First I must tell you that we have home where we do Bed and Breakfast so we are in the tourist industry. Our properties are rated 9.6 and 9.8 respectively on booking.com. We were in the catering business before that for 20 years. We do know what we are talking about as far as accommodation and food are concerned. One of the hikes was really too hard for us normal hikers. The written guides warned of "if y you are afraid of heights" but Eduardo really didn't indicate just how hard the hike was nor how tremendously afraid one could become walking on a ledge 1600m up. Fortunately it was cloudy and I could not see down. The accommodation most of the time was more than acceptable but the bathrooms often needed some bleach around the shower and floors. We are very sensitive about mold in the caulking and elsewhere in the bathroom. However, the food was ghastly and virtually unedible by the time we arrived in Encumeada. We didn't complain because 1) that ruins our holiday even more and 2) that is what they serve on a buffet and that is how they do it. I don't know why no one complained...besides that being hungry before and after a hike, you just eat it anyway. There was no option besides finding somewhere else to eat, which we did when there was another restaurant near that looked more acceptable. We were constantly told " oh the food is great there, so that is why we ate at the hotels even when the meal was not included. That was at the hotel Hotel O’Colmo - Santana. We did complain about the food and asked to be refunded. No I did not like their lamb, it was tasteless. The breakfast was very bad so that even the coffee was horrible. The other hotels had very nice coffee. We needed a good breakfast for hiking and were hungry for dinner after hiking all day. The engulf hotel was very nice but the food was made to far in advance and of poor quality. We thought that was bad but it just got worse. We were also very tired to go somewhere else to eat after hiking and going to dinner then to see the dinner was not acceptable to us. There was always good bread butter and fruit (except in Santana) but the quality overall was really very cheap processed, cooked too far in advance, especially at Hotel Encumeada – Santo Antonio da Serra. It was definitely cooked the day before and reheated. We did complain to the management at that hotel, not just about the towels which had holes in them. I didn’t think to take pictures of the worn out blankets, molded caulking in the showers and floors, processed and overcooked food. I will never do a tour again where meals are included. For the price of the tour, I do not feel we received what we paid for. 200£ a day should have given us better than average quality. If I took another tour, I would not be getting the meals included!

Such a wonderful time island hopping in the Azores with my family, all thanks to Portugal Travel Center! The private tours were a great way to explore, and the stunning scenery left us in awe. Definitely recommend for a relaxed and memorable vacation experience.
We had a fantastic time. Exploring the island through jeep tour and kayaking was exhilarating. The whale watching and local food experiences were delightful, and the guides were truly local and knowledgeable. This tour was an unforgettable journey, would take it again, thank yuou.

i guess Tourradar acts a travel agent for many operators. This does lead to a slight disjointing of the booking experience, but they did pick some good tours to promote. As to the trip itself, put together by local Madeira tour operator MB Travel, and tied together by Headwater Travel UK. 'Marvels of Madeira' gave a good cross section of the walking routes on the Island. Pick ups and taxis were all smoothly present when needed. The Hotel stays were well chosen to give a great, peaceful and comfortable stays, if rather grander than needed. Being set on Half board meant no worries about extra spends - only the bar bill to surmount. As this was a self guided tour, the initial briefing was important and well conducted. My only niggles were the ancillary services. Tourradars travel insurance deals were not flexible enough to take on a peronally arranged extension to my stay, and the flight agency (Kiwi.com) had a hefty booking mark up. Otherwise, a great Walking holiday. Philip
Beautiful island, interesting walking and good meals. Great company and caring guiding.

