All of our reviews are based on exhaustive research, industry experience and whenever possible, hands-on testing. When you make a purchase using one of our chosen links we’ll receive a small percentage of the proceeds. This supports the site and keeps Jeffsetter running. You can read more here .

There are a wide variety of RV manufacturers on the market today, but have you read any Jayco RV reviews recently? What are some of the pros and cons of this particular RV manufacturer, and what sets them apart from all the others?

You may also be wondering why a particular RV company might be gathering negative or positive reviews, and Jayco is a good representation of the discourse that comes with RV brands.

In this article, we’ll address all the things you need to know about Jayco and how they produce their RVs. We’ll also go over all of the different travel trailers and motorhomes produced by Jayco so you can get an idea of their products and product quality. Let’s get started and talk all about Jayco and Jayco RV reviews now!

Jayco RV Company Overview

The Jayco brand name is renowned throughout the United States, given it was founded by a single owner in 1968. Lloyd Bontrager created one of the first-ever pop-up travel trailer systems on his home farm, using an innovative array of products and manufacturing techniques. From there, the rest is history!

Nowadays, Jayco is well-known for its fantastic owner warranty program, their dedication to new ideas and RV innovation, as well as their high-quality building materials and standards. Plus, Jayco has received countless awards for their RVs over the decades, and they’ve racked up nearly 100 of them for a variety of different RVs and innovations.

While Lloyd Bontrager died in a tragic plane accident in 1985, this didn’t stop Jayco from continuing onward. The company swiftly grew and developed beyond a simple pop-up and a travel trailer model that would eventually become the top-selling travel trailer in North America for 15 consecutive years!

Jayco prides itself on its quality construction and ability to make both their workers and customers feel like extended family. The company itself extends beyond Jayco’s product line, as the company has purchased many other RV brands in the previous decades. Some of the brands that fall under the Jayco company umbrella include:

  • Starcraft RV
  • Highland Ridge RV
  • Entegra Coach

Located in the heart of RV country in Indiana, Jayco continues to produce stunning and family-friendly RVs, year after year. They consistently incorporate real wooden cabinetry throughout their rigs, as well as four-season capabilities and reinforced roofs.

What Do Customers Have To Say About Jayco?

At the end of the day, a product is only as good as the reviews it gets, so what do customers have to say about Jayco RVs? While there are a great deal of reviews and comments surrounding Jayco, there are a few different things we’ll focus on today. Let’s begin with an overview of what customers have to say!

Positive Reviews

Considering the fact Jayco has been a reliable RV brand for decades, it has garnered a number of positive reviews from its customers over the years. In fact, Jayco has a large customer base that continues to buy their travel trailers and motorhomes year after year, upgrading and purchasing new Jayco RVs when the time is right.

High-Quality Build

The build quality of Jayco RVs has always been admired by a variety of customers and consumers. Many reviews mention Jayco RVs feeling solid in their construction as well as reliable depending on the season and how old the RV is. However, the majority of positive reviews regarding Jayco construction were posted pre-pandemic and refer to a variety of older Jayco models.

Homely Interior

One of the most positive things people have to say about Jayco RVs is that the interior living area feels homely and welcoming. It’s easy to enjoy the inside of your Jayco RV while camping, as the layouts are ideal for a variety of families and groups of people. Depending on the size of the RV you purchase, you can expect everyone to be comfortable and content.

In fact, as a full-time RVer, I see a great number of other full-timers living in their Jayco RVs. Many of these full-timers enjoy the luxurious interior features as well as the well-thought-out living areas in a number of floor plans. This means you should have little to no issues enjoying your RV, whether you plan on living in it full-time or not!

Great Warranty Program

A final positive that often gets mentioned by Jayco RV owners is Jayco’s fantastic warranty program. They offer one of the most comprehensive and complete warranties in the RV business, covering a variety of structural and cosmetic issues.

Negative Reviews

Even the most positive of reviews has its downside. Let’s take some time and discuss the most common negative reviews associated with Jayco RVs.

Issues Redeeming Warranty

No matter the year in which customers purchased their Jayco RV, one negative review pops up year after year. The most negative comments surrounding Jayco RVs have to do with redeeming or utilizing the warranty. Many customers mention it takes a great deal of time and effort to have their warranty recognized and to initiate repairs . But why might this be?

The trouble with utilizing and redeeming any type of RV warranty is that you often have to do this in a facility that recognizes the warranty in the first place. These facilities are limited, including ones offered by Jayco, and you may find the amount of time it takes for you to get an appointment and get your RV fixed is longer than you may have anticipated or wanted.

Customers who have taken the time to get an appointment for their warranted items complain about waiting months with their RV in the shop. This is an unfortunate fact of RV ownership, especially if you purchase a brand-new RV with a warranty. While it’s fantastic to have things covered by the RV manufacturer, it doesn’t mean these things don’t take time.

Questionable Reliability

Another negative review surrounds the reliability of Jayco RVs and the build quality. Jayco recommends anticipating an average of 3 to 5 repairs during the first few years of RV ownership, which is why they offer such a comprehensive warranty program. However, many customers mention they still experience issues with their RV once their warranty has expired or lapsed.

Having an RV that requires repairs is like saying water is wet. However, this is no excuse for a shoddy product or cutting corners- which is something that some Jayco customers report. Jayco has a lot to offer in terms of its budget-friendly RVs, but purchasing something less expensive may result in a less durable product overall.

