Copenhagen to Reykjavik
Crystal Cruises - originally founded in 1988 - offers a range of stylish luxury and expedition cruises, bringing a sense of occasion and high-end service to far-flung parts of the world. For over three decades, Crystal has gained awards and accolades by the shipload – and it’s not hard to see why. Operating a fleet of impressive ships decked out with opulent décor and contemporary innovations, Crystal Cruises takes comfort and adventure to the next level. From succulent dining to perfectly-organised onshore excursions, not to mention helicopter trips and submarine expeditions, the cruise line boasts of serious attention to detail, for the ultimate trip of a lifetime.
With elegant lines and sweeping ocean views, our intimate ship houses expansive suites and guest rooms, alongside a world-class choice of dining, wellness and entertainment.
Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.
When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.
We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.
With 300 modern suites, Seabourn Ovation proves smaller than the average vessel, only clocking in at 690 feet long and 92 feet wide. But what the elegant Adam Tihany-designed cruise lacks in size, it more than makes up for in entertainment, dining, adventure and relaxation.
Oscar- and Tony-winning musical theater lyricist Tim Rice collaborated with Seabourn to create a show. Savor American fare from respected chef Thomas Keller of The French Laundry fame at his onboard restaurants. Take advantage of the ship’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites excursions — Seabourn serves as the official cruise partner of UNESCO World Heritage — to get immersed in local culture and history. Then at night, retire to your luxuriously appointed suite, where a personal suite steward can stock your bar with complimentary wines or spirits according to your preferences, draw you a special Molton Brown bath or field any other request you may have.
Journey from Copenhagen to Reykjavik on a seven-, 14- or 21-day cruise for excursions that include visiting the small communities of Lofoten in the Norwegian Sea to learn about Vikings, observing nature and wildlife on Storstappen Island in Norway and exploring Jökulsárlón, a glacier lagoon in Iceland.
- One absolute must while aboard the ship is a meal at The Grill by Thomas Keller. The menu features table-side Caesar salad, steak, lobster thermidor, creamed spinach and ice cream sundaes. Be sure to order the seven-layer coconut cake for dessert. Keep in mind that while dinner is complimentary, each guest can only reserve one spot. The ship recommends booking prior to departure.
- The Grand Wintergarden Suite, the largest and most luxurious accommodation, comes with a spacious veranda, two bedrooms, a spa tub and double vanity, a sitting room, a pantry with wet bar, a glass-enclosed solarium with tub and day bed, and private dining room seating up to six guests.
- On the wellness side, Seabourn partnered with Dr. Andrew Weil, a bestselling author and trailblazer in integrative medicine. Weil helped add an onboard “mindful living coach,” a certified yoga and meditation practitioner who hosts seminars and classes during the voyage.
- Escape into The Retreat, a secluded alfresco area of the ship with 15 private cabana "living rooms" for relaxing. Each cabana comes with a specially stocked mini fridge, a large HD flat-screen television and the option to have a personalized spa treatment there. Emerge from your private hideaway to take a dip in the whirlpool or sidle up to the bar for another drink and friendly conversation.
- Don’t miss the ship's signature event, Caviar on the Surf. The shore-side extravaganza starts with friendly staff serving you ice-cold glass of champagne and bumps of caviar from a surfboard in the sea. Afterward, dry off and enjoy a barbecue under tents with live music.
- The Club has hues of raspberry and grape, highlighted by honey brown and gold, giving it the feel of a hip club, but also a place for ladies who lunch. Visit this swank lounge in the afternoon for high tea service, and then come back after hours to dance and take in the nightlife vibe.
- Spend day and night at the pool, sprawled out on a chaise lounge on the expansive sundeck. The area offers shaded places to enjoy the outdoors, roomy cabanas, two large whirlpool spas, and The Patio for a bite and drink. Stay after the sun sets for live music and dancing on the nearby stage or a moonlit dip in the water.
- Use Technogym equipment in the fitness center for cardio and strength training, with or without a personal trainer. Join in the complimentary yoga, Pilates and tai chi classes.
- Though the casual dining option onboard, The Colonnade features dinners influenced by chef Keller's American childhood, meaning family-style platters of baked clams, barbecue ribs and New York-style cheesecake. The menu changes each night, wine pairings are available and reservations can be made once on the cruise.
- The observation lounge is one of the best places to take in the view while sipping a cup of coffee or a craft cocktail. White leather chairs and sea glass accents add to the natural hues of the ocean outside, and long, ash-colored couches give the space a friendly, meet-your-shipmates vibe.

