Meet the New Cyclocross Bike By Trek - The 2020 Crockett

Trek (United States) - King of the cross frontier.

Crockett is more than just a cross bike. It's the ideal companion for your daily commute, the ultimate CX machine for your local race series, and a trusty steed for all your gravel adventures.

Cross race pedigree:

First and foremost a cross bike, Crockett comes stock with a spec worthy of the best athletes, including a race-ready 1x11 drivetrain and a full IsoSpeed cross fork.

Shoulder-friendly frame:

Whether you're racing a runup or taking the stairs up to your office, Crockett's lightweight frame is easy to carry and clears barriers with ease.

Willing to wander:

Head straight from the podium to the road less traveled. Crockett's generous tire clearance means it's just as at home on a lengthy gravel adventure as it is on the cross course.

Envy-inducing colorways:

However you use your Crockett, all-new faded colorways will have anyone you cruise past craning their neck for a second look.

Rule the urban jungle:

Hidden fender mounts and wider tires add another layer of versatility to Crockett, making it the perfect companion for even the harshest commutes. Potholes don't stand a chance.

Invisible Weld Technology:

If it looks like carbon and acts like carbon, it must be carbon--right? Wrong. Crockett has all the looks and handling of a carbon bike at an alloy pricepoint.

Trek 7200 Review: Features and Specifications

Frame and fork.

When it comes to biking, having a sturdy and reliable frame is key. This is no surprise since the frame is the backbone of the bike and can make a huge difference in terms of stability and control while you’re riding.

For the Trek 7200, you get a solid hybrid bike frame. This bike is made with Trek’s Alpha aluminum, which is known for its lightweight and durability. You’ll feel the difference as soon as you start pedaling, it’s that light!

crossfiets trek

What’s really cool about the Trek 7200 is its slightly steeper head tube angle of 71.5°. This makes it perfect for climbing hills and gives riders more confidence and balance on fast descents. You’ll be able to handle any terrain with ease!

And for the fork, the Trek 7200 is equipped with an RST CT-COM C5 fork with 50 mm of travel. For a hybrid bike like this, that’s more than enough.

While suspension isn’t usually a top priority for hybrid bikes, the suspension on the Trek 7200 is designed to absorb the bumps of trails and potholes with ease.

Finally, let’s not forget about comfort! As a hybrid bike, the main focus of the Trek 7200 is on providing comfortable rides.

You’ll appreciate the suspension and enjoy smooth rides even on rough terrain, and you’ll feel like you’re gliding on air on paved roads and smooth city streets.

Gears and Brakes

Gears are one of the most important components of any bike, as they can make a huge difference in how easy or difficult it is to ride.

Luckily, the Trek 7200 has got you covered with high-quality components from Shimano, SRAM, and Bontrager. These components provide precise shifting and braking, making for smooth and safe rides.

One of the best things about the Trek 7200 is its 8-speed rear gear. This provides a wide gear range that’s perfect for both commuting, riding around your neighborhood or even taking on rough trails.

crossfiets trek

You’ll always have the perfect gear to make the ride easy and enjoyable, whether on climbs or descents.

If you’re looking at an earlier model of the Trek 7200, you might find it fitted with 7-speed SRAM MRX Plus shifters and Shimano C102 front derailleur and Shimano Acera rear derailleur.

But in the later 2010 model, these components were upgraded to SRAM MRX Comp twist shifters, Shimano M191 front derailleur, and Shimano Alivio rear derailleur.

Either way, you can be sure you’re getting top-notch components that will give you efficient rides.

Now, let’s talk about the brakes. The Trek 7200 comes with Tektro linear-pull alloy brakes. These brakes are powerful and efficient, giving you the stopping power you need to stay safe on any ride. You’ll be able to stop quickly and easily, even when you’re gliding down a steep hill.

Wheels and Tires

Wheels and tires are crucial components of any bike, as they contribute to its overall performance and riding experience.

The Trek 7200 comes with a high-quality set of wheels, including an alloy front hub and a Shimano RM30 rear hub.

The Bontrager 750 rims have 32 holes and are more than strong enough for most commuters. These wheels are both durable and lightweight, and won’t weigh you down.

crossfiets trek

Trek 7200 has very solid tires, but depending on which model of the Trek 7200 you have, you may be riding on different tires.

