'Journey 3' And '4' Now In Development; Dwayne Johnson To Return

If you were hoping for more family friendly Dwayne Johnson action movies, today is your lucky day. New Line Cinema has hired writers to do not one, but two sequels in the Journey to the Center of the Earth franchise, each of which will be headlined by Johnson.  Chad  and  Carey Hayes , who co-wrote The Conjuring , have been brought on to write Journey 3 and Journey 4 , sequels to the 2008 film  Journey to the Center of the Earth  and its 2012 follow-up  Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. 

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, which isn't the first we've heard of Journey sequels. Director Brad Peyton and screenwriters Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn were previously hired to direct/write Journey 3 with Johnson attached but now the THR reports the Hayes' will "take the project in a different direction than what had been in development before." If things work out, both films will film back to back.

Chad and Carey Hayes are becoming Johnson's guys, which is probably why this change took place. They wrote San Andreas for him as well as a few others things. You have to think if this is becoming another Dwayne Johnson franchise, he's going to want people around him who he trusts. People who know his voice and who he can talk to to drive the story. He's not going to blindly jump into something at this point.

Previously, we'd heard Josh Hutcherson was also planning on coming back for Journey 3 , but that was before The Hunger Games: Catching Fire blew up so huge. You have to think his number went up significantly, and will again after the next two Hunger Games movies. Still, he's kind of the main character so he'd probably have to come back in some capacity.

I haven't seen either of the Journey movies, simply because nothing about them interested me. Families seem to like them though and if making these movies means Johnson can do more risky fare in the future, I'm all for it. But it could also mean the opposite. What do you think?

JOURNEY 3 and JOURNEY 4: Director Brad Peyton Offers Update on Sequels

Dwayne Johnson will return for both follow-ups, which are currently being written.

It’s been said ( and sung ) that Dwayne Johnson is “franchise viagra,” and that moniker has stuck for a reason. The actor has revitalized a number of big properties, expanding their reach to larger global audiences with the addition of his charisma and talent. The Fast & Furious and G.I. Joe franchise are two notable examples, but Johnson also provided a boost to the Journey to the Center of the Earth series in the sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island .

Based on the success of the follow-up, Warner Bros. began work on not one but two further sequels , Journey 3 and Journey 4 , with Johnson involved. We haven’t heard much about the films as of late, but Steve recently caught up with director Brad Peyton while he was promoting the Johnson-starring San Andreas at WonderCon:

“We are working on a script for 3 and 4. There’s no official status but it’s one of those things we chip away at and I’m gonna do a meeting on it next week, so we’re still figuring it out.”

Peyton confirmed that Johnson is absolutely involved in both films, and revealed they had ideas for the follow-ups very early on in the process:

“When we finished Journey 2 and were like, ‘I feel pretty good about this,’ and the movie went on to do really well, you instantly go, ‘Well this is what I would do. I would do this and this,’ based on the Jules Verne works that we have, so we had concepts right away.”

With regards to developing both Journey 3 and Journey 4 at once, the filmmaker went on to say that he’s been in meetings recently where studios have suggested moving forward with multiple films at a time, and said he actually prefers putting his head down for two sequels at once:

“If I’m gonna do three of ‘em or two of ‘em, let’s just do it, because it’s hard to get there and then it’s hard to sustain. As soon as you get that release down you’re like, ‘Okay I need a vacation.’”

While the franchise appeared to be riding high after the success of the second movie, Journey 3: From The Earth To The Moon was ultimately canceled and Journey 3 is officially not happening, The series launched with 2008’s Journey To The Center Of The Earth , which was based on the famous novel by Jules Verne and starred Brendan Fraser and Josh Hutcherson. Reviewers found the movie gimmicky due to its use of 3D but it was a solid hit for the studio. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island adapted another Jules Verne novel The Mysterious Island with Dwayne Johnson replacing Brendan Fraser as the main protagonist.

Journey 2 was an even bigger hit than the original, with reviews praising the inclusion of Johnson as the franchise's new leading man . Journey 3 was soon confirmed by the studio, which would adapt Verne’s From The Earth To The Moon , which was initially also going to be filmed alongside Journey 4 . During this era, Johnson made his debut in the Fast and Furious franchise as well as joining 2013's G.I. Joe: Retaliation , cementing his reputation as an actor who could turn around struggling franchises. However, his powers failed to work further on the Journey series as Journey 3 stalled and has since been canceled.

