Dave Angel , the man who invented saving the planet and who has dedicated his life to lowering carbon emissions, whilst getting a pound note, is set to take the UK by storm once more. Revealing in speech and song how he has juggled a remarkable life of petty crime, domestic bliss and early forays into the British porn industry, Dave is on a mission… a crusade … to warn of the dangers of impending eco peril.

On his journey around the country, Angel will be accompanied by the blazer wearing music hall legend and contemporary of entertainer Arthur Atkinson,   Tommy Cockles .  Cockles will  take the audience on a jaded trip down memory lane as he recalls his life in the business they call showbusiness.   Alongside them both, will be the authority on everything -  from fruit machines to affairs of the heart  -  the man who isn’t afraid to share his opinion,   Billy Bleach .  

Dave Angel says – “ Carbon footprint aside being on tour is great until Shirley’s sandwiches run out !  I am not eating fast food or processed sandwiches ”!

Angel, Cockles and Bleach are the creations of comedian and actor   Simon Day   and each featured in the BBC’s classic comedy sketch show,   The Fast Show .

Simon Day was born in 1962 and grew up in Blackheath, London.  He discovered a talent for stand-up in his twenties, winning a Time Out Best New Act award in 1991. After working with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, he starred in BBC TV’s classic   The Fast Show .  His memoir,   Comedy and Error , was published in 2012 and he has had two series of   The Simon Day Show   on Radio 4. Day starred in the sitcom   The Function Room   on Channel 4.  With film credits including  Shakespeare In Love ,   Run Fatboy Run  and  The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus  and extensive TV credits including  Heartbeat,   Red Dwarf ,   Jonathan Creek ,   Holby City ,   Skins  and of course,  The Fast Show , Simon is a legend of the small screen.

These NJ pizzerias are headed to this year's all-you-can-eat One Bite Pizza Festival

Pizza fans, save the date of Saturday, Sept. 14.

That's when the One Bite Pizza Festival, which debuted in 2023, returns for its second year. The festival, led by Dave Portnoy of YouTube's "One Bite Pizza Reviews" series, will bring together nearly three dozen of the best pizzerias from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut at Randall's Island Park in New York City.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, June 28.

These eight New Jersey pizzerias were chosen to participate:

• Brooklyn Square Pizza in Jackson, Toms River and Manalapan
• Bunny's Sports Bar in South Orange
• Calabria Pizzeria & Restaurant in Livingston

• Federici's Family Restaurant in Freehold Borough
• Lillo's Tomato Pies in Hainesport
• Santillo’s Brick Oven Pizza in Elizabeth.

Barstool Pizza Reviews: How did these Shore spots rate?

▶ North Jersey pizzeria named one of 22 best in U.S. by New York Times

Portnoy has reviewed more than 1,000 pizzerias nationwide and abroad, awarding each a score on a scale of 1 to 10. The New Jersey pizzerias chosen for the festival received scores between 8.3 (Santillo's and Bunny's) and 9.2 (De Lorenzo's).

Tickets for the One Bite Pizza Festival cost $149.99 and include all-you-can-eat pizza, access to an Italian dessert village, and interactive activities. There will be two sessions to choose from: 12:30 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 10 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit Santillo's, which burned down in January. The fire destroyed the restaurant, and the water used trying to save it damaged its brick oven.

"I told (Santillo) when it burned down, I'd be there to make sure he has the cash to rebuild it," Portnoy shared on Instagram. "He is an institution. So you're not only supporting all the local pizzerias, but you're helping rebuild a legendary spot."

It’s nice to have a friend, and Taylor Swift has plenty of famous pals that have been supporting her on her massive The Eras tour, which kicked off on March 17 in Glendale, Ariz.

Besides friends such as Haim, Laura Dern, Emma Stone and Shania Twain watching from the crowd and singing along to every word, Swift also surprised fans with onstage appearances. Despite  telling Swifties during night one  at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium that “we don’t have guests at this show,” the pop superstar invited Marcus Mumford, the  Mumford & Sons  frontman, for her debut live performance of “Cowboy Like Me,” from Swift’s chart-topping 2020 album,  Evermore .

Other music stars have also gotten an invite from Swift to perform alongside her on the tour, including opener Gracie Abrams, frequent collaborator Aaron Dessner, Taylor Lautner, Phoebe Bridgers, Ice Spice, Maren Morris and more.

