'MasterChef' winner to headline culinary cruise

From left, "MasterChef" judge Joe Bastianich, winner Courtney Lapresi, host Gordon Ramsey and judge Graham Elliot.

The newly-minted Season 5 winner of the Fox reality cooking show MasterChef will headline a culinary cruise on Holland America Line's Westerdam Nov. 8 - 15.

Courtney Lapresi weathered dozens of competitors and show host Gordon Ramsey's acid tongue to take the title, which earned her a cookbook publishing deal and $250,000.

On the cruise, Laparesi will hold panels and cooking sessions, mingle with guests at cocktail receptions and take part in a mystery box challenge, one of the show's cooking tests.

One of the panels will show amateurs "tricks of the trade" used in pro kitchens, while another focuses on "finishing touches" to make dishes extra appealing or tasty.

In between meals, the 1,848-passenger Westerdam will pursue an Eastern Caribbean itinerary that includes stops in Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas and Holland America's private island at Half Moon Cay.

The sailing is Holland America's first MasterChef cruise.

Gordon Ramsay’s “MasterChef” debuted July 27, 2010 on Fox following an episode of spiritual cousin series “Hell’s Kitchen.” While the latter reality TV show features professionals, “MasterChef” is open to amateurs who have mostly only cooked at home. Each season the judges are tasked with cutting down the number of chef-testants until only one remains. The winner takes home a cash prize of $250,000 and the coveted trophy, plus some champs have even received cookbook deals. Scroll through our photo gallery below to see the “MasterChef” winners list for all seasons.

Throughout the years, several co-judges have stood beside Chef Ramsay on the competition series, including Graham Elliot, Joe Bastianich, Christina Tosi and Aaron Sanchez. Scheduling note: the program aired once a year beginning in 2010, but the 11th season was temporarily delayed in 2020 due to Covid-19; it finally aired in 2021.

'MasterChef' Jumps on TV Cruise Trend

Gordon Ramsay 's MasterChef  will cook up a sixth season, while MasterChef Junior a lso will return.

Ahoy, foodies. MasterChef is setting sail for its first cruise.

Fox’s dominant cooking competition is the latest series to test the waters with a fan event of this kind, setting the dates of the first voyage for Nov. 8-15. MasterChef personalities already on board include judge Graham Elliot , winners Christine Ha and Luca Manfe and MasterChef Junior winner Alexander Weiss .

The news comes as Fox continues to beef up its investment in the Gordon Ramsay franchise, recently giving an early order for spinoff MasterChef Junior’s third season.

“We are always looking for new and exciting ways to engage MasterChef fans with the brand and connect them with their favorite talent,” said president Shine 360° Vivi Zigler , of producers Shine America. “The MasterChef Cruise gives fans an incredibly unique opportunity to have an immersive experience with one of the best chefs in the world, Graham Elliot, and some of the most talented and beloved winners of the MasterChef franchise, Christine, Luca and Alexander, while traveling through one of the most beautiful parts of the world.”

Recent series to get into cruising include Top Chef , the cast of Duck Dynasty (under the Duck Commander brand) and Dancing With the Stars . The latter was also done on Holland America, the partner for the trip under event producers Life Journeys Inc.

“We are thrilled to be producing the first-ever official MasterChef culinary cruise and partnering with Shine America for this exciting event where fans get the chance to hone their cooking skills alongside incredible talent from the show,” said Life Journeys vp and producer Ibis Kaba . “Our ultimate goal is to inspire home cooks to become MasterChefs in their own right.”

Departing from Ft. Lauderdale and hitting Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Bahamas, the MasterChef cruise will announce more talent in the lead-up to the event.

MasterChef Winners: Where Are They Now?

" MasterChef " is a launchpad for aspiring culinary talents looking to make a splash in the highly competitive food industry. The show has become a premier platform for amateur cooks to prove their skills and gain both mentorship and exposure. With seasoned chefs and restaurateurs like Gordon Ramsay and Joe Bastianich as judges, winning "MasterChef" is a significant accomplishment, complete with cash prizes and often a cookbook deal, but what happens after that final, celebratory confetti gets swept away?

