The culinary team behind Oceania Cruises continues to innovate, bringing new dining concepts to existing ships, such as Marina, while considering passenger feedback (the lasagna was once removed from Toscana’s menu and there was nearly a mutiny). These innovations span the trendy—smoking cocktails—to technical, as chefs consider the best-quality ingredients and how to source the best cuts of meat for a cruise ship that sails with more than 1,000 guests.

Beyond the excitement surrounding mealtimes, Oceania is also known for keeping itineraries fresh; Marina alone can zigzag from the Baltic Sea across Europe into South America and then onward to Antarctica in a single year. Touring and dining aside, the ambiance onboard Marina is relaxed. Children are welcome, but if they’re onboard they are the exception on a ship best suited to older adults. Marina is one of the few ships left sporting a sizable library that is both attractive and inviting in its design and substantial in its collection.

While quiet coffee counters and library nooks with faux fireplaces are likely to appeal to some, others will find the nightlife on Marina a bit lacking after 8 p.m. or so. Live music, nightly theater shows, and late-night karaoke attempt to keep the party going, but especially on a port-intensive itinerary, the crowd begins to fizzle out on the earlier side.

Still, Oceania’s Marina offers a comfortable way to travel to the corners of the earth, especially for those that like to taste its flavors along the way. A state-of-the-art culinary center onboard invites guests to immerse themselves in the process of cooking as well as the indulgence of eating. While steak and lobster still remain hallmarks of cruise fine dining, Oceania Cruises has evolved in recent years to embrace vegan specialties on its main dining menus.

An effort to bring new tours to the Oceania clientele, in categories such as “Go Local,” or “Go Green,” signifies an effort by the cruise line to connect the in-destination experience to something more personal as well as personalize it to more guests. Of course, it wouldn’t be Oceania Cruises without “Culinary Discovery” or “Food and Wine” excursions, which highlight unique epicurean experiences.

Inclusions like nonalcoholic drinks, specialty dining, and fitness classes make Oceania Cruises a good value.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

What to expect on board, staterooms & cabins.

There is a room for everyone onboard Oceania’s Marina, from expansive suites with wrapping balconies to cozy interior cabins (but no studio cabins). A great feature located on each passenger deck are launderettes, open and available to any passenger wanting to wash or dry attire during operating hours. Certain stateroom categories have dedicated lounges offering cold drinks, snacks, coffee or concierge services, and these are discreetly tucked away on each respective passenger deck, accessed by key card.

Each and every cabin features an interactive TV; mini-fridge with complimentary soft drinks; Vero still or sparkling water in refillable bottles; a safe; a hair dryer; cotton robes and slippers; wi-fi access; and Bulgari toiletries.

There are four categories of suites onboard Oceania’s Marina, ranging in size from 440 to more than 2,000 square feet. Found on all passenger decks, including all-suite Deck 12, Marina’s suites are well appointed and every category comes with butler service. Your butler offers a host of services, from serving afternoon tea in your cabin and bringing your favorite canapés each afternoon to booking reservations and handling laundry services. All suites come with a menu of perks from a complimentary shoe shine to use of an iPad while onboard.

Penthouse Suites begin at 440 square feet and are lovely, with fresh flowers, a dining table, spacious seating area, and walk-in closet. A nice touch is a selection of bath salts for rooms that include a soaking tub.

Oceania Suites jump up to 1,000 square feet, with more living space including a dining room, larger balcony, and king-sized bed. Indoor and outdoor whirlpool spa baths are just some of the lavish touches in these suites, which also feature daily fruit baskets, a second guest bathroom, and complimentary in-suite bar setup with six full-size bottles of premium spirits or wine.

There are eight Vista Suites, all in a prime location overlooking the bow or front of the ship. Ranging from 1,200 to 1,500 square feet, these little apartments feature dreamy balconies with incredible views as well as a private fitness room—in addition to the stunning, spacious marble bathroom, whirlpool tubs, king-sized bed, and the rest.

Each one of Marina’s three Owner’s Suites is furnished by Ralph Lauren Home, with exclusive fabrics and artwork. Measuring 2,000 square feet, you could comfortably stay in your suite for the duration. This stateroom has its own foyer and music room, double sinks in the main bathroom, and enviable amenities like the option to have a private lunch served in your suite on embarkation day.

There are three categories of ocean view cabins on Marina: Concierge Level Veranda Stateroom, Deluxe Oceanview, and Veranda Stateroom. Spread across nearly every passenger deck, from 7 to 11, oceanview rooms are the most abundant on Marina, sporting a balcony or a large window. The Deluxe Oceanview starts off at 240 square feet, and in place of a chintzy porthole, it features floor-to-ceiling windows with a small seating area. Veranda staterooms start at 291 square feet and feature a balcony with two chairs and a small table.

The Concierge Level Veranda is the same size as a standard veranda stateroom but introduces select suite amenities, including a concierge and a dedicated lounge; complimentary snacks, drinks, and newspapers; an expanded room service menu; three free bags of laundry; priority embarkation; access to the spa terrace; welcome Champagne and more.

There are a handful of inside cabins onboard Marina, scattered across Decks 8, 9, and 10. These 174-square-foot rooms provide luxury on a bit of a budget, with a vanity desk, plush bed, and marble and granite bathroom with shower.