Cruises from Copenhagen FAQ’s
Can you walk into copenhagen from the cruise terminal.
It is possible to walk into Copenhagen from the cruise terminal, but the distance will likely be too long for most travellers, especially if you are in a terminal further away. Walking to the city can sometimes take 30-40 minutes, so we highly recommend organising a shuttle bus or taking a taxi from the terminal in order to save time, especially if you have a busy itinerary.
How far is the Copenhagen cruise terminal to the airport?
The Copenhagen cruise terminal is approximately a 30-minute drive from the airport. While pricey, taking a taxi or booking a rideshare will likely be the best option for those looking to travel to the cruise terminal as quickly as possible from the airport. Copenhagen, however, has a fairly affordable and fast public transport system, with travel times to the cruise terminal increasing to only 45 minutes. If you have the time and are willing to walk with your luggage, public transport might be the better choice.

Odyssey: ‘Forever ship’ with a permanent view of Belfast
The best-selling car in the UK in 1993 was the Ford Escort. Had you bought one in that year, by now it would probably need quite a lot of attention on things like the gearbox and steering. Likewise, a cruise ship launched 31 years ago is also likely to have one or two mechanical issues.
That is the best spin I can put on the fact that the good ship Odyssey is not, as planned, cruising the west coast of France this weekend on her way from Le Havre to Bordeaux. Instead, she remains tied up in Belfast – as she has been all summer long – while engineers work on her rudders and gearbox.
Odyssey has been reconfigured as a floating apartment block on which well-to-do people can glide around the world. She is following in the wake of The World , which calls itself “the planet’s largest private residential yacht”.
For years, The World has taken her extremely well-heeled passengers around the globe and back again. One long-time resident of that vessel, Peter Antonucci, revealed to the BBC’s World At One this week that a cabin starts at £2.3m with a £300,000 annual fee on top.
The owner of Odyssey , Villa Vie Residences of Florida, has gone for economies of scale: buying a ship with room for 1,000 and reducing the cost of ownership of an inside cabin to a “mere” £100,000 plus an annual service charge starting at £16,000 per person. In return, you get taken on a 42-month circumnavigation.
August 2025 should see you in Japan; the same month a year later it’s Vietnam; and back to Europe for the following summer in Greece, land of Odysseus.
You may recall an organisation called Life At Sea that tried something similar: a subscription model in which couples paid £60,000 annually for the most basic cabin. But every subscriber ended up disappointed and did not even step aboard after the tricky business of obtaining a ship proved too much .
The residents (not passengers, please) of Odyssey can at least enjoy their quarters and conform with the recommended onboard attire of “country club casual”. But the scenery is not shifting as much as they might have hoped. All summer, the ship’s sole location has been tied up adjacent to the BT3 postcode in east Belfast.
Villa Vie Residences promises “a global community that doesn’t just visit places but deeply connects with them”.
This summer the residents had hoped to connect deeply with the people of the Faroes, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Belgium and France through the summer. In fact, the “unforgettable moments of discovery on an extended journey, connecting people, places, and self” promised by the firm’s chief executive, Mikael Petterson, have been confined to Northern Ireland.
That nation has a formidable repertoire of people, history, landscapes, seascapes and cuisine. But after three unexpected bonus months in Belfast, even I might conclude that planned visits to Reykjavik, Oslo and Copenhagen would have brought some welcome contrast to life on board.
Instead, Odyssey has stayed put for repairs – possibly attributable to her long and turbulent career so far. She began her working life in the early 1990s as Crown Dynasty , and has since been reinvented as Crown Majesty, Norwegian Dynasty and Braemar . In that most recent incarnation, she hit the headlines: early in 2020, passengers aboard the vessel tested positive for Covid and she spent a couple of weeks as an unwelcome island-hopper in the Caribbean, being denied permission for port after port before finally Havana let her dock.
She spent the next four years moored at Rosyth in Fife, waiting for yet another buyer and identity. Finally she was chosen by Villa Vie Residences as its “forever ship”.
Eager travellers who had earned well could invest their capital and anticipate drifting gloriously towards eternity. Instead, they have so far found it impossible to leave Northern Ireland.
Want a car? You could pick up a 30-year-old Ford Escort for a pittance, but it is probably better to buy something newer and more reliable.
Want to cruise around the world? Book a round-the-world cruise – not a space in a floating-but-seemingly-unmoveable Ulster apartment block.

AI brings a whole new dimension to the challenge of organizational transformation
Let’s start with the premise that change is hard for everyone. As we’ve watched large organizations over the last 15 years try to embrace mobile, Big Data, the cloud and general digital transformation, we have seen many of them struggle again and again to implement these technologies. Part of the problem is technical debt, the notion that an organization’s tech stack has to evolve to take full advantage of the new technologies, rather than using a set of technical capabilities designed for a prior era.