Dwayne Johnson has an impressive resume of many unique movies, however, his career does include one strange trend: movies taking place in the jungle.

Journey 3 Proved Too Hard To Write

Dwayne johnson's busy schedule also caused delays to the journey 2 sequel.

It appears Dwayne Johnson’s hectic workload and focus on other projects when Journey 3 & 4 were still being planned kept pushing them back. Almost nothing was heard about Journey 3 from 2015 to 2018 when Johnson confirmed Journey 3 was canceled because they couldn’t crack the script. This wasn’t much of a shock, considering it had been six years since Journey 2 by that point and there had been little sign of movement on the project. Following the gigantic success of Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, Johnson moved his attention to that family-friendly adventure franchise with a similar tone which has already become more successful.

In the same way The Mummy star Brendan Fraser was replaced by Dwayne Johnson, the studio could have brought on a new lead actor for Journey 3. However, further recasting would not help the franchise losing both Johnson and Fraser. While the first two movies were fun adventures, Journey wasn’t a franchise that had a burning fanbase either, so it’s easy to see how it fell between the cracks. Johnson’s admission they had trouble coming up with a solid script indicates it might be a good thing Journey 3 didn’t ultimately move ahead too.

Director Brad Peyton and Johnson reteamed again for 2018’s video game adaptation Rampage , and while San Andreas 2 was planned, that feels like another sequel that got lost in the shuffle of Dwayne Johnson’s franchise-heavy schedule. It’s disappointing Journey 3: From The Earth To The Moon didn’t come together, but audiences will have plenty of other Dwayne Johnson movies in the future to make up for it.

The Rock is one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood who has starred in 30 action movies in just over 20 years, and here they are, worst to best.

The Movies Journey Fans Can See Dwayne Johnson In Instead

Johnson's recent projects have stuck to the familiar tone of the journey movies.

Sadly for Journey fans, the past few years have brought with them no signs that Journey 3 might be back on Dwayne Johnson's upcoming slate. Even with the lackluster performance of Black Adam in the DCU , The Rock has kept busy, with Jungle Cruise in particular honoring the spirit of the Journey franchise. Johnson also starred in Netflix's action/comedy Red Notice alongside Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. He's also set to star in Jake Kasdan's holiday adventure film Red One alongside Chris Evans in 2024. These movies all capture that all-ages adventure that was achieved in the first Journey movies and that Johnson has stuck to in recent years.

The Rock Entered The DCEU Twice In 1 Year

Could johnson's failed move into the superhero genre help journey 3.

The multi-talented Dwayne Johnson also broke new ground in 2022 by making his debut in the superhero genre. Johnson actually joined the DCU twice over in the same year with both Black Adam and DC League of Super-Pets . He plays the titular villain/anti-hero in the former movie, and in the latter, he voices Superman's pet, Krypto the Superdog . The animated DC League of Super-Pets continued to deliver the family-friendly mix of humor and adventure Johnson has gravitated towards, particularly because Johnson was joined by one of his most consistent and hilarious co-stars, Kevin Hart, who voices Ace the Bat-Hound.

Black Adam , on the other hand, was a much darker film. Black Adam's DC Comics origin is a gruesome one, and the character mainly appears as an antagonist to Shazam and Superman, although Dwayne Johnson's film shifted that narrative somewhat focusing on Black Adam as a standalone character. This move into the DCU proved unsuccessful with Black Adam sequels already being nixed, the Superman cameo becoming awkward after Henry Cavill's recasting , and the box-office failure of Shazam!: Fury of the Gods . Perhaps this setback will cause Johnson to rethink Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon .

If your goal is to make a game like a D3 that people will play for 2 days on a weekend after season start, then you're on the right track..

If your goal is to make a game like a D3 that people will play for 2 days on a weekend after season start, then you're on the right track.. As opposed to not playing til the next expansion or never again? Show us your achievements or sit back down. Casuals are the backbone of D4. Also, stop acting like D3 was so bad, at worst, it was a mixed bag.

Missed opportunity: it should've been a sick cosmetic set that made the season worth playing. That way the reward lasts longer than just the season and you have something to show off for the accomplishment. Instead you get gear from an arbitrary build that you might not be playing with stats that could easily roll garbage numbers on a character that won't matter in a couple months.

