As we near the end of 2023 fans are wondering - will 'R9' come this year, or in 2024? Well, despite Rihanna recently giving birth to her second son Riot Rose, it has been reported that she is gearing up for the comeback of a lifetime. RiRi insiders have since shut down the reports, saying 'no tour has been confirmed', but that won't stop the Navy manifesting a tour from their idol.

Even as a mum-of-two the Work doesn't stop, so it wouldn't surprise us if RiRi does announce a tour. Here's everything you need to know about the rumours on RiRi's mega return, including reports of a highly-anticipated world tour.

Rihanna has signed a £32 million deal with Live Nation

Will Rihanna be going on a world tour in 2024?

After reports claimed Rihanna's signed a multi-million pound deal with Live Nation, insiders close to the singer shut down the speculation saying: "No tour has been confirmed for Rihanna.”

It comes after sources claimed that she was planning an international tour in 2024 and 2025.

The deal with the entertainment company Live Nation "was created to facilitate a world tour," an insider told The Mirror .

"Her creative team is quietly at work in Los Angeles putting it all together as she raises her family. She’ll press play on the live show once she’s ready to go back to work,” it was said.

How to get tickets to Rihanna's world tour

In October it was claimed that the star had signed a mega deal with Live Nation. So far, Live Nation have not gone public with any tour dates or planned ticket sales but they will be our first point of call for any updates.

Rihanna and her long-term boyfriend A$AP Rocky welcomed their second son Riot into their lives in August so it might be later into 2024 than we'd like before she returns to stage. A newborn and a tour might even been too much for a powerhouse superstar like RiRi.

As soon as more information on Rihanna's tour and how to get tickets is available, we'll update this page!

When was Rihanna's last world tour?

Rihanna's last tour was The ANTI world tour in 2016 which started in March in Florida, Jacksonville and ended in November in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The 'ANTI' tour was the artist's seventh concert tour and was in support of her eighth studio album ANTI. Only Big Sean accompanied RiRi as a support act on her UK/Europe dates of the tour after The Weekend pulled out last minute. For her North America dates Rihanna had Travis Scott as her special guest.

The tour started just after her song 'Work' with Drake hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and she surprised fans across the world by bringing him onto stage to perform with her.

Rihanna shares sweet footage of her son

After teasing new music for years, Rihanna is currently sitting on an abundance of new tunes the insider continued: "[She] has two albums’ worth of material to release once she’s back.”

Rihanna's fandom pushed a theory a few years ago suggesting Rihanna's comeback could actually be a double album. With news that she has two albums' worth of material this theory could be coming true - now that would be quite the Rihanna revival.

After her Super Bowl performance this year she said she was "excited to actually put new music out" but she didn't have any updates - maybe this excitement could spur the new mum to get back into it sooner rather than later.

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are now the parents of two little boys

Since her album hiatus the star has featured on a PARTYNEXTDOOR song 'Believe It', as well as releasing music for the Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever soundtrack with 'Lift Me Up'.

She returned to live performing in May of this year when she announced her second pregnancy at her Super Bowl halftime show. Dressed in an iconic red fit beside her dancers in all white, the 'Work' star flashed her baby bump.

Rihanna’s Rumored 2023 Tour May Be Announced After The Super Bowl Halftime Show

Riri may be coming to a city near you.

MILAN, ITALY - July 13: Barbadian singer and songwriter Rihanna performs live at San Siro Stadium in...

Rihanna’s first performance in over five years may be setting the stage for an upcoming world tour. The “Work” singer is rumored to be embarking on her first world tour in over seven years, since 2016’s Anti Tour, and she might be announcing tour dates and details shortly after her Super Bowl Halftime Show on Feb. 12.

Page Six reported on Feb. 7 that three different sources have heard “rumblings” of tour plans , which were being kept very secret. “There has been a lot of talk among people in the know, especially in the last week or two, that Rihanna is gearing up to announce a tour,” an insider said. “It seems to be more than just hearsay at this point.” The outlet may be onto something, as just days earlier, The Sun also reported that a Riri tour was in the works.

Rihanna announced that she would headline the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Show in September, immediately causing buzz that a new album would finally follow after nearly seven years of waiting. However, she quelled the speculation that November, telling the Associated Press that the Super Bowl and the release of new music are two separate things that may not intertwine. However, she didn’t say anything about a tour, and wouldn’t it just make sense for tickets to go on sale after she makes her big comeback at the Super Bowl? Here’s everything to know about Riri’s (alleged) 2023 tour.

Rihanna’s Potential 2023 Tour Dates

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - JULY 4: Rihanna performs live at Tele2 Arena on July 4, 2015 in Stockholm, Swede...

Given how Rihanna has yet to confirm a world tour is even happening, dates have naturally not been announced yet. However, The Sun reports that Riri will perform in North America in late 2023 before going international next year. “She has her North American dates ready to announce for 2023 after the Super Bowl and it will be a matter of time before European dates are announced for 2024,” the outlet claimed.

In addition, she will reportedly do mini-residencies at arenas in select major cities, like Harry Styles’ 2022 Love On Tour, rather than play larger stadiums or embark on a more extensive arena trek that visits more cities.

Since tour dates have yet to be announced, ticket details are a little ways off — if the tour reports are even true. Rihanna reportedly planning to release new music and tour in 2024

The singer first teased her ninth studio album in 2018

Rihanna

Rihanna has reportedly been planning her musical comeback, looking to release new music and go on a world tour next year.