The burning question then becomes: How successful are these chefs after they snag that coveted trophy? The reality is both inspiring and sobering. Some have gone on to open restaurants and become public figures. Yet, the path post-"MasterChef" varies greatly for each winner, and not all stories are successful. The food industry is notoriously tough, demanding not just culinary creativity but also keen business acumen and ongoing passion.

So, where exactly do these "MasterChef" champions end up? This article aims to peel back the curtain on the winners' post-"MasterChef" careers. While the competition offers a robust stepping stone, the subsequent choices these chefs make often determine their true success. Whether they become restaurateurs, cookbook authors, TV personalities, or leave the culinary world altogether, their post-show careers are a fascinating testament to the power and limitations of winning a competiion like "MasterChef."

Season 1: Whitney Miller

Whitney Miller is a shining example of how to turn a "MasterChef" victory into a full-blown culinary career. She returned to "MasterChef" for Season 2, Episode 9 and has sporadically appeared on other television shows. In 2016, she was a guest on Season 1, Episode 79 of "FabLife," which focused on all things Southern and etiquette. She also guested on Season 1, Episode 5 of "Live + Local" in 2022.

In addition to her TV career, Whitney is now an accomplished author of two cookbooks, "Modern Hospitality: Simple Recipes with Southern Charm" published in 2011, and "Whitney Miller's New Southern Table: My Favorite Family Recipes with a Modern Twist" published in 2015.

Whitney has also successfully ventured into entrepreneurship with her business, Whitney's Cookies, which launched in 2019. The online shop has an impressive variety of home-baked cookies that ship fresh weekly or can be picked up in Franklin or Thompson's Station, Tennessee. Whitney's Cookies is set to open a storefront in Franklin on September 30th, bringing her culinary creations to an even broader audience and adding another layer of success to her already impressive resume. She paved the way for future winners to find their own success after claiming the trophy.

Season 2: Jennifer Behm-Lazzarini

Jennifer Behm-Lazzarini, the "MasterChef" Season 2 winner, has also taken an exciting and diverse post-win path. In 2011 she launched her catering company, Pink Martini Catering. The following year, she competed in "Chris Hardwick's All-Star Celebrity Bowling" special. In 2015, she moved from Delaware to Rhode Island to open a restaurant, Red Fin Crudo + Kitchen with her husband, Julio Lazzarini. She gave a powerful TEDx talk in 2018, " Even Beauty Queens Get Dumped ," about resilience and getting back up after challenging times, a principle that no doubt steered the "MasterChef" winner in the right direction during the pandemic — in 2020, Red Fin Crudo shut down.

She's also had a lively career beyond Season 2 of "MasterChef" in the culinary competition space, appearing on episodes of "Cutthroat Kitchen" and "The Great Food Truck Race" as competitor and judge respectively. In 2021, Jennifer clinched another victory in her chef's hat, competing on an episode of "Beat Bobby Flay" against her husband and ultimately beating Bobby at his own game — which is no mean feat.

Season 3: Christine Ha

Christine Ha 's story is one of not just culinary excellence, but also of breaking barriers and expanding into diverse avenues. As the first blind contestant to win "MasterChef" U.S., Christine immediately set herself apart, and she's made the most of her opportunities since taking home the trophy. Her 2013 New York Times bestselling cookbook, "Recipes from My Home Kitchen: Asian and American Comfort Food" fused culinary traditions by sharing her unique blend of Asian and American comfort food recipes. The next year, Christine won the American Foundation for the Blind's Helen Keller Personal Achievement Award, a testament to her influence beyond the culinary realm as an influential voice for the blind community.

Her talents extend beyond the kitchen, though, to television hosting and judging. Christine co-hosted four seasons of the Canadian TV show "Four Senses" with Carl Heinrich, another competitive cooking show winner from "Top Chef Canada." The show ran on AMI, Canada's network for content dedicated to a visually impaired audience. She also returned to her "MasterChef" roots in Season 12, Episode 11 as a guest in the winners' mystery box season and joined the judging panel for "MasterChef Vietnam."

