Cruising is a huge industry, so it makes sense that the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) — which started out shipping cargo — got in on the venture in 1988 with the purchase of its first cruise ship. Since then, the company has been steadily growing, adding new ships and destinations to its thriving cruise line.

Although it’s headquartered in Switzerland, you’ll find MSC cruises all over the world, including throughout the United States. Let’s take a look at MSC’s cruises, where they sail and what to expect when you’re aboard.

About MSC cruises

Here’s a quick overview of some of MSC’s key features.

Package types: There are three levels of experience to choose from on MSC. Bella is the least expensive, while Fantastica allows you to get free in-room breakfast and select your room type. Aurea is MSC’s top-tier package and includes access to exclusive amenities, as well as additional discounts and dining privileges.

Cabin type s : On MSC ships you’ll find the standard cruise ship cabins, including interior, ocean view, veranda and various types of suites.

Main U.S. routes: MSC has only a handful of departure ports from within the U.S. Most of its routes depart from Miami to the Caribbean and the Bahamas.

Points currency and loyalty program: The loyalty program of MSC is called the Voyager’s Club. Points are earned for the cruises you take and the money you spend while on board.

MSC cruise destinations

You can find MSC cruises all over the globe, including the Caribbean, Canada, New England, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Northern Europe, South Africa, South America and Asia. There are also worldwide cruises that sail to several regions around the globe.

MSC's worldwide cruises come in as the longest trips, with itineraries lasting as many as 127 nights. Meanwhile, the cruise line's shortest options include weekend trips to the Bahamas sailing for just two nights.

MSC cruise prices

The reviews of MSC Cruises will likely mention the price of your trip, which is often cheaper than comparable trips on other popular cruise lines. Of course, the total cost will vary based on the trip duration, time of year and what kind of room you select. The least expensive options you’ll find are on short Mediterranean cruises, which can cost as little as $119 per person.

Prices are also affected by the dates that you’re traveling. A three-night cruise to the Bahamas can cost as little as $149 per person, but that same trip can cost up to $349 per person during periods of high demand.

As you’d expect, the most expensive cruises on MSC are the longest. For example, the 127-night World Cruise costs $21,929 per person.

What is the best MSC ship?

There are a total of 23 ships in MSC’s fleet. According to U.S. News, the best MSC ship is the MSC Bellissima. Launched in 2019, the ship boasts a full-sized bowling alley and multiple pools, along with an array of restaurants, a spa and live entertainment. The ranking was calculated using a mix of user reviews and health ratings.

What is the newest MSC ship?

The MSC World Europa, MSC’s newest ship, officially debuted at the end of 2022 in Qatar. This ship features more than 2,600 cabins, 33 restaurants and six swimming pools.

What’s included in an MSC cruise

MSC’s cruise packages are on par with other mid-tier cruise lines. No matter what package you purchase, all food and entertainment is included, as is access to the main parts of the ship. This includes pools, the buffet restaurant and a nightly seated dinner.

If you purchase a higher-end package, you’ll be able to enjoy more amenities. The Fantastica experience, for example, includes free room service delivery for breakfast. The top-tier Aurea package includes complimentary room service for all meals.

Neither Wi-Fi nor specialty drinks are included as part of the base price, but they can be purchased separately. The drink package has a range of options, including non-alcoholic drinks such as soda and different types of alcohol.

MSC loyalty program: Voyager’s Club

Voyager’s Club is the loyalty program for frequent MSC cruise passengers. There are four levels in the program, and each has its own benefits.

Voyagers Club levels

The Voyager Clubs levels are Classic, Silver, Gold and Diamond.

How to earn: Classic membership is earned by going on at least one MSC cruise or having a confirmed booking on an upcoming cruise. This tier is for members who have between 1 and 2,199 points.

Best benefits: 5% discount on future cruises, discounts on packages.

How to earn: Earn 2,200 to 4,299 points.

Best benefits: $50 onboard credit per person on cruises booked at least nine months before departure, double points for cruises booked more than 12 months in advance.

How to earn: Earn 4,300 to 9,999 points.

Best benefits: One hour of complimentary thermal area access, priority disembarkation, complimentary photos.

How to earn: Earn 10,000+ points.