Excellent, personalized tour, which definitely can be recommended. Little misunderstandings due to vouchers not always corresponding to the tour plan. Thx to very good communication with Bu Country Tours on the spot, the questions could be solved. Communication per WhatsApp ist great, provided you have Internet, which was not always the case, f.e. in Cha das Caldeiras, the Internet was not always working and this was exactly the moment, when confusion with the vouchers and the tour program became evident. With the exception of Fogo, the hikes started rather late (10:00 o´clock or later), when it was getting quite hot already. Suggestion: On the long decent from Cha das Caldeiras to Pai Antonios through wonderful countryside, it would be interesting to visit a plantation or farm and learn a bit about the life of the population there. Sometimes too much time spent with lunches in restaurants. On the last evening in Praia, I would have expected a more authentic restaurant with music and not one of the chique clubs for the jeunesse dorée. Best regards, Ursula Fahringer
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Boa Vista, particularly the excursions planned by BU country tours. I was met at the airport and welcomed to the tour by Admilson. My tour guide who I had for 2 days was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable and friendly, could not fault him. As a solo traveller I had hoped for there to be others on the tour, which there wasn't, only for half a day on the first excursion, which was initially a little disappointing, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. The hotel was fantastic, incredible location, right on the beach, gorgeous room with a view of the beach. The breakfasts were delicious on the roof terrace which had outstanding views of Sal Rei. A big thank you to BU country Tours. I loved my week in paradise.

A very beautiful place with wonderful landscapes, thermal baths, cheese and wine. Our guide Sasha was lovely and very informative as well as delightful to talk too. I enjoyed all the activities but do ensure you were good shoes for the home. recommend that a visit to the cheese factory is added the morning you arrive on Sao Jorge.

The hotels were very good. The car rental was a little inconvenient as it was offsite from the airport. The only improvement would be either to include GPS in the rental car or a proper detailed map. We arrived on a rainy, foggy night and it was almost impossible to find our guest house the first night.
Overall the tour was good. The response coordinating the trip was great. They did change 1 item on the itinerary but it was no problem. I didn't like the location of the hotel. There was nothing close by (shops, restaurants, etc.). This also wasn't a tour where you were with the same group of people. It was more solo where you met different people on different days and no one stayed in the same location so very little group bonding. It was nice on the days I had the rental car so I was able to get out to stores, restaurants and sights. The last day there was a dinner but it was so far from the location of the hotel, I didn't even bother going. Note: the canyoning was well worth it!

The apartments in the North and South were both clean and well kept. The breakfasts were good. Our room location in the North was a major problem. Our room was 415 which sounds good, but we had to take the elevator to the 4th floor and walk 49 stairs one way to our room. As we are in our 70's and we were vacationing in Europe for 6 weeks we had a large suitcase and carryons also. With no help on the stairs with our suitcases it was difficult to get to and from the room. We discussed this with the receptionist and we could not change as the hotel was full. I feel that we should never have been given this room to start with. The staff was excellent in both apartments both North and South.
We booked a self-guided tour in Tenerife, splitting our stay between the north for 3 nights and the south for 4 nights. In the north, we enjoyed a scenic hike and visited Loro Parque, ending one evening with a private dinner at Bernoulli's Steak House. Our 4* hotel had a beautiful beach view. The experience at H10 Atlantic Hotel in South Tenerife was fantastic, especially the quad ride and sunset at Mt. Teide. We also explored a mall and relaxed at the beaches. Driving around Tenerife was easy, making it a great destination for tourists who prefer to self-drive. Overall, our Tenerife trip was memorable and fun.

There was a lack of communication between the tour company, the guide, and the hotel resulting in us getting charged for things that were said to be included in the tour and then having to argue to get a refund for the double charges.
Take me back! ?. warm people, great food and beautiful beaches.. and ultimately, good customer service, ? keep up!

This was a fantastic tour ... an excellent experience. The excursions were wonderful and the hotel was well situated and clean. This was our first Wingbuddy booking and certainly won't be our last! Thank you.
I appreciated the contact on the ground switching our pick up from the airport after our plane was delayed. I had thought we might hear from him/her at some point to make sure everything was going ok, but we didn't, and everything did go ok, so it wasn't a problem. I liked the combination of short trips in a mini van with free time to do our own thing. The whale watching was amazing!