This is a good thing. The seaonal rewards were totally useless before, now it'll feel rewarding to do the seasonal journey. And it does not come with the issue the headrig's gift system in d3 had. Sets in that game were so ridiculously OP that completing the seasonal journey instantly catapulted your character often literally 10000% or more ahead. This is just a base kit that you can work with with, but not as OP as getting a set handed to you in d3 was.

I am wondering if you waited until tier IV to get this "set" if it would give you better item powered gear? Or just complete the seasonal quest asap If its only mediocre gear?

I find this to be a good change. Much like Diablo 3, this isn't a bunch of endgame 100% maxed gear. This is merely a stepping stone to help players start playing the content that will get them 100% maxed gear.

How Danny Zelisko's 50 years of promoting concerts in Phoenix started with firing Journey

Danny Zelisko was about to go on sale with his first concert — Herbie Hancock and Weather Report on April 8, 1974, at the venue that inspired him to move to Phoenix to launch a career as a concert promoter, the historic Celebrity Theatre — when the booking agent called to say he had to move the date.

He hadn’t realized when he booked the show that Phoenix was so close to Tempe and he had another act, Deep Purple, playing Big Surf that same night.

“I said, ‘Well, what do they have to do with each other? One's a jazz guy. The other’s an English rock band,’” Zelisko recalls.

“He said, ‘Who plays Herbie Hancock?’ I said ‘KDKB.’ ‘Who plays Deep Purple?’ ‘KDKB.’” He said, ‘Would you go to both shows?’ ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘Case closed twice.’”

The Hancock date — without Weather Report — was rescheduled for Phoenix Symphony Hall in late June.

Learning the ropes the hard way: 'I had to fire Journey'

That's how Mahavishnu Orchestra at Tucson Music Hall on June 2, 1974, came to be Zelisko's first concert with Sundown Productions.

He was 19 and still learning the ropes, as he discovered after adding Journey , then a new band out of San Francisco, to the bill.

“I didn’t realize that I had to ask the headliner if this was OK,” he recalls. “I thought it was my show and I could do whatever the hell I wanted. It turns out you pretty much can, but you have to show courtesy. And respect.”

That meant another phone call, this time from the guy who managed Mahavishnu Orchestra.

As Zelisko, who lives in Paradise Valley with Leslie, his wife of 24 years, recalls the conversation, “He goes, ‘Did you really book Journey to open for us?' I said, 'Yeah. Great, huh?' He goes, 'I love Journey. Fire them.’”

The manager explained that Mahavishnu was touring with 23 members.

“I said, ‘So? Just move the stuff,’” Zelisko says.

“He goes, 'Once we set all that up, it ain't getting moved. We're gonna play three and a half hours.' I said 'What?! I didn't know that.' He said, 'Well, if you had called to say, “Hey, I'd like to put Journey on as support for Mahavishnu. Is that OK?” I would’ve told you “No.” And I’m telling you “No.’

"So I had to fire Journey.’”

Danny Zelisko celebrates 50 years of concerts with a memorabilia exhibit

Fifty years later, Zelisko plans to celebrate the golden anniversary of the concert that started it all with a memorabilia exhibit (posters, tickets, photographs and other artifacts from his collection) at Walter Studios in Phoenix from Monday to Wednesday, June 3-5.

“I've been holding on to a lot of really cool relics from over the years,” Zelisko says.

“The stuff we're putting up is some of the best I have, a nice cross section of things that I think people will enjoy. And I hope they'll come down. It’s, like, four or five hours a night. And I'll be there to talk about any of this stuff that people want to talk about. Or we can just hang out.”

Danny Zelisko on moving to Phoenix: 'I knew I wanted to be part of it'

Zelisko grew up in Chicago, where he fell hard for the Beatles when he heard “Please Please Me” at the record store. He was 8. By the end of grade school, he was playing drums and singing in a band.

Zelisko fell in love with Phoenix over Easter break during his senior year of high school.

“I loved the Celebrity Theatre and the music the DJs were playing on KDKB, and I knew I wanted to be a part of it,” he says.

He didn’t see the sense in attempting to do what he wanted to do in Chicago.

