Port Canaveral Cruise Parking (Where to Park) Options, Prices, and Map

Looking for Port Canaveral parking during your cruise? The good news is that you’ll have plenty of choice across all price ranges.

Parking Garage 3 at Port Canaveral

These days, Port Canaveral has turned into one of the busiest — and most popular — ports in the entire nation. Millions of passengers each year take cruises from the terminals near Orlando.

Of course, that means millions of people each year have to make their way to the port and many drive their vehicle. And since there is such a large market for a place to park, a number of lots have sprung up to offer you a spot while you enjoy your cruise.

One thing you should know — the port sits in a large complex on its own, meaning space for third-party parking lots right next to the port is sparse. However, the port does offer parking of its own at your ship, but it can be expensive.

There are other options that are more affordable, as long as you don’t mind a shuttle ride to the terminal. Most shuttles are quick trips (less than 10 minutes) and can drop you off right at the ship. Parking lots include these rides for free in their rates.

Below, we cover your parking lot options, along with details of each lot to help you find the right spot for you.

Port Canaveral Parking Options for a Cruise

Note: Most lots in the area charge parking fees for both the day you arrive and the day you leave. So if you take a 7-day cruise (e.g., departing Sunday afternoon and returning back the following Sunday morning), you will be charged for eight days of parking.

Rates below are estimated (including taxes/fees) and are subject to change. Want to save money? See our page on Port Canaveral parking discounts and coupons .

Port Canaveral Official Parking Parking at the port is by far the most convenient. Parking lots and garages are next to each cruise terminal, making for a very short walk to check-in. For that convenience, however, you will pay a higher price — $17 per day, including both the day of arrival and departure.

Parking is payable via credit card. Disabled parking is free of charge, if your vehicle has special equipment such as ramps or foot/hand controls, have a Florida Toll Exemption Permit, or have a Florida Disabled Veteran license plate. More details are here .

Given the proximity of the lots to the cruise terminal, we wouldn’t blame anyone for paying the higher prices. However, cheaper options are available if you’re looking to save.

Port Parking Space The newest lot to offer cruise parking is also the closest off-port option. It’s located adjacent to port property, meaning you can be at your ship within minutes. The lot offers 24/7 on-site monitoring, included shuttle to your cruise ship, and parking that’s a sharp discount to what you’d pay at the port.

According to the lot, parking runs $12.95 per day — about 25% cheaper than parking at the port. However, they also offer discounts that can get that rate down even further to $11.66 per day (10% off). There are also military and travel agent discounts available. A handful of electric vehicle chargers are also offered at the parking lot. Note that parking for Disney ships is not offered.

  • Cost: $12.95 per day, plus taxes and fees
  • Distance: 0.5 miles (free shuttle provided)

Sign for Park Port Canaveral

Park Port Canaveral Located about three miles (5-minute drive) from the cruise terminals, Park Port Canaveral is one of your many options for off-site cruise parking. We found a daily rate of $12.85 plus tax for an advance reservation, but there are discounts available (including 15% off for signing up for their mailing list). In additional, there are additional taxes and fees you’ll have to pay, but the rate is still considerably less than parking at the port.

The lot offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the port, which is just a few minutes away. Like other lots, Park Port Canaveral charges both for the day of arrival and the day of departure.

  • Cost: $12.85 per day, plus taxes and fees
  • Distance: 3 miles (free shuttle provided)
  • Website:  http://www.parkportcanaveral.com

Park N Cruise Port Canaveral Park N Cruise is located right before you cross the water to the port and it’s only a few miles from the terminals. The rate is $12.99 per day for most cars. Keep in mind that as with most lots you will need to pay for the day you arrive and the day you leave. All told, with taxes and fees the rate runs about $120 for a week cruise.

Looking for a discount? There are a number of specials with discounts of 5-10% for veterans, public service workers, AAA members, and AARP members.

  • Cost: $12.99 per day, plus taxes and fees
  • Website: https://www.parkncruiseportcanaveral.com/

GoPort The parking package from GoPort has a different spin — they don’t charge for parking but offer it free. Instead, you pay for the shuttle to the cruise port. They also currently only offer service for Carnival Mardi Gras. If you are sailing any other ship, you’ll need to find an alternative lot to park.

Rates start at $60 for up to four passengers for a weeklong Mardi Gras cruise. That comes out to $7.50 per day, or less than half what the official Port Canaveral lots charge. In other words, you save about $80 over the course of your cruise by parking here.

  • Cost: $60 for a 7-day cruise (Carnival Mardi Gras only)
  • Distance: 6.5 miles
  • Website: https://www.goport.com/

Port Canaveral Parking Port Canaveral Parking is located on Merritt Island, just about 10 minutes from the cruise ships. It charges rates of $12.95 per day for parking, which is roughly $4 cheaper versus parking at the cruise terminals (like other lots, discounts are common , including a recent ‘flash sale’ for 24% off).

