Cast Member Discounts for Disney Employees 2024

Cast Member Discounts for Disney Employees 2024

Disney Company Employees, formerly known as Cast Members, are the people that make the magic at Disney World and Disneyland possible.

To show appreciation for their hard work, Disney offers a large variety of Disney cast member discounts that can be used for merchandise, dining, park stays, plus other benefits.

I think at one point many Disney lovers dream of being a Disney employee, whether that is working as a friend of a character, helping hotel guests at the resorts, or working in merchandising, it seems like being a Cast Member is a dream come true. While only a few people actually achieve this dream, there are many perks to being employed by the Walt Disney Company.

Get exclusive access to prices on hotel & tickets just for Mickey Visit subscribers. Don't miss our travel hacks newsletter!

Disney Cast Member Discounts

Like many jobs, working as a Walt Disney Employee, also known as Cast Member, comes with its share of benefits. Benefits listed on Disney’s Career Website include:

  • Paid Time Off
  • Health Insurance
  • Retirement Programs
  • Tuition Assistance
  • Wellness Programs
  • Childcare Support
  • Career Development
  • Theme Park Experiences
  • Exclusive Discounts
  • Community Involvement
  • Commuter Assistance

With so many benefits, it is easy to see why there are so many people aching to get a job working for the Walt Disney Company. While many of the benefits are standard for many full-time jobs across the United States, like health insurance and retirement programs, we think what sets Disney apart is the Experiences and Discounts Cast Members receive.

Disney provides exclusive discounts at select hotels, dining, merchandise, and recreation locations. They also provide complimentary theme park admission for full-time and part-time positions after two weeks of employment.

Below are lists of the specific locations and discount amounts that Cast Members have available when working for the Walt Disney Company.

  • Discount Walt Disney World Tickets

Our favorite Disney-approved re-seller,  Get Away Today, offers the best Walt Disney World discount tickets around. In addition to great discount prices, their customer service and easy support is absolutely fantastic. Find discount Walt Disney World tickets here!

Buying tickets from Get Away Today is easy and convenient since all their tickets are sent electronically. You can take their vouchers and head straight to the gate without needing to wait in any ticket booth lines. They also offer layaway plans so you can pay off your vacation over time.

Cast Member Discount Merchandise

While Cast Members are working at the theme parks, resorts, Downtown Disney or Disney Springs , you have to imagine there is a piece of merchandise they will see brought in they just can’t wait to have. Luckily, Disney provides a small discount at the majority of the shopping locations throughout Disney Property.

The merchandise discount you get as a Cast Member depends entirely on your years of service. If you’ve got a Blue Pass (less than 15 years of service), you get 20% off. If you earn the Silver Pass (over 15 years of service), it shifts up to 35% off.

These percentages can be used at Disney-owned/operated stores

  • All Magic Kingdom shops (only 10% at Sunglasses shop)
  • All stores at EPCOT (discount varies by store, but a majority follow the 20% cast discount)
  • All stores at Animal Kingdom
  • All stores in Hollywood Studios
  • ShopDisney app or website

Shops and kiosks at Disney Springs and Downtown Disney offer discounts ranging from 10%-35% off.

Cast Member Discounts

Cast Members also have access to the Cast Connections store. This store is ONLY for Cast Members, so if you don’t work for Disney, you won’t be able to purchase merchandise from here. The merchandise at Cast Connection at Walt Disney World includes out-of-season or discontinued new merchandise, holiday merchandise, slightly damaged merchandise from the Parks (wrinkled/stained clothing), and some groceries. Merchandise can be seen for up to 70% off retail price.

Company D is a cast member-exclusive store that sells cast member-exclusive merchandise and discounted tickets (10% off day tickets, multi-day tickets, and annual passes) as well as tickets to local sporting teams.

Cast Member Dining Discounts

When Cast Members go to the theme parks either by themselves or with their friends and family, they will have to eat! Disney offers 10-20% discounts throughout most of the year on many dining locations on Disney Property. This includes the parks, resorts, and at Disney Springs.

Last year, the following restaurants were included in the discounts:

  • Disney’s All-Star Resort – Intermission Food Court and World Premier Food Court
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Boma, Jiko, The Mara, Sanaa
  • Disney’s Art of Animation – Landscape of Flavors
  • Disney’s Boardwalk – Boardwalk Bakery, Boardwalk Pizza Window, Trattoria al Forno
  • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort – Centertown Market and Sebastian’s Bistro
  • Disney’s Contemporary Resort – Chef Mickey’s, Contempo Café, Steakhouse 71
  • Disney’s Coronado Resort – Barcelona Lounge, Three Bridges Bar and Grill, Toledo
  • Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – Crockett’s Tavern, P&J’s Southern Takeout, Trail’s End
  • Disney’s Grand Floridian – 1900 Park Fare, Citricos, Grand Floridian Café, Gasparilla Island Grill
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort – Good’s Food to Go, Olivia’s Café
  • Disney’s Polynesian Resort – Captain Cook’s, Kona Café, Ohana
  • Pop Century – Everything POP Shopping and Dining
  • Port Orleans Resort – Boatwright's Dining Hall, River Roost Lounge, Riverside Mill Food Court, Sassagoula Flatworms and
  • Food Factory, Scat Cat’s Club Café
  • Saratoga Springs – The Artist’s Palette, The Turf Club Bar and Grill
  • Disney’s Vero Beach Resort – Wind and Waves Market, Wind and Waves Grill
  • Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club – Ale and Compass, Beach Club Marketplace, Cape May Café, The Market at Ale and
  • Compass, Martha’s Vineyard, Yachtsman Steakhouse
  • Magic Kingdom – The Crystal Palace, Jungle Skipper Canteen, Liberty Tree Tavern, Plaza Restaurant, Tony’s Town Square
  • EPCOT – Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, Biergarten Restaurant, Coral Reef Restaurant, The Garden Grill, Le Cellier Steakhouse, Rose and Crown
  • Hollywood Studios – Hollywood and Vine, 50s Prime Time Café, The Hollywood Brown Derby, Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano
  • Animal Kingdom – Flame Tree Barbecue, Harambe Market, Nomad Lounge, Restaurantosaurus, Tusker House, Tiffins

During certain times of the year, Disney will offer a steeper discount at the quick service locations or during slower times of the year table service locations. Disney will provide Cast Members with the information when new discounts are available.

As an example, from May 8 – September 30, 2023, Cast Members are able to enjoy a 40% dining discount at these six table-service restaurants during “select meal periods.”

  • Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort: Toledo – Tapas, Steak & Seafood
  • Disney’s Old Key West Resort: Olivia’s Café
  • Disney’s Port Orleans Resort: Boatwright’s Dining Hall
  • Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa: The Turf Club Bar and Grill
  • Disney’s Wilderness Lodge: Whispering Canyon Café
  • Disney’s Yacht Club Resort: Ale & Compass Restaurant

The downside for Cast Members is these dining locations and discounts are subject to blackout dates and meal times, so it never hurts to ask when you go to the restaurant to eat if there are any Cast Member discounts available.

Cast Member Hotel Discounts

Even though most Cast Members are going to live around the Walt Disney property, there are still times when it makes sense to stay at a Disney World hotel . For instance, if a Cast Member works at Disneyland but visits Walt Disney World, they would be able to use the discounts on the rooms.

When the Cast Member is staying in the room booked, they can receive up to 50% off their stay at different resorts and room types. During peak seasons, it may be difficult to book the exact room you want, but there are still typically discounts available.

If a Cast Member has friends or family coming to stay on-site but is not planning on staying at the resort with them, Cast Members can still get up to 40% for their friends and family.

Cast Members can also receive up to 50% off at Aulani in Hawaii.

Cast Member Theme Park Tickets

After two weeks of employment, Cast Members receive complimentary park tickets to use on their days off.

When a Cast Member has worked for Disney for at least 90 days, they will get a Main Gate Pass. This pass allows Cast Members three guests at a time using their Main Gate Pass, but the amount of times you can use this pass in a year varies.

Disney Employees who have worked at Disney less than 15 years will receive a Blue Main Gate Pass and can use the pass 16 times a year. If a Cast Member has over 15 years, they receive a Silver Main Gate Pass. With this pass, there is no limit on how many times you can get friends and family into the park.

There are block-out dates with the Main Gate Passes, and you do need a reservation to use them. It is important to check the block-out dates (days you can’t use your pass) before making any plans.

If you want to take family or friends with you, and don’t have the Main Gate Pass or have used the allotted amount, the following discounts are available.

Cast Members can get discounted park tickets for your guests from any Company D location. This is a perfect option for anyone who doesn’t have (or want to use) any guest passes.

  • 10% off any Disney World tickets from Company D (merchandise location mentioned above)
  • Discounted tickets for SeaWorld and Busch Gardens only at Company D

Disney World Water Parks

Florida Cast Members get admission to both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach during non-peak seasons and 50% off additional tickets for up to 3 guests.

During Peak Seasons, Cast Members may enter after 2 PM or buy discounted tickets for the entire day.

Halloween and Christmas

As a Cast Member, discounted tickets to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World are also available.

During the Christmas Season, Disney gives their Employees Holiday books with different discounts and free items. These are some of the best deals Disney Cast Members receive throughout the year!

Castaway Club Benefits – A Complete Guide For 2024

Sharing is caring!

What are the Castaway Club Benefits for repeat Disney Cruisers? Once you have sailed on a Disney Cruise you automatically become a member of the Castaway Club.

But what does this mean and what perks do Castaway Club members have?

And scroll down to see information about the new tier.

Disney Castaway Club Levels

Castaway Club Benefits

The Castaway Club is the Disney Cruise Line loyalty club.

There are four Disney Castaway Club Levels of membership:

  • Silver – Begins after your first completed cruise
  • Gold – Begins after your fifth completed cruise
  • Platinum – Begins after your tenth completed cruise.
  • Pearl – Begins after your twenty-fifth completed cruise.

Termination of Benefits

This one shows you that you really must read the fine print.

I usually do. My legal training means that I often really do read all the terms and conditions! However, I admit I did not read the Castaway Club members rules.

To remain in the program, Castaway Club Members must book or sail on at least one eligible cruise within 5 years of their last Disney voyage.

DCL made this major change to their Castaway Club eligibility back in March 2023. This change only came to light for the majority of Disney cruisers when the FAQ section of the DCL website was changed.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

If you read the terms and conditions they have a wide open discretion:

“Membership in the Program will automatically terminate without notice if Member does not book or complete an eligible DCL cruise within the “Activity Period.” The Activity Period shall mean the five (5) year period after debarkation day of the Member’s last eligible DCL Cruise. However, DCL may (but is not required to) extend the Activity Period and/or continue making Program Benefits available to Member if Member does not book or complete an eligible DCL cruise within their Activity Period; such decisions shall be in DCL’s sole discretion”.

So what does that mean?

It means that DCL has left it open to change this requirement. Again, not sure why they added this as they can’t change the rules at any time without notice. And it seems they just have – or that they did in March 2023 and no one actually noticed!

New – Pearl Level of Membership

For 2023 there is a new level of Castaway Club membership.

Beginning on May 1, 2023, if you have sailed 25 Disney Cruises you will be awarded the new level of membership – Pearl.

This level introduces a very valuable perk – a complimentary Unlimited Photo Package.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

DCL also announced that there will be new Welcome Back Aboard gifts for all levels.