“I'm just a 17-year-old kid going, 'How in the hell am I gonna get my foot in the door in Chicago? There's already several big promoters in that market,’” he recalls.

“It would have been very, very difficult to get off the ground. And I didn't want to duplicate their efforts by just trying to horn in.”

That’s not the only reason he chose Phoenix.

“I didn’t like snow and freezing,” he says.

How Danny Zelisko became the Southwest's go-to guy for concerts

Zelisko moved to Phoenix in 1973 and hit some speed bumps early on, burning through 11 grand of borrowed money on his first three concerts and filing for bankruptcy in 1975, which meant the end of Sundown.

By 1976, he’d found work at a waterbed store and was promoting concerts on the side when he got a call from Bill Graham's people asking for help with a concert at ASU's Sun Devil Stadium for the filming of "A Star is Born."

They wanted Zelisko's advice on a headlining artist that would pack a stadium for Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand’s concert scenes. That's how Peter Frampton came to top a bill that also featured Santana, Graham Central Station, Montrose and the L.A. Jets.

That same year, he launched Evening Star Productions and started booking concerts at a Tempe club called Dooley’s, hosting early Phoenix dates by countless legends of the punk and New Wave era, from Elvis Costello to Devo, Blondie, Talking Heads, Joe Jackson, the Ramones and the Police.

Two years later, he was doing well enough to try a bigger room and booked his first concert at Veterans Memorial Coliseum while moving into other markets — Albuquerque and Las Vegas.

By 1990, Evening Star was booking shows at Desert Sky Pavilion (now Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre) and brought Paul McCartney to Sun Devil Stadium.

In 2001, Zelisko sold his company to SFX, staying on as president of the corporation’s Southwest office.

“House of Blues and SFX were two giant concert concerns that came out of nowhere and started offering promoters big money to buy their business and become part of a huge conglomerate,” Zelisko says.

Then SFX sold everything to Clear Channel Communications, a radio broadcaster that spun off in 2005 into another company, Live Nation, where Zelisko served as president and chairman of Live Nation Southwest until Valentines Day 2011 when he stepped down.

“I guess I was probably a pain in the ass for a good deal of that time,” Zelisko says. “Because I wanted to book my John Prine shows. I wanted to book nightclubs. I wanted to break new acts in addition to doing the groups that we had made big acts.

"But they didn't want that at the time from us. And the displeasure for me kind of grew.”

He’s always looked at promotion as more than a business.

“It's a way of life,” he says. “A vocation.”

By the time he left Live Nation, he was thinking it was time to walk away from that vocation.

Then, he got a call from Jackson Browne and Alice Cooper asking him to help them put a benefit together for the Fund for Civility, Respect and Understanding in the wake of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords's shooting that left six people dead in Tucson.

That concert at Tucson Arena on March 10, 2011, was the first show for Danny Zelisko Presents, his return to the world of independent promotion.

“It was scary at first, jumping back into this business,” he says.

“And to this day, it's next to impossible for me to work with any of those artists that are still around that I worked with back then if they're at an arena level, because these giant corporations have the means to say, 'Here's whatever you need to agree to do a tour for us. We want all 40 cities.”

That’s how Danny Zelisko Presents has come to focus on shows that, as he puts it, are “a little bit more boutique but still fantastic artists in intimate surroundings where you can actually see them instead of a dot somewhere on an arena stage.”

He’s still booking an average of 150 shows a year at venues closer to the size of Zelisko’s beloved Celebrity Theatre and Talking Stick Resort, in addition to midsize venues across the country, including Chicago.

“As long as I continue to enjoy the music and the people making it, I’ll keep doing it,” Zelisko says. “It’s fun, it’s rewarding, it’s profitable. Usually.

"It's been a fast ride, though. Fifty years? I can't believe it. I really can't. It sounds so huge. I mean, who can do anything for 50 years? All I can say is it beats the hell out of working.”

Discovering TTW was a real surprise, as I've always wanted to create a photo timeline of my travel experiences! The photo timeline generated by TTW is amazing. Looking at each photo, feels as if it was just yesterday. What's even better is that you can select your own city of residence, and the timeline will automatically filter accordingly. Well done!

His quests require the player to complete different tasks, requesting the player to collect 3,673,750,000 Pollen , 136,000,000 Goo , 153,000 Tokens , and to defeat 940 Mobs throughout all of his Star Journey Quests.

