Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

For Jeepers, this is the best time of the year. Spring has arrived, and so has the Easter Jeep Safari (EJS). And with EJS comes this year’s crop of incredible concepts and product previews from Jeep. Every year, the brand manages to outdo itself, and this year is no different.

EJS is a week-long celebration of all things Jeep. Held since 1963, more than 20,000 people attended the event last year. It’s not an official Jeep brand event, but the company makes the trek to Moab along with its fans each year to celebrate the community.

This year, Jeep is bringing seven new concept vehicles to EJS — five that are like no Jeep on the road and two that hint at OEM upgrades that are likely to come to market soon.

2023 EJS Jeep Concepts

Now, let’s dive right into the 2023 EJS Jeep concepts.

Jeep Wrangler Magneto 3.0 Concept

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

This is Jeep’s third kick at the all-electric concept Wrangler can. Magneto 3.0 is also the last Magneto, Jeep said. Because by next year, there will be a production electric Jeep, the Recon . And Jeep’s head of design Mark Allen said that the company will be having a go at modifying that one as soon as possible.

Magneto 3.0 still has plenty of cool upgrades. Starting with a 2-door Wrangler Rubicon, Jeep cut the roof and stretched the door openings. The front door opening is now six inches longer, and the cool new B-pillar was pushed more than two inches rearward to fit the roll bar.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

The custom-built electric motor has two settings. Mild, with 285 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, and Maximum, that boots power to 650 horses and torque to 900 pound-feet. That torque figure is 50 higher than last year, and the power is still multiplied by a 6-speed manual gearbox taken from a Dodge Hellcat and then beefed up even more.

Seventy kilowatt-hours of battery are scattered in four packs around the EV. This year’s software updates give it 20 percent more range, though Jeep says this isn’t a range and charge speed exercise. It’s about using electricity to make a better off-road Jeep.

Dynatrac 60 front and 80 rear axles are fitted with 5.38:1 gearing. This year Jeep has added a new one-pedal “aggressive hill descent mode” to take full advantage of what the electric driveline can offer.

The electric motor turns 40-inch mud-terrain tires on 20-inch beadlock wheels. Magneto 3.0 has a custom 3-inch lift to make those meaty tires fit.

Jeep Scrambler 392 Concept

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

Jeep has built lightweight concepts for Easter Jeep Safari before. Concepts like Pork Chop, Stitch, and 4-Speed trimmed as much as half a ton from the Jeeps they were based on.

Scrambler 392 started as a 4-door Wrangler Rubicon 392 but was transformed into a 2-door. Jeep designers fitted rear bodywork from a Gladiator for a long-bed 2-door look. Then they laid back the windshield and lowered the roof, giving the rear all-new bodywork.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

Under the paint, much of that bodywork is carbon fiber. The side blades, roof, and door openings are all made from the composite. The same goes for the front fenders and the hood. That helps Jeep cut 450 pounds from the Scrambler 392 concept, helping it get up and over rocks and other obstacles.

The new fenders and lightweight bumpers help the 40-inch tires fit in the arches. The 20-inch wheels and the tow hooks are painted in Brass Monkey, just like a standard Wrangler 392.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Concept

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

When Jeep launched Tuscadero Pink in 2021, it expected around 3,000 orders. Turns out that Jeep really underestimated its customer base. The company had to extend pink production by a month and still couldn’t meet all of the demand.

Instead of another year of Tuscadero, Jeep is bringing a new pink to market. The chromatic magenta hue doesn’t have a name just yet, and it will still change a bit before production, but this Jeep is meant to get feedback on the brand’s next production pink. Let them know how you feel.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

The other show-off on this Jeep is the new AccuAir air suspension kit. The kit, which is also on the Scrambler 392, can lift the Jeep from 1.5 to 5.5 inches on demand. Pop it up to get through deep water or over a tough rock, or drop it to duck under overhangs. Or lower it so it’s easier to get in and out.

Other small changes include a 20th Anniversary grille and custom graphics. It wears 37-inch tires on wheels from AEV , as well as front and rear bumpers from the off-road accessory company.

1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

Jeep builds resto-mod concepts to try and inspire enthusiasts. The Cherokee 4xe is a 1978 Jeep Cherokee SJ that the company found on Craigslist for $2,500. It had a rough body and no engine, but Jeep didn’t want that old AMC mill anyway. Sorry, Jeep purists.

The Cherokee body was dropped on the chassis of a 2022 Wrangler Rubicon 4xe . That took some bodywork, like altering the wheel arches. Jeep’s designers and engineers added a ton of resto-mod-style upgrades, too, with plenty of new sheet metal. The front bumper is from a Wrangler Rubicon, and the rear is from a Gladiator.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

Jeep’s intent was a modern take on the “Good Vibes” campaign Dodge ran in the 1970s, and it is right on the mark.

The rear of the Cherokee is stripped, and it has a graffiti-look ceiling. The glass is all gone to give it an open-air feel. The seats are wonderfully ’70s, there is a gas cap from an AMC Gremlin, and the dashboard is home to an 8-track player. Which, unfortunately, isn’t hooked up.

Grand Wagoneer Overland Concept

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

The first Easter Jeep Concept based on the new Grand Wagoneer is a bit of an overlanding condo.

Jeep’s team got hold of a RedTail Overland Skyloft hard-sided rooftop tent. Though, calling it a tent is an understatement.

The carbon fiber Skyloft is weatherproof and is heated. It has dual pane windows, an integrated diesel heater, and up to 380 watts of solar power. This level of fancy camping is just perfect for the Grand Wagoneer.

Jeep pulled out the second- and third-row seats. Then they removed the rear sunroof to make a sort of escape hatch. You can climb up through that hatch to get into the Skyloft.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

The space where the seats were is now a lounge. It still has the Grand Wagoneer’s rear seat entertainment system. It also has two big beanbag chairs, a plush throw rug, and ambient lighting. It’s nicer (and larger) than my first three apartments.

