Yonex Astrox 100ZZ vs Astrox 100 Tour vs Astrox 100 Game Badminton Rackets Review & Comparison

Updated: Oct 4, 2022

Astrox 100ZZ, Astrox 100 Tour and Astrox 100 Game

Many of you would be familiar with the Astrox 100ZZ , which is the Japan-made model of the Astrox 100 series. Recently, Yonex decided to produce some of its flagship Astrox series rackets in Taiwan, these include the Astrox 88 series and the Astrox 100 series . Thus, the Tour and Game rackets were born. For the Astrox 88 series, apart from the top-range Astrox 88S Pro and Astrox 88D Pro , Yonex has also presented the made in Taiwan Astrox 88S Tour , Astrox 88S Game , Astrox 88D Tour and Astrox 88D Game . Similarly, for the Astrox 100 series, apart from the Astrox 100ZZ , we also have the Astrox 100 Tour and Astrox 100 Game.

Check out the Astrox 100ZZ :

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100ZZ

The Tour rackets are the mid-range products, whereas the Game rackets are the lower-range products in their respective series. Therefore, in terms of price, quality of production and materials, the Japan-made flagship models definitely top the chart, followed by the Tour rackets and then lastly, the Game rackets. However, I must say that I am really impressed with the Tour and Game rackets - they are very affordable and at the same time, very well-made with similar finishes compared to the Japan-made flagship rackets.

Let's talk about the Astrox 100 Tour and Game rackets now.

Before we get into the nitty gritty of the review, If you are like me who used to wonder how to tell each of the three rackets apart visually, let me break it down for you.

The most obvious way to tell the Tour and Game rackets apart is, of course, by looking at the decal on the racket frame and shaft. The word "Tour" is painted on the frame and shaft of the Tour rackets, and the word "Game" is painted on the frame and shaft of the Game rackets.

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100 Tour and Game

Next is to look at the support cap right above the wooden handle on the racket. The Tour rackets have a similar support cap to the Japan-made flagship made rackets, and the Game rackets have the older generation boxy design racket support cap on them which, coincidently, is the same one used on the second generation Astrox 88S and Astrox 88D .

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100 Tour and Game

Thirdly, you will notice that the Japan-made flagship and Tour models have a fully recessed racket frame profile whilst the Game models only have the top half of the racket frame recessed.

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100 Tour and Game

Fourthly, in terms of shaft thickness, expect the Japan-made models to have the thinnest shafts. The Tour rackets will then have a thinner shaft compared to the Game rackets.

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100 Tour and Game

So far, the same physical features have been used in the flagship, Tour and Game models of the Astrox 88S, Astrox 88D and Astrox 100 series so it looks like Yonex might carry on with this trend going forward.

Moving on to the review of the rackets now.

The Astrox 100ZZ is an extremely fast racket, with plenty of easy big power albeit a smaller sweet spot compared to the traditional Yonex rackets. The racket shaft is stiff but still very nice to play with overall.

For me, the 3U weight class of the Astrox 100ZZ is too heavy. The 3U Astrox 100 ZZ is a much bigger beast compare to the 4U version, essentially everything is souped up – the weight, the solid feel, the oomph behind it, as well as the energy required to play well with it too! It is certainly too much for me to handle, as I'm not able to generate enough racket head speed, especially in the short sharp shots to do this amazing racket justice. In tricky situations where I had to dig out very very late, I wasn't able to play very well with this head heavy racket. The 4U is the preferred weight class for me. However, people who are super strong will absolutely love this racket. Viktor Axelsen , for instance, plays amazingly well with this racket. The amount of power and the crisp feeling you get out of this racket is absolutely insane.

For the Astrox 100 Tour , as mentioned before, is made in Taiwan. You can see it has the words "Nanomesh Neo" printed on the racket and the material itself is used in the frame of the racket. The shaft is what Yonex calls the Rexis shaft which is slightly thicker than the one used on the Astrox 100ZZ at 6.7 mm, but it does contain the innovative Namd material as well.

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100 Tour

For me, the Astrox 100 Tour 4U model plays really really well, just a touch slower compared to the Astrox 100ZZ . It felt decently head heavy and has no problem generating a lot of power with good timing. I thought the shaft of the racket was pretty stiff and the swing of the racket felt super smooth. Overall, a very nice racket to play with.

The 3U version of the Astrox 100 Tour , on the other hand, was heavier, more solid and slightly stiffer compared to the 4U version. It really reminded me a lot of the Astrox 100ZX to be honest. I believe they might have very similar design philosophies and I wouldn't be surprised if it was made exactly the same as the Astrox 100ZX model, just painted differently. Again, stronger players will really like this racket.

Let's now look at the Astrox 100 Game model rackets. In this model, there is no Rexis or Namd materials in the racket shaft or the racket itself. It is replaced by the Nanomesh Neo material in both the frame and shaft and the shaft thickness is 7.2 mm, the thickest amongst the three models.

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100 Tour and Game

Besides this, it also has the biggest frame amongst the three models at 24 cm x 18.7 cm. Ironically though, it has the thinnest frame at only 9.8mm compared to 10.5mm and 10.6mm for the Astrox 100ZZ and the Astrox 100 Tour rackets. I guess Yonex thought having a thinner frame might speed this racket up considering its bigger frame.

