Early years and personal life [ edit ]

Jeremey Hunsicker grew up in Fort Myers , Florida near McGregor and spent his college years in North Carolina where he attended Brevard College . It was at Brevard that he met his wife Sabrina. [1] After college Hunsicker and his wife moved to Roanoke , Virginia where they currently reside. Hunsicker and his wife Sabrina have two children.

Frontiers [ edit ]

After performing in a number of bands, Hunsicker formed the Journey tribute band Frontiers in 2002. Hunsicker named his tribute band after Journey's 1983 album Frontiers . [2] What began as a part-time regional venture on weekends evolved into a full-time nationally touring tribute act.

Frontiers had many personnel changes over the years with the only constants being Hunsicker and Greg Eanes on the bass. It was Hunsicker's vocals that kept fans and agents alike coming to Frontiers time and time again. At its peak, Frontiers was one of the nation's most popular Journey tribute bands, performing over 150 shows per year.

Journey audition [ edit ]

After Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon found videos of Hunsicker on YouTube , they made a last-minute decision to fly across the country to Charlotte , North Carolina , to watch Hunsicker perform. After the show, Schon and Cain approached Hunsicker and invited him to fly out to California and audition for the position as lead vocalist for Journey . [3] [ unreliable source? ] Hunsicker rehearsed with the band and they wrote songs together for the band's upcoming album Revelation. Ultimately, things did not work out between Journey and Hunsicker, and the band decided instead to hire Arnel Pineda from the Philippines as their new lead vocalist .

Post-Journey [ edit ]

Hunsicker's brief time with Journey proved to be positive for his music career. Shortly after his brush with Journey , Hunsicker's band Frontiers, became so in-demand that he was able to quit his full-time job as a salesman for Saia Motor Freight and take his band to the national stage. [4] In addition when Journey's album Revelation was released, Hunsicker received credit for helping to write the albums leading track, "Never Walk Away." [5] When the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on December 3, 2008, Hunsicker was awarded as a songwriter on the album. [6]

Solo album [ edit ]

In early 2011 Hunsicker announced that he was planning to release a solo album that was to be called "Every Little Thing" under the name Jeremey Frederick. Hunsicker chose to use the name Jeremey Frederick in an effort to separate himself from his status as a platinum selling songwriter with the band Journey .

On Father's Day, June 19, 2011, Hunsicker released a streaming version of the first single from the album, a song titled "This is Your Life." Hunsicker wrote the song for his children. [7] On June 21, 2011 the song was released for sale on iTunes.

In late August 2011 Hunsicker released a streaming version of the second single from the album, "Stay." The song was released on iTunes on September 13, 2011. This date also marks the beginning of the Kickstarter campaign that Hunsicker used to help fund the album. During the summer of 2011 Hunsicker suffered financial setbacks that depleted much of the funds that he had set aside to produce the album. Without the funds needed to produce the album Hunsicker began seeking a source of funding. He discovered the website Kickstarter and launched a campaign to raise the $4,000 needed to complete the album on September 13, 2011. [8] The Kickstarter campaign for Every Little Thing ended on October 15, 2011 with 66 backers fully funding the album. [9] Hunsicker exceeded his $4,000 goal with backers pledging a total of $4,190.

With the funds to finish producing the album, a release date of December 26, 2011 was set for Every Little Thing. Due to a vocal injury, Hunsicker ultimately postponed the release of the album to March 6, 2012.

