Elton John at AO Arena Manchester – tickets, setlist, support act and more

Everything you need to know for the huge concerts.

Daisy Jackson

Elton John is set to touch down in Manchester this week as the legendary musician continues his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Elton has just played 10 (yes TEN) shows at the O2 in London, and now he’s heading up north.

He’ll be doing three huge shows at the AO Arena as part of this tour, his final ever.

It’s all ahead of his headline performance at Glastonbury too. We all knew Elton John wasn’t going to retire without a fanfare, come on…

His unparalleled career spans six decades, five Grammy Awards, and a frankly unbelievable 31 studio albums.

His massive hits include Rocket Man, Saturday Night’s Alright (for Fighting), I’m Still Standing, and Candle In The Wind, which became the fastest- and biggest-selling single of all time after he performed it at Princess Diana’s funeral.

He was also the subject of the award-winning 2019 film Rocketman, starring Taron Egerton.

Elton has already performed night one in Manchester – you can read our review here .

The tour has had to be rescheduled a couple of times but it is finally here. Here’s everything you need to know if you’re seeing Elton John in Manchester.

When is Elton John performing in Manchester?

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Elton John (@eltonjohn)

Elton is in town for three nights this week (it’s a really big week for live music – Coldplay are just up the road and Arctic Monkeys are on their way too).

He’ll be performing on Wednesday 31 May, Friday 2 June, and Saturday 3 June.

Tickets for Elton John at AO Arena, Manchester

Unbelievably, there are still a few tickets left for Elton John – and all three dates too.

It’s mostly down to single seats around the arena, which are priced between £136.35 and £807.35 (ouch).

There are also some restricted view tickets on sale, with discounted prices to make up for it – they’re up at £74.45.

Check the latest availability at Ticketmaster .

Who is supporting Elton John in Manchester?

No one. He’s doing this one solo – to be fair, he’s got enough hits to fill a few hours…

Stage times

Despite the lack of support act, ticket-holders for Elton John are in for a long old night of live music.

The iconic singer is going to fill almost three hours with his hits.

Here are the expected stage times.

How to get to the AO Arena

elton john farewell tour support act uk

The AO Arena is right in the heart of the city centre, so it’s fairly easy to get to.

On foot: The AO Arena is located within the Manchester Victoria Station complex in the city centre, on the corner of Trinity Way, Hunts Bank and Great Ducie Street. You can enter through the station (up the stairs), through the Trinity Way Tunnel, or from Hunts Bank.

By tram: Also super straight-forward – hop off the tram at Manchester Victoria and you’re right by the stairs to the venue. It’s also a short walk from Exchange Square and Shudehill. Trams run directly to Victoria Station from Rochdale, Bury, Altrincham, East Didsbury and the Airport.

By train: While Piccadilly is the city’s largest train station, plenty of trains do pass through Manchester Victoria. You can plan your journey through the National Rail website .

Parking: The postcode if you’re driving to the AO Arena is M3 1AR. There’s an on-site CitiPark car park with 958 spaces, which can be pre-booked here . Bear in mind that Trinity Way is closed after concerts to allow gig-goers to leave safely, though cars are allowed out of the car park with direction from staff.

About the AO Arena

The AO Arena has a few strict policies to keep gig-goers safe, so make sure to check entry requirements carefully before you travel.

For example, only one small bag per person is allowed, and bags like backpacks, travel cases and laptop bags are not permitted inside the arena.

All bags are scanned on entry to check for prohibited items like laser pens, flares, projectiles, weapons, drugs and alcohol, and even selfie sticks.

Fans fume as 'In Demand' Oasis tickets appear for £355

A new ‘In Demand’ ticket type has suddenly appeared in the ongoing scramble for the Oasis reunion tour.

Fans are voicing their frustrations after making it through almost four-hour-long queues to find that tickets are HUNDREDS of pounds more expensive than advertised.

Oasis tickets were supposed to cost £148.50 for their Manchester shows, but the new ‘In Demand’ tickets are £355.20.

This is what Ticketmaster says about In Demand tickets: “Promoters and artists set ticket prices. Prices can be either fixed or market-based. Market-based tickets are labelled as ‘Platinum’ or ‘In Demand’.”

It basically means that the huge demand for Oasis tickets has lead to some of them being sold at higher, dynamic prices, much like the way flights and hotels get more expensive when demand is higher.

These In Demand tickets for Oasis do not include any extra package details – they are the same general admission tickets as all the others.

Fans are absolutely stunned at the development after Oasis made a huge point of not allowing tickets to be listed on resale platforms for anything more than face value.