In terms of playability, I thought the Astrox 100 Game rackets have a slightly lighter head in comparison to the Astrox 100 Tour and the Astrox 100ZZ models. They are also just a touch less stiff compared to the Tour models. Out of the three models, I think the Astrox 100 Game rackets are the easiest ones to play with, but have the least power and stiffness.

If we look at the Astrox100 Game 3U rackets, they are, overall, heavier compared to the 4U rackets but still very nice to play with. Punchy and solid. Again, stronger players will really enjoy the 3U models.

Here is a table showing the rackets' measurements for you to easily compare them against each other.

100 tour

As these rackets are so new, Yonex hasn't even put them on the racket matrix, so here is my interpretation of where the Astrox 100 Tour and Astrox 100 Game rackets might stand in the racket matrix.

100 tour

In terms of pricing, I believe the Tour rackets are about 25 to 30% less compared to the Japan-made flagship models, and the Game rackets are in turn 25% to 30% cheaper compared to the Tour rackets. So the Tour and Game rackets are actually really good options if you have a tighter budget.

I would also add that both the Astrox 100 Tour and Astrox 100 Game rackets are head-heavier than the Astrox 88S and Astrox 88D Tour and Game models.

Overall, I am really impressed with these apparently lower-range, made in Taiwan models of the Astrox 100 series rackets. My only disappointment would probably be that the Tour and Game rackets come pre-strung with factory strings. I guess it's probably a nice idea to have free strings but when you're buying a racket that is retailed between £140 to £180, you would expect to get fairly decent strings on a pre-strung racket. However, what you are getting is in fact unbranded, unmodelled strings, which are not even one of Yonex's cheaper strings such as the BG65 or BG3 .

CKYEW Yonex Astrox 100 Game strings

The ones I got are also strung at an extremely low tension which is almost unplayable. It really is a shame, because bad strings ruin the feel of good rackets. Imagine buying a Ferrari, and they put on really poor, cheap tires that make the car un-drivable. So my advice to anyone who is buying the Tour and Game rackets would be to get them re-strung with a string of your own preference at your own tensions. This will maximise the enjoyment you will get out of these rackets.

Wilson is trying to start a new revolution in tennis with the release of their innovative racquet the Clash. This new racquet family will incorporate new technologies, FreeFlex and StableSmart , to make the frame more versatile for the ever-changing game of tennis. Players will be able to swing freely with more confidence and not lose out on control, stability or spin. The Clash 100 Tour is a slightly heavier frame than the Clash 100, gearing towards players that want a little more control and stability without the loss of flexibility. As a truly loyal Wilson racquet user, I was both excited and nervous to see what changes this frame brought to the court.

Groundstrokes At first, this frame took some time to get use to since the flexibility is very apparent. When I started to hit forehands or backhands, I felt a slight bend in the frame almost like its moving the racquet head faster through contact. I personally liked this feeling and started to get locked into my shots right away. As long as I kept attacking the ball, I could easily control and pinpoint the ball into the corners. However, when I slowed down my swing the ball would take off unexpectedly resulting in the ball going out. On defense, the racquet helped me more by providing easy power but I still needed to generate some racquet head speed to keep the ball from flying on me. Compared to the Clash 100 , the static weight of this frame is noticeable and the extra 0.5 ounce impacted the stability in a great way. The added stability really helped me keep up with hard hit shots whenever I was on the baseline and not twist in my hand whenever I hit the side of the frame. One area that I think could be improved is on slice shots. Whenever I did hit a slice the ball stayed low and had plenty of bite, but I couldn’t keep the ball deep consistently. I would be required to swing harder than normal otherwise the ball would just sit up in the middle of the court.

Volleys Thanks to the great amount of flexibility, this racquet performed very well at net. I got plenty of feel for the ball allowing me to dictate where my volleys went on the court. Thanks to the added mass I never felt my volleys spray away or lose control even when the ball was hit hard directly at me. Although the weight is slightly heavier, I didn’t feel like I could get in trouble because the racquet is very mobile. During quick exchanges I easily got the frame into position and finished off the point with an offensive mindset. Dropshots too were great to hit since I could accurately direct my shot without worrying about it going too long. Whether you need to drive the volley deep, hit a sharp angle or keep up with fast exchanges, this frame will keep you in the winning position while at net.

Serves & Overheads Serves and overheads were pretty good with this frame, but tended to favor my flatter hits. I felt I could get more control with the Tour version because of the heavier weight. The ball doesn’t generate much pace off the serve, but I felt I could accurately place it in the box and keep my opponent on the defense right away. Slice serves were pretty effective and usually stayed low to the ground making it harder to return. Kick serves struggled a little more and didn’t jump up over my opponent’s head making it easy for them attack. Players that like to hit with more slice or kick will want to try out the Clash 100.