There is also covered parking available, costing an extra $20 for your stay. A shuttle is provided to the cruise port until 1:15 p.m.

  • Cost: $12.95 per day ($20 extra for covered), plus taxes and fees
  • Distance: 6.5 miles (free shuttle provided)
  • Website: https://portcanaveralparking.com/

Cruisetime Parking and Shuttle Cruisetime is located southwest of Port Canaveral, on Merritt Island. It’s only about 8.5 miles from the port and the ride to the terminal takes about 15 minutes. Parking rates are simple — $10 per day, but that includes the day of your arrival and departure. Cruises of four days or less are a flat $50.

So it is $80 for a 7-day cruise and $50 for a four-day trip. Cruisetime also offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the port that’s included with your parking.

  • Cost: $10.00 per day
  • Distance: 8.5 miles (shuttle provided)
  • Website: https://www.cruisetimeparking.com

Beachline Shuttle Similar to what’s offered by GoPort, Beachline Shuttle offers “no charge” parking, but you pay for the ride over to the port. Unlike GoPort, the lot offers parking for all the cruise lines meaning you can save considerably over parking at the port no matter who you sail.

Prices vary only on how many passengers are sailing. If you need a shuttle to the port for two passengers, it’s $60. Prices are $70 for three riders and $80 for four. Contact the lot if needing space for five or more passengers.

  • Cost: $60 for a 7-day cruise
  • Distance: 5 miles (shuttle provided)
  • Website: https://www.beachlineshuttle.com

Individual Hotels   In addition to cruise parking lots, another option is parking at a hotel. Port Canaveral has lots of hotels near the port and many also offer free or discounted parking if you stay the night before your cruise. As well, they will often have a shuttle to the port on cruise day.

Note that some hotels require you to book a package to receive parking. Due to the health crisis, some packages may be paused temporarily until cruises return in full.

If you are staying in the Port Canaveral area, see our list of hotels that will allow you to park your car for the length of your cruise .

Frequently Asked Parking Questions

Is there free Port Canaveral parking? Yes, if you are disabled, then you might receive free parking at the port. For ports in Florida, cars for disabled passengers that have special equipment (like ramps, lifts, or special controls) can get free parking for their cruise .

As well, Port Canaveral’s official lots offer free parking for disabled veterans with a Florida license plate with that designation.

Where should I park? If you are driving in, your parking decision rests mainly on if you want to save money or want convenience. For those looking to save, we suggest parking at an off-site parking lot. Their rates are considerably less and you can still take the shuttle right to the cruise ship. The downside is that you have to wait for the shuttle going to and from the ship.

If you want the most convenience, check out parking at the actual port. Yes, it’s more expensive, but you can walk right to the ship. It also makes it easier to get back home when you return from your trip.

Why am I being charged for 8 days for a 7-day cruise? One thing we’ve noticed is that parking lots in the area charge an extra day for your cruise. Say you have a 7-day cruise that leaves Sunday afternoon and returns the following Sunday morning. In total, you were gone for seven full days. However, by the clock, your car was on the lot for eight different calendar days counting both the day you arrived at the parking lot and the day you depart. Even if you pick your car up first thing on Sunday morning, the parking lots charge for an additional day.

Can I park at a hotel for cheaper? Yes. As a perk to entice cruise passengers many hotels in the area have parking packages. Simply stay a night and the hotel will allow you to park your car and provide a shuttle to the port. It’s an easy way to save if you plan to stay in the area beforehand. See our list of Port Canaveral park and cruise hotels here .

I am being dropped off for a MSC cruise. Where can my son drop me off?

Right at the terminal. Just follow the signs!

DO THE PARKING LOTS PARK THE CAR FOR YOU OR DO YOU HAVE TO RIDE AROUND AND LOOK FOR A SPOT

I just found out that GoPort is working only with Carnival Mardi Gras indefinitely so you might want to remove them from your list.

Thanks for letting us know. Will update this article with the new details soon.

You listed Canaveral cruise parking at 6.95 a day 3 miles south of the port. Where or what site do I go go to find this company. I have tried searching to no avail

This is a lot that paused operations during the pandemic. They may not have returned to business.

Are you able to park a transport truck with flatbed trailer at any lots near port. My husband is meeting me and my kids there while he is taking a break from work and will have his truck.

Given the special circumstances, I’d recommend calling the lot to see what they can do.

These numbers dont make sense. 5 day is a 4 night. so arriv monday and leave friday. 5 days times $17 is nt 102?

A five-day cruise is also five nights (cruise lines don’t count the day you arrive back in port). So a 5-day/night cruise would depart Monday (1), Tuesday (2), Wednesday (3), Thursday (4), Friday (5), arrive back in port Saturday morning.

Parking lots here charge for the day you arrive and the day you leave. The parking lot would charge you for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. So a five-day/night cruise is charged for six days of parking. $17*6 = $102.

