine their wedding and vacation may want to consider the Cayman Islands. You may click here for more info on what makes this place a great destination wedding spot. Domestic travelers, on the other hand, may want to visit Biloxi, MS and stay at one of their casino resorts like the one at this page https://www.palacecasinoresort.com/ .

These travel quotes will help you plan the trips you’ve always dreamed of. Plus, they’ll inspire you to visit new places you’ve never been to before. The quotes also help you commit to adventures and fully embrace life.

Travel Quotes Perfect for Vacation Planning

Spending time exploring new places will change your life, and these travel quotes will help you with your planning. Use these quotes to get inspired and excited about your future trips.

1. “It isn’t how much time you spend somewhere that makes it memorable: it’s how you spend the time.” – David Brenner

You can’t always take an extended trip, but you can still plan an exciting time. Even when you only have a few days off, plan activities that you’ll never forget. Spend your time in meaningful ways, and you’ll return to your daily life feeling refreshed.

travel quotes

When you plan a trip to a new location, remember this travel quote. Make sure you open yourself up to the influences of each place you visit. When you do this, you can see, hear, and experience life and culture in other areas of the world.

As you plan your trip, remember this quote and make an effort to experience the new environment. As Lerner explains, traveling with an open mind helps in your search for excellence.

3. “People should look for accessible vacation destinations the same way they look for any other vacation destination – based on their own personal tastes and preferences.” – Candy B Harrington

It doesn’t matter where you are going as long as you plan around your personal preferences. Choose places that will help you relax and that will be an enjoyable experience for you.

Don’t base your plans around what other people like because this is your trip. If you can remember this as you plan, you’ll come up with the perfect location for your trip.

4. “Think about it; how do you feel when you are planning a vacation? You feel excited and happy. Your stress level is diminished, and this also affects your work in a positive way.” – John Morgan

Sometimes planning a trip is just as much fun as going on one. As these travel quotes suggest, the planning process decreases stress levels and increases your productivity. When you’re thinking about the good time you’ll have, you’ll be happier in all areas of your life.

5. “I have never believed that vacations are luxuries. They are our necessities–just like shelter, clothes, and food, they make us feel like humans and not like animals that care only for survival.” – Alexander Babinets

As you plan your trip, remember that this is time for you to do the things you enjoy. Don’t think of it as a time of over-indulgence because you need this time to recover from daily tasks. You need this time to relax and let loose just as much as you need anything else in life.

6. “Once a year, go somewhere you have never been before.” – Dalai Lama

While it’s nice to visit your favorite places repeatedly, you must switch it up sometimes. As you plan your next trip, choose somewhere you haven’t been before. It’ll inspire you and help you gain wisdom about the world around you.

Even when you visit a new location, you don’t have to travel far. There are plenty of places around the world that you haven’t seen before. Do a little research during your planning to find somewhere new within your travel boundaries.

7. “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who has just had one.” – Elbert Hubbard

This is one of the best travel quotes for trip planning. Even if you have just returned from a trip, start planning your next one. When your experience is over, and you return to real life, you might feel a little disappointed.

By starting the planning of your next trip, you’ll bring back the feeling of excitement. Use the time you have to plan something new and exciting, and you’ll always have something to look forward to.

travel quotes

Leave time for spontaneous experiences and unexpected schedule disruptions. Even the most perfectly planned trip might not go as planned. Don’t try to micromanage every detail, or you’ll end up stressed out and disappointed.

Instead, make your plan but be open to disruptions and rearranging of your schedule. Your time off is a time for relaxation and fun, so don’t be too strict that it makes the experience terrible.

9. “An upcoming vacation gives us something to eagerly anticipate.” – Jaime Kurtz

No matter where you are going, you’ll look forward to it eagerly. This eager anticipation promotes joy and happiness in your life. You’ll be much happier than when you only have work and daily tasks in your future.

10. “A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it in.” – Robert Orben

Sometimes the perfect experience requires planning for nothing but downtime. Choose a location where you can relax so that you don’t feel like you’re missing anything. Everyone needs time to rest and recover from daily life without a time restriction.

11. “A vacation helps to relieve stress and boredom, gives us a change of scenery, provides us with adventure, and helps to bring us closer to the people in our lives.” – E. S. Woods

If you think you don’t need time off, then this is the travel quote for you. It would be best if you had time to destress and embrace the loved ones in your life. Plus, a change of scenery and a sense of adventure will inspire you and improve your productivity.

Remember this quote during your planning so that you remember how important time off is. When you remember that you need this time, the planning becomes more enjoyable and meaningful.