One person posted: “How the f*ck is this even allowed??? You said standing was £150 and upped them to £356 and called them ‘in demand’ you bunch of robbing f*ckers”

How the fuck is this even allowed??? You said standing was £150 and upped them to £356 and called them ‘in demand’ you bunch of robbing fuckers @TicketmasterUK #ticketmasteruk #ticketmaster #oasis pic.twitter.com/RQgyJBXOYc — EJT (@Elana9211) August 31, 2024

Another wrote: “‘In demand standing ticket’ is just a standard standing ticket except double the price. No difference between Ticketmaster and touts.”

Someone else said: “That feeling when you wait in a queue for four hours only to be told the price of the ticket has risen from £148 to… £355??? Because they’re ‘in demand’. How is this not illegal?”

One person posted: “putting prices up from £148 to £350 for Heaton park as “in demand standing”… as opposed to what?!? There’s no other choice it’s a f*cking field”

Another said: “Well there’s 4 hours of my life I’ll never get back! Get to the front of the queue to find “In Demand standing tickets” are only available at £355. For that price I’d want to be on stage playing guitar and singing Wonderwall myself.”

Elton John

As part of his goodbye tour, Elton played a number of outdoor and stadium shows in Summer 2022, including memorable dates at London's Hyde Park and at Watford FC's football stadium Vicarage Road.

“I simply had to play Vicarage Road a final time as part of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. My relationship with the club, with the fans, the players and the staff over the years have meant the world to me," Elton said.

"Through the good times and the bad, Watford have been a huge part of my life. I love the club so dearly, and have had some of the best days of my life in those stands – these shows are going to be so incredibly emotional, and to spend them surrounded by my fellow Watford fans will be wonderful.

"We’ve been on quite the journey together. Come on you ‘Orns!”

Elton John

On the tour, Elton is playing a long list of his greatest ever hits, from 'Your Song' to 'Candle in the Wind' to 'Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting'.

The tour has already had rave reviews from fans and critics, and Sir Elton will carry on where he left off before the coronavirus pandemic, in 2021.

Back in January 2018, Elton John revealed that he will retire from live performance after this epic last tour

Elton previously announced the tour at an event in New York’s Gotham Hall, saying: "My life has changed, my priorities have changed and my priority now is my family."

Elton John preformed to over 6 million fans across 330 shows in his farewell tour.

With glitz, glam and golden confetti, Elton John performed on tour for the last time on Saturday.

The final concert was set in Stockholm, Sweden. It wrapped up the British singer's "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, which spanned over five years, 330 shows and 16 Gucci suits. The tour is considered the highest-grossing in Billboard Boxscore history. Last month, it became the first tour ever to make more than $900 million.

"What a journey this tour has been and now we find ourselves at the end of it," John wrote on Instagram before the show.

The show included several of John's signature songs, including Tiny Dancer, Rocket Man and Candle in the Wind.

In heart-shaped pink sunglasses, he thanked his fans for their support throughout the decades.

"You have no idea what it means to me, your kindness. I've had the most wonderful career," he said. "How lucky am I to play music. But I wouldn't be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn't for you."

The worldwide, farewell tour kicked off in 2018, but was forced to pause in 2020 for nearly two-years due to the pandemic. Last month, the 76-year-old gave his final U.K. performance while headlining the Glastonbury Festival.

In 2021, the international pop star told NPR that he looked forward to retiring from tour so that he could spend more time with his children.

In 'Me,' Elton John Pulls Back The Curtain On A Storied Life

Author Interviews

In 'me,' elton john pulls back the curtain on a storied life.

"Ten years ago, I was going to just tour and make records. And I had nothing planned for the rest of my life except making music and touring," John said. "And then we had two fabulous little boys. And then David, my husband, said, well, what do you want out of life now? Do you still want to tour? I said, no, I don't."

He later said, "As much as I love playing, I want to be with my boys now. I want to be there for them."

Speaking of the UK dates Elton John says “The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will take us to many places that have meant a lot to me over the last fifty years, but these UK shows will be incredibly special. The UK is home, and where my heart will always be. To celebrate some of the incredible moments we’ve shared with my British fans over the years will be wonderful. These homecoming shows will be very emotional, and a lot of fun.”