Widened wheel openings and new flares help fit 35-inch tires on custom wheels. The larger tires raise the ride height an inch and a half. The Grand Wagoneer has a black Rhino-lined roof, and the body is painted in an industrial green.

Oh yeah, and the Grand Wagoneer has frickin’ laser beams! Jeep fitted laser-powered off-road lamps in the tweaked front bumper to light up the night.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Departure Concept

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

Departure is the first of the two concepts that promote parts Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) might build. The Departure gets a cool new tubular spare tire mount that can flip. Turn the spare into the trunk for a better departure angle, and turn it out for more cargo space. Whichever you need.

The Departure concept also gets a new tubular grille guard. The guard quickly folds down to give you a four-foot bench seat for relaxing on the trail.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

Windshield header-mount off-road lights fold upward on custom brackets. So they’ll still work with the window folded forward. There are rock lights at all four corners, JPP hard MOLLE panels in the roll bar, and new flat fender flares that hold bigger tires while staying street-legal for lighting requirements.

This one also has a Jeep Performance Parts 2.0-inch lift with Bilstein remote reservoir shocks. The 17-inch wheels wear 37-inch tires.

Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Sideburn Concept

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

Last but not least is the Sideburn concept. It gets the same 2.0-inch lift and shocks as Departure. It also has a folding grille guard bench and Warn winch .

Sideburn’s coolest bits are at the back. The sport bar is actually a two-tier cargo shelf. It’s made from carbon fiber and steel and has integrated steps to let you get to your stored gear. Eight tie-down loops let you lock in cargo totes.

Easter Jeep Safari Concepts 2023

The box sides are also super cool. Built-in MOLLE panels above and behind the arches give you more secure storage. There are integrated RotoPaX containers, too, letting you store liquids on the outside of the box. Other JPP bits include a heavy-duty vinyl floor system, side steps, grab handles, and half doors.

2023 Easter Jeep Safari Concepts

Jeep will bring all of the concepts to the trail at the 57th Annual Easter Jeep Safari on April 1-9. We’ll even get to drive them, so you can expect our up-close and personal take with more details and interior shots on these seven sweet rides very soon.

Jeep Easter Safari 2023 Preview: Modded Wranglers, Gladiators and Wagoneers Galore

We'll take one of each, please.

Jeep Magneto 3.0 concept front

  • Jeep unveils a slew of concepts and custom-made vehicles for this year's Easter Jeep Safari.
  • The Wrangler, Grand Wagoneer, Gladiator and even a classic Cherokee are all represented.
  • Marks the last year of the electric Magneto concept, as the production Recon EV is coming in 2024.

Am I Ready for an EV?

  • EV ownership works best if you can charge (240V) at home or at work This typically means a 240V home installation, but you could also have a similar setup at your office or other places your car is already parked for several hours each day. Don't expect a regular household outlet (120V) to suffice unless you've got a plug-in hybrid, in which case overnight charging at home is feasible.
  • If you can’t charge at home, charging at a charging station could take at least 10x longer than at a gas station With public charging infrastructure still in its infancy, the user experience can be maddeningly inconsistent. Tesla owners tend to rave about the reliability and speed of the company's proprietary Supercharger stations, but rival DC fast options have thus far been plagued by technical issues and overcrowding. It's an evolving landscape and our best advice is to do your research on the available options for the EV you want to buy.
  • Adding a 240V home charging system could cost up to $1,600 or more If your existing electrical service can handle the additional demands of EV charging, you may be able to add Level 2 charging at home for less than a grand, including installation. But your costs will multiply if you need to upgrade your electrical panel or add a dedicated circuit.

The snow is thawing, flowers are blooming, and there's romance in the air. That can mean only one thing — it's Easter Jeep Safari season! For one week each spring, off-road enthusiasts migrate to Moab, Utah, to drive their four-wheelers in the punishing desert clime. Even Jeep gets involved, bringing a handful of unique custom vehicles to the party to show off what their platforms are capable of, and what can be built with the vast Jeep parts catalog.

Here are all the vehicles the automaker is bringing to Easter Jeep Safari 2023:

Magneto 3.0

Easter Jeep Safari 2023 marks the end of the Magneto line — the two-door electric Wrangler concept — since the Wrangler-like Recon EV is due next year. Jeep is sending this third-generation concept out with a number of upgrades that hopefully make their way to the Recon. Additions for 2023 are highlighted by the new dual driving modes. The more pedestrian mode limits output to 285 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque, which is roughly the same as the standard Wrangler with the gasoline V6. The other mode, which we might as well call "Unwrangled," boosts this to 650 hp and 900 lb-ft (an increase of 25 hp and 50 lb-ft compared to Magneto 2.0 ).

Other tweaks include door openings cut back 6 inches to help you get in and out, a steeper rake for the windshield, and custom anti-roll bars. The Bright White/Surf Blue exterior paint scheme has a new design and now features red accents for a sporty feel.

Scrambler 392

The Scrambler 392 looks similar to the Magento 3.0 — both are open-door takes on the Wrangler and the passenger areas end behind the front seats — though the Scrambler is based on a four-door model so its bed is a bit larger. More importantly, as the name suggests, the Scrambler is powered by the mighty 392-cubic-inch (or 6.4-liter) V8 available on the Wrangler Rubicon. Carbon-fiber body panels are employed to lower weight, while an air suspension gives a maximum 5.5-inch lift. The exterior is finished in Sublime Green, and the cabin features plaid blue cloth inserts with green accents.

Wrangler Rubicon 4xe

The third of Jeep's custom Wranglers doesn't have a fancy name, and neither does the deep magenta paint that is this vehicle's signature. It's a nod to the Tuscadero (pink) color that was available a couple years ago, but this has more of a purple hue. This concept features half-doors, 17-inch AEV beadlock wheels with 37-inch BFG mud-terrain tires, a Warn winch and an air suspension with a maximum lift of 5.5 inches. Plus, the 4xe (plug-in hybrid) powertrain means you also get cool blue accents on the outside.