Overall Wilson has made a great innovative racquet that I think many players will enjoy. The greater amount of flexibility in the frame is very interesting and this Tour version provides players with a little more control than the standard Clash 100. There is plenty of feel, power, stability and spin enabling aggressive hitters to take advantage of their opponents whenever they play. Whether you are an Ultra, Burn, Blade or Pro Staff user, the Clash 100 Tour may become your new weapon of choice.

Howard Jones

A new wave one-stop shop will tour North America this summer when Howard Jones and ABC will be hitting stages across North America with special guest Haircut 100. The full itinerary appears below.

“I’m very excited to be hitting the road with my friends ABC and Haircut 100,” Jones enthused. “Our audiences can look forward to some seriously top tunes night after night!  Bring your celebratory selves to the party.”

Popular on Variety

Of course, the evening will play out like an evening filled with hits from the early days of MTV, when the so-called “Second British Invasion” dominated the channel. Jones’ hits “New Song” and “What Is Love,” and “Things Can Only Get Better” probably segued into or out of ABC’s “Look of Love,” “Poison Arrow” and “Be Near Me” and Haircut 100’s “Love Plus One” and “Fantastic Day.”

All three acts have gone on to other successes, but this tour brings together the songs and sounds that first brought them to fame.

Wilson Clash 100 Tour Racket Review

We often refer to rackets as modern frames vs classic frames, but with the Clash, Wilson has taken modern to the next level with some innovative technology.

We got our hands on the Wilson Clash 100 Tour to see just what this hotly anticipated racket had to offer and whether it has truly changed the way we look at rackets.

The promise of the Clash rackets is that they offer stability from a frame that isn’t too heavy or too stiff.

To put that into simple terms, when we talk about stability, we’d normally expect that to give us power, spin, and control - performance.

Custom Fittings

Discover your perfect racket and string combo!

Normally though, to achieve stability a racket needs to either be heavier, or stiffer or some combination of the two.

The Wilson Clash 100 Tour, at 310g unstrung, and with a stiffness rating of 55 is neither of those.

The Clash has a fairly thick frame, but it is super flexible, which means comfort and feel.

So as you can see, the Clash is kind of promising the Holy Grail of great performance with great comfort, and of course, Wilson marketed this like crazy.

So how does the Clash achieve this magic mix of performance and comfort?

Racket companies are always talking about their newest incredible technology, and in many cases, you can’t notice a difference, would that be the case with the Clash?

Well, to answer the second question, Wilson has put in such a massive media campaign about this technology that they’re going to look pretty silly if it doesn’t do anything.

Answering the first question in great detail is well beyond my technical abilities, but I can tell you the information that Wilson gives us.

Key to the Clash 100 Tour’s ability to offer stability and flexibility are two technologies, FreeFlex and StableSmart .

Together these technologies allow the racket to bend on impact to suit the swing your using.

Obviously, it’s all pretty complicated, but this seems like a good thing if the Clash can pull it off.

Looking through the rest of the specifications of the Clash 100 Tour, everything looks pretty normal other than one aspect that stands out to me and worries me a little bit.

This stick has a 9PT headlight balance which means it’s likely to be super whippy and fast through the swing.

I normally prefer something that’s a bit more evenly balanced, but hopefully, the Clash would buck the trend here.

Seeing the specs of the Clash I suspected it might be a bit more power oriented than I’m used to, so I went with my full-on control swing set up of Big Banger Original at 52lbs.

This should hopefully help me tame this racket and deaden the feel a little bit more to my liking.

We’ve heard so much hype about this racket, and now, it was finally time to give it a go!

Groundstrokes

7 out of 10

Tennis has changed so much in the past twenty years and you can really see that reflected in the rackets.

A modern racket is going to have a lot of focus on how it performs from the back of the court, and it makes sense that they’re optimized towards groundstrokes.

That’s certainly what I found with the Wilson Clash 100 Tour . Everything about this stick seemed to me to be geared towards easy power and spin, with comfort thrown in for good measure.

In many ways, it reminded me of a more comfortable version of the Babolat Pure Drive crossed with a more powerful version of the Wilson Burn 100S .

The problem is, neither of those rackets really worked for me, and neither did the Wilson Clash 100 Tour from the back of the court.

What gets me is the Tour part of the name, which to me should indicate some kind of higher level performance in terms of control and touch, but I just didn’t find it.

I found power, I found spin, and I found comfort, but too often I didn’t find the court.

Somehow within the marketing, Wilson has hinted the Clash is the kind of racket you can swing for the fences and have the control to put the ball where you want it, but for me, I swang for the fences and didn’t know where the ball was going to end up.

Sometimes I didn’t swing for the fences and found my ball heading towards the fence.

I must say, the way this racket is set up wasn’t likely to suit me.

The technology leans towards easy power and spin, with quite an involved feel whereas, I like quite a deadened feel with low spin and power potential.

This might make the racket much more arm friendly, but it doesn’t get the most out of my game, and I don’t see it doing so for advanced players.

Where I do see the Clash 100 Tour being a big hit is with more intermediate players and advanced players who suffer from injuries.

For these players, I think the Clash gives them the ability to swing near their full capability without pain whilst achieving really good power and spin.

Weirdly though, Larry was in Canada recently and had a bit of elbow pain, he played with a bunch of rackets, including the Clash 100 Tour, and he found all of them painful to play with other than the Wilson Blade 98 CV .