Just trying to find out if you have RV parking. Says you do but I cannot find any info about it

We are not a cruise parking lot; we’ve instead written an article about your options. The cruise terminal offers RV parking. If you need more details, you can call them at (321) 783-7831.

Have you heard of Port Canaveral VIP Valet? Operated by AutoCare Concierge. They offer a $99 flat rate with drop off service (your car).

Do they ever run out of spaces at the port? I ask because they don’t let you reserve a space anymore.

Not that we have ever heard of. If it were to happen (highly unlikely) there are the off-site parking lots as well.

Did I book my Parking for Sat Dec 30, 2017 ????

Mr. King, we are not the parking lot’s website. We just list the parking options.

Park n Cruise was great…prompt, polite and 1/2 the cost.

Guide to Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal Parking

The traveler's guide to port canaveral cruise terminal parking.

Port Canaveral is a popular spot. Cape Canaveral is home to the Kennedy Space Center and beautiful beaches, and it takes second place in the list of busiest cruise ports .

Did you know? After the Port of Miami, we see more cruise passengers than anywhere else in the whole world ( over 4 million every year )!

But being one of the busiest ports also means that we need some place to put all of those traveling cars throughout the year.

That’s where our local Port Canaveral cruise parking facilities come in.

At Port Canaveral Parking , we offer the best in  off-site  parking for parties hoping to save while they sail. With secure parking and complimentary shuttles for your cruise vacation, it’s easy to save money while getting the best  off-site  cruise parking.

But what about on-site options ? Today we’re going to be going over the pros and cons of parking at the cruise ship terminal in our guide to on-site parking at Port Canaveral.

Navigating Port Canaveral Cruise Terminals

Our six cruise terminals are 1, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 10. Cruise Terminal A is home to terminals 5, 6, 8, and 10, while 1 and 3 are located in Cruise Terminal B . The split can be a little confusing for travelers, especially if you can’t remember where the cruise lines are docking at.

Cruise Terminal B is where you can also go for a bite to eat, to see the port at the Exploration Tower, or check out CT-3, our brand-new multi-million dollar spot for the largest ships. Terminal A is less exciting, but it hosts more ships as well as the cargo piers.

Official Port Canaveral Parking

Every cruise terminal has it’s own official parking facility (although some terminals share parking spots). The port runs these locations, which include covered garage parking as well as uncovered parking lots located near the terminal entrance.

The parking spots are first-come, first-served , meaning there’s no reservations and no pre-pay. You can also splurge and pay a little extra for “preferred parking”, which some terminals offer for those who want to park even closer to the ship.

While convenient, we do have some bad news: it’s $17.00 per day for the basic parking at the port. That means that for a four-night cruise, you’ll be paying $85 in parking fees alone.

Here’s a short breakdown of the pros and cons of on-site port parking.

Pros of parking at the ship

  • Spots are right at the ship . It’s true, you wouldn’t be able to park closer to the ship unless they let you bring your car on the boat.
  • Many say it’s more convenient. When you embark and disembark, you never have to worry about getting to your car.
  • It’s pretty easy. Unlike other parking facilities, you only get one option. You won’t have to choose between locations. At the port, you get what you get.
  • The port terminals offer free cruise parking for vehicles that need parking options for disabled passengers with special equipment, for those with a Florida Toll Exemption Permit, and for those who have a Florida Disabled Veteran license plate. However, this is the only free parking option from the Canaveral Port Authority.

Cons of Parking at the Cruise Port

  • Being next to the cruise ships is great – but the covered parking lot is not just a short walk from the ship. There’s no free shuttle service, so you’ll be toting your stuff from the luggage drop-off on debarkation day.
  • There are no reservations . If the cruise parking lots are full for your cruise line, you’ll have to find other arrangements.
  • Prices are subject to change , according to the website for the Port Canaveral terminals. While the base price is $17 per day, you may end up paying even more for your cruise parking.
  • Traffic can be terrible, congested, and complicated for visitors. If you’re driving yourself, be prepared for wrong turns and sitting in Port Canaveral traffic.

Alternate Port Canaveral Parking options

When it comes to finding places to park, Port Canaveral has other parking deals for your cruise adventure.

We always recommend that parties park off-site. Not only do you get access to free shuttles that drop you off right at the cruise port, many places (like Port Canaveral Parking) offer security and top-notch customer service that doesn’t come with a sky-high price tag.

All of our cruise packages for parking involve no transportation fees (your shuttle ride is complimentary!) and parking rates that are nearly half of the terminal parking.

We go to all Port Canaveral cruise lines, including Disney, Royal Caribbean International, MSC Cruises, Norwegian, and Carnival. Make same-day reservations or plan months ahead to guarantee your Port Canaveral parking spot!

Port Canaveral Hotel Cruise PArking

If you’re staying in Cocoa Beach, there are some locations that offer Port Canaveral cruise parking. The Holiday Inn Express, Country Inn, Radisson Resort, and other hotels will let you leave your vehicle during your vacation.

However, these packages are often much more expensive than leaving your car at a cruisetime parking facility. If you’re cruising on a budget or want to save up for some souvenirs, hotel parking is NOT the way to go.

What People Are Saying About Us:

“The organization was the best of any city we have visited. You park in the lot anywhere, pay the fee, get a number so they can find your car when you return. They shuttle you to and from the ship in a smooth manner. When the ship returns, you walk to the same area where they dropped you off. They do all the baggage lifting into and out of their vehicles. Before you get back to their parking lot, they have all the vehicles moved in front so you don’t have to go looking for them. Kudos!” – Sandy B

“We kept our car with park n cruise while away for a week. Upon arrival the staff was very friendly. They loaded our luggage and we left within 10 minutes. When we returned they were already there waiting for us. I don’t know the name of our driver but she was very friendly. Would definitely use Park N’ Cruise again!” Jess F

Craig- Shuttle Drive r

Hi, my name is Craig, I’ve been shuttling cruise people for the past seven years. My wife and I moved to Florida nine years ago from upstate NY. We love to camp and do so every chance that we get. We have three children and eight grandchildren. I work this job so that I can afford Christmas presents for all of them….lol. I love my job and I love meeting all the happy cruise folks!

Joel- Shuttle Driver

I’m Joel from Kentucky. I am a retired Parole Officer and a veteran of the US Army. Driving our happy customers and sending them off to exotic destinations is the best part of my job.

Jodi- Office Manager

Hello, my name is Jodi. I am the newest member of the office staff at Park n’ Cruise and look forward to getting to know our loyal customers and meeting new people as well! I was raised in the Midwest, and have lived in sunny Florida for 20 plus years now. I cherish my children, the sunshine, and everything about the water!!! 🌴🍊🍹

Let one of our customers walk you through our Port Canaveral cruise parking process:

“Let me first say that I spent more than twenty five years in the customer service management industry, so I have experienced customer service as a provider as well as a customer.

Having said that, the customer service that I received from Park n Cruise 1700 Sea Ray Dr., Merritt Island, Fl epitomizes customer service at its absolute finest.

Their service was absolutely flawless. From our arrival to our departure I must say, proudly, they NEVER faltered. When we entered they immediately removed our luggage and instructed us as to the procedures to follow. We were checked in given further instruction prior to being placed in line and subsequently placed on the bus to the port after the driver loaded our luggage.

Upon return the buses were located just where we were told they would be, again or luggage loaded by the rep and we were returned to the PNC. When we arrived we saw our vehicle parked in one of the parking areas on the lot.

By the time we got our luggage and left the bus or vehicle had been relocated to the area where we were, keys inside and all we had to do was leave.

We cruise often and we have tried a number of providers, NONE, have been more efficient, more accommodating, nor more professional than Park n Cruise 1700 Sea Ray drive. Not only have we used a number of providers in Merritt island Florida, but in other cities and states as well and none compare.

Park N Cruise Merritt island, take a bow, you are the standard bearer. I can use this facility in the future and no matter what happens they can do no wrong… first impression that will never change.” – Charles H

Port Canaveral Plans New Florida Cruise Terminal

W ith the cruise industry experiencing substantial growth, Port Canaveral has announced a strategic plan to enhance its infrastructure. The decision to construct a new multi-user cruise terminal accommodates increase in demand and the burgeoning needs of the sector. The new terminal promises to improve operational efficiency and passenger experience.

Port Canaveral is set to provide modern facilities by utilizing the existing North Cargo Berth 8 area. The project’s expediency and cost-effectiveness stem from the conversion of current infrastructure. Greater operational flexibility, cost savings and quicker construction timelines enable Port Canaveral to better serve the industry and its patrons.

The plan includes the development of a terminal as well as a parking garage complex. Port Canaveral, recognized for its role as a gateway for sea travel, is taking a proactive approach, aiming to address the needs of new cruise ships and their passengers.

Keeping an eye on the future positions the port to continue its trajectory of growth and success. A new cruise terminal ultimately benefits the local economy, the broader travel sector and cargo needs.

Strategic Importance of the Port Canaveral New Cruise Terminal

Port Canaveral’s initiative to construct a new cruise terminal is a significant undertaking that is expected to yield positive economic and touristic outcomes. The proposed cruise terminal is not merely an expansion; it’s a thoughtful integration with the port’s current facilities. The new cruise terminal is setting new standards in providing exceptional service and seeks to meet increasing consumer demand.

Enhanced Economic Impact of Florida’s Port

The proposed cruise terminal at Port Canaveral is a multi-user facility. This aspect of the project provides significant cost savings and operational flexibility . The substantial construction investment is forecasted to boost the local economy by creating jobs. Analysts expect more local employment during both the construction and the operational stages.

Enhancements at the North 8 berth enable the port to handle more ships and thereby increase the volume of passengers. More passengers create ripple effects on local businesses and service providers.