Wrangler 4xe Departure

While much of what you see on the Wrangle 4xe Departure is custom-made, a number of its add-ons are actually available through the Mopar parts catalog. These include the tube doors, a 2-inch lift kit, Warn winch, rock rails and all-weather cargo mats. From there, the design team engineered a custom grille guard that folds down to create a makeshift bench, a spare tire holder that can rotate to store the tire on the outside or inside, and brackets to hold the trio of 11-inch Tyri lights up top. The vehicle is finished in Dark Harbor blue on top of a two-tone brown interior.

Gladiator Sideburn

Perhaps as a nod to mulleted action stars of the 1970s, the Gladiator Sideburn is actually a party up front and in the back. This Gladiator is painted Solar Flash Yellow and shares quite a few Mopar bits with the Departure, above. It starts to get really interesting once you move aft of the rear doors. The bed frame and sport bar directly behind the doors are made of steel and carbon fiber, and feature a two-tier storage system and Molle panels for attaching pretty much anything you can imagine.

Grand Wagoneer Overland

Overlanding is Hansel-levels of so hot right now, and it's only natural that Jeep jumps in with its own Grand Wagoneer Overland. Based on the short-wheelbase version of the luxe Grand Wagoneer, its centerpiece is the RedTail Overland Skyloft rooftop camper — a hard-sided camper with solar panels, heating and power, double-paned windows and more. But the Grand Wagoneer is extensively modified, too. The second- and third-row seats are removed, as is the rear panel of the panoramic sunroof. It's replaced by a trapdoor for easy Skyloft access. The muddy Industrial Green paint job is complemented with laser exterior lighting and custom wheel arches and front bumper.

1978 Cherokee 4xe

This concept vehicle started its life as a 1978 Jeep Cherokee SJ plucked from the depths of an internet marketplace. Next, it was matched with a Wrangler Rubicon 4xe chassis and drivetrain and then painted with period graphics. At a glance, only the signature blue 4xe tow hooks give away this restomod. Inside there are low-back bucket seats (sans head restraints), a four-point roll cage and a platform on which a spare tire sits.

Edmunds says

Jeep's EJS vehicles never fail to surprise and impress, but pour one out for the end-of-line Magneto. Hopefully we'll see an extreme Recon EV at next year's Easter Jeep Safari.

It’s springtime, and for Jeep fans, that can only mean two things: The 57th Easter Jeep Safari in Moab , Utah, is right around the corner, and Jeep has a bunch of rad concept 4x4s to show off at said event. Jeep has been building show trucks for EJS for years, and the 2023 crop of seven custom rigs might be Jeep’s best showing yet.

Jeep Wrangler Magneto 3.0 Concept

Image for article titled Check out All 7 of This Year's Easter Jeep Safari Concepts, Including an Amazing Cherokee Restomod

This is the third all-electric Wrangler-based concept Jeep has built for EJS, and it’s a ripper: The EV concept makes up to 650 hp and 900 lb-ft of torque. All that power flows to the axles through a six-speed manual transmission — an unusual choice for an EV, especially one with enough torque that, assumedly, it could easily get up and go from a stop in sixth gear.

Magneto 3.0's hot-rod proportions come from a bunch of subtle bodywork changes: The door opening kicks back an additional six inches versus stock, the windshield has been laid back, and the front fenders were stretched rearward. The silent rock-crawler sits on 40-inch tires mounted to 20-inch beadlock wheels.

Similar to the Magneto concept, but strikingly different as well, the Scrambler 392 is a modern take on the CJ-8 Scrambler, a short-bed pickup built from the Wrangler’s grandaddy. This version packs a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 and bodywork that began as a four-door Wrangler Rubicon.

AccuAir air suspension adjusts the ride height from 1.5 inches over stock to 5.5 inches, and the rear offers an open-air pickup bed with the tailgate from a Jeep Gladiator. Like Magneto, the Scrambler 392 rides on 40-inch tires wrapped around 20-inch rims.

1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept

This is always my favorite part of Jeep’s annual EJS concept showcase: When the company takes a vintage Jeep body and drapes it over a modern Wrangler chassis to create something amazing. This year, Jeep found a 1978 Cherokee (which at the time was a two-door version of the Wagoneer) and stretched and tweaked the bodywork to fit on top of a 2022 Wrangler Rubicon 4xe frame. Yep, this full-size Jeep is a plug-in hybrid, with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder backed by battery power for an additional boost.

I mean, look at this thing. From the orange and red stripes to the slotted five-spoke wheels, it’s delightfully vintage and modern at the same time. You gotta see the interior, too:

Jeep has an advantage when it comes to building restomods like this: A brand-new JL-generation Wrangler is constructed in basically the same way as this ‘70s SJ, with a ladder frame and solid axles front and rear. Throwing a historic body on a modern chassis has become a tradition for EJS, and I for one adore it.

The big thing about this “concept” is that it’s purple. Back in 2021, Jeep debuted a one-year-only purple-pink paint color called Tuscadero that proved way more popular than the company expected. This year ... well, I’ll just quote Jeep’s press release: “the Jeep design team decided to up the ante on this head-turning chromatic magenta color. The team drew a line in the Moab sand and decided it was time to flip the color’s perception and make it a lot tougher than expected.”

So yeah. It’s purple. I really dig this color. No word on whether Jeep will offer this paint on production Wranglers. I say go for it.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Overland Concept

Image for article titled Check out All 7 of This Year's Easter Jeep Safari Concepts, Including an Amazing Cherokee Restomod

Hey look, it’s a Van Life Wagoneer! The big news here is the custom RedTail Overland Skyloft rooftop tent, made of carbon fiber and light enough to open with one hand, Jeep says. But there’s more to this concept than the tent: Jeep took out the second and third row of seats and removed the glass in the rear-most portion of the Wagoneer’s panoramic sunroof to create a sealed pass-through between the SUV and the tent. The cargo area is coated in truck bed liner and decked out like a millennial’s living room, with bean bag chairs and ambient lighting.