Her business ventures have been just as impressive. Christine owns two restaurants: The Blind Goat and Xin Chao, both in Houston. This groundbreaking "MasterChef" winner has gone on to become one of the most successful winners of the franchise.

Season 4: Luca Manfè

Luca Manfè, the Season 4 "MasterChef" U.S. winner, has taken his love for Italian cuisine far beyond the show. He authored a cookbook published in 2014 called "My Italian Kitchen: Favorite Family Recipes from the Winner of MasterChef Season 4 on FOX," which not only shares his family recipes but also helps solidify his authority as an expert in Italian cuisine. If you're not a reader, you can catch him in action through his online cooking classes, where he brings his kitchen expertise directly to your screen, or you can hire him as your personal events caterer.

But Luca doesn't just want you to cook Italian; he wants you to experience Italy through its many flavors and regions. That's why he periodically offers culinary tours of Italy, an immersive experience that's hard to beat. Additionally, show fans might have caught a glimpse of him in single episodes in Season 5, Season 6, and Season 7 of "MasterChef," making guest appearances to help promote his cookbook. He also appeared as part of the star-studded lineup for the "Masterchef" cruise, where he taught the ship's guests how to make homemade pasta. Not all of Manfè's endeavors have been successful, though. He started a food truck called The Lucky Fig that shut down as the food he served was too high-end for a food truck.

Season 5: Courtney Lapresi

Courtney Lapresi, another memorable "MasterChef" U.S. winner, has a somewhat different post-show trajectory, highlighting the flexibility a "MasterChef" win can afford. Her cookbook, "Everyday Fancy: 65 Easy, Elegant Recipes for Meals, Snacks, Sweets, and Drinks from the Winner of MasterChef Season 5 on FOX" was published in 2015 and she was invited back to Season 6, Episode 17 of "MasterChef" along with other champions. This return appearance allowed her to not only plug her book but also reconnect with the show's vast audience.

After her win, she worked in a professional kitchen, where she met her husband. However, Courtney's path eventually diverged from culinary entrepreneurship. By 2017, she posted that she was working at Tesla on X, formerly known as Twitter . This switch to a completely different industry might not shock "MasterChef" fans as Courtney was a controversial contestant — she marched to the beat of her own drum on her season.

Courtney hasn't abandoned her love for cooking, though. If you're following her on Instagram , you'll see that she continues to share her culinary creations alongside her passion for pole dance and somatic work. It's a great way for her to keep her foot in the culinary world while exploring other career options and advocating for the topics she's passionate about.

Season 6: Claudia Sandoval

Claudia Sandoval ,  "MasterChef" U.S. Season 6 winner, has parlayed her win into a multifaceted career. She transitioned from contestant to judge, serving on panels for "MasterChef Latino," "Food Network Challenge" and "Easter Basket Challenge," marking her as an authority in the culinary realm. Claudia also added hosting to her TV portfolio with her own show, "Taste of the Border" which visits border town restaurants. This move isn't just an extension of her career — it's a whole new platform that lets her share her culinary flair, fiery red hair, and passion for food with a wide audience.

Claudia also penned her own cookbook, "Claudia's Cocina: A Taste of Mexico," which featured traditional Mexican recipes alongside ones that added a modern twist to Mexican classics and of course, some of the dishes she made for "MaserChef." She also owns her own catering company, Claudia's Cocina, which creates culinary pop-ups and experiential events. Claudia's journey exemplifies the varied opportunities a "MasterChef" win can provide, from judging to TV hosting and publishing.

Season 7: Shaun O'Neale

Shaun O'Neale, the winner of "MasterChef" Season 7, has worked hard since his victory. He penned the cookbook "My Modern American Table: Recipes for Inspired Home Cooks," released in 2017, in which he shares his modern take on classic American dishes.

