Trane voyager condenser fan issue

I’m havring an issue with k4 relay energizing on the ucp board to bring on my second condenser fan motor. Outdoor sensor is reading 85 degrees according to the ohm chart. When I jumper across k4 relay condenser fan kicks on no problem. Tech support recommended new UCP board and outdoor sensor which I’ve replaced with no help. Any other ideas could not find anything else in manual or wiring diagram that interrupts that k4 relay.

As much as I would like to help..... if I'm not there with my meter in my hand standing in front of the unit, I'm not going to imagine every possibility. When it comes to electronic control boards, the only way to realistically test them is to confirm that the proper inputs are being made and then the proper outputs are being commanded. If you have the inputs, but you're not getting the outputs, the vast majority..... if not 100% of the time.....you're going to have a bad control board.

the K4 relay is soldered to the control board? or is it mounted in the control panel?

On the older voyagers with the UCP board, they used a dpdt relay mounted over by the condenser fan run capacitors. It was powered by an ambient temperature switch. They're probably doing something different on the rtrm boards. I don't have a schematic in front of me.

I was just going through the Voyager Microcontrols manual and saw that the Condenser Fan cycling temps on 12.5 to 25 ton units can be modified to something other than the normal 60ºf. It shows the temp can be set to as high as 80ºf before both fans are running. I know you stated the sensor tested to a temp of 85ºf, but with a few tolerances errors (meter, control board and sensor), the unit could still think it is below 80ºf. Is there a chance this unit has been modified? If all other testing comes up short, it might be something to look into. If you put an email address in your profile, I can send you the reference.

interesting. the theory could by tested by removing the OAS and connecting a resistor with an appropriate value to make the unit think it's hot enough to run the fan.