Vocal injury [ edit ]

In 2011 Hunsicker suffered vocal setbacks while touring with his tribute band Frontiers. In July 2011 Hunsicker had an incident with a fog machine in Toledo , Ohio that caused his vocal cords to go into spasm leaving him unable to finish the show. Later that year Hunsicker announced that he was suffering from a hemorrhaged vocal cord and that he was reducing the number of shows that he would perform. On December 8, 2011 Hunsicker announced on his website that he would have to undergo vocal cord surgery to remove a vocal cord polyp. As a result, he cancelled all remaining shows that were scheduled for 2011. He also cancelled shows scheduled for January and February 2012 to allow himself the time necessary to recover from the surgery. [10] Ultimately his vocal cords did not heal properly and Hunsicker had to have the surgery redone delaying his return to touring. [11]

Return to touring [ edit ]

In May 2012, Hunsicker returned to the stage with his band Frontiers. Due to his vocal injury Hunsicker was still unable to sing Journey songs. As a result, Hunsicker announced that he would have fill-in singers performing with the band to give his vocal cords additional time to heal. The band began relying on a handful of singers to perform at various shows. Despite the fact that he was unable to sing, Hunsicker accompanied his band playing keyboards for the summer 2012 shows. Because he did not know when he would be able to sing again, Hunsicker announced that he did not know if there would be a future for the band. [12]

End of Frontiers [ edit ]

On July 12, 2012 Hunsicker announced on the Frontiers website that he and his band were planning to call it quits after ten years. As a result of his vocal cord surgery that left him unable to sing Journey tunes, Hunsicker decided that this was the end of the road for Frontiers. [12] In the announcement, Hunsicker said that the band would perform all scheduled 2012 tour dates with fill-in lead singers and that they would not be booking any more shows. The last Frontiers show was on October 13, 2012 in Hickory, NC. [13]

Post Frontiers [ edit ]

Upon announcing that his tribute band Frontiers was calling it quits, Hunsicker founded the Big Bang Agency in July 2012. [14] Big Bang is a booking agency specifically targeted towards tribute acts. In addition to founding Big Band, Hunsicker decided to found a Tom Petty tribute band called The Waiting. [15] While the band initially booked very well, [ clarification needed ] The Waiting seemed to be short-lived. The band has not performed together since 2013. In 2012, Jeremey began work as a freelance direct response copywriter, specializing in the area of natural health. As of 2018 Hunsicker is the CEO of Hyperion, LLC and Online Publishing & Marketing. He is the Executive Producer of the documentary series Awakening from Alzheimer's and Regain Your Brain, produced in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

E5C4P3 was formed in June of 1993. From that year through 1999 E5C4P3 traveled nationwide and paid tribute to one of rock history's most beloved bands performing for tens of thousands of fans. E5C4P3 is still known today as the original and best Journey tribute band to ever exist. In 1999 E5C4P3 went on hiatus and the world was suddenly filled with multiple Journey tributes trying to fill the void that E5C4P3 left behind. In 2008, E5C4P3 was reformed to recreate the magic of a Journey concert like no one else can. The band covers the music with a note-for-note accuracy that is second to none and performs each show with the high-energy excitement of a real Journey concert as well as visually recreating the essence of early 80's Journey! Focusing on the 'Steve Perry era', E5C4P3 covers all the hits from 'Lights' and 'Wheel In The Sky' to 'Separate Ways' and 'Be Good To Yourself' including occasional surprises for all the die-hard Journey fans.

Tribute band's front man describes his amazing 'Journey'

Lead singer Jeremey Hunsicker of the Journey tribute band, Frontiers, is shown performing at one of the group’s many concerts. Frontiers will head to Houma’s City Club for a live show March 7.

Ohio-native Jeremey Hunsicker understands there are very few guarantees in the entertainment business.

That’s why he’s glad he can count on at least a dozen or so fans to show up at Houma’s City Club when he and his Journey tribute band, Frontiers, hit the stage March 7.

Hunsicker, who’s never visited Terrebonne Parish in his life, used to keep in regular contact with several employees at Saia Motor Freight’s general office in Houma. Hunsicker worked as a sales representative for Saia in Virginia for eight years before resigning to pursue Frontiers and other musical opportunities on a full-time basis.

“I’m excited about our performance there (in Houma),” Hunsicker said. “I hope I see some of my friends from Saia at the concert.”

Although Hunsicker’s band hasn’t stopped in Houma before, it doesn’t mean he’s not familiar with Louisiana.