Best benefits: Complimentary tasting dinner, one free dance lesson, complimentary slippers and bathrobe, priority embarkation and disembarkation.

How to earn Voyager Club points

There are two ways to earn Voyager Club points. First, you’ll earn a set amount of points for taking a cruise — the specific amount will depend on the length of the cruise and the experience level you choose. Second, you’ll earn points for the activities you pre-purchase and for any onboard expenses that you incur.

Wi-Fi is not included in MSC’s basic fare. There are different packages available to those who are sailing which can be purchased before you travel or during your cruise. MSC doesn’t publish its Wi-Fi package pricing online, but for example, you can expect to pay around $270 for a two-device upgraded Wi-Fi package on a seven-day cruise with MSC Seascape.

MSC cruises are not entirely inclusive, though they do provide a lot with your base package. This includes your cabin, food, live entertainment, port stops and coffee, tea and water. They don’t include specialty drinks such as soda or alcohol, nor do they include Wi-Fi or any port excursions you’d like to go on.

MSC Cruises reviews will let you know that MSC allows passengers to add on a drink package to their cruise. The price will vary depending on your actual cruise, as well as the type of package that you choose. There are five types of packages available: Easy, Easy Plus, Premium Extra, Alcohol-free and Minors.

Expect to pay anywhere from $20 to $88 per day for any drink packages that you purchase.

Whether or not you’ll need a COVID vaccine or COVID test while sailing on MSC cruise lines will depend on where you’re going. For cruises leaving from the United States, you don’t need either. However, you will need to provide other personal information, such as your name, address and date of birth.

Are cruises all-inclusive? What's actually included in your cruise fare

Andrea M. Rotondo

You might have heard that cruise fares are all-inclusive, but if you're new to cruising, that term could be misleading.

While mainstream cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean , Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival offer incredible value, covering lodging, meals and transportation in their cruise fares, they are not 100% all-inclusive. In other words, not every single thing is included in your fare. You'll pay an additional cost for all kinds of extras, including bar drinks, meals at specialty restaurants, specific activities and even specialty coffees.

Of course, a few luxury, small-ship and expedition cruise lines do bundle more amenities into their fares. You just need to pay attention to what's included and what's not when choosing a cruise line and evaluating its fares.

Since most cruises are not all-inclusive, let's talk about what comes with your cruise fare and what doesn't. We'll also offer tips on how to create a more inclusive cruise experience the next time you sail.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's new cruise newsletter .

Are cruises all-inclusive?

Yes and no.

In the sense that your room, food, certain beverages, select onboard entertainment and transportation between ports come with your basic cruise fare, then yes, cruises are all-inclusive.

However, if you compare a cruise to an all-inclusive experience at a resort with free-flowing adult beverages, unlimited activities and access to all on-site restaurants, cruises are not truly all-inclusive. At least not mainstream cruise lines.

If you seek a truly all-inclusive experience at sea, you'll want to consider sailing with a luxury cruise line. Your fare will typically include complimentary soft drinks, specialty coffees, most wines and spirits, Wi-Fi, crew gratuities and often specialty dining. Sometimes airfare, pre-cruise stays and shore excursions are included, as well.

For example, Regent Seven Seas Cruises — one of the most inclusive cruise lines — includes unlimited complimentary beverages, shore excursions in every port, prepaid gratuities, specialty dining in multiple onboard restaurants, unlimited Wi-Fi, laundry service, airfare from select gateways and airport transfers to the ship. Higher-category cabins also include a pre-cruise hotel stay and occasionally a two- or three-night land program.

Upscale ocean cruise lines, as well as river and expedition cruise lines, typically have more inclusive fares than mainstream lines but are not all-inclusive, with the exception of expedition cruises offered by luxury cruise lines.

What is included in cruise fares?

For the purposes of this story, we will focus on mainstream cruise lines and what's included in those lines' fares.

Accommodation

is msc cruise all inclusive

While cabins vary in size and accouterments, you'll find that most ships offer — from least expensive to priciest — inside rooms, ocean views (with a window), cabins with private balconies and suites. Generally speaking, older mass-market ships have fewer balcony cabins and suites than newer megaships.

The least expensive fares are usually attached to inside or obstructed-view cabins. (Views can be obstructed by the ship's lifeboats or the ship's superstructure, for example.)

