This was such an awesome unique experience. I’ve personally been around horses and ridden horses many times but to see them in the wild is definitely a new experience. My kids had a lot of fun on the hummer ride right on the beach. Loved our guide and his silly pirate jokes.

This was our first trip to to the Outer Banks and one of the few "experiences" we had planned. I was really looking forward to this and my husband was quite skeptical. By the end of the tour he was amazed and had a great time! We cannot say enough good things about our tour guide Stu. Very knowledgeable not only about the history of Corolla and the horses.

Really fun ride on the sandy beaches and lanes of this wild horse sanctuary. Stu rocks as a tour guide, being very knowledgeable and a great guy. We saw lots of horses and learned a lot. Highly recommend. It was early November so appreciated being layered.

This was our second time doing this tour with Richard and it was the highlight of our trip! He is such a great guide and we saw several groups of beautiful horses. This guided tour is two trips in one. Just getting to the “Penny Hill ” riding area is an adventure in itself! Four-wheel 5 miles up the coast, navigating deep ruts and soft sand to arrive at our company’s private 40 acres of land, with acres of trails and steep drop-ins on the second largest “living ” sand dune on the East coast.  

This land has been specifically groomed for ATV riding, and offers fun for beginners and avid ATV owners alike!  

Wild horses are often seen on the trip out to the riding area or on our beautiful land! After being briefed on ATV safety and driving techniques, you and your guide will snake through our 40 acres of trails and climb to the top of “Penny’s Hill” – the view alone is breathtaking.  

Bring your camera, or rent one of our Go-Pros to capture this unique experience.   You will ride the ATVS for an hour of this 2 hr trip, which in our experience is more than enough. The other hour is almost like a short horse safari just to reach the “penny hill” riding area.   Drivers must be at least 21 yrs old and children must be at least 10 yrs to ride.

Our fleet of vehicles consist of 2016 Yamaha Wolverines , Polaris RZRS, and Kawasaki TERX, all of which are two-seaters utv-style machines.

Corolla Jeep Adventures and Wild Horse Tours

Corolla Jeep Adventures is the oldest tour company in Corolla, offering guided excursions of the off-road area, including their own private 400-acre hunt club. Guided tours are two hours long and are conducted in open-air safari trucks. You can also rent a soft-top Jeep and drive yourself following your guide. These tours last two hours, and the guide will take you on a course where wild horses are usually spotted. You’ll see beautiful, remote beaches and wildlife. New this year are ATV tours as well. Corolla Jeep Adventures is open year round, and they say they can pretty much find horses for you every day! They also offer 4x4 kayak combination tours, and their tours access acres of private trails where you’ll see historic sites and learn of local ecology including the second-largest living dune on the property. What great views!

The company also offers a variety of fishing charters, held in either the sound or the ocean for a half or full day. Depending on which trip you choose, you can catch mackerel, marlin, tuna and dolphin. The boats carry up to six passengers, and if you don’t have a group of six ready to go, they can accommodate you with a make-up charter. All fishing tackle is included, so all you need to bring is lunch.

The Town of Kitty Hawk is known the world over for its association with the Wright brothers and flight. Where the Wright brothers flew their airplane is located in the town of Kill Devil Hills to day, but they did arrive and depart the Outer Banks at Kitty Hawk, and they found accommodations in the rural soundside community for some of their visits in the early 1900s.  More than a century later, Kitty Hawk has shifted its focus from the soundside to the ocean. The beach draws thousands upon thousands of vacationers every year to Kitty Hawk, where a variety of accommodations await. Kitty Hawk is known for its old-school beachfront cottages along with mom-and-pop motels and one of the nicest resort hotels on the beach.  Kitty Hawk is small, but it offers plenty for a nice vacation, including shops, superstores, restaurants and a golf course.

Corolla Adventures is a family owned and operated business. The Meredith family has been providing vacationers with entertainment for nearly two decades. My late father opened The Waterworks, a watersports rental store in Nags Head during the 1980’s.

My brother and I grew up working alongside our dad, taking on greater challenges as the business rapidly grew. At the height of jet ski popularity we operated 5 locations, stretching from Ocracoke to Corolla. It was during those early years, working while on break from school, that I began to appreciate the impact our activities had on the quality of a family’s vacation.

We offered Jeep rentals as a safe way to tour the northern beaches, while at the same time pioneering the use of GPS technology for wild horse safaris. Customers became their own guides, able to spend quality time with their families while taking charge of their adventures. Using the GPS to concentrate their efforts on finding the ponies and other points of interest left more time for other family activities- like searching for the perfect shell to take home as a souvenier, or maybe just finding a quiet spot to enjoy a picnic they may have packed. We’re still at it and hope to make vacations special for families for many years to come!

See the wild horses of the outer banks and whip through beach, dune, and forest trails with hummer adventure tours..

With the continued development of off-road trails, the horses were becoming harder to find in their natural habitat. When they were found, regulations prevented our tours from stopping and disembarking on public land and “roads” to take pictures.

Although by law we never get closer than 50 feet, we found that most customers do prefer to get out of the vehicle at points along the tour so they can be stationary while taking pictures.

To improve things, we purchased land in 2014. We can now venture into three distinct, previously inaccessible ecosystems that are teeming with wildlife of all types.

The new land provides an exciting ride through a maritime forest and high sand dune trails, with a view of protected marshlands. These areas are inaccessible by most off-road vehicles due to the soft, sugary sands and high inclines.

Only true off-road vehicles can make it without getting stuck, and in this area the Hummer really comes into its own.

NO PAVEMENT, NO PROBLEMS.