There are six cabins onboard Oceania’s Marina designated as accessible. Midship on Deck 7, there are two balcony cabins as well as two oceanview cabins that are wheelchair accessible. On Deck 10, near the midship elevators, are two inside cabins that are accommodating to wheelchair users, with wider doorframes and more space to maneuver in the room. The suites onboard Oceania’s Marina are spacious, and many come with bathtubs, but they are not specifically designated as accessible staterooms.

Food & Drink

Pleasing your tastebuds is where Oceania Cruises truly shines, and onboard Marina, the cruise line succeeds in this regard in a number of ways. Oceania Cruises’ executive culinary director, Jacques Pepin, is a renowned French chef and the flavors of France are at the forefront at Jacques, one of the fine-dining restaurants onboard Marina—order the fish in puff pastry. The service continues to shine at Toscana, a Tuscan-inspired Italian venue with a cart dedicated just to olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Polo Grill is the de facto surf-and-turf steakhouse with Caesar salad prepared tableside, but, strangely, service suffered the most here. Red Ginger earns high marks for a low-lit moody ambiance and inventive pan-Asian menu, which includes a robust tea selection and the option to choose your own chopsticks. The best part? All guests have the ability to dine at the ship’s specialty restaurants free of charge.

Marina takes specialty dining a step further with Privee, a private dining experience for small parties tucked away between Toscana and Polo Grill on Deck 14 (made by reservation and for an extra fee). Additionally, guests who are game for yet another extravagant meal can pair seven rich dishes with wine selections curated by Wine Spectator at La Reserve, a for-fee restaurant that holds the recipe for a romantic evening.

Despite plentiful restaurants, passengers onboard Marina do not need to make a reservation to enjoy a delightful, multi-course meal. Oceania Cruises has always stood out for its high standard of quality in its main dining rooms, which is complemented by sparkling chandeliers and an elegant atmosphere. The Grand Dining Room is open nightly for dinner, most days for breakfast and occasionally for lunch, depending on the itinerary. The selection is impressive, and includes at least six vegan options at each meal, soups, salads, starters and menus of mains that range from a spa-inspired wellness selection to a daily international cuisine (Indian or Greek, for example). You could eat in the Grand Dining Room every night and not eat the same thing twice. In addition, service here is strong. The size and location of the Grand Dining Room allows guests to request two-tops or larger tables, with a good number of tables affording ocean or port views.

The Terrace Grill is one of the casual dining venue onboard Marina, located on Deck 12, but casual does not mean fast food. Arranged buffet-style, stations offer hot dishes, salads, sushi, bread, pastries, and even steak and lobster. There is an outdoor seating area here, which allows guests to take in al fresco dining in good weather. The Waves Grill is another casual option, located by the pool. It serves quick to-go breakfast options in the morning, plus an omelet station, and a la minute grilled sandwiches and salads in the afternoon. To the left of Waves Grill in the morning, guests will find a hidden gem of free pressed juices, smoothies, and bowls, with plenty of dairy-free options. In the afternoon, come here to cool off with an ice cream or sorbet. Oceania partners with gourmet ice cream company Humphrey Slocombe, and a rotation of surprising flavors like black sesame can be found here, in the Terrace Grill, and also on the dessert menu in the Grand Dining Room.

An expanded room service menu offers items like avocado toast for breakfast, alongside a 24-hour menu with plates, snacks, and sweets for any craving. Oceania Cruises does not charge for room service; guests in suites have the ability to order room service from specialty restaurants.

There is a lot to applaud regarding the dining program across Oceania Cruises and onboard Marina, but perhaps one of the most important aspects is accommodating dietary restrictions. By account of other guests with various dietary needs, Oceania receives high marks for handling requirements like sodium-free with aplomb, providing guests the option to discuss menus in advance with the chefs onboard.

The most popular bar onboard Marina is Martinis on Deck 6, serving up an entire menu of its namesake cocktail in eye-catching glassware. La Reserve Wine Bar is a tucked-away place for enjoying your favorite vintage. Other bars onboard are relatively generic, serving a full menu of drinks, from the classics to tipples with a modern twist. The Casino Bar, adjacent to the casino, has a separate entrance with a pink neon glow by night; it seems like a wasted opportunity for this space not to have its own dedicated menu or at least a featured cocktail, but the same drink menu is served at nearly all bars onboard, with the exception of Martinis.

Other bars of note include Waves Bar, which is by the pool and the place for frozen blended concoctions; Baristas on Deck 14 overlooks the pool deck and while it serves espresso drinks by day, it specializes in aperitifs by night; and Horizons, all the way up on Deck 15, is the place to dance the night away.

Alcoholic drinks are not included in the price of an Oceania Cruises’ vacation, but a variety of drink packages are available for purchase, depending on what beverages you plan to imbibe during the sailing. Nightly happy hours are held around the ship. Lucky for coffee-lovers, your daily latte never comes with a charge on Oceania’s ships.