The ‘Don’t Stop’ singer has been teasing her ninth studio album, dubbed ‘R9’ since 2018, first promising to release it in 2019. That year, she captioned a video of a dog dancing to House Of Pain ’s ‘Jump Around’ with the message “Update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.”

Now,  Entertainment Tonight has reported that the Bajan-born pop star is planning her musical return and has recently signed a deal with Live Nation. The publication also revealed that Rihanna is looking to release new music as well as go on a world tour from 2024-2025.

Rihanna

The Fenty fashion label owner’s original goal was reportedly to go on tour this year, before finding found out she and partner A$AP Rocky were expecting their second child, Riot Rose . Reports emerged that she was set to headline Glastonbury 2023 before being with child forced her to pull out. She is rumoured to be one of the two female headliners booked to top the bill at the festival in 2024 .

In February, she told British Vogue that she wanted to drop her album this year.

“Honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year,” she said. “But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.”

Recommended

Rihanna also admitted that her 2016 record ‘Anti’ was her “most brilliant album” and that its legacy – along with her perfectionist tendency –has gotten in the way of her releasing her next work.

“I realised that if I keep waiting until this feels right and perfect and better, maybe it’s going to keep taking forever and maybe it’ll never come out and no, I’m not down to that,” the 35-year-old said of the upcoming album. “So I want to play. And by play, I mean I have my ideas in my head, but I can’t say them out loud yet.”

Rihanna’s last release was the 2022 song ‘Lift Me Up’ , a sombre ballad that was the lead single to the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. It also was a tribute to the late actor Chadwick Boseman .

In March this year, Rihanna was the headlining act for the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show , where she revealed her second pregnancy to the world. Ahead of the performance, she told the Associated Press that “Super Bowl is one thing. New music is another thing,” insinuating she wasn’t releasing music around the time of the performance.

She continued: “I knew, the second that I announced this I said, ‘Oh my God, they’re gonna think my album is coming, I need to get to work.’”

At the press conference for the Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, Rihanna revealed that she was “open to exploring, discovering, creating things that are new, things that are different, things that are off, weird, might never make sense to my fans. I just want to play, I want to have fun with music.”

In other news, Rihanna also become the first female to have ten songs reach one billion streams on Spotify .

Rihanna made her entrance through one of the tunnels like a boxer coming out for the main event. Concealing her face under a heavy hood, she slowly found her way onto the platform opposite the stage. A spotlight followed her every move, making the white robe glow, while phone lights provided stars to pierce through the dark night surrounding her. A single microphone waited on a stand as thunderous applause and ear-piercing screams filled the venue, and it served to silence the crowd in an instant. “All along it was a fever, a cold sweat hot-headed believer…” Having exposed nothing more than her unmistakable voice (and fingernails and unmistakable ass) to her audience, there was no doubt as to who was hiding under that robe. The entirety of “Stay” was performed from that position, before she revealed her face. Having attended close to a thousand concerts, it’s not often I find myself in awe at being in close proximity to a musician, but seeing Rihanna standing in front of me, in the flesh, made me realize what a cult of personality she has built around herself. As she continued the performance with “Love the Way You Lie (Part II)”, she was part pop diva, part rock star, part sex symbol, all while never being anything but Rihanna. She is still so young, yet has already solidified herself among the very few people in history who everyone will know by a single name. It was very in the show, but I was already convinced she had earned that status as well. Her voice is her defining talent, but her business acumen, stage presence, attitude, and beauty are what complete the package. - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2016/05/10/rihanna-viejas-arena-05-09-16/#sthash.AluW51yF.dpuf

With all that has happened in France recently, Rihanna faced a stiff challenge getting Parisians and herself in a summery party mood at the Stadt De France.

However, she seemed to instinctively make the right choices to tap into the crowds fears, their need to reflect and their right to sing and dance without care. Rihanna opened the show hidden beneath a white hooded sweater and sang the wistful 'Stay' - a song whose lyrics took on a lot of ambivalence given the current political climate.

The songs from her Anti album were well received even though their lazy, sexy groove is more suited to a more intimate arena. Among the many hits from the album, 'Desperado' and 'Kiss it Better' stood out as they showcased Rihanna's scything vocals and Prince-like funk.

Rihanna also expertly mixed in medleys of favourites such as 'Umbrella', 'Man Down' and 'We Found Love in a Hopeless Place.' An undoubted highlight was 'Diamonds' which was introduced with a genuinely heartfelt speech by Rihanna expressing support for peace and the people of France. She then asked for the stadium to send out its light to France by way of illuminated mobile phones and the result was a spectacular touching moment.

By the end of the show, everyone had fallen more in love with Rihanna and headed back into the dark Parisian night with a little more light in their hearts and minds.

You've seen her music videos. You follow her on twitter. You follow her style, trends, favorites. You sing the lyrics in the shower, driving home with your friends, serenading a lover. But nothing is as real as seeing Rihanna perform live!!! The energy from the audience, the attitude and power that's thrown back off the stage...ah-maz-ing. The peeks and valleys from the soulful serenade of Stay to the sexy shock of S&M it's all new once you hear it live! One of my favorite things about going to a show is not only the excitement building up to it, buying the tickets then getting my bracelet and going in. That's just the beginning. I love more than anything, after seeing a great show and I'm back at home listening to the music, remembering where I was, who I was with, how I felt, what I saw and how much fun we were having when we were rocking out and suddenly, Rihanna isn't just some celebrity entertainer, she is a part of something bigger and the music is suddenly different, better, more meaningful. I've seen Rihanna a couple of times and every time that girl delivers. Her fans love her, she has attitude and swag that makes her real and sometimes the energy leaves you glowing for days and asking yourself, how long do I have to wait until music makes me feel this high again?

It was a great concert from the begining. DJ Mustard started the show, and it was wery good warm up, people were dancing.

Then after a little break came on the stage Big Sean. That was also powerful performance and we really enjoyed that.

After another break started Rihanna's show. She came from the back of the arena to the little stage above the soundmen. Two slow songs were awesome. Than she walked on steel and glass bridge and sing a song Woo and another one above us. See was so close to us, that was perfect. Then the reast of the show was on the main stage. She sings wery well, but the sound was overbassed, and the singing can't be heared clearly, that was mistake. Also she was'n talk much, she gave us one song after another. But the songs are so great. It was generally songs from the new album Anti, great. The show duration was 90min.

I'm so blessed that I was on the show. I was great. Thank you and hopefully see you RiRi again soon.

Rihanna's Anti World tour concert in Malmö was even better than I expected. I have to be honest, I was not a big fan of hers but of course Queen Riri changed that with her beautiful yet slaying personality and amazing voice. The overall experience was fun althought the only thing that was a littlee annoying is the fact that the concert started a little more than an hour later than what it was supposed to. But I mean.. it's Rihanna, she can do whatever. A tips from me would be to either buy the standing tickets as close to the scene as possible or buy the ones that are high up and on the opposite side of the scene. I was up and although it was long away from Riri it was magical to see all the people and the lights and literary everything. If you're hesirating weather you should go or not I would tell you to go go go, because it is such a beautiful and fun experience to have!

In one word - unforgettable.

Rihanna was in rare form. This tour has a more subdued palette than her other tours, as the stage was a blank white, and all of her outfits were in shades of cream, tan, black, and brown. However, there was a special energy in the room that night. Rihanna seemed happy, comfortable, and more in control than she has ever been. She joked with the crowd, engaged with all sides of the arena, and made sure everyone had a good time. Halfway during the concert, she announced that it was party time, and the stage lit up with these cool colored pods that pulsated in different colors. Other highlights include her flying over the audience, a foam machine on stage, and her dancers exciting the crowd in sparkly outfits.

I envy those who are going to see her, and implore those who can still buy tickets to do so!

Rihanna is probably one of the best pop artists at the moment. I've gone to three shows - first in Portugal, in her "Loud" tour; 2nd in London in a small venue for her "777" tour; and the last one in Richmond park, as part of the "Unapolagetic" tour. All of them were incredibly amazing! Her songs put so much energy in the crowd and it's impossible to not get stuck to her dance moves and stage special effects.

From the lights, sceneries, to the outfits - everything is top quality and very sophisticated and original.

You are able to listen to the top hits, and also some medleys from her older stuff. Setlists are wisely chosen, as they keep the crowd excited along the show.

I would definitely go to her next show - it's always a surprise and somewhat different from what she has done until now.

Daaaammmn. I didn't know what to expect, especially since I found myself more excited for the preshow of 'the weeknd'to the Rhianna tour and contemplated selling the tickets after he and Travis Scott pulled out. I'm glad I didn't. The show itself made me realise just how many anthems Rhianna has to her name. These sprinkled throwbacks were the most memorable for me throughout the show. The set and lighting combined to give a fab production value over all, in particular the very beginning where Rihanna emerged from behind and took a smaller stage before flying off on a clear platform across to the main stage. Overall I really really enjoyed the show. Wasn't quite one that made me jump and wave my arms around, but one that made me appreciate the talent Rihanna clearly has.

Rihanna Is Reportedly Releasing New Music in 2024

preview for Every Time Rihanna Slayed the Red Carpet

Entertainment Tonight reported yesterday that Rihanna is planning to make her musical return next year and has a deal with Live Nation. The outlet learned that she will release new songs and is also planning a world tour for 2024–2025. The exact timeline was not specified, but still: The music is coming, at long last.

Shortly after that report was published, Billboard debunked the tour claim. A “high level” source told Billboard that reports of Rihanna having a multi-year contract with Live Nation are “bogus,” adding, “no tour has been confirmed for Rihanna.” The outlet did not, however, dispute the claim that Rihanna plans to release new music next year.

Rihanna spoke about the state of her music in February. A new album in 2023 was the original goal, she told British Vogue , then she and Rocky announced their second pregnancy.

“I want it to be this year,” she said then. “Like, honestly, it’d be ridiculous if it’s not this year. But I just want to have fun. I just want to make music and make videos.”

While Rihanna admitted that Anti was her “most brilliant album,” she conceded that its legacy and her perfectionist tendency have been getting in the way of her releasing her next work.

“ I realized that if I keep waiting until this feels right and perfect and better, maybe it’s going to keep taking forever and maybe it’ll never come out and no, I’m not down to that,” she said of the upcoming album. “So I want to play. And by play, I mean I have my ideas in my head, but I can’t say them out loud yet.”