Kicking off in the U.S. in September, the ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour has already been greeted with a wealth of praise from critics and fans alike. The three-year tour will consist of more than 300 shows across five continents, hitting North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Australasia before reaching its conclusion in 2021. By the end of this week, over half a million fans will already have witnessed the tour. These dates mark the superstar’s last-ever tour and the end of half a century on the road for one of pop culture’s most enduring performers, who was recently named as the most successful male solo artist in Billboard Hot 100 chart history, having logged 67 entries, including nine No. 1s and 27 Top 10s. Elton’s new stage production will take his fans on a musical and highly visual journey spanning a 50-year career of hits like no one has ever seen before.

Watch Elton John begin UK leg of Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Norwich

"I want to thank you for all the memories," John told the crowd

Elton John began the UK leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in Norwich last night (June 15) – check out fan-shot footage and the full setlist below.

The pop legend announced the first UK dates for his final ever run of shows in 2018, stating then that he wanted to spend more time at home with his two young children.

However, the Australian leg of the tour was brought to a sudden halt in March 2020 due to the COVID pandemic. The stint eventually resumed in New Orleans, Louisiana this January  almost two years on from John’s previous live appearance.

After recently wrapping a string of European concerts, the singer has now made his UK live return. He played the Carrow Road stadium in Norwich yesterday (June 15), delivering a 23-song set and kicking off the night with ‘Bennie And The Jets’.

Elsewhere at the gig fans were treated to classics ‘Tiny Dancer’, ‘Rocket Man’, ‘I’m Still Standing’, ‘Crocodile Rock’, and the main set closer ‘Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting’.

John then delivered a three-song encore that consisted of ‘Cold Heart’ (his hit collaboration with Dua Lipa from his latest album ‘The Lockdown Sessions’ ), ‘Your Song’ and ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’.

“Tonight is the 229th show on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. We have about 103 shows to do,” John told the audience at one point (via the BBC ). “It’s been quite a journey and it all ends next July.

“But I want to thank you because I won’t be playing here again. I want to thank you for all the memories, all the love you’ve sent me, all the loyalty, the kindness, the letters, the dressing up, the costumes, the multiple shows you’ve been to.”

He added: “It means the world to me and I will never forget you guys.”

You can see a selection of fan-shot videos and images from last night’s concert below.

John is scheduled to perform in Liverpool tomorrow night (June 17), with further dates in Sunderland (19), Bristol (22, 26), Swansea (29), Cork (July 1) and Watford (3).

Next Friday (June 24) John headlines the BST Hyde Park series in London . Support acts include Rina Sawayama ,  BERWYN and Let’s Eat Grandma .

John had been set to play a run of rescheduled UK headline dates between October and December 2021. However, he was forced to postpone those gigs to 2023 after sustaining a hip injury from an “awkward” fall.

Speaking to NME as part of  his Big Read cover interview last October , John explained that he was determined to finish the tour but confirmed that it will also certainly be his last.

“It’s something I wanna finish,” he told NME . “I’m looking forward to doing it and going out on the high that we were on – we were an express train that hit the buffers. At the moment I finish supposedly in 2023, in the summer, by which time I’ll be 76 – and that’s it, baby.”

Sir Elton John praises ‘home crowd’ fans as he kicks off final London shows

elton john farewell tour support act uk

Sir Elton John hailed his “home crowd” fans as he kicked off his final series of shows in London .

The 75-year-old singer-songwriter is performing 10 shows at London’s O2 arena as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

A few hours before the show, Sir Elton took to Instagram to praise his fans.

“Liverpool, Birmingham, Dublin, Belfast…you were spectacular!” he wrote.

“Can not wait to kick the London shows off tonight, nothing beats a home crowd!!”

Taking to the stage in front of a 20,000-strong crowd, Sir Elton was wearing a glittery black tailcoat jacket and signature bejewelled glasses – and opened the show with Bennie And The Jets.

He is set to play eight more shows at the O2 in April and a further one in May before taking the tour to Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Aberdeen and Glasgow.

His North American leg of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour was filled with pyrotechnics, spectacular visuals and several guest appearances including Dua Lipa.

The veteran pop star’s final ever gig in the UK will take place on June 25 when he will headline the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival in Somerset.

Earlier this week, Sir Elton led the tributes to Paul O’Grady after his death aged 67.

Sharing a picture of himself and O’Grady in character as his drag queen persona Lily Savage, Sir Elton wrote: “A brilliant entertainer, wit, and supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and the fight against Aids and HIV who I was fortunate enough to spend time with including when he hosted @davidfurnish’s and my Stag Party before our Civil Partnership in 2005.

“Thank you for all the joy you brought into the world, Paul. You went places nobody had gone before and we will miss you very much.”

Sir Elton has also made headlines this week as he and several other high profile people made High Court claims against the publisher of the Daily Mail.

