Formed in 2004, MGMT are a psychedelic rock group from Connecticut, US, formed around the core duo of Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden. Their first release was the 2005 E.P “Climbing to New Lows” and they’ve released three studio albums since then.

Anyone who remembers the summer of 2008 will have their memories colonized by this band whether they realize it or not. The first MGMT album, “Oracular Spectacular” and especially the two smash hit singles “Kids” and “Time to Pretend” seemed to be the background radiation of everyone’s life and it made an absolutely dismal washout of a season feel like San Francisco in 1967 everywhere you went, even when it was bucketing down relentlessly, which it often did.

That’s just the effect that this band has even to this day, and that stems from the bands attitude as much as it does the music, hitching a stringent adherence to not giving a damn about what anyone else thinks to gorgeously catchy melodies and floaty psychedelia.

I’m not kidding about the not giving a damn part, the band were never about getting famous. What bunch of fame hungry chancers would do as Goldwasser and VanWyngarden did and perform their first gigs dressed as snowmen playing 45 minute versions of the theme from Ghostbusters?

Those shows were played explicitly to annoy their fellow students at the Wesleyan University in Connecticut where they formed, however after Goldwasser and VanWyngarden realized that they had legitimate musical chemistry they developed their brand of psychedelic pop and signed to Columbia Records in 2006. Since their debut the band have shied away from releasing the radio friendly singles that made their name and have released two albums of uncompromising, yet dizzyingly good psychedelic rock as a result and they’re only getting better from here on out.

PSA ANNOUNCEMENT: Their later cds, Congratulations and MGMT, are growers! Listen to them multiple times, in tracklist order, through headphones, in the dark! You won't regret it!

MGMT live is... for lack of better, more descriptive words... chill. The music is still spacey, avant-garde, and deliciously faux-retro. Just don't expect crazy stage shenanigans or wacky stage banter anymore (ok, it does get a bit weird sometimes).

Instead, keep an ear out for when they extend and embellished your favorite tracks. Pure audiogasm. My favorite bits are always when the music takes over, and James starts in on the glorious shredding. Ben, holed up in his electronic fortress, will always add this sort of cosmic texture to performances. All this will be topped off by Andrew distinctive singing. (I like to say he has a buttered baby bunny voice. No, I have no idea what the hell that really means either :) )

If you ever decide to see these guys, keep a couple of things in mind. 1) Kids and Time to Pretend sightings are incredibly rare these days. They have too much offer now! 2) Of Moons, Birds & Monsters and The Handshake live often evolve into this gorgeous rock-outs that make me wish it were on the cd. 3) Ladies, Andrew's gotten really good at not making eye contact. Time for us to give up :( 4) Best seats in the house? In front of James for showmanship, in front of Ben for techies.

If you're fortunate enough, the guys come out later to say hi to fans. They're all sweet as pie (except Matt, he's more like a rhubarb crumble, ha), I highly recommend it!! Hang out by any side door of the venue for a couple of hours.

Gooo. Go to see them. It won't be a "psychedelic rave" like people came to expect after so long. It'll be so much better.

Opener (Matthew Dear) was okay, played for about 30 minutes from 8:15 - 8:45, MGMT came on about 45 minutes after he ended. MGMT played for about 70 minutes, songs and venue quality were good (played Electric Feel & Kids), but it simply felt short. It ended by 10:45 on a Saturday night, definitely expected them to play at least until 11, 11:15.

OMG!!! MGMT were awesome! I’m so glad I went to see them!!! Wow guys, that was the most magical show I’ve ever been to. Thank you so much. Everyone who is intreastes in going to see MGMT but have a doubt about it, PLEASE JUST GO!!!! You’ll be amazed by them I promise. xx

One the better shows I’ve been to in my life! They had absolutely amazing visuals and a very clean sound. I also enjoyed the vibes they put off and getting the crowd involved with the songs. MGMT is one of my favorite bands and my expectations were exceeded with their show.

Was awesome. The setlist was on point cause it literally had MGMT music for everyone. Visuals we fucking badass. Hated waiting forever door open at 6:30 and says on ticket show starts at 8 wtf. lol they came on at like 9:30 but it was well worth the wait.