Entertainment

On port-intensive itineraries, the entertainment is the destination. This enrichment is best bridged with Marina’s onboard culinary and art classes, held in dedicated, purpose-built studios called the Culinary Center and Artist Loft, respectively. These small-group classes offer the expertise of an artist-in-residence and a dedicated culinary advisor to not only hone painting or cooking skills, but to connect with the destination through self-expression—and of course, our stomachs. (The Culinary Center classes require a reservation and additional fee.) Select itineraries provide guests with the opportunity to book a tour that incorporates a local market or in-destination shopping element with a culinary course that teaches them to prepare local specialties using fresh ingredients that they might have purchased themselves in port.

In the realm of traditional, onboard evening entertainment, Marina struggles to stand out. Nightlife is a bit sleepy, with a pianist at the martini bar and a house band upstairs in the lounge. The nightly theater shows consist of featured guest artists who typically perform twice throughout the sailing, or the ship’s cast of singers and dancers who put on two to three generic variety shows on a 10-night voyage. A featured vocalist and musician who had performed on stage in London’s West End drew a strong repeat crowd, however a ventriloquist on a ship primarily full of older adults felt like a weak casting decision. Unfortunately, the original theater shows were no better with broad, unimaginative themes and performances that fell flat.

A small, dedicated group of guests could be found at the twice-daily trivia sessions. General trivia with a pre-dinner drink at Martinis is a pleasant way as any to kick off an evening, while another trivia session just before the theater show (typically themed to tie in with the show) was a clever way to draw in crowds for the stage performance. If guests need yet another reason to participate in events around the ship, like trivia, Oceania has a program called “O points” across its fleet that distributes points for participation. At the end of each cruise, passengers can “cash in” points for a variety of prizes, like branded tumblers, umbrellas, or even windbreakers, for the big winners.

Spa & Fitness

The Aquamar Spa and Vitality Center is the headquarters for wellness onboard Marina and is home to the ship’s spa and fitness center. The staff at the front desk are helpful, answering questions and explaining treatments, which guests rave about. One caveat: You might be so relaxed after a 90-minute aromastone massage that you accidentally tip 20 percent on top of the automatic 20 percent gratuity and have to make an embarrassing phone call later.

Unique treatments offered at Aquamar include a coconut poultice massage and a caviar facial. Included with each booked treatment is access to a sauna and steam room, which are located within the changing room of each gender (male/female). Spa guests also have access to a relaxation room with heated ceramic loungers and sea views, typically used while waiting for treatments. However, an outdoor spa terrace with a hot tub is private and only accessible to guests in certain categories of staterooms or with an additional fee. In addition to massages, facials, and medi-spa treatments, the spa includes a styling salon for hair and nail appointments.

Marina’s fitness facility is stocked with machines, though the space seems a little cramped, and the orientation of the machines is a bit awkward as only one wall features windows. The aerobics room is a bit more spacious, and a Kinesis exercise wall features cables and pulleys. Complimentary fitness classes are available each day, which range from sunrise yoga to core conditioning.

The fitness track for walking/jogging is on Deck 15 but is confined to the back of the ship, which means it is small and takes multiple laps to reach a mile. Also on Deck 15 is shuffleboard, croquet, and bocce courts. Take the stairs to the very top of the ship, on Deck 16 (also known as the Sports Deck), for paddle tennis, a putting green, and sun loungers for those who don’t wish to be active.

Health & safety.

Under Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Oceania Cruises participates in the SailSafe program, which employed enhanced safety measures for guests and crew throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. As of September 3, 2022, fully vaccinated passengers are no longer required to test prior to boarding; unvaccinated travelers are now welcome to sail Oceania Cruises with a negative test result within 72 hours of boarding (PCR or antigen). Mask-wearing onboard is optional, though guests are encouraged to review their individual itinerary in order to comply with potential local regulations, which could include mandatory masks and/or proof of vaccination.

Oceania Cruises’ ships are intended to be “floating five-star hotels,” according to long-time SVP of Hotel Operations, Franco Semeraro. As such, you’ll find that fellow guests stick to a version of country club casual during the day. There are no designated formal nights, but most passengers dress up for evenings onboard. Jeans, shorts, sneakers, and T-shirts are discouraged at dinner, particularly in the specialty restaurants such as Polo Grill or Jacques. If a guest wishes to stay casual for dinner, they can dine at the buffet-style Terrace Cafe.

Junior Cruisers

Children are welcome onboard Oceania Cruises, though there are no dedicated kids’ clubs or activities designated for junior cruisers. Children must be 6 months old to board; 12 months if there are three or more consecutive days at sea. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18 in their stateroom as well as on all Oceania Cruises-sponsored shore excursions.

The crew onboard Oceania’s Marina are extremely accommodating and service levels are kept relatively consistent throughout the ship. There is a certain standard of formality onboard, which encompasses each crew member stopping to say “good morning/afternoon/evening” during every interaction. You can also expect freshly ground pepper to be offered at almost every course of all meals—to the point of satire. A fellow guest observed that her water glass never dipped below a certain level, and she was right; servers are unusually attentive, especially in the Grand Dining Room.

A $16 gratuity is added per person, per day for gratuities on Oceania Cruises. Guests in suites with butler service are charged $23 per person, per day. An automatic 20 percent gratuity is added to all beverage purchases, spa treatments, and dinner at La Reserve. Tips can be adjusted at the guest’s discretion.