Considerations

One of the primary things all new RV owners should consider is the way the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the RV industry. Not only has the RV business taken off in recent years due to an inability to travel, but demand has skyrocketed beyond what any RV manufacturer could ever anticipate. But what does this mean for you as a consumer?

It means many RV manufacturers are doing everything they can to move RVs out of the door and to your home so they can continue to meet demand. However, this can mean things fall through the cracks and mistakes get made. The amount of product needed to satisfy consumers is something the RV industry simply wasn’t ready for and this includes Jayco-branded RVs.

This isn’t enough of an excuse to justify mistakes or loose ends. However, Jayco consistently makes a product that fits a variety of budgets and lifestyles, and they may be manufactured quickly and inexpensively to meet these demands. When you think of the different price points of RVs, you may be surprised at the quality of the RVs found at the lower or more budget-friendly end of the list!

All of this said, let’s take a look at some of Jayco’s reviews in more depth.

Jayco 5 Factor Review

If you want to know about all of Jayco’s reviews in more detail, you’re in the right place. We’ve compiled a five-factor review of everything you need to know surrounding Jayco RVs.

These topics include the build quality of Jayco’s RVs, the customer service and warranty options, the layout and design elements, the budget-friendliness and price points of the RVs, and finally the boondocking and off-grid capabilities of these rigs.

Let’s get started and go over all of these reviews in more detail!

Jayco RV Reviews: Build Quality

While their good name may have declined in recent years, Jayco has a lot to offer in terms of its build quality and construction. They do many things differently from other RV manufacturers including custom metal frames for each individual make and model.

One of the reasons Jayco has typically high marks for its build quality is likely due to the fact they offer a reinforced roof as well as vacuum-bonded and sealed walls. These have proven to withstand the test of time and a variety of road conditions. When it comes to purchasing a motorhome , specifically a Class C RV, Jayco offers a laminated and single, seamless piece for their front caps or section above the cab area.

Jayco also offers different handling packages along with ride assistance technology, trademarked as JRide. Depending on the type of RV you purchase, it will have many additional safety features, including durable shocks, state-of-the-art electronic brakes, and pin connections, as well as rubberized suspension and a balanced drive shaft.

However, as many negative reviews mention, the build quality of Jayco RVs seems to have gone down in recent years. Many of these reviews surround the more budget-friendly or affordable RVs rather than campers built for a more luxurious price point.

Jayco RV Reviews: Customer Service And Warranties

One of the main issues plaguing Jayco RVs in terms of reviews is their customer service and warranty options. Jayco offers an extremely comprehensive and valuable warranty program, with a 2-year limited warranty, a 3-year structural warranty, and an additional 15 other warranties depending on what products you opt for inside the RV.

These warranty programs last far longer than the average RV, and Jayco prides itself as a family brand, both in ownership and in the way it respects its customer base. The customer service is as good as any large company, but many customers complain their warranties aren’t honored in a reasonable amount of time.

You may speak to a perfectly pleasant Jayco representative on the phone, but when it comes time to bring in your RV for any warranty-based repairs, the process seems to be long and arduous. Many reviews mention the fact there aren’t very many shops they can bring their RVs into, and the shops that do take Jayco RVs are booked and busy.

However, having a warranty option that’s nearly double what any other RV company is currently offering is important to mention, and Jayco includes a comprehensive maintenance and repair guide with every travel trailer or RV owner’s manual. They also offer a fantastic owners’ club and forum should you have any basic questions or concerns with your new rig. Just keep in mind that if you need any extensive warranty repairs, it may take some time for that to happen!

Jayco RV Reviews: Layouts And Design Elements

One of the most positive aspects of Jayco RV reviews surrounds their layouts and design element choices. Jayco is consistently thoughtful in their interior design and storage solutions, as well as their ability to make you feel at home while on the road. But why does Jayco rate so highly in terms of its design choices and layout options? Let’s take a closer look.

One of the main positives of a Jayco RV interior is that every square inch has a purpose. Given how long Jayco has been in the RV business, they have a clear understanding of what matters to RVers, of any experience and price point. They offer a wide variety of unique layout solutions so more people can sleep, relax, and enjoy their camping experience indoors as well as outdoors.

Depending on the size of the RV you purchase, Jayco offers a variety of simplistic solutions along with luxurious features. Some larger RVs feature walk-around powerlift king beds, theater seating, as well as residential-sized refrigerators and washer and dryer hookups. However, Jayco really shines when it comes to their smaller rigs, as every bit of it is used in a thoughtful and useful way, something only the very experienced RV manufacturer understands.

This isn’t to say that Jayco only builds one specific RV for one specific type of family. They have a wide variety of layouts and floor plans for an even wider variety of people and customers, which means you should have little to no trouble finding something you truly enjoy on the inside. It’s harder than you think to choose an RV layout that works well for you, but Jayco makes this process a dream!

Jayco RV Reviews: Price Point And Budget Friendliness

In the grand scheme of RV brands and the cost of some of these rigs, Jayco seems to offer an RV to fit every budget. However, they are a more expensive brand compared to Coachmen and Forest River. Depending on what you are looking for, you may or may not find what you are looking for in Jayco, and this often comes down to the amount of RVs they have available.

Just like Jayco advertises they want to make an RV for every family, the same could be said for their desire to manufacture RVs to fit every price point. For example, one of their most popular travel trailers starts at $20,000, which is incredibly reasonable for a brand-new towable rig.

