Live reviews

One of the greatest twosomes in all of rock history, robert plante and jimmy page have made their band led zeppelin iconic in all ways. The smooth and captivating skills of mr.page and the raw wild charisma that poured from mr.plantes lips have cemented them as musical history makers. From their unique sound to the drama filled lives of these true rockstars, led zeppelin has always made headlines whether for their amazing live performances and chart topping songs, or just for their wild ways. Fast riffs, slow beats, it's always a surprise when it comes to led zeppelins music bio. The slow steady beat and electric vocals like the ones in their song kashmir, show the sheer talent and songwriting ability of a truly excellent band, and the power behind robert plantes voice in stairway to heaven is enough to bring a person to tears. They made the music as real as could be, so why wouldnt you want to see them? You'd be watching a crucial part of rock history unfold before your own eyes. What else could a music lover want? You Get The Sexiest and most Raw performance of a lifetime. Theres nothing more a girl could ask for.

Led Zeppelin Last Concert In U.S. Photo Released

led zeppelin concert tours

The iconic rock band Led Zeppelin defined an era their final concert in the United States took place on July 24, 1977. A picture from that concert recently surfaced on social media. Check it out below:

Led Zeppelin last concert in America

This unforgettable night in Oakland, California is etched in rock history as the band’s last concert on American soil.

By 1977 Led Zeppelin was already a household name, renowned for their electrifying performances and legendary status. The band embarked on an extensive North American tour that year, captivating audiences from coast to coast. Their music,

The Oakland Coliseum was the perfect setting for the band’s final US concert. The band’s performance that night was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a setlist:

The Song Remains The Same, (The Rover intro) Sick Again, Nobody’s Fault But Mine, Over the Hills and Far Away, Since I’ve Been Loving You, No Quarter, Ten Years Gone, Battle of Evermore, Going to California, Mystery Train, Black Country Woman, Bron-Y-Aur Stomp, White Summer ~ Black Mountainside, Kashmir, Trampled Underfoot, Jimmy Page solo, Achilles Last Stand, Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love ~ Rock and Roll.

That night, Led Zeppelin created a symphony of sound that left the audience spellbound.  This marked the second Oakland concert of their first U.S. tour in two years, and there were  seven more dates left on the schedule for the massive four-month tour, which kicked off on April 1 in Dallas. However, they were canceled when Plant’s five-year-old son died two days later.

The band  announced plans for a return to the U.S. on Sept. 11, 1980 with a tour called the 1980s: Part One. However, a couple of weeks later, the day after the group’s first rehearsal for that trip, drummer John Bonham died after reportedly drinking “40 measures of vodka in 12 hours.” Two months later, Led Zeppelin revealed that they wouldn’t carry on without him, meaning that the British icons delivered their American farewell without knowing it.

Their 11th visit to the States had already been embroiled in conflict, partly caused by the loss of momentum forced upon them by Plant’s car crash in 1975. Another tour was originally scheduled to start in February 1977, but was postponed when Plant suffered an attack of laryngitis.

At the time, Page was also enduring a heroin addiction along with many others in the band’s entourage, leaving some fans disappointed with his performances. A couple of shows had been overshadowed by riots, and longstanding band staff spoke of “darkness” behind the scenes, caused in part by drugs and in part by the hiring of London heavy John Bindon as security chief.

The night before what was to be their final U.S. gig, Bindon, Bonham, manager Peter Grant and tour manager Richard Cole had been arrested after one of promoter Bill Graham’s crew was assaulted. Their second appearance at the Day on the Green festival at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum had come close to never happening. Only Graham’s legal wrangling allowed the event to move forward.

The band’s last concert in the US is a significant chapter in the annals of rock history. The band’s powerful performance in Oakland encapsulated the spirit of an era and left a major mark.

Dallas Music Stories

Where to see a show, music venues.

This former Ford plant-turned-ammunitions manufacturer opened in the early 90s but shuttered its doors in '97. Dallas dynamic duo Erykah Badu and Sarah Jaffe lit up the stage in the venue's 2015 return.

This theater has worn many hats, but it's best known as a killer music venue. Bob Dylan, The Black Keys and The Avett Brothers have graced this stage.

Featuring farm-fresh local ingredients, local craft beers and enough Texas wines to wet your whistle, The Rustic is the perfect place to enjoy a spirited night of local eats and entertainment.

The Kessler Theater is a hot spot best known as a hub for soulful superstars like Charley Crockett and Leon Bridges. Local artists love The Kessler and so do music fans!

Double Wide has a big following on the back of its homemade mixed drinks alone. Throw in live music and it's the perfect mix of Dallas creativity and ingenuity.

Originally opened as a vaudeville venue, The Majestic is home to comedy, concerts, podcasts and performers of all different kinds. This theatre has earned its moniker as a multi-purpose megaplex.

The Longhorn has seen its share of famous performers and infamous performances. Home to the raucous Sex Pistols show of 1978 it has also hosted Loretta Lynn and Willie Nelson.

The Deep Art Co. is a multi-purpose gallery that celebrates the full spectrum of art - from music and visual to sculpture and the culinary arts. There's also an in-house bar.

Canton Hall opened next to The Bomb Factory on Halloween 2017. This medium-sized venue has already hosted shows from the likes of Dan Auerbach, Of Mice & Men and Grizzly Bear.

Chance the Rapper, Radiohead, Pearl Jam and local superstar Post Malone have all played Trees, a nationally recognized venue that has delighted Dallas denizens for nearly three decades.

Robert Plant, Alison Krauss are a bewitching pair onstage with Zeppelin and their own songs

led zeppelin concert tours

VIENNA, Va. – By now, the pairing of Robert Plant , he of legendary rock god immortality, and Alison Krauss , she of bluegrass royalty, no longer seems puzzling.