Rihanna Details Massive ‘Anti’ World Tour

  • By Daniel Kreps

Daniel Kreps

Although Rihanna  hasn’t revealed the details surrounding her impending LP Anti , the singer has already plotted a long world tour in support of her new album. The Anti World Tour kicks off February 26th at San Diego, California’s Viejas Arena and will spend three months circling North America before the first leg closes out May 7th at Oakland’s Oracle Arena. The following month, Rihanna will embark on a two-month trek through Europe.

Travis Scott will serve as Rihanna’s opening act throughout the North American leg, while the Weeknd  and Big Sean  will accompany her on the European tour. Anti World Tour tickets go on sale to American Express card members and Tidal subscribers on November 30th, with a general on-sale date for all shows scheduled for December 3rd.

Anti is the culmination of a long recording process for Rihanna; after releasing four albums in four years between 2009 and 2012, it’s been three years since Unapologetic arrived in November 2012. Rihanna hasn’t been completely dormant: In the past year, she’s released three singles – “FourFiveSeconds,”   “Bitch Better Have My Money,”  and “American Oxygen”  – but it’s unclear whether those tracks will appear on the Kanye West-executive produced LP.

“To me it’s never done until it’s done. Until the final moment,” Rihanna told NME in a September interview. “I have so many songs I love – and they’re so different – that it’s hard to actually put them all on the same album.” The singer also revealed she had worked with Charli XCX on some songs that could potentially make the final tracklist. Recently, Rihanna revealed her Roy Nachum-creared album cover and the album title for her upcoming LP  at a Los Angeles event.

Anti ‘s impending arrival was trumpeted in mysterious Samsung ads  during the American Music Awards; when the album does arrive, it will likely spend a period of exclusivity on both the Tidal streaming service and Samsung mobile devices before public consumption.

With queen catalog deal, sony would rule cooled music publishing market, 'blue sun palace' review: a moody debut shines light on sisterhood among chinese immigrants working in a massage parlor, popular on variety.

In the months leading up to her new album, Starr has become a magnet for collaborations, from “Stamina” with Nigerian heavyweights Young Jonn and Tiwa Savage to reconnecting with the latter on “Gara” from the “Water and Garri” soundtrack; she joined joined forces with buzzing French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura for “Hypé” and superstar DJ-producer David Guetta on “Big FU,” also featuring rapper Lil Durk. And just earlier this year, Starr delved into the Latin music with the scorching single “Santa” alongside Rvssian and Rauw Alejandro, propelling to No. 8 on the Hot Latin Songs chart in the US and racking up 160 million Spotify streams in under two months (the song is a bonus track on “The Year I Turned 21”).

Starr reconnected with Variety over Zoom to discuss her new album, navigating fame and what’s next.

You posted a clip on Instagram that revealed the new album was actually supposed to come out last summer, before your tour. What led to the delay?

My people, my team wanted the album out last year — we had the artwork by September and I already had most of the songs. But I felt like something was missing — it didn’t feel complete to me. I felt like I was kind of rushing. On the business side, it [might have been] the right thing to do, and I saw what they were trying to do, but I didn’t feel prepared. I wanted to take my time with it, and everything fell into place. I didn’t have to argue — we had features coming out, and I felt like it would be too much to have an album with all these features out already. Even [“Santa”] was supposed to come out last year.

I had a lot of stuff happen personally and in my work life that made me grow up so much, maybe from having to tour alone and be away from my family for so long. I feel like I grew up so much in the last six months —sonically also, because I’ve always loved making music but I wasn’t sure of my sound yet. I didn’t see my superpowers as superpowers. But now I see that it’s a superpower to be able to go into any, any genre and still be Ayra Starr.

Would you say that patience comes with getting older?

Definitely. I was having a conversation with a friend today and I was like, “I wouldn’t be who I am now if I didn’t have experience,” and the experiences I’ve had have taught me to be patient. Last year, I didn’t have those experiences — it was my first time doing what I did, and of course I was impatient with myself. Of course, I didn’t know certain things. But now I know better.

You seem more vulnerable in the new music, releasing some more details about personal things that you’ve experienced. How did you come to feel comfortable revealing those things to the world?

What’s one of the things you’ve enjoyed most about being 21?

Let me see… um, meeting Rihanna. (laughs) It’s really crazy: An artist I grew up with, listening to me… It doesn’t even seem like she’s real — she’s Rihanna, it’s like she’s an idea. You never think that you’re going to actually meet her one day and be one of her favorite artists and she’s going to love you.

You were so young when your career started in earnest — 17, 18 years old. What has it been like basically growing up in front of the world?

Yeah, it’s been crazy, very crazy because the public has literally seen me grow since my first EP. I think that’s why my fans are very protective — very supportive, and they don’t joke about me. (laughs) But we literally grew up together — we shared all these experiences together and I have the honor of singing about them on the album.

Sonically, this album is very different for you — more pop elements, more guitar, more R&B vibes. What led to those experiments?

I knew I wanted to give you guys something different. With the last project, before I released the deluxe, I wrote in my notes, “After this album, I’m going to release one of the greatest Afrobeats albums to ever be released!” I want to give myself a challenge. I have a good ear and I know what I want to hear. I’m like, “I want this, I want that,” and I might sound crazy in the beginning and the producers are like, “Nope!” (laughs)

But I’ve given it my absolute best and worked with the best people. I’m very excited about this album, but I’m not allowing myself to get too excited.