For anyone who has so many of those sling backpacks and luggage labels they don’t know what to do with them, this is good news.

No announcement yet on what the gifts for other levels will be, but Pearl will find these drinking tumblers in their stateroom.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Note that you move up a level after you have completed your first, fifth, tenth, and twenty-fifth Disney Cruise.

In other words, if you are sailing on your 10th cruise, you are still at Gold Castaway Club level. When you sail again on a Disney Ship you will move up to Platinum Level.

What are the advantages of moving up the levels?

There are 2 types of benefits – those before you sail and those during your sailing.

disney cruise florida discount

How to Pack Like a Cruise Travel Expert

Castaway Cay Club Benefits – At Home

disney cruise Castaway Club Benefits

Perhaps the most valuable of the Castaway Club perks are these first two.

Early booking for the actual cruise itself and early booking for activities once you are actually booked on the cruise.

Disney Cruise Early Itinerary Booking

disney cruise Castaway Club Benefits FAQ

Disney Cruise Itineraries are usually released just three times a year.

As there are five Disney ships right now (soon to be seven with the Disney Treasure and the as yet renamed Global Dream that Disney purchased ) the competition for cruises, particularly certain sailings, can be fierce.

For instance, the Disney Magic European cruises tend to sell out in days and the Disney Cruises to Hawaii sell out extremely quickly.

Also, usually, the prices for Disney Cruises tend to go up over time .

As a general rule, the cost on the first day of release is the lowest you will see it.

We have been following Disney Cruise price changes for some time now and it is interesting how much prices change.

You can see here our Disney Cruise Wish Prices Guide and Disney Cruise Alaska Cost to see how prices change and usually increase.

Of course, there are exceptions to this, and military and Florida resident discounts are offered (usually for the Disney Dream).

However, unlike some other cruise lines that discount unsold staterooms closer to the time of sailing, Disney tends not to have a lot of unsold staterooms – so very few discounts.

So it is a very definite perk that once the new Disney Cruise sailings are released, all Castaway Cay members can book them earlier than the general public.

This is usually the pattern for the release of sailings for Castaway Club Members.

  • Silver Castaway – 1 day prior to sailings being released to the general public
  • Gold Castaway – 2 days prior to sailings being released to the general public
  • Platinum Castaway – 3 days prior to sailings being released to the general public
  • Pearl Castaway – 4 days prior to sailings being released to the general public

Disney Cruise Early Activities Booking

disneycruisepalo

Another one of the major Castaway Club benefits is being able to book activities on board the ship earlier than non-members.

Some activities are extremely popular and get booked very quickly.

For example beverage tastings, Frozen Meet and Greet, Palo Brunch or Dinner, and the notoriously difficult-to-get Castaway Cay Cabana reservations.

I know that people do get very concerned that they have not been able to book certain activities online prior to their Disney Cruise.

However, don’t despair!

Often, there are still spots available once you board the ship as not all activities are released prior to sailing . The best example of this is Palo Brunch .

Every sailing, guests are concerned prior to boarding that they haven’t been able to get a reservation for Palo, particularly brunch.

disneypalobrunch

However, not all of the available reservations for Palo are available online prior to boarding – they always hold some back.

So when you board the ship, always check to see if Palo or whatever other activity was “sold out” online is available. You can do this at guest services, or by going to the designated place where the dining room team will be there to help you.

Here are the priority dates for online reservations according to which level of Disney Cruise Castaway Cay member you are.

  • First-time Guest – 75 days prior to the sail date
  • Silver Castaway – 90 days prior to the sail date
  • Gold Castaway – 105 days prior to the sail date
  • Platinum Castaway – 120 days prior to the sail date
  • Pearl Castaway – 123 days prior to the sail date

Concierge guests always had priority over Platinum as they could request reservations and activities 5 days prior to Platinum members.

I assume that now Concierge will be 5 days prior to Pearl members.

The activities are released on the same day, but in reality, Concierge will have priority over Platinum.

So, if you want to book a Castaway Cay Cabana you really need to sail concierge to maximize your chances.

Disney Cruise Port Arrival Time

disneycruiseupgradeatport

Another great perk for Gold and Platinum Castaway Club members is Early Access to Select Port Arrival Times .

When you check in online you are allocated a port arrival time. If you are a Gold Castaway Club member you can select your port arrival time online.

This is subject to availability – the earlier times may all have been allocated, so you may still get a late boarding group.

It used to be that Platinum Members had the excellent perk of automatically being allocated the earliest Port Arrival time and having a Group 3 boarding group.

Now you have to be Pearl to enjoy early boarding times automatically. Pearl Members do not need a port arrival time. They can arrive at the port and go into the terminal as soon as it is open. They will be allocated an early boarding group.

disneycruisesandiegoport

Here is a Complete Guide To Embarkation on a Disney Cruise so you can see how the boarding process works and what to do on your first day.

At the port, Castaway Cay members will also have a dedicated check-in line. This is a nice perk as the lines are usually quite a bit shorter than the general line.

Platinum Members have the same line as Concierge, so this usually goes pretty quickly.

It remains to be seen if Pearl will replace Platinum or if they will have their own separate line.

Castaway Club Disney Cruise Phone Number

disneycruisecastaway cayclub

The final pre-cruise benefit of being a member of the Disney Cruise Castaway Club is the dedicated helpline 1-800-449-3380.

Disney Castaway Club Benefits Onboard

disneycruisecastawaycayclubgift

Castaway Club members also have benefits available once they have boarded their Disney Cruise Ship .

Every Castaway Cay Member gets a welcome back aboard gift . These gifts vary according to your membership level.

Over the years I have had some really useful gifts, although it became a little disappointing when you already have the exact same backpack and luggage label you have been given for the previous years!

Fortunately, DCL has now updated the gifts.

The last time I sailed I did get a new gift of a cool bag and a towel which was a welcome change.

Gold, Platinum and Pearl Discounts

disney cruise cancellations

Discounts in the store are a very nice perk. This is usually 10% discount on most goods in the store.

Gold Platinum and Pearl Onboard Reception

In days past they used to have these on all sailings which are 7 days or more.

However, in recent years this has been cut to just holding the reception on cruises that are 8 days or longer.

What this means is that these Castaway Club Receptions don’t happen very often anymore! Most sailings are 7 nights or less, so they don’t have a reception.

I have attended them on Panama Canal sailings and they were held around the Goofy Pool on Deck 9. There were plenty of free drinks and some nice snacks available.

The Captain and the Officers attended and you get a great opportunity to talk to them and ask any questions that you have.

Platinum and Pearl Complimentary Dinner at Palo

castaway club benefits palo free dinner

This is one of my favorite Castaway Club perks. Once you reach Platinum status you can get one complimentary dinner or brunch at Palo.

The official Castaway Disney Cruise site only mentions dinner, but I have used it for Brunch.

This is a good saving of the $45 cover charge.

Always make sure that you tip your Disney Server though – they work very hard and deserve to be rewarded.

All adults in your stateroom will also get the free Palo benefit even if they are not Platinum or Pearl members.

After 50 Cruises

Disney Cruises has added an additional benefit for those who have sailed 50 cruises and more.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Now Pearl Members who have completed 50 or more sailings will also be given the opportunity to display their family (last) name at Disney Castaway Cay.

This is a limited-time offering, and some restrictions apply. It will certainly be interesting to see how many names are displayed!

Disney Cruise Castaway Club Questions

disneycruisecastawaycayclubbenefits

  • How do you access your Castaway Club account?

There is a dedicated site at Disney Cruise Castaway Club where you can log in with your Disney account. This shows you a summary of all the benefits, which cruises you have sailed on, and which membership level you have reached.

  • If I am at Castaway Cay Platinum level, but my partner in the same stateroom is only Gold, will we both get a complimentary Palo Dinner ?

Yes. A Castaway Cay membership is personal to the individual and is not transferable, but the exception is that every adult in a stateroom with a Platinum Member will receive a complimentary meal.

  • I am a Castaway Cay Pearl member so I can board the ship early, shortly after concierge. Can my partner, who is only Gold, board with me?

In that situation, you can board with your partner even though they do not have Platinum status.

Which Disney Cruise Castaway Club Benefits do you enjoy most?

Should Disney Up Their Game?

Whilst the perks of the Castaway Club are nice to have, it really isn’t until you reach Platinum Level that you get any kind of benefit, which is the free Palo Brunch or Dinner.

Disney does not compare favourably to other cruise line loyalty programs.

Let’s look at the Princess Cruises Loyalty Program

There are four tiers to the Captain’s Circle program where there are 4 levels. Princess uses a system of the amount of cruises, or cruise days. Disney just uses number of cruises.

  • Gold  (after your first completed cruise)
  • Ruby  (from your fourth cruise credit, or 31 to 50 cruise days)
  • Platinum  (from your sixth to 15th cruise credit, or 51 to 150 cruise days)
  • Elite  (from your 16th cruise credit on, or 151-plus cruise days)

I have Elite Status with Princess Cruises and the benefits are far in excess of those offered by Disney for Pearl Members. You will get Elite Status after 15 cruises with Princess, but you need to sail 25 cruises with Disney to get your Pearl status.

Here are the Captain’s Circle Elite Benefits:

Gold Tier Benefits

  • Invitations to members-only onboard events
  • Access to a Captain’s Circle onboard host
  • A members-only magazine
  • A recognition pin
  • Captain’s Circle Launch Savings discounts on cruises
  • Preferential Pricing Offers

So you will see that you only have to sail on one cruise with Princess to get discounts on future cruises.

Ruby Tier Benefits

  • An upgrade to Princess’ Platinum Vacation Protection plan when you purchase their insurance

Platinum Benefits

  • Priority boarding
  • 50% off MedallionNet internet packages
  • 10% off spa treatments
  • 10% off photos taken by ship photographers
  • Early access to Dine My Way reservations

After just five cruises you will get the internet package discount. And the internet whenever I have sailed on Princess cruises is excellent.

Additional Elite Benefits

  • 10% discount on shore excursions
  • 10% discount at The Shops of Princess
  • An exclusive window to preview and book new itineraries
  • Priority access to ship-to-shore shuttles
  • Priority disembarkation
  • A complimentary minibar setup
  • Complimentary shoe shines and laundry
  • In-room canapes on formal nights
  • Complimentary afternoon tea in your cabin (schedule this at least six hours in advance)
  • Free admission to an onboard wine-tasting event (one per cruise)
  • An Elite member pin

There are some really excellent benefits here. You can get your laundry done for free! This is a huge perk, particularly on longer cruises. There is nothing quite like returning to your stateroom and seeing all your clothes beautifully laundered and ironed!

Priority for the tender boats is also another excellent perk.

If only DCL would add some more benefits to their loyalty program.

But somehow I really don’t think that will happen.

Sunday 28th of April 2024

What really frosts me is no matter how long (number of days) the cruise is, it only counts as one towards the next level. We have sailed both three day cruises and 10 day and they both had the same “weight “ in regard's to moving up a level. After our ninth cruise we did a 3/4 back to back to finally reach platinum. Using number of days IMHO seems to be a fairer way.

Monday 29th of April 2024

It does seem like an unfair system and I wish they would change it. I have mostly done 7 day and even 14 day cruises which only count for as much as a 3 day. Really doesn't seem like the best system to me.