According to Hunsicker, Frontiers has put on a few successful shows in Baton Rouge, Lafayette and New Orleans.

“As a tribute band it’s all about getting into a market before anyone else,” Hunsicker said. “I’d have to say we’ve done well in Louisiana. There definitely seems to be a loyal Journey fan base in south Louisiana.”

It is that fan base City Club owner Mike Fesi is hoping to tap into when tickets go on sale Feb. 27.

Tickets cost $14 for general-admission seats and $24 for VIP.

The original Journey belted out a series of hit songs such as “Wheel in the Sky,” “Faithfully” and “Don’t Stop Believing” in the late 1970s and ’80s.

“Me and the agent I work with thought this would be a good band to bring down because of their appeal locally,” Fesi said. “We want to continue to offer a good variety of music that’s affordable.”

Covering hit Journey songs has always been a dream for Hunsicker.

But he never realized he’d find himself in the middle of controversy when the real Journey asked him to audition for the band.

The band discovered his exploits after watching him sing on YouTube.

Hunsicker worked with the group for nearly four weeks before they decided to go elsewhere.

Along the way he wrote “Never Walk Away,” which ended up being the lead track on the now platinum-selling CD “Revelation.”

“It was a crazy time,” Hunsicker said. “We were in the process of finalizing a deal when they changed their minds about me.”

While he felt angry at first, Hunsicker has since turned his negative experience into a positive one.

“I’ve moved past it,” Hunsicker said. “The thing that hurts the most is not being able to learn more from them. Because of how it all played itself out, I didn’t have the chance to pick up as much from them as I would have liked too.”

Although he didn’t get to make it to the big time, Hunsicker said he’s content for now touring with his tribute band.

“What I love about this gig is the interaction I get to have with the audience while I’m on stage,” he said. “I feel that people have a real connection with Journey’s large catalog of songs. Even people that didn’t grow up during the group’s hay day have become fans of their music.”

Frontiers | The Journey Tribute is THE national full-time touring tribute to Journey. Performing over 150 shows yearly at some of the most prestigious music venues, halls, and theatres in the country, Frontiers has become one of the most sought after tribute acts in the nation.  The band regularly headlines sold out shows at House of Blues venues throughout the country. In addition to their extensive work with Live Nation, Frontiers has become a festival favorite, with a demanding schedule that keeps them on the road four to five days weekly throughout the entire year. The key to the band’s success is an unparalleled ability to live and breathe the music of Journey onstage – and a unique back-story that blurs the line between tribute and reality...

In May of 2007, Frontiers vocalist Jeremey Hunsicker attracted the attention of Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain and founding member and guitarist Neal Schon. In short order, Hunsicker found himself in San Francisco, writing songs and rehearsing the Journey catalog with the band, meeting with music legend Irving Azoff (manager of Christina Aguilera, The Eagles, Journey), and discussing an offer to move forward as the new vocalist of Journey.  As the summer drew on, however, it became clear that the band was on a different timetable, and with the birth of his first child imminent, Hunsicker asked the band to consider other alternatives.

His time with the band proved fruitful, however, as Hunsicker received RIAA Platinum Sales certification for his contribution to the Revelation CD. As word of Hunsicker’s brief brush with fame spread, demand for Frontiers continued to grow, and in June of 2008, the band became a full time endeavor, staying on the road for days at a time, and doing the sometimes grueling groundwork of breaking the band to a national audience.

In addition to Jeremey Hunsicker, the band consists of guitarist Stephen Chesney, bass player Greg Eanes, and drummer Chris Castelda, with touring keyboard players Chad Campbell and Billy Jones alternating shows. The band’s positivity, professionalism, and personal relationship with their fans is a testament to their staying power, as generations of Journey fans return to Frontiers’ always evolving performances year after year.

As nostalgia for all things Journey has reached a fever pitch, Frontiers has continued to recreate the music in the spirit of vintage live Journey in a way no others can. Visit Frontiers at www.journeytributeband.com , or www.facebook.com/frontiers.journeytribute .