As balancing performance and comfort goes, I’d certainly choose the Blade 98CV myself, but I do think the Clash 100 Tour has an added level of comfort for intermediate players.

This may not sound like the most positive review right now, but I do really respect what Wilson is trying to do.

The difficulty for me is that it’s been so overhyped.

There’s only so much you can do with a racket and invariably when you gain in one area you lose in another.

In this case, I found the areas that the Clash lost out in were feel and control, both areas that are extremely important to me.

I can see the Wilson Clash 100 Tour working for players who want a power and spin boost without putting extra pressure on their body.

I can’t see it working for the more advanced players out there, especially if they crave control and feel.

I gave the clash a 7 out of 10 on the groundstrokes.

7.5 out of 10

I knew from the groundstrokes that the feel of the Clash 100 Tour wasn’t going to suit me too well at the net, so I tried to look past that and see what else this racket had to offer.

The answer is pretty simple – comfort.

If you’re someone who’s not playing at the highest level then you do get incredible comfort from this racket and very easy performance.

You put the racket in front of the ball and it’s got the stability to launch it back with good power and spin, and minimal fuss.

That’s exactly what happens at the net.

It’s easy to get into position and it’s easy to play the ball back.

When you have to play a very difficult volley I found the performance does drop off a bit because I didn’t have the levels of control I wanted, but other than that the Clash put in a solid performance at the net.

Especially on easy volleys and overheads, I was able to inject great pace into the ball and ensure my opponent wasn’t getting near it.

The Clash does deliver in terms of blending stability with flexibility, it’s just I find that doesn’t translate into performance of the highest level.

That being said, I did prefer the Clash to the Pure Drive at the net, so that’s a positive!

I found the Wilson Clash 100 Tour to be solid on the easy volleys but a little bit temperamental on the difficult ones, I gave it a 7.5 out of 10.

8 out of 10

This is the one area where the Clash really performed for me. The headlight balance made it extremely maneuverable and meant I kept my racket head speed throughout the stroke and it had the stability to turn that speed into power.

Sometimes when I’m serving with slightly heavier rackets I find I just don’t get the racket head speed I need to hit with power.

On the other hand, when I play with lighter rackets, the speed is there but the lack of stability means I don’t get the power.

With the Clash, I felt like I had the best of both worlds, and I was able to use it to good effect.

I did lack a little bit of control compared to what I’m used to and I found my leftie slider out wide quite hard to get a hold of, but other than that, I did enjoy the serving part of this playtest.

The Clash made it easy to generate plenty of swing speed and gave you good access to power and spin.

As I’ve mentioned, the overall feel of the racket isn’t quite right for me, but on the serve that didn’t matter too much and I managed to find some good performance.

Again, I think the Clash is well suited to players who feel they are being held back by injuries.

If you’re level drops considerably because of pain, the Clash might be the racket to fix that.

The serve was the most enjoyable part of the playtest for me.

Good power and spin earn the Wilson Clash 100 Tour an 8 out of 10 on the serve.

Overall, the Wilson Clash 100 Tour and I weren’t a perfect fit. While the Clash ticked many boxes in terms of comfort and easy power, I felt it was lacking when it came to control and feel.

While it didn’t quite suit my preferences, and I don’t see it being a good racket for the most advanced players, I do think there is a big market for this racket, simply because of its comfort levels.

Anyone who finds their game is hampered by niggling injuries should at least take a look at this racket and see what it can do for them.

I know I mentioned Larry still had some elbow pain with it, but I myself found it to be unbelievably comfortable.

Everyone’s body is slightly different, but this racket might just allow you to play pain-free tennis once again.

Looking back, the Clash 100 Tour didn’t do too poorly on the volleys and the serve, matching the performance of the Babolat Pure Drive , it was just on the groundstrokes where I found it underwhelming.

In reality, I would say the Clash comes close to giving the performance of a Pure Drive, just with overwhelmingly improved comfort.

If you like that style of racket and you can get the Clash to gel with your groundstrokes then you might well be on to a winner!

For me, I’ll have to check out the Clash 98 Tour and see if that suits my style better, but I must say I’m not convinced.

My overriding thoughts are that Wilson has made a brave move with the Clash, and it’s a move that’s taking us in the right direction, thinking about the effects tennis has on our bodies.

However, I think there’s still plenty of space for improvement, certainly if you’re looking to play a high level of tennis.

I gave the Wilson Clash 100 Tour a 7.5 out of 10 overall.

Dunlop Force 100 Tour Racquet Review

100 tour

  • Easy to hit with depth and pace
  • Lacks a bit of control

Video Review

All of our playtesters noted how easy it was to generate power from the baseline with the Dunlop Force 100 Tour , and how easy it was to generate power at the net, when they were serving and on their returns. Groundstrokes were easy to hit, and our team was using the easy power to either turn defense into offense or to put the ball away as soon as they got the chance. At the net our playtesters were punching their volleys hard and deep. Everyone loved returning with the Force 100 Tour, too, because it was easy to swing and forgiving enough to reward big swings consistently. However, with all that power came a slight lack of control and feel, so we did have to aim a little further inside the lines with our shots. All in all, the Force 100 Tour is a nice racquet for the player looking for a more powerful and maneuverable option that's easy to use.