The hotel was very comfortable and well located. The daily hikes were really interesting, as a result of the excellent local guides who shared their knowledge and experience of the island. I found the hikes much more challenging than expected from the description of 'soft trekking' suitable for people up to age 90. The terrain was difficult at times and the hikes involved a lot of up and down hill.
Great tour package! Miguel was knowledgeable with the history of all the places and so good at navigating all the roads. The chosen hotel was conveniently close to everything in the city. What an unforgettable experience!

Atlantic Ocean Tours & Travel

Atlantic Ocean Attractions & Landmarks Guide

Millions of Americans live along the Atlantic Seaboard and are intimately familiar with the ocean. But until you cross it, especially by sea, it's hard to grasp its enormity.

Consider that the Atlantic runs from the Arctic Ocean in the far north to the Southern (Antarctic Ocean) in the far south. And to the east and west, such disparate cultures as Brazil vs. Sweden and Canada vs. Gabon also border the Atlantic.

The Atlantic encompasses the Old World, the New, long-established nations, and those just now emerging.

The Atlantic may not evoke the romance of the South Pacific or the exoticism of the Indian Ocean, but it has a rich cross-cultural history worth exploring. To get a sense of how diverse Atlantic Ocean tours are, it's best to discuss them by region:

The Atlantic Ocean's Northern Islands

Discover the enchanting world of the Northern Islands scattered across the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. Explore remote Arctic landscapes, vibrant communities, and unique wildlife habitats on these captivating island destinations.

Bermuda: It lies well north of the Caribbean Sea, has a cooler but pleasant climate, and is the wealthiest of all Atlantic islands. It's pristine, highly manicured, and remains part of the United Kingdom.

The Azores: It's a far-flung region of Portugal and geared toward active travelers. Nine islands lie almost 1,000 miles off Europe's Iberian Peninsula, offering an excellent spot for sport fishing, diving, biking, and volcano climbing among the options.

Islands Off North Africa: The Canary Islands, which belong to Spain; Madeira, a Portuguese territory; and Cape Verde, also with Portuguese heritage, are good destinations for off-the-beaten-path tropical touring.

Islands Off the Coast of Northern Canada: Saint Pierre and Miquelon provide a taste of France among the British-heritage Canadian Maritime provinces, including the large Newfoundland island.

The Atlantic coast of the United States: It's home to a diverse array of islands, including Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket in Massachusetts; Long Island, New York; the islands along the New Jersey Shore; Roanoke Island, North Carolina (site of the first European settlement in the current U.S.); Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; St. Simon's, Georgia; and the Florida Keys.

Northern Extremes: The southern coasts of Greenland, Iceland, and Norway's Svalbard islands form the northern border of the Atlantic Ocean and offer chances for Arctic and sub-Arctic explorations on boat tours.

The Atlantic Ocean's Southern Islands

The Southern Islands of the Atlantic Ocean offer tropical paradises and remote archipelagos for explorers searching for pristine beaches, rugged landscapes, and the untamed beauty of the southern hemisphere.

Sao Tome and Principe: Africa's smallest country; it's a beautiful tropical island off the coast of West Africa and makes an excellent offbeat spot for boat tours.

The Falkland Islands: Off the coast of South America, these islands came under British occupation after the 1970s war with Argentina (which claims them). They are an excellent place for hiking and other outdoor pursuits.

British outposts in the South Atlantic: St. Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha are remote British outposts best reached by small expedition-style cruises.

Coastal Europe

Explore the stunning coastal regions of Europe along the Atlantic Ocean, where vibrant cities and picturesque landscapes await. From the historic charm of Lisbon to the rugged beauty of Scotland's western shores, each destination offers a unique blend of local culture, history, and natural wonders.

Portugal: Discover the coastal cities of Lisbon and Porto, where cobblestone streets wind through colorful neighborhoods and historic landmarks dot the skyline. Explore Lisbon's iconic Belém Tower and Porto's charming Ribeira district, or relax on the sun-kissed beaches of the Algarve.

Spain: Visit Bilbao and San Sebastian along Spain's northern coast, where modern architecture meets traditional Basque culture. Indulge in pintxos (Basque tapas) in San Sebastian or marvel at the avant-garde design of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

France: Explore the maritime heritage of Bordeaux and Nantes, two vibrant cities nestled along the Atlantic coast of France. Sample world-renowned wines in Bordeaux's vineyards or cruise along the Loire River in Nantes, known for its medieval châteaux and charming canals.