On the other end of the spectrum, some of their fifth wheels start at over $120,000, and their luxury motorhomes and Class Cs start at over $200,000 .  This may sound expensive, but even this price point isn’t out of the ordinary or unexpected when you look at the wide variety of RVs for sale. Given the fact they seem to price their luxury rigs accordingly, you should be getting enough bang for your buck.

However, the cost of the less expensive rigs Jayco offers may leave something to be desired.  Many negative reviews mention the average Jayco RV tends to fall apart sooner than expected, despite warranty repairs and expert evaluations. However, most of these negative reviews are in conjunction with an RV at a budget-friendly or low price point.

Jayco RV Reviews: Boondocking and Off-Grid Capabilities

One of the things many new RVers are looking for is the ability to go off-grid or otherwise boondock . Boondocking, also known as dry camping, is the ability to camp without hookups or other utility resources such as electricity and water. Having large holding tanks, solar panels, and a generator are some of the things in high demand right now, but does Jayco deliver?

Jayco offers a variety of off-grid perks and features, but rarely do these features come as standard or included in the initial purchase price. Additionally, there are many different travel trailers and motorhomes that don’t have the option of adding solar capabilities or other boondocking luxuries.  Jayco has a few specific RV models that offer boondocking capabilities as well as solar panels and solar prep as a primary feature.

It feels as if Jayco has taken the time to build RVs specifically with boondocking in mind, though many other RV manufacturers offer a more casual approach to off-grid camping. This typically means that solar is available on just about any make and model of RV, rather than Jayco’s approach of keeping it exclusive and only available on certain models.

The reviews mentioning off-grid camping and boondocking confirm Jayco goes above and beyond with these features. From ensuring your RV has adequate solar as well as large enough tanks to accomplish a weekend in the woods, Jayco has you covered. They just don’t choose to cover every single make and model that they manufacture.

5 Top Rated Jayco RVs

Now that we’ve gone over all of the reviews surrounding Jayco RVs and Jayco manufacturing, what are some of the top-rated RVs offered by Jayco? Here are five of their top-selling rigs across a variety of types, including travel trailers, fifth wheels, and all three types of motorhomes! Let’s take a closer look now.

Jayco Travel Trailer: Jay Flight

  • Diverse floorplans
  • Range of lengths
  • Not great for large travel groups
  • Not suitable for extensive off-grid living

Originally manufactured in 2001, the Jay Flight is consistently sold year after year and is considered the most popular travel trailer purchased over the last 15 consecutive years. It’s easy to see why this particular travel trailer is a star and extremely popular among a wide variety of RV consumers.

Built on a sturdy and lightweight frame, the Jay Flight is available in a number of lengths, ranging from 28 ft to 40ft. There are also numerous floorplans to choose from which is the choice I need as a full-timer! The layout of a rig can make or break a vacation, so having an array of options allows more people to find the one best suited to them.

The floorplans of the Jayco Jay Flight are appealing to pretty much every RVer. Between the standard features and optional extras, I can build a travel trailer that’s perfect for me and my partner, and our furry companion too! An example of this impressive ingenuity is the double bunk bed set up available with certain floorplans while others are equipped with a cozy electric fireplace in the living area.

This Jayco travel trailer is a fantastic option for couples or small families adventuring in the wilderness, but with only 200W of solar available, I’d find it hard to stay powdered up, especially in winter with low sun! Aside from this, the Jay Flight is a popular, quality, and affordable trailer, with prices starting at $32k. It has everything needed for a successful trip on the open road, including residential appliances, and even wardrobe and washer-dryer prep options!

Jayco Fifth Wheel: North Point

  • Unique layout
  • Sleeps up to 11 people
  • Might be too long for beginners
  • Less affordable than smaller trailers

I live full-time in my RV, and I know a lot of other RVers who do the same! Since starting my RV journey, I’ve noticed an abundance of Jayco North Point fifth wheels on the road. This trailer is a go-to for many full-timers and is priced significantly lower than many other luxury fifth-wheel trailers. With 7 floorplans to choose from, starting at $107k, these trailers appeal to many RVers.

When the whole family wants to take an RV vacation, it can be stressful trying to accommodate space for everyone! The Jayco North Point takes this hassle away, with a top-length model measuring 44 feet long.  In fact, North Point sleeps an average of 6 people , but up to 11 individuals can sleep cozy in the 377RLBH floorplan. I love the uniqueness of this rig, and the creative lofted area is a key feature in my eyes!

Most North Point trailers have an extremely interesting lofted area Jayco utilizes in a variety of ways. The master suite can be set atop the lofted platform, as well as an additional living room with reclining sofas. Jayco is a brand truly able to utilize just about every inch of space on board their rigs. Fifth-wheels are in no way small rigs, and since the North Point measures longer than 40 ft, it might not be the best option for beginner RVers.

With some practice, towing the North Point will become a dream, and with such a homely interior and functional space, everyone can join in on the fun too. These trailers have a bit of a hefty cost, but with so much packed into this Jayco trailer, it’s a worthwhile investment!

Jayco Class A RV: Precept

  • Modern exterior
  • Shorter length means it’s easier to drive
  • Not the most luxury option
  • Lacks boondocking features

Jayco recommends the Precept to anyone purchasing a Class A rig for the first time. It’s a smaller size Class A RV, ranging from 33ft – 38ft, making it less intimidating for newbies or those upgrading from smaller campers or travel trailers. Impressively, the Precpt sleeps up to 9 people, and with 5 floorplans, all equipped with walkaround beds, Jayco have ensured everyone gets a quality night’s sleep.

This is a gas-powered Class A, which may be considered a downside for those who prefer diesel-powered engines . Given the length and size of this Class A RV, however, its gas-powered engine should be more than capable of handling plenty of miles on the road. Along with having an attractive exterior aesthetic, the interior of the Precept is simple and clean, but not not hit the mark for travelers desiring luxury finishes across the board.

For a more luxurious option, I’d lean towards the Precept Prestige as it’s a step up from the standard Prestige and has a bit more to offer in terms of elegance. However, there’s a significant jump in price from the standard to the luxury version which is something to keep in mind.

Jayco Class C RV: Melbourne

  • Mercedes Benz chassis
  • Powerful diesel engine
  • Boondocking capability
  • Too compact for large families
  • High price-point
  • Solar panels are extra

One of the best-selling features of the Jayco Melbourne is its easy-to-drive nature! As a compact Class C RV with an abundance of features, including boondocking and off-grid capabilities, it’s an ideal rig for those not needing the mammoth space of a Class A RV. Plus, it has a classy and unique interior design that’s ready for personal touches and plenty of use from avid adventures.

There are only 3 floorplans to choose from which doesn’t provide the biggest range of options, but this 25ft-frame camper has a lot to offer. Each floorplan is as unique as the next, making this rig a great match for couples and small families looking to hit the road without all the hassle that typically comes along with RV camping. The Melbourne isn’t the cheapest diesel Class C RV on the market, but it’s priced fairly for all the features it offers.

As this Jayco RV comes prepped for solar panels, transforming it into a boondocking wagon is straightforward. It’s also easy to drive, capable of handling a variety of terrain, and looks good while doing it too! I’d also opt for the additional house battery to ensure power is less of a stress when winter comes and and power from solar starts to become less reliable.

Overall, the Melbourne is a compact rig with great boondocking capability, but it may not be suitable for larger travel groups or those who prefer a more spacious interior. This is a beginner-friendly RV that’s effortless to drive and can support plenty of miles of travel with its Mercedes Benz chassis and V6 turbo diesel engine.

Jayco Class B RV: Swift

  • Suitable for off-grid adventures
  • Easy to drive
  • Limites sleeping options
  • Wet bath option only
  • Not as luxurious as other Class B RVs

The Swift from Jayco is a Class B camper van bursting with impressive features at a relatively affordable price for a Class B RV! With prices starting at $163k, I expect this rig to offer a lot, and it doesn’t disappoint. I love nothing more than parking up in nature and enjoying reconnecting with the environment. This is possible thanks to the boondocking abilities of the Swift.

Solar panels come standard, and the on-demand hot water heater, multiple house batteries, built-in gas generator, and creative storage solutions make this an off-grid gem. So much is packed into the standard model of the Swift, it’s hard to believe there’s more on offer, but there is! Since I’m a full-timer, I’d opt for the lithium battery for even more reliable power, and even explore the all-electric option offered by Jayco.

Big families won’t be able to take advantage of the Swift as the biggest floorplan only has the capability to sleep 4 people. There are only 3 layouts to choose from, with the biggest differences being the positioning of the bathroom and the bedroom location. Each floorplan has benefits and drawbacks, but the overall appeal will be personal to individual RVers.

What Kinds Of RVs Does Jayco Offer?

Given how large the Jayco brand is, they have the ability to offer a wide variety of RVs across all different types and sizes. Jayco offers travel trailers, toy haulers, fifth wheels, motorhomes, and the original style of pop-up camper they became well-known for. Let’s take a look at some of their makes and models in more detail now.

  • Melbourne Prestige
  • Granite Ridge
  • Greyhawk XL
  • Seneca XT
  • Seneca
  • Seneca Prestige

If you look hard enough, you can find versions of Jayco’s classic pop-up camper, but they don’t currently manufacture any new models.  As you can see, Jayco offers a solid list of RVs to appeal to a wide variety of consumers and RV customers, depending on the size of the family and other needs. While Jayco doesn’t offer nearly as many RVs as Forest River, they still have plenty to offer and quality options at that!

Has Jayco Quality Gone Down?

I wish I could say all RVs are created perfect and you won’t ever encounter problems, but sadly this isn’t true. There are many RVers who have purchased Jayco RVs over the last few years, only to find the finish is below standard, and repairs need to happen after only a few weeks or months of mild to moderate use.

The quality of some Jayco rigs may be questionable for a number of reasons, not least the backlog the company are inevitably catching up with from the pandemic. There’s no excuse, however, for not taking pride in every stage of an RV build, after all, it could potentially be someone’s future home on wheels! There is a lack of quality control in the RV industry, and unfortunately, this means rigs slip through that haven’t been finished in the highest quality possible.

Some Jayco RVs are rated better than others, so do some research and make an educated choice if Jayco is the manufacturer for you! Regardless of the rig you choose, be sure to perform regular maintenance to keep it in the best position for longer.

Final Thoughts

Choosing a new RV takes a lot of time and consideration, which is why our handy guide for Jayco RV reviews is here to help!

After considering everything there is to know about Jayco and their line of products, hopefully, you’re feeling confident about what they have to offer, along with their honest and insightful customer reviews! There are always more brands to choose from, but perhaps Jayco offers the right amount of quality products for the right price.

Which Jayco Travel Trailer Should I Buy?

Which Jayco Travel Trailer Should I Buy?

  • BUYERS GUIDE

If you are a frequent camper or have seen travel RVs cruising the roads, you probably saw a Jayco travel trailer. Easily spotted through its Bluebird symbol, Jayco travel trailers are well-known for their affordability , high quality, and wide range of layouts .

Generally, Jayco has a stellar reputation for being the most popular and top-selling RV brand. It has a wide range of awards under its belt, including the 77 Dealer Satisfaction Index Award .

The brand also has a 2016 Bronze award from the Trailer’s life Reader’s Choice Awards, showing Jayco’s commitment to providing top-quality customer service and world-class craftsmanship.

About The Brand

In 1968, the Jayco Company began as a family business in Northern Indiana. Bertha and Lloyd Bontrager established the company by introducing a prototype foldable camping trailer with a distinct lifter system.

The couple successfully marketed this folding camping trailer, and since then, the brand became synonymous with affordability, connectivity, and technology.

In 2011, the Jayco Company rose to become the largest family-established RV manufacturer in the world. Consequently, Thor Industries bought the majority of the shares of Jayco in 2016.

However, the company is still managed by the original family, with Derald Bontrager, son of Bertha, and Lloyd Bontrager, as the present-day CEO. As a matter of fact, Derald Bontrager got the 2017 Distinguished Service to the RV industry award.

What makes Jayco’s travel trailers different from the others?

It is quite easy to distinguish Jayco travel RVs from other brand’s travel trailers. Due to their unique manufacturing and processing techniques, these travel trailers have several unique features, including:

Patented roofing systems

Jayco’s patented Magnuss Truss roofing system can withstand a maximum of 4500 pounds, which is 50% extra than the roofs of other travel trailers.

The roof strength is a result of using screws and oversized nail plates combined fasteners to hold the decking in place.

Additionally, the trailer’s roofing also consists of 2X2 wooden vertical studs to increase their durability and make extra wiring room.

Jayco climate shield

Whether it is extremely cold or insanely hot, you can be assured that Jayco travel trailers will take you where you want to go comfortably.

Thanks to its Climate Shield feature, the trailer has four-season camper protection that ascertains protection against extreme weather conditions. Additionally, this feature comes with dark tinted windows, a heated and fully enclosed underbelly, PEX plumbing, and double-sided flex-foil insulation.

According to the Company’s testing, Jayco’s Climate Shield feature maintains 71 degrees as the interior temperature while the exterior is 100 degrees. Likewise, when it was zero degrees outside, the interior temperatures remain at 68 degrees, and plumbing systems remain unaffected.

Strong foundations

All Jayco products come with a fully tailored frame, which is either a Norco NextGen customized Frame or an I-class type I-beam structural frame. Often used in ultra-light models, the Norco NextGen frame consists of a low-alloy, high strength, and anti-rust material.

On the other hand, the I-class structural I-beam frame is a durable singular molded frame that does not have any seams, which tend to warp and bend over time. As a result, your travel trailer will not age prematurely with such customized frame construction due to reduced vibrational sagging or damage.

Industry-leading warranty

Available in full length on their website and print, Jayco’s warranty provision is one of the best in the RV business. As a result, customers have a choice to go through it in its entirety, allowing them to understand what precisely the company pledges to repair, restore, and protect.

Jayco’s warranty includes a two-year limited warranty covering your travel trailers for 24,000 miles or 24 months.

The newer 2020 models also come with a three-year structural warranty, covering areas like walls, roofs, and floors. Additionally, there are 15 additional warranties from other Jayco suppliers.

Some of them include its Samsung refrigerator, whose warranty covers it for five years, its Congoleum designer flooring for three years, and Good Endurance tires covered for six years.

Sustainable

Compared to other RV manufacturers, Jayco has an Eco advantage due to its high-quality and durable roofing and foundation, as well as a reliable warranty.

The company has an unwavering dedication to manufacture products that protect and preserve the environment for years to come.

As a result, its travel trailers feature a reduced carbon print by using smarter and more reliable manufacturing processes. These processes include working with manufacturers who prioritize eliminating waste, packaging, and energy usage.

Take note that the company builds ultra-light products for improved on-road fuel economy and uses recycled water in its testing. It also has an aggressive educational campaign on employing eco-friendly driving and travel practices, saving on gas, and employing conservation methods.

Let us look at some of the best Jayco travel trailers you should consider buying.

Jayco is a famous brand of RVs that is easily distinguished by its bluebird logo. Accordingly, Jayco travel trailers boast high-quality units with a wide variety of layouts.

This article reviews Jayco travel trailers with an emphasis on various models, specs, and distinguishing features. So, with that said, let's dive staight in and find out...

Who is Jayco?

Jayco vs Keystone

Jayco slightly has the edge over the Keystone in terms of the floor plan. Both are owned by Thor Industries, meaning they are quite similar over the same price range. However, Jayco has a better floor plan for any price range. Accordingly, Jayco's quality is slightly superior to the Keystone. For instance, Jayco has a better interior ceiling height of the two brands. However, the only way to compare these brands is by narrowing them down to specific models over the same price range.

Jayco vs Forest River Quality

Forest River emphasizes speed of build while Jayco is more on the build quality. Accordingly, Jayco often stands out because the company offers a 1-year warranty for road assistance. Forest River RVs also tend to have sinking floors. However, this can be offset by the fact that some Jayco models have leaking floors.

Another aspect of comparison would be the fact that Jayco has many dealers compared to Forest River. This means you can more easily find a Jayco travel trailer than Forest River.

Jayco vs Grand Design

This section compares Jayco Eagle against Grand Design Reflection. Jayco has various features that are lacking in the Grand Design.

For instance, Jayco has solar preps on sidewalls and roof, Helix cooling system, frameless windows, and exterior locking systems that are not in the Grand Design.

Jayco vs Coachman

The fit and Finish on both Jayco and Coachman are excellent. However, the Coachman is slightly superior in these aspects. Accordingly, Jayco lacks options that can be compared directly to the Coachman. Both travel trailers have similar price ranges and layout.

Jayco White Hawk Review

Published on January 27th, 2021 by Ray & Tammy Roman This post was updated on November 14th, 2021

The Jayco White Hawk combines many luxurious features and amenities in a lightweight travel trailer. With nine available floor plans, chances are there is a design suited just for you. In this post, we’ll review the White Hawk lineup of lightweight travel trailers .

Jayco White Hawk Review

Construction

Jayco starts the construction of the White Hawk with a custom-manufactured frame. Unlike some competitors who modify or weld stock frames, that can weaken the integrity of the foundation.

The frame is a Norco NextGen frame featuring high-strength, low-alloy steel, boasting the industry’s best strength-to-weight ratio.

The Jayco also features an integrated A-frame. The A-frame runs through the mainframe preventing the hitch from bucking, unlike a-frames that are tack-welded to the mainframe.

Jayco builds their RV walls with a Jayco exclusive process called “Stronghold VBL.” Stronghold VBL is a construction process where every wall (sidewall, rear wall, slide room wall) is bonded together for a minimum of 16 minutes under 144 tons of pressure. This creates laminations that are light and very strong.

The roof system on the Jayco White Hawk is Jayco’s Magnum Truss Roof System. According to Jayco, it is 50% stronger than other roofs in the industry. The Magnum Roof System uses 2×2 vertical studs placed to maximize load capacity.

Nail plates are then used on both sides of the vertical stud to enhance strength. Competitors typically use 1″ piece of aluminum as their vertical support. This isn’t as strong as it needs to be in certain areas.

Testing of the roof system showed it could withstand 4,500 pounds, whereas some other roofs could not support the weight, according to Jayco.

Exterior Features

When it comes to exterior features, the Jayco White Hawk is no slouch. Beginning at the front of the camper, you’ll find the fully integrated A-Frame we discussed earlier.

You then have the rounded front profile with a front diamond plate. The aerodynamic design helps reduce wind resistance and helps improve gas mileage and stability.

All the walls are vacuum-bonded laminates for durability and strength.

Select models floor plans of the White Hawk have outdoor kitchens with an embossed metal countertop. All are prepped for the installation of an outside TV.

You will also find marine-grade exterior speakers with blue-LED lighting for accent.

The axles are America-made Dexter with E-Z lube. You’ll find Dexter axles on many campers, including the SylvanSport Go we reviewed earlier, which we consider one of the best pop up campers available today.

Here are a few more of the many available exterior features on the Jayco White Hawk.

  • 30-amp service
  • 4 Stabilizer jacks
  • Keyed-Alike lock system
  • Galvanized steel wheel wells
  • Aluminum rims

To view all exterior features, you can visit Jayco’s specifications and options page .

Interior Features

The interior of the White Hawk exudes luxury throughout due to the clean design and quality appliances and furniture.

In the bedroom, you will find a comfy queen bed, and in the 30FLS & 32KBS, you’ll find a king bed. You can learn more about RV mattresses here. The 24MBH has a Murphy bed, though that is a feature we are not too wild about.

Here is an interior image of the Jayco White Hawk bedroom

In the Kitchen

In the kitchen, the White Hawk features solid hardwood cabinets, a deep split-bowl sink with a high-rise pull-out faucet. All drawers have ball-bearing slides with a 75-pound capacity.

The range is a 3-burner recessed cooktop with an oven. There is a decorative backsplash as well.

The refrigerator is an eight cu. Ft. gas/electric with stainless steel from panel (Mandatory Package). You’ll also find a microwave often.

Living Area

The living area is roomy, and the interior decor is something we like. Most RV manufacturers are moving away from the antiquated oak look to more modern colors and designs. The Jayco White Hawk is no exception, with an interior that looks very modern.

The interior decoration is available in two variations; Cashmere Cottage and Modern Farmhouse.

Cashmere Cottage

Features include an arched interior ceiling that makes the interior spacious. There is LED lighting throughout the interior, and on some models, you get a decorative wall clock.

The flooring is a residential grade vinyl flooring with what Jayco calls “cold crack resistance.”

For your heating and cooling needs, this Jayco has a high-out furnace with auto ignition and a 13,500 BTU air-conditioner.

The above prices were researched on RV Trader. I have an article with 40 examples of camper prices you can check out.

Owner Reviews

With the 2021 model just recently released, it’s hard to come by many owner reviews. However, if we look at RV Insider, we see about 39 reviews on White Hawk models from 2012 to 2021.

The overall rating is 3.8 out of 5. Most owners think favorably of this camper, but you’ll also find complaints about quality. Quality in construction is, unfortunately, an issue prevalent in the RV industry.

Jayco Warranty

Unlike many RV manufactures who offer a 1-year warranty, Jayco provides a 2-year warranty on their campers. The structural warranty runs for 3-years. You also have 15 additional warranties from their supplier-partners.

The Jayco Warranty is not transferable so keep that in mind when buying or selling a White Hawk.

