Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour in Northern Ireland is the first permanent official Game of Thrones tourist attraction in the world. Located in the Linen Mills Studios, the original filming studios for Game of Thrones, the tour offers visitors a unique behind-the-scenes look into how the show was filmed. The tour includes a host of original sets along with the original costumes and props used in filming.

The tour is one of the best Game of Thrones filming locations in Ireland and is a must-visit for any fans of the show. Having visited the studios we’ve put together this guide to help anyone planning a trip, including how to get there, what to expect on the tour and any tips we found useful.

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour opened in the Linen Mill Studios in February 2022 as the first permanent officially licenced Game of Thrones tourist attraction in the world. Visitors take a self-guided tour through the original studios which includes 12 of the original sets used for filming.

When we heard of the studio tour opening we took the first opportunity to visit and visited the opening weekend in February 2022.

We’re huge fans of the hit HBO series, Game of Thrones. We’ve visited many of the Game of Thrones filming locations around Europe, you can check our guides to:

  • Game of Thrones Filming locations in Malta
  • Game of Thrones Filming locations in Croatia
  • Game of Thrones Filming locations in Ireland
  • Game of Thrones filming locations in Dubrovnik
GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS AHEAD! As you might expect, parts of the tour described below contain massive spoilers for the show!

How to Get to the Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The Studio tour is located at the Linen Mills Studios outside Banbridge in Northern Ireland. Visitors must park at the designated car park at the Banbridge shopping outlet, The Boulevard, and take a shuttle bus to the actual studios. The Boulevard is around 90 minutes by car from Dublin or 30 minutes from Belfast.

After parking in the designated car park, there is a ticket office where you can wait for the bus. Once the bus arrives the staff will scan your ticket and it’s a 10 to15 minute bus ride to the studios.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: there are a limited number of parking spaces for Blue Badge holders at the Linen Mills Studio. You must reserve in advance.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

How much are tickets for the Studio Tour?

There are various ticket options available for the studio tour. Standard individual tickets are £39.50 per person with child tickets (5-15 years) costing £27.50. Students are £31.50 with a valid ID. Children 4 and under go free.

Family tickets (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children) are £115 and £109 respectively.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: Ticket prices are expensive, however having visited the studios we found the entrance is well worth the price. The wealth of materials from the show and sets make it well worth the entrance price.

There are also ticket and transfer ticket packages that include return transport from Dublin and Belfast. Tickets for the tour must be purchased in advance from the studio tour website here .

How long is the Tour?

The studio tour will likely take at least 2 hours, including the shuttle bus from the Boulevard Shopping Outlet at Banbridge. We spent around 3 hours in total and could easily have spent another hour exploring all the exhibits. Based on this we’d budget around 3 to 4 hours to really enjoy everything the studio has to offer.

Game of Thrones Studio tour tip: The Shuttle bus from the parking lot takes around 15 minutes each way so you’ll need to factor this into your plans.

The Studio Tour

We’ve included a brief summary of each of the main areas of the studio tour.

Game of Thrones Studio tour tip: We highly recommend downloading the Game of Thrones Studio Tour app ( iOS / Android ) prior to your visit. You can store your ticket QR code on the app and the app has the free studio map and audio tour (for an additional cost)

On arrival at the studio, there is a cloakroom and a stall to pick up audio guides (these can be purchased in advance when ordering tickets) or ear protectors for young children (there are some loud parts of the tour).

Before starting the tour there is a cafe in the lobby for snacks. The tour starts after you leave the lobby.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

1 | Theatre

The first stop in the studio is a short Game of Thrones and studio introductory video in the auditorium. After this visitors start the self-guided tour around the studio.

2 | Beyond the Wall

The first section of the tour after the auditorium is all things North of the Wall. Character costumes include the Free Folk (the wildlings), the Night King and his henchmen and the life-sized giant, Wun Wun.

It’s incredible to see the actual props and costumes used in the show and the level of detail is incredible.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip : Make sure to check out the prosthetics section of the tour where staff outline how the actor wore the giant suit. It even had its only air conditioning to counter the heat of the suit!

