Concert review: nelly “live from the drive in” @ hollywood casino amphitheatre 7/12/20 — st. louis, mo.

This weekend, Live Nation launched their first ever U.S. drive-in concert series –  Live From The Drive In  – marking a highly anticipated return to live, in person events in a safe and socially distanced manner.  Nelly , Darius Rucker, Jon Pardi, El Monstero, and Yacht Rock Revue kicked off the series with performances across Nashville, St. Louis, and Indianapolis. Country superstar Brad Paisley headlined the Live Nation U.S. drive-in concert series and all three stops were sold out; however, it was a particularly epic night for Nelly and St. Louis hip-hop fans — as Nelly celebrated the 20th anniversary of his album Country Grammar on Sunday at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

After a recorded audio introduction by Cedric the Entertainer (of Berkeley), Nelly took the stage for the album’s first song, “St. Louie,” wearing a Cardinals cap, camo sweats and a white tank top that he eventually ditched.

The songs “Greed Hate Envy,” “Country Grammar” and a remix of the title song followed. “If you like what you’re hearing, I want to hear you honk your fuckin’ horn,” Nelly instructed. “We’re not clapping; we’re honking tonight.”

Live Nation re-imagined the live music experience during a time of social distancing by allowing fans to enjoy concerts in a one-of-a-kind drive-in setting from their own private tailgating zones next to their cars. Concert-goers went all out to make the experience their own with vintage cars, yard games, chairs and plenty of food and drinks.

The main focus for the weekend was social distancing, and Live Nation worked closely with local officials and health experts to carefully plan all aspects, from the layout to sanitation and everything in between to ensure everyone’s safety. Speakers blasted the live music across the parking lots and huge video walls were scattered so guests could have a visual on the performers.

Janet Jackson tour with Nelly is coming to Phoenix. How to get tickets

One year after announcing her highly anticipated return to the road with her Together Again tour, five-time Grammy-winning Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee Janet Jackson has added 35 dates to the tour, with Nelly as her special guest.

The new set of dates includes Phoenix, where the Together Again tour will wrap at Footprint Center on Tuesday, July 30.

Ms. Jackson’s Together Again 2024 Tour builds on the success of the 2023 run, the highest-selling trek of her career, which featured 36 sold-out shows and got rave reviews from fans and press.

Okayplayer said, “Janet has still got it, serving as our beloved sex symbol, superstar and Queen of Pop that no one has come close to emulating,” while azcentral headlined its review , “Janet Jackson's sexy, powerful Phoenix performance proves she's still the Queen of Pop.”

Produced by Live Nation, the 2024 leg of the Together Again tour will launch at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California, on June 4.

Nelly Pops Up As a Surprise Guest at Tim McGraw’s St. Louis Show [Watch]

F ans who turned out to see Tim McGraw ‘s Standing Room Only Tour stop in St. Louis, Mo. on Friday night (March 22) were in for a special treat: The country superstar brought rapper Nelly to the stage during his set.

They performed their 2004 duet “Over and Over,” a song that originally came off of Nelly’s Suit album. The song was a hit after its release, landing at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

McGraw and Nelly have had plenty of opportunities to play their song live together since they put it out two decades ago, and onstage in St. Louis, the pair acted like old friends. McGraw wrapped Nelly in a huge hug when the rapper joined him onstage, and the pair performed their song with their arms around each other. “Gonna replay this moment over and over again,” McGraw wrote on social media after the fact, sharing a few photos of their time together onstage and backstage at the show. “Thanx [Nelly] for a big surprise in STL last night!!”

After “Over and Over” came out, Nelly’s interest in the country genre continued. He’s collaborated with several stars over the years, most famously with Florida Georgia Line : Their remixed version of the duo’s “Cruise” was an even bigger hit than the already-stratospheric 2012 original.

In 2021, Nelly released Heartland , an album full of country collaborations. Darius Rucker , Kane Brown and Tyler Hubbard are just a few of the stars who contributed to that project.

Country music superstar Tim McGraw is in the midst of his Standing Room Only tour, and this weekend while in St. Louis, McGraw gave concert-goers a huge surprise. During the show, Tim treated fans to a live version of his 2004 crossover hit "Over and Over," featuring rapper Nelly.

While this is not the first time McGraw has invited his collaborator on stage, fans obviously went wild! Singing like old friends, the two sounded just as great as they did 20 years ago!

Tim also took to social media to share a few onstage memories from the fun night." Gonna replay this moment over and over again…. Thanx   @nelly  for the big surprise in STL last night!!"

The Missouri twang in Nelly’s voice made him stand out in a 2000s rap landscape dominated by the two coasts and, increasingly, the South. But the St. Louis MC (born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. in Austin, Texas, in 1973) used that outlier status to his advantage both then and throughout a career that’s found him blurring borders between hip-hop and other genres. Nelly bounded into pop immediately with 2000’s Country Grammar, debuting his lilting, keyed-up melodic rhymes over boastful cuts like the title track, which converted a schoolyard clapping game into an instantly familiar, uniquely playful hook. He solidified his mainstream status on 2002’s Nellyville thanks to “Hot in Herre,” a funky, sweaty night-out essential blessed by the white-hot touch of The Neptunes. On the very same album, he confidently strode into R&B, holding his own in a romantic duet with Kelly Rowland at the height of Destiny’s Child’s power (“Dilemma”), and sounding surprisingly sweet while attempting to woo a woman away from her man. Nelly continued to court disparate but complementary sounds on Sweat and Suit, 2004’s two-album drop that separated party jams from smooth grooves. The latter produced the Tim McGraw-assisted “Over and Over,” a tastefully country-fied rumination on heart-wrenching breakups. He revisited western territory in later years, lending his amped energy to both Florida Georgia Line and Jimmie Allen early in their careers. With an insatiable curiosity and a penchant for hybridizing country, rap, and pop, Nelly helped blaze a trail for next-generation genre-hoppers like Lil Nas X, who would shatter norms himself.

The Blue Angels will headline the Chesterfield air show Saturday. Here's what to know

The 2024 Spirit of St. Louis Air Show and STEM Expo will welcome the Blue Angels as the show's headlining act on June 8-9.

The U.S. Navy flight demonstration team will be joined by 17 other civilian and military aeronautical performers, including the Boeing F-15 Advanced demo, Skip Stewart, an F-22 demonstration and more.

This will be the Blue Angels' second show of the month . Last week, the team performed at the Terre Haute Air Show in Indiana .

The Spirit of St. Louis Air Show and STEM Expo is a two-day, family-focused event at the Spirit of St. Louis Airport. It is not only a cool place to check out gravity-defying aeronautical performances by the Blues and their fellow pilots but also an effort to support and promote science, technology, engineering and math.

When is the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show 2024?

The Blue Angels will headline the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show in Missouri on June 8-9.

When will the Blue Angels fly at the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show?

There is no set schedule for the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show due to the potential for last minute adjustments to the schedule based on weather, security protocols and other reasons.

The Blue Angels typically fly around 2 p.m., and each performance is about an hour long. Gates at the St. Louis air show open at 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Opening ceremonies will start at 11:30 a.m., with the air show immediately following.

General admission tickets for the Spirit of St. Louis Air Show are $55 per person, and tickets are only available online. Flight Line Club and Club Bravo Chalet tickets are already sold out for both days. Active duty military receive free general admission.

Parking is free for ticket holders, and there are parking spots available up to a mile away from the entrance. The show does not offer a shuttle service, so arriving early is paramount to getting a good parking spot.

Here’s what you can’t bring into the air show:

• No alcoholic beverages
• No bicycles
• No weapons of any kind (including concealed carry permit holders)
• Nothing that resembles a weapon of any kind
• No flammable items or fireworks
• No skateboards, hoverboards or Segways
• No scooters (except for physically challenged persons)
• No in-line skates
• No outside food or drinks* - Each guest will be allowed to bring in ONE sealed bottle of water under a liter in size.

These teams battle for the 2nd week in a row for the right to play the 2-time defending champion Birmingham Stallions in the UFL Championship Game in St. Louis June 16. Birmingham advanced with an 31-18 victory over the Michigan Panthers Saturday in the USFL Conference Championship.

The Brahmas lost a wild one 13-12 last week after the Battlehawks used their super challenge to bring back what was believed to be the go-ahead 2-point conversion. It was overturned due to an illegal man downfield. They had another shot to win it and missed a field goal. Even more devastating was that QB Chase Garbers (wrist) reinjured his left wrist late in the 1st half and didn’t return. QB Quinten Dormady led the team back from 10-0 to put them in position to win it. He was electric with 188 yards on 15-for-27 passing and a touchdown. Garbers is listed as questionable, but after Dormady performed so well, you would think it’s his game.

QB AJ McCarron returned from a high-ankle sprain last week and was definitely rusty and not 100 percent. He went 10-for-24 for 115 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT, and his mobility in the pocket was limited. He was sacked 3 times. The team called 3 straight running plays on their first drive, which went nowhere and told you everything you needed to know about McCarron’s outlook. He was slinging it later in the game and even took off running a few times, taking a hit on the injured ankle out of bounds but got back up. RB Jacob Saylors rushed 12 times for 50 yards, and RB Wayne Gallman ran 6 times for 41 yards. The Battlehawks have not been beaten at home.

After closing at -160 last week, the Battlehawks are even heavier favorites in this XFL Conference Championship game. St. Louis ran a really passive offensive game plan last week, and that could have been partly because of McCarron’s limitations and by design.

I look for Battlehawks coach Anthony Becht and offensive coordinator Bruce Gradkowski to pull out all of their tricks. The Battlehawks have the best stable of receivers in the league. At -165, though, I’d rather go to the spread.

Against the spread

St. Louis is 1-1 ATS against the Brahmas this season. The Battlehawks prevailed as 1-point favorites 31-24 in Week 3 but were unable to cover as 2.5-point faves last week. Dormady was impressive last week, but he has been pretty meh overall. With a full week to gameplan for him, I’ll take the BATTLEHAWKS -3 ( -115 ).

The Under cashed and then some with the lowly 13-12 output last week. I expect bigger things this week, but the total has risen to 44. While that is certainly plausible, it’s too high of a number for me.