Flashback: Journey Unveil Arnel Pineda at 2008 Concert in Chile

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Journey faced a very hard road back to the top after parting ways with Steve Perry in 1998. They came close to their first tour since 1986 just a couple years earlier, but Perry injured his hip during a hike in Hawaii and needed major surgery. Frustrated with the wait, they hired a soundalike named Steve Augeri (nicknamed “Steve Perry with a perm” by the fans) and toured steadily for eight years, but vocal problems and allegations of lip-syncing surfaced in 2006 and Augeri’s tenure ended. Jeff Soto stepped in for a couple of years, but he didn’t sound much like Perry and the fans never really accepted him. By the end of 2007 he was gone and Journey seemed to be headed into oblivion.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. The season finale of The Sopranos later that year kickstarted a wave of “Don’t Stop Belivin'” mania that continued in the following years when the song appeared in Rock of Ages , Glee and every karaoke bar on the planet. The public was hungry for more Journey, but they were a band with a major lead singer problem. Out of desperation they turned to YouTube and discovered Jeremey Hunsicker, the frontman of the Journey tribute band Frontiers. They flew him to California for an audition and came close to having him on the dotted line, but it ultimately collapsed. (Check out this interview for Hunsicker’s take on the situation.)

Right around this time, Journey guitarist Neal Schon went back onto YouTube and discovered a series of live videos by Filipino band the Zoo fronted by 39-year-old Arnel Pineda. They specialized in cover songs by 1970s and 1980s icons like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Survivor, Air Supply and Kenny Loggins. But the band truly shined when they played Journey. English may not be Pineda’s primary language, but when he sings Journey he seems almost possessed by the spirit of Steve Perry. A stunned Neal Schon flew Pineda out to California, and soon enough was telling the world that Journey found their new singer in Manila.

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

Journey’s first gig with Pineda took place February 21st, 2008 at the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile. It was a bold move to debut a new singer in front of such a large audience, but Pineda was quite up to the task. Check out video right here of “Don’t Stop Believin'” from that big night. Dates were soon booked all over the world, and the story of an unknown Filipino fronting a major rock band was an irresistible story for the media. The band even got booked on Oprah and became a subject of a documentary, helping Journey sell more tickets than they had since Perry left. “If it wasn’t for me finding Arnel, who knows where we’d be right now,” Schon recently told Rolling Stone . “He does bring it. Now that people know him and have seen him so many times, they understand him and they believe it. They know there’s conviction in it.”

Hovering over all of this is the mystery of Steve Perry. He’s kept a very low profile since wrapping up a short solo tour in 1995, but in 2014 he did reappear to sing a few songs with the Eels . It was enough to dispel rumors that his voice is shot, and now that Journey is getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame there’s a tremendous opportunity for him to finally get back onstage with Journey, even if it’s just for a couple of songs. “We’ll just have to wait and see what happens,” Schon said . “I suppose we’ll hear something about it a day before or the day of. Who knows? I would be surprised if it didn’t happen, but I’ll deal with it whichever way. I think it’s gonna be an interesting evening.”

Meet the New Cast of ‘Love Island USA' Season Six

Sturgill simpson is back with new tour, new album ... and a new name, 'the acolyte': this 'star wars' prequel series isn't a force to be reckoned with, normani channeled janet, recruited brandy, and put 'absolutely everything' into her album 'dopamine'.

Perry is refusing all interviews and only offered the briefest of brief statements: “I’m truly grateful that Journey is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.” It’s unclear if he even plans to show up, let alone sing a song or two with Journey. Schon said he doesn’t even have his phone number, so the mystery might linger right up until Hall of Fame night. But whatever happens, the very existence of the miracle that is Arnel Pineda means that Journey can keep touring for many, many years no matter what Steve Perry decides to do.

“And I actually had found a kid from this tribute band who was really really nails. It was close, you know? But maybe too much like you know who. There already was a you know who.”