Cancelled due to rain in Houston *cries* I was looking forward to this so much but alas!I hope they return again. Also because I need 30 words: Oracular Spectacular is still my favorite album of theirs but Little Dark Age is pretty good if hit or miss.

Brilliant MGMT show in Oslo friday night. The new songs suonded great live. The live set was visually beautiful, especielally during Little Dark Age.

amazing atmosphere, amazing songs, they were so full of energy and synchrony. one of the bests concerts i’ve ever been! i’m looking forward to see them again. a memorable night that i’m sure i won’t forget.

It's great. But the band showed up late, which was not really good. But the atmosphere in general are really good. That's all I want to say. And this sentence is just for holding the place to more than 30 words

MGMT to Perform Live for the First Time in 4 Years at Just Like Heaven Fest 2023

The duo is also hard at work on a “fancy new album.”.

MGMT , the indie rock duo made up of singers Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, will be performing live for the first time in nearly four years. The band is slated to take the stage at the annual Just Like Heaven Fest, held at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California on May 13.

At the one-day event, MGMT will not only be making their long-awaited return but will also be delivering the first live performance of their debut album Oracular Spectacular in full for the first time.

iMGMT is an American indie rock band formed in 2002 in Middletown, Connecticut by Andrew VanWyngarden and Benjamin Goldwasser . MGMT's live lineup features drummer Will Berman, bassist Simon O'Connor, and guitarist and keyboard James Richardson. MGMT later signed with Columbia in 2006 and released their debut album Oracular Spectacular the next year. After the release of the debut, Richardson, Berman and Matthew Asti joined the core band in the studio for Congratulations , which was released on April 13, 2010. in February 2010 the band wrote worked recorded their 3rd album Untill March 2013 In 2011, they started to work on their self-titled album . It was released on September 17, 2013. The group's fourth studio album, Little Dark Age , was released in February 2018 and marked the end of their contract with Columbia. In late 2019, the band released a new song called "In The Afternoon" as their first fully self-produced single. Formation (2002-2005) [ ]

the band first met In February 2002 Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden formed MGMT while attending Wesleyan University during their freshman year. "We weren't trying to start a band," remarked Goldwasser. "We were just hanging out and showing each other music that we liked." They experimented with noise rock and electronica before settling on what Paco Alvarez of Spin calls "their current brand of shape-shifting psychedelic pop." The band formed under the name The Management and released two demo albums, We (Don't) Care and Climbing to New Lows , under that name. but since the name was already being used by another band, they later changed it to MGMT, a disemvowelment of the original band name. VanWyngarden and Goldwasser graduated in 2005 and toured extensively in support of the Time to Pretend EP released in the same year, opening for indie pop band, Of Montreal .

Oracular Spectacular (2005 – 2009) [ ]

In 2006, Maureen Kenny signed the band to Columbia Records. When the band received a call from the A&R department of Columbia Records saying they were interested in their music, they thought it was a joke. The duo recorded with Flaming Lips/Sleater-Kinney music producer Dave Fridmann in 2007 for their major label debut, Oracular Spectacular . They performed for the first time in Europe, supporting the band Samantha and The Courteeners at Koko in London, England. After March 2008, Hank Sullivant left the band to pursue his own band, Kuroma . Will Berman joined as the new drummer, James Richardson switched from drums to guitar, and Matthew Asti remained on bass. In 2005 the band released the first EP

In June 2008, the band supported Radiohead on the Manchester date of their world tour and went on a headline tour of the UK during November 2008, playing at venues such as Manchester Academy and Shepherd's Bush Empire. MGMT opened for M.I.A. on the Vassar College date of her 2008 tour, and also played several shows with Beck during his 2008 tour. They also toured Australia with a headlining spot on the Meredith Music Festival line-up. The group played a show at the Virgin Music Festival on the Toronto Islands on September 6, 2008, playing nine songs. They also played the 2008 Street Scene festival in San Diego, California. On February 27, 2009, MGMT performed alongside Spectrum at The Dome in Finsbury Park. MGMT also played another show in Australia at the 2009 Splendour in the Grass Festival. They headlined this music festival along with other well known bands such as Bloc Party, The Flaming Lips, Happy Mondays, and Jane's Addiction. MGMT opened for Paul McCartney, an admitted fan, at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts, on August 5 and 6, 2009. On August 15, 2009, MGMT played in Hamburg, Germany, at the Dockville Festival and performed several songs from their upcoming album, Congratulations . Congratulations was released on April 13, 2010. The band, including Matthew Asti, James Richardson, and Will Berman from the live band, spent the summer of 2009 in Malibu, California, recording the album with Pete Kember (a.k.a. Sonic Boom), serving as producer/guru, and long-time friend Billy Bennett as engineer. MGMT originally suggested that they might not release any singles from the album. By July 2010, however, four single releases from the album had been confirmed. The album cover art was created by Anthony Ausgang . On March 9, 2010, MGMT released the song " Flash Delirium " for free download on their official website.