Friday 22nd of December 2023

Something that has always frosted me. Disney uses number of cruises, not days cruised. IOW, a three day cruise and a ten day cruise all have the same value. We would have reached platinum so much sooner. We have recently started to cruise on RC instead of only on Disney. the loyalty program is so much easier (and cheaper) to obtain/enjoy with RC.

Friday 24th of February 2023

Hi, I noticed some outdated info in this article even tho it says published on Feb 24th, for example u mentioned there are only 4 ships on Disney fleet, so to be 5 with the addition of the Wish, except that Disney Wish is almost a year old! Thanks for the rest of the info!

Thank you for this! Sorry I missed this when I was rewriting this article this morning but have changed it to reflect this.

From the DCL website

Q. I will be sharing a stateroom with a Guest who has a different Castaway Club Membership level than I do. What Member benefits will apply to the stateroom?

A. The Castaway Club benefit level?Silver, Gold or Platinum?is determined by the Guest with the highest membership level in the stateroom. All Guests staying in the same stateroom will enjoy that member’s benefit level for the duration of the cruise.

Guests traveling with you, but staying in a different stateroom, will enjoy the benefit level of whichever member has the highest membership level in their stateroom.

Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Club loyalty program: Everything you need to know

Gene Sloan

Among the best-known cruise brands, Disney Cruise Line has one of the most modest loyalty programs — even after an upgrade that brought an all-new tier .

Unlike the programs of such cruise operators as Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean , the Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club, as it's called, doesn't offer members over-the-top perks such as a free cruise after reaching a top tier. There are no big discounts on shore excursions and spa treatments for members, like lines such as Windstar Cruises offer.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter.

Still, Disney Cruise Line's Castaway Club loyalty program does bring a few valuable perks at its higher-level tiers, including early access to new itineraries and onboard activities.

The Disney loyalty program also makes it relatively easy to reach a high-level tier.

Ways to earn

Earning status in the Castaway Club loyalty program is about as simple as can be. You get a credit for every cruise you take — whether it's three nights long or 10 nights long. That's it. No muss, no fuss. Your status, as we'll explain below, depends entirely on how many cruises you take.

Program tiers and benefits

There are just four tiers in the Castaway Club program, including a new top tier unveiled in 2023:

  • Silver (after one cruise)
  • Gold (after five cruises)
  • Platinum (after 10 cruises)
  • Pearl (after 25 cruises)

Once you reach the first tier of the program (Silver), you will be entitled to exactly six perks. Perhaps the most notable of these is the ability to book in advance for onboard cruise activities such as ticket-only character greetings and specialty restaurant dinners up to 90 days before sailings. This is a big deal in the world of Disney cruises, where some of the hottest activities on ships sell out quickly.

Related: The ultimate guide to Disney Cruise Line

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Silver members can also book new Disney cruise itineraries one day ahead of the general public. That may not seem like much of a head start, but it can be a real advantage when trying to snag the perfect cabin on a hot new itinerary. Disney fans are known to snatch up the best cabins — if not all the cabins — on unique new sailings very quickly.

In addition, Silver members get:

  • Select port arrival time and complete online check-in 33 days in advance of departure
  • Exclusive cruise terminal check-in where available
  • A members-only direct phone line to call for information and assistance
  • A welcome-back-aboard gift

Upon reaching the Gold level, members get all the above perks with three notable upgrades. For starters, they can book onboard cruise activities up to 105 days before sailings. That's 15 days earlier than Silver members. They are also able to book new Disney cruise itineraries two days ahead of the general public.

Plus, they can complete check-in 35 days in advance.

In addition, Gold members get:

  • A private reception for members
  • Special discounts on voyages

Related: 26 tips for sailing on a Disney Cruise Line ship

The third tier of the program, the Platinum level, extends the pre-booking windows even further. Platinum members are able to make advance bookings for onboard cruise activities up to 120 days before sailings. That's 15 days earlier than Gold members and 30 days earlier than Silver members. They are also able to book new Disney cruise itineraries three days ahead of the general public.

For Platinum members, check-in opens 38 days in advance of departures.

In addition, Platinum level members are entitled to a free dinner at Palo , the upscale, adults-only Italian eatery on Disney ships — more on this in a moment.

The elite level that makes a difference

It isn't really until you hit the new Pearl level of the Castaway Club that the perks start to get interesting. The big perk at this level is that you can book new itineraries earlier than everyone else. You also have the earliest possible access to reserve onboard activities.

Specifically, you can make reservations for newly announced itineraries four days before the general public. You can also book activities up to 123 days in advance of sailing.

Related: A beginners guide to cruise line loyalty programs

In the world of Disney, this is a very big deal. As mentioned above, Disney fans are known to snag all the good cabins for a popular sailing the moment a trip goes on sale. Ditto for onboard activities.

In addition, Pearl status also lets you check in for your cruise 40 days in advance of sailing.

One more perk added for Pearl members of Disney Cruise Line's Castaway Club is a complimentary unlimited digital photo package, which is a notable perk.

Disney has lots of official photographers on board its ships to snap photos of you and your kids with princesses and the like. However, it doesn't offer those photos for free. Paying for even a relatively small number of photos taken by these onboard photographers — even in digital form — normally can cost hundreds of dollars.

Best elite perk

Unlike some lines, Disney doesn't offer any truly over-the-top elite perks, such as the free cruise that top-tier members of Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor Society get . It's also skimpy on handing out big discounts on shore excursions, spa treatments and other cruise line-sold services to elite members — something some other lines do. Still, there are a few perks that get us at least modestly excited.

The most enticing offering, in our view, is the free dinner that comes with Platinum status at Palo, as noted above.

Related: The best credit cards for booking cruises

The invitation extends to the elite member and any other adult passenger staying in the same cabin. Assuming there are two of you, that's a $100 value. Palo normally costs $50 per person.

The perk can be used at either the Palo eateries found on Disney's four older ships or the Palo Steakhouse eatery on the line's new Disney Wish .

Does my Disney Castaway Club status last forever?

In a major change that took effect in early 2024, Disney Castaway Club members will no longer get "forever status" upon reaching the various tiers of the program — a notable allure of the program since its inception.

As of this year, Castaway Club members lose their Castaway Club status — and, indeed, their entire membership in the program, even at the entry level — if they don't book or complete an eligible Disney cruise at least once every five years.

As a result, if you haven't taken a Disney Cruise Line voyage in a few years, and you have high-level status in the Castaway Club that you want to preserve for the future, it might pay to book a quickie Disney voyage this year to maintain your loyalty level. Or, maybe now is the time to switch your loyalty to another family-friendly cruise brand, such as Royal Caribbean.

Bottom line

Disney Cruise Line offers a handful of decent perks to members of its Castaway Club loyalty program, including early access to new itineraries and onboard activities.

However, the Castaway Club loyalty program is not nearly as robust as the frequent cruiser programs of many other well-known brands, such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line. If you're going to sail a lot with Disney, you'll want to do it because you love the brand, not because you expect a lot of onboard recognition for your loyalty.

How do you become a Castaway Club member?

You become a Castaway member after you have completed your first cruise. Take note of the word completed, if you have booked and paid for your cruise in full, you still need to have completed your cruise to become a member or move up a level.

What are the Castaway Club levels?

The 3 membership levels are based on the total number of completed eligible cruises:

  • Silver Castaway – 1 completed cruise
  • Gold Castaway – 5 completed cruises
  • Platinum Castaway – 10 completed cruises

About Eligible Sailings Sailings purchased at select fare types (such as media, vendors and Cast Members travelling on business) are not considered eligible cruises for calculating Castaway Club Membership levels.

What do Castaway Club members get?

The benefits of the Castaway Club depend on your level.

The benefits of being a Silver Castaway Club member include booking new itineraries one day before the general public. Silver members can book their Port Adventures, specialty dining, adult beverage seminars, spa services and other activities 90 days before the sailing. Access to a dedicated Castaway phone line. Early opportunity to book a Port Arrival Time (PAT) ( this benefit is currently paused due to the pandemic). Silver Castaway members also get an exclusive check-in desk at the terminal. A welcome-back gift and a silver lanyard are left in your stateroom for you. Pre-pandemic, you would get your lanyard in the terminal when you checked in. Check in 33 days prior to your cruise.

Beach Tote

Gold members have completed 5 cruises. They get all the benefits of Silver Castaway members. If you are Gold, you can book new itineraries two days before the general public and book port adventures and onboard activities 105 days before sailing. Gold and Platinum members sailing on cruises longer than 8 nights are also invited to an onboard reception. They offer complimentary adult beverages, and we received Rice Krispy Mickey treats and a preview of an upcoming show. Rounding out the benefits is a discount at the shops onboard. Check in 35 days prior to your cruise.

The Sling Bag

You become a platinum member after completing 10 cruises. As a platinum member, you receive all the benefits that silver and gold members get. Platinum cruisers can book new itineraries three days before the general public and get the first chance to book new itineraries. Onboard booking for platinum members is 120 days before the sailing. Only concierge guests get to book earlier, at 135 days. Platinum members also receive a complimentary dinner at Palo. Check in 38 days prior to your cruise.

Platinum Gift Cooler Backpack

New Pearl Level

Pearl Castaway Club  members can book new itineraries  4 days before the general public . Platinum will book 3 days prior, Gold 2 days and Silver 1 day before the general public.  Pearl member s will have early access to online activity planning starting 123 days before sailing . Platinum will remain at 120 days, Gold at 105, and Silver at 90 days. They also receieve a complimentary photo package. Check in 40 days prior to your cruise.

All members get a welcome back aboard gift. On May 1, 2023 new gifts were released for the 25th Anniversary of Disney Cruise.

How do I find my Castaway Club status?

To find out about your Castaway Status , you can find it under the already booked tab, and near the bottom is the Castaway Club link.

Castaway Club

Do Castaway Club members get a discount?

Castaway members do not get a discount. However, you can save 10% on your next cruise if you get a placeholder while on your cruise. Disney also has a discount for New Castawy Club Members. The Castaway Club Welcome Offer needs to be booked within  60 days of disembarking  your first cruise.

Castaway Cay Bahamas

Does your Castaway Membership Expire?

I have added one more question and answer because of a recent change to the Disney Cruise Line website. Recently, DCL quietly changed the Castaway Club by adding an expiration to their membership. “To remain in the program, Castaway Club Members  must book or sail on at least one eligible cruise within five years of their last Disney voyage . For more information, view the  Castaway Club terms and conditions .”

Castaway Club Members must book or sail on at least one eligible cruise within five years of their last Disney voyage.

The language used is open to interpretation. When you click through the terms and conditions, you will find this:  “The Activity Period shall mean the five (5) year period after debarkation day of the Member’s last eligible DCL Cruise.  However, DCL may (but is not required to) extend the Activity Period and/or continue making Program Benefits available to Member if Member does not book or complete an eligible DCL cruise within their Activity Period ; such decisions shall be in DCL’s sole discretion. ” It is unclear why Disney would make this change; it is an outlier in cruising.

In our opinion,  you should always book a Disney cruise with a third-party travel agency or site that provides a bonus or discount . The extra onboard credit or discount is effectively FREE money. The primary question is whether you prefer to handle your bookings directly ( self-service ), or work with a personal agent ( full-service ). They’re both good options and they both offer essentially similar savings: one via their own extra-discounted fares and the other via FREE onboard credit.