Swift’s “No Body, No Crime” collaborators, “Bejeweled” music video co-stars and besties Haim were one of the first celebs spotted at The Eras tour, jamming along to the superstar’s many hits and dancing the night away on opening night.

The La La Land actress was just as much of a Swiftie as the rest of the Glendale crowd when she was spotted belting her heart out to the Fearless hit, “Love Story.”

Marcus Mumford

The Mumford and Sons frontman joined his longtime friend Swift onstage to perform Evermore ‘s “Cowboy Like Me” in Las Vegas.

After taking her family to opening night of The Eras tour, Swift’s “Bejeweled” co-star took to Instagram to share a snap smiling with the superstar. “Celebrating our amazing buddy’s first show of tour. Extraordinary. Found family,” she captioned the post, which you can see here.

Former Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Watt took to Instagram to rave about his experience at opening night of The Eras tour. “So much respect @taylorswift,” he captioned a video sharing his thoughts about the concert. “When your fans pay for a ticket, they are getting their money’s worth and some.”

Matty Healy  was spotted at Swift‘s concert in Nashville on Friday (May 5), sparking further speculation that the two music stars are romantically involved.

Earlier in the week,  rumors surfaced  that the  The 1975  frontman and pop superstar are “massively proud and excited about this relationship,” according to a source cited by  The Sun . The report followed news of Swift’s split from her longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn in early April.

At the show, during her performance of “Cardigan,” fans were quick to notice Swift mouthing the same words to that Healy was  filmed saying  before The 1975’s performance of “About You” in Manila on May 3.

After sharing some photo memories with Swift from tours past via an Instagram Story earlier in the day, the Law & Order star was spotted on the floor at Nissan Stadium in Nashville at the May 6 show of The Eras Tour.

Former The Vampire Diaries star Candice King was among the Swifties who attended the rain-delayed show in Nashville on May 7. “A Four hour weather delay (and every canned cocktail we brought in our to go cooler… and then maybe some of the canned cocktails our driver surprised us with) later… and the show went on!” the actress captioned a carousel of photos and videos on her Instagram account. “So much running, so much dancing, and even more singing all in the warm spring midnight rain.”

Swift’s longtime friend Blake Lively was in attendance with her daughters James, 8, and Inez, 6, during the singer’s May 12 concert at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field.

After sharing a passionate kiss at Coachella in April 2023, Shawn Mendes  and  Camila Cabello were spotted together at Swift’s concert in East Rutherford, N.J., on May 26.

In  fan-captured photographs  taken at MetLife Stadium, the “Stitches” singer, 24, and “Havana” songstress, 26, were seeing enjoying a night out during the first of three sold-out shows at the massive N.J. venue. A  video circulating on social media  sees the pair strolling to their seats in the VIP section, Mendes rocking a sleeveless white shirt and blue jeans and Cabello sporting a black halter top and colorful skirt.

Hadid also participated in some backstage shenanigans with Swift at the show. Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam is OK with being a nobody at Home Depot

Riding down the 101 Freeway in the back seat of his manager’s SUV on a recent rainy evening, Sam Beam is talking about his kids’ lunches — specifically about how annoying it is when they don’t eat what he gets up early to pack for them.

“Same thing with dinner,” he says in his soft Southern drawl. Beam, who’s 49 and makes spectral yet meticulous folk music under the name Iron and Wine, lives in Durham, N.C., and has five daughters with his wife (though not all of them live at home anymore).

“You find something new you’re excited to make, then you put it on the table. Totally uninterested. ” He laughs. “I’m like, ‘OK, tomorrow, you’re on your own. Best of luck.’”

He jokes because he cares: Beam’s latest album, “Light Verse,” is Iron and Wine’s first studio LP since before the pandemic, a period of creative frustration for the songwriter that he nonetheless believes improved his relationship with his children.

“I travel a lot,” he says of his life as a musician, “and as they turn into these teenagers, unless you put in the time, they don’t really give a s— if you disappear. I mean, they’ll hold it against you. But they’re not gonna say, ‘Maybe I could try to get close to Dad.’” Yet due to COVID, “I was suddenly around more than I ever had been,” he adds. “It was definitely a silver lining.”