After almost four years of work, Rihanna finally dropped Anti on Wednesday. It was first released on Jay Z's Tidal (after briefly leaking).

On the new album, Rihanna takes on new sounds and influences, including the slow, heartbreak ballad "Never Ending," which sounds like British singer Dido's 1998 "Thank You," and a cover of psych-rock band Tame Impala's "New Person, Same Old Mistakes."

"Ultimately, Anti 's sound is more than just another new costume for a singer who's dabbled in everything from flirty teen-pop to aggressive trap over the last decade-plus," Brittany Spanos wrote in Rolling Stone 's review of the album published Monday. "This is an album that forces us to question the boxes we've placed Rihanna in all along."

Retired Rihanna ? The singer and beauty mogul appeared to be sending a message with her outfit choice on Thursday as she was spotted enjoying a walk through New York City with her beau , A$AP Rocky .

The 36-year-old self-made billionaire was photographed rocking a high fashion t-shirt dress that featured a shirt reading, "I'm Retired, This Is As Dressed Up As I Get." The subtle statement comes as her fans -- dubbed the Rihanna Navy -- continue to clamor for her highly anticipated next album , which they've nicknamed R9 .

Connor Ives, the fashion brand behind RiRi's sold-out dress, teased that the superstar is "Always sending messages" with a winking face in an Instagram post .

The "Love on the Brain" singer's last full-length album, Anti , was released in 2016. The mother of two has since redirected her energy to her fashion , beauty and personal endeavors, but did release a single -- "Lift Me Up"  for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack -- in 2022. She also performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2023.

The status of Rihanna's hypothetical ninth album has become something of a running joke for the singer, who has addressed her progress in numerous interviews with ET.

Most recently, in April , Rihanna had a cheeky response when asked when R9 is coming out.

"I wanna know, too," she joked.

The artist also addressed whether her sons -- RZA, 2 , and Riot, 10 months -- might be featured on any upcoming tracks, saying it's "up to them."

She added, "I already got stuff that I feel like I could make hits out of."

At the time, Rihanna said that she and Rocky were in the process of "really trying to figure out who's gonna use what."

"Because it's so good," she teased.

Back in October 2023, ET had learned that  the GRAMMY winner was planning a world tour  for 2024/2025 after striking a deal with Live Nation amid plans to release new music. So far, there's been no update on either front.

Meanwhile, Rihanna has said that she's open to having more children.

"I don't know what God wants, but I would go for more than two," she told  Interview  in April. "I would try for my girl."

Rihanna performing " We Found Love " in Buffalo, NY

After Rihanna performed at the 2012 MTV Music Awards, she announced that she was to start a world tour to support her upcoming seventh studio album Unapologetic . [1] She embarked on a promotional tour known as the 777 Tour that lasted for seven days before the release of the album. Live Nation further released a trailer for the world tour and the North American tour dates. [2] Tickets went on sale in September 2012. The European dates and tickets were released two months later in November. [3]

Beginning in early March of 2013, Rihanna began to release videos for the tour through her Youtube channel showing behind the scenes footage regarding the costumes, the stage, and dance rehearsals. [4] The final video showed preparations for the first show in Buffalo, New York.

Rihanna performing "Rockstar 101" in Toronto, ON

The tour has received generally positive reviews. Jane Stevenson from the Toronto Sun wrote that "bigger was definitely better as the 25-year-old artist, starting an hour later than scheduled, kicked off her show kneeling in a black cape in front of a female statue on a video screen before the full effect of the large-scale production kicked in...And if she was still suffering from the laryngitis that caused her to cancel two shows of the Diamonds Tour in the U.S. last week, you’d never know it from her strong vocals on such ballads as , "What Now," "Love The Way You Lie" and "Stay"...I’ve seldom seen a music artist so aware of her body and how to use it." Sam Adams from The Inquirer gave a positive review for the performance at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, writing Rihanna "gave herself equally to every new arrangement" and is "either an endlessly versatile performer or a vacant vessel, a chameleon or a cipher." [5] Brad Wheeler from the The Globe and Mail wrote "The 100-minute thrill ride included a two-tune encore, comprised of the bluesy ballad Stay – the woman can sing – and the sky-gazing, swirling, upswooping single Diamonds...Rihanna’s star is hot and still on the rise – Beyoncé’s Sasha Fierce is now Sasha Fears." [6]

Mikael Wood from the Los Angeles Times positively reviewed the show stating, "At 25, Rihanna, like many of the suspended adolescents in her fan base, isn't yet willing to decide which one of her many roles will define her. If anything, she revealed more of them Monday night at Staples Center, where her Diamonds World Tour touched down for a sold-out concert that felt like four smaller shows strung together with costume and set changes. The concert was defined throughout by the woman at the center of it." [7] Mike Bell from the Calgary Herald gave a positive review of the show stating, "It was big, bright and bombastic. But she was somehow bigger, brighter and more bombastic. And deserving all of the attention for all of the right reasons, especially that main reason. Rihanna is a pop star. A pretty great one at that." [8] John-John Williams IV from The Sun wrote that "Rihanna gave a stellar performance in Baltimore" and added that she "pulled out all the stops, performing hit after hit." [9]

Jim Farber from the New York Daily News wrote that Rihanna gave a "dense and ambitious show" at the Prudential Center and that the show "sparkled any way you looked at it." [10] Christopher Spata from The Tampa Tribune gave a positive review for her performance at the Forum, writing that she was "captivating" and "happy to be back on stage." [11] Jeff Rosenthal from Rolling Stone commented on her performance in Brooklyn writing: "It could be very easy to dislike Rihanna and all she does – so many people unfollow one another on Twitter just because they're not being followed back – but who cares, her show is good. Her show is good because her songs are good, and her songs are good because her taste is good." [12]

Commercial response [ ]

After the tour was announced, it created mass success at the box office and many venues sold out within minutes. Due to high ticket demands in North America, additional dates were added in New York City, Toronto, and Montreal as a result. [13] Also in Europe, ticket experts predicted stadium dates to sell fast in the UK. [14]

During the performance in Morocco, Rihanna performed in front 150,000 people, her biggest audience to date. [15] She made history by becoming the youngest artist to perform at the Stade de France in Paris, beating out Lady Gaga who previously held the record. [16] She also made history becoming the youngest artist to sell out the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff. [17]

Out of the 96 shows, all were sold-out except three.

Rihanna Drips in Diamonds for a Night Out in New York City

The singer recently became the top female solo artist with the most diamond-certified hits

preview for Law Roach Reveals the Zendaya Look That Left Him in Tears | Fashion Flashback | Harper's BAZAAR

On Friday, the singer took a break from her Fenty Beauty press tour to have some fun with longtime friend Melissa Forde at celebrity hot spot Pergola. For the occasion, RiRi wore a black minidress with blue and red mesh overlays, and wrapped herself up in a fluffy zebra-print jacket. A known lover of fur outerwear—remember her heart-shaped Yves Saint Laurent coat ?—Rihanna looked like a true personal fashion killa.

rihanna on may 31 wearing a zebra print jacket and minidress

Naturally, she accessorized with a diamond collar necklace and layered some diamond tennis necklaces on top for good measure. On her arm, she carried a black quilted shoulder bag from Gucci, complete with a silver horsebit, chain, and $3,890 price tag. Rihanna sparkled from head to toe with the help of small diamond earrings and a diamond anklet on her right foot, and she matched her designer bag with pointed black heels and black square-shaped sunglasses. A gold ring seemed to be the only non-diamond piece of jewelry she wore.

A head-turning glam was also a must for the Fenty Beauty founder. She wore her hair in blonde braids, which she wrapped around her head and pinned into place with multiple crystal pins and a large diamond flower clip. Her perfectly manicured brows matched her blonde locks, while a pair of fluttery false eyelashes made her green eyes pop. A brown lip liner and clear gloss finished off her look.

The singer recently made history by becoming the top female solo artist with the most diamond-certified hits—making her diamond-dripping outfit all the more fitting. After all, if there’s one person who knows how to celebrate in style, it’s Rihanna.

The-Dream, Hitmaker for Beyoncé and Rihanna, Is Accused of Rape

In a lawsuit, a former protégée of Terius Gesteelde-Diamant says he entangled her in an abusive relationship. Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant called the allegations “untrue and defamatory.”

By Ben Sisario

Terius Gesteelde-Diamant, a top songwriter and producer for Beyoncé, Rihanna and other stars under the name The-Dream, has been accused of rape and sexual battery in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday by a former protégée.

Chanaaz Mangroe, who performed as Channii Monroe, says in her suit that in 2015, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant used promises to promote her career to entangle her in an abusive relationship in which he repeatedly forced her to have sex, strangled her and once made a video recording of an intimate encounter and threatened to show it to others.

As The-Dream , Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant is one of the most powerful producers behind the scenes of the music industry, an eight-time Grammy winner who helped make some of the biggest pop and R&B hits of the last two decades, including Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” Justin Bieber’s “Baby” and Mariah Carey’s “Touch My Body.” He has forged a particularly close creative bond with Beyoncé, credited as a writer and producer on her signature female-empowerment anthems like “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” and “Break My Soul,” and working on each of the superstar’s studio albums since 2008.

But Ms. Mangroe’s suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, portrays Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant as an abusive Svengali-type figure, dangling the promise of fame and success before an aspiring artist while controlling her life, forcing her into unwanted sex and physically abusing her.

The suit also accuses Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant of sex trafficking, a claim that has been cited in a number of recent civil lawsuits — including against Sean Combs , the hip-hop mogul known as Diddy or Puff Daddy — over accusations of harboring or transporting a victim of sexual assault by fraud or coercion. Ms. Mangroe’s suit cites the Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act, a California law that allows people to bring sexual assault cases even if the statute of limitations for incidents they allege have expired.

“What Dream did to me made it impossible to live the life I envisioned for myself and pursue my goals as a singer and songwriter,” Ms. Mangroe said in a statement. “Ultimately, my silence has become too painful, and I realized that I need to tell my story to heal. I hope that doing so will also help others and prevent future horrific abuse.”

In a statement supplied by a representative, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant denied the accusations.

“These claims are untrue and defamatory,” he said in the statement. “I oppose all forms of harassment and have always strived to help people realize their career goals. As someone committed to making a positive impact on my fellow artists and the world at large, I am deeply offended and saddened by these accusations.”