New Cruise Terminal Has Potential to Spur Tourism Growth

Port Canaveral is reinforcing its role as a gateway to the attractions of Florida’s Space Coast with the new cruise terminal . By anticipating the needs of the ever-expanding cruise market, the terminal supports a surge in tourist numbers. With added berthing capacity and upgraded facilities, Port Canaveral will be able to welcome larger vessels and more tourists, which could help to reinforce the region as a premier cruise destination and mitigate the risk of a cruise ship accident due to overcapacity.

Port Canaveral’s Safety and Regulation Considerations

The construction of a new cruise terminal at Port Canaveral involves meticulous planning to ensure navigational safety, robust emergency protocols, and adherence to stringent environmental regulations.

Navigational Safety at New Cruise Terminal

Port Canaveral’s new terminal design incorporates advanced navigational safety features to mitigate the risk of cruise ship accidents. The inclusion of state-of-the-art radar and surveillance systems aims to provide clear and real-time navigational data to port operators and incoming vessels. Additionally, strict traffic separation schemes ensure safe passage for cruise ship traffic entering and leaving the port.

Emergency Protocols in Place

The terminal will have comprehensive emergency protocols in place in case of an incident. There will be clear evacuation routes, with signage visible throughout the terminal. The staff will receive in-depth training on how to manage various types of emergencies, from medical crises to security threats. Enhanced training ensures an efficient response that prioritizes passenger and crew safety.

Terminal to Focus on Environmental Sustainability

Port Canaveral’s expansion plan team are committed to environmental stewardship . It will comply with all environmental regulations , including those related to waste management and pollution control. Measures like shore power connections and wastewater treatment facilities will minimize the environmental impact of the terminal operations and the cruise ships docked there. The goal is to balance industry growth with the preservation of Florida’s coastal ecosystem.

A flurry of rockets will launch from Florida's Space Coast this year. How to watch Friday

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the location of rocket launches this year.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. − Two more rocket launches are on the horizon again this week in Florida.

On Friday, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying Starlink internet satellites will launch just before 6:45 p.m. You can watch live coverage starting 90 minutes before liftoff at  floridatoday.com/space .

On Saturday, Boeing's Starliner will depart with NASA astronauts bound for the International Space Station. The launch is currently slated for 12:25 p.m., and backup opportunities exist on Sunday. Should Starliner not be able to launch this weekend, additional opportunities exist on Wednesday and Thursday. Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams  have been in health quarantine preparing for the flight.

Forty rockets have launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center so far this year, putting Florida’s Space Coast on track to break last year’s freshly established annual record of 72 orbital rocket launches.

Most of the rockets are SpaceX, and the rest are NASA and United Launch Alliance, an aerospace and defense company.

As more SpaceX rockets take off from Florida this year, and at a faster pace, the launches have interrupted some events. In March, live coverage of a New York Mets spring training game was momentarily disrupted when announcers were awed by the sight of  a SpaceX rocket thundering over  the Florida ballpark.

What is Starlink?

More than 70 countries can now access Starlink high-speed internet service, and the constellation of the network's satellites in low-Earth orbit continues to grow.

The low-cost, high-speed internet allows people to connect online in RVs or campers in remote places, and from boats in the ocean, according to the company's website.

A Starlink satellite can last for approximately five years, according to NasaSpaceFlights.com , and SpaceX has been launching them since 2019.

Where to watch rocket launches this year

This Friday and Saturday, depending on cloud cover and the weather, all of Brevard County and the Space Coast should get a great view of the rocket liftoffs once again. Here are some of the top viewing spots we recommend:

Pretty much anywhere  in Brevard, you'll get a view of the rocket  launch. The best view to watch a rocket launch from the Space Coast is along the beach. However, visibility will depend on weather conditions and people should make sure not to block traffic or rights of way on bridges and to follow posted rules at beaches.

If you are viewing the launch along the Indian River in Titusville from Space View Park or Parrish Park, look east directly across the river.

If you are farther south along the Indian River, look northeast.

Playalinda Beach or Canaveral National Seashore is the closest spot to view liftoff because it is almost parallel to Launch Pad 39A. On the beach, look south along the coastline, (you can even see the pad from some spots).

Some hotspots to check out:

  • Jetty Park Beach and Pier , 400 Jetty Park Road,  Port Canaveral . Note, there's a charge to park.
  • Playalinda Beach , 1000 Playalinda Beach Road, Canaveral National Seashore. Note, there's a charge to park, and access to Canaveral National Seashore isn't always granted depending on capacity and time of day.
  • Max Brewer Bridge and Parrish Park , 1 A. Max Brewer Memorial Parkway, Titusville. Note, parking is available on both sides of Max Brewer Bridge.

Galveston cruise port: A guide to cruising from Texas

Melinda Crow

The Port of Galveston is the fourth-most-popular cruise home port in the U.S., having hosted 1.49 million cruise passengers in 2023.