No matter which cruise line you pick, your cabin will include a comfortable bed (or beds), ensuite bathroom (usually with just a shower and no tub unless you book a higher-category cabin), closet and a desk/vanity. Cabins are serviced daily by room stewards.

Related: The 5 most desirable cabin locations on any cruise ship

Meals in the main dining room are included in your cruise fare. Additional venues, such as a buffet (open long hours each day) and pool grill, are also free. Many ships also have complimentary pizzerias (such as Royal Caribbean's Sorrento's) and cafe snacks (think Princess Cruises' International Cafe).

Other dining establishments, called specialty restaurants, charge either a per-person surcharge or have an a la carte menu on the big-ship lines.

When you want free ice cream on mainstream cruise ships, head to the buffet or pool deck, where you'll usually find a soft-serve ice cream machine. A few lines will offer scooped ice cream at the buffet for no charge, but ships with stand-alone ice cream or gelato parlors typically charge extra for those treats.

Room service

is msc cruise all inclusive

Room service used to be free on most cruise ships, but cruise lines have been slowly adding charges over the years. On most cruise lines, you can still order continental breakfast for free, but all-day and late-night dining often costs extra. Suite guests might get room service fees waived as part of their upgraded perks.

Completely free room service is a rare bird these days, with Disney Cruise Line and Holland America being the mainstream cruise lines to offer it.

Some cruise lines offer complimentary room service to select non-suite fare classes. For example, guests can add the "Fantastica Experience" to their MSC Cruises booking for perks like breakfast in your cabin with free delivery. Sailing with Princess? You can opt for the Princess Plus or Princess Premier package and enjoy room service delivery at no charge.

Guests aboard Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean can take advantage of free continental breakfast during morning hours, but have to pay for in-cabin dining the rest of the day.

Expect to pay a service charge for all in-room dining on lines like Norwegian Cruise Line ($9.95) and Virgin Voyages ($5).

Related: Cruise ship room service: A line-by-line guide to in-cabin dining

On most mass-market cruise lines, you'll get complimentary water (not bottled), non-specialty coffee and tea, and beverages like lemonade, iced tea and assorted juices. You'll usually have the most options at the buffet, where self-service drink machines are located. In the main dining room, you tend to have fewer juice options but can almost always get water, lemonade or iced tea.

Disney Cruise Line includes soda in its fares, but it's an outlier among the big-ship lines.

Most cruise lines include complimentary kids' programming in the cruise fare. This includes age-appropriate activities in exciting onboard settings with trained childcare professionals. Most programs are free, but you will likely pay for after-hours group babysitting.

Entertainment

is msc cruise all inclusive

Complimentary entertainment varies from one cruise line to the next, but you'll typically get free admission to Broadway-style theater productions and comedy shows. Royal Caribbean's ice skating and acrobatic/high-dive shows are also free of charge. Live music can be found in many onboard venues, and listening is free — though you'll probably buy an alcoholic beverage or two since these bands usually play in the ship's lounges.

Outdoor movies are one of the coolest freebies on board. Princess Cruises was the first to offer "Movies Under the Stars," and it has become an incredibly popular pastime for cruisers. Most lines offer something similar now. Sometimes, the movies are old favorites, but other lines, like Disney, offer first-run movies during their voyages. Expect free cookies and milk or popcorn and even the distribution of blankets on chilly nights.

Trivia is another popular daytime entertainment option that's free, but you'll pay to play bingo — especially if there's a cash prize.

Cruise ships with art galleries often have free art auctions that often net you a complimentary glass of Champagne. But you'll need to dig into your wallet to buy a piece of art you see at the show.

Other events to look for in your daily cruise program include cooking demonstrations, game shows, lectures and craft classes. In the evenings, it's always free to dance the night away in the disco or try out your inner Taylor Swift at a karaoke session.

Also, look for cerebral pastimes like Discovery at Sea, a partnership between Discover and Princess Cruises, which offers fun activities for kids and adults inspired by shows like "Mythbusters" and "Investigation Discovery." The program includes a guest lecturer program and top-deck after-dark stargazing.

Finally, nearly every cruise line invites passengers to free parties. Study your daily cruise planner and attend events like the embarkation sail-away party or Norwