How to get an India visa for Dutch nationals

Most travelers no longer need to visit the Indian embassy to get their visa, including Dutch nationals. Now, there is a better solution out there if you are planning to visit India. You can apply for an India e-Visa , which is the digital version of going to the embassy.

The best part is that you can apply for your visa from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a computer or a smartphone with internet connection to get started. Even better! We'll help you with this process so you can just focus on your trip. Have questions? In this article, we have answered the most frequent ones!

Alt Text

What is an Indian e-Visa?

An e-visa is an official document that gives you permission to travel to and within India. It is electronically linked to your passport.

What are the types of e-Visa there are for Dutch nationals?

There are 3 types of e-Visas:

Tourist e-Visa

Business e-Visa

Medical e-Visa

In this article, we'll focus more on the Tourist e-Visa . For any doubts about the other two e-visa, you can click here for more information.

What are the requirements for Dutch nationals?

We'll do most of the work for you, but you need to provide us with a few things to have your request processed. Below, you'll find a list of everything you need to provide:

Valid passport – most Dutch nationals can obtain a passport without difficulty, and if you already have one, make sure that it is not expired.

Digital photo of yourself – make sure that the photo is recent. You should not make face gestures in it, and the background should be white. Just scan it and be ready to upload it.

A passport scan of the information page

Payment resource – iVisa accepts multiple methods of payment. You can use a credit or a debit card, and if you have an account on Paypal, you can use that too.

What are the processing time and visa costs for Dutch nationals?

The cost of your visa depends on two things: visa type and processing time. At iVisa, we offer three types of visas for tourism: 30-day, 1-year, and 5-year visa. We provide three options for processing time:

Standard processing time: This is a great choice for travelers who have a flexible schedule and can wait a bit longer for their visa.

Rush processing time: Opt for this if you require your visa more quickly than the standard period.

Super rush processing time: Ideal for those in urgent need of their Indian visa.

Remember that the cost varies for each type of e-Visa.

How's the application form?

Most Dutch nationals will appreciate our application form as it is really simple. It only has three steps, and the company has amazing customer service that is ready to take your call day and night in case you need any help.

In the first step, you have to insert your general information, and you should be able to finish it in about 5 minutes. You must also choose the processing time and visa type. Both choices will affect the cost of your visa, so be sure about what to choose.

The second step will require Dutch nationals to review and make the payment. It is highly recommended that you check the accuracy of the information you input because revision is no longer possible once your application is processed.

You must answer a few personal questions and upload a photo in the last step. After completing all the steps, submit the form and wait. It does not get any easier than that.

How long is this e-visa valid for, and how many entries am I allowed?

This also depends on the e-Visa type. Check out our blog for comprehensive information on India Tourist e-Visa validity and length of stay .

What happens if I enter India on a cruise?

This e-Visa will still be accepted if you enter India by sea if you only enter through these seaports: Cochin, Goa, New Mangalore, Mumbai, and Chennai.

Can I enter through any airport in India?

No, you can't. These are the only airports that will allow the e-Visa:

Tiruchirapalli

Thiruvananthapuram

Visakhapatnam

If you select another point of entry during your trip, you will have to go to the embassy.

Do I need this e-Visa if I'm just transiting through the country?

You do not need this e-visa if you just have a layover and don't intend to go through customs or leave the transit area.

What is Reciprocity?

Nonimmigrant visa applicants from certain countries*/areas of authority may be required to pay a visa issuance fee after their application is approved. These fees are based on the principle of  reciprocity:  when a foreign government imposes fees on U.S. citizens for certain types of visas, the United States will impose a reciprocal fee on citizens of that country*/area of authority for similar types of visas.

How Do I Find Out if I Have to Pay a Reciprocity Fee?

To view the Reciprocity Page for your country* of nationality, select your country*/area of authority from the list of countries on the left side menu. On the Reciprocity Page, select the Visa Classifications tab from the column on the left

Select the type of visa you have applied for, such as a B-1/B-2 (temporary visa for business or pleasure), F-1 (student visa), etc. from the drop down menu:

The reciprocity information for that country*/area of authority will display:

What does this table tell me?

Visa Classification:  The type of nonimmigrant visa you are applying for.

Fee:  The reciprocity fee, also known as the visa issuance fee, you must pay. This fee is in addition to the nonimmigrant visa application fee (MRV fee).

Number of Entries:  The number of times you may seek entry into the United States with that visa. “M” means multiple times. If there is a number, such as “One”, you may apply for entry one time with that visa.

Validity Period:  This generally means the visa is valid, or can be used, from the date it is issued until the date it expires, for travel with that visa. If your Validity Period is 60 months, your visa will be valid for 60 months from the date it is issued.

What is the Difference between the Reciprocity Fee and the Nonimmigrant Visa Application Fee?

The nonimmigrant visa application fee, also known as the MRV fee, is a nonrefundable fee paid by most applicants for U.S. visas, whether the application is approved or refused. It covers the costs associated with processing a U.S. visa application. Current nonimmigrant visa application fees can be found on our  Fees – Visa Services  webpage. (This webpage also lists the few visa categories for which application fees are not required.)

While most visa applicants are required to pay the visa application fee, the Reciprocity Fee is only charged to an approved nonimmigrant visa applicant after the visa interview.

Immigrant Visa Interviews

For Immigrant Visa interviews each U.S. Embassy or Consulate has specific instructions for their applicants. Please click here to select your designated interview location.

Civil Documents and How to Use Them

Immigrant visa applicants are required to submit certain civil documents as part of their visa application, such as birth certificates and police records. (Nonimmigrant visa applicants do not routinely need to submit civil documents as part of their visa application.) Each Reciprocity Page will provide detailed information about how to obtain these civil documents from the country* you have selected, as well as the location of the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where you can apply for your visa. For more information about civil document requirements for immigrant visa cases, see  civil documents .

To view the Civil Documents for your country* of nationality, select your country*/area of authority from the drop-down menu below. On the Reciprocity Page, click on the tabs on the left to see the categories of Civil Documents and how to obtain them.

* With respect to all references to “country” or “countries” on this page, it should be noted that the Taiwan Relations Act of 1979, Pub. L. No. 96-8, Section 4(b)(1), provides that “[w]whenever the laws of the United States refer or relate to foreign countries, nations, states, governments, or similar entities, such terms shall include and such laws shall apply with respect to Taiwan.” 22 U.S.C. § 3303(b) (1). Accordingly, all references to “country” or “countries” in the Visa Waiver Program authorizing legislation, Section 217 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. 1187, are read to include Taiwan. This is consistent with the United States’ one-China policy, under which the United States has maintained unofficial relations with Taiwan since 1979.

• Bilateral relations underwent further intensification after India’s economic liberalisation in the early 1990s. In 2006, former Prime Minister Balkenende’s government declared India, along with China and Russia, as priority countries in Dutch foreign policy.

• Trade and commercial relations constitute the bedrock of bilateral ties between the two countries.

• Agriculture is one of the core sectors identified by the Netherlands for enhancing bilateral cooperation with India.