The former DJ has also ventured further into the television world, appearing on various cooking shows. He made surprise appearances on three additional seasons of "MasterChef", as well as "Home and Family" and Best in Food. He also starred in a Morningstar Farms commercial. He's been busy traveling the world to go to culinary pop-ups, expos, and events, been a chef on the "MasterChef" cruise, and worked with brands like Macy's, Disney, and Craftsy on demos and cooking classes.

O'Neale also worked with MLB and NHL franchises to create upscale menus for their luxury suites, and up next, Shaun is preparing to take the helm as the executive chef for the upcoming 333 restaurant in Scottsdale, a role that was recently announced on the restaurant's Instagram . The self-taught chef has taken the opportunities afforded by the trophy and turned them into culinary gold.

Season 8: Dino Angelo Luciano

Dino Angelo Luciano, the victor of "Masterchef" Season 8, is a true Renaissance man. On the professional kitchen front, he's worked as a private chef and held executive chef positions at Stella Resto in Toronto and Muse and Market in Arizona. He also collaborates with Sarah Tee on a YouTube channel and posts cooking videos and fun challenges.

Expanding his culinary reach, Dino also collaborated with The Farsides, a Montreal restaurant specializing in Thai and Hawaiian cuisine. He applied his talents in the kitchen to crafting the vegan menu for the trendy restaurant, giving it a unique and notable edge in the crowded Montreal culinary landscape. The restaurant was awarded the honor of Thai Restaurant of the Year in 2022 at the Travel and Hospitality Awards.

But Dino's talents extend beyond the kitchen, as he's also ventured into the entertainment world. According to his IMDb page , the chef has a role in an upcoming short film, "Tomorrow Will Be Better" as a Soothsayer. He's also a recording artist under the name Human Rabbit. He's clearly set on thriving no matter the avenue and enjoys variety in the opportunities he pursues.

Season 9: Gerron Hurt

Gerron Hurt, winner of "MasterChef" Season 9, has embarked on a varied and fulfilling journey since his time on the show. He ran his own indoor food truck called Southern Ego, where he showcased his take on comfort food. Owning a food truck is a great entrepreneurial endeavor that undoubtedly allowed Gerron to interact with fans, but the truck has unfortunately closed down.

In a bit of a career switch, Gerron recently started a role as an Assistant School Principal at Riverdale High School. While this may seem like a far cry from the culinary world, the position reflects his commitment to education and community, and it's an interesting pivot that diversifies his skill set. He still continues to share his love for food on his Instagram feed and owns Family on a Plate LLC., which helps families come together with cooking via a variety of services like dinner parties and private events, cooking classes, food expos, and speaking engagements.

Adding a unique and personal touch to his "MasterChef" legacy, Gerron returned to the show for a special episode in Season 10. During this appearance, Gordon Ramsay himself officiated Gerron's marriage as the two teams created food for his wedding guests, making for an unforgettable and emotional moment that tied his personal and culinary lives together.

Season 10: Dorian Hunter

Dorian Hunter , who clinched the title of "MasterChef" in Season 10, has been leveraging her culinary prowess in various ways. She is at work on her first cookbook, although a release date has not been publicly announced. She provides chef services specifically tailored for weddings and corporate events and has partnered with Nymble on recipes. It's unclear if her plan to work in the restaurants of the three celebrity judge s on "MasterChef" materialized into work in their kitchens, but she seems to have found her own culinary journey nonetheless.

In addition to her event-based work, Dorian founded the Cultural Epicurean Network in 2020. Through it, she hosts cooking classes online for amateur cooks, and she's expanded her competitive streak by participating in "The Great Soul Food Cookoff." This not only provided her with another platform to exhibit her culinary skills but also allowed her to share more of her love for soul food with the world.

Both these ventures demonstrate Dorian's adaptability and her ability to thrive in diverse culinary environments. Whether creating memorable meals for special occasions or competing in different arenas, she continues to make her mark in the food world.