Marina Overview

A sailing on the Oceania Marina is like a master class in sophistication. The ship, which debuted in 2011, features marble, gold and sparkling chandeliers. The centerpiece of the ship is a Lalique staircase. Onboard you have the opportunity to dine at nine different venues including Jacques, created by beloved French chef Jacques Pepin. The sumptuous French dishes are served in a warm bistro setting accented with Pepin’s own personal art collection. For those looking to celebrate a special occasion, the Oceania Marina has Privee, a 10-person dining room with onyx walls where the organizer can create a specialized menu. You can also hone your artistic skills by taking a class at the Artist Loft or at the Bon Appetit Culinary Center.

Conceived by the famed New York designer Dakota Jackson, each of the twelve Oceania Suites sprawls luxury. These stylish suites feature a living room, dining room, fully equipped media room, large walk-in closet, king-size bed, expansive private veranda, indoor and outdoor whirlpool spas and a second bathroom for guests. Also included is access to the private Executive Lounge with magazines, daily newspapers, beverages and snacks.

Given their lavish interior design by Dakota Jackson and premier location overlooking the bow of the ship, the eight Vista Suites are in high demand. These suites (size depends on deck location) include access to the exclusive Executive Lounge as well as every imaginable amenity, such as a large walk-in closet, a second bathroom for guests, indoor and outdoor whirlpool spas and your own private fitness room.

Celebrity Beyond Arrow

Cruise ships often get compared to floating hotels or resorts, but here’s one that feels like a floating Vegas show. Applause, please, for the glittering peacock made from Swarovski crystals and the Magic Carpet platform that shimmies up and down the ship, cantilevered over the water for some of the best seats in the house, while in the Martini Bar, a troupe of bartenders juggle shakers to the sound of “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” Beyond is one of the largest ships in Celebrity’s Edge class, and all that space is used to maximize the drama. A whole corridor is filled with a glowing installation of bronze sculptures reflected in infinity mirrors; a favorite anchorage was Eden, a beautiful, biophiliac bubble for hiding away in, watching the ship’s wake through triple-height windows and dawdling in swivel chairs that resemble green carnations. As for the cast, there are some stellar performers: Kelly Hoppen designed most of the interiors; Daniel Boulud’s debut signature restaurant at sea, Le Voyage, has an impeccable, globe-trotting menu alighting on Brazilian moqueca and tamarind prawns. But top of the bill is Captain Kate McCue, the first American woman to captain a cruise ship. A captain hasn’t been this synonymous with their ship since the days of Merrill Stubing; follow her social media for a glimpse into the art of ship navigation. During our short, prelaunch cruise, we had an itinerary that involved looping round and round the Isle of Wight—a short trip, but one that was big on sheer spectacle. Delfin II Arrow

The Amazon River has the opacity of chocolate milk and is almost deathlike in its stillness—which is wild when you consider how much life thrives there. It was on a nine-day journey through Peru with Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic that I learned this, as we spent five of those days exploring the jungle by boat. Our chariot: the Delfin II , a Relais & Châteaux vessel with 14 thoughtfully appointed staterooms.

Most days began with a crack-of-dawn skiff ride soundtracked by the squall of jewel-winged, dusky-headed parakeets. The photographers pulled out their football lenses and the birders gasped from behind their binoculars as naturalists pointed out an elegant snowy egret picking its way through a mudbank, a neotropic cormorant spreading its gothy black wings like a vampire, and the somber Jabiru stork, the largest flying bird in South America, standing like a dour English butler on a naked tree limb. Also flagged were capuchin monkeys, giant river otters, flamboyant bromeliads, and—after dark—scores of caimans and capybaras.

We spent one muggy morning in a Kukama village, where indigenous women wove raffia bowls and cooked catfish, and another morning paddling the river—an outing which culminated with a pod of pink river dolphins leaping from the water mere feet from our kayaks. (Even our seen-it-all naturalist, Sandro, clapped like a schoolgirl.)

This deep in the Amazon jungle, there were no other tourists. When we did see signs of human life, they were usually fishermen or park rangers. And because there was no Wi-Fi on the Delfin II and a near total blackout on cell reception, downtime was spent attending lectures on Amazonian ecology, sampling native fruits (how the aptly named ice cream bean hasn’t been pitched on Shark Tank yet, I’ll never know), and buddying up to the ship bar, where I made fast friends of fellow guests. (Expedition cruises always draw a fascinating lot; my cohort included a microbiologist, metaphysical transcendentalist, and one of the earliest Apple employees.)