MGMT started their Congratulations Tour on April 12, 2010, in San Francisco, California, at The Fillmore. They performed on Saturday Night Live on April 24, 2010, and on the Late Show with David Letterman on May 12 to promote their new album, and on June 11, MGMT played their largest headlining show anywhere in the world with a sold-out, MGMT performed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and on July 23, they were the musical guests on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

On August 25, MGMT released a music video for " Congratulations ", the third video of their second album. On October 31, 2010, the band performed for the Voodoo Experience in New Orleans, Louisiana. The band decided to dress as the main characters from Scooby-Doo for Halloween; Andrew dressed up as Daphne and Ben dressed up as Velma. They headlined at Fun Fun Fun Fest which was held at Waterloo Park in Austin, Texas on November 6, 2010. The performance was the last show in the US for MGMT in 2010. Their first 2011 gig was at Mar del Plata, Argentina, in front of a crowd of more than 40,000 on the beach in a free event which they headlined. MGMT began their first Asian tour on February 22, 2011. On September 22, 2011 MGMT performed the Pink Floyd song "Lucifer Sam" during Late Night with Jimmy Fallon's "Pink Floyd Week". On February 27, 2012, MGMT began recording the album with Dave Fridmann at his Tarbox Road Studios. In March 2012, VanWyngarden said that MGMT will perform new songs on their upcoming shows in Latin America. On March 30, 2012, the band premiered a new song, entitled " Alien Days ", at a show in Bogotá, Colombia. The band performed on August 3, 2012 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada at Osheaga. In January 2013, NME and Rolling Stone published an interview in which the band announced that the album was tentatively scheduled for a June 2013 release. As of March 2013, the process of recording the album at Tarbox Road Studios with Fridmann was near completion. On April 20, 2013, the band released the studio version of "Alien Days". The band then embarked on a spring tour, followed by fall/autumn and winter tour dates for North America. Following VanWyngarden's shoulder surgery in mid-2013, former touring member Hank Sullivant rejoined the band to play live guitar for the remainder of 2013. The self-titled album was released September 17, 2013. An exclusive early release of the album, along with a full-length music video called " Optimizer ", was available from the Rdio music service on September 9, 2013. In June 2013, the band performed at the FireFly Music Festival in Dover, Delaware. They performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2014 before embarking on a European tour later in June 2014 and performing at the Glastonbury Festival in England. In July 2014, they were nominated for a VMA in the category "Best Editing" for their music video " Your Life is a Lie ". After wrapping up touring behind their self-titled album September 26 2014 the band concert in Brazil for the band for their 3rd in old computers in 2006 - 2015 , Goldwasser relocated to LA. In an interview at Falls Festival Marion Bay in 2014, the band announced that they would take a short break and come back stronger with a new sound. the band finished the MGMT Tour ended date tour In November 2014 the band was eyeing that Glee was ending atfer 6 season In March 2015 the band was meeting glee for the final time In January 2015

Little Dark Age ( April 2015–2019) [ ]