The earlier models were equipped with Bontrager Invert Puncture Resistant tires, while the later 2010 model has 700x35c Bontrager H2 Plus tires with a puncture-resistant belt.

No matter which tires you have, you can expect good traction on smooth surfaces. However, on rougher terrain, the tires may not perform as well. That being said, the tires are puncture-resistant and should withstand most road hazards.

Saddle and Handlebars

The Trek 7200 comes with a soft and padded Bontrager Boulevard saddle that is perfect for long-distance commutes. What’s even better is that the saddle is attached to an alloy seatpost with adjustable suspension.

crossfiets trek

This means that your seatpost is more flexible, reducing the transfer of high-frequency road vibrations from your bike to your body. It also helps dampen the impacts of big hits from the road, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Also, the Trek 7200 comes with a Bontrager Approved handlebar made of solid steel and with a 50 mm rise.

You can always adjust the height of the handlebar to give you a comfortable fit. This means that you can ride for longer without experiencing any discomfort or strain on your back or shoulders.

Size and weight

When it comes to finding the perfect fit for your ride, the Trek 7200 hybrid bike has many sizes to choose from. With sizes ranging from 15″ to 25″, you’re sure to find the size that fits you just right.

The frame sizes are precisely 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5, and 25 inches, giving you plenty of options to choose from.

And even with all the high-quality components, the Trek 7200 still manages to keep its weight down. With an average weight of about 26.4 lbs (11.9 kg), this bike is easy to handle and maneuver on the trails.

It’s not too heavy to carry around when you need to, but it’s still sturdy enough to support riders up to 275 to 300 lbs.

How much is the Trek 7200 Multitrack?

The current Trek 7200 value is estimated to be less than $100, you will most likely find one going from $65 to $110. But, keep in mind that it would be a used bike.

If you happen to find a brand-new Trek 7200, though this is very unlikely, expect the price to be from $250 to $450. It doesn’t go over $500.

Trek’s new 2018 CrossRip+ cyclocross ebike will speed hardcore commutes

Avatar for Seth Weintraub

I’m in Wisconsin visiting with in-laws this week but when I heard that Trek announced its new CrossRip+ ebike, I knew it would be a great opportunity to visit the headquarters/factory in nearby Waterloo. I was neither disappointed by the factory, bike celebrities wandering the halls during the World Cup event , nor the CrossRip+ electric cyclocross which Trek let me take on a 10 mile on and off road test ride…

My day to day bike is a Bianchi Cyclocross so stepping onto the CrossRip+ felt pretty familiar. This is a commuter bike for those who like to ride fast with drop down handlebars/SRAM shifters and probably don’t need the assisted power for distance, more for speed.

The case study that this bike was developed around was a biker in Minneapolis that rides 18 miles in a little over an hour each way to work. With this bike he cuts his commute time down below 45 minutes, thus saving an hour every day. That’s a pretty big deal.

The assisted power is pedal assist only (no throttle) and provided, like all Trek ebikes, by a Bosch mid-drive system. This particular model rocks a powerful 350watt/28mph Performance Speed variant with long-range 500Wh removable battery on lock and key. It has solid components across the board including built-in lighting system, removable rear rack, hydraulic disc brakes and rear kickstand. It also has very aggressive mud guards which are much more for clean-pants commuting than off road or weekend adventuring.

Like other Bosch powertrains with the Purion display, you can easily toggle from no pedal assist to 7 levels of power – from “Eco” to “Turbo” which provide 120 – 20 miles of range respectively. It isn’t macho, but as long as I don’t need to go a long distance, I typically leave it on turbo and try to stay around the high end 28mph. Speed in my mind, travelling on roads that I share with cars, equates to safety.

crossfiets trek

I find I feel much safer on roads when I am travelling closer to the speed limit where cars and trucks travel and the CrossRip+ helps me do exactly that. Instead of averaging a little over 15mph, I can fairly easily attain 25mph and up to its 28mph assisted limit with the same effort. On flat ground, dropped down, 30mph isn’t a huge stretch on full power over long distances.

Compare that to our $5000  Trek SuperCommuter +8S with same Bosch drivetrain but large tires and T frame handlebars we reviewed earlier this year. The similar specced Bosch motor would absolutely help us get into the 20 mph range but sitting upright, the wind resistance gets too strong as you get over 25mph (though I got it over 45mph down a hill). Also, the top end range goes from a realistic 80 miles to 120 miles.

