Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite, Broxbourne

Description.

For those who want a back-to-basics camping experience, without the trappings of more commercial, caravan-friendly campsites, Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite is the place to stay. On the border of Hertfordshire and Essex and set right on the banks of the River Lee, this small campsite features just 20 camping pitches and one pre-pitched Safari Tent. 12 of the pitches are beside the river and eight are in a wooded glade. Campfires are allowed (£7 for a bag of logs) and fishing (with a permit) is too. Easily reached by bicycle, on foot or by canoe.

Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite on the borders of Essex and Hertfordshire is your chance for a wilderness adventure and an opportunity to get back to nature. The ultimate camping experience!

Embrace Mother Nature in this rugged, natural setting nestled among mature woodland and a grassy glade surrounded by water on three sides. Day

Rectory Hall

A bunch of cheating lying conman who took away our family camping trip that had been booked 7 weeks in advance due to them being greedy and double booking. Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful. The booking site ‘pitch up’ have taken them off of their listings due to there horrible mistreatment of my family. They called us at 4.30 pm when we were due to arrive the following morning and told us we had no pitches. Disgusting shameful and soul destroying to the 5 children who had been so looking forward to our camping trip !

Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear you had this experience, which was down to a computer error via PitchUp. We compensated you for the error as well as arranged an upgraded stay at Lee Valley Campsite, Sewardstone over the same dates as the original stay. We’re sorry for the upset and inconvenience this error caused you and your family however, we hope you enjoyed your stay at the alternative location we arranged for you.

We have been staying at Dobbs Weir for years but never got round to writing a review. But always loved it. Due to the coronavirus pandemic our stay with friends & our children got cancelled. However when they re opened in July & done everything they could to remain safe, yet still be professional. The staff were amazing. The site was so clean. The showers were warm & clean. I felt lucky to return in these early stages where only motor homes & their safari (where we stayed) & wigwams were open as it really helped the toilet situation & social distancing. Kids park was closed but we took water guns/games/bikes & worked well. Pub across the road has to be booked in advance. We felt truly lucky & such a nice stay. Well done.

safari tent lee valley

Fantastic little campsite tucked away where you would least expect it. I had been paying several times more to stay in a soulless business hotel in Harlow prior to staying here. This place is a breath of fresh air. The wigwam I stayed in was a delight, small enough to be cosy, large enough to feel perfectly comfortable. The utilities are great, a proper fridge and a microwave very useful. The heating was perfectly adequate even in January. The campsite has a relaxed vibe, the toilets were clean, the showers hot, staff friendly and accommodating. The area is teeming with wildlife and greenery. A*+ would recommend to all, looking forward to coming back.

26 of us booked to stay here in November 2019 and had the most amazing time despite the pouring rain. The staff in reception are polite, friendly and so helpful - they couldn't do enough for us. We thought we would be freezing in our wigwam at night but we were so hot we had to turn the heating off. Wigwams are spacious and clean as are all the facilities. Had the most amazing time and will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

  • Cleanliness

We stayed in a tent with electric, but also some of the family had motorhome, on-site wigwams and safari tents, camp is very well looked after,toilets/showers, play area for the children, level pitches, the staff were very helpful, everything explained about the site and shown to our pitches, yes there is an industrial est. next door but didn’t cause us any problems, also loads of lovely walks to be had along the river, very nice pub and cafe just outside. We loved it and will go back.

Alan Rogers Review of Lee Valley Caravan Park, Dobbs Weir

This large (27-acre) camping park is ideally situated in the Lee Valley for fishing, walking and cycling activities. It is divided into two sections: one for private static caravans with a large fenced caravan storage area, the other for touring. The 34 level touring pitches are numbered but not separated; all have 10A electricity, and 22 are hardstanding. There is an area for tents with a field adjacent to the River Lee for tents requiring electricity.

The whole complex is very flat with little shade. There is no public transport, but a 25-minute walk along a towpath takes you to Broxbourne railway station for travel along the Lee Valley to London. Reception has a range of maps showing walking routes. Within a short distance, there is riding and white-water rafting. Many of the villages and towns in the region are of historical interest and worth visiting, along with the close proximity of the Olympic Park and London.

Facilities at Lee Valley Caravan Park, Dobbs Weir

Two modern, heated toilet blocks with controllable showers, open washbasins and accessible sanitary facilities. Washing machines and dryers. Motorhome services. Small shop (open all season). Small play area. River fishing. Bicycle hire. WiFi over site.