But of course, the big news is upstairs:

Image for article titled Check out All 7 of This Year's Easter Jeep Safari Concepts, Including an Amazing Cherokee Restomod

Jeep calls the paint color on this thing “Industrial Green,” and a Warn winch, 35-inch tires, and altered front and rear bumpers for more clearance mean this thing might have half a chance of keeping up with a Wrangler on the trails.

Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Departure Concept

Image for article titled Check out All 7 of This Year's Easter Jeep Safari Concepts, Including an Amazing Cherokee Restomod

Now we’re moving into the more real-world concepts. Departure was built to showcase a bunch of stuff from the Jeep Performance Parts catalog, including a fold-down front grille guard, high-clearance spare tire mount (which improves the rig’s departure angle, hence the name of this concept), high-clearance fender flares with DOT-required lighting, and a concept light bar on top of the windshield.

Image for article titled Check out All 7 of This Year's Easter Jeep Safari Concepts, Including an Amazing Cherokee Restomod

More stuff! The tube doors come from Jeep Performance Parts, and take a closer look at that spare tire carrier. It replaces the tailgate and can be configured in two ways: With the spare facing inward, you get maximum departure clearance, and with the spare flipped facing out, it acts as a bed extender for more cargo space. Nifty!

Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Sideburn Concept

Image for article titled Check out All 7 of This Year's Easter Jeep Safari Concepts, Including an Amazing Cherokee Restomod

They call it “Sideburn” for the anodized black steps behind the rear doors. This Gladiator has a JPP 2-inch lift kit, 37-inch tires, the same fold-down grille bar seen on the Departure concept (which Jeep says you can use as a bench when it’s folded down), a winch, a bunch of auxiliary lights, and custom storage solutions for the bed.

Check out the Jerry cans molded into the bed sides, and the Molle panels for even more storage.

Easter Jeep Safari kicks off on April 1 and runs through April 9. If you’re going to Moab, check out these Jeep concepts while you’re there!

Jeep® Brand Hits the Trails at 57th Annual Easter Jeep Safari With Collection of New Concepts

  • google-plus
  • Impressive lineup of Easter Jeep Safari concepts from Jeep® heading to Moab, Utah, April 1-9
  • Seven one-of-a-kind Jeep concept vehicles take four-wheeling to the next level and prove why there’s nothing quite like legendary Jeep 4×4 capability
  • Jeep brand’s mission of Zero Emission Freedom takes charge with four new electrified concept vehicles, including the reimagined Jeep Wrangler Magneto 3.0
  • All concept vehicles are equipped with an array of advanced powertrains and showcase the latest prototype and production parts

March 30, 2023 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – An entirely new collection of eye-catching, efficient and mission-capable concept vehicles will be unveiled and driven off road during the 57th annual Easter Jeep Safari, April 1-9, 2023, in Moab, Utah, the Jeep® brand’s home away from home. Electrified power and commanding performance will be front and center during this year’s Safari. The Jeep brand and Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar design teams have created several one-of-a-kind rock-crawling and terrain-traversing vehicles that will take four-wheeling to the next level and prove why there’s nothing quite like legendary Jeep 4×4 capability.

“Every year, more than 20,000 Jeep enthusiasts descend on Moab, Utah, for Easter Jeep Safari to wheel in the most extreme off-road conditions, where our engineers continue to push the capability of our Jeep vehicles to next levels,” said Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America. “It’s the perfect place to showcase our seven new Jeep concepts, because it’s with these Jeep enthusiasts that we’ll be able to push the limits even more and get their feedback on where they want to take the Jeep brand into the future.”

This year, seven distinctive Jeep brand and JPP concept vehicles are equipped with an array of advanced powertrains. Back by popular demand is Jeep Wrangler Magneto, the first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) concept from the Jeep brand. The third iteration of the powerful and capable Jeep Wrangler SUV concept, Magneto 3.0, and three additional Jeep 4xe concept vehicles are testament to the Jeep brand’s commitment to Zero Emission Freedom and 4×4 leadership. Each concept also features the latest production and prototype JPP from Mopar, developed with rigorous specifications and legendary 4×4 capability in mind.

“Our annual trip to Moab allows us to showcase the latest selection of custom and authentic, quality-tested Jeep Performance Parts from Mopar,” said Mark Bosanac, North America senior vice president, Mopar service, parts and customer care. “Unlike any other aftermarket offerings, our growing portfolio of factory-tested and factory-backed parts and accessories are specifically designed and engineered to face the toughest trails in the world.” The 2023 Easter Jeep Safari concept vehicles include: Jeep Wrangler Magneto 3.0 Concept Third time’s a charm for this off-road beast. When the Jeep design team began building the Jeep Wrangler Magneto concept, the intention was always to use the platform to test, discover and push the boundaries of 4×4 electrification. The Jeep Magneto 1.0 concept was first introduced in 2021 as a fully capable BEV that was stealthy, quiet, quick and an unmistakable rock-climbing force. Jeep brand engineers and designers created a zero-emission vehicle with Jeep 4×4 capability that provided new levels of efficiency, environmental responsibility, and extreme performance on and off road. Based on a two-door 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, the Jeep Magneto features a custom-built axial flux electric motor that operates up to 6,000 rpm and connects to a six-speed manual transmission for ultimate control. The compact e-motor was initially tuned to deliver up to 273 lb.-ft. of torque and 285 horsepower. The debut of the Jeep Magneto 2.0 concept in 2022 pushed the performance envelope further. Peak amperage in the propulsion system was more than doubled to 600 amps, which enabled the concept vehicle to instantly deliver up to 850 lb.-ft. of peak torque to the wheels – more than triple the torque output of the previous version of the concept – and 625 horsepower for serious rock-climbing challenges. Updates to Jeep Magneto this year include a new, more efficient motor that boosts the torque output, as well as updated programming, which results in a 20% increase in useable energy and range. Also new to the Jeep Magneto 3.0 concept this year are three driver selectable functions that capitalize on the benefits of a fully electric powertrain in serious off-road situations:

  • Output select allows the driver to choose between two power settings (standard: 285 horsepower/273 lb.-ft. of torque; maximum: 650 horsepower/900 lb.-ft. of torque)
  • Two-stage power regeneration mode allows normal driving while off, or enhanced brake regeneration using the electric motor when engaged
  • Aggressive hill descent mode can be selected in low range to offer true ‘one pedal’ off-road driving in serious rock-crawling situations

Adding to its prowess are Dynatrac 60 front axles (5.38:1 ratio), Dynatrac 80 rear axles (5.38:1 ratio), 20-inch off-road beadlock wheels, 40-inch mud terrain tires and a custom 3-inch lift. The Jeep Magneto 3.0 concept also tests the concept vehicle’s proportion. For ease of access, the door opening has been modified and swept back an additional six inches. For added accessibility, a new B-pillar was moved rearward 60mm from stock to make way for a custom anti-roll bar. The front fender was stretched back on the trailing edge two inches. The windshield has been raked back 12 degrees to give the side view a “chopped” roof feel without shortening the front glass. Jeep Magneto 3.0 has an updated paint scheme that pays homage to all three evolutions of the concept vehicle. The Bright White and Surf Blue motif remains, but the third iteration introduces more vibrant exterior details, including the addition of red accents. The Jeep Magneto 3.0 concept front seats have been re-trimmed in a rich blue leather and adorned with red accent stitching to match the exterior. The rear seats have been removed and the floor has been Rhino-lined in Surf Blue for added functionality and durability. Jeep Scrambler 392 Concept Originally introduced in 1981, the Jeep Scrambler (CJ-8) was the Jeep brand’s first convertible, compact truck. Highly capable and versatile, this unique small pickup truck was similar to the CJ-7, but featured a longer 103-inch wheelbase and a long rear overhang for increased cargo space. Fast forward four decades, the Jeep Scrambler 392 concept builds on the fun, open-air origins of the CJ-8 with a powerful twist. Though a V-8 engine was never offered in the CJ-8, the 392 Scrambler concept offers impressive power and incredible torque with its 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 engine (470 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque). The Jeep Scrambler 392 concept, which started as a four-door Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, also emphasizes lightweight off-road performance, achieved through custom carbon-fiber bodywork. The transformation showcases the Scrambler’s new two-door aesthetic with an open-air freedom personality. The windshield is laid back 12 degrees and matches a lower roof. The modified silhouette gives a nod to chopped top hotrods. One of the most exciting features on the Jeep Scrambler 392 concept is the newly released AccuAir air suspension kit developed for the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator. This system allows an adjustable suspension lift ranging from 1.5 inches up to 5.5 inches and can be custom adjusted on the fly with an in-cab controller or through long-range Bluetooth on a wireless device. The sculptural rear quarter panel is designed to emphasize the door aperture, as well as wider rear flares. The updated bodywork also includes a new front fender flare and a new carbon-fiber hood. In the middle of the hood rests a tinted clear insert to spotlight the heart of the Jeep Scrambler 392 concept, its monster 392-cubic-inch engine. Custom front and rear lightweight bumpers and the new fender flares provide added clearance for a larger tire and wheel combo. The Jeep Scrambler 392 concept sits on 40-inch tires wrapped around custom 20-inch rims. The rims and tow hooks are finished in Brass Monkey paint, the same as today’s stock Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392. The exterior of the concept is painted in Sublime green, while the interior boasts custom seats with plaid blue inserts and green stitching. 1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept Another trip down memory lane leads to this year’s Resto-mod concept build. First introduced in 1974, the Jeep Cherokee (SJ) was a sporty, two-door version of the Wagoneer and featured bucket seats, a sports steering wheel and racy detailing designed to appeal to younger, more adventurous drivers. A year later, the Wide-Track option was available with key upgraded features, including exterior stripes, larger tires, 3-inch wider axles, larger front and rear wheel cutouts, Dana 44 front and rear axles and an interior with more creature comforts. Which leads us to the present day of this concept vehicle-loving journey. To pay homage to the Jeep Cherokee SJ, a first-of-its-kind vehicle with on- and off-road chops, the Jeep design team set out to reimagine the iconic full-size SUV with a modern spin. The Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept began its life as a 1978 Jeep Cherokee, which was affectionately blended with a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe. The original Jeep Cherokee was intended to take the Jeep Cherokee SJ to the next level of performance, and that ethos rings true for this concept vehicle. The original body was heavily modified and the exterior fuses original proportions with a bright, unmistakably 1970s-theme multicolor paint scheme. While the ’78 Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept looks similar to a vintage Jeep Cherokee SJ at first glance, it has transformed into a modern, electrified, off-road performer. Under the hood, the ’78 Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept features the advanced Jeep Wrangler 4xe powertrain, which provides a unique on- and off-road experience through the combination of two electric motors, a high-voltage battery pack and a high-tech 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission is mated to a 4:1 transfer case to deliver more than enough power to 37-inch tires wrapped around custom 17-inch “slotted mag” style wheels. The Jeep ’78 Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept’s custom interior features low-back bucket seats trimmed in leather. The rear bench seat was replaced with a four-point safety cage, and the rear cargo space houses a full-size spare tire just in case the trail gets a little too wild. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Concept Following the overwhelmingly positive reaction to the special-run, limited-edition Tuscadero exterior paint color that debuted in 2021 for Jeep Wrangler models, the Jeep design team decided to up the ante on this head-turning chromatic magenta color. The team drew a line in the Moab sand and decided it was time to flip the color’s perception and make it a lot tougher than expected. Enter this special Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe concept with its legendary electrified off-road capability, unapologetic color palette and a powerful platform for any adventure. The exterior of the Jeep concept boasts an eye-catching, pink-hued paint with Gloss Black accents sprinkled across the front grille and headlamp bezels. The signature seven-slot grille was borrowed from the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary model, which sets off a custom hood graphic with a tone-on-tone print that fittingly ties into the interior theme. Off-road capability has been increased with the addition of an adjustable AccuAir air suspension kit to allow ample clearance for massive 37-inch tires that are wrapped around custom 17-inch high-gloss black American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) Borah wheels. Additional AEV pieces include front and rear bumpers, differential covers and a Warn Zeon winch. Grand Wagoneer Overland Concept Over the hills and through the Canyonlands we go with the cross-trekking 2023 Grand Wagoneer Overland Concept. The all-new Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer vehicles reinterpret their own legacies and take the premium SUV into uncharted territories of comfort and adventure. With this in mind, the go anywhere, do anything concept vehicle takes off-road exploration to the next level – and in true Grand Wagoneer style. The Grand Wagoneer Overland concept leverages the all-new 3.0-liter Hurricane Twin Turbo 510 engine to lead adventure-seekers further off the beaten path. Delivering 510 horsepower and 500 lb.