KL Hop-On Hop-Off Double Decker Tour of Kuala Lumpur
KL Hop-On Hop-Off (HoHo) open top buses are a convenient way to see the famous landmarks of Kuala Lumpur.
Once upon a time it was only London that had this type of double decker bus sightseeing tour but now they can be found in dozens of cities around the world.
For tourists, particularly first time visitors to Kuala Lumpur, these buses provide an easy way of seeing many of the city’s top attractions all on one ticket. If you sit upstairs you may well get a great view of the landmark for those all-important selfies. You don’t need to hop-off if you don’t want to and you could just complete the whole tour in one go. However bear in mind it would probably take over 3 hours to complete the whole circuit of 19 stops.
Do not confuse the KL Hop-On Hop-Off with the Go-KL City Bus
- HoHo costs money, but much cheaper than getting taxis to see all these sights. Go-KL is free (or RM 1 for foreigners).
- Being a free bus, Go-KL can get very busy. With HoHo you are sure to get a seat.
- HoHo now has two routes with 27 stops altogether (2 of which are coming soon). Go-KL has multiple routes with 89 stops. You could see nearly all of the tourist sights by Go-KL but you would need to change buses.
- HoHo buses run at intervals of around 20-30 minutes subject to traffic conditions. Go-KL buses run at 5 minute intervals at peak periods and every 10 minutes at other times.
- HoHo waits for up to 10 minutes at some stops to enable passengers to take photos. Go-KL does not.

- HoHo buses have either a full open top or a partial open top. The enclosed deck is air conditioned. Go-KL buses are single deck (air-conditioned).
- If you are a rich tourist you should probably ride on HoHo and leave space on Go-KL for migrant workers and KL-ites to get to work. However if you are a traveller on a tight budget then Go-KL is the one for you.