12. “Of journeying the benefits are many: the freshness it bringeth to the heart, the seeing and hearing of marvelous things, the delight of beholding new cities, the meeting of unknown friends, and the learning of high manners.” – Muslih-Uddin Sadi

Traveling improves your life in many ways that you might not realize right away. As this quote details, travel brings freshness to your life and allows you to see and experience many new things to do . You’ll meet people you wouldn’t have otherwise, and you’ll gain wisdom that you can’t find anywhere else.

13. “As you grow older, you learn a few things. One of them is to actually take the time you’ve allotted for vacation.” – John Battelle

It’s easy to say you don’t have time, but you must take a break from your daily life. You won’t enjoy life if you don’t ever make time for relaxation. Plus, you’ll be more productive when you return home than you would have been without a break.

If you’re reluctant to plan a trip, remember this quote about traveling. Please don’t feel bad for taking time off because it’s essential to your well-being.

14. “Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for.  Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.” – Maya Angelou

Everyone needs a chance to rest and recuperate without dealing with any problems. It’s a time for you to ignore the issues and stop searching for solutions. When you take this time, it helps you withdraw from your everyday stressors for a bit.

15. “A vacation should be just long enough that your boss misses you, and not long enough for him to discover how well he can get along without you.” – Jacob Morton Braude

When you plan for a trip, you’ll want to decide on the length of your trip. Don’t make the adventure so short that your boss doesn’t even notice that you’re gone.

However, it’s no longer temporary time off if your boss learns how to get the job done without you. Use this quote in your planning to help choose your trip length.

Final Thoughts on Remembering These Words to Inspire Your Next Vacation

Whether you’re in the final planning stages or haven’t started yet, these travel quotes will help you. These quotes will inspire you to plan trips that make you happy and help you relax.

Plus, travel quotes remind you of why you should plan a trip. Remember your favorite quotes as you start planning your next trip, and you’re sure to have the best time.

"You're Next": People Are Sharing The Last Words They Heard Someone Say As They Were Dying, And They're Not All Inspiring

There's so much we don't understand about the end of life.

Mike Spohr

BuzzFeed Staff

Recently, we shared a post where Quora users shared their experiences being present for the final moments of someone's life...and hearing their last words.

A person gently holds the hand of another person who is lying in bed, suggesting comfort and support

Well, as it turns out, BuzzFeed's readers wanted to share their experiences hearing someone's last words too, so we rounded them up here:

1. "a young woman was being run by gurney to the operating room, but the staff didn't think she would make it in time and charged into a room in the intensive care unit. the young woman had carried a full-term but not alive fetus for a couple of days and came to the hospital septic and bleeding out. during all the chaos, she was conscious. within minutes, an emergency hysterectomy was attempted, during which she coded. i was positioned by her head, and she spoke, 'i'm going,' before her head fell to the side, and she was gone. i'm not sure anyone else heard. was she announcing her passing to tell us we could stop it was a gentle utterance within a nightmare.", 2. "my girlfriend, gasping for her last breath, looked at me and said, 'you're next' that spooked the crap out of me, and i made a quick exit", 3. "i was a respiratory therapist, and a man said, 'look at all the beautiful flowers' he then passed away.".

4. "My son passed away at 35. He had an addiction to alcohol. In April 2022, he was admitted to a hospital in San Francisco and had to be revived by the staff in the ICU. Magically, he survived that incident. On the day he was released from the hospital, I walked with him, and he told me the ICU nurse advised him, 'Don't come back here again! People never survive a second time in ICU with the illness you have.' He told me it scared him, and he would do what it took to be sober. That same year, he called me on Thanksgiving day and said, 'I wish I were with you in Hawaii so we could walk together again.' That night, he was rushed to the hospital. We were never able to talk again as the brain damage caused by his heart-stopping for 15 minutes was too much. I still long for a walk with my boy."

5. "As a hospice nurse, I had the privilege of hearing many last words, but the most beautiful one came when I entered a patient's bedroom and almost sat down in her bedside chair. She stated: 'Oh please don't sit there — my angel is sitting there!'"

6. "i'm a former pediatric emergency registered nurse and have a heartbreaking one. i'm crying even now remembering it. a 5-year-old girl was about to die, and she said to her mother, 'oh, look, mama grandma is coming to take me to that park she said she loves you and we'll see you later. love you, mama bye bye.' she fell asleep. and she was gone 15 minutes later.".

7. "I once cared for an elderly gentleman with dementia who was slowly declining. He didn't speak much, and when he did, he didn't make sense. One of my co-residents had developed this very nasty rash around his eye, and when we went to see this patient together, he sat upright. Looking horrified, he pointed a finger at my co-resident's face and said, 'What happened to your eye?!' That night, he was transferred to the ICU and passed away. That was the last thing he ever said."