Seven people, including Sir Elton, his husband David Furnish , the Duke of Sussex, Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon, Sadie Frost, Liz Hurley and Sir Simon Hughes, are bringing legal action against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) over denied allegations it carried out or commissioned unlawful information-gathering.

ANL, which “firmly” denies the allegations, has asked a judge to rule in its favour without a trial, arguing the legal challenges against it were brought “far too late”.

At the end of a four-day hearing at the High Court in London, Mr Justice Nicklin said he will give his decision in writing at a later date.

The British pop-icon will be performing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road show on June 13 and 15.

Elton John was the first-ever act announced for The P&J Live when it opened in 2019, and now – four years on – the time has finally come…

The icon is bringing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to Aberdeen next week.

Rocking 330 concerts across five continents, the show is Sir Elton’s final sign off to worldwide touring.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the show, which was delayed by the pandemic and again after Sir Elton fell and required surgery for hip problems.

Now they are gearing up for an unforgettable night of dazzling entertainment as Sir Elton performs some of his greatest hits.

Here’s everything you need to know about the P&J Live shows.

When and where will Elton John perform in Aberdeen?

Elton John will be performing at P&J Live on June 13 and June 15 .

Doors open at 6pm, he will be on stage at 7.30pm and the show ends at 10.15pm. There is no support act or interval.

However, the venue is urging people to allow for plenty of time to get there as there are ongoing roadworks on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie road, west of Aberdeen Airport .

Tickets are still available on Ticketmaster.

What songs will Elton John perform at P&J Live?

Since launching his first tour in 1970, the star has performed more than 4,000 times in more than 80 countries.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour is the highest-grossing tour of all time, according to Billboard.

Production values are high, with the latest technology used to tell Elton’s life story and music over the years.

Watch a behind the scenes video for a sneak peak of what to expect at Elton John’s Aberdeen show.

So far the show is scheduled to bring 18,000 people to the venue across both nights – with a maximum capacity of 20,000.

There is no official set list, but previous shows have featured around 22 of Elton’s biggest hits – finishing with Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.

Will there be any selfie spots at the venue?

P&J Live has organised for a wrapped piano to be placed in the main concourse or in the main plaza – designed to be the perfect spot to pose for photos.

There will also be a video wall and vinyl that looks like a piano keys on the premium staircase.

Are there any restrictions?

Under 14s must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.

For everyone’s safety, large bags, backpacks of any kind and umbrellas are not permitted into the venue.

How do I get the bus from Aberdeen to see Elton John at P&J Live?

Stagecoach will be operating its 727 Service between Union Square and P&J Live, running every 15-30 minutes. View the timetable on the Stagecoach website.

The PJ1 bus service will also be in operation, departing Union Square at 5.50pm and then every 20 minutes until 7.30pm.

View of the main arena at P&J Live.

Additional buses will depart from Craibstone Park and Ride to the venue on the dedicated PJ4 from 6.15pm.

Buses will depart back into Aberdeen city centre after the event is finished. These will depart from the front of the taxi tank.

Will food and drink be available at the venue?

All P&J Live bars, kiosks and The Mill Coffee Shop will be in operation.

P&J Live is a cashless venue.

Sir Elton John has told the thousands of adoring fans in Sweden that he “better make it a good show” as kicked off the final date of his mammoth farewell tour.

The 76-year-old musical megastar has been travelling around the globe performing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road show since 2018, and his second night at the Tele2 Arena in Stockholm on Saturday will finally bring the 330-date run to a close.

In classic spectacular fashion, The Rocket Man singer donned a black suit jacket with colourful beading on the lapel as he took to the stage to open with his hit Bennie And The Jets, which first appeared on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album in 1973.

After a rousing rendition of Philadelphia Freedom, he riled up the audience by waving and said: “Good evening Stockholm. Well this is it.

“This is it. I’m very glad to be in Sweden and this beautiful country… We better make it a good show. Here we go.”

He then launched into I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.

The veteran musician dedicated the next track on his set list – Border Song – to the late Aretha Franklin.

He recalled to the masses that when his self-titled second album came out in 1970, that he and his long-term songwriting partner Bernie Taupin “could not believe our luck” when she covered the song.

Sir Elton said that he went on to meet and record with the soul singer and that she insisted on performing for his Aids Foundation six months before she died in 2018, despite being ill.

After the poignant anecdote, he dedicated the song “to the legacy of the queen of soul”.

He followed it up with a vibrant performance of his hit song Tiny Dancer, Have Mercy On The Criminal and his classic Rocket Man – the song that lent its name to his biopic, with Taron Egerton playing the singer.