Jayco RV Review: Should You Purchase Their RVs?

Since 1968, Jayco has satisfied millions of adventurous Americans with their innovative RVs. Today, they sure are one of the most acclaimed RV manufacturers, but do they really live up to this reputation? That’s what you’ll know in my Jayco RV review. I’ll talk about:

  • The general features of Jayco’s RVs.
  • The best Jayco travel trailers in 2020.
  • The most crucial disadvantages of Jayco.
  • And lots more!

Without any further ado, let’s start delving into the details!

Table of Contents

Jayco RV Review: What You’ll Typically See in Jayco Products

Later in this article, I’ll review some of my favorite Jayco trailers with a detailed description of their features and floorplans. But for now, let’s see some of the technologies and perks that you’ll find in any Jayco trailer, camper, RV, etc.

Goodyear Endurance Tires

Goodyear Endurance Tires

To guarantee impeccable safety, Jayco partners up with Goodyear , a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty tires. All the recent Jayco travel trailers, toy haulers, and fifth wheels feature the Endurance trailer tire .

What makes that tire special? Well, its polyester cord body is reinforced with two layers of nylon and two steel belts. That’s how it can handle massive loads with little to no air loss.

On the sides, Goodyear adds an extra layer of sturdy rubber that can effectively defend against punctures and scuffs — a feature that goes by the name “Durawall”.

I absolutely like the unique tread depth and decoupling grooves. Thanks to Goodyear’s special design, these attributes maintain effective temperature control, even while driving at full speed.

Disadvantages

These tires are covered by a 6-year prorated warranty. If you’re unfamiliar, prorated warranties don’t entail a free replacement. Instead, the company covers a percentage of the repair costs; however, that percentage decreases with time.

For instance, if a tire fails after three years, Jayco will reimburse only 50% of the purchase price. It would’ve been ideal if Jayco dedicates an initial non-prorated period for, say, a year, during which you’ll be eligible for free replacements.

JaySMART Safety Lighting System

Road accidents are no joke. And with the busy nature of our country, these unfortunate accidents become even more alarming. In 2018, records revealed that about 12 million vehicles encountered varying degrees of crashes !

We can’t really identify a common culprit for these accidents. However, faulty lights usually take the blame. If other drivers can’t communicate with you, accidents become almost inevitable.

Jayco wanted to change that for good. That’s why they came up with the JaySMART safety lighting system . This system denotes a broad set of LED lights, installed in conjunction with the basic trailer lights and indicators.

How Does It Work?

After hooking your Jayco travel trailer, the JaySMART system will automatically sync with the tow vehicle’s signals without any special adjustments.

When you apply your vehicle brakes, two or more rear LEDs will flash three times before they stay illuminated. After activating the turn signals, the LEDs will flash on the front, rear, and side of the trailer. And when you turn on the hazard lights, all LEDs will work simultaneously.

The thing I like the most about those lights is the fact that Jayco places them at the uppermost position on trailers. This way, you can maintain effective communication with other drivers, regardless of their vehicle height.

The JaySMART system may also include a large LED backlight. Thanks to its powerful illumination, this light will make it much easier to drive your tow vehicle in reverse.

The Magnum Truss Roof

Jayco prides itself on having a robust roof system that puts other competitors to shame. According to the official website, tests revealed that Jayco’s Magnum Truss roof is 50% stronger than most of the commercially famous alternatives.

How? Well, that impeccable strength traces back to the construction process. Jayco secures the roof decking by driving multiple screws at each seam. Some brands replace those screws with puny staples that provide neither depth nor support. With time, these staples tend to loosen, thereby puncturing the rubber roof cover.

To support the truss, Jacyo replaces the typical aluminum studs with wooden ones. At first glance, this might seem like a downgrade. However, since Jayco uses 2”x2” studs, they maximize the load capacity way more than the thinner aluminum.

After assembling the truss, Jayco secures it in place with oversized nail plates on both sides. Other brands use smaller blades on one side only, which increases the possibility of sudden detachment.

The Jayco Warranty: A Devil in Disguise

If you’ve ever visited Jayco’s official website, you must’ve stumbled upon their age-old claim — “Jayco’s warranty is the best in the RV business.” But does it really live up to this promise? Let’s see!

2+3 Warranty

At first glance, Jayco seems to offer a generous warranty . You get a 2-year limited warranty that extends for 24,000 miles for motorized vehicles. Other brands offer half that period with a much-limited coverage.

Additionally, models purchased after 2020 have an extra year of structural warranty. This covers things like the roof, laminated walls, and floors.

Partners’ Warranties

Parts that Jacyo purchases from other manufacturers aren’t covered in the main warranty. Instead, Jayco arranges special warranty programs with those manufacturers according to the nature of each part.

To put things into perspective, take a look at the following table that details almost all of Jayco’s partners alongside their warranties.

How Does the Warranty Works?

If you ever encounter a defect in a Jayco travel trailer, you’ll have to reach out to your local dealer in order to diagnose the problem. Afterward, the dealer will contact Jayco to get a confirmation on the warranty request.

This circle has proved to be tedious for many customers. While Jayco itself has a friendly customer service, the local deals often don’t. You might have to wait for 2–3 months just to get your warranty worked on. If you’re unlucky enough to have several defects, a significant period of your warranty will go down the drain.

So all in all, I have to say that Jayco’s warranty is nothing but a hollow promise. It sure isn’t “the best in the RV business!”