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

3 | Production and Set Design

The tour progresses to a section on production and set design. This was one of our favorite parts of the tour as it gave a behind the scenes look at the concept art and set designs for many of the shows iconic scenes. There are many original scale models of various sets, including Winterfell and the Great Sept of Baelor.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

4 | Castle Black and The Night’s Watch

Next up is Castle Black and the home of the Night’s Watch. As the set designers envisioned, Castle Black was not a pleasant place. Characters on display include Jon Snow, Sam Tarley, and Melisandre (the priestess).

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

5 | Set Decoration and Props

The props section of the tour includes a myriad of props from the show. From small items such as weaponry and dragon eggs to larger-scale ships this section is packed with instantly recognisable props from the show

It’s worth looking at all the display cabinets in this section as there are some real gems hidden away, like the original “petrified” dragon eggs that were a wedding gift to Daenery’s Targaryen in season 1.

There’s also a fun interactive exhibit where visitors can design their own shield and crest.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: For those who fancy a break there is a studio cafe located just before the Winterfell Crypts. The restaurant serves food throughout the day from breakfast until close

6 | The Crypts of Winterfell

Fans of the show will remember the crypts that lie under Winterfell castle. They feature in many scenes in the show and some of the most impressive tombs can be viewed on the studio tour.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

7 | Winterfell

The Great Hall of Winterfell set is the only set at the studio that has remained in the same place since season one of Game of Thrones. As the location for so many iconic Game of Thrones scenes, it’s no surprise that it was our favorite set on the tour! It really feels like you are in the world of Game of Thrones when you enter the Winterfell set.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Many of the show’s best-known character costumes are lined around the hall walls, including Jon Snow, Arya Stark, Sansa Stark, Sandor Clegane (The Hound), Tyrian Lannister, and Brienne of Tarth to name just a few.

Visitors can easily spend over 30 minutes just looking at all the costumes in this set.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

8 | Dragonstone

The feature set in the Dragonstone section is the Chamber of the Painted Table which has a detailed map of Westeros engraved on its surface. The characters depicted here include Tyrion Lannister and Olenna Tyrell.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

9 | Costume Design

One of the most impressive aspects of Game of Thrones was the intricate and diverse range of costumes that the actors wore. From heavily armored outfits to sleek, flowing dresses, the costume design section follows the Dragonstone sets and shows visitors exactly what it took to design all of the costumes, including displays of many of the iconic outfits.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

10 | The Hall of Faces

The Hall of Faces is one of the most recognisable sets from Game of Thrones. The designers of Game of Thrones had to make over 600 individual prosthetic faces for the Hall of Faces set.

There is a really cool interactive exhibit where you can appear on one of the pillars of the Hall of Faces.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

11 | The Armory

The job of designing and making the vast array of weapons in Game of Thrones fell to master craftsman, Tommy Dunne. Tommy is a master armorer for movies and tv shows and worked previously on the movie Braveheart, Gladiator, and V for Vendetta.

Most of the signature weapons are on display, including Jon Snow’s sword, Longclaw, Ned Starks swords, Arya’s Needle and the dagger used to slay the Night King.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

There is also a fun interactive game where visitors can “shoot” a bow and arrow to kill the Wights attacking Winterfell.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

12 | Kings Landing

While the real-life city of Dubrovnik was used for Game of Thrones filming locations of Kings Landing, the studio was used for most of the internal shots. One of the most recognizable sets, the Map Courtyard is on display and featured in many important scenes.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour tip: The map was handpainted on tiles by two scenic painters, Dave Packard and Greg Winter, at the original set in the Titanic Studios.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

13 | The Throne Room

The final stop on the tour is the remains of the Throne Room after Daenerys Targaryen destroyed Kings Landing. The centrepiece of the room is of course the Iron Throne. Although there was a debate at the end of the show whether Drogon destroyed the throne, the original is here for everyone to see.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

The tour finishes in the studio gift shop which holds a really impressive selection of merchandise from the show.