The highlight of the trip, however, was hiking through the jungle with a local tracker who showed us a brown-throated three-toed sloth, Goliath bird-eating tarantula, junior anaconda, and a century-old strangler fig. When we finally emerged from the bush, we were treated to a spectacular tangerine-and-charcoal sunset punctured by bolts of lighting. It was surreal and intense, just like everything else in this untouched corner of the world. Eight-day sailings from $5,730 per person. —Ashlea Halpern

Ritz-Carlton Evrima Arrow

Ritz-Carlton’s first foray into cruising, the Evrima is a hotel-at-sea experience that might just be the antidote to all the big ship itineraries. Think ultra-small ship luxury (at half the capacity of the Seabourns and Regents) with plenty of scenery options to choose from—the European Mediterranean (routes from Turkey to the Canary Islands) from spring through fall, and the Caribbean (San Juan to St. Barts) in winter—and a younger crowd than most of the luxury cruise market; mostly culture lovers with a dearth of cruising experience who can't wait to get ashore to the Côte d’Azur village restaurants. The 624-foot ship is the first in a fleet of three emerging over the next few years, and it still feels spacious with 149 suites, two pools, a cigar humidor, six bars (the interior Living Room and top-floor Observation Lounge, The Bar, and bars located at the Marina Terrace, the Pool House, and Mistral), a beauty salon and spa deck, water-level marina terrace with water toys, and a fitness center. The 246 staff range from deck crew to your cabin’s personal concierge, all of whom are dubbed the ship’s Ladies and Gentlemen—but titles feel almost superfluous aboard Evrima , where everyone from the tender drivers to dining leads will pause to actually get to know you and recall your name and story (and even your drink order) to make the entire experience feel organic and warm. Hurtigruten is an Oslo-based line whose ships have traversed these waters since 1893, ferrying freight, mail, and passengers to the communities along the rugged coast. In 2023, to celebrate its 130th anniversary, the company’s flagship, the newly refurbished, 500-passenger MS Trollfjord (named for a fjord in the Vesterålen archipelago) began sailing two hybrids of its original 34-port Norwegian Coastal Express, calling at several of the towns and villages on the original route. Six days sailing from England to New York across the vast Atlantic had the potential to bore me to stupefaction, but it turned out I had nothing to fear. “The ship is the destination,” said an entertainment director for Queen Mary 2 , who oversees a program that makes this cruise liner the undisputed hub of creative and intellectual stimulation on the high seas. Where else can you attend the annual Literature Festival At Sea, meeting top fiction and nonfiction authors like the late PJ O’Rourke, Bernadine Evaristo, and Louis de Bernières? And where else can you visit a planetarium, watch a Royal Shakespeare theater production, or hear guest speakers discuss artwork investments and the history of airport drug mules?

In between spa massages and table tennis rallies, I nourished my mind in the mahogany library before nourishing my body at the Princess Grill and Queens Grill restaurants, scarfing dishes like croquette of suckling pig, paired with excellent vintages and followed by mango panna cotta. On the final stretch of the journey, as dolphins leapt over the horizon and the Statue of Liberty loomed into view, my heart sank a little—New York City awaited, yet I didn’t want to disembark. During my first few hours aboard the Atlas Ocean Voyages World Navigator, I felt a bit like I had inadvertently crashed a family reunion: Seemingly everyone else aboard this Arctic expedition had just sailed to Antarctica on the Navigator six months before, so several crew members and guests spent much of embarkation day hugging and catching up. With a maximum occupancy of 196, it’s already an intimate ship, but the fact that the relatively young brand, which debuted in 2019, could develop such an impressive number of repeat travelers in such a short spell speaks volumes. Many told me they were drawn to Atlas because of its eco-friendly bona fides (the new-build ship makes use of hybrid engines from Rolls-Royce designed to leave minimal impact), but the creature comforts on board certainly help. While the star attraction of such an expedition voyage is what lies beyond the decks—access to remote Antarctic fjords that larger vessels can’t dream of traversing, or spotting polar bears loping along pearly glaciers in the Arctic—I made the most of my time in between Zodiac expeditions. The multi-jet shower in my stateroom was sublime after damp and rigorous treks, the heated massage beds in the only L’Occitane Spa at sea are a dream, and the Arctic summer’s 24 hours of sunshine made the Dome observation deck a prime perch to cozy up with a book at any time of day or night. There was neither internet nor cell phone connectivity during my entire eight-day journey sailing thanks to the remote latitudes (though Atlas guests now have access to full Starlink satellite coverage), which meant this was the longest I’d been offline since the 1990s—and yet somehow, drifting through the surreal landscape in this cosseting bubble, I didn’t miss scrolling or chatting with the outside world one bit. Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity offers special rates and packages throughout the year that save money over a la carte pricing – and elevate your onboard experience to be more inclusive. You'll be able to access the best deal on the added perks if you book the upgraded package before you sail, saving up to 40 to 50 percent of the actual cost.

The line's "All-Included" package bundles the most popular add-ons for cruisers: a standard beverage package for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, unlimited basic Wi-Fi, and gratuities for the staff and crew. Pricing depends on the stateroom or suite category and sailing.

There are other options when booking a cruise with Celebrity to create a more upscale and all-inclusive experience. Guests staying in all-suite The Retreat have exclusive access to a sundeck (on select ships), a lounge and Luminae – a private restaurant that features Global Culinary Ambassador Daniel Boulud at the helm. Guests of The Retreat booking the "All-Included" package receive a premium beverage package, premium unlimited Wi-Fi, gratuities and an onboard credit.