United Kingdom: Experience the rugged beauty of Cornwall in southwest England, where dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches await. Discover quaint fishing villages, explore historic castles, or hike along the South West Coast Path for breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Scotland and Ireland: Journey to the wild and windswept landscapes of Scotland and Ireland, where rugged coastlines and ancient ruins abound. Explore the remote beaches of the Outer Hebrides, wander the cobbled streets of Dublin's Temple Bar district, or hike the dramatic cliffs of the Cliffs of Moher.

Coastal Africa

Cruise to the diverse coastal regions of Africa, where ancient cultures, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities await exploration. From the historic charm of Morocco to the breathtaking beauty of South Africa, each destination offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural wonders.

Morocco: Discover the coastal city of Agadir, where whitewashed buildings overlook pristine beaches and bustling souks and offer a glimpse into Morocco's rich heritage. Explore ancient medinas, visit ornate palaces, or embark on a camel trek into the Sahara Desert.

Senegal: Experience the vibrant culture of Dakar, Senegal's bustling capital nestled along the West African coast. Immerse yourself in the rhythms of local music, sample traditional Senegalese cuisine, or visit the historic Île de Gorée, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its role in the transatlantic slave trade.

Namibia: Explore the otherworldly landscapes of Namib Naukluft National Park, home to the towering dunes of Sossusvlei and the rugged Skeleton Coast. Discover ancient desert-adapted wildlife on safari, marvel at the star-filled skies, or embark on a scenic flight over the vast Namib Desert.

South Africa: Experience the beauty of Cape Town, one of South Africa's most iconic coastal cities, nestled beneath the imposing Table Mountain. Explore the vibrant neighborhoods of Bo-Kaap and the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, or venture out to the nearby Cape Winelands for a taste of world-class wines and stunning scenery.

Coastal South America

Explore the enchanting Atlantic coasts of Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, where vibrant cities, stunning beaches, and rich cultural heritage await. From the iconic shores of Rio de Janeiro to the picturesque landscapes of Ushuaia, each destination offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural diversity.

Brazil: Discover the lively streets of Rio de Janeiro, home to iconic landmarks such as Copacabana Beach and the Christ the Redeemer statue. Explore the historic city of Salvador, with its colorful colonial architecture and vibrant Afro-Brazilian culture. Dive into the crystalline waters of Recife and Fortaleza, known for their stunning beaches and lively beachfront scenes.

Uruguay: Experience the charm of Montevideo, Uruguay's capital, where historic neighborhoods blend seamlessly with modern architecture. Relax along the pristine shores of the "Uruguayan Riviera," renowned for its golden beaches and tranquil coastal towns.

Argentina: Immerse yourself in the vibrant energy of Buenos Aires, Argentina's cosmopolitan capital, where tango music fills the streets, and world-class cuisine tantalizes the taste buds. Journey to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world and the gateway to Antarctica, where rugged landscapes and pristine wilderness await exploration.

Coastal North America

Discover the diverse coastal landscapes of the United States and Canada, from sun-kissed beaches to charming seaside towns steeped in history and culture. Whether exploring historic cities or relaxing on sandy shores, there's something for every traveler along the Atlantic coasts of North America.

United States: Step back in time in St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in America, where cobblestone streets and historic landmarks await exploration. Immerse yourself in the southern charm of Savannah, Georgia, known for its antebellum architecture and lush public squares, or discover the rich history of Charleston, South Carolina, with its stately homes and vibrant waterfront. Dive into the bustling metropolis of New York City or immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Boston, Massachusetts.

Canada: Explore the picturesque landscapes of Nova Scotia, starting with the vibrant city of Halifax, where maritime history meets modern culture. Journey to St. John's, Newfoundland, a colorful coastal city known for its historic sites and stunning coastal vistas. Then, dive into the bustling metropolis of Toronto or immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Montreal, both located in Canada.