Ms. Mangroe, 33, was born in the Netherlands and wanted to break into the music business as a pop singer and songwriter. According to her complaint, she was working in the United States in late 2014 when an associate of Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant asked her to send examples of her music. In January 2015, she flew to Atlanta to meet Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant, who took her to a strip club, began recording with her and, according to the complaint, “told her that he would make her the next Beyoncé and Rihanna.”

Within days, according to Ms. Mangroe’s lawsuit, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant began to pressure her into sex, telling her it was “part of the process.” At a house with a studio where they were working, the suit says, he locked her in a dark room and “would only stop aggressively having sex with her once she said that she loved him.”

More sexual encounters continued, the suit says, with Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant sometimes holding her down and refusing to use a condom despite her protests. At the same time, the suit says, he made business promises to her, suggesting he could make her the opening act for Beyoncé’s next tour.

According to the complaint, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant then became more controlling and violent: He placed her in an Atlanta hotel, had his security staff monitor her movements, and berated her unless she regularly checked in with him. After Ms. Mangroe complained about bedbugs in her hotel room, her court papers say, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant exploded in anger, telling her she was a disloyal “brat” and blaming the attention he spent on her for delays to Beyoncé’s next album.

He plied her with alcohol and marijuana, the complaint says, and once forced Ms. Mangroe to have sex with him while he recorded it, and later threatened to show the footage to other people. During sex, the complaint says, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant often placed a gun next to her, which she saw as a warning.

At a movie theater one day, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant asked Ms. Mangroe to perform oral sex on him, the complaint says. After she said no, he became angry and forced her to have sex, in view of the other theater patrons. “It was a physically painful encounter,” the complaint says. Later that same day, the suit says, Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant took Ms. Mangroe to his van and again forced her to have sex, pinning her down and placing his hands over her mouth and nose, leaving her unable to breathe.

Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant signed Ms. Mangroe to his record label, Contra Paris, and arranged for a distribution deal for her with Epic Records, a major label owned by Sony. The court papers say that by the summer of 2015, Ms. Mangroe was trying to escape from Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant’s control and prepare for the release of an album, but her efforts were unsuccessful.

According to the complaint, Ms. Mangroe reported Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant’s abuse to an Epic executive, who told her that “she needed to figure out a way to work with Dream again.” In July 2016, according to the complaint, Ms. Mangroe was told that Epic was dropping her because Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant, who still controlled her artist contract, had not delivered music. Epic is also named as a defendant in the suit.

A spokeswoman for Sony declined to comment. Representatives of Beyoncé and Rihanna did not respond to requests for comment.

Mr. Gesteelde-Diamant, who used to go by the name Terius Nash, has been accused of violence against women in the past. In 2014, he was charged with assault on allegations that he kicked, punched and choked a former girlfriend who was eight months pregnant; prosecutors dropped the case the following year, saying they could not prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.

In her lawsuit, Ms. Mangroe is represented by Douglas H. Wigdor and Meredith A. Firetog, who have also represented Casandra Ventura, the singer known as Cassie. Ms. Ventura’s lawsuit against Mr. Combs , filed in November — and settled after just one day — was the first of six suits by women who have accused Mr. Combs of sexual assault.

“This is yet another horrific example,” Mr. Wigdor and Ms. Firetog said in a statement, “of how men in the music industry use their power and influence to manipulate and harm others.”

Angelica Garcia unpacks the ‘strange cultural tug of war’ behind her new album, ‘Gemelo’

Angelica Garcia sways in a black dress, her full shadow on the white wall behind her

Angélica Garcia has been busy finding herself. Or, rather, her selves. The Los Angeles pop singer’s new record, “Gemelo” — twin in Spanish — is a rhythmic exploration of the spiritual world and our relationship to our inner, intuitive beings.

It also is a study of dualities, whether of culture, gender or language. For the first time, Garcia sings almost entirely in Spanish, something she first experimented with on 2020’s “Cha Cha Palace.” A move back to L.A. from Virginia in the spring of that year led her to reconnect with her Latin heritage, and with it her ancestry.

As a result, “Gemelo” is a fascinating mix of the mystical and the feminine, of self-love and grief, that glides effortlessly from synth-pop to cumbia to trip-hop. Songs like “Color de Dolor” or “Juanita” slink and shimmy infectiously, even as they channel generational trauma or commune with the dead.

“It really means a lot that I’m writing a song about intuition in Spanish and how it’s connected to our ancestry, and there are people in the audience that are like, ‘Yeah!’” Garcia says over a Zoom call, just after stepping offstage at a festival in Germany. “Maybe that’s my weirdo perspective, but that’s kind of what I do.”

On the heels of her album’s Friday release, Garcia discussed the upheaval that spawned the album, her difficulties writing in Spanish, and how creating the new songs helped her to know and assert herself better than ever before.

There are all these dualities on “Gemelo,” and so much self-discovery. What started that journey for you to explore those themes?

It’s kind of just what was coming out at the time, to be honest. There was a lot grief processing, different types of big life changes happening at the same time. The first song to come out was “Color de Dolor.” That kind of represents that, because when you’re asking, “What is the color of pain? What is the color of grief?” — it can have many forms.

What kinds of grief were you processing?

I was reconciling distance from people that I loved, but also realizing that, being close to them, I didn’t necessarily feel particularly good either. Because sometimes the people that raise you, although there’s love there, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re seen.