The long stint at home might be why Beam sounds preoccupied on “Light Verse” with thoughts of time, memory, manhood and the delights and obligations of love. “What goes in is never what comes out / The hole in a yard ball, some pieces of seashell,” he sings amid a tangle of acoustic instruments in “Tears That Don’t Matter.” “You’re only empty as a lost and found / Sounds from a house, the end of a candle.” In the tender “Taken by Surprise,” he ponders the impermanence of a goodbye; “Angels Go Home,” a stark ballad shadowed with strings, closes the album with a rhyme of “sons and daughters” and “stones in holy water.”

Beam made “Light Verse” in Los Angeles, a city he’d visited frequently if somewhat begrudgingly for various promotional duties over the course of his two decades with Iron and Wine. “Usually, the areas where you’re working kind of suck,” he says over dinner at a Hollywood restaurant. The singer, whose piercing eyes and scraggly beard give him a wizened-philosopher look at odds with his sly sense of humor, is in town rehearsing with his road band in Burbank ahead of a tour that will bring him back here for gigs at the Bellwether on Friday and Saturday nights. “It’s hectic and kind of rushed, and then you just leave.”

Yet this recording project was different: Sebastian Steinberg, who’s played bass with Beam for about 10 years (and who also plays with Fiona Apple ), recommended he set up at producer Dave Way’s studio in the relative wilds of Laurel Canyon. They assembled a band of crafty Angelenos, including guitarist David Garza, keyboardist Tyler Chester and Dawes drummer Griffin Goldsmith; Apple even contributed vocals to a waltz-time duet, “All in Good Time,” with Beam’s breathy croon against her earthy rasp. The pace was relaxed, the vibe exploratory. Says Beam: “I’ve always loved that idea of people coming to California to find some sort of freedom.”

For all their ties to Beam’s personal experiences, the songs on “Light Verse” aren’t strictly diaristic in the style of so much 2020s songwriting; he uses his imagination to push real-life characters in fictional directions and often revels in the pure sound of words. “Doves are losing lucky feathers in the sky / Appaloosas in the moonlight going blind,” he sings in “Yellow Jacket.”

“I use things from my life as a springboard,” Beam says, “but I don’t want to have to be truthful to the story, like we’re in a court of law. A song isn’t an essay about a certain point I want to make. It’s engaging with language to see what happens.”

One of the album’s prettiest tracks, a delicately fingerpicked tune called “Cutting It Close,” opens with an unexpected couplet all the more jarring for how tenderly he sings it: “Long-lost friend of mine / I know we only f—ed a couple of times.” Asked where the line came from, he laughs. “My process is to just sort of strum along and hum syllables, and that phrase popped out at some point. I’m like, ‘All right, that’s pretty crass.’ But it sets you up for something complicated, which is a fun spot to be in as a writer. Where do you go from there?”

Several songs, including “You Never Know” and “Taken by Surprise,” employ refrains that Beam uses over and over again until the words become like mantras; indeed, the music’s intricate rhythmic interplay — “Anyone’s Game” is downright funky — seems as important to Beam as his heart-tugging melodies, even though he knows the latter are what his fans tend to prioritize. “Emotional porn,” he calls the thing for which he reckons people come to him.

“In another life, I hope to be a drummer,” he says, smiling. “I like to be in the middle of the movement. For me, the movement is where the voice is always coming from.”

As a guy on the verge of 50, Beam has been thinking a bit about where he fits into a music industry that feels pretty far away when he’s at home making uneaten lunches. He came up in the early 2000s “during the last vestige of the monoculture, where everyone’s looking for what’s coming through certain channels.”

The venerable Seattle indie label Sub Pop signed him on the strength of some lo-fi demos he’d made, and he was promptly “plopped into the lap of Sub Pop listeners happy to give a chance to whatever they delivered.”

Today, he watches his daughters encounter songs through TikTok’s mysterious algorithm and wonders how any new artist can reasonably predict anything about his or her career. Then again, Beam couldn’t have foreseen the success of his hushed acoustic version of the Postal Service’s “ Such Great Heights ,” which achieved a primordial version of virality when it was featured in the 2004 movie “Garden State” — and now has more than 84 million plays on Spotify.

Would he say he ever feels like a famous person? He looks around the crowded restaurant as if to say: Think anybody recognizes me here? (Even with the beard, that’s a no.) What about in Durham? “I mean, it depends where you go,” he says. “If I go to the hippie grocery store, they know who I am. If I go to Home Depot, they don’t give a f—.”