If you book AquaClass accommodations, you'll also have access to complimentary amenities and perks, such as unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite, discounts on spa treatment packages and complimentary fitness classes. In addition, you'll also find a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival (by request) and two bottles of water refreshed daily in your room. AquaClass guests also have exclusive access to the restaurant Blu. You can add the "All-Included" package to your booking, which will include the Classic Drinks Package, basic Wi-Fi and gratuities.

Passengers who want to book this "All-Included" package and are sharing a stateroom or suite will need to book the same package.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian also offers promotional fares and special deals throughout the year that feature similar amenities and perks to what you'll find on an all-inclusive cruise. The "Free at Sea" deal bundles discounts on the cruise, free specialty dining, unlimited open bar privileges, shore excursion credits, savings on Wi-Fi access, discounts on the third and fourth guests in the stateroom, and a 2-for-1 deal on airfare.

"Free at Sea Plus" takes the package up a notch with a more comprehensive beverage selection, including top-shelf cocktails, Champagne by the glass, bottles of select premium wines at dinner and signature Starbucks coffee drinks. This option also includes unlimited Wi-Fi, additional nights of specialty dining and shore excursions.

Prices for both packages on Norwegian Cruise Line will depend on the dates, length and destination of the cruise.

Holland America Line

Holland America Line's "Have It All Premium Cruise Package" is available to book for cruises six days or longer, excluding the line's Grand Voyages. The benefits vary depending on the length of the trip but include credits for shore excursions; the Signature Beverage Package; specialty dining at Tamarind, Pinnacle Grill or Canaletto; and a Wi-Fi Surf Package. The cost starts at $50 a day per person. 

An early booking bonus for this package includes an Elite Beverage Package upgrade, covered crew appreciation charges and a premium Wi-Fi upgrade. Holland America has other special promotions throughout the year. One of these is an early booking bonus of up to $400 in onboard credit per stateroom for Mariner Society members.

Princess Cruises

"Princess Plus" and "Princess Premier" packages offer guests two options to upgrade their onboard amenities from the standard Princess Cruises plan, which covers accommodations, dining, entertainment and the line's signature MedallionClass experience.

"Princess Plus" perks include a beverage package with drinks up to $15 each, Wi-Fi on one device per guest, gratuities for the crew, two premium desserts a day (think hazelnut gelato at the onboard gelateria), two fitness classes per cruise (such as Pure Barre or YogaSix) and unlimited trips to the juice bar. The cost is $60 per day per person for this middle-tier package.

Additional benefits of the highest-tier option, at $80 per person per day, include the Premier Beverage Package, which covers drinks up to $20 each, and Wi-Fi for up to four devices per guest. Other features of the "Princess Premier" upgrade are two specialty meals, a photo package, Princess Prizes, reserved theater seating and a Medallion accessory.

It’s inevitable: every spring when we pull together the Hot List, our annual collection of the world’s best new hotels, restaurants, and cruise ships, a staffer remarks that this latest iteration has got to be the best one ever. After a year’s worth of travelling the globe – to stay the night at a converted farmhouse in the middle of an olive grove outside Marrakech or sail aboard a beloved cruise line’s inaugural Antarctic voyage – it’s easy to see why we get attached. But this year’s Hot List, our 28th edition, might really be the best one ever. It’s certainly our most diverse, featuring not only a hotel suite that was once Winston Churchill’s office, but also the world’s largest cruise ship and restaurants from Cape Town to Bali . We were surprised and inspired by this year’s honorees, and we know you will be too. These are the Hot List cruise winners for 2024.

Celebrity Ascent, Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity is a premium big-ship cruise brand, focusing on exquisite dining, cutting-edge amenities, Instagram-worthy public spaces chock-full of bespoke art pieces, and avant-garde onboard entertainment. The ship makes passengers feel, in a word, glamorous. Celebrity Ascent’s sumptuously designed interiors are flooded with natural light and evoke an air of playful sophistication that makes a week on board an escape worth cherishing. Passengers may find themselves longing to return for just one more succulent crab claw at Raw on 5, one more martini poured by bottle-spinning bartenders in the Martini Bar, or one more dazzling, acrobatic stage show, in the days following their farewells to this beautiful ship. Emerald Sakara, Emerald Cruises

Now with two oceangoing vessels joining Emerald’s more established fleet of nine river-dedicated “Star-Ships,” the decade-old cruise line is extending a brand built on unpretentious luxury to more corners of the world. Christened last August , the 100-guest superyacht, Sakara, is a near twin to Azzurra, which in 2022 ushered in a new era for Emerald by taking to the high seas. Sakara, like its sister, delightfully blurs the line between the luxury and ultra-luxury cruise categories, offering attentive service, gourmet cuisine, tasteful decor, and an eclectic slate of activities at a price point friendly to more budgets. The cherry on top with both superyachts is a slew of perks atypical of small-ship sailing, ranging from an impressively comprehensive spa to a marina platform well equipped for more fun in the sun. Despite having so much good stuff, each vessel is remarkably spacious. Getting a sense of being on a private yacht is easy like Sunday morning. Sakara is homeported in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean through at least March 2026; Azzurra, too, in addition to the Middle East, Kenya, and the Seychelles . Emerald’s river operations are based in Europe and Southeast Asia. (Note that a third ship, the Kaia, has just been announced by the cruise line; it debuts in April 2026, and, for all the early birds, it is now open for bookings.) From around £3,112. Explora I, Explora Journeys