Season 11: Kelsey Murphy

Kelsey Murphy , the "MasterChef" Season 11 champ, has been making savvy moves to build her culinary brand. One of her high-profile gigs was setting up a food popup at the Indy 500. This platform offered her a unique opportunity to share her culinary talents with a premiere racing event's audience.

But Kelsey isn't just limiting herself to special events. She's also a regular face on local FOX and CBS morning shows, where she has her own cooking segments. On top of that, she partnered with GrubHub to bring her "MasterChef"-inspired dishes to people across the country, offering a convenient way for fans to experience her cuisine. Like many alumni of "MasterChef", she's appeared in a subsequent season, guest judging in Season 13, Episode 14.

Kelsey also co-hosts the podcast The Real Eats with Pete Ferriero, a space where she can have more in-depth conversations about food and "MasterChef." This multi-platform approach helps her engage with fans on different levels, from quick morning segments to longer podcast discussions.

Season 12: Dara Yu

Dara Yu is a unique talent in the "MasterChef" world. After initially coming in as the runner-up in the first season of "MasterChef" Junior, she returned to win Season 12 of the adult version of the show. Since her win, Dara has been deeply embedded in the culinary scene, with her most recent endeavor being a pop-up event focused on congee, a traditional Chinese rice porridge. This pop-up, Congee & Crullers, was a heartfelt tribute to her upbringing, particularly to her grandmother's simple but comforting congee recipes. Hosted at the Curious Palate in Santa Monica, the event featured Dara's innovative twists on both the classic dish and youtiao, the cruller-like strips that traditionally accompany congee.

Dara's commitment to the culinary arts extends to teaching as well. She's a part-time instructor at The Gourmandise School of Sweets & Savories. Prior to her current role, she had experience working at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Los Angeles. Between her teaching gigs, her fresh takes on traditional recipes, and her rich family-centric culinary background, Dara is carving out an eclectic and exciting path for herself in the food world.

What Every MasterChef Winner Is Up To Now

Collage of MasterChef Winners

It's hard to believe it's been 13 years since the first episode of "MasterChef" aired on Fox. With host Gordon Ramsay's acerbic personality, and celebrity judges that have included Christina Tosi, Graham Elliot, Joe Bastianich, and Aaron Sanchez, the show is relished by fans not just for the delicious dishes emerging from the kitchen, but also for the drama between contestants and judges. From harassment scandals to dishes that dramatically flopped, there is always plenty of intrigue on the set, and that often follows the competitors in their travails after the show as fans keep tabs on where their favorite contestants end up.

The American version of "MasterChef" has been the launching pad for many aspiring chefs over the years, many of whom have gone on to write cookbooks, open restaurants, or capitalize on their newfound celebrity by appearing at food festivals, preparing special dishes for Grubhub's MasterChef Kitchen menu , or serving as guests on other cooking shows.

"MasterChef" returns for its 13th season, dubbed "The United Tastes of America," which will divvy contestants up by region of the country, and they'll initially compete as teams to win challenges. Let's check in with the winners of the previous 12 seasons to see if their wins helped propel their culinary dreams.

Season 1: Whitney Miller

Whitney Miller was the very first winner of "MasterChef" in 2010, wowing the judges with a simple-but-flawless Southern meal that included a corn cake topped with collard green pesto and shrimp, perfectly fried chicken, creamed collards, and white chocolate bread pudding soufflé.

In the years since her win , she's penned two cookbooks and offers up her services as a recipe developer, culinary instructor, emcee, and spokesperson, working with companies and organizations like Big Green Egg, Vidalia Onion Committee, and Hampton Inn.

And in 2019, she opened a cookie bakery, Whitney's Cookies, a bakery with a rotating roster of flavors ranging from classic chocolate chip to seasonal flavors like key lime and strawberry shortcake. The cookies ship nationwide or can be picked up locally in her hometown of Franklin, Tennessee, where she lives with her husband and two little boys. She's expecting a third later this year, and a gender reveal video she shared on her Instagram page indicates that the new addition will be a girl.