While that's still a small number compared to the Florida ports ( Miami , Port Canaveral near Orlando and Fort Lauderdale's Port Everglades ), the Port of Galveston continues to grow. The ships are getting bigger, cruise lines are expanding the itineraries they offer from Galveston and, in 2025, MSC Cruises will begin homeporting in Galveston with the introduction of year-round sailings on MSC Seascape . The total number of ship calls on the port's 2024 calendar is 388.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Most cruises from Galveston visit the Western Caribbean destinations of Cozumel, Mexico; Roatan, Honduras; Belize; Jamaica; and Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands. However, you can find other options; for example, Carnival Cruise Line offers longer sailings (up to 14 nights) that include Eastern and Southern Caribbean ports.

Galveston itself is a beach destination worth spending time in either pre- or post-cruise, with a variety of hotel choices ranging from economy to luxury to historic. Families can find plenty to enjoy, and adults can enjoy the city's vibrant nightlife.

Terminals 25 and 28

Multiple cruise lines share terminals 25 and 28. Carnival rotates a fleet of four ships year-round in Galveston, including the line's Texas flagship, Carnival Jubilee . The fleet offers four- to 14-night cruises throughout Mexico, the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

Princess Cruises sails seasonally from Galveston, offering four- to 11-night cruises in the Caribbean and Bahamas.

Norwegian Cruise Line rotates a variety of ships seasonally through the Port of Galveston, offering seven- to 14-night sailings throughout the Caribbean, including visits to the line's private island, Harvest Caye, in Belize. Closest airports to the Galveston cruise port

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is in north Houston, approximately 71 miles from the Port of Galveston. Airlines that fly to IAH include United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Alaska Airlines. Delta fans can save with the airline's annual companion certificate via its American Express-branded credit cards.

IAH is a United hub, with airline-branded lounges in four of the five terminals, including a Polaris Lounge in Terminal E. Terminal D at IAH features an Amex Centurion Lounge with access for holders of The Platinum Card® from American Express .

William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is a bit closer to the port (41 miles) but is served by fewer airlines. Look for flights on Southwest Airlines, Jet Blue, American and Delta. Southwest offers the opportunity to fly two-for-one with the Southwest Companion Pass .

Houston Hobby lacks luxury lounges, but does have a Gameway gaming lounge, with access available to Priority Pass members via a selection of credit cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card .

How to get to the Port of Galveston

cruise parking at port canaveral fl

Cruisers have multiple options for getting to the Port of Galveston, including:

The port of Galveston is on a coastal barrier island south of the city of Houston. The main highway into Galveston is Interstate Highway 45. It is possible to arrive from the east using the Port Bolivar car ferry, but the potential for ferry delays often outweighs the extra driving time it takes to go around the bay to reach the I-45 bridge.

Car rentals between IAH or HOU and Galveston

Currently, only Enterprise offers rental drop-offs in Galveston. With one-way fees and fuel, a midsize car or SUV could cost $200 for an overnight rental. This option gains value if your travel group has plans for exploring a bit pre- or post-cruise. You'll still need transportation from the Enterprise facility to the port, a distance of roughly 3 1/2 miles.

Cruise line airport transfers

You can travel from either Houston airport to the Port of Galveston on embarkation day via transfers prepurchased from the cruise lines. These are usually offered to passengers who buy air through the cruise line, but even those who book independently can call to make the purchase.

Carnival has instructions online for booking transfers from Houston airports, including flight timing restrictions. The cost is currently $58.99 per person from IAH and $41.99 per person from HOU. Return transfers would be similarly priced.

Independent airport shuttles from Houston airports to the cruise port

Local companies operate shuttle services between both Houston airports and Galveston, either to the cruise port or to a Galveston hotel. Galveston Express has shared van rides starting at $40 per person each way.

Independent van/car services

Multiple companies offer private car service from the airports to either the pier or a Galveston hotel. SuperShuttle offers private car service to the port starting at $80 per person. Blacklane offers chauffeured car service, averaging around $200 from either airport to the port, for up to three people and two bags. A larger Mercedes van for up to five passengers will cost around $250.

Hotel shuttles

Roughly half of the hotels located in Galveston offer free shuttles to the cruise pier. Hotels outside of Galveston rarely provide shuttles to the port.

Taxis and ride-hailing services

Getting from a Galveston hotel to the port via ride-hailing service, such as Uber or Lyft , is possible, but not always your best choice. Galveston is a relatively small island and when two or more ships are departing on the same day, extended wait times for pickups at your hotel can cause delays and surge pricing can make the trip more expensive than you anticipated.

Taxis and ride-hailing services are available at both Houston airports. Taxis are metered, with fares averaging $165 from IAH. For ride-hailing services, follow signs and use your apps for directions to pickup points. We checked a prebooked Uber from IAH and were shown a starting fare of $98.

Public transportation

Galveston does not offer public transportation to the cruise port. The Galveston Island Trolley has bus and rail lines that are ideal for traveling between pre- or post-cruise hotels and on-island attractions, but it stops short of the port.

Port of Galveston parking

cruise parking at port canaveral fl

Galveston cruise passengers often drive to the port, so parking options abound. These include both official Port of Galveston parking and private lots. For guests not staying in a Galveston hotel, private parking lots are the cheapest option. If your plan includes a hotel stay and your hotel offers a parking package, it is almost guaranteed to be at a lower price than the lots closer to the port. Reservations made well in advance are recommended for all parking options.

On-site parking

Parking for terminals 25 and 28 is a bit spread out. Some lots have shuttle service, others are walking access only. The walk can be as far as two blocks. You can choose from covered and uncovered options, with prices ranging from $22 to $26.

Parking at the newer Royal Caribbean Terminal 10 includes shuttle services for all lots. All parking at Terminal 10 is uncovered. The price per day is $22 to $25.

Private parking facilities

Private parking options near the terminals include indoor and covered parking, all with shuttles. Some service only terminals 25 and 28, while others will also service Terminal 10. If the reservation form doesn't list your cruise ship or sailing date, it means that lot doesn't serve the terminal you need.

Prices are competitive and usually lower than official port parking. For example, Lighthouse Parking beats the terminal's official parking lots, offering covered parking for around $20 per day, with shuttle service to all terminals.

Some, like Galveston Park N Cruise, offer discounts for prepaying. That lot only serves terminals 25 and 28 (Carnival and Princess) and does not provide a shuttle because it's across the street from the terminal. Prepaid rates for indoor parking are as low as $18.50 per day for a seven-night cruise.

Park-and-cruise

If you plan an overnight stay in Galveston, the cheapest parking option is a hotel with a parking package. Many Galveston hotels offer cruise parking to guests who stay either before or after a cruise. Some offer parking free of charge; most charge a fee for leaving your car behind. The best scenario is a hotel with both a parking option and a shuttle to the port.

Hotels near the Galveston cruise port

cruise parking at port canaveral fl

Hotels are abundant in Galveston, all of them 10 miles or less from the port. Because this is both a small port town and a vacation destination, rates and room availability fluctuate widely. Whether you need a one-night stay as close as possible to the port or are looking for a longer stay to fully explore this charming beach town, here are some of the many choices to consider.

Hilton hotels near the Port of Galveston

For a quick overnight before your cruise, the DoubleTree is a good choice (32,000 to 168,000 Hilton Honors points per night). It has a pool and free Wi-Fi and is across the street from the beach. It also offers parking package options.

For a more resort-style stay, consider the Hilton Galveston Island Resort (32,000 to 338,000 Hilton Honors points per night). It's within walking distance of the beach and offers parking and shuttle packages.

Marriott hotels near the Port of Galveston

For an affordable stay with beach access, check out the Courtyard Galveston Island (30,000 to 59,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night). You can dine at its on-site restaurant or venture out — either by foot or via the island's trolley — to sample the island's renowned seafood. Wi-Fi is free for Bonvoy members.

The Grand Galvez, part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, is the city's signature hotel. First opened in 1911 as the Hotel Galvez, it is the only historic beachfront hotel on the entire Texas coast. A stay here (from 50,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night) is a grand way to start a cruise vacation.

For a hotel even closer to the pier and the city's famed downtown strand, the Tremont House is a luxury option from the Tribute Portfolio (from 55,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night). Its Blum & Co. bistro and wine bar is open all day and well into the evening for those arriving from late flights into Houston. The hotel has park-and-sail packages as well as transportation to the terminal.

Hyatt hotels near the Port of Galveston

The nearest Hyatt is the Hyatt Regency Baytown, a Category 3 hotel (from 9,000 World of Hyatt points per night). It's an hour's drive from the port, situated not far from Space Center Houston and the Kemah Boardwalk, if those are on your to-do list pre- or post-cruise.

Related: Why the World of Hyatt card is one of the best credit cards

Non-points hotels near the Port of Galveston

A stay at Moody Gardens Hotel, Spa and Convention Center is a whopper of a family-friendly choice. Besides the aquarium, rainforest and discovery museum on-site, the property boasts a beachy water park and lazy river, and a paddlewheel boat offering dinner cruises. The hotel offers cruise parking and a cruise shuttle for a fee.

Leaving the kids behind? The San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center is family-friendly, but its lack of attractions for children (other than a pool) means fewer children will likely be on the property. That makes it ideal for a couples or singles escape. The resort has ocean-view rooms and suites, four restaurants and a luxury spa to kick off (or finish off) your cruise.

Restaurants near Galveston cruise port

The food scene in Galveston includes everything from baskets of fish and chips done Texas style (which means it's probably wrapped in bacon and served with jalapenos) to elegant chop houses and seafood establishments. Choices line Seawall Boulevard and extend to the Strand Historic District and the Pier 21 tourist area.

Seafood is the predominant option, but it's also possible to sample barbecue and Tex-Mex.