There was also this strange cultural tug of war that I was feeling within myself. I was working really hard at the time to educate myself about ancestors and generations past in the family. The more I started down that rabbit hole, the more I realized, wow, these are things that I’ve always felt in me, that I’m only discovering now. So there’s a weird sadness that comes with that too.

[And] also just being a woman and feeling like I was really tired of having people speak for me and on my behalf.

Was family history or ancestry part of your life growing up?

My family moved to Virginia when I was a teenager … so I went from having Latino, Mexican American, Chicano culture all around me to, suddenly, it was very hard to come by. That separation from my culture, I had to work hard to keep it alive within me.

With “Gemelo,” I really began to realize the severity of the grief I’d been given. There was a lot that I wanted to know that sometimes even my family themselves couldn’t answer, and I had to go deeper to figure out.

What sorts of things do you feel you’ve figured out?

Patterns, like questions of nature and nurture. For example, alcoholism. You look back and go, “Oh, this person had it. This person had it.” Or maybe I realized there are abandonment wounds in my family. And it’s very interesting, when you think back to the time in which people were born. For women, especially — my mom, my grandma couldn’t make choices that I can make now.

What did being in L.A., and presumably being around more family, add to that process?

It felt like I had a little more clarity, so when I came back I felt more of the things that I loved and wanted to preserve. And also the things that were like, “It’s time to abolish this. I’m over it.”

What made you decide to sing most of this album in Spanish?

My grandmother’s like a mother to me, and I realized, when I brought home the LP of “Cha Cha Palace,” that she didn’t understand anything. Over time, as I got better with my Spanish, I remember sitting with my grandmother and I was like, “Holy s—, you’re so funny.” And I had no idea, because I was so bad at Spanish.

How was it to trying to actually write in Spanish, then?

It was pretty brutal. Everybody that I showed it to had a problem with how I expressed myself. … I was also being stubborn in the sense I still wanted it to be in my voice, as a human and as a writer. A lot of people I showed it to wanted to rewrite the whole thing. So it was a pretty arduous process that almost took me out a few times.

Did you speak Spanish a lot at home as a kid, or was it mostly English?

The first thing I ever spoke were prayers that my grandmother taught me in Spanish, and we spoke it a lot at home. But then with public schooling and everything, it kind of disappeared. The older I got, the more conversations I had with other first-gen, second-gen kids like me, that was a common thing.

But yeah, I mean, the first music that I learned how to sing, as well, with my mom was mariachi music, because she was a mariachi singer, like ranchera music. As a child, she sang it at rodeos with the whole outfit and everything. So it was a thing we did at parties.

Does it feel risky at all, commercially, to sing mostly in Spanish, or does it feel like now’s a good moment in terms of how receptive general audiences would be?

I kind of don’t care. So many countries speak Spanish, and it’s such a poetic language. It’s beautiful. The more I started to express myself, the more I was like, “Oh, English kind of feels like a sword fight.” It’s very precise and very cunning. Spanish, it’s just very romantic. And Latino music always hits hard at parties.

Are you able to express yourself in certain ways in Spanish that you maybe couldn’t in English?

I got to be more philosophical. Like “El Que,” for example, is an inner monologue, my spirit watching over my flesh body going through something and guiding it, trying to wake up the person below. So I got to play with perspective. I don’t know, maybe it just felt more natural for me to do it in Spanish than it did in English because it was me doing something different than I normally do.

That goes back to that idea of dualities. Is there a particular duality that feels most central here?

The biggest one to me was body and spirit. I think our bodies get so in routine and focused on survival. But I’ve always been a spiritual person. I’ve always felt like when I’m able to step outside myself, there’s a spirit self that guides me. Some people call that intuition.

Some of those dualities could easily turn into a divided self. But you treat it more like a special perspective, like you can see things from different sides.

So many things went into that. In going back home, I’d been thinking, “Oh, if I just go back to L.A., I’ll be seen by my culture, my people.” And then it was like, no, that didn’t happen. These identities that we tie ourselves to, it’s bigger than that. Your people are the people that see you and understand you.

That being said, I am still Latina. I am still queer. I’m still these things. But it’s much bigger than I thought.

You mentioned the idea of being a woman and how other people were always speaking for you. How do you feel you were able to speak for yourself here?

On this record, I tapped into a very specific type of rage that comes from femininity. I also think I showed love and gentleness.

You have a song like “El Que” that talks about how sometimes people don’t understand how intelligent you are. … It happens to women all the time. We’re just used to that rage, the fact that we have to get used to that and have to navigate it.

Then there’s the mysticism and wonder I see in “Juanita.” And on the other end of the spectrum is “Paloma,” where I’m talking about the divine reflected in people, how that is beauty, that is love.

What do you feel making this album has done for you, more broadly, for where you are in life, as Angélica Garcia, right now?

I definitely feel way more like I just have to speak very loudly and clearly in my voice. I realized how much of my life I had felt conditioned to check on other people first. A lot of my Latina friends, we’ve talked about that, how we’re conditioned to take care of our families and the men in our family and the youth, and not feeling guilty about just doing my damn thing.

It’s been very affirming to see people support that. So I need to do that and not feel a pressure to make a certain kind of thing, or be more polite, or be more sexual, or be more anything. I can just be. And just being is so much.