Season 2: Jennifer Behm

"MasterChef" Season 2 winner, Jennifer Behm (now Jennifer Behm-Lazzarini), took home the trophy and prize money in 2011, but it wasn't her only time being a victor in an on-set kitchen. In 2021, she faced off against her husband, restaurateur Julio Lazzarini, and Bobby Flay on an episode of Food Network's "Beat Bobby Flay" and won with a chicken soup with a Latin influence. Lazzarini, who Behm married a year after her "MasterChef" win, is also a veteran of the food competition scene, having competed on " Chopped ."

In the years since winning , Behm also owned and operated a catering company and has appeared from time to time in guest judge and speaker roles at various events. Behm and her husband also opened a tapas-style restaurant, Red Fin Crudo and Kitchen, which closed in 2020 after a five-year run. Behm is also currently involved in an artisanal cannabis business that's slated to open sometime this year in Rhode Island.

Season 3: Christine Hà

The Season 3 winner of "MasterChef," Christine Hà, who is vision impaired, returned to the set last season as a guest judge , where she put together a mystery-box challenge for the contestants. She's one of the most successful of the "MasterChef" winners, with around 158,000 followers on her Instagram account and a bestselling cookbook, "Recipes from My Home Kitchen: Asian and American Comfort Food," which came as the result of a publishing deal she inked as part of her win.

These days, Hà is likely to be found in the kitchen of one of her two thriving Vietnamese restaurants in Houston, The Blind Goat and Xin Chao, both of which have achieved critical acclaim. For her restaurants, Hà and her partner Tony Nguyen have earned two James Beard nominations: as a semifinalist in 2020 for Best New Restaurant in America for The Blind Goat and as a finalist for Best Chef in Texas in 2022.

This year she and Tony Nguyen — also partnered on Houston's Xin Chào — are semifinalists once again for Outstanding Chef for the James Beard Awards. She also appeared in a recent episode of  Lidia Celebrates America , where she prepares a Vietnamese pork dish and shares how she used cooking as a way to adjust to the loss of her vision.

Season 4: Luca Manfé

The first male winner of "MasterChef," Luca Manfé beat his competitors with a braised beef short rib recipe that he paired with a sunchoke puree and chanterelle mushrooms, a dish he says on his website he's served probably 200 times since then to his catering clients. Fans can recreate another of his winning dishes, basil panna cotta, with the recipe in his cookbook, "My Italian Kitchen: Favorite Family Recipes," which he published as part of his "MasterChef" prize.

While living in Texas, Manfé operated a food truck, The Lucky Fig, serving high-end Italian food, but closed it after a year. Manfé now lives in Pennsylvania and stays busy these days hosting culinary tours (his latest tour is to his hometown of Friuli Venezia-Giulia in Italy this October), teaching live interactive cooking classes online, running a private chef and catering business that's taken him all over the country, and posting mouthwatering cooking videos on his Instagram feed, with occasional guest appearances by his two little boys.

Season 5: Courtney Lapresi

Courtney Lapresi was an exotic dancer and dance instructor before auditioning for and earning a spot on "MasterChef" Season 5 and became a fan favorite on the show, with her strong personality and colorful outfits. Her creative and sophisticated winning meal included crispy pig ear, sumac-dusted duck breast, and a cherry meringue, and her win prompted her to do a victory dance she later recreated for fans on her Instagram page.

Lapresi used the cookbook deal that came with her winnings to publish "Everyday Fancy: 65 Easy, Elegant Recipes for Meals, Snacks, Sweets, and Drinks," and she was the headliner of Holland America's first MasterChef cruise in 2014. Lapresi also worked briefly in a bakery while earning her yoga certification. But Lapresi  eventually left the culinary industry and the celebrity spotlight . Now she's a salesperson for Tesla and posts an odd but endearing mixture of scantily clad selfies, pole-dancing videos, and food photos on her Instagram feed for her adoring fans.