Dunlop Force 100 Tour Racquet Scores

Groundstrokes - score: 83.

"Babolat Pure Drive-like" was a comparison that got tossed around quite a bit during this playtest. When our playtesters put the Force 100 Tour to the test they found a powerful, spin-friendly, easy to use racquet with a crisp, modern feel. "One thing is for sure -- I didn't have any issues upping my pace with this Force 100 Tour!" Tiffani exclaimed. "This racquet is very Pure Drive-like in terms of effortless power. I could hit the ball deep into the court without much effort, and sometimes too deep a little too easily. Because this racquet swings to the side of power rather than control, I consciously was choosing more conservative targets and made sure I used spin to help keep the ball within the lines. However, I did like that free power when I was caught out of position. By adding a little extra zip to my swing the Force 100 Tour helped me get some good depth on my shots. The stiffness of this racquet made it was easy to hit with power, but I felt that the feel off the stringbed was somewhat muted."

Brittany was also enjoying the easy power and forgiveness of the Force 100 Tour, and she was really getting dialed in with her forehand. She said, "Groundstrokes were a blast to hit with this racquet (literally!). Right off the bat, I noticed the easy power and depth and loved grooving from the baseline. The Force 100 Tour was surprisingly maneuverable, so it was easy to generate racquet head speed. When I was being aggressive I had to make sure I wasn't hitting too flat because it was very easy to overhit. I really connected with my forehand and found that most of my winners came from the forehand side. I thought spin potential was average. I was getting enough to keep the ball in the court but wanted more when going for my signature short, angled groundstrokes. Lastly, even though I am not much of a slicer, I found my slices sitting up a bit."

Also noting the slight lack of control, especially on his slice backhand, was Jason . He shared, "The first thing that really stood out to me was the power. The combination of the power and spin was great for playing offensively and attacking shorter balls, but at times it felt erratic, and I would launch shots long I wouldn't normally. I also struggled a bit with my backhand slice, which tended to float, and I wasn't able to consistently knife it low. I am not the biggest fan of the feel of the Force 100 Tour either; it seemed too stiff and brassy to me."

The easy power and forgiveness reminded Chris of one of his favorite racquets. He said, "An easy to swing feel and plenty of power made this a very forgiving racquet from the baseline. I liked how quickly I could accelerate it through my stroke. The response was fairly Babolat Pure Drive-like, and since I use the Pure Drive Plus it was easy to adjust to this racquet. I thought the level of power and spin were very similar to the iDapt Force 100, but I thought the feel was improved in the Force 100 Tour. I felt like I had a slightly better sense for depth control on my backhand slice. For a little more pop I really enjoy the iDapt version fitted with the longer handle, and I think a longer version of this racquet would be fun to hit with. I expect racquets with the word 'Tour' in their name to be heftier than this one felt."

Volleys - Score: 78

The easy power of the Force 100 Tour worked well at the net, and once again our TW team noted how easy it was to punch the ball deep or put away high volleys. However, a few of them noted that it wasn't that easy to hit touch volleys. "The response from the Force 100 Tour was clean and precise at net," Chris praised. "It felt like the ball was getting in and out of the stringbed quickly, and that gave it a very direct response -- a point and shoot racquet as I sometimes say. I also thought it had just enough stability to get the job done. Ideally, I'd like a little more weight (or a longer length) for some additional mass on my swing. Still, I was volleying well and I liked the put away power this Force 100 Tour offered."

Brittany loved how easy the Force 100 Tour was to use at net, but she also thought it fluttered a bit on off-center contact. She said, "Punching volleys away with the Force 100 Tour was as easy as pie. It was easy to get into position, and I could direct the pace back deep in the court to end the point. The feel was a bit more muted than I like so I wasn't as comfortable hitting touch volleys. The Force 100 Tour wasn't very forgiving when I wasn't hitting the volley directly in the sweetspot, and it was twisting in my hand."

Tiffani had to adjust a bit to the power of the racquet, but once she did she was able to end points easily at net. She shared, "The powerful response of this Force 100 Tour was again evident at the net. I found myself punching my volleys beyond the baseline, so I had to adjust my targeting. I preferred simple volleys over attempting to drop the ball short. Like with other stiffer racquets, I had trouble gauging softer shots."

Jason liked the easy power, but like Brittany, he noticed a little bit of instability on some shots. He commented, "My volleys felt pretty good when I hit in the sweetspot. The ball pocketing was very good and the put away power was there. When I hit outside the sweetspot the torsional stability became an issue. "

Serves - Score: 81

It was all about power, spin and easy racquet head speed when our playtesters were serving with the Force 100 Tour . "Just like my groundstrokes, my first serves were coming in hot," Brittany admitted proudly. "Easy racquet head speed allowed me to generate faster than average first serves. The first serve up the T was my favorite shot to hit. I wasn't as confident hitting second serves because of the lack of control, and my percentage wasn't as high as normal."