8. "I heard a dying mom say to her 45-year-old son: 'I know you so little but love you so much.'"

9. "a friend of mine, a buddhist, was dying of cancer. it is said that when you die you will be greeted by a thousand buddhas. after being comatose for several hours without opening her eyes she began saying 'hello' and 'i’m feeling wonderful, thank you' and 'i’m pleased to meet you' and similar phases for about 10 minutes. she then passed away with a smile on her face.".

10. "My father-in-law was known for his lectures on life. It drove me up the wall when he'd come over unannounced. It was then you'd know you were in for a 'lecture' and couldn't just hide or, better yet, lie and tell him we were leaving. So, anyway, in his last 10 years, he was experiencing a lot of health issues, and they didn't diagnose him with mesothelioma until six months before he died. When he went to hospice, I was the only one who would sit with him."

"I was studying for my Medical Assistant license, and at first, he would talk with me in between his morphine-induced deliriums, then it was nothing except opening his eyes and smiling and drifting off again. The last night, he 'woke' up and said, 'Hi Brenda, how are you doing?' He sounded so happy! Then he went back to dreaming in his morphine land. About midnight, I got up to go and bent down to kiss his forehead. He grabbed my hand and said, 'I've got to go.' And he went."

11. "Our youngest son had many health issues from severe hemophilia and HIV, as well as primary pulmonary hypertension (which is what did him in at age 32). As he lay on the floor in my arms at our local drug store, felled by his bad heart, he struggled to sit up as if he recognized someone or something and said, 'Y'all gotta be kidding me!' We were not Southerners, nor did we live in the South. I'd never heard such a deep and incredulous Southern accent from him before. And those were his final words. I felt the life leave his body then, and I told the EMTs to stop with the CPR. He was gone."

12. "i'm an er doctor. one afternoon, a young man in his late 30s came in with chest pain. he was having an st elevation mi (heart attack), which was surprising given his young age. i called the cardiologist, and as we were getting him ready to take him to the cath lab to open up his coronary arteries, the patient told me that he didn't want to go until he saw his wife. she was still about 45 minutes away from the hospital. he looked absolutely terrified. i told him that time was muscle and that the sooner we could open his arteries, the better he would be. i looked him straight in the eye and said, 'you're going to be fine. we do this all of the time.' i promised that i would meet his wife as soon as she arrived and bring her to the cath lab. he died on the table. his artery dissected (tore) during the procedure. it haunts me to this day.".

13. "My husband died of ALS in his 50s. In the ER, he opened his eyes, and his last words to me were, 'You're the best.'"

14. "my dad had serious heart issues but felt well enough one sunday morning to go on a trip to florida. he woke up and told my mom this was the best he had felt in years. a few minutes later, he told my mum his stomach was really hurting. mum told him she would make him some tea. when she returned to the bedroom, he was down on his knees talking to some unseen person. he looked at my mum, said, 'i'm going now,' and then passed away. mum always believed some heavenly person had come to get him.", 15. "years ago, my uncle was in the process of dying. he took in his last breath, then woke up and said to his mother, 'oh, mom you have to get ready — it's so beautiful over there.' he died peacefully, having given the family a glimpse of heaven.".

16. "My husband had a tragic accident with multiple broken bones and punctured lungs. Before he lost consciousness, he said, 'I'm so sorry. I love you.' He died two days later, having never regained consciousness."

17. "i was on my morning walk with my late husband when he grabbed his heart and said, 'i'm fine, keep walking.' i sat him down on a bench in a gazebo and saw his last breath — he died in my arms. that was 24 years ago (he was 54). he made dying look so peaceful.", 18. "working as a paramedic, a lady in the ambulance looked up at me and said, 'that’s it, goodbye.' she went into cardiac arrest and died.".

An ambulance with flashing lights is seen driving through a city at night

19. "My 89-year-old mother told my father, 'Bill, let’s make a break for it.'"

20. "a young man in his 20s received a cut at work that would not heal. he went to the doctor to find out he had leukemia. treatment failed, and he went into hospice care. when he asked us to call his family to his side, we knew the time was close. after loving goodbyes to his loved ones, he stated, 'time for me to go. the angels are here.' he died shortly after these last words — a beautiful exit from this world.", 21. "my brother-in-law was dying. it was sudden. my husband, his brother, and i stayed during the night shift. his breathing took a bad turn, and the nurses said we should call in family. my husband left to do that, leaving me in the room with him. he shot up suddenly, reaching out toward something, and said one small word: 'oh' it was said with incredible reverence, and it was like he was shocked and overwhelmed, but in a good way. it was a pure moment of total vulnerability and innocent beauty. and then he laid there and just died. i was in awe of it, and i still am.".