Season 6: Claudia Sandoval

Claudia Sandoval won over the judges in the Season 6 finale of "MasterChef" with a feast that included a huitlacoche truffle tamale, swordfish with Mexican squash, and a dessert featuring hibiscus poached pear, all dishes befitting her Latina roots. After her win, she hasn't left her spot in front of the cameras and is instantly recognizable with her trademark fire-engine-red hair. She served as judge for "MasterChef Latino" and last year she starred in " Taste of the Border," a culinary travel show in which she explored the cuisines of the Mexican-American border regions.

Sandoval's fame has also helped her launch a culinary consulting and catering company, landing gigs with well-known brands like Coca-Cola and Disney, and guest appearances at various food festivals around the world as well as on shows like "Chopped." She wrote and published the book "Claudia's Cocina: a Taste of Mexico" as part of her "MasterChef" award, and she recently announced on her Instagram page a book deal for another cookbook called "Taco Nation," described as a "cross country culinary road trip through the U.S., exploring how each region has reinvented and interpreted tacos."

Season 7: Shaun O'Neale

Longtime Las Vegas DJ Shaun O'Neale traded a turntable for a chef's knife to win Season 7 of "MasterChef ." Immediately after his win, O'Neale penned "My Modern American Table," which includes a recipe for the venison dish that won him the MasterChef title. Since then, the self-taught chef has parlayed his skills to become a consultant, spokesperson, and chef. According to his website, he's done cooking demos for Macy's, been a featured headliner on Holland America Cruises, trained chefs at a luxury resort, and created a five-course menu on behalf of Snickers at the SXSW Music Festival.

In 2021, O'Neale opened an ambitiously designed restaurant, Larrea in Las Vegas, in partnership with mixologist Benjamin Browning, another reality show veteran ("Survivor: Samoa"), but within months, O'Neale and the owners parted ways with little explanation. These days, O'Neale is active on his Instagram page, making cooking videos that skew heavily towards grilling, thanks to his partnership with grilling brand Pit Boss. Late last year he also announced he had taken a position as executive chef and culinary specialist for Sysco Las Vegas.

Season 8: Dino Angelo Luciano

Dino Angelo Luciano has been spreading the gospel of plant-based cuisine since winning "MasterChef" Season 8 in 2017 with a sophisticated (and decidedly un-vegan) meal that included squid ink capellini, rack of lamb, and pistachio tiramisu with espresso caviar.

The quirky former dancer, who certainly made his season of "MasterChef" one of the most entertaining, has had a lot on his plate in the years since his win . He opened the restaurant La Mariachi, a vegan Cal-Mex restaurant in Montreal in 2020, but it closed within a year due to all the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the self-proclaimed "Gourmet Rabbit" offers onsite catering for private events, serving areas of Arizona and Southern California. The vegan-curious can try their hand at making some of Luciano's own creations; he shares his creative vegan recipes on his website, including dishes like Hawaiian BBQ cauliflower, plant-based tocino, and macaroni salad with homemade vegan mayo.

Luciano has also sought the spotlight in other ways than through his cooking — he has recorded songs and produced music videos on his YouTube channel and his IMDB page indicates his involvement in a short film called "Tomorrow Will Be Better."

Season 9: Gerron Hurt

The first Black winner of "MasterChef," Gerron Hurt clinched the "MasterChef" title in Season 9 with a unique take on Nashville hot chicken: a hot quail appetizer served with poached quail eggs and fingerling potato salad, followed by prawns and heirloom grits, and a dessert of Amaretto chess pie topped with popped sorghum.

The following season found Hurt back on the "MasterChef" set — this time to get married, with Gordon Ramsay officiating and the Season 10 contestants splitting into teams to prepare his wedding reception feast of filet mignon and lobster. He also made a surprise appearance in last year's all-star season to issue a mystery box challenge to the contestants.

Prior to his stint on "MasterChef," Hurt was a teacher, but he's left the profession to focus on a culinary career . He has a mission to bring families together through food with his Family on a Plate business, through which he offers his services for private dining experiences, cooking classes, summer camps, guest appearances, and consulting. He also tried his luck at operating a food truck in Iowa, Southern Ego, in late 2019, but it is permanently closed, according to the Yelp listing. Per his Instagram feed, Hurt has something else that keeps him busy: two adorable little ones.