Booking a Disney Cruise With a Self-Service Site

Our pick for self-service booking is Undercover Tourist . We’ve recommended them for more than a decade as a fantastic source for tickets, but they also have impressive deals on Disney cruises. Unlike other self-booking options like Expedia or Priceline, Undercover Tourist adds an additional discount over and above any special pricing Disney offers (like restricted guarantee , Military , or Florida resident rates)! We know of no other site that adds their own discounts to the baseline fare for Disney cruises. Occasionally one of the big online travel sites will do a limited-time small onboard credit or in-room gift, but Undercover Tourist offers extra discounts , on every Disney cruise, every day. Undercover Tourist further guarantees to MouseSavers readers that you will always get their lowest possible prices when booking through our links here and through our monthly newsletter and Hot Deals emails.

Keep in mind that this is a self-service option , for people who know exactly what cruise they want to take, what stateroom, how dining works, etc. If you like to handle your own bookings directly, Undercover Tourist is a great choice. If you would like to have a personal agent who can help guide you through the decision process and be available to answer questions, then the full-service approach will be a better fit.

  • Check out Undercover Tourist’s discounted cruise rates for Disney Cruise Lines ! Undercover Tourist guarantees MouseSavers readers get their lowest rates!

Booking a Disney Cruise With a Full-Service Agent

The benefits of using a top travel agent are significant, both in convenience and price. First off, the best travel agents give you onboard credit, which is effectively FREE money, since the cruise fare isn’t any higher than if you booked through Disney. Furthermore, Disney Cruise Line has lots of confusing options involving tradeoffs that aren’t always clear. Using an experienced travel agent is like getting a FREE expert who knows everything about the Disney Cruise Line and is happy to walk you through the process and offer advice.

The travel agency we personally recommend here on MouseSavers.com, Small World Vacations , has some of the most experienced agents in the industry . The agents who handle cruise bookings for Small World have been on multiple Disney cruises, and know a truly astonishing amount about all four ships, the various Disney ports of call and all the common itineraries (and many uncommon ones). Many of them are Platinum members of Disney’s Castaway Club, meaning that they have personally been on 10 or more Disney cruises! They each have a direct phone number and email address they give out to their clients, so you can email them questions or requests any time.

Small World Vacations offers an onboard credit of up to $1,000 when you book a Disney Cruise with them. (Credit depends on your total cruise fare; the minimum fare to get credit is $1000.) Your onboard credit is good toward anything you can charge to your room, such as spa treatments, special dining, shore excursions or even your bar tab! Plus, this onboard credit offer is on top of any other discounts for which you may qualify (like restricted guarantee , Military , or Florida resident rates). And perhaps most importantly, the Small World Vacations agents know how to maximize value by making use of tricks like secret porthole rooms , secret verandah rooms , secret connecting rooms , and other clever strategies.

We pretty rarely encounter a deal that qualifies as a “no brainer,” but this is absolutely one, because it’s effectively FREE money . Small World Vacations’ fares are exactly the same as Disney’s; there are no other hidden markups or extra fees. The onboard credit is a bonus you won’t get booking with Disney.

Finally, if you’re going on a Disney cruise, be sure you take advantage of the onboard booking discount and list Small World Vacations as your preferred travel agent (or transfer the booking to Small World Vacations after your cruise is over), because it’s an essentially risk-free way to get significant discounts from Disney plus onboard credit from Small World Vacations in one fell swoop on a future cruise.

If you have any questions about onboard booking, email your questions directly to Small World Vacations at [email protected] before you leave on your cruise, and mention that you heard about onboard booking on MouseSavers.com. In our experience, the travel agents at Small World Vacations are great at finding the best fares. They know all the tricks that will save you money, and they know the Disney Cruise Line inside and out. We’re confident that once you work with a really great travel agent, you’ll never want to book a cruise any other way.

  • Learn more about the Small World Vacations onboard credit offer and request a price quote for your Disney cruise .
  • Small World Vacations gives you full service , including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number, and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS they give you FREE onboard credit for any Disney Cruise Line booking of over $1000 total fare!

Onboard credit is cash value linked to your stateroom account on the ship, which you can spend by using your room key to pay for pretty much anything on the ship or on Castaway Cay. Onboard credit can be used for merchandise, adult beverages, bottled water, spa treatments, shore excursions, Palo, Remy, Palo Steakhouse or Enchanté meals, and other onboard activities, or even applied to gratuities for your servers and stateroom attendant.

Small World Vacations Onboard Credit

The travel agency we personally recommend here on MouseSavers.com, Small World Vacations , offers an onboard credit of $50 – $1000 when you book through them. (Credit depends on your total cruise fare; the minimum fare to get credit is $1000.) To learn more, visit the Small World Vacations website , where you can see full details about the onboard credit offer and request a quote on your cruise vacation .

New! Reduced Deposit Offer

Book select 2024 or 2025 Disney Cruise Line cruises aboard the Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Magic and Disney Wish and only pay half the regular deposit up front (10% instead of 20%). Eligible departure dates are:

  • Disney Wonder: October 20, 2024 – February 24, 2025
  • Disney Dream: January 4 – March 29, 2025
  • Disney Magic: January 6 – March 20, 2025
  • Disney Wish: January 3 – March 31, 2025

Valid on new reservations only. Not valid on suites; Concierge-level staterooms; Disney Treasure or Disney Fantasy sailings; Restricted Guarantee fares (IGT, OGT and VGT); or cruises that have passed their Paid In Full (PIF) date. This offer is not combinable with other offers and discounts, but can be combined with Small World Vacations’ Onboard Credit Offer of $50 – $1000.

Book by August 9, 2024.

  • If you are interested in booking the Reduced Deposit Offer , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.
  • Small World Vacations is a full service agency, offering a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number. It costs you nothing to use them, PLUS their FREE onboard credit offer applies to these special fares (the total cruise fare for the stateroom must be at least $1000 to get their onboard credit).
  • Undercover Tourist is a self-service booking site similar to Expedia or Priceline, but with years of focus on the Disney travel market. They offer the special rates mentioned above PLUS they add their own discounts.

Restricted Guarantee fares, when offered, are a great way to save if you are flexible about your stateroom location and willing to book “last minute,” usually meaning 21-75 days prior to departure. The savings can be very large, but you won’t know your exact stateroom at booking time. Disney guarantees you will get at least the stateroom type specified, and you could get assigned a higher level. You usually will get an actual stateroom assignment about 14 days before embarkation, but it could be assigned as late as the embarkation day.

There are complicated rules for Restricted Guarantee bookings ; be sure to read them if you’re not already familiar with them. The “Restricted Guarantee” room categories are offered on select sailings. The categories are:

  • Guaranteed Inside Stateroom with Restrictions (category IGT) – Guarantees an inside or better stateroom (minimum category 11C)
  • Guaranteed Oceanview Stateroom with Restrictions (category OGT) – Guarantees an oceanview or better stateroom (minimum category 9D)
  • Guaranteed Verandah Stateroom with Restrictions (category VGT) – Guarantees a verandah or better stateroom (minimum category 7A)

As of June 9, 2024, the following cruises had availability in the Restricted Guarantee categories . Prices given are lowest available fares for a single stateroom, in US dollars, including taxes, fees and port expenses, rounded to the nearest dollar. All sailings are from Port Canaveral unless noted otherwise.

General Notes:

  • A single guest gets charged essentially the same price as two guests. (Cruises are generally priced for a minimum of two guests per cabin.)
  • 5-passenger rooms are not available with this discount .
  • These discounts come and go as room inventory for a cruise changes. If you check for one and it doesn’t come up, it may come back. It’s worth checking back a few times over the next day or two to see if the discount becomes available again.
  • If a price isn’t listed, that doesn’t mean the category is completely sold out , just that it isn’t available with this discount.

Select number of guests to see total sailing price (for one stateroom):

  • If you are interested in booking one of these special restricted last-minute rates , we recommend either Small World Vacations or Undercover Tourist . We have worked with both companies for over 15 years and can recommend them wholeheartedly. It’s really a question of whether you prefer full-service booking or self booking. These staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

Important details you need to know about Restricted Guarantee fares:

  • Can be combined with the Small World Vacations onboard credit offer as well as Undercover Tourist’s own bonus discounts.
  • Cannot be combined with any other Disney discount or promotional offers.
  • The specific stateroom is assigned by Disney, generally within a week of cruise departure. You cannot select a stateroom number or make special requests as to stateroom location.
  • If you book two or more Restricted Guarantee staterooms, there is no way to ensure that they are near each other, or even on the same deck. Disney will put the rooms as close together as they can, but sometimes they just don’t have any rooms left that are near each other.
  • Applies to new bookings only. Existing reservations cannot be modified to these new categories.
  • Full payment is due at time of booking. Booking holds are not permitted.
  • Reservation is non-refundable . (This only applies to situations where you cancel the cruise. If Disney cancels the cruise, for example because of pandemic restrictions, you will get a refund.)
  • Reservation and applied payment are non-transferable .
  • Full legal names and birthdates for all stateroom occupants are required at time of booking.
  • Name changes after booking are not allowed .
  • Sail date, stateroom category and cruise itinerary changes are not allowed .
  • You can book a maximum of four people per stateroom on a Restricted Guarantee booking.
  • There is typically more availability for three or fewer guests per room. All Disney Cruise staterooms can hold three guests, but only some can hold four.
  • If you’re looking for these cruise fares on Disney’s web site, look for fares labeled “Guaranteed Inside Stateroom with Restrictions” or similar for Oceanview or Verandah. The key words are “…with restrictions.”

The one major change that you can make after booking: additional guests can be added to a stateroom, subject to space restrictions. Restrictions and booking rules are subject to change.

If you are going on a Disney cruise and think there is any chance you or a friend or relative may want to go on another Disney cruise in the next 24 months, be sure to book a future cruise while you are still onboard the ship . Disney has one of the most generous onboard booking programs in the cruise industry, and it’s a great way to get a discount and lower deposit on a future Disney cruise. When you book a future cruise while still onboard the ship you get all of the following benefits:

  • A 10% discount on the final cruise fare (with some blackout dates ; see below). Does not apply to Concierge bookings.
  • A lower deposit requirement of only 10% on 7+ night cruises (regular deposit requirement is 20%). Does not apply to Concierge bookings.
  • If you booked your current cruise with Small World Vacations and also use them as your agent for the future cruise , you’ll also get half their normal onboard credit . (Note that if you didn’t book your current cruise with Small World Vacations, the onboard booking agents may not let you add Small World as your agent while onboard. In that case, you would have to transfer your booking to Small World after you get home, but you would still be eligible for half their normal credit.)

You can book either a specific cruise or a “placeholder” cruise. A placeholder lets you make a booking without picking a specific cruise. It can be associated with a specific cruise later, after you get home and decide. To book a specific cruise onboard, you put down a deposit of 10% or 20% of the whole fare, depending on the length of the cruise. To book a placeholder, you put down a flat $250 deposit per future stateroom. When you change a placeholder to a specific cruise booking you’ll have to pay any increase in deposit. Keep in mind, there is an advantage to booking a specific cruise as early as possible: you lock in the rate. So, if there is a cruise you might want to take, it’s a good idea to book that specific cruise rather than a placeholder. Even if you’re not 100% sure that’s your perfect cruise, remember you can change it later with no penalty.