-ft. of torque, the powerful Hurricane engine offers premium performance while also delivering improved fuel economy versus many competitors’ naturally aspirated V-8 and boosted six-cylinder engines. The overlanding-inspired concept boasts an incredible amount of appointments inside and out. The concept’s main feature is a custom RedTail Overland Skyloft affixed to the top of the Grand Wagoneer’s roof. The carbon-fiber constructed Skyloft unfolds in around 10 seconds from the inside by simply pushing up with one arm. To accomplish the Skyloft’s integration, the design team began by removing the second- and third-row seats. The rear-most sunroof was repositioned to create a custom weatherproof, pass-thru entrance from the lower third-row seating area to the upper Skyloft level. A fore/aft sliding door and a small step, which also doubles as a usable table, allows for easy access. The Skyloft provides a climate-controlled oasis complete with a sleeping space for two people and enough windows to soak in even the most panoramic views. And while the Skyloft may be the optimal choice to take in a starry night, the main cabin space below also received plenty of attention to detail. Whether it’s to escape a quick downpour or change out of muddy hiking gear, the concept’s truck bed-lined cargo floor handles any outdoor element with ease. To complement the Grand Wagoneer’s rear seat entertainment and other creature comforts, the cozy interior was appointed with two oversized beanbags, a plush throw rug, pillows and custom, ambient interior lighting. The spacious interior also provides ample storage for bikes, gear and anything else worthy of the trip. The exterior of the Grand Wagoneer Overland concept is painted in Industrial Green with Gunmetal accents. A massive Warn winch was added to the front grille and features two sets of custom laser lights for superior night-time visibility. A durable, black Rhino-lined roof has a subtle pop of orange color to pay homage to the countless amounts of outdoor gear used by overlanding enthusiasts. Larger wheel openings and custom wheel flares, as well as a custom front chin and rear valance help complete the look, while also delivering aggressive approach and departure angles for superior off-road capability. The concept’s 35-inch tires wrapped around custom 18-inch wheels provide a natural 1.5-inch lift to the vehicle for added breakover and ground clearance. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe Departure Concept The Jeep Wrangler 4xe Departure concept builds upon the iconic open-air cockpit of the best-selling and most capable PHEV in America with innovative and conceptual items from the JPP by Mopar design team. Notably, the spare wheel and tire mount allows the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe to push the limits of available departure angles with 4×4 electrification. Riding on 17-by-8.5-inch Vintage Bronze KMC Impact OL wheels and 37-inch BFGoodrich tires, the Wrangler 4xe Departure concept features a JPP 2-inch lift kit with BILSTEIN performance shock absorbers. The BILSTEIN shocks use remote reservoirs to provide greater cooling capability for increased suspension travel and improved Jeep 4×4 off-road capability. Protecting the seven-slot front grille first introduced on the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary edition is a custom-designed tubular grille guard measuring 4 feet by 1 foot that folds down to create an innovative bumper bench, a perfect relaxation perch for two while out on the trails. Below the grille guard is a modified Rubicon bumper with a Warn winch. New, custom, flat-fender flares and wheel liners, designed specifically for larger wheel and tire combinations, provide additional clearance. The flat fender flares have integral removable daytime- running-light (DRL) covers for the off-road enthusiast who may require extra tire clearance for extreme off-road situations. This concept is the first 50-state legal fender flare with OEM DRL and meets 50-state tire coverage requirements. The design team continues to explore customer needs by investigating additional trail lighting. The Wrangler 4xe Departure concept uses three concept header-mounted, 11-inch TYRI rectangular LED lights with custom brackets that mount to the backside of the windshield header. Each light easily pivots out of the way when the windshield is folded down. Illuminating the ground at all four corners are custom rock lights. Custom rock rails with mounted slider tubes provide enhanced body protection and easier access to the elevated cabin, while JPP tube doors provide the ultimate open-air experience. For added storage capacity, the Wrangler 4xe Departure concept features Molle panels that attach to the sport bar and the body tub to house additional trail-rated accessories that need a mounting point. The design team used the Wrangler 4xe Departure concept to explore innovative options to mount the spare wheel and tire, while keeping harmony with other accessories. At the rear is a custom convertible tube gate that offers front- or rear-facing positions for the spare wheel and tire. When the spare is flipped outward, the system acts as a bed extender to provide more cargo space. When the gate is turned toward the cabin, the rear overhang is greatly improved for off-roading while the spare wheel and tire are safely secured. The convertible gate maintains a factory backup camera and CHMSL in either position. The rear cargo compartment features Jeep Rubicon trail rails with tie downs to store additional accessories, and a signature JPP all-weather cargo mat. The stunning Dark Harbor blue exterior on the Wrangler 4xe Departure concept is contrasted inside the cabin with the vivid chromatic seating surfaces. The design team uses an expressive color combination of light Acorn Squash Nappa leather contrasted with darker Carnegie Hall brown Nappa leather, accented with warm off-white Serafil stitching. The Dark Harbor blue color continues onto the instrument panel, which features various Vintage Bronze accents. The Wrangler 4xe Departure concept also features a concept instrument panel accessory rail to mount phones or accessories for recording trail rides. For the driver, stainless-steel JPP pedal covers include black rubber pads, adding plenty of traction to the accelerator and brake pedals. In addition, JPP door-grab handles provide easy entry and exit. The new JPP heavy-duty vinyl flooring system is available now for all production four-door (JL) Wranglers. With integrated Jeep floor drains it allows for easy interior cleaning. Jeep Gladiator Rubicon Sideburn Concept The Jeep Gladiator Sideburn concept, wearing a striking Solar Flash Yellow, explores new tools designed for the burgeoning interest in off-road adventure. Powered by a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, the Gladiator Sideburn concept features a JPP 2-inch lift kit with BILSTEIN performance shock absorbers. The BILSTEIN shocks use remote reservoirs to provide greater cooling capability for increased suspension travel and improved Jeep 4×4 off-road capability. At all four corners, black HRE 17-by-9-inch FT1 six-spoke wheels ride on 37-by-13-inch BF Goodrich tires. Protecting the seven-slot front grille borrowed from the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 20th Anniversary edition is a custom-designed tubular grille guard measuring 4 feet by 1 foot that folds down to create an innovative bumper bench, a perfect relaxation perch for two while out on the trails. Below the grille guard is a modified Rubicon bumper with a Warn winch. Responding to customer feedback and debuting on a Gladiator Sideburn concept, the JPP by Mopar design team installed a pair of removable 11-inch TYRI rectangular LED lights to each of the roof panels, suspended by custom bracketry in the concept-light fairing. The light fairing is attached to each roof panel and features a quick disconnect. A concept JPP Gladiator Sport Bar, made from lightweight carbon fiber and steel, enhances the space between the cabin and the bed with a design that features bed steps on both sides for easy access. The sport bar also features a mid-shelf with tie downs for portable storage totes. Each tote can be locked and secured via eight available tie-down loops. Four T-track rails on the upper portion of the sport bar enable easy installation of bike, kayak or other roof-mounted cargo systems. The bed on the Gladiator Sideburn concept is truly unique. Created to further enhance the strong and lightweight Jeep design language, the bed features integral Molle panels above and behind the wheel flares for additional storage. Integral RotoPaX containers are specially designed for liquid storage during off-road adventures. Within the bed is a modified Mopar bed-mounted spare tire carrier that holds a 37-inch wheel and tire. A custom tailgate carries the standard back-up camera, CHMSL and features three Molle-panel openings, along with a custom floating Jeep badge in the center opening. The open-air feel of the Sideburn Gladiator concept is further enhanced by the available JPP half doors while JPP side steps and JPP grab handles assist with entry into the elevated cabin. The open cabin features seats, armrest, shift boots, parking brake handle and half-door pull straps trimmed in a deep, dark, red-brown Vienesse Relicate Nappa leather with Soul-stopper thread. The thread accents continue onto the top pad of the instrument panel and steering wheel. Custom instrument panel bezels carry a 3D topographical map of Moab scenery finished in matte-black base and gloss dark-silver trails. Accents throughout the cabin are finished in Atomic Silver matte paint. Decorative, stainless-steel JPP pedal covers provide foot traction for feathering through the trails, and a concept JPP heavy-duty vinyl floor system (for JT Gladiator model) with integrated floor drains allows for quick interior hose-outs.