Is the Game of Thrones Studio Tour Worth it?

So is the Game of Thrones Studio worth the trip? We say yes! Any fan of the Game of Thrones series will love the studio tour. The variety and number of sets, costumes, and props on display are amazing and it’s also cool to walk around the studio where many of the show’s iconic scenes were filmed. Although the entry cost is high, we guarantee that fans of the show will really enjoy the tour and we found it worth the cost.

There is no better place in the world than Northern Ireland to explore the world of the Seven Kingdoms. Linen Mills Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland has been transformed from a working film studio to an immersive experience where you walk through the realms seeing how the sets were created, costumes designed and weapons forged. Whether you are a Game of Thrones fan or not, this is an amazing day trip from Belfast or Dublin to experience the behind-the-scenes magic and what it takes to create one of the most successful series of all time.

Table of Contents

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Located just 30 minutes from Belfast and 90 minutes from Dublin, Linen Mills Studios was the main film studio for the HBO Series, The Game of Thrones. It was in these studios that John Snow was murdered by his own men, that Jamie and Cersei Lannister plotted their revenge to conquer the seven kingdoms, and where they eventually met their demise.

The most successful series in the world may have ended, but House of the Dragon is just beginning. If you are a fan of the series, you won’t want to miss this immersive experience.

The expansive collection includes authentic sets from the Night’s Watch where Jon Snow was brought back to life by the Red Witch to the ruined throne room and the impressive Map Room at Kings Landing. But there is so much more to it than just sets. Read on to find out everything you will experience at this one-of-a-kind attraction.

The Experience

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Experience

It is a rare thing to explore an authentic filming location of any blockbuster show yet the Game of Thrones Studio tour not only takes you through the actual sets from the series but also showcases its expansive collection of costumes, weapons, original props, and iconic sets during your self-guided tour.

Take a journey through the entire filming process to see the creator’s vision from the beginning. The tour begins by setting the tone with a powerful film building anticipation before the doors open to a wall of smoke and dry ice transporting you beyond the wall to the land of giants and wildlings.

Day Players as Guides

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Tour Guides

What we loved most was being told stories of the experience by actual day players and regular background performers. People who actually fought in the great battles and rubbed elbows with Kit Harrington, Peter Dinklage, and Emilia Clark told us stories of their days on sets, personal experiences, and what the filming of Game of Thrones was actually like. Some of them went to work one day and ended up staying on the series for five years as regular extras.

Things to See on the Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Things to see

We were giddy with excitement as we entered the studio. The mood was set with dry ice and imposing music as we walked through the doors to discover the location beyond the wall. Wildlings stood as centries either welcoming us or warning us as we stepped into their country. See what other countries Game of Thrones was filmed in at Game of Thrones Filming Locations You Can Visit in Real Life

Great Hall at Winterfell

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Winterfell Great Hall

Stand in the place where Little Finger was executed by Ayria and where the Starks welcomed many a guest into their home. This is one of the most impressive set pieces but there are several throughout the studio tour that you will walk through and be completely immersed in.

Hall of Faces

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Hall of Faces

Our favorite room on the Game of Thrones Studio Tour was the Hall of Faces. This was one of the creepiest sets of the series and it definitely felt like we had been immersed in the experience. We even had the chance to put our own faces on the walls. These impressive rooms were a highlight of our time in the studios as it really captured what we watched on the screen.

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Map Room

I found this room to be one of the most impressive rooms on the studio tour. I have vivid memories of watching Cersei plot her invasions and plan to take over the seven kingdoms in this beautiful room. The contrast of her evilness with the beauty of this room was not lost on me.

Crypts of Winterfell

Game of Thrones Winterfell Crypts

No Game of Thrones tour would be complete without visiting the Crypts of Winterfell. They have been featured since way back in Season 1 and are the true heart of the Starks. Key moments throughout the series have taken place in these halls and you can feel the weight of the Starks as you stand among their statues.