Our 13-passenger, open-air Hummer starts life as a Hummer H1. We then upgrade many of the mechanical components to the military spec equivalents, recondition the engine and drive-train, and extend the frame and body by 2 feet.

Our Hummer H1 vehicles have been customized with your safety in mind. All designs have been over-engineered to build the safest and most comfortable ride possible.

Seats have seatbelts and restraint systems for child seats. All seats are actual car seats — no boat-style bench seats or plastic bucket seats are used in our vehicles.

An additional upper windshield with a top made with a combination of fine mesh and clear plastic enables occupants a 360-degree view while also providing protection from UV rays and unexpected inclement weather.

After customization, the Hummer is capable of seating 13 passengers with more leg room than any standard SUV. Individual seats that are 21 inches wide (no bench seats), in a stadium seating configuration, offer ultimate comfort and visibility for all.

We had an amazing tour today with “Just Tom”. He knows a lot about the history of the area, shared interesting facts, knew a lot about the horses, treated the horses with respect (very careful around them), and was a lot of fun to spend 2 hours with. The hummers were a great way to do it too. Obviously important too was that we were able to see about 30-50 horses of the 100 or so there (not guaranteed of course). We were able to get some great photos and learn a ton. Our 2 and 4 year old girls really enjoyed it too. We are considering going again this week. Thanks!

Probably my favorite adventure of our vacation! Mike was an excellent tour guide! I loved the stories he told us about the horses and the history of the area! Our tour was at 5:30 in the evening and was a great time to go! We saw so many horses!!! Even one of the new foals! So exciting! We didn’t want it to end!!!

Learning about the ponies, seeing them, and the experience of the ride across the sands and into their (and our) habitat. Most of all, the good stewardship that our guide expressed towards the land, the ponies, and the importance of conservation and care.

On  Saturdays  during the  summer , finding the fastest directions to the Outer Banks from the north can be challenging. The reason is the majority of our visitors stay in weekly rental homes and choose to begin (and end) their vacations on Saturdays. That means a lot of visitors, and workers, coming and going to the Outer Banks Saturdays between 9am and 6pm. Check out a map of the Outer Banks before visiting. Here are some suggestions to avoid the traffic and get to the Outer Banks faster!

Particularly for visitors staying in OBX towns & villages south of Southern Shores (i.e. Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco and Hatteras Village), an alternate route can save several hours. Even if the route means more miles, you’ll be moving at a good speed instead of stuck in traffic.

      You will drive an off-road SUV yourself! And it will not be simple impassability, which can be found if you go to the field. These are special tracks that are laid in the forest so that you were able to test the car for durability! On our jeep tours we do not spare cars, yes, they break down and so and it should be! We are committed to finding a truly dirty off-road, and making it even dirtier specially so that in a short period of time you can enjoy jeep to the fullest!

      If you want to stay clean, you better not come to us, leave your white shirts in the office!

   Deep ruts, terrifying fords and ravines, steep descents and seemingly incredible climbs, wetlands that can not be passed if you are not one team.

    You yourself manage a jeep – you are laying a route, choosing detour routes, overcoming obstacles and getting stuck! The help of an instructor who acts as a navigator will never be superfluous.

MASTER CLASS (2-2,5 hours)

    We offer you to independently train driving off-road vehicles to learn the basics of off-road driving. In difficult areas behind the wheel will be our instructor, who will show a real master class on conquering off-road. Duration of the master class 2-3 hours

    Real all-terrain vehicles that pass swamps and swamps, steep ascents and descents, deep ruts and rivers. These are cars that can do anything! Why is that? Because UAZ was originally created as an off-road car, but this is not enough for us, we have finalized and improved the designs of standard cars that leave the factory, increasing ground clearance, wheel diameter, and the exhaust system. We installed tractor tires, winches and snorkels on our cars in order to be able to drive almost anywhere.

SHORT JEEP TOUR (3-3,5 hours)

    The terrain is hilly, abundant in small and large streams, and accordingly there are also wetlands. On the route, we will overcome the ford river and climb the hill with a slope of almost 40 degrees! Our instructors will be happy to teach you how to drive an SUV on a real off-road terrain, you will also learn what hi-jack, a winch and other subtleties that are vital to overcome obstacles are!

    It’s dirty on the track, and it’s VERY dirty, so we will always give protective clothing to all participants in jeep tours! Military shoe covers (OZK) and gloves.

CLASSIC JEEP TOUR FOR THE WHOLE DAY

    The route passes not far from the city of Bronnitsy, in the same place as a short jeep tour, capturing all the obstacles, but not ending there, but going deeper into the forest, where the presence of a person is no longer felt. In the thicket of the forest, the track winds, specially “visiting” ravines and slopes. The river Nishchenka flows through the area, which has an extensive network of streams and streams, which fill all gullies in the spring and remain there until the fall, and again become full-flowing in the fall due to rains. EXTREME JEEP TOUR FOR THE WHOLE DAY

   Our extreme jeep tour takes place along two routes – the first is located near the village of Panino, Ramensky district, where 2 times a year one of the toughest and most extreme trophy competitions of the Moscow Region is held. The second is located near Yakhroma and is especially difficult in the rain, since the Dmitrovsky district is known for its hills and slides, and the track runs close to the ski slopes and, of course, the car can slide sideways onto trees and bushes.

   This adventure is for those who are not afraid to get their feet wet, who are ready for severe trials, because everything is possible on this route! Be prepared for breakdowns in the forest, for the fact that you get stuck and you have to use additional equipment to get out of the mud trap. Take along a spare set of clothes, because under your feet there can be a real swamp. The duration of this jeep tour ranges from 7 to 10 hours, because the route is difficult to predict.