““Jeremey Hunsicker…He was very good… but he was a bit scary because he was almost too much like Perry. He was almost like a duplicate, probably the closest of anyone out there.””

“Journey’s latest release, Revelation, was certified Platinum sales status on 12/18/08, denoting 1 million discs sold of the double CD set. The disc’s lead track, “Never Walk Away” was co-written by Jonathan Cain, Neal Schon, and Frontiers vocalist Jeremey Hunsicker in June of 2007.”

“Cain and Journey’s guitar player, Neil Schon, flew out to see a Frontiers performance and were won over by Hunsicker. The band flew Hunsicker out to California for a week to try him out in front of their management and to write music and practice with the band.”

“Hunsicker somehow got a writing credit on the real Journey’s new Wal-Mart-only album, but he gets far more enjoyment out of filling clubs with his sound-alike (if not look-alike) act. In a twisted way, that may make Frontiers the coolest cover band around.”

Jeremey Frederick Hunsicker (born April 13, 1971) is an American singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the Journey tribute band Frontiers. Hunsicker made national headlines in 2007 when he was briefly tapped by Journey as a potential lead vocalist and frontman for the iconic rock band. [1]

Early Years & Personal Life

Jeremey Hunsicker grew up in Fort Meyers , Florida near McGregor and spent his college years in North Carolina where he attended Brevard College . It was at Brevard that he met his wife Sabrina. [1] After college Hunsicker and his wife moved to Roanoke , Virginia where they currently reside. Hunsicker and his wife Sabrina have two children. Some people may not realize that Jeremey is also a talented artist and writer. As a student at Fort Myers Middle School, he used to draw cartoons about far away fantastic worlds. Often he would create images of fighting robots and battle droids. Sometimes he would hold "Fantasy Duels" with other creative classmates and they would pit their battle droids against each other to see whose design would win. [ citation needed ]

At its peak Frontiers was the nations most popular Journey Tribute band performing over 150 shows per year.

Journey audition

After Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon found videos of Hunsicker on YouTube , they made a last minute decision to fly across the country to Charlotte , North Carolina to watch Hunsicker perform. After the show, Schon and Cain approached Hunsicker and invited him to fly out to California and audition for the position as lead vocalist for Journey . [3] [ unreliable source? ] Hunsicker rehearsed with the band and they wrote songs together for the band's upcoming album Revelation. Ultimately things did not work out between Journey and Hunsicker and in the end the band decided instead to go with Arnel Pineda from the Philippines as their new lead vocalist .

Post-Journey

Hunsicker's brief time with Journey proved to be positive for his music career. Shortly after his brush with Journey , Hunsicker's band Frontiers, became so in-demand that he was able to quit his full-time job as a salesman for Saia Motor Freight and take his band to the national stage. [4] In addition when Journey's album Revelation was released, Hunsicker received credit for helping to write the albums leading track, "Never Walk Away." [5] When the album was certified Platinum by the RIAA on December 3, 2008, Hunsicker was awarded as a songwriter on the album. [6]

Vocal injury

Return to touring

End of Frontiers

On July 12, 2012 Hunsicker announced on the Frontiers website that he and his band were planning to call it quits after ten years. As a result of his vocal cord surgery that left him unable to sing Journey tunes, Hunsicker decided that this was the end of the road for Frontiers. [12] In the announcement, Hunsicker said that the band would perform all scheduled 2012 tour dates with fill-in lead singers and that they would not be booking any more shows. The last Frontiers show was on October 13, 2012 in Hickory, NC. [13]

Post Frontiers

Upon announcing that his tribute band Frontiers was calling it quits, Hunsicker founded the Big Bang Agency in July 2012. [14] Big Bang is a booking agency specifically targeted towards tribute acts. In addition to founding Big Band, Hunsicker decided to found a Tom Petty tribute band called The Waiting. [15] While the band initially booked very well, [ clarification needed ] The Waiting seemed to be short-lived. The band has not performed together since 2013. As of 2015 Hunsicker is self-employed as a copywriter. [16]

'everyman's journey': don't believe everything you hear.

Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey

  • Directors: Ramona S. Diaz
  • Genre: Documentary
  • Running Time: 113 minutes

With: Arnel Pineda, Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain

Some bands are born of passion and deep camaraderie, a collective desire to rebel against authority — or at least to look cool. Others are born because a major label threatens to drop them if they don't find a lead vocalist.

It's possible that Journey started as the former before morphing into the latter. Most people know the band as the hit-making arena rockers responsible for "Don't Stop Believin'," "Open Arms," "Faithfully" and other songs you danced to at your cousin's wedding. But before Steve Perry's soaring voice and lustrous hair launched them into the '80s stratosphere, Journey was a Bay Area jam band, turning out technically proficient prog rock with a jazz-fusion bent. When CBS Records demanded they change course after their first two albums flopped, they reinvented themselves as a pop act with Perry at the center.

The chart-topping Journey of the early '80s — Perry, guitarist Neal Schon, keyboardist Jonathan Cain, bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith — was only good for a few years, plus a reunion or two, but the nostalgia tours haven't stopped in the three decades since. Journey minus Steve Perry may sound unthinkable to some, but the core group of Schon, Cain and Valory has forged on with a succession of new lead singers and session players and a few modest-selling albums to tour behind. The question of artistic legitimacy post-Perry doesn't matter: Journey is a cash register that never stops ringing.

The thin documentary Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey tells the remarkable rags-to-riches story of the band's latest vocalist, Arnel Pineda, a Filipino singer whose uncanny cover of "Faithfully," posted on YouTube , caught Schon's attention one night. After eight years with Steve Augeri as frontman — a period that ended with a throat infection and accusations that the band was piping in pre-recorded vocals — and an aborted attempt to recruit Jeremey Hunsicker, the lead singer of a Journey cover band, Schon and company were desperate for a viable frontman. In the wake of The Sopranos ' series finale, which famously (and notoriously) ended with "Don't Stop Believin' " pumping through a diner jukebox, the time was ripe for a world tour. And with Pineda, they wound up hitting the jackpot.

Journey takes a pragmatic-old-pros approach to integrating its new lead singer; though Don't Stop Believin' emphasizes Pineda's rags-to-riches story, it's clear from the film that the band's main goal is the continuity of its business and brand.

The disparity between Journey's mercenary nature and Pineda's inspiring triumph over adversity comes through starkly in Everyman's Journey , but director Ramona S. Diaz doesn't seem conscious of it. She gets terrific footage of Pineda's rough initial studio sessions with the band, when he struggled to harness his voice, and of his first night on tour in Chile, where the adrenaline rush of performing before thousands of screaming fans had him zipping wildly around the stage. But in both cases, Journey members and management take a coolly analytical view of Pineda's flaws: His excitement is getting in the way of the pristine vocals the band (and its fans, presumably) has come to expect.

Sticking close to Pineda, Diaz hears heartbreaking stories of his broken family and deep poverty, including a period where he slept in a public park and literally sang for his supper. Had a fan not spent hours in an Internet cafe uploading grainy videos to YouTube, Pineda might still be belting out covers in the lounges of Manila, so he's understandably thunderstruck by the opportunity when Schon contacts him from out of the blue.

It's a dream come true — but it comes with a set of anxieties, too: Perry's shoes wouldn't be easy for any singer to fill, but for a poor young man from an underdeveloped country, the expectations of the band — and those of thousands of skeptical fans — are difficult to bear. Everyman's Journey glances at some of Pineda's problems on the tour, from a pesky cold to bouts of homesickness to the ugly specter of racist Journey fans, but it papers over them too quickly. Diaz insists on selling Pineda's promo-friendly myth at the expense of the richer, more complicated story of a dreamer who learns to become the durable professional his bandmates expect.

It's a cold-blooded business — and all sentiment aside, it's clear that Pineda is as replaceable as anyone.
