Kali Uchis Announces Tour and New Album Red Moon in Venus

Kali Uchis has a new album due soon, her first record since 2020’s Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞ . Her next LP is titled Red Moon in Venus and it’s out March 3 via Geffen. She’ll tour North America in support of Red Moon in Venus later this year, with Raye opening most dates. Check out the project’s cover and the tour schedule below.

Since Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞ , the singer has collaborated on several tracks with other artists, including Ozuna , Omar Apollo , and Amaarae . Last year, she put her own spin on the bossa nova standard “ Desafinado ” for the Minions: The Rise of Gru soundtrack , and shared a new single titled “ No Hay Ley .” “I Wish You Roses,” a new song shared earlier this month, will appear on Red Moon in Venus . She explained the album’s title in a statement:

Love is the message. Red Moon in Venus is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak, faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus. The moon and Venus work together to make key aspects of love and domestic life work well. This body of work represents all levels of love—releasing people with love, drawing love into your life and self-love. It’s believed by many astrologers that the blood moon can send your emotions into a spin, and that’s what I felt represented this body of work best.

After teasing the release of two albums this year — one in English and the other in Spanish — Kali Uchis has confirmed her English-language album “ Red Moon In Venus ” is slated for arrival on March 3 via Geffen Records. The bilingual pop star also unveiled a 20-date headlining trek across North America this spring.

General on-sale for the North American tour begins Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. local time at kaliuchis.com.

Prior to this announcement, Uchis released the sultry single “I Wish You Roses,” which arrived alongside a flowery visual treatment.

“This song is about being able to release people with love,” Uchis said in a previous statement. “It could be a friend, a lover, or someone else, but the point is to celebrate releasing people from your life without being resentful or bitter.”

“Red Moon In Venus” is described in a press release as a blend of “soul, R&B, pop, música urbana and more experimental textures,” and stems from Uchis’ goal to “create an album that felt timeless, one that can be enjoyed any time and any place and will remain meaningful throughout the years to her and her fans.”

Kali Uchis Extends ‘Red Moon in Venus’ Tour With Six New Fall Dates

Kali Uchis ‘ Red Moon in Venus era is not over yet. On Tuesday, the Colombian-American singer announced six new dates for her 2023 tour later this fall.

Uchis will start her new run of dates in San Diego before making her way to Oakland, Las Vegas, Sacramento, and Los Angeles’ storied Hollywood Bowl. Dominican musician Tokischa will join her on the road for all six dates, while Buscabulla will also perform on her Los Angeles date.

The shows include dates on the west coast that were not allowed on her previous tour — which ran from late April through the end of May — due to Coachella’s radius clause, which prevents acts from performing in Southern California for up to three months before and after the music festival.

“Between swaying, singing, and interacting with her dancers (at one point, they became a throne for her to sit on while addressing fans), Uchis gave a polished and elegant performance,” read a Rolling Stone review of her Red Moon in Venus tour stop in New York City in May.

Uchis is among the top-billed performers at this year’s Coachella, Lollapalooza in Chile, Argentina and Brazil and Estéreo Picnic in Colombia.

Uchis went into the recording process intending to create an album that felt timeless, one that can be enjoyed any time and any place and will remain meaningful throughout the years to her and her fans. Red Moon In Venus floats between soul, R&B, pop, música urbana and more experimental textures. The result is an album that, as Uchis has come to perfect throughout her catalog, transcends genre or classification, a pure reflection of her soul.

Last year, Uchis won three Billboard Latin Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and an American Music Award. In 2021, Uchis took home her first Billboard Latin Music Award for her critically acclaimed Spanish language album, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞, released in 2020, which spawned the runaway, chart-topping hit, “telepatía,” which has been streamed more than 2 billion times to date and is the Billboard Hot 100’s longest running Spanish song by a solo act this decade with a 23-week streak. On March 3, Kali Uchis will officially unveil her highly anticipated Red Moon In Venus album. So far, fans have been able to indulge in two singles, “NO HAY LEY” and “I Wish You Roses.” Today (Jan. 23), the Virgina-born songstress announced she will be heading out on a tour this spring produced by Live Nation. The journey kicks off on April 24 in Austin and will make its way through major cities like New York, Las Vegas, Toronto, and more before coming to a close in Phoenix on May 30.

“Love is the message,” Uchis said about the forthcoming album via press release. “ Red Moon In Venus is a timeless, burning expression of desire, heartbreak , faith, and honesty, reflecting the divine femininity of the moon and Venus. The moon and Venus work together to make key aspects of love and domestic life work well. This body of work represents all levels of love — releasing people with love, drawing love into your life and self-love.”

The “Melting” singer’s last body of work was 2020’s Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) LP, a Spanish album that contained 13 songs and additional features from PARTYNEXTDOOR, Rico Nasty, Jowell & Randy, and Jhay Cortez. Months afterward, she released the deluxe upgrade, complete with a new assist from SZA on the fan-favorite “fue mejor” track.

BottleRock 2024: Highlights from Napa Valley’s star-studded music festival

T he 11th annual BottleRock Napa Valley over the Memorial Day weekend offered a spectacular mix of musical and culinary delights in California’s picturesque Wine Country. Kicking off under clear blue skies Friday, May 24, the three-day festival boasted a dynamic roster of music icons, tasty bites and star-studded appearances.

Actor Cameron Diaz, founder of the wine brand Avaline , made her debut at the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage on the festival’s opening day, setting the tone for a weekend filled with unforgettable experiences.

From the diverse musical performances headlined by Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer  Stevie Nicks , stalwart rock band Pearl Jam , singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran , Latin rock sensations Maná and rapper Megan Thee Stallion, to the exceptional food, wine and hospitality, BottleRock once again delivered.

Sunday, May 26

Ed sheeran declares bottlerock ‘one of the best festivals ever’.

Despite the sweltering heat, fracas in the crowd and an early hiccup involving a broken keyboard that threw off his planned setlist, Sheeran charmed the audience with his one-man-band act, improvising gleefully throughout the night.

Earlier in the day, the English singer-songwriter even made a cameo with the Southern California punk band the Offspring . 

“This is one of the best festivals ever,” he declared.

Steph Curry plays bartender to festival VIPs

The Golden State Warriors star made a surprise appearance as a bartender in one of the luxe Wine Country music festival’s exclusive VIP lounges on Saturday. 

At Curry’s station within the opulent Salesforce Platinum Lounge, there was only one libation on offer: his signature Gentleman’s Cut Kentucky straight bourbon.

The Offspring drew one of the most impressive crowds during the last day of BottleRock Napa Valley 2024 — in part thanks to a surprise appearance by Ed Sheeran.

Queens of the Stone Age smoking hot on last night of BottleRock

Southern California rockers Queens of the Stone Age blasted through a set of sing-along classics (2002’s “No One Knows,” “Go with the Flow”) and newer rippers (“Carnavoyuer,” “Emotion Sickness” from their latest album, “In Times New Roman”) as they helped close out the 11th annual festival.

Helmed by Josh Homme, who often had a cigarette dangling from him mouth when he wasn’t singing or bantering with the crowd, the band sounded on point from riff to riff. Fans who stuck it out clearly appreciated the heavy sound they brought to the Verizon Stage, which was a stark contrast to JaM Cellar Stage headliner Ed Sheeran.

Saturday, May 25

Bradley cooper, steph curry draw thousands.

Three superstars — actor Bradley Cooper, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry and James Beard Award-winning chef José Andrés — drew the largest crowd to the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage in the history of BottleRock Napa Valley, festival organizers confirmed with the Chronicle. 

Pearl Jam brings out the hits, star power 

Pearl Jam pulled Cooper onstage during the encore of its electrifying two-hour performance on the Jam Cellars Stage to join lead singer Eddie Vedder for an acoustic rendition of “Maybe It’s Time.”

The song, written by Jason Isbell, was featured in “A Star Is Born,” the 2018 film Cooper co-starred in with Lady Gaga. It was part of a setlist that spanned three decades of alternative rock hits,  from early ‘90s classics like “Even Flow” and “Alive,” to tracks from the band’s latest studio album, “Dark Matter.”

Kali Uchis gives her first performance since becoming a mother

Kali Uchis  made a grand comeback to the stage during the second day of  BottleRock Napa Valley , her first live performance since welcoming her first child with rapper Don Toliver in March.

The Colombian American singer-songwriter delivered a captivating and glamorous show at the Verizon Stage on Saturday, offering a striking contrast to Pearl Jam’s stalwart classic rock dominating the main stage.

A gay ol’ time

Actor Neil Patrick Harris and his husband, actor and chef David Burka, along with drag queen Bianca Del Rio took over the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage on Saturday for a hilarious set that Del Rio coined “the gay portion of the day.” Celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern even made a surprise appearance and allowed the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season six winner to turn him into a queen for the day. 

While Zimmern was getting his makeover, Harris and Burka “Napa-fied” some classic festival dishes. They added caviar and creme fraiche to chicken tenders, shaved black truffle over tater tots and swirled duck liver around cotton candy.

When it came time for Zimmern’s big reveal, the audience voted by applause on his drag name. Harris’ suggestion — Faux-La-La — was the clear winner. 

“As a hetero guy, I’m as gay as they f—ing come,” Zimmern said.

Friday, May 24

Stevie nicks charms the crowd, gets gigi hadid and bradley cooper dancing .