With Cyclocross wheels and frame, I feel way safer on roads where cracks and potholes could upend or rupture a thin tired road bike.

Let’s put the specs on hold for a second. The CrossRip+ is a ton of fun – that’s for sure. It is obviously significantly heavier than a non-electric cyclocross with the 350W motor, 500Wh battery and electronics – but it isn’t insanely heavy. It compares to big box store mountain bike in weight for me.   I would have no trouble taking this up a 2-3 flight walk-up apartment. Part of that is the aluminum frame, light wheels and carbon fork of the other CrossRip non-electric bikes and part of that is the continuous improvement in weight that Bosch seems to be making in its drive train.

crossfiets trek

When the pedal assist system is working like it is supposed to, it feels like it gives your legs superpowers. Significant hills feel more like flat ground. Pedalling at a 15 mile per hour clip is actually propelling you forward near 25mph. For me personally, I really need the help on the hills. It isn’t that I can’t climb them, it is that I’d rather climb them going fast in-turn making me feel safer. I also don’t arrive at my workplace is a puddle of sweat.

The CrossRip+ has a $4000+ price tag which will put it out of a lot of people’s budgets although some fall/winter sales might bring some good discounts. Also, like most Cyclocross bikes, this isn’t a dirt bike. Sure, it can handle gravel with ease and the occasional dirt patch, but during my test ride, I had significant slippage hitting turns in loose dirt. The added weight of the electrics will also be disconcerting to folks used to straight cyclocross bikes. Weight-wise, it can feel more like a beach cruiser when doing technical maneuvers.

Also some people will want to do casual riding on their bikes and the forward lurching, down tube handlebars make that a little more difficult than a mountain bike. Finally, it is available in any color as long as it is black.

Wrap up / Conclusion:

Even with just about 5-10 miles of riding, I can already tell this is going to be a very beloved ebike. For those of us that love the cyclocross form factor and want to make our work commutes faster and safer, this feels like a pretty easy buy to justify. There are very few downsides besides the price – which however is justifiable based on the quality of the components.

The bottom line here is that this bike is flat out fun and can take significant time off your commute while adding the safety of full time lighting and car-like speed. I anticipate Trek will be making a lot of these.

Speaking of, here’s some pictures of the factory in Waterloo, Wisconsin (between Milwaukee and Madison) where they manufacture pro bikes:

Trek CX Cup weekend is here! Here’s how to watch

crossfiets trek

Get ready for a PACKED weekend of fun, including a cyclocross World Cup race

Cyclocross season is back!

And even more importantly, so is the Trek CX Cup. The annual event at Trek Bicycle headquarters in Waterloo, Wisc., couldn’t take place last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now with safety measures in place , the biggest cyclocross race in the United States, and one of the best racing weekends on the calendar (in our humble opinion) can take place.

The main event is the UCI men’s and women’s elite World Cup races on Sunday. The women will race first at 12:30 p.m. CT, then the men will take the course at 2 p.m. for the last race of the weekend. But before then, the course will be in near constant use, with all levels of amateur races taking place beginning Friday.

crossfiets trek

Costumes: Encouraged.

If you happen to be in Waterloo, you especially won’t want to miss the Legends races on Friday and Saturday evening, when amateurs get to race next to cycling royalty (past participants include Jens Voigt, Sven Nys and Cam McCaul), and the only objective is to have maximum fun.

In sum, it’s going to be an absolute blast.

Click here for more information, FAQs and history about Trek CX Cup …

… click here to see a full schedule of events …

… and read on for more information about the big-time racing taking place Sunday.

crossfiets trek

Tokyo Olympic champion Jolanda Neff relaxing post-race in 2019.

Who's competing

The elite women’s race will feature a World champion and an Olympic champion.

Baloise Trek’s Lucinda Brand had a dream season in 2020-21, capped by winning the cyclocross World Championship in Oostende, Belgium . She’ll be wearing the rainbow stripes in Waterloo against a stacked field. Notably, Trek Factory Racing’s Jolanda Neff is hopping back on a Boone after wrapping up an XC mountain biking season that included a gold medal in Tokyo.

crossfiets trek

A host of young riders will also feature in the women’s race, including Baloise Trek’s Shirin van Arooij and TFR’s Maddie Munro and Hattie Harnden. Harnden is coming to Waterloo hot off an enduro racing season in which she won two Enduro World Series races and finished fourth overall .