Jeep Easter Safari 2023 concepts: Wrangler Magneto 3.0, retro Cherokee and Wagoneer camper revealed

Jeep Easter Safari 2023 concepts: Wrangler Magneto 3.0, retro Cherokee and Wagoneer camper revealed

► Jeep’s 2023 Easter Safari cars ► One-offs include electric Wrangler… ► …and camping-spec Wagoneer

Jeep has unveiled its latest round of one-off Easter Safari show cars, and they’re as wild as ever.

Every year, design and engineer teams from Jeep and the wider Mopar business spend some of their off time creating concept cars to prove that there’s nothing as flexible as a Jeep.

The Easter Safari is an event in Moab, Utah. The 2023 event will be the 57 th , and Jeep calls it a home away from home. ‘Every year, more than 20,000 Jeep enthusiasts descend on Moab, Utah, for Easter Jeep Safari to drive in the most extreme off-road conditions, where our engineers continue to push the capability of our Jeep vehicles to next levels,’ says head of Jeep North America, Jim Morrison; ‘it’s with these Jeep enthusiasts that we’ll be able to push the limits even more and get their feedback on where they want to take the Jeep brand into the future.’

This year, Jeep unveiled seven concepts. We’ve picked the four best of the bunch.

Jeep Easter Safari 2023: the concept highlights

Wrangler Magneto 3.0

jeep wrangler safari 2023

For the third year on the bounce, Jeep has created a battery-electric Wrangler nicknamed Magneto. This year’s offering produces up to 650bhp and 900lb ft via a custom-built axial flux motor, and even includes a six-speed manual ‘gearbox’ and low-range mode. Huge Dynatrac axles and 40-inch tyres finish feature, as does a revision of the white and blue colour scheme the Magneto concepts have always had.

1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe concept

jeep wrangler safari 2023

A proper restomod, this. It’s the smashing together of a classic 1978 Cherokee body with the backbone of a Wrangler Rubicon 4xe plug-in hybrid. ‘Whenever we do one of these restomods where we take an old Jeep and update it, it’s by far one of the most popular things we do, says Jeep head of design Mark Allen; ‘this one is a sort of two-door version of the Wagoneer. It’s an original Cherokee we bought on Craigslist.’

As well as the properly 70s paint scheme, the Cherokee features the 4xe’s powertrain as well as 37-inch tyres with 17-inch wheels and a roll cage inside.

Grand Wagoneer Overland

jeep wrangler safari 2023

A properly plush go-anywhere camper for two? Jeep has it licked with the Grand Wagoneer Overland. A custom ‘Skyloft’ roof fixture from RedTail Overland is made from carbonfibre and unfolds in just 10 seconds with one single action.

There are just two seats in this concept, as the design team wanted to focus on adding as many creature comforts as possible. Beanbags, rear seat entertainment kits and lumberjack-style plaid upholstery completes the look.