Initially postponing her first two scheduled appearances at the Wine Country music festival, the iconic Rock & Roll Hall of Fame singer finally headlined the main stage on the opening night of the Memorial Day weekend concert.

Delivering a concise, no-nonsense 90-minute performance, Nicks revisited pivotal moments in her career. Her repertoire included a selection of Fleetwood Mac classics such as “Gypsy” and “Rhiannon,” along with beloved solo hits such as “Edge of Seventeen” and “Stand Back.”

Among the fans spotted dancing in front of the stage during her rendition of “Dreams” were “Maestro” star Bradley Cooper and his supermodel girlfriend, Gigi Hadid,

Megan Thee Stallion shines with a twerk-heavy performance

Taking a break from her first headlining tour, rapper Megan Thee Stallion had the unenviable task of performing at the same time as Nicks’ main stage headlining set on opening night. But undaunted by the Fleetwood Mac veteran’s star power, Megan delivered a dynamic, twerk-centric performance on the Verizon Stage for her second appearance at the Wine Country festival .

Though her highly anticipated third studio album, announced in January, has not yet dropped, she worked her way through plenty of fresh material, including recent singles “Hiss,” “Cobra” and “BOA.” Decked out in a dazzling purple showgirl outfit, alongside her vivacious background dancers, she emersed her fans with hits like “Thot S—” and “Savage,” providing a spirited and empowering finale to the evening. 

She is scheduled to perform at San Francisco’s Chase Center on June 23.

Tommy Lee’s epic drum solo fires up the culinary stage

Even though it is tucked into a relatively small corner of the Napa Valley Expo, the Williams Sonoma Culinary Stage did not lack star power Friday. Hosted by emcee  Liam Mayclem , the stage welcomed various stars throughout the day, including actor Cameron Diaz, rapper Nelly and former San Francisco Giants outfielder Hunter Pence. 

But the highlight was the day’s final pairing, which featured celebrity Bay Area chef Tyler Florence and Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in a theatrical open-fire cooking demonstration of tomahawk steaks — featuring an unhinged cameo from Neil Patrick Harris — that rivaled the excitement of a rock concert’s pyrotechnic show. The standout moment came when Mayclem handed Lee a pair of bones, leading to the rock legend delivering an unforgettable drum solo on a specially built drum kit.

St. Vincent captivates and confuses the BottleRock crowd

Many BottleRock attendees didn’t know what to make of St. Vincent’s high-drama art rock as she and her black-clad band performed on the main stage under blue skies and blazing sunlight Friday. Despite the more mainstream festival setting, the singer-songwriter, whose real name is Annie Clark, didn’t soften her intense act, heavily featuring the stark sounds from her recent album, “All Born Screaming.”

She and her band embraced the loud, distortion-filled sound of new songs and familiar favorites including “Digital Witness” and “New York,” flailing on the stage and wading into the crowd to make awkward eye contact with the fans at the front.

It was enough to prompt many festivalgoers to stream to the Verizon stage, where rapper Nelly ran through a nostalgia-heavy set of 2000s classics including “Shake Your Tailfeather” and “Hot In Herre.”

Cameron Diaz, Nelly get ‘Hot in Here’ at BottleRock

Actor Cameron Diaz, joined by rapper Nelly and relationship influencer Tinx, cooked up Cuban-inspired, double smash burgers — a bit of an odd choice as Nelly apparently doesn’t eat meat. (He was given an Impossible burger.) Diaz did most of the work, for Nelly also admitted he’s “completely useless in the kitchen.”

The large crowd got the rowdiest when the rapper’s hit “Ride Wit Me” started playing, with fans throwing up their hands and yelling, “Hey, must be the money!”

At BottleRock Napa Valley, the food gets the Michelin-star treatment. During the three-day event, the typical festival fare mingles with delicacies like caviar, lobster and wagyu beef. While this means a steeper price point, it’s still often less than you would spend in a restaurant.

This Napa restaurant catered to ‘The Bear’ fans 

Festivalgoers might have noticed something familiar about the Compline Restaurant booths this year: it was themed after the hit TV show “The Bear.”

The Napa restaurant and wine bar catered to the drama series’ fans at both its pop-ups in general admission and VIP areas, creating new marketing for the occasion. A fresh logo coined them “The Original Beef of Compline” and featured an image of a bear. Staff were even donning the show’s signature white T-shirts and blue aprons.

Compline’s featured menu item, of course, was the Original Beef hot dog ($26). There was a vegan version, too ($24).

“I grew up on the southside of Chicago where we went to the original Mr. Beef all the time,” said Compline co-owner Ryan Stetins about the shop that inspired the show starring Jeremy Allen White. “It brings back childhood memories.”