Trans-Atlantic Cruises

Joining a trans-Atlantic cruise is a bold decision, as it takes around two weeks to complete the journey across the open sea. It's akin to embarking on a grand odyssey across the vast canvas of the Atlantic Ocean. These voyages offer a mesmerizing blend of luxury, adventure, and unparalleled scenic beauty as you traverse from Europe to North America or vice versa.

Atlantic City Walking Tours – Summer

 alt=

Atlantic City, N.J. – The Office of Continuing Studies & Adult Education is set to host their annual walking tours of four Atlantic City neighborhoods throughout the month of July.

The series allows participants to actively experience Atlantic City's historical landmarks, events, prominent figures and subcultures.

All tours are on Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. and are led by Atlantic City historian Levi Fox. Registration is $15 per tour/person. Seating is limited, so interested attendees are encouraged to register early to save a spot.

Participants are encouraged to bring their walking shoes, sunscreen and a water bottle, as each tour will cover two to three miles of parks, city streets and the Boardwalk.

July 5 – Upper Chelsea

Learn about the section of Chelsea Neighborhood from the monument in O’Donnell Park (Albany Ave) north to the border of Ducktown Neighborhood (Texas Ave). This diverse, residential neighborhood of Atlantic City features historic architecture, parks, public art, small businesses, multiple faith communities and some of AC’s most infamous locally-owned restaurants.  This tour is the complement to the “Lower Chelsea Tour” featured previously in the series.

July 12 – Ducktown Revitalization

The historic neighborhood of “Ducktown,” once known as AC’s “Little Italy,” is now known for its budding art scene, great restaurants, and “The Walk” shopping mall. Our tour will focus on local markets, churches, current cultural flair and revitalization efforts taking place between Missouri and Texas Ave. Notable sites include The Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University, Dante Hall, White House Sub Shop, Dock Oyster House and the Historic 500 Club site.

July 19 – North Inlet & Bungalow Park

Gardner's Basin started as a project to create a historic district, while Bungalow Park is one of Atlantic City's distinctive neighborhoods. This tour leaves from the Diving Bell at historic Gardener's Basin, then passes by the Cove, Uptown School Complex, Uptown Park, Graff Lane, Adriatic Ave, Caspian Ave, Snug Harbor, MA Ave, Warehouse Homes, Fisherman's Park, Rhode Island Ave Ships, before concluding at original Gilchrist.

July 26 – South Inlet “To the Lighthouse”

Learn more about the historic South Inlet of Atlantic City, considered by many to be "AC's best kept secret." Starting at Absecon Lighthouse, this tour will feature Pauline's Prairie Park, Altman Playground, historic homes, Kelsey & Kim’s, Oscar McClinton Park, various Ocean Casino and Resort, multiple Condo Towers and North Beach Mini Golf before concluding at the Lighthouse.

AC Walking Tours Expand to Surrounding Communities

April 2, 2024 .

Aerial view of Atlantic City campus

Atlantic City, N.J.  — The popular   AC Walking Tours   are back and bigger than ever in 2024 with new tours and expansion into neighborhoods around Atlantic City.

The spring tours will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays in May. Summer tours will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on consecutive Fridays in July. Fall tours will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays in October. All are sponsored by Stockton University’s   Office of Continuing Studies and Adult Education   (OCSAE).

“These fun adventures across the greater Atlantic City area provide interactive experiences in a two-hour guided tour,” said OCSAE Assistant Director Diane Strelczyk. “Our tours are designed to highlight the beauty, history and humanity of Atlantic City. Each neighborhood features a rich history and a present-day vibe. Our goal is to showcase all the interesting people, places and events Atlantic City has held, currently features and hopes to achieve.”

The tours are researched, designed and led by historian Levi Fox, an assistant professor of History at Immaculata University and former adjunct professor at Stockton.

The Ducktown Community Development Corporation, the Chelsea Economic Development Corporation and Lucy the Elephant are co-sponsors of the walking tours.