An older man with short gray hair looks upwards with a joyful expression, hands near his mouth. He wears a casual shirt and a ring on his finger

22. "A friend's brother-in-law was dying of cancer when, near the end, he got very excited and said, 'He's here! He's here! He's all around us.' The man then put his head down on the pillow, went to sleep, and never woke up."

23. "my dad collapsed suddenly in our hallway. after he fell down, i yelled, 'should i call an ambulance' and he clearly replied with 'no' despite already no longer breathing. we did, of course, call emergency services immediately after realizing it was serious and started reanimation. the emergency doctors took over and tried everything for almost an hour before one very kindly asked whether they should carry on and transport him or stop.".

"I knew that my Dad didn't want life-prolonging measures, but the situation was so sudden that I panicked and wasn't immediately sure how to respond...until I realized that my Dad, who had been severely ill for a long time, probably understood what was happening when he didn't want to call an ambulance — so we stopped CPR. Thank you so much for that, Dad. Your last word made it an easy decision."

24. "My friend hadn't spoken for days when, out of the blue, she said to someone unseen, 'Where the hell are we going?!' Those were her last words. She was 106."

25. "I was working as a nurse in a nursing home, doing the morning med pass. We had a husband and wife on our unit that the family had requested be in different rooms because although she had Alzheimer's (and was otherwise in great health), she would wear herself out taking care of him and fussing over him as she had done for all of their marriage (he had significant medical needs). I was in front of his room with the med cart when she pushed past it. I reminded her she wasn't supposed to go into his room until he was out of bed. She said, 'I just need to say goodbye. I'm going to see my mother, and I probably won't be back.' I chuckled to myself, thinking (since she was 85), If you're going to see your mother, you definitely won't be back . (Of course, I assumed it was a declaration she had made because of Alzheimer's dementia)."

"Not two minutes after she kissed him goodbye, the alarm went off, signaling a door had been opened by someone who hadn't used the code. The staff went running to catch her while I continued passing out meds. The next thing I see, the staff is dragging her body back into the unit to get the crash cart. She had literally walked out the door and dropped dead. Or, as she put it, she went to see her mother and didn't come back."

26. "My father served his country for 24 years in the United States Air Force and always gave great life advice. For example, he told me that once you become a parent, the job is for life until the day you die. Anyway, my father was on his deathbed at the age of 86. Two days before he passed, my younger brother and I started to fuss about Dad's condition in the ICU. I saw my father move his head and say to my brother and me without missing a beat: 'Cut it out!' I had to laugh, but in my laughter, I started to cry because right then and there, I remembered that he told me in my 20s that the job of a parent lasts a lifetime until death does us part. Dad winked at me and said, 'I'm ready to go home, son.'"

Psychologist Dr. Justin D’Arienzo discusses how the U.S. Navy may have detected the Titan’s implosion early on and whether the tragedy is similar to the Titanic on ‘The Evening Edit.’

An Ohio billionaire is planning to "Return to the Titanic," despite last year’s doomed voyage of the Titan Submersible .

A spokesman for Larry Connor confirmed reports to FOX Business that the real estate investor is partnering with Patrick Lahey, co-founder and CEO of Triton Submarines, to build a sub and return to the Titanic in the summer of 2026.

The Wall Street Journal reported that Connor called Lahey just days after OceanGate’s Titan submersible imploded last year while carrying five passengers and told him he wanted to build a sub that could withstand plunging the depths to visit the Titanic.

Connor, who is worth an estimated $2 billion, reportedly told Lahey that he wanted to "demonstrate to the world that you guys can do that."

"I want to show people that while the ocean is extremely powerful, it can be wonderful and enjoyable and really kind of life-changing if you go about it the right way," Connor told The Journal.

According to the report, Lahey and Connor will plunge the depths in the Triton 4000/2 Abyssal Explorer, a two-person vessel so named because it can dive an estimated 4,000 meters.

A spokesman for Connor told FOX Business that the mission "is to demonstrate the feasibility of constructing and operating a never-before-built, one-of-a-kind submarine capable of deep-sea exploration."

Triton Submarines describes the vessel as a "high-performance, flexible platform designed specifically for professional applications."

"Fully deployed, the Gull Wings raise the vehicle’s propulsion up and away from the seabed, ensuring that delicate species or free-floating objects remain undisturbed," reads a description of the vessel on Triton Submarines’ website.

The Titan submersible suffered a catastrophic implosion last June one hour and 45 minutes into its descent toward the wreck of the Titanic. The submersible passengers included U.K. billionaire Hamish Harding, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, father-son pair Shahzada Dawood and Suleman Dawood, and French mariner Paul-Henry Nargeolet.