KL Hop-On Hop-Off Bus City Sightseeing Tour
Looking for the best way to get around and see all the popular sights in Kuala Lumpur? We found the KL Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour to be perfect for this.
Ever since we found out about the Hop-On Hop-Off bus, also known as Ronda Ronda KL, we said that “one day will just get a ticket and tour around the city”.
We never got to it, until my aunty was visiting and we were wondering “what’s the best way to see all of Kuala Lumpur highlights without having to walk too much”. The Hop-on Hop-off bus was our answer.
And so, after a year and a half of living in Kuala Lumpur, we finally explored the city’s finest destinations and landmarks by riding the KL Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour .
They offer convenience and flexible routes, making this bus tour perfect for first-time and repeat visitors, especially families with kids.
You get to see what Kuala Lumpur offers from the comfort of this fully air-conditioned double-deck bus with free WiFi and a live city guide on board.
We (re)discovered everything from the magnificent view of the colossal Petronas Towers (this is where we “hopped on”) to the immaculate local and international cuisine and more!
In this article, we’ll take you to the ins and outs of the KL Hop On Hop Off bus tour, so keep reading!
Table of Contents
What is KL Hop On Hop Off?
KL Hop On Hop Off is a popular bus tour service that operates on a hop-on and hop-off basis so that you can get on and off at any designated stop.
Each stop will have a 20 to 40 min interval so you can get off, explore the site, and hop on to the next bus. At some stops the bus takes a 5-minutes break, which means you can get off, take a few quick photos, and hop back on.
Depending on the type of ticket you purchase, tickets are valid for either 24 or 48 hours after boarding the bus the first time.
TIP: Take a picture of your ticket, so you have a back-up in case you lose it.
When you hop-off, you can spend as much time as you want visiting the attractions and taking pictures before returning to the stop to hop on the next bus.
Features of the KL Hop On Hop Off Bus
Riding in the city tour bus in Kuala Lumpur allows you to explore the city at your own pace. It gives you a comprehensive experience of the vibrant capital of Malaysia as you get to see most of the city’s popular sites in a short time.
Embarking the KL Hop-on Hop-off bus meant that we could show my aunt around without having to walk too much, or without having to worry about booking a Grab Car to go from one site to another.
We also saw some sites that we hadn’t been to before, such as the KL Craft Complex and the National Palace.
Lastly, taking this tour is also a great opportunity to familiarise yourself with the city. The city route takes about an hour and fifteen minutes and the Garden Route an hour and fourth five minutes. This means that you get to see the whole city in half a day. Consider it an orientation and then pick-and choose where you’d like to go back to explore more.
As mentioned, the Hop-on Hop-off busses are double deckers. And instead of sitting in the airconditioned sections, you can also choose to sit on the open air deck. This provides the perfect opportunity for those who want to enjoy the KL vibes up close.
TIP: Choose a seat on the observation deck of the double decker bus for the best way to take in the green scenery of the Malaysian capital and unobstructed views of the city’s iconic landmarks and historical places.
Don’t miss the chance to join in photo stops featuring Kuala Lumpur’s most iconic buildings and landmarks. While the bus stops at each bus stop, there are some stops where you’ll get a 5-minute break to take photos. Among those stops are the National Palace and the National Museum.
Why is KL Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour great for families with kids?
The KL Hop On Hop Off Bus welcomes tourists, locals, and everyone of all ages. If you’re traveling in Kuala Lumpur with the whole family, this is a great transportation mode as it’s a tourist-friendly transportation system throughout Kuala Lumpur city centre. Spend less time planning out the family activities in KL and more time enjoying the day with your family instead. The bus tour already provides its own itinerary with over 60 attractions to discover.
TIP: Save money and get a discount when you avail of their promotion of the month . At the time of writing, the promo is a family ticket for two adults and two children (5 – 12 years old) for only RM 90 for MyKad holders or RM 170 for non-Malaysians.
The total of the old KL hop-on hop-off city tour took around two hours. However, the new route is split into two and there are now a city route, which takes you through KLCC and Bukit Bintan area, and a garden route which takes you to Little India, KL Sentra, the Botanical Gardens, and Dataran Merdeka.
As a KL hop-on hop-off ticket holder, you’ll get the chance to do all sorts of fun activities in KL without having to worry about to getting from one landmark to the next. The Kuala Lumpur hop-on hop-off bus stops near KL’s most popular tourist attractions.
Types of Hop On Hop Off in Kuala Lumpur
Rain or shine, day or night, you can experience the Hop On Hop Off Bus tour during the day or by night as they offer two different types of tickets: the original KL hop-on hop-off bus tour services from 9 am to 6 pm and the KL City of Lights bus tour runs at 8 pm only.
Day Tour: KL City Tour
The KL City Bus Day Tour gives you the best sightseeing excursion throughout the city.
It’s a free seating and first come, first serve basis. So you can hop-on at any time of the day between 9 am and 6 pm.
TIP: The last time to board a bus at any stop is around 4 – 4:15 pm as, due to heavy traffic, it can take up to 2 hours for the bus to return to stop number 1 (Sungei Wang Plaza Interchange).
If you want to take advantage of the city’s rich history and culture, we recommend you disembark at Kuala Lumpur’s historical landmarks, such as Dataran Merdeka. Read our blog about historical places in KL to plan your hop-on hop-off itinerary.
You can also explore the city’s shopping districts and shop to your heart’s content in locations like the Central Market, Chinatown, and KLCC.

Or, have a roadside feast and try Kuala Lumpur’s famous street foods like nasi lemak and satay at one of Kuala Lumpur’s best street food markets.
TIP: Don’t forget your sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat if you’re planning to sit outside on the upper deck.
Night Tour: KL City of Lights Tour
Have you ever seen Kuala Lumpur’s best sights light up at night? We heard that this is a great chance to see KL in all its glory!
We haven’t done the City of Lights Tour ourselves yet, but from what we heard, the KL Hop On Hop Off Night Tour gives you the perfect view of the KL skyline and city lights. You have 2 hours to enjoy KL’s nightlife with the departure time between 8 pm and 10 pm.
We can imagine that the Garden City of Lights is a true sight at night. With buildings like the Petronas Twin Towers and Sultan Abdul Samad Building lit up, you can see how marvelous everything looks.
Photo stop locations are also available during the night tour, so you can capture unforgettable moments with the family and spend time doing night activities in KL.
We would definitely have a night stroll in Merdeka Square and take picture-perfect photos of the beautifully lit-up buildings here at night, including the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.
We would also try plenty of street foods in Bukit Bintang or shop in Little India and Central Market for local arts and souvenirs. Word has it that the KL City of Lights Tour offers plenty of opportunities to take a piece of KL with you.

Thanks a lot for the discount
It was just amazing. Honestly, I was not expecting it to be so good. Starting with staff, very helpful. The tour itself tries to show us the main attractions to watch by night. It keeps us well entertained and tells us a bit of each building story.
Went with my teens and parents, staff were friendly and the ride was pleasant. Something different to appreciate our beautiful country as we pass by the buildings daily without having a second look, last night was truly eye opening
Very nice tour at night, very friendly and curious staff