If you ultimately decide not to take a cruise, Disney will refund 100% of your deposit or placeholder payment . You always get a 100% refund as long as you haven’t passed the penalty date (120-75 days from sailing, depending on the cruise), and you didn’t book a concierge room or suite. There’s basically no risk, though it does tie up some deposit money while you think about your options.

You can change almost every aspect of your booking as many times as you need to and still keep the benefits . The name of one adult in each stateroom must stay the same, but you can change the names of any of the other guests, or increase or reduce the number of guests. You can change the stateroom category. You can change the ship or the sailing as long as the sail date is within 24 months of the initial booking date. If you end up changing to a more expensive booking, you’ll need to make up the difference between your original deposit and the new deposit. Keep in mind that if you later add a guest to a stateroom, they will get added at current rates, not at your initial booking rates. For the lowest final price and most flexibility, it’s a good idea to make the initial booking with everyone who might go, rather than only the people you know are going to go.

You get the full discount for up to two future staterooms or placeholders per household (i.e. per mailing address). Once you leave the ship, you can’t book more , so we recommend booking two (or more) every time, if you can afford to tie up the deposit money. If you later decide that you want to bring another family along, or put the kids in their own stateroom, you’ll be glad to have two rooms booked with the discount.

You can get the full discount for friends or relatives who are not sailing on your cruise. You’ll need your friends’ full legal names (as written on their passport) and their birth dates. Under the current rules, the first stateroom or placeholder you book with this discount on the future cruise needs to include at least one adult who is on the current cruise, in addition to anyone else you want to add, and then the second stateroom can have anyone in it. For example, say you wanted to book a cruise for your friends, the Smith family. You could book one room for your own family, then book the second room (on the same cruise) for the Smith family.

If you already have a future cruise booked, you can usually “re-shop” your existing booking and get the discount. However, you basically have to make a new booking and cancel the old one, and the price might have gone up since you booked originally, potentially wiping out your discount. Be sure to compare the bottom-line price for both bookings.

A few other terms & conditions:

  • There is no discount or lower deposit for 1- or 2-night sailings, IGT, OGT and VGT Restricted Guarantee bookings, or concierge staterooms and suites.
  • You can get the 10% discount and reduced deposit on a maximum of two staterooms per household.
  • Onboard booking incentives CANNOT be combined with any group discounts organized by a travel agency.
  • Disney could change these rules and benefits at any time. Check onboard for the latest terms.

Onboard Discount Blackout Dates:

Please note: there is no 10% discount when you book the following holiday and peak dates onboard (but you do get the smaller deposit):

  • Disney Dream : 11/23, 11/27, 12/21, 12/26, 12/30
  • Disney Fantasy : 6/8, 11/23, 12/22, 12/26, 12/29
  • Disney Magic : 6/6, 11/25, 12/29
  • Disney Treasure : 12/21, 12/28
  • Disney Wish : 11/25, 12/23, 12/27, 12/30
  • Disney Wonder : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Dream : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Fantasy : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Magic : ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Treasure:  ( none announced yet )
  • Disney Wish : 4/14, 4/18, 4/21
  • The full legal names of everyone who is going to go on the future cruise, as listed on their passport or birth certificate
  • The number of rooms you want to book and what type ( inside, outside, verandah or placeholder )
  • Who’s in each room ( keeping in mind the maximum passengers for each room type )
  • Specific cruises you’re interested in, if you plan to book a cruise and not a placeholder ( or just rough notes with your needs/restrictions like dates or region )
  • Birth dates for everyone ( optional, but makes everything go smoother )
  • Bring the info with you on the cruise. If you just want to book a basic placeholder, you can do that while on the cruise with the Disney Navigator App on your phone (if you don’t already have it, just search for “Disney Navigator” in the Apple or Google app stores; you can download it before the cruise leaves to save time). If you want to do anything more complicated you’ll need to talk to a consultant at the future cruise desk.
  • If you can’t or don’t want to use the the Navigator app, at some point early in the cruise, go to the Future Bookings Desk on deck 4 and either fill out a form, or just put your room number and name on the sheet you brought (if it has all the details on it they’ll need) and drop it in the box. You can also wait for a consultant if they’re there, or check the schedule and come back when they’re scheduled to be there. If you drop off a form, they’ll secure a hold on a reservation and leave a printout by your stateroom door. If the reservation looks good, either go back to the desk to finish the booking or call 7-2848 from your stateroom phone. Either way, when the booking is done ask for a printed confirmation of your final reservation.
  • Before you leave the ship, confirm that everything is correct . You should have a printed confirmation or an emailed confirmation. The confirmation should show that your deposit is paid (if not, the booking will be canceled). If this isn’t on your confirmation, go to the Future Bookings Desk or Guest Services and make sure everything is correct. If you are working with a travel agent, verbally confirm that they are listed on the reservation before you leave the ship.
  • That’s it! If you booked a “placeholder” cruise, you can start the process of finding your actual cruise. If you are using a travel agent , email them to let them know you booked onboard. Once you’ve settled on the cruise you really want to take, change the booking as soon as you can to the actual sailing date to lock in the lowest possible fares and get the best choice of staterooms.

Disney Cruise Discounts for Disney Visa Cardholders

Disney Visa cardholders who use their card as their payment method onboard automatically get several discounts on purchases on the ship and on Castaway Cay. In order for this to happen, you have to register your Disney Visa card when you check in at the port. You do not need to charge the cruise fare on your Disney Visa to get the discounts.

You should not need to ask at purchase time to get the discounts; if you have the card registered any discounts should automatically be applied when you make an eligible purchase.

These discounts cannot be combined with any other discounts you might qualify for, such as Disney Vacation Club discounts.

Discounts include:

  • 10% off selected merchandise purchases of $50 or more. Excludes sale merchandise, gift cards, Castaway Cay merchandise, DVDs, CDs, big-ticket items like art, jewelry, fragrances, cosmetics and watches, plus several vague catch-all categories like “selected special items.” Basically, ask first if you’ll get the 10% off, if it’s important to your purchase decision.
  • 10% off 10-photo, 15-photo, 20-photo or unlimited photo packages.
  • 10% off the Castaway Cay Getaway package (combination of snorkeling, bicycle and float or inner-tube rental).
  • 20% off full-priced massage or facial treatment in the onboard spa while in port . This does not include massages on Castaway Cay or treatments discounted as part of onboard specials.

Disney Cruise Discounts for Disney Vacation Club Members

Dvc onboard spending discounts.

Disney Vacation Club members get several discounts on purchases onboard any Disney Cruise. You need to ask for the discount and show your Disney Vacation Club card at time of purchase.

This discount cannot be combined with any other discounts you might qualify for, such as Disney Visa discounts. DVC members who only own points purchased via resale after April 4, 2016 are not eligible for discounts, including this one.

  • 10% off selected merchandise purchases of $50 or more.
  • 10% off any digital photo package.

DVC Cruise Fare Discounts

The following cruises have discounts available for Disney Vacation Club members for up to 3 persons (some may also be available for 4 or 5). Prices given are base fares per person (Guest 1 & 2/Guest 3+). 3rd, 4th and 5th guest fares for children 12 and under will be lower. Taxes, fees and port expenses are not included. All sailings are from Port Canaveral unless noted otherwise.

Other stateroom categories may be available at other rates. Rates are per adult, based on double occupancy. Occupancy restrictions may apply. Taxes, fees, port expenses and excursions are not included. See Disney Cruise Line brochure for details and applicable terms and conditions. Other discounts do not apply. Only one discount may be used at a time. Rates in US dollars. Offer open only to Disney Vacation Club members.

  • If you are interested in booking one of these special Disney Vacation Club rates , we recommend filling out a quote form with Small World Vacations . They give you full service, including a personal travel agent you can contact by email or direct phone number, and we recommend them wholeheartedly ! Best of all, it costs you nothing to use them, PLUS their FREE onboard credit offer applies to these special fares (though note that the total cruise fare must be at least $1000 to get their onboard credit). Be sure to tell them you want to book a Disney Vacation Club fare. You will need to fax or email proof of DVC membership to finalize the booking. Note that these staterooms often sell out fast, so if you see one you like, snag it quickly.

Organizing your own group? Disney Specialist travel agents are adept at handling large groups and offer on-board credit and sometimes other incentives. Contact a Disney Specialist travel agency such as Small World Vacations for details. Remember, it costs you nothing to use them!

Costco members can get rebates on Disney cruises, which come in the form of a Costco gift card. However, Costco Travel is not a full-service travel agency: don’t expect much service or information.

In our experience, Costco reps are very nice, but don’t know much about Disney Cruise Line. They almost certainly have never been on a Disney cruise, and may have never been on a cruise of any kind. If you choose to go this route, be prepared to spend time and energy doing your own research about what your package includes and how everything works. Heaven help you if you need to book something complicated like connecting rooms or want to know the pros and cons of different stateroom options. Costco Travel most definitely won’t be able to offer any insider tips on what to expect or help you take advantage of special booking tricks or “secret” room upgrades. Effectively you’re just booking the cruise yourself, but through Costco instead of Disney.

In addition, we find the Costco reps are clueless about Disney’s promotional offers — they really only know about the Costco rebate. You will have to do your own monitoring to see if any specials or price drops come out, and then see if you can get them applied to your booking. A top-notch Disney specialist agency will do this for you automatically, adjusting your reservation to reflect any current offers or discounts.

Travelocity sometimes has special deals on Disney cruises. They are usually fairly last-minute offers, most typically no more than 6 months in advance. Travelocity also sometimes advertises “15% off shore excursions” but be aware that those are privately booked excursions through a company called Port Promotions, NOT the official Disney excursions.

Expedia has the same base prices as everyone else, but occasionally they will have their own additional offer, like onboard credit or extra Expedia rewards points. Be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully; in some cases there are sharp limits on the extra rewards or credit, or it will only apply to the cruise fare for the first two guests instead of the entire cruise fare.

12 Disney Cast Member Perks & Benefits Beyond Pay That Set Working For Disney Parks Apart

For many people who decide to work at the Disney theme parks, they choose to do so because they want to create magical moments for guests from all around the world every day. These Disney Cast Member Perks and benefits help to set working for Disney apart.

Maybe they had a great experience with a Cast Member when they were younger that inspired them, or maybe they’ve never been to the parks at all but have always dreamed of working for Mickey Mouse. Whatever the reason is that people decide to work at the Disney parks, they receive some pretty awesome benefits in addition to the opportunities to help make memories for guests. Keep reading to find out 10 perks that Disney Cast Members get!

In this article:

Free Theme Park Entry is Top Cast Member Perk

By far the most substantial special perk that Disney Cast Members get is free entry into the theme parks. Whether they are working directly in one of the parks or they’re at one of the resort hotels or Disney-owned shops in Downtown Disney or Disney Springs, they receive a pass that will allow them to enter any of the Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme parks for free.

Cast Member park entry passes, called “Main Gates,” are subject to blackout dates just like certain levels of tickets or annual passes are. Depending on what the occasion is (a major holiday, a new attraction/park area opening, or a special event), Cast Members may be blocked from some or all the parks so that paying guests can enter instead.

Cast Members are able to connect their Main Gate passes with their My Disney Experience app, which makes it easier if they are planning a trip ahead of time. However, one of the best benefits of these passes is that if Cast Members find themselves with a few hours of free time and are not blocked out, they can quickly head over to a park and grab a snack, ride a few attractions, or even just sit on a bench and people watch.