Tiffani also found ample power. She raved, "I was getting some good pace and spin on my serves. I found the Force 100 Tour easy to serve with. As usual, I wasn't hitting massive serves, but I could hit my hardest serves without any extra effort."

Chris was pleased with the power and spin potential, and he was able to get one of his favorite serves locked in throughout this playtest. He praised, "I served well with this racquet. The Force 100 Tour offered easy access to pace and spin. My slice serve out wide was working well, and I liked the amount of spin I was getting on the ball. I felt like I could go after my serves with aggression and be confident I'd get enough spin to keep them inside the service box. When I went for a flatter serve I was also happy with the pace I was getting."

Jason was using the racquet's good spin potential to locate his serves consistently in the box and give his opponents something they didn't like. He said, "I rarely hit a flat serve and tend to just slice my serves for a higher percentage. The access to spin really helped give me an effective serve. They weren't really the most powerful serves, but I could hit a heavy enough ball to keep my opponents from teeing off on them."

Returns - Score: 83

Our testers loved returning with the Force 100 Tour , and they were all rewarded for taking big cuts at the ball. "Returns were one of my favorite shots to hit with this racquet," Jason raved. "With enough power to place the ball deep into the court, this racquet allowed me to really attack my opponents' serves. It isn't the most precise and control-oriented racquet, so I couldn't really go for lines, but as long as I picked large targets I could still be aggressive."

Chris had his full arsenal of shots working. He said, "The fast feel of this racquet made it easy to use on returns. I had no issues getting the racquet into position and I found ample time to take a nice cut at the ball. The power The same power that I found elsewhere made it easy to generate pace on my returns. Again, spin was ample and enabled me to control the power. I enjoyed chipping and driving my backhand slice. I felt confident mixing up that shot to keep the server guessing and to help me get on the offensive."

Tiffani agreed, adding, "Like with groundstrokes, I had to be a bit cautious with where I was aiming. Going for the lines may never be the best game plan, but that was definitely not happening with this racquet. The lively response took some getting used to, and once I started aiming more toward the middle of the court I enjoyed the results I was getting. This racquet also felt faster than its 322 swingweight to me, and I didn't have any trouble getting it around on faster serves."

The Force 100 Tour's easy power and forgiveness gave Brittany the right weapon for her attacking return style. She said, "The racquet was easy to swing, and I loved taking advantage of second serves. I found myself stepping in and taking bigger than normal cuts at the ball to start the point off on offense. When returning first serves I had to make sure to add spin to keep from hitting long."

Overall - Score: 80

Chris - "The power, spin and maneuverability."

Jason - "The Force 100 Tour is powerful, maneuverable and spin friendly."

Tiffani - "It swings fast and felt powerful."

Brittany - "I liked the easy power and depth. It was also easy to swing."

Chris - "I'd like a tad more weight or a longer version for some additional plow through. The Force 100 Tour is a little light to be called a 'Tour' version."

Jason - "There was too much power at times, and it has a stiff feel."

Tiffani - "Nothing in particular stood out to me as a dislike. I had some issues with control at times, but those were easily sorted out with different tactics and string choices. (I preferred the poly we used over the multi because of the greater spin potential and the added ball feel of the poly.)"

Brittany - "I was left wanting a little more control. Also, the Force 100 Tour was a tad unstable at times when I was reaching for a volley or return."

Comparing the racquet to others they've tried, our testers said:

Chris - "The Force 100 Tour compares favorably with the likes of the Babolat Pure Drive, Volkl Super G 8 (300g), Head Graphene XT Extreme Midplus and the Tecnifibre TFlash 300 ATP Dynacore. All of these racquets offer great spin and easy power, but each has its own unique feel."

Jason - "The Force 100 Tour felt similar to the Dunlop iDapt Force 100 and Head Graphene XT Extreme Pro. All of them are stiff, powerful and easy to use."

Tiffani - "I mentioned that the Force 100 Tour had Babolat Pure Drive-type power earlier. The power level also reminded me of the Wilson Juice 100. All of these racquets are easy to swing, but I find that I can control the ball the best with the Pure Drive."

Brittany - "There are definitely similarities between the Dunlop Force 100 Tour and the Babolat Pure Drive. They are both powerful, maneuverable and easy to use. If I had to choose between the two I would pick the Pure Drive, though, because I prefer its feel."

(Scores are determined by averaging individual play test scores)

Tiger Woods responds to ‘surprising’ PGA Tour leadership drama

  • Follow on Twitter
  • Follow on Instagram

Tiger Woods responded to Jimmy Dunne's 'surprising' exit from the PGA Tour policy board.

Andy Lyons/Getty Images

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Whether he likes it or not, Tiger Woods is now the voice of the PGA Tour.

And on Tuesday morning at the PGA Championship, being the voice of the PGA Tour meant addressing the elephant in the room: Jimmy Dunne’s sudden (and rather critical) departure from the PGA Tour’s all-important Policy Board , citing stalled negotiations with the Saudi PIF.

From a packed house on a rainy morning at Valhalla, Woods admitted that the Dunne departure — announced via public letter on Monday evening — had caught him by surprise, and offered a terse defense of the Tour’s slow-rolling negotiations with the Saudis.