Jeep Scrambler 392

jeep wrangler safari 2023

The Scrambler was Jeep’s first convertible back in 1981, and this lurid green concept is a bit of a nod to those hooligans of the past. The number is in relation the powertrain: the whopping 6.4-litre HEMI V8 used in the Wrangler Rubicon 392 ( which we’ve driven here ) that sounds like thunder and makes any Jeep shift like manure off a spade.

The bodywork has been extensively modified from its four-door Wrangler base, with a lower roofline and more steeply raked windscreen. And, of course, no doors, so you can see that fantastic tartan upholstery inside.

It's that time of year again. Jeep's annual Easter Safari kicks off the first week of April, and as in (most) years past, the 4x4 builder is on location with a collection of concept trucks that may or may not hint at future options, accessories — and maybe even entire vehicles. Looking at you, Magneto. This year's mix includes a return of that electric project truck (now in version 3.0), along with four other in-house designs from the Jeep team. Jeep Performance Parts tagged along as usual with two more builds of their own. We'll have more from the field once we get a chance to play around with Jeep's toys in Moab. Let's dive in. Yep, Magneto's back. This will be its third and final outing, Jeep says, and based on how little it has changed since last year, we're comfortable with Jeep calling this one finished. There's only a slight bump in power this year; it gets another 25 horses an 50 pound-feet of torque, for a total of 650 and 900, respectively. But it did sprout a new set of drive modes that give you finer control over the output of its electric motors. Its standard setting dials the total oomph back to just 285 hp and 273 lb.-ft. That's both the rated power output of Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and a subtle nod to the Magneto 1.0, which used those figures as its baseline. And yep, it still has a six-speed manual. MARK ALLEN: 2023-- this is the third and final iteration of our ongoing Magneto project where we created a fully battery electric, fully mission-capable Wrangler. For this year, we've added a lot more to the powertrain, but I'll walk you around the exterior first. Starting up front, we've got our Rubicon 20th grille on here. The hood-- carbon fiber hood-- carbon fiber fenders. Leaving it up on 40-inch tires which we introduced last year. Also when we extended the wheelbase.

But then this year we've raked the windshield back, effectively chopped the top, created a new roof for it with this great blue see through on it. Reupholstered the interior, updated the color scheme on the outside, and really gives it this aggressive cool off-road look to it.

Third and final iteration of Magneto-- functionally, it's still a fully battery electric vehicle connected to a six-speed manual transmission. New for '23, it has a more efficient axial flux motor. We have 20% more range, increased torque now. From 850 last year, we're up to 900-foot pound torque. Also, a 20% increase in usable energy from the battery.

We've also added selectable drive modes. The first being a regen-- so off or medium-- more for street driving. And then a separate aggressive regenerative mode in four-wheel drive low only, which offers one-pedal driving. Imagine going down a very, very steep hill and having to throttle to go down the hill without the brakes. And then a two-stage selectable power output. So baseline 285 horsepower, which matches the gas V6 this vehicle was originally equipped with, or the electric full beam's 900 foot-pounds torque.

2024 Easter Jeep Safari: Four New Concepts, Each with a Different Purpose and Palette

Posted: March 25, 2024 | Last updated: March 25, 2024

Spring means Easter, and for the Jeep faithful, that means the annual pilgrimage to Moab, Utah, for the Easter Jeep Safari. 2024 marks the 58th annual gathering, and, as has been the tradition for the past few years, Jeep has granted its talented crew of in-house designers the freedom to create a small batch of one-off concepts that express their artistic vision in fully realized concepts that might otherwise never make it past the drawing board. Plus, it's a great way to get some public input on stylistic themes, accessories, and functional add-ons that might already be in consideration for production. Here are the four concepts they cooked up for 2024.

We knew the creatives at Jeep couldn't keep their hands off the new Wagoneer for long, and the Vacationeer is here to prove us right. And no, that's not a typo; the "ee" is a not-so-subtle nod to the Wagoneer it's based on. As long as we're pointing out the obvious, it would be pointless to pay homage to the Wagoneers of yore without at least a touch of woodgrain, and the Vacationeer wears it in the thin-strip style of select Jeep models from the late 20th century, including the low-volume Wagoneer Brougham of the early 1980s.

The custom exterior paint, dubbed Spearminted, is similar to the hue of the paint on the Willys Dispatcher Concept also found on this list, but it ramps up the spent nuclear fuel rod effect to Simpsons levels of iridescence. Larger wheel openings and custom body-side flare extensions shroud 35-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires mounted to 18 x 9.0-inch 701 Method racing wheels. The tire and wheel package provide a 1.5-inch lift while front and rear skid plates help to deflect obstacles, and a front-mounted Warn winch and a trio of 11-inch TYRI LED lights provide peace of mind. Jeep's 510-hp twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six "Hurricane" engine provides the power to keep the vacation rolling.

Is it just me or are the EJS concepts becoming less creative and more like they just threw the Mopar catalogue at a 4xE Rubicon? Last year was a big disappointment, and this just looks like they're bringing out an updated Magneto and a 4xE Rubicon with 37s and tube doors.

Agree 100%, they're really pushing JPP

jeep wrangler safari 2023

I've lived in the foothills of the mountains just outside of Moab for 49 years and have not missed a Jeep Safari in that entire time. Yes, most of the concepts have gotten less conceptual in recent years. They lack imagination. Last year was the first time in many years that I did not even visit the Jeep display on Main Street...mainly because the "concepts" have morphed into accessorized vehicles that anyone can build with a few dollars and access to the Mopar catalog...and because it's just too dang crowded anymore.

jeep wrangler safari 2023

Easter Safari has turned into an annual parade of Mopar accessories that your Jeep dealer will be happy to sell to you, and then use as an excuse to refuse having to do any warranty work. I stopped paying attention to it a few years back.

  • Impressive lineup of Easter Jeep Safari concepts from Jeep® heading to Moab, Utah, April 1-9
  • Seven one-of-a-kind Jeep concept vehicles take four-wheeling to the next level and prove why there’s nothing quite like legendary Jeep 4x4 capability