On february 15 2015 the band announced for a follow up album for the band wrote a few songa in february 2015Will Berman stated in an interview with HitFix in April 2015 that "We've been taking a little break I guess. We've been at it for years at this point. There's more to come." He didn't want to speak for either Ben or On December 20 2015 the band was having a first concert back in Hawaii for the band 1 yeat after they ended their 3rd Tour the band relased millons of new songs at Hawaii Concert In December 2015 Andrew on when there would be a new album from the group. On December 26, 2015, the band tweeted announcing that they would return in 2016. The band began working on an untitled new album in October 2016. On May 8, 2017, the band released a teaser video on Instagram alongside the title of the forthcoming album as Little Dark Age , following a series of cryptic tweets the week prior. The band performed On February 13 2019 in Hawaii at the talk show hosts campaign event for the band campaign event On June 21, the band revealed that their next album had been mastered. On October 17, the band released " Little Dark Age ", the title track from their new album and their first single in four years. " When You Die " was released as the second single on December 12, 2017. The third single from the record, " Hand It Over ", was released on January 5, 2018. MGMT admitted that their two previous albums were so poorly received that they thought they could never have reached peak popularity as they had with the release of their first album. Since their separation, the two core members began working long distances on the album via e-mail. Little Dark Age was in part shaped by this unique, distanced relationship between the two musicians, who later decided to meet and jointly work together again. The band has explained that Little Dark Age is both an expression of surprise and dismay to the current political and social climate—particularly the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States—with an occasional reference to their personal lives. Of the election, VanWyngarden stated, "We were like, 'Wow, is it actually possible for the most impossible thing to happen?' [...] Apparently, we were more inspired to write pop music after evil took over the world." Touring guitarist James Richardson also provided inspiration, which resulted in the song ' James ' being dedicated to celebrating the band's friendship. The album was released on February 9, 2018, and followed with a North American tour, part of the Little Dark Age Tour. Going independent (2019–present) [ ]

On November 22, 2019, the band performed a new song titled " In The Afternoon " in Las Vegas, Nevada. On December 10, a teaser for the studio version of the song was posted on the band's Instagram page. On December 11, "In The Afternoon" was officially released as a single alongside a music video created by the band. They have collaborated with rapper Kid Cudi , and are featured on the single " Pursuit of Happiness " from his album Man on the Moon: The End of Day . For the 2010 MTV VMA's Kid Cudi was nominated for Best Hip-Hop video for "Pursuit of Happiness". They also collaborated on the track " Worm Mountain " on The Flaming Lips' Embryonic .

Heart has canceled its European tour so that singer Ann Wilson can focus on recovering from a “time-sensitive but routine medical procedure.”

In a post shared to social media, the band noted that the procedure, set for late May, has a “minimum recovery time” of six weeks. The tour was set to run through this summer, with a launch date of June 20. They continue, “Heart deeply regrets this unfortunate circumstance and hopes to return to Europe soon. Refunds will be available at point of purchase where applicable.”

According to member Nancy Wilson, Heart is working on new music as part of their most active comeback in recent years. The “Royal Flush” tour is also Heart’s first lengthy trek since 2019.

“The exceptional talent of the band brings a whole new level of energy to Heart’s live performance,” Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson said in a joint statement at the time of the tour’s start. “I am incredibly proud of the show that our band has crafted and am looking forward to reconnecting with our fans.”

Amazon MGM Studios has handed an official pilot order to Band , a drama created and executive produced by Daniel Barnz who will direct the pilot and serve as showrunner on the potential series. The project had had a blinking green light for weeks while assembling its cast. The actors have now been set, including John Benjamin Hickey and Miguel Angel Garcia who star alongside Lynley Eilers , Alex Fitzalan , Henry Hunter Hall and Chanté Adams .

Daniel Barnz and Ben Barnz executive produce under the duo’s We’re Not Brothers banner, which has an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. David Stone of TFC Productions also executive produces.

He has a history at Amazon as well with his role on The Wilds and also appeared on Netflix’s The Society . He is repped by UTA, Mosaic, CBM Management and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Hickey recently directed Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite , starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick in London’s West End, following a Broadway run. Hickey played Henry Wilcox in the play The Inheritance on Broadway and in the West End, for which he won an Outer Critics Circle Award and was nominated for a Tony Award. Recent films include Salem’s Lot for New Line. He is repped by CAA and MGMT Entertainment.

Adams most recently appeared in David. E. Kelly’s Netflix limited series A Man In Full, directed by Regina King. At Amazon, she played a lead in A League Of Their Own and also performed on Broadway in Dominique Morisseau’s Skeleton Crew . She is repped by Linden Entertainment, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