With a showpiece lobby bar, upscale restaurants, and a sultry infinity pool, Explora Journeys' relaxed luxury-resort-at-sea vibe strikes the perfect balance on Explora I. Launched in August 2023, the all-inclusive ship is disarmingly beautiful. A sleek navy blue exterior cocoons 461 suites, all with deep balconies, walk-in closets, and marble bathrooms. There is free-flowing Champagne, 7,500 square feet of wellness space, and 18 drinking and dining venues. From Emporium Marketplace, with its decadent raw bar, to pan-Asian restaurant Sakura, the dining on Explora I is sensational. Marble & Co. Grill is an intimate steakhouse where ageing meats hang in temperature-controlled cabinets. At Anthology, the ship's only supplementary restaurant, guest chefs – such as Claude Le Tohic of San Francisco's O' by Claude Le Tohic – curate sublime tasting menus. There's more: The only Rolex boutique at sea, huge hot tubs, and a shore program that sees some land experiences developed in partnership with revered explorer Mike Horn. Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean International

Aboard the Icon, you can really get lost. The behemoth is just plain big, with a capacity for nearly 8,000 when combining passengers and crew across 20 decks and 250,800 gross tons. Two and a half laps around the ship’s jogging track, a particular highlight onboard, and you’ve run a mile. So one can find themselves in need of a map – forgetting your sunscreen , for example, in your cabin is a bit of a chore depending on how far you’ve made it. But the abundance of things to do is also narcotic, and you feel a bit like a lotus-eater attempting to navigate it all while keeping your head. Amid the relentless entertainment, not to be missed are the top-notch performers present everywhere, from the Olympic-level aquatics show that you can watch from the windows of the speciality seafood restaurant should seating be elusive (it often is) to the cafeteria, where crewmembers dressed as food items sing songs reminding (commanding, actually, which is fabulous) passengers to wash their hands at sinks near the entrance. If you wish to enjoy the largest waterpark at sea, by the way, do what I did not and pack a swimsuit without zippers. From around £1,818 . Charlie Hobbs

MSC Euribia, MSC Cruises

Looking at a row of cruise ships in port, you'll spot MSC Euribia right away. She's covered bow to stern by an ocean-themed mural by German artist Alex Flämig that bears the hashtag #SaveTheSeas nodding to the MSC's dedication to sustainable cruising: the Italian cruise line aims to be net-zero by 2050. MSC Euribia brings it one step closer to that goal, as it's the fleet's greenest ship yet, operating on liquified natural gas (LNG) and running advanced water and waste treatment systems onboard. But enough with the technical details – this mega-ship is packed with activities and entertainment, with 10 restaurants, 21 bars, five pools, two performance venues, and a bevvy of family-friendly amenities, like an F1 simulator, a waterpark, and a bowling alley. More adult-oriented highlights include the MSC Aurea Spa, with a thermal suite outfitted with thalassotherapy pools, a salt cave, and a snow room, as well as the Helios Wine Maker bar for wine tastings. Norwegian Viva, Norwegian Cruise Line

The second entry in Norwegian Cruise Line’s new Prima Class, Viva is like an Irish twin of older sister Prima. There’s the same stateroom count at 1,586, done in pristine and pleasing neutrals, as well as familiarly tricked-out amenities like the zippy 1,400-foot go-kart racing track that undulates over-the-top decks. Importantly, the Ocean Walk, which my colleague Mercedes Bleth adored aboard the Prima, remains. But round two afforded the premier name in large-ship cruising a chance to tweak and perfect, with an influx of seating options both in the ship’s complimentary dining hall as well as on its myriad decks. Across from the signature “zero-waste” Metropolitan Bar, where yummy drinks are whipped up from the ship’s food waste (I particularly enjoy a buttery Croissant Mai-Tai, for which hardening pastries are boiled down into sweetening syrup; the same is done with banana peels) is an interactive piece of digital art 52 feet wide that sees butterflies flit beside passersby. Oceania Vista, Oceania Cruises

Vista, Oceania’s first new ship in more than a decade and the first of its Allura Class, debuted with small but mighty upgrades to its previous ships: better stabilisers for a smoother sailing experience; stronger Wi-Fi; lighting and architecture designed to make the ship’s common spaces look and feel roomier; a resort-like pool deck; and balconies in every cabin. The real star of the show, though, is the food and beverage experience – Vista’s culinary program delivers on its promise of top-quality venues you’ll want to make the rounds at. New to the lineup are Ember, a steakhouse with decor straight out of Napa Valley , and Aquamar Kitchen, serving up lighter fare that doesn’t skimp on taste. Celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, or a just-because occasion with the Cellar Masters Wine Luncheon, a five-course meal and wine pairing. And don’t miss the elaborate sea day brunch, where towers of lobster, crab, and caviar await. Of course, the ship is just one destination. This year, Vista is splitting time between the Mediterranean and the Caribbean; next year, it will venture farther into Europe with ports of call like Istanbul , Stockholm, and Klaipeda, Lithuania. Scenic Eclipse II, Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours

The eagerly awaited Scenic Eclipse II is the new and improved version of Scenic's first expedition vessel, Scenic Eclipse. Dubbed "discovery yachts" for their sleek look and top-tier service, the sisters are nearly identical, with most changes so subtle that most guests might not even notice them, such as the slight enlargement of the steam room in the spa. But a big difference can be found on deck 10, where a plunge pool with jets for simulated lap swimming has taken the place of two hot tubs – and there's a new Sky Bar up here. Otherwise, Scenic Eclipse II has the same beloved amenities of its sister, most notably 10 exceptional dining experiences, from a sushi bar to a French restaurant with an attached Champagne bar; a 5,920-square-foot spa; two helicopters; and a submersible. Seabourn Pursuit, Seabourn Cruise Line

Pursuit is a small, “yacht-like” expedition ship with a distinct green exterior whose destinations range from Antarctica to warmer climes like the Kimberley in Australia. The decadent cabins, bigger than some standard hotel rooms, feel spacious and relaxing, complete with all the subtle touches that make you feel immediately at home. You can hang your evening attire in the walk-in closet and dry your wet swimwear – or damp Arctic expedition gear – in the built-in warming compartment; have sunrise breakfasts or sunset cocktails mixed at the in-room wet bar on your private balcony; and sleep in a plush, queen-sized bed. Seven Seas Grandeur, Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Ports in the Caribbean, the Greek islands , and the Riviera might be the draw, but the all-inclusive luxury line Regent Seven Seas Cruises produces ships that have travellers looking forward to those days at sea, as its sixth offering, Grandeur, further proves. All of the 372 suites, which start at a roomy 307 square feet, are decorated in calming neutral blues and beige, and feature furnished balconies; most have L'Occitane bubbles for the marble tub. Quiet comfort can also be had in the Serene Spa & Wellness outdoor lounge area, following a massage on a quartz crystal bed that mimics the feel of warm sand. Cravings for a porterhouse or a vegetarian Salisbury steak can be sated by Prime 7, with other venues serving speciality pan-Asian cuisine, French fare, ample buffets, and Italian offerings. Mainstay Compass Rose has been reimagined as a light, airy space where diners breakfast under playfully elegant pillars that resemble crystal trees. A voyage on Silversea’s latest ship, Silver Nova, is one of taste and style. The Nova’s reimagined culinary experience, SALT (Sea and Land Taste), is the first large-scale, regional restaurant at sea, and acts as an invitation to guests to experience more than an excursion. While initially introduced on Silver Moon, the Nova’s SALT program includes SALT Lab by day: an intimate cooking class with highly acclaimed chefs and regional cuisine recipes inspired by the next destination. With one nightly seating, SALT Chef's Table offers an exclusive and creatively interactive dining experience. Viking Aton, Viking River Cruises

In the style of all Viking ships, the Rottet Studio – designed Aton is intended for comfortable and thought-provoking exploration – just look to the book-filled shelves in the cabins, curated by London’s Heywood Hill library, and the revolving door of on-board lecturers (on my trip, an English curator spoke about the evolving depictions of Egypt in 1900s popular art). It should be no surprise that in a destination as rich and storied as Egypt ’s Nile, where the Aton is permanently based, the guides set apart what may read as a quintessential itinerary. On the Pharaohs & Pyramids journey, which takes travellers from the Valley of the Kings, where King Tut lies, to the Great Pyramid of Giza and well beyond over 12 days, esteemed Egyptologists oscillate from translating hieroglyphics on temple walls in real-time to shepherding travellers through modern night markets with endless fervour. On this ship it isn’t just what you see but how much you listen – and the team here, predominantly Egyptian, has much to say. Compared with its sister ships, the newest Virgin Voyages addition includes upgraded onboard entertainment and exciting new ports of call like the Greek Islands, Bali, and Mumbai . Most of the shows on this specific ship are new to the line, such as Persephone, an interactive performance developed in collaboration with famed Brooklyn nightclub House of Yes, and Another Rose, an immersive dinner experience. Dining options are abundant on the ship – 20-plus to be exact – and all of them are included with every passenger ticket. Back in your cosy stateroom, Champagne and strawberries await, as do the views from a Juliet or walkout balcony. The look throughout the 100 cabins and public spaces is Scandinavian modern, thanks to blond woods, marble floors, plush carpets in geometric patterns, and curvaceous furniture draped in velvety fabrics. In the elegant dining room, the focus is on international cuisine with a farm-to-table slant – think mushroom risotto and smoked duck with chargrilled vegetables. Meanwhile, the multipage cocktail menu beckons guests to a pair of spacious lounges. Blending yacht-style elegance and boutique-resort intimacy, this is a ship where you can make new friends easily but also retreat to a favourite spot to enjoy high tea in peaceful solitude while awaiting details from the crew on the adventures that lie ahead. A Classic Steakhouse

Polo Grill embodies all the elements of a classic steakhouse, expressing them with timeless reverence. Mindful of tradition, the decor features crisp, white linen tablecloths, dark wood furnishings and supple, high-back, burgundy leather chairs. Each course stands as the very definition of time-honored favorites, most notably the beef dishes, all of which are certified Black Angus USDA Prime and dry aged to enhance tenderness and flavor.