Ruined Throne Room at Kings Landing

Throne Room at Game of Thrones Studio Tour

There is no doubt that the star attraction is the last of the rooms to explore on your tour. After an amazing trip through the world of the seven kingdoms, it ends at the ruined Throne Room. See the iron throne at King’s Landing after it was scorched by dragons after Daenerys Targaryen attacks Kings Landing.

Mannequins of Jon and Daenerys stand in center stage and you can almost feel the tension in the air as she is about to meet her fate.

Iron Throne

Iron Throne Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Don’t worry, after visiting the studios, there is one more set piece to access. It is time to sit on the Iron Throne and take your souvenir home with you. This is the actual Iron Throne, everyone! The entire series was about getting on that throne and you get to simply sit on it and make your claim and force everyone to bend the knee.

game of thrones deb on iron throne

It was a highlight of our trip and you must make sure to purchase a copy. We had an entire photo shoot pretending we were on location filming our own scenes from the series.

Visual Effects Studio

Visual Effects Game of Thrones Studio Tour

A visit to Linen Mills Studios doesn’t only focus on sets and recreations of pivotal scenes, it also lets you discover the process from the show’s earliest concepts in design and visual effects. See hand-drawn sketches of costumes, learn how their visual effects were brought to life, and see how they were implemented to create those jaw-dropping final cuts.

Costumes and Make Up

Costumes Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Throughout the tour, mannequins are standing in actual costumes from the series. One of the guides located throughout the settings pointed out the intricate details created in every costume. Nothing was ever left out with each costume design, prosthetic, and set piece created with perfect detail.

The creature effects were also impressive to see. The make up department had its hand full creating creatures from white walkers and giants to dealing with all that blood and gore throughout its 8 season run. As a former makeup artist in the TV industry, I found this exhibit fascinating.

Interactive Displays

Game of Thrones Studio Tour Interactive Displays

During your visit, you have several chances to try your hand at creating and enjoying interactive entertainment. You can create your own sigil, see how white walkers came to life, and make them dance. After that, pick up an arrow and take down as many white walkers as you can, or relax in front of the makeup mirror to create your own visual effects.

Armory Game of Thrones Studio Tour

I found the armory to be fascinating. We looked at actual props of thousands of spears and swords used by extras. But they also had the actual weapons used by the stars. See Ayria’s sword needle, The crossbow Tyrion used to kill his father, and Ned Stark’s Valyrian steel sword.

How to Get to Linen Mill Studios

Getting to Game of Thrones Studio Tour Linen Mills

Dark Hedges

Game of Thrones Dark Hedges

The Dark Hedges is still one of our favorite places to visit in Northern Ireland not only for its beauty but for its memorable scene from season 1. Game of Thrones Winterfell at Castle Ward

By far, our most memorable immersion in the seven kingdoms was at Castle Ward, located in County Down, Northern Ireland. We stepped into Winterfell where we donned fur cloaks and tried our hand at archery, just as Bran did in season one as Ned Stark looked on.

Located just 45 minutes from the Game of Thrones Studio in Banbridge, this is an excellent addition to your Northern Ireland GOT experience.

Visiting Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge was a highlight of all our trips to Northern Ireland and Ireland. This was one of the best interactive museums we have ever visited and now that we’ve seen what Warner Bros has done with GOT, we look forward to visiting the Harry Potter studios in London as we hear this studio tour modeled itself after that other epic series that we loved.

If you are visiting Dublin or Belfast, make sure to add this tour to your list. Especially if you are a fan of the series or planning to watch House of the Dragon. See our full breakdown at A Game of Thrones Tour of Northern Ireland

Tickets must be booked in advance, you can reserve tickets on their website. We recommend spending at least 3 hours at the studios. We could have honestly used another hour and for fans anywhere from 3-5 hours. That will give you the chance to really take in all the exhibits. There is a shop to buy memorabilia and a cafe for food and drinks.

To say we enjoyed our time at Linen Mills is an understatement. We had three hours to visit the authentic filming location and it wasn’t enough. As fans of the series, we could have spent the entire day here reading every piece of information from sketches of the series’ earliest concepts to how they created those jaw-dropping final cuts.