The tour was paused at various points due to the pandemic and shows in Europe and the UK had to be rescheduled due to the veteran singer sustaining an injury to his hip after he suffered a fall in 2021.

The Stockholm show marks the end of Sir Elton’s touring career after around 50 years on the road which has included more than 4,000 performances in over 80 countries since launching his first tour in 1970.

It is also one of the highest-grossing concert tours since records began with Billboard reporting that it is the first to do 900 million US dollars (£701 million) worth of ticket sales, with Sir Elton saying more than six million people have come to watch him.

Announcing the end of his touring five years ago, Sir Elton said his “priorities have changed”, adding that his and husband David Furnish’s two sons, Elijah and Zachary, had changed their lives.

He vowed not to do a “Cher”, adding: “This is the end”.

The musician is expected to continue working on making music after releasing his collaborations with Dua Lipa, Stevie Wonder, Britney Spears and Sheeran as part of his The Lockdown Sessions releases in 2022.

Sir Elton, a five-time Grammy winning artist, has also contributed to the music of Billy Elliot the Musical, Gnomeo & Juliet, The Lion King and most recently Rocketman.

Oasis Reunion: Who’s Likely to Support Band on Their 2025 Tour?

Early top picks for support acts include blossoms, fontaines d.c., young fathers, sam fender, and kasabian.

Oasis

Simon Emmett

With Oasis officially reuniting for a massive run of shows , fans are already buzzing about who could join them on their 2025 UK and Ireland tour.

After years of rumours, Liam Gallagher gave us a teaser at his Reading Festival 2024 set on August 25th, and the news was then confirmed with a social media post yesterday (August 27th).

The ‘OASIS LIVE 25’ tour will feature 14 stadium dates across Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh, and Dublin, with whispers of international dates to follow next year – though the details are still under wraps.

Tickets to the UK and Ireland shows go on sale this Saturday, August 31st at 8am in Ireland and 9am in the UK.

So, who might be joining Oasis at the shows?

English indie rock band Blossoms are a strong contender. Over the weekend at Wythenshawe Park, they flashed the same teaser as Liam and Noel Gallagher during their headline set , sparking speculation. They even covered Oasis’ “Half the World Away” and have a history with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. As one of the biggest bands from Greater Manchester right now, Blossoms have three number one albums to their name and their fourth, Gary , drops next month.

This appeared after the Blossoms show tonight 👀 It’s actually happening! pic.twitter.com/58NoeyVFwI — Mainly Oasis (@mainlyoasis) August 25, 2024

Then there’s Kasabian, with the band’s Serge Pizzorno being  seen with Liam backstage at Reading . Plus, former Kasabian guitarist Jay Mehler joined Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye back in 2013.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Paul Arthurs (@boneheadspage)

Fontaines D.C. are also a fan favourite. The Dublin-raised, London-based post-punk band have impressed with their expansive new album Romance , and their recent festival slots at Glastonbury and Reading have showed they can handle stadium-sized crowds.

It would be great to see some female talent on the bill, someone like The Last Dinner Party .  The London band won the Rising Star Brit Award and BBC Sound of 2024, and their debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy , hit number one in the UK in February. With their “art-rock bombast” and comparisons to Bowie and Queen, their sound might be a fresh twist on the classic Oasis vibe.

Fans are also calling for newer acts like Sam Fender to join the bill. Sir Elton John has praised Fender as the “best rock and roll artist there is,” saying he makes Oasis sound like a “calm palm trio.” Fender has covered Oasis’ “Morning Glory” live and has also supported The Killers – could he be a wildcard for the tour?

oasis support prediction ALL DATES: Blossoms CARDIFF: The Lottery Winners Madness LONDON: Ian Brown Catfish & The Bottlemen MANCHESTER: Villanelle Kasabian EDINBURGH: Richard Ashcroft Sam Fender DUBLIN: Courting Fontaines DC — wint≅r!!!!!! (@winterisontwt) August 27, 2024
IF this were true it has the potential to be a massive day out but wont be. The place will be half empty until Oasis come on and the support always lack the same sound quality and staging of the main act. Surely it can’t cost that more given the amount they make from these gigs. https://t.co/d2BFPHEz69 — Mr P (@Parksie) August 26, 2024
The AMOUNT of people asking if we’re supporting Oasis today is MAD. Literally my phone hasn’t stopped all day. Glad that people think we’re at that level. We’re not (yet), but we’d be up for a little opening slot @SJMConcerts … 😂 — Lottery Winners (@LotteryWinners) August 26, 2024