After 17 years of musical fellowship – give or take a few in between to tend to other projects – these two are simpatico. A pair of musicians who revel in every harmony, appreciate every nuance on fiddle or upright bass and genuinely enjoy sharing the air between them.

At their sold-out show Tuesday at Wolf Trap in northern Virginia, Plant and Krauss met at center stage, briefly touched hands and finger-snapped through “Rich Woman,” the first song on their debut album together, 2007’s Grammy-winning “Raising Sand.”

Backed by an excellent five-piece band including notable guitarist JD McPherson, who also opened the show, and drummer Jay Bellerose, who spent 90 minutes making very difficult drum patterns look effortless, Plant and Krauss captivated during their 16-song set.

More: Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are equal parts ribbing and respect ahead of summer tour

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Drawing from “Raising Sand” and 2021’s long-awaited follow-up, “Raise the Roof,” the duo merged vocals over the rootsy guitar and springy, foot-stomping beat of Randy Weeks’ “Can’t Let Go.”

Plant, an onstage fan blowing his mane with true rock star élan, possesses a voice that remains expressive and robust and Krauss, well, to call her singing angelic does a disservice to its beguiling appeal.

A demure presence onstage, Krauss, 52, layered her hypnotic voice over the sultry crawl of The Everly Brothers’ “The Price of Love” while her fiddling added a dose of mournfulness to the fade out of “High and Lonesome.”

While the show fluctuated in pacing, there was no doubting that many in the crowd hoped to rock a little.

Plant obliged – “Want some tempo?” he asked with a grin – and gave a nod to multi-instrumentalist Stuart Duncan, who sawed his fiddle as a replacement for the iconic drum opening of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”

Even as an elder statesman of 75, Plant couldn’t resist swiveling his hips to the “been a long lonely, lonely time” lyric and thrilled the audience further when he hit a bit of a peak-era yowl at song’s end.

Led Zeppelin’s catalog received more of the spotlight than on previous Plant/Krauss outings, with the pair merging unfettered vocals (him) and mesmerizing fiddle (her) on “Please Read the Letter” (technically a Plant/Jimmy Page collaboration) and basking in the Celtic punch given to “Gallows Pole.”

While Plant graciously indulged fans’ desire for Zeppelin songs – even as the authentically rootsy reworkings they’ve become – he was equally interested in the current, praising the “amazing ensemble” of musicians (“I’ve been resurrected!”) and introducing Krauss as “the woman who saved me from the fire.”

A backdrop of mandolin introduced “The Battle of Evermore,” which built to an explosive crescendo of vocalizing. But “When the Levee Breaks,” which the pair recently released in recorded form, brought the main set to a frenetic, soul-gripping close.

More: The Beatles' 'Love' closes July 6. Why Ringo Starr says 'it’s worth seeing' while you can

The song’s mystical vibe was punctuated by duel fiddling from Krauss and Duncan, the latter winding into a fury of notes, as Krauss couldn’t help but smile watching him play. Plant, meanwhile, also stepped back in admiration, clapping his hands to a never-ending beat.

The Plant/Krauss run, which started earlier this month, rolls through September , with some dates as part of the Outlaw Music Festival Tour with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson.

What they’ve crafted together is mostly Americana, a bit rock, some blues and a little bluegrass. It's not only an appealing blend, but undeniably visceral.

Country music legend Willie Nelson has canceled several concert appearances days before he’s scheduled to perform in Syracuse.

Representatives for Nelson, 91, announced Friday that he would not be performing at the first few dates of his Outlaw Music Festival tour due to an unspecified health issue.

“We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days,” a statement said Friday. “He is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week.”

In an updated statement Sunday, a Nelon’s rep said “Willie will be fine” and is expected to rejoin the tour Wednesday, June 26, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The tour is scheduled to stop at the Empower Federal Credit Union Amphitheater at Lakeview on Friday, June 28, with performances by Nelson, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and Celisse. The Syracuse show begins at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets for the Empower FCU Amphitheater are still available through Live Nation , as well as VividSeats and StubHub .

Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and Robert Plant are all members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Plant, who was inducted as a member of Led Zeppelin, has been collaborating with Grammy-winning bluegrass musician Alison Krauss since 2007.

Nelson and Dylan previously played the Syracuse amphitheater in 2017 , while this will be Plant’s first time at the venue. Led Zeppelin performed in 1969 and 1971 at the War Memorial, while the “Stairway to Heaven” singer played a solo show at the Landmark Theatre in 1993.

The Outlaw Music Festival will make two other Upstate New York stops on July 6 at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts and Sept. 17 at Darien Lake Amphitheater. The lineup for Bethel Woods will be the same as Syracuse, but Darien Lake will feature John Mellencamp and Southern Avenue instead of Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and Celisse.

“This year’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour promises to be the biggest and best yet with this lineup of legendary artists. I am thrilled to get back on the road again with my family and friends playing the music we love for the fans we love,” said Nelson, who first launched the festival in 2016 and turned it into a touring event.

According to Friday’s statement, the shows that Nelson missed featured “a special set to include Willie’s classics and other songs” performed by Lukas Nelson and the Family Band. All other artists are continuing to perform as scheduled.

In the meantime, Lukas Nelson and the Family Band, along with a few guests, will perform a special set to include Willie’s classics and others songs. Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and Celisse will continue to perform as scheduled.”

“This year’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour promises to be the biggest and best yet with this lineup of legendary artists,” Nelson said in a previous press statement announcing the shows. “I am thrilled to get back on the road again with my family and friends playing the music we love for the fans we love.”