Tuition Support For a Wide Range of Universities is a Cast Member Benefit

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

While access to the Disney theme parks is a great perk, this next one is substantial and has changed the lives of thousands of Disney Cast Members. More than any other item on this list, this benefit is a powerful one for Cast Members to transform their situations.

Eligible full-time and hourly Disney Cast Members also get access to the “Disney Aspire” program which pays 100% of tuition upfront. This perk allows Cast Members to continue with their education dreams while working for Disney. The company supports tuition for Cast Members at a variety of university programs in person and online.

In fact, 1 in 4 applicants to Disney jobs now cite this university program as one of the key Disney perks that inspired them to apply for the Disney position. Over 2,800 Disney Aspire students and graduates have been promoted into leadership positions across The Walt Disney Company.

Exclusive Giveaways

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Throughout the year, Cast Members are given the perk of submitting their names into giveaways that are offered for exclusive prizes and experiences. These contests change every couple of months, and they provide a wide variety of offerings that most people will never have the opportunity to enjoy. Depending on what the prize is, the giveaways can be won by one person or several people.

In the past, Cast Members have won complimentary stays in concierge-level rooms at deluxe resorts, backstage tours of attractions in the theme parks, early previews of brand-new Disney movies, and even a night in the Cinderella Castle Suite at Disney World. Sometimes, Cast Members are even able to bring along a guest or two of their choosing to participate in the experience with them, which makes this perk even sweeter!

Theme Park Passes for Family and Friends

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Another perk that Disney Cast Members get is the ability to bring family and friends into the theme parks for free. These “Guest Passes” work differently than the Main Gate passes, because while Cast Members have an unlimited amount of entry opportunities to use for themselves, they are limited in the number of times they can bring a guest in for free.

The Cast Member Guest Passes can only be used if the Cast Member enters the park with their guests at the beginning of the day. The Cast Member remaining with their guests throughout the duration of their day is important, because if the guests act inappropriately or cause any trouble, it reflects directly back onto the Cast Member. This is also why most Cast Members will only allow people that they know and trust to use their Guest Passes.

Discounts at Restaurants is Favorite Disney Cast Member Perk

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

In addition to free park entry, Cast Members are also given a lot of different discounts on various Disney experiences. One of the most lucrative is the restaurant discounts, since there are so many fantastic places to eat at the theme parks and resorts. There are some stipulations to this discount, since not every restaurant offers a discount all the time.

For some restaurants, the dining discount can only be used during a certain mealtime, like at breakfast or lunch. Some restaurants only offer a discount at slower times of the year to ensure they are bringing in as much revenue as possible during the busy seasons. Whether the discount can be used or not really depends on the price, popularity, and capacity of the restaurant at any given time.

Generally, Cast Members receive a discount at the Quick Service Restaurants all throughout the year. Some of the Table Service Restaurants that are not busy often, like those at the resorts, offer a discount all year round as well. And sometimes, even the specialty restaurants—like the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue, for example—provide Cast Members with a large discount.

Sneak Previews of New Theme Park Experiences

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

While it doesn’t happen all the time, one extra special perk Cast Members are given is the chance to try out new park areas, attractions, and restaurants before they are opened to the public. The primary reason for doing this is so Cast Members are able to answer questions about and advise guests on the new offerings available, but it’s a great experience for those who are able to participate.

If a new attraction is opening at one of the parks (like TRON Lightcycle/Run, for example), Cast Members are able to sign up for a specific date and time to test out the ride and are permitted to enter the park for that purpose, even if it’s a day that their Main Gate passes are blocked out. When a brand-new land is opening, like Pandora – The World of Avatar or Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Cast Members are able to spend several hours in the area riding the new attractions, eating at the restaurants, and checking out the merchandise.

Merchandise Discounts

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

For Cast Members who enjoy collecting Disney items, the merchandise discount is one of the best perks available. Just like the restaurant discounts, the amount of savings Cast Members receive depends on the time of year, the items they’re buying, and the store they’re purchasing them at. During the holiday season, Cast Members typically receive double the discount they’re offered the rest of the year, so that’s the time when most will stock up on theme park souvenirs they’ve had their eyes on.

Cast Members also have the unique benefit of shopping at Cast Connection, where excess merchandise that is being retired is stored. The price on these items is usually already lower than it was in the parks, and then Cast Members also get an additional discount added using their Disney ID card. There is an area of the store that houses items that are not sellable due to slight damage or wear, and those can be up to 75% off the original price. There are even sometimes retired Cast Member costumes and resort furniture pieces up for grabs!

Discounted Resort Stays

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Although Cast Members generally live close to the Disney theme parks, there are still times when it is beneficial to stay onsite, whether for a staycation, an early morning event, or spending time with out-of-towners. In these instances, having a resort discount to take advantage of is ideal, and Cast Members definitely make the most of this offer.

Like the restaurant discounts, this perk depends largely on the time of year and what is happening at the theme parks. While the offer is always available, it’s not always an option at every resort. It’s much more challenging for Cast Members to find a discounted room during spring break season and the winter holidays, and when large events are happening at ESPN Wide World of Sports, it’s almost impossible to book a room at any of the Disney World value resorts.

There are almost always discounted rooms available at the deluxe villa resorts and some of the larger, less popular options, like Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground. The newer resorts don’t often have any openings, and if they do, it’s usually for the rooms that accommodate more people, like the family suites. Cast Members never know what they’re going to be able to find, but it’s still a great perk nevertheless.

Specialty Activity Discounts

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Outside of all the Disney theme park vacation basics like a resort room, food, and souvenirs, Cast Members also receive discounts on specialty offerings from time to time. These activities can range from Disney Cruise Line trips and Adventures by Disney excursions around the world to VIP tours and packages within the theme parks and resorts.

In the past, some of the tours that have been available to Cast Members at a lower cost included the Wild Africa Trek at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Behind the Seeds Tour in The Land Pavilion at Epcot, and the Keys to the Kingdom tour at Magic Kingdom. The cruises and excursions that have been previously offered have traveled all over the world, from the tropical Caribbean Islands to snowy Scandinavia. All in all, Cast Members are able to enjoy once-in-a-lifetime experiences at a much lower cost.

Did you know that Adventures by Disney has a once-in-a-lifetime experience that guests can participate in too? Check out the itinerary for a $115k private jet trip to every Disney Park around the world .

Exclusive Cast Member Events

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

In addition to the contests and sneak peek opportunities that are offered, there are often other special activities that take place that any Cast Member can sign up to participate in. Sometimes these are larger experiences that can accommodate a lot of people, and others are only available to much smaller groups, so Cast Members need to keep an eye out for when these events are posted so they can get their name on the list.

These activities span a lot of different areas of the theme parks and resorts. In the past, events offered have included sunrise yoga in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom, Cast Member 5k runs, scavenger hunts throughout the parks, and backstage tours of attractions and shows like Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster and Fantasmic! Plus, for the more competitive activities, Cast Members sometimes receive specialty prizes that cannot be purchased anywhere else.

Holiday Coupon Booklets

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

During the winter holiday season, Cast Members receive the gift of a coupon booklet to celebrate the conclusion of another great year. These booklets contain a mixture of free and discounted experiences, and they can only be used for a limited amount of time, usually between November and February.

The booklet typically includes several coupons for free snacks like popcorn, churros, or Mickey pretzels. It also usually has a few major discount coupons that can be used at most of the Table Service Restaurants, a free pass for mini golf at Fantasia Gardens or Winter Summerland, and an extra complimentary ticket that Cast Members can use to bring a family member or friend into the theme parks.

Service Anniversary Celebrations

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

The Cast Members who have dedicated 10 or more years of their lives to the Disney theme parks and resorts receive an extra perk: Service Anniversary Celebrations. These parties are offered once a year for Cast Members who are celebrating a milestone anniversary working for the Walt Disney Company. This begins at the 10-year mark and then every five years afterward they are invited again.

For these special events, one of the theme parks closes to the general public a few hours earlier than normal, and only those invited to the party and their plus ones are allowed to enter. There are delicious food and beverage options available, unique character meet and greets, and some of the most popular attractions remain open for the attendees to enjoy. This really is a wonderful way for Disney to recognize the hard work and dedication their Cast Members put in every day to make magical moments for guests!

If you're a Cast Member, what's your favorite perk of the role? And if you're not a Cast Member, which of these perks sounds most exciting? Tell us in the comments! See all the top Disney Cast Member discounts for employees.

Discounts for Cast Members and Military

Cool Cruiser

I haven't been in these groups for a long time and I am trying to book a Disney Cruise. I have only been on Carnival once and used an agent.  So my Disney account shows Florida Resident and Disney Plus.  Are these discounts added automatically if they are available?

Also, two of the people coming with us are Cast Members (daughter and boyfriend).  She says her discount calendar doesn't go out to Thanksgiving of next year yet... If available at a later time, can they add cast member discount/pricing?   I have them in one room and me and hubby in another, for discounts, would it be better to be my daughter and I in one room, and hubby and boyfriend in another?  I haven' finished booking yet, but put the reservation on hold...

Same question for military... on my Disney account, I don't see how to add that my husband and I are retired military. If available, can I add that after booking?

I may just need to call... Of course, I want all the discounts available.

Cast member discounts typically show up much closer to actual cruise.  Around 90 days out.  If the discount is a better price (taking into account any cancellation penalties) you have to cancel current reservation and make a new one with the CM price.  You would also lose any activity/excursion reservations connected to the original reservation.

Military discounts are on specific cruises, not all cruises.  You can find the dates of those cruises on the DCL website on the "Plan a cruise" tab, "Special Offers" link.  I don't know for sure how those work, if you can just apply the discounted rate to an existing reservation or if you have to cancel and rebook.

Any discounts must be added to the reservation.  I don't think any automatically happen.  And, I believe, you can only get one, no stacking discounts.

I know when I booked a Disney+ special cruise for last month (I booked it in July), it was specifically mentioned to me at least twice that the sale was final and unless I tested positive for COVID there would be no refunds, no price adjustments, no nothing. You should read the specifics of any discounts you are interested in using to see their stipulations.

It worked out great for me. I ended up cruising on Disney for what I consider to be a bargain, after having experienced it.

Long story short, neither of you will get discounts for that cruise.  Disney offers CM, military, and FL resident pricing on near-term cruises they are having trouble filling.  The CM's will, however, get discounts on on-board purchases just like in the parks.

For the CM discount, she is able to book her room as well as another room at the discount, so no need to split the cast members into different rooms. But like others mentioned, it's all very short notice when they're posted and cancelling and rebooking might not be ideal bc of the cancellation window.

I do not think cast member discounts are for all cruises. My sister is a cast member and watches the offerings on the cast website. They only discount cruises that are not full and after final payment is due.   It is not likely a Thanksgiving cruise would be discounted.

This is true and discounted cruises are not posted on the Hub until 45 days out.

DisneyTips.com Your Guide To A Great Disney Vacation

Ways to create magic for disney cruise line cast members.

Posted by: Victoria Mills August 23, 2022

Showing your appreciation for Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members is really easy nowadays, with the Mobile Cast Compliment feature. It doesn’t matter which Disney Park Guests are visiting, or if they are coming to the end of their vacation; Guests can thank Cast Members and show recognition from excellent Guest Service at any time that is convenient to them.

You may be wondering then about showing appreciation for Cast Members when cruising with Disney Cruise Line . Whilst the Cast Compliment feature isn’t available on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app (we certainly hope it will be added soon), there are other ways that you can commend Cast Members for excellent Guest service during your Disney Cruise.

Tipping when taking a Disney Cruise

The obvious way to thank Cast Members is through gratuities . Disney Cruise Line recommends a gratuity amount of $14.50 per night, per stateroom Guest, including infants and children, and a little more for Guests staying in a concierge stateroom. This charge will be automatically added to your stateroom account, which will then require settling before you disembark the ship. Guests who are happy with this gratuity amount can pre-pay before embarking on their Disney Cruise, offering an all-inclusive experience to Guests.

Alternatively, Guests can request that the automatic charge be removed. This is particularly helpful if you wish to choose your own gratuity amount to give to Crew Members who you interact with daily. Gratuities, whether you accept the recommended amount, or decide for yourself, are given to the following Crew Members:

  • Dining room server
  • Dining room assistant server
  • Dining room head server
  • Stateroom host

Guests opting to decide their own gratuity amounts will receive four envelopes, one for each of the above-mentioned Cast Members, in their stateroom on the final evening of their Disney Cruise. Guests then fill the envelopes and hand them to the specific Cast Members before disembarking the ship.

A top tip is to have some spare dollar bills ready if you intend to order room service. The Crew Member who delivers your room service order can accept a gratuity if they provide great service. Your order can determine the gratuity: if ordering a meal, then tip around $5; for a smaller order, $2-$3 will suffice. Our favorite items to order via room service when on a Disney Cruise are milk and cookies before bed or a Mickey Premium Bar.

You may be wondering how to give recognition to other Cast Members that provide you with exceptional Guest service and create Disney magic for you during your vacation with Disney Cruise Line. Here’s how to do just that in your upcoming Disney Cruise.

Get to know Cast Members

Whilst interactions with Cast Members in the Disney Parks can often be short and rushed, a Disney Cruise offers you plenty of time to interact with Cast Members, get to know them and share experiences with them too. Ask many Guests, and they will tell you that it’s one of the most magical parts of a Disney Cruise. This is not just limited to your dining servers and stateroom host either. Guests have plenty of opportunities to interact with the Cruise Staff team (they host all of the fun activities on the Disney ships), merchandise Cast Members, Disney Cruise Line photographers, Youth Activities counselors, lifeguards , pool hosts, and many more.

Our tip is to chat with all Cast Members, find out about where they call home, ask them about their Disney journey and the Disney Cruise ships they’ve called home, tell them about where you’re from, and spend time with them. It makes your cruise even more magical, but you’ll also find that the Cast Members feel like friends. They’ll say hi to you, create even more magic for you, and you may even see them on future Disney Cruises too! You may even get a Magical Moment card hung on your fish hanger at the end of your cruise!

dcl-magical-moment

Mention them on your Guest Comment Card

On the last night of every Disney Cruise, your stateroom host will leave a questionnaire in your stateroom for you to complete before disembarking the ship. This Guest Comment card is your chance to provide feedback from your Disney Cruise. On the final page, there is also a question for you to answer: ‘are there any Crew Members who made your cruise experience particularly magical?’ Make sure to add the names of the Crew Members who helped to make your Disney cruise magical in this section. This is a great place to mention Cast Members who you interacted with on Castaway Cay if they made your day a little extra magical.

Handwritten letters

If there are any Crew Members that you’d like to give a special thank you to, be sure to stop by Guest Services on the final full day of your Disney Cruise. Cast Members can give you Disney Cruise Line notepaper and envelope to allow you to handwrite a personalized letter for a Crew Member. This is delivered directly to them and is a way of showing your appreciation for their hard work. Having spoken to Crew Members who have received our letters, they are incredibly grateful for the time you take out of your Cruise to create magic for them!

‘Thank you for creating the magic’ cards

If you like to plan ahead, you may wish to print your own ‘thank you’ cards ahead of your Disney Cruise that you can personalize and hand out before your time on the ship comes to an end. Doing this will also mean that you get to give your cards to each Cast Member yourself.

Pouches filled with Candy

Another magical way of saying ‘thank you’ is to fill little pouches with candy. Tie them with some ribbon and a ‘thank you’ gift tag, before handing them to Cast Members when you see them for the final time during your cruise. Not only will they be really grateful but you may also be giving them a taste of home!

See where they are headed next

Disney Cruise Line Crew Members do not always stay on the same Disney ship. Different contracts may mean that they move from one cruise ship to another. Chatting with Crew Members to see where their Disney journey will take them next may allow you to have future interactions with them. This is particularly helpful if you already have another Disney Cruise reservation, or you have put a placeholder down.

We sailed on the Disney Magic last summer, and had another Disney Cruise booked for January 2022. Our Head Server was incredible and we struck up a real bond with him aboard the Disney Magic. When we found out he was headed to the Disney Dream, which was the ship we were cruising on in January, we knew that we’d request him to be our Head Server once again. Once we had embarked on our January cruise, we were able to request to be in his dining rotation. It was a special experience to be served by him and his team once more! He has now embarked on the Disney Wish, and we hope to have the pleasure of dining with him again in the future.

So, our top tip is to request specific Crew Members if you have previously received exceptional Guest Service from them on previous Disney Cruises. Being welcomed on board a Cruise Ship by Cast Members, you know feels like you are seeing family once more!

dcl-crew-member

Remember, you can make just as much magic for Disney Cast Members as they can for you during your Disney vacation. Showing recognition, appreciation, and thanking them means a great deal to all Crew Members onboard Disney Cruise Line.

REVIEW: We Ate EVERYTHING At Disney’s NEW Cruise Destination — Lookout Cay!

By Robin Burks Leave a Comment

Have you ever wanted to take a Disney Cruise?

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Concept art for Lookout Cay

Setting sail with Disney Cruise Line is a completely different kind of adventure than you’ll have in Disney Parks, and we recommend trying it at least once. We are currently on the Disney Magic Cruise Ship, and we got to be among the first people to see Disney’s new private destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Of course, we checked ALL the food to bring you some honest reviews.

Disney designed Lookout Cay by working closely with Bahamian artists and advisors to create an authentic Bahamas island experience. The market-style dining spot here is True-True Too BBQ, a restaurant inspired by seashells with shaded seating.  However, you can also dine at Serenity Bay BBQ , a very similar spot, as well as check out tons of smaller bars such as Mangroves & Go , like we did!

The atmosphere surrounding these restaurants is gorgeous! Eleuthera is a stunning island — the sand is white, the water a clear turquoise blue, and we loved the rocky outcroppings that went into the ocean.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

However, we noticed that seating was very hard to come by at True-True Too BBQ and Serenity Bay BBQ (two of our reporters waited 10 minutes for a table and the others shared a table with other guests). Unfortunately the island was also still working out some kinks, such as HUNDREDS of flies being around all the food.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

True-True Too BBQ

We also miss the fact that on Castaway Cay, you have options where you’d like to eat. Here, both Serenity Bay BBQ and True-True Too BBQ have the same menu, and every single bar has the same drinks and bites to eat , so there’s no one spot that’s better than the other.

At Mangroves & Co, we grabbed three drinks, starting with the Bahama Brew . This was very smooth coffee! It doesn’t feel weighed down with sugar even though it does taste very sweet. There’s a very light bitterness and while it’s non-alcoholic, it reminds us of Bailey’s! The whipped cream also tasted nice and was a high quality.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Bahama Brew

We also tried the Eleuthera Swirl , which was very sweet ! There’s a pineapple boba hiding in here, and the whole drink is on the tart side when it comes to the flavor profile , and has an equal taste of mango and pineapple.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Eleuthera Swirl

Our last drink was the Junkanoo , which we really loved! It’s a little milky but has a really nice, light vanilla flavor. We tasted the lavender, but it’s manageable and not overpowering. This drink is silky smooth but still refreshing in the heat , and the chocolate straw is really cool! It tastes perfectly like chocolate and does make the drink a little sweeter as you sip.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Moving onto Serenity Bay BBQ and True-True Too BBQ (we’ll review them together since they had very similar menus), the food quality was good, but it wasn’t great overall. Serenity Bay BBQ had fewer options than True-True though , but we’re unsure if that will be a normal occurrence or if it was just because it was the Cast Members’ first time on the island, too.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Serenity Bay BBQ on Lookout Cay

Disney Cruise Tshirt

We also noticed that some of the serving logistics were off — while most of the food was buffet style, we did notice that some of the fruit was out of reach, so that would have to be served to you.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Serenity Bay BBQ Fruit

Quality wise, the basics and meats were fine , but nothing outstanding. The chicken was moist and well-seasoned, but the mac and cheese tasted almost exactly like Stouffers to us.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Our plate at Serenity Bay BBQ

However, we loved the salads, especially the Pineapple Black Bean Salad ! It was sweet, delicious, and exactly what you’d want on a hot beach day. And we also want to shoutout the Potato Salad, which had a surprising amount of flavor, big chunks of tomato, and hard boiled egg pieces.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Our burger from True-True Too BBQ

All that being said… we did like it better than the food on Castaway Cay , which is saying something!

Nosh or not…

Check out True-True Too BBQ/Serenity Bay BBQ if..

  • You’re looking to get the full Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point experience!
  • You don’t want to go all the way back to the ship for lunch
  • You’re not expecting fantastic food — just decent food that will fill you up for your beach day

Skip out on True-True Too BBQ and Serenity Bay BBQ if…

  • You’re expecting/hoping for some high quality food (we suggest heading back to the ship)
  • You’re not a fan of BBQ
  • You don’t like eating outside

Overall, we think these dining spots are solid to eat at during your beach day, but you may find the food quality to be lower than what you’d find on board , so keep that in mind! We also recommend preparing yourself to have to wait for a few minutes to find a spot to eat, or be prepared to eat with other guests to sit down faster!

FULL GUIDE to Pixar Day at Sea on Disney Cruise Line!

by Madison Owens · April 25, 2024

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

There are a lot of different options when it comes to setting sail with Disney Cruise Line — there are five different ships to choose from, with a new one debuting by the end of the year , and another one in the works . They all have exclusive features and sail to a variety of destinations, so how do you choose which ship is right for you?

Disney Cruise Line

Photo: Disney

Well, obviously, the places you want to sail to should be the first thing you consider! But, beyond that, some ships offer special themed days during their voyage that might sway your decision.

disney cruise line discounts for cast members

Disney Fantasy Atrium

We recently sailed on the Disney Fantasy and experienced their Pixar Day at Sea. And now, we’ve got a full breakdown of the event so you can see if it’s right for you, or know what to expect if you’re taking the same journey soon!

Pixar Day at Sea

Pixar Day at Sea is an official day during your cruise. We were on the seven night Western Caribbean cruise and our Pixar Day was on our second day at sea.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

There are a ton of different things to do, from seeing exclusive characters to participating in some exciting events, so let’s break it down!

