This is an outstanding READY TO SAIL Sloop. Length 27 Ft , beam 9.2Ft, draft 4.3 Ft. Used in fresh water on Lake Huron and on Lake Erie. There are impressive upgrades and improvements aboard this vessel. A new navy blue bimini was installed new this year and not on the pictures, but comes with boat. The power train consists of a professional factory rebuild on a Westerbeke four cylinder self-bleeding 30 HP Diesel (80 hrs.). Oil changes can be done in less than 15 minutes!. The attached drivetrain is 100% new as of 2014 as follows: Damper plate, Heavy duty adapter plate, Z-transmission, Coupler, Drive Shaft, Dripless seal, Cutlass bearing, Zinc, Engine rails and Mounts. This drive train provides superior maneuverability, smoothness, and quiet operation in any weather conditions and quickly starts in warm or cold temperatures. The rigging is in excellent condition with dual back stays, six shrouds and furling forestay. The aluminum mast features interior lines and floatation, All safety lines are new with heavy duty ¼ in ss cable and fittings. Sails consist of a nearly new 135% furling Genoa (This is a high end QUANTUM SAIL with all the bells and whistles) costing in excess of $2k. This sail is crispy and white complete with Sunbrella sun guard. The main is a fully battened Ray Leonard with double slab reefing and is in great shape (no rips or repairs) and comes with a matching Sunbrella sun cover. Lewmar winches in good working order, CSI Flexible Furler, Boomvang, Cunningham, Travel Car for main sheet,CQR 20 pound anchor and 100 feet of rope with short SS chain. 2nd Danforth lunch hook anchor, Simpson Lawrence 600 Electric windlass with capstan and deck mounted foot switches, Standard marine radio, New blue sea systems AC and DC electrical panels and all new wiring throughout, including the mast, new Moore digital sonar depth sounder, Bulkhead mounted compass and speed log. The hull is solid hand laid glass in superior condition with new Groco seacocks. The hull was awlgripped a few years back. Misc: Transom mounted SS swim ladder, solid SS bow cleats, Cabin fan, Halogen and LED interior lights, Custom dinette, New interior Cushions, Cockpit cushions (open cell foam), Electric and manual bilge pumps, plug in shore power and plug in generator wiring, SS fuel tank, Solid Brazilian cherry cabin sole, Map table with storage, Panasonic SS inverter microwave, Butane stove top burner, built in icebox and ice chest, deep sink, New Sealand toilet with new 7 gallon holding tank, and electric pump water flush, two New water storage tanks and all new water hoses and deck fittings for toilet, Hanging closet , V-bunk cabin with locking doors. This is a superior sailing boat with a very low center of gravity giving a stable ride without excessive healing. This sailboat is at its best in heavy weather. A great interior (see photos). 1979 Carter Craft Safari 28 Sport Fisher, This 28 Safari is an amazing boat. It was built in the late 1970S by Carter Marine as this boat has cruised in Alaska and Baja California on multiple trips. (I have the original log books)It has a comfortable, roomy, open floor plan with galley, spacious table and separate head. Great for family outings and cruising. Plenty of room for family and friends. It also has a spacious cock pit and with ample room for fishermen and gear to fish (or crab) without getting in each others way. The previous owner was a salmon fisherman and spent many hours with friends pulling in fish.There is a new bimini cover and new cockpit cover custom made by the previous owner.This boat has a 165 gallon fuel tank for plenty of range with a 35 gallon holding tank and two 30 gallon water tanks. It has twin Volvo (Chevy) 350s (fresh water cooled 270hp each) for plenty of power. The boat was repowered with these engines in the 1990s and they have 900+ and 1100+ hours on them, One was used exclusively for trolling when fishing and shows the extra hours. It is not uncommon to see 2500-3000 hours on these engines with proper care and these engines have been cared for professionally for years. The engines are easy to access and service which saves in mechanic time and remote oil filters are so easy to get to that an oil change can be done while out to sea. The outdrives are Volvo Penta 280s with Dual prop set ups. Dual props maximize power while providing about 20% more efficiency than single props.The manifolds have been upgraded to all bronze and are much more durable than the ones commonly found on these engines. The carburetors are newer and the starters were replaced by the previous owner. It has hydraulic power steering, 3 heavy duty batteries for engines and electronics and two deep cycle golf cart batteries for the cabin. (This boat never runs out of battery power) all charged by 100 amp marine alternators. When tied up the batteries are kept up to charge with a 110 v battery charger when hooked to shore power. There is a custom marine AC-DC circuit breaker panel and battery switches to disconnect the batteries when away. An automatic bilge pump and manually switched bilge pump provide peace of mind. Electric windlass for the anchor, trim tabs, plenty of lights below, DVD player for evening entertainment, three burner stove, refrigerator, microwave, and new sound system give this boat all of the amenities. The hull is hand laid fiberglass and is extremely thick (12 hand laid layers at the keel and 8 hand laid layers on the balance of the hull). These hulls are comparable to a Tollycraft, another quality boat of that era. It was designed to be out in the open sea and is constructed to be able to handle whatever nature can throw at it. $13500.00

About this boat.