We’ve compared Jayco with other reputable RV brands in terms of warranty and other key features, here are some useful comparison guides:

  • Jayco vs Coleman
  • Jayco vs Forest River
  • Jayco vs Keystone

Jayco’s Top Travel Trailers

After discussing the general features, we can start reviewing some of the best RVs from Jayco.

Hummingbird Trailers

Hummingbird Trailers

As the name implies, the Hummingbird is Jayco’s lightest travel trailer with a weight that ranges between 1,500 and 3,000 pounds.

To give better protection against the elements, Jayco constructed this trailer’s sidewalls and floors with vacuum bonding.

The 2020 model comes with five different floorplans that range from 13 to 20 feet. I particularly like the 10RK model because it packs all the features that a small family will need in minimal size. However, most people may not appreciate that the kitchen is only accessible from outside.

All the Hummingbird trailers come with Jayco’s Teddy Bear mattress that excels in terms of comfort. This is such a valuable perk for folks who like to embark on lengthy journeys.

The 17RB , the most elaborate model, comes with a convection microwave, 2-way refrigerator, foot-flush toilet, dry-design shower, and a linen cabinet.

Jay Feather Micro Trailers

Jay Feather Micro Trailer

Until now, Jayco hasn’t announced a 2021 version of the Hummingbird trailer. If you want to buy a recent model, you can opt for a Jay Feather Micro . Just like their predecessors, these trailers can have an absolutely minimal build that weighs 1,500 pounds. The most elaborate floorplan weighs about 4,500 pounds, which is a prominent upgrade to the Hummingbird.

The 12SRK , the smallest floorplan, replaces the bed with a small futon sofa, which makes it ideal for single campers. The kitchen is also minimal with a 17″ Blackstone griddle, 12V Dometic cooler, and a small TV.

The 199MBS , the largest model, offers a surprisingly elaborate experience. You’ll get a queen bed, double 90″ bunk beds, a residential fridge, a microwave, and a U-shaped dinette. I especially like the outside kitchen with the griddle and 14-foot awning — that’s no small feat for lightweight trailers. Check our Review of the Jayco Jay Feather travel trailers if you need to learn more about this line.

Jay Flight Bungalow Trailers

Jay Flight Bungalow Trailers

Do you want to enjoy the most luxurious camping ever? The Jay Flight Bungalow should be your best bet. Since the initial release in 2001, the unmatched beauty of the Jay Flight series has made it the best-selling travel trailer in America. In 2015, Jayco revamped the Bungalow to provide even more quality.

I absolutely like the farmhouse interior because it gives that warm, inviting feel. All the floorplans come with a reclining sofa that sits in front of a 50-inch TV. If you’re going on a trip with nobody but your significant other, you’ll love having dinner next to the romantic electric fireplace.

With four floorplans, you’re guaranteed to find what you need without compromising on weight and towing.

The 40LOFT , the most elaborate model, has a spacious loft above the main bedroom. Since it contains two bed mats, this loft would be ideal for accommodating unexpected campsite guests.

White Hawk

The White Hawk trailer suits people who want to experience true luxury without straying away from the lightweight category (5,300–7,500 pounds). The latest 2021 version comes with an automotive-style windshield that, together with the other windows, gives a fantastic 360-view.

With 11 floorplans , the White Hawk trailers provide the greatest variety. These plans include an outside shower, a 34-inch-radius inner shower with a solid enclosure, a porcelain foot flush toilet, a large medicine cabinet, and a sizeable powered roof vent.

As for the bedroom, this trailer comes with either a king or queen-sized bed. The room is enhanced with romantic LED lights and broad frameless windows.

Moving on to the rest of the trailer, you’ll find an 8-cubic-foot refrigerator, 3-burner recessed cooktop with oven, and a microwave. There are also a 40-inch TV and powerful Bluetooth speakers to pass the time.

Eagle Trailers

Eagle Trailer

Those who want the ultimate travel trailer should definitely consider the Eagle series . It’s one of the largest models offered by Jayco with a maximum weight of 9,800 pounds. You can choose between 4 residential-style floorplans that provide pretty much the same amenities with minor design tweaks.

I like how Jayco paid extra attention to the kitchen. You’ll get an amazing outdoor kitchen with a hybrid cooktop grill to take advantage of the lovely summer nights. On the inside, you’ll find a 13.5-cubic-foot refrigerator, yet some plans offer massive 21-cubic-foot alternatives.

While you’re chilling on the theatre seating, you’ll be able to enjoy a marvelous entertainment center with an electric fireplace and Bluetooth speakers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are jayco trailers made by the amish.

Jayco’s headquarters is based in Middlebury, Indiana. Since the Amish are pretty common there, their community, alongside Mennonites, comprises about three-quarters of Jayco’s workforce.

This fact is one of the reasons why most Jayco trailers feel so warm and welcoming, just like a typical Amish farmhouse.

How long is Jayco’s warranty?

The basic warranty covers the RV for two years or 24,000 miles for motorized vehicles.

Starting from 2020, all RVs come with an additional year of structural warranty that covers the roof, laminated walls, and floors.

The Final Word

As you saw, Jayco’s state-of-the-art designs check a lot of boxes. The fact that all the models come with Goodyear Endurance tires is a valuable safety perk for folks who like to camp on a regular basis.

The most prominent disadvantage is in the warranty. Yes, Jayco offers what seems to be the most extended warranty on the market. But the daunting process will probably devour a significant portion of that period.