Season 10: Dorian Hunter

When she won "MasterChef" Season 10, Dorian Hunter was not only the first Black female winner but also, at 45, was the oldest contestant. The menu that won her the trophy and prize money included seared sea scallops on sweet corn puree and pickled chard, garnished with a cornmeal tuille, smoked short rib with potato and horseradish gratin, and, for dessert, a lemon cream cheese blueberry tart with meringue.

Her win has propelled her to culinary success since the season finale in 2019. In 2021, she returned to the cooking competition circuit as one of the eight contestants in "The Great Soul Food Cook-Off," making it to the final three.   These days, from her home in Georgia, this culinary school graduate provides culinary services with a specialty in "elevated Southern food," according to her website. Through her site, Hunter offers catering for weddings, parties, and corporate events. She also hosts online cooking classes and sells goodies online, including a mouthwatering Southern lemon pound cake.

And if all that doesn't keep her busy enough, Hunter is also working on her cookbook and running a global platform for women in the culinary and wellness industry to provide food and drink content, the Cultural Epicurean Network. And judging from her Instagram feed, she appears to be involved with Traeger Grills as a spokesperson, posting videos of photos of her cooking on the grills and even challenging other cooks to Burger Bash, an extreme burger grilling competition performed on Traeger grills.

Season 11: Kelsey Murphy

With a seven-month pause in production halfway through filming due to the pandemic, the "MasterChef" Season 11 finale saw Kelsey Murphy crowned as the winner.

As the culmination of the "Legends" season, in which legendary chefs appeared as guest judges, chefs Curtis Stone and Michael Cimarusti were the judges in the final episodes, and Murphy impressed them with an appetizer of lobster and crab ravioli with a blood orange and saffron nage and a caviar garnish, duck breast with honey nut puree and a cherry sauce, and a blueberry and lavender panna cotta with a cookie crumble and lemon curd.

This hardworking mother of three — she became pregnant with her third child during the filming break— has not slowed down since her time on the show. Since winning "MasterChef: Legends," Murphy launched a food concept out of an Indianapolis test kitchen called Inspo, which opened in 2022 and has an outpost at Lucas Oil Stadium and will also be serving up food at the Indiana Motor Speedway.

She also stays busy catering private events and makes occasional appearances on cooking segments for local morning TV shows. She also created a special dish for GrubHub's MasterChef Table  and hosts a podcast, "The Real Eats with Kelsey and Pete," with Pete Ferriero, director of the documentary "Her Name Is Chef." Plus, according to the trailer for Season 13's " MasterChef: The United Tastes of America ," Kelsey will be returning to the set as a guest some point this season.

Season 12: Dara Yu

The last season of "MasterChef" was a special one: "MasterChef: Back to Win" brought back all-star competitors from previous seasons of "MasterChef" and "MasterChef Jr." to compete for another chance at the title. And the winner was Dara Yu , who was the runner-up in the very first season of "MasterChef Jr." back in 2013.

Yu was only 20 when she won "MasterChef" Season 12, making her the youngest winner of the show. She beat the competition with crispy red snapper in a miso bearnaise, Chinese short ribs, and an ambitious floating island dessert with tropical fruit and forbidden rice.

It's only been a year since the finale, but Yu is already busy pursuing what promises to be a long and successful culinary career. A graduate of the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, she teaches classes at The Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories in Santa Monica. She also hosts pop-ups and other culinary events around Los Angeles publicized via her Instagram account Dine with Dara. A recent event, Congee & Crullers, paired her take on the Chinese comfort-food porridge with creative pastries like croissant dough filled with egg custard, sweets that are undoubtedly influenced by her time working as part of the opening team for Dominique Answer Bakery Los Angeles. According to her Dine with Dara Instagram account, a supper club is also in the works.

Static Media owns and operates Tasting Table and Mashed.