“Jimmy, and the amount of work and dedication that he put into the board and to the PGA Tour, it’s been incredible,” Woods said diplomatically. “It was a bit surprising that he resigned yesterday and just how it all came about, but, no, his role and his help, then what he’s been able to do for the PGA Tour has been great.”

There is no doubting the importance of Dunne’s role in early negotiations with the Saudis. The New York financier and golf magnate was the Tour’s first representative in negotiations with Saudi PIF chief Yasir Al-Rumayyan in discussions last spring, tasked himself as the public face and heat-shield for the Tour’s decision-making in the aftermath of the framework news and later sat for a Senate hearing on behalf of the PGA Tour in regards to the PIF.

But Dunne was asked to take a secondary role in the Tour’s negotiations in the weeks following that hearing — a move that corresponded with Woods’ own demands to Tour leadership for increased player representation and power at the negotiating table. Dunne suggested in his resignation letter that his role on the board had been rendered “superfluous” by those decisions, a point that Woods did not dispute on Tuesday morning.

“Well, the PGA Tour is for the players and by the players,” Woods said. “So, we have an influence and there’s roles for the player directors and there’s roles for the independents. We’re trying to make the PGA Tour the best it can be day-in and day-out.”

The Tour’s newfound democracy has secured it against another event like the framework agreement of June 6, but those changes have come at the cost of complicating negotiations with the PIF. For months, the Tour, its players and independent directors have appeared at odds about the shape of golf’s future, and adding internal strife to otherwise highly complex negotiations hasn’t served to expedite the process of finding a solution.

Gridlock is a sign of a functioning democracy, and that sure seems to be where the Tour finds itself on PGA Championship week, the final major before the framework agreement’s one-year anniversary. But gridlock often leads to frustration.

“That’s one of the reasons why we have arguments and we have disagreements, we want to do what’s best for everyone in golf and the Tour,” Woods said. “Without those kind of conflicts, the progress is not going to be there.”

But without those arguments, there might also be a sense of clarity surrounding golf’s future. And if there’s one thing that was certain from Woods’ presser at Valhalla, it’s that clarity remains a long way off.

“We’re working on negotiations with PIF,” he said. “It’s ongoing; it’s fluid; it changes day-to-day. Has there been progress? Yes. But it’s an ongoing negotiation, so a lot of work ahead for all of us. We’re making steps and [they] may not be giant steps, but we’re making steps.”

50 Cent Makes History With $100 Million in 'Final Lap' Tour Ticket Sales

50 Cent made history with his The Final Lap tour ticket sales.

The rapper, 48, embarked on the worldwide tour in March 2023 and played shows through December of that year, with one additional concert getting added this past March. 50 Cent played at various major cities in the United States and internationally, including Nashville, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Paris, among others.

The tour officially came to an end in December 2023 with 50 Cent's final show in Phoenix, Arizona, on March 3, but it's still making headlines. The Final Lap has become the fourth tour by any rapper to surpass $100 million in ticket sales, following Drake and Migos' co-headlining Aubrey & the Three Migos Tour , Drake's I t's All a Blur Tour and Kendrick Lamar 's The Big Steppers Tour.

Now that his tour has come to an end, 50 Cent is gearing up to release a novel titled The Accomplice , which is set to drop on September 3.

Grab a Pen! Hayley Kiyoko and More Stars Who've Written Books

"I want to bring a big heist story to the page," 50 Cent shared in a statement to People in March. "My debut fiction novel and its follow-up series will be captivating."

The novel is set to follow FBI agent Nia Robinson, who works within the robbery division. Nia decided to join the agency after her father was convicted of embezzlement. Now, she's determined to clear his name.

"Stay tuned for The Accomplice coming to the big screen as well," 50 Cent teased to People at the time. Of course, the musician is no stranger to the publishing industry as he has published various nonfiction books over the years, including 2020's Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter .

50 Cent has found professional success over the years not only with his music but with his acting projects as well. Upon its release, Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter was referred to as the music mogul's most honest work as he "opens up about his amazing comeback - from tragic personal loss to thriving businessman and cable's highest-paid executive," per the summary.

TV Stars Who've Directed Their Own Shows Over the Years

He made his musical debut in the 1990s, rising to fame throughout the 2000s. Throughout his rap career, 50 Cent released five studio albums (the last being Animal Ambition in 2014) before pivoting to the film industry. Not only does he have a few notable roles under his belt, but 50 Cent cocreated and starred in the Starz TV series Power from 2014 to 2020. He went on to reprise the role for Power Book II: Ghost .

While finding success in the TV industry, 50 Cent hasn't completely ruled out a return to music.

"I get the attention that I want from music when I want it. I just went out and toured 45 countries, and everywhere was sold out," he told Billboard in February 2023. "That made me want to offer new music that I could integrate into everything now. I've done what I wanted to do in the [sales] capacity. I've sold over 35 million records. Not singles - albums."

PGA Championship invites 7 LIV players to get top 100 in the world

100 tour

The PGA Championship officially has Tiger Woods in a field released Tuesday that includes invitations to seven players from Saudi-funded LIV Golf, giving the major 99 of the 100 in the world ranking at Valhalla next week.