This is a very nice Hampton, outside the paintwork is in good condition, she was anti-fouled in 2016 and the engine was serviced in 2018.

The interior is very smart and modern looking, there is a comfortable pilots chair, with all controls to hand on the dash board, including the rear view camera.

The saloon has a seating and dining area that will make into a double berth, all upholstery and curtains are in good condition, and there is sliding roof over for all weather conditions. There is warm air heating.

The galley is well equipped with a Nelson cooker which has 2 gas hobs, oven and grill, an Isotherm fridge, both new in 2016 there are nice cupboards and worktop with an inset sink and drainer, above the quiet Nanni engine is a wall cupboard and a microwave shelf, the galley blinds complete the clean, modern look of this boat.

The aft bedroom has a double berth with drawers and cupboards and the door to the rear cockpit.

The toilet and shower room has an electric macerator toilet and shower with a vanity unit which has a stainless sink, with hot and cold water set into worktop, again blinds complete the look.

An opportunity to buy one of these ever popular and sought after Broads Cruisers. A low air draft allows access to all of the Broads and is powered by 48hp Perkins 4108 engine that has been regularly serviced and maintained by both the current owner and the previous ones.

The screens were replaced in 2018 and has a current BSC until 04/09/2026. The cooker and fridge are recently installed. There is a USB charging point available.

The aft and screen covers are in very good condition.

Description A tidy example of the popular Safari design built by Hampton Boats of Oulton Broad from 1969 to 1982 when over 250 were built for hire fleets and private customers. With its fully enclosed accommodation and sliding roof, White Otter offers all year round cruising whatever the weather, and with a single diesel engine on a shaft drive she is as economical to run as she is practical to use. The EA Anglian Region navigation licence is paid to 31/3/2022 and a mooring on the River Cam may be transferrable subject to the marina owner's consent. Construction GRP moulded hull, decks and topsides with a GRP sliding roof section, aluminium framed single glazed windows, Treadmaster non-slip deck panels, aluminium and PVC gunwale fendering and hull straking, stainless steel cleats and hand rails. The GRP has been professionally painted in white and apart from a few minor scuffs and flaking, it is in very good condition.

Accommodation Access is via steps and through the stern door into the aft cabin with a fixed double berth to starboard, holding tank beneath, fitted storage lockers and drawers to port, doorway to the port side galley with fitted base units, stainless steel sink & drainer with hot and cold taps, four ring LPG hob and oven, dual voltage/LPG fridge (12v not fully working, possibly due to faulty wiring), engine cover midships, starboard side WC compartment with wash basin, shower attachment and pump-out toilet. The forward saloon is fitted with L shaped seating to starboard (double berth conversion to be confirmed) with storage and access to batteries and engine beneath, a pull-out table, forepeak storage locker, port side helm position with good visibility and a sliding roof section for sunny days and starlit nights.  The interior is largely original with its varnished timber work, smooth panelled head linings and wipe clean formica surfaces, with the addition of re-upholstered cushions, blue patterned carpet and complimenting curtains and blinds. Cabin headroom approximately 6'.

Engine BMC 1.5 4 cylinder diesel engine coupled to a shaft drive via a reduction gearbox with a single lever engine control. The engine was fully serviced in May 2021 and a new water pump fitted, and in August 2021 a new exhaust hose was fitted (invoices for the work are available).

Electrics 12v engine starting battery & 12v leisure battery (both replaced May 2021), domestic water pump, shower bilge pump, main bilge pump (automatic), lighting, sockets, small solar panel, navigation lights, Blaupunkt stereo unit and speakers. 230v shore power connection and cable, consumer unit, plug sockets, immersion heater. 

Equipment 2 x 15kg butane gas bottles, LPG hob and oven, dual voltage/LPG fridge, hot water calorifier (coupled to the engine and immersion heater), fire extinguishers and blanket, CO and smoke alarms, Mikuni LPG warm air cabin heater, Danforth anchor and chain, mud weight, mooring pins, blue fabric window covers, fenders.

The Hampton Safari remains ever popular due to her spacious interior, sliding cabin roof and ideal size for Broads cruising.

This example retains her original spacious internal fitout in good condition with ample cupboards and storage in both the saloon and aft cabin. She also benefits from being wintered ashore and a freshly serviced engine (March 2024)

Externally she has the odd ding and scuff and would benefit from a small amount of TLC.

She has been with the current owners since 2018 and is for sale due to them retiring from motor cruising.