It’s one of the most amazing tours we have ever taken and while we had about three hours to explore the many film sets, interactive exhibits, and showcase of rooms, we could have spent all day.

I went on the new Game of Thrones studio tour, which is home to the infamous Iron Throne and an interactive Hall of Faces

  • A new Game of Thrones studio tour, which cost $54 million to build, has opened to the public.
  • It is located in one of the show's filming locations in Banbridge, Northern Ireland.
  • I took the studio tour and saw some of the original sets, props, and costumes.

An official Game of Thrones Studio Tour has opened to the public in Northern Ireland, where much of the series was filmed.

At 110,000 square feet, the tour features a host of original costumes, props and sets used during the filming of the TV show, including the iconic Iron Throne.

The tour is tucked away in Linen Mill Studios in Banbridge, Northern Ireland. The studios are where a significant number of the show's most memorable scenes were shot.

Once a linen plant, the site was adapted by HBO to create a studio for Game of Thrones in 2012. According to the studios' general manager, Brad Kelly, it cost upwards of $54 million to transform the studios into a visitor attraction.

Kelly told Insider that HBO announced plans to create a Game of Thrones visitor attraction in 2018, but the pandemic delayed the project a number of times. It was opened to the public on February 4, and I joined the tour one week later.

The tour is packed with original costumes, props, and sets used in filming. The first section of the tour — Beyond the Wall — features original costumes worn by The Night King and Jon Snow.

One staff member told me that the original model of Wun Wun the giant used in filming was too high to fit inside the studios and had to be arranged in a kneeling position.

The tour is interactive and immersive throughout. It has a section dedicated to production design and art, where you can design your own sigil.

At every stage of the tour, staff were waiting to fill guests in on the small details. One staff member told me that the small budget for the first series meant the costume design team used rugs from IKEA as capes.

I was able to walk right up to these authentic statues to snap some photos. One member of staff - who was also an extra on the show - told me they are true to the actors' heights.

"There's a lot of intimacy in the visitor experience, you can get close to all the design features, the costumes, some of which you wouldn't see when watching the show," Kelly told Insider.

If you're a fan, the most captivating portion of the tour is Winterfell's Great Hall. The hall is home to some of the series' most important moments...

Scenes in the hall were filmed in Linen Mill Studios. According to Kelly, the set remained in its original location and the studio tour was built around it.

The tour features a section dedicated entirely to costumes, where you can see Daenerys Targaryen's white fur coat and Cersei Lannister's coronation gown.

Just across from the costume display, you can see the set of the Dragonstone map room.

There is also an interactive section where you can learn more about the prosthetics used to bring the show's characters to life...

... and you can add your own face to the Hall of Faces.

The tour finishes at King's Landing, where you can see the grand map courtyard, small council chamber and King Tommen's living quarters.

The last exhibit is the room containing the Iron Throne. According to one staff member, the series' most famous prop was created using weapons from other film franchises.

After finishing the tour, there's also space for visitors to debrief, buy some food or a souvenir. You can even snap a picture on a replica of the Iron Throne.

According to Tourism Northern Ireland, one in 6 people comes to the region to visit Game of Thrones filming locations, contributing over £250 million ($335 million) to the local economy in total.

game of thrones studio tour menu

Kelly told Insider that he was being "pragmatic" about the revival of Northern Ireland's tourism industry in the wake of the pandemic, but hoped to welcome around half a million visitors to the studios in 2022.

I took the Game of Thrones Studio Tour and had a blast!

Game of Thrones remains the biggest TV show to ever grace our screens. It's brilliant storytelling, breathtaking visuals, and enormous environments set it leagues apart from other shows. In the years since the series ended, the studio in Banbridge, Northern Ireland has become a museum dedicated to the show, attracting hundreds of passionate fans every day. The Game of Thrones Studo Tour is the biggest single-level indoor visitor attraction in Northern Ireland.

Recently, I visited the Game of Thrones Studio Tour, which is about a 30 minute drive outside Belfast. I had a fantastic day, one that every Game of Thrones fan should strive to experience. They really put on a show for fans; this isn't a dull tour by any stretch.