The theming of this cruise is obviously all about Pixar! Disney adds a themed window cling to your veranda door the night before Pixar Day at Sea.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

The screen on the top deck — Funnel Vision — has the Pixar Day at Sea logo screen on it until the first movie of the day begins.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

There is also a giant Pixar Day at Sea Luxo Ball backdrop in the atrium throughout the entire cruise for you to take pictures in front of!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

We spotted banners in the cabanas on Pixar Day at Sea, like this one of Flik…

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

…and this one of Russell and Carl.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

They were also seen by Flo’s V-8 Cafe!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

So much fun!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Something very cute is that at the end of your Pixar Day at Sea, there is a Wall-E blanket animal waiting for you in your room! There could be other characters that are made, but we got Wall-E and we were so happy to see him!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

You can meet a bunch of fun Pixar characters throughout your cruise! Some of them will require reservations, but others will not.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

We met Bo Peep from Toy Story, who doesn’t require a reservation and meets multiple times during the cruise. She’s exclusive to the Pixar Day at Sea cruise!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

You can also meet Buzz Lightyear…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…and Jessie!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

All of these characters will give you a card with their autographs on it instead of signing individual autographs.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

You can meet more Toy Story characters (Woody, Jessie, & Bullseye) during the Hey Howdy Breakfast on the cruise, which is offered on two days during the cruise and is reservation only.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Rex is also available on the cruise, but he’s reservation only and you have to book a time to meet him before your cruise begins.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

We definitely suggest scheduling this meet and greet because he’s super cool and very popular!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

After we met with Rex, Cast Members said they had a surprise for us if we walked down a little further, and we saw Buzz again! On a different day of the cruise the surprise character down here was Bo Peep.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Merida from Brave also meets throughout the entire cruise!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Joy and Sadness from Inside Out began meeting guests the night before Pixar Day at Sea.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

They had a fun Inside Out backdrop behind them and we’re very popular!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Mike and Sulley were meeting in from of stateroom door 2319!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

The door even had Boo magnets on it — so cute.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Here’s a closer look:

These two characters will also give you an autograph card when you meet them.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

The Incredibles meet during the cruise as well, but they are reservation only! It rotated between Frozone and Mr. Incredible and Edna Mode and Mrs. Incredible. We got to meet the latter!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

These characters were super popular but they did have some availability pop up while we were on the cruise.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

A character exclusive to Pixar Day at Sea is Miguel from Coco. He was very popular, with his line being about an hour long wait for all three of his meeting times throughout the day.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Remy from Ratatouille meets during a few days on the cruise but he has very high demand! The rat had the longest lines we saw to meet a character during the cruise.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Finally, you can meet Mickey and Minnie Mouse in their Pixar Outfits at the end of Pixar Day at Sea!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Animators Palette — Undersea Magic with Crush

During one night of our cruise, we went to this themed dinner at Animator’s Palate!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

The food itself isn’t themed, but the restaurant is. All of the shelves have Pixar props and the screens around the room will display some of your favorite characters from Finding Nemo!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

The restaurant has a lot of blue lighting, making you feel like you’re actually under the sea.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Animator’s Palate

Similar to Turtle Talk with Crush in EPCOT, Crush actually talks to you during this dinner! He will come around to your table and visit. He might even ask if he can take a “shelfie” with you!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Some of the things Crush talked to us about were what we did on the ship that day and where we’re all from.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Then, the fish that form pictures with their school come around and you can play charades with them! You have to try and guess what object they’re forming into.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Bruce also swims in and out of the frames along with the other fish and friends from Nemo’s tank.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Now, let’s talk about the food. First of all, know that you can get a Crush souvenir sipper cup during this dinner — he’s so fun!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Here’s a look at the menu!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

For our appetizer, we got the Sliced Serrano Ham with Manchego cheese and olive tapenade.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

We also tried the Black Truffle Pasta Purseittes. These are pasta purses filled with truffle-scented cheese and coated with a delicate champagne sauce.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

For our soup and salad course, we got the Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese Soup with bacon bits and chives.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Then, for our main course, we got the Ginger-Teriyaki dusted Angus Beef Tenderloin. This is served on top of wasabi mashed potatoes with bok choy and a tamarind barbecue reduction.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

For dessert, we got the signature dessert, which is the Lemon Icebox Pie. This is served with lemon curd and berry creme.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Here’s a look at the other dessert options:

Pixar Dinner

On Pixar Day at Sea, you can enjoy the Pixar Dinner at all of the rotational dining locations. This dinner has California-inspired fare themed to Pixar Animation Studios.

We started with some specialty cocktails! This is The Vespa, which is Duke Kentucky Straight Bourbon, fresh lemon, and Pinot noir.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

We thought this was like a playful take on a sidecar — it was delicious and not too sweet! You can definitely taste the bourbon but the Pinot noir mellows it out.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

We also tried the Chef’s Hat, which is a non-alcoholic cocktail with coconut, pineapple, banana, and cotton candy.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

This is good — it’s like coconut Dole whip but you also get some of that cotton candy flavor.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

For our appetizer, we got Russell’s Baked Shrimp “Mac and Cheese.” This had chili fried shrimp, cavatappi, white cheddar, and gruyere cheese. It was really good but we still think it could’ve been a bit cheesier!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

For soup, we got the Yeast of Eden’s Cream of Broccoli Soup which came with Pizza Dough Croutons. This was seasoned well and delicious!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

For our main, we got a vegetarian dish — the Lava “Poke” Bowl. This came with tofu, tamari, cucumber, red cabbage, radish, brown rice, sesame, avocado, cilantro, and wasabi lemon drizzle. This is also gluten free!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

This dish was just okay. The flavors didn’t really mesh together to become one cohesive dish, and there wasn’t much flavor to begin with.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

For dessert, we got Coco’s Strawberry Churros Calientes. These had strawberry sugar crystals on the outside and came with a double chocolate sauce.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

These were very crunchy thanks to that sugar on the outside and a delightful way to finish dinner!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

We also got the signature dessert, which was the Playful Pixar ball! This was a baked vanilla cheesecake with blueberry filling and lemon almond cake.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

It’s so cute! The lemon and blueberry are very subtle and compliment the cheesecake well.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Here’s a look at the other desserts on the menu!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Other Pixar Food on Board

If you’re looking for some Pixar-themed snacks, you can find a bunch over at Sweet on You for an extra cost! They’re available throughout the entire length of your cruise.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

You can get things like a pack of macarons or Toy Story letter blocks…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…Rice Krispy Treats, marshmallow sticks, dipped Oreos…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…chocolate-dipped strawberries…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…and character cupcakes…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…like this Lightning McQueen one!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

At the cafes aboard the ship, you can get Pixar characters put on the top of your coffee!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

There are also Pixar novelty cups and popcorn buckets available on the ship all week for an additional fee.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

These popcorn buckets are $20 each and will get you $1 refills on popcorn.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

During Pixar Day at Sea, the drinks are themed to Pixar. We got this non-alcoholic drink called Balloons that was themed to Up .

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

This had pineapple Dole whip and strawberry puree with bubble gum flavor that added some nice sweetness. We really liked it!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

There are a ton of themed activities on board during this cruise! First up, we checked out Sarge Says, which is essentially Simon Says with the Green Army Men from Toy Story.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

This is mostly geared toward kids but can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The room lights up when Sarge tells you to do things like dance, salute, and march.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

But, the best part is that you get to take a picture with the Green Army Men at the end!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Open Mike Nite happened two times on our trip, once before Pixar Day at Sea and once during. There are three unknown judges and guests are brought on stage to help tell jokes and get the audience to laugh in order to fill the scream canister!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

At the end, Mike Wazowski himself comes out and everyone takes a bow. It’s basically like an open mic at a comedy club.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

If you want to go on a scavenger hunt, check out the Wilderness Explorer Shipshape Adventure Scavenger Hunt, which only happens during Pixar Day at Sea. Window clings are added around the ship and you have to find them all and figure out what word they’re spelling.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

At the end of the day, there’s a Wilderness Explorer meeting where you earn a badge (a stamp on your paper) if you’ve figured out the word and you get to meet Dug and Russell from Up !

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

To channel your inner animator, you can attend Learn to Draw Animation Academy, which was available for the entire day during Pixar Day at Sea. You learn to draw different Pixar characters!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

We ended up drawing Lightning McQueen, but we also saw options like Joy, Merida, Mike and Sulley, and Panda Mei.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Similar to this, if you’re interested in what it’s actually like to work for Pixar, you can go to Meet the Storytellers. This is only offered one time during the cruise with a different member of Pixar Animation Studios for each voyage.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

On our cruise, we got to hear from Eric Rosales, who has worked on Lightyear and The Incredibles at Pixar. He also showed us the process of how the Pixar short Self was made. And, at the end, the audience got to ask him a few questions!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

One really popular activity on the ship was Jack-Jack’s Diaper Dash! It felt like almost the entire ship turned out for it when looking around the atrium.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

During this, babies are placed on a mat to see who will crawl to their family member on the other side the quickest! So cute.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

If you’re looking to channel your inner fashion diva, you can check out Edna Mode’s Style Show! This only happens on Pixar Day at Sea.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Edna Mode will appear at the top of the stairs and scurry down to judge all of the Pixar costumes that everyone’s wearing for the night. Cast Members went around and asked people to be in the fashion show, which had different categories, like DIY, Incredibles, and Pixar Friends.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

You then walked the runway while Edna made some very nice comments on your outfit. When your group is done walking the runway, you line up for a group photo!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

If you’re looking for some arts and crafts, you can make things like 3D Pixar character crafts, like building your own Forky in the kids clubs on board.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

There are also multiple opportunities to partake in Pixar trivia throughout the trip…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…and live entertainment that focuses on songs from Pixar movies!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Some other things that only happen on Pixar Day at Sea are fun games like Dory’s Memory Game…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…Toy Story Boot Camp (which is only in the Kids Clubs!)…

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

…and Crush’s Pool Party.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Entertainment

There is a bunch of fun entertainment that happens throughout your cruise! First of all, you can watch a variety of Disney movies at the Buena Vista Theatre. Some of the ones we had on board were Turning Red, Toy Story, and Frozen .

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

There are also Pixar movies played in between other Disney movies on Funnel Vision on the top deck! We saw them play Hercules, Monsters, Inc., The Little Mermaid, and Ratatouille.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

You don’t miss out on those Pixar-themed deck parties! The Celebrate the Supers Deck Party features Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, Frozone, and Jack-Jack.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

The supers are introduced and Edna Mode also appears to show off her designs and how she has modernized them for the supers.

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

Then, they realize that Jack-Jack is missing! They try to capture him running around the deck, and then we spot him at one point up in the smoke stack!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

The Incredibles are able to capture the baby and everyone celebrates with fireworks above the ship!

Pixar Day at Sea Disney Cruise Line Fantasy Ship

There is also the Pixar Pals Celebration on Deck, which features a bunch of Pixar friends coming out to dance with everyone!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Joy and Sadness come out first and take turns dancing and changing the emotions and vibes of the dance party when they pass off the core memory to each other.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Then, Remy comes out and he dances and stirs a big pot!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

After that, Wilderness Explorers Dug and Russell come out and dance to “The Bird is the Word.”

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Miguel from Coco then comes out and gets you to dance along with him! The steps to the dance are up on the screen and you stomp and clap and snap with Miguel.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Then, Mike and Sulley come out and challenge everyone to scream to fill the canister that’s up on the screen.

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

Finally, the Toy Story Friends come out and dance…

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy

…before introducing Partysaurus Rex!

Pixar Day at Sea Cruise Line Fantasy