Things to do in and around Galveston before or after your cruise

cruise parking at port canaveral fl

The beach is the No. 1 reason people visit Galveston. It stretches for 32 miles (more than 10 miles protected by a seawall and promenade) and is dotted with fishing piers, overwater souvenir shops and the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier amusement park. The best part is that almost anything you need in Galveston is across the street from the beach, including most of the hotels and restaurants.

The bar scene along the seawall has plenty to offer, from rooftop outdoor seating at Pelican and the Shark at the 61st Street Fishing Pier to the famous Poop Deck facing the beach. The Strand has its own concentration of bars, from classy wine bars to genuine dive bars.

Beyond the beach, look for a Texas original water park — Schlitterbahn and Moody Gardens. Kids and adults both can delight in the three Moody Gardens pyramids. One's an aquarium featuring penguins, seals and a coral reef lab. Another is a rainforest, home to over 1,700 exotic plants and endangered animals, including free-roaming sloths and birds that fly between the trees as you walk the trails below the canopy. The third pyramid is a discovery museum with rotating exhibits. Expect animal encounters and hands-on "edutainment" at all three.

Shopping near the Port of Galveston

For last-minute cruise clothes, swing by the Tanger Outlets on I-45, approximately 20 miles north of Galveston in Texas City. As luck would have it, there's a Buc-ees right next door. Besides the clean bathrooms, you'll find Texas souvenirs, out-of-the-ordinary snacks, drinks and even decent barbecue packed into a supersize gas station and roadside palooza.

You won't have trouble finding Galveston's Walmart and Target if you're looking to purchase last-minute snacks, sundries, bottled water, soda or wine to carry on board ( where allowed ).

Hot spots for beachwear, hats, sunglasses and souvenirs specific to Galveston are Dolphin World and the Mermaid Pier.

NASA Starliner launch to send astronauts to International Space Station: Where to see liftoff

Nasa astronauts butch wilmore & suni williams will fly aboard a boeing starliner spacecraft & ula atlas v rocket to international space station..

Godspeed, Starliner. After an initial attempt, Boeing's  maiden crewed flight  has been rescheduled, delayed and now possibly ready to launch.

Boeing is preparing to launch its  Starliner capsule on its first crewed mission from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station . And parts of the Southeastern Coast of Florida may get a peek at the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket lifting off into the sky.

As of Thursday, May 30, Starliner has a launch date of Saturday, June 1 (see below). If the launch time and date changes, this story will be updated.

On board the rocket will be two NASA astronauts. Flying this commercial crew mission are  Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams , both Navy test pilots. They have each flown in space twice (more info about them below).

Day or night, watching a rocket launch on the beach is  so  Florida. But can you see a rocket launch liftoff from Cape Canaveral all the way in Daytona Beach to Fort Pierce?

Weather permitting and depending on cloud cover, yes. We have suggestions on where and how to watch a rocket launch from Volusia County to the Space Coast to the Treasure Coast (just keep scrolling) along with information on NASA's Boeing Starliner rocket launch.

If you're on the Fun Coast of Florida, here's where to see liftoff of the ULA rocket

If you're on the Treasure Coast, here's where to see NASA Starliner launch

What is Boeing's Starliner?

Boeing's Starliner spacecraft will transport NASA astronauts. The company calls it the  Crew Space Transportation (CST)-100 Starliner, or simply “Starliner ." Set to launch no earlier than Saturday, June 1, 2024, it will make history as the first spacecraft to ferry humans from Space Launch Complex 41 in Cape Canaveral. The launch pad has been the site for historic missions beginning with the Titan rockets in 1965 and including the New Horizons deep space probe, the Voyager spacecraft, and even the Curiosity Mars rover.

Starliner will be launched with the help of a United Launch Alliance (a partnership between Boeing and Lockheed Martin) Atlas V rocket. The Atlas V rocket has launched from the site since 2002, but this will be the first time it carries astronauts to space.

What launches from where? Years after space shuttle retirement, Florida chases nearly 70 launches a year

Who are the NASA astronauts flying into space for Starliner launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida?

The two NASA astronauts flying this commercial crew mission are  Barry "Butch" Wilmore and Sunita "Suni" Williams . Both are Navy test pilots. They have each flown in space twice and both bring a wide variety of experiences to the flight.

Williams was originally a helicopter test pilot before switching to flying jets. She's preparing to fly to space for the third time, as the crew test flight pilot.

This will be Wilmore's third spaceflight as well. Before becoming a NASA astronaut, Wilmore was a U.S. Navy captain, fighter pilot, and test pilot, accumulating more than 8,000 hours of flight time. Wilmore flew the FA-18 Hornet and T-45 Goshawk, playing a role in missions during Operation Desert Storm, Desert Shield and Southern Watch.

Where to watch a rocket launch from Space Coast of Florida, from Titusville and Mims to Cocoa Beach and Melbourne