The PGA of America strives to have the top 100 in the world to maintain its reputation for having the strongest field of the four majors, although it is not part of the criteria. Those hopes ended late Tuesday when Rikuya Hoshino (No. 94) withdrew.

The PGA leans on a catch-all category of “special invitations.” The group of LIV players includes Patrick Reed, whose tie for 12th in the Masters moved him inside the top 100. He is at No. 92, and the invitation keeps alive his streak of playing every major since the 2014 Masters.

The PGA Championship returns to Valhalla in Louisville, Kentucky, for the fourth time on May 16-19. Rory McIlroy won at Valhalla the last time it was there in 2014. The course is best known for Woods winning a playoff over Bob May in 2000 for his third straight major.

Joaquin Niemann, who won the Australian Open in December and has two LIV Golf wins this year, already received an invitation. The surprise was Talor Gooch announcing in an X post on Monday that he had been invited.

Emily Ferrando wears a T-shirt she bought in the parking lot in support of Scottie Scheffler during the second round of the PGA Championship golf tournament at the Valhalla Golf Club, Friday, May 17, 2024, in Louisville, Ky. (AP Photo/Matt York)

It was a sign the PGA of America’s selection committee was looking at LIV results on their own, as Gooch doesn’t play much outside the Saudi league. He won three times on LIV in 2023 and won the season points list.

Other invitations went to Dean Burmester, Lucas Herbert and Adrian Meronk, all of them inside the top 100 in the world. The seventh invitation went to David Puig, the 22-year-old from Spain who is No. 106 in the ranking. Puig has finished in the top 10 in six of his last seven tournaments on the Asian Tour, including two wins.

LIV will be represented by 16 players, down from 18 a year ago.

There might have been one more, except British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen turned down his invitation. Oosthuizen, who is No. 125 in the world, won twice late last year in South Africa in tournaments co-sanctioned by the European tour.

His manager, Carlos Rodriguez, said in a text message that Oosthuizen already had some personal commitments.

The LIV group includes defending champion Brooks Koepka, who goes for a fourth PGA Championship title. He is the only active LIV player to win a major.

Kerry Haigh, the championship director for the PGA of America, has said he would consider deserving players from tours around the world. Invitations were given to Tim Widing of Sweden, who has won consecutive tournaments on the Korn Ferry Tour.

Another invitation went to Kazuma Kobori, a 22-year-old born in Japan who now plays under the New Zealand flag. He has won three times this year in the Webex Players Series on the PGA Tour of Australasia.

The field has 21 club professionals — 20 from the PGA Professional Championship last week, and Michael Block, who qualified by finishing among the top 15 last year at Oak Hill.

The PGA is keeping two spots open in case the winners of the Wells Fargo Championship and the Myrtle Beach Classic are not already eligible. Only four players in the 69-man field at the Wells Fargo Championship have not qualified. The first alternate is Alex Smalley.

Cicada map 2024: See where to find Brood XIX and XIII − and where they've already been spotted

100 tour

For many Americans, the cicadas are here .

Trillions of periodical cicadas are already emerging in a rare, two brood event across multiple states , with more expected to come in the following weeks. Thanks to warm temperatures and good conditions, these 13- or 17-year cicadas are emerging from their underground habitats to eat, mate and die, making a whole lot of noise in the process.

Broods XIX and XIII have not emerged together since 1803, and after this year, won't emerge together again until 2245. While they are largely in different states, they are both emerging in parts of Illinois and Iowa.

So if you've seen one cicada or hundreds of cicadas, here's where you can expect to see more this year.

Are cicadas dangerous? Busting myths on the harmfulness of the noisy pests.

Are cicadas already out in 2024?

Adult periodical cicadas from Brood XIX have been spotted by users in multiple states across the Southeast and Midwest including in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Illinois, according to  Cicada Safari , a cicada tracking app developed by Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Through Cicada Safari, users can confirm their sightings of cicadas with pictures, look at a map of other cicada sightings, join a leaderboard with other users and learn more information about cicadas.

2024 cicada map: Check out where Broods XIII, XIX are projected to emerge

The two cicada broods are projected to emerge in a combined 17 states across the South and Midwest. They emerge once the soil eight inches underground reaches 64 degrees, expected to begin in many states in May and lasting through late June.

The two broods  last emerged together in 1803 , when Thomas Jefferson was president.

What is a brood?

According to the  University of Connecticut , broods are classified as "all periodical cicadas of the same life cycle type that emerge in a given year."

A brood of cicadas is made up of different species of the insect that have separate evolutionary histories. These species may have joined the brood at different times or from different sources. These different species are lumped together under the brood because they are in the same region and emerge on a common schedule.

Why do cicadas make so much noise?

You'll have to thank the male cicadas for all that screeching. Male cicadas synchronize their calls and produce congregational songs, according to  Britannica , which establish territory and attract females. There is also a courting call that they make before mating.

Unluckily for us, the 13-year and 17-year brood cicadas  are the loudest , partially because of the sheer number of them that emerge at once.