The tour begins Beyond the Wall. You see the costumes of all your favorites, including the Night King and giant Wun Wun, who is as big as he appears in the show.

All the sets on display are completely genuine. Up close, you really get to see the intricacy of each costume and prop. Each set you walk past has an information point where you learn about each prop and when it was used. Some places even have televisions where Game of Thrones star Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei) narrates your journey. Take a peek inside one of the prop rooms:

My favorite set was the Great Hall of Winterfell. I was particularly surprised by how small the hall really is — there's definitely some movie magic going on here to make it seem vast and cavernous. In fact, I sought conformation from a member of staff, who assured me that not only was it the real hall used in the show, but it was one of the only sets in the studio that remained completely unchanged from filming. Take a look!

Another clear highlight was the Map Courtyard in King's Landing, the one Cersei walked in the final couple of seasons of the show. It's as stunning as it is on television. It's a shame there's a barrier in the way though, I'd have loved to stand on the map myself. But these things have to be preserved, I guess.

And of course, at the climax of the tour is the Iron Throne Room in all its majesty. Unlike the Great Hall in Winterfell, this place really does have the grandeur we all expect it to have. That said, when you look up, the illusion is washed away.

Sadly, you don't get to sit on — or even touch — the real Iron Throne. All photo opportunities are taken on a fake, plastic Iron Throne.

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is incredibly interactive!

Despite all of the props and costumes that can't be tampered with, the studio provides plenty of exciting activities. From teaching you how motion capture works to games where you can kill wights with a bow and arrow, there's plenty to do.

I loved all of the photo opportunities. There's green-screen photo stations all the way through the tour. Plus, you can also project your face onto the Hall of Faces, which was a fun little station.

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour is an incredible experience, made better by the friendly staff and fun atmosphere. Everyone went out of their way for conversation, offering their exceptional knowledge on the show's history. We spent about three hours there, and we would've been longer had we not been pressed for time.

The Game of Thrones Studio Tour has got the WiC stamp of approval!

Taylor Swift stopped her concert in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Friday to help a fan.

Swift was in the middle of singing her “Midnights” song “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve” when she noticed a fan who was in distress. In a video that went viral on social media , the singer-songwriter is seen requesting assistance for the fan. “We need help right in front of me, please, right in front of me,” Swift sang while playing her guitar and keeping her eyes locked on the fan. “Just gonna keep playing until we notice where it is.”

After the fan received support, and Swift got the message that they were fine, she said, “You’re good? Awesome!” She then seamlessly returned to singing “Would’ve Could’ve Should’ve.”

The following night in Swift’s three-night run in Edinburgh, she performed “The Bolter” for the first time, which is one of the songs from the Anthology edition of her latest album “The Tortured Poets Department.” She then transitioned to sing “Getaway Car” from “Reputation.”

Swift also added two more songs to her first live performances: a mashup of “Crazier,” a track from 2009’s “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” and “All of the Girls You Loved Before,” a song that was originally slated for her 2019 album “Lover” but was released last year. “You get extra points if you know this next song at all because it is really, really old,” Swift told the crowd at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium in between transitioning from “All of the Girls You Loved Before” to end with “Crazier.”

Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd.

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that.

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role.

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

  • Atlant @ Ufa, Friday Apr 8 (3:00 PM CET/10:00 PM EST)
  • Atlant @ Ufa, Sunday Apr 10 (1:00 PM CET/8:00 AM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Tuesday Apr 12 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)
  • Ufa @ Atlant, Thursday Apr 14 (5:30 PM CET/12:30 PM EST)

Games 5-7 are as yet unscheduled, but every second day is the KHL standard, so expect Game 5 to be on Saturday, like an early start.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery and Museum

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

game of thrones studio tour menu

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

game of thrones studio tour menu

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

game of thrones studio tour menu

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

game of thrones studio tour menu

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

game of thrones studio tour menu

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

game of thrones studio tour menu

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

game of thrones studio tour menu

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