In the men’s race, look out for Toon Aerts, who, along with Brand, won last weekend at the first Superprestige race of the new season . Baloise Trek teammate Lars van der Haar is also a podium contender, as are 20-year-old Pim Ronhaar, the defending U23 world champion, and 18-year-old Thibau Nys, the defending junior world champion and son of cyclocross legend Sven Nys.

crossfiets trek

Beautiful, sometimes sunny Waterloo.

The Waterloo course is unique and, dare we say, iconic. It takes a circuitous route all over Trek HQ’s backyard , weaving around grass (and after a few days of rain, probably a fair bit of mud), through trees and under/over three flyover elements that help make Trek CX Cup one of the most spectator-friendly venues in the sport.

Perhaps the most notorious element of the course is Trek Factory Hill, a steep down-and-up hill near the back wall of HQ. If the course is slippery, expect to see riders hopping off their bikes and running up the climb rather than foolishly trying to pedal.

crossfiets trek

Some local wildlife.

How to watch

For cyclocross fans watching from the United States, both the women’s and men’s elite World Cup races are available with subscriptions to GCN or Flobikes . Flobikes is also showing the races for Canadian viewers. Streaming will begin at 12:20 p.m. CT.

You can also follow Trek CX Cup on Twitter and Instagram for results, video, photos and updates from the event. Don’t miss one of the best sporting events of the year!

Lidl-Trek complete new 14-rider development team for 2024

US rider Cole Kessler part of Continental squad headed by general manager Markel Irizar

Lidl-Trek have become the latest team to establish a Continental development squad

Lidl-Trek have completed the roster of their new development team for the upcoming 2024 season, bringing aboard US rider Cole Kessler to round out a 14-rider squad.

The WorldTour team has joined the likes of Groupama-FDJ, Team dsm-firmenich, Lotto-Dstny, and EF Education-EasyPost as a top-level programme running a Continental development team next year, with such squads developing and promoting their own talent.

Kessler is one of 14 riders from 10 countries on the new Lidl-Trek devo squad. The 20-year-old makes the switch from the Israel-Premier Tech Academy team after two seasons there.

The Californian will be joined in the squad by Danish trio Kristian Egholm, Patrick Boje Frydjkær and Martin Pedersen as well as German trio Niklas Behrens, Louis Leidert and Tim Torn Teutenberg.

Lidl-Trek confirm Tim Declercq arrival Lidl-Trek make Sam Oomen their ninth signing of the transfer window Introducing: Cole Kessler, who joins Israel Cycling Academy

Cameron Rogers (Australia), Axandre Van Petegem (Belgium), Nils Aebersold (Switzerland), Liam O'Brien (Ireland), Mats Wenzel (Luxembourg), Matteo Milan (Italy), and Jakob Söderqvist (Sweden) complete the squad, which is headed up by general manager, the former Trek racer Markel Irizar .

"Honestly, I'm really looking forward to the start of this program," Irizar said. "To have our own project is going to be super interesting. It will be a long-term project so we can really plan for the future of this team.

"Looking to our roster we have more fast guys and classics-style riders. We might miss a little bit in the long climbs, but I think we will be very good in the sprints and the cobbles. For me, the most important is that we start well with a good image and that we are able to show the team spirit we have."

Team directeur sportif Sebastian Andersen – the son of WorldTour team DS Kim Andersen – said that he's excited to get started working with the range of talent and personalities at the new team.

"I'm immensely happy, completely over the moon and I feel proud and honoured to be invited to join this group of amazing people," he said. "I know the team very well as my father, Kim, is already a Lidl-Trek director.

"I know it's an amazing team and I'm really looking forward to being a part of it. After spending a few days at Trek HQ in Waterloo I've been blown away by how amazing the company is; the values and culture, you can feel that it's a close organization that also performs well.

"All new teams have to start from somewhere, but with the group of riders that Markel has assembled, I'm really, really excited about it because there is some really good talent in there and good personalities as well. I think with the young guys we can have a really good year."