• The requirement was later reduced to 2,500 haste tokens.
• The total amount of Pollen required to complete his quests is 3,673,750,000 pollen and the total amount of Goo required to complete the quests is 136,000,000 goo.
• The amount of pollen in Onett's backpack (32318) represents the date when Bee Swarm Simulator was first released (on March 23rd, 2018).
• Ever since Gummy Bear left, Onett's and Science Bear's quests were the only ones that included collecting goo. However, the 11/25/2018 update introduced Gifted Bucko Bee and Gifted Riley Bee , requiring goo for their "Clean-up," "Goo," and "Medley" quests. During all three of the Beesmas Events , Bee Bear also required goo in certain quests, and during the Egg Hunt 2019 Event, Polar Bear also required collecting goo for his "Egg Hunt: Polar Bear" quest. Spirit Bear also has goo requirements for her quests.
• He and Panda Bear were the first quest givers to give quests that required defeating Tunnel Bear , with Science Bear being the last.
• In Onett's backpack, it says that its capacity is the equivalent of 500k. However, considering the items he wears, it should be about at least 900k of total capacity.
• If counting event quests, he is surpassed by Bubble Bee Man , who gives 4 of them and Stick Bug , who gives only 3.
• Onett is currently the fourth to last quest giver to be accessed in the game, the third to last being Bubble Bee Man, the second to last being Spirit Bear , and the last being Dapper Bear .
• During the Beesmas events 2018-2021, Onett wore a wreath around his head.
• During Beesmas 2022, Onett wore a robot mask and a cog on his belt.
• During the Beesmas event, once the player finished all of their quests, the player could give him a Present . However, there was a temporary glitch where it wasn't possible to give him one.
• Onett was also the only NPC who could have been given a present to who was on Bee Bear's "naughty" list.
• If the player had finished all of his quests during the Beesmas 2019 event, Onett stated that he's been "twisting the lid the wrong way for months."
• He is one of the two quest givers who did not give an Egg Hunt quest, the other being Honey Bee .
• During the Egg Hunt 2020 Event, Onett wore the Swarming Egg of The Hive, which given to players when they completed the egg hunt with Sun Bear .
• When you give Onett a present in Beesmas 2020, the present you gave him includes a collection of Korean skin care products. The detail that states the products are specifically Korean refers to how Korean skin care products are generally very high-quality.
• Onett the quest giver and the statue are the only NPCs with a bag.
• During Beesmas 2020, there was a temporary glitch which allowed players to claim the Honeyday Event buff and other stuff from Onett by talking to him (or rejoining the game) multiple times. This glitch was soon fixed after a shutdown.
• When interacting with Onett while still having the Star Journey 1 quest, the text at the end of the dialogue is a riddle for one of the codes that would give a 7-Pronged Cog , used to craft the Strange Goggles in the Ready Player Two event.

AFK Journey Treasure Hunt guide

To play AFK Journey’s Treasure Hunt , use the small icon in the bottom left of your screen that appears after you accept the quest from a Hamster. This icon looks like a blue bell and is what you’ll use to find the treasure spot.

How to play AFK Journey’s Treasure Hunt and find the treasure

After you accept the Treasure Hunt from any Hamster, watch for the blue bell icon in the bottom left of your screen , just above the AFK Progress button. Tap it to summon a lantern that casts a cone of light in a specific direction. The treasure is somewhere within the highlighted area. Move and summon more lanterns to narrow down the location. If two or more lanterns light up an area, the treasure is within that overlapping space.

Once you think you know the exact spot, stand on it and summon the lantern again. If you’re correct, all lanterns disappear, and the treasure chest emerges. Approach it and tap the shovel icon to uncover and open it, claiming the rewards and completing the puzzle.

The best strategy is to use your first lantern next to the Hamster, then place the second one in the center of the area lit by the first. For subsequent lanterns, stand in the middle of the overlapping areas. Use these lanterns freely as they replenish automatically.

In the Eroded Enclave, beware of Ironjaws that may destroy your lanterns. Lure them away or memorize the area they light up to complete the puzzle.

These chests reward you with the usual AFK Journey puzzle rewards like Diamonds, Season Essence, Season Experience, and Gold. If you’re looking for more Weapon Essence , you’ll have to farm it elsewhere.
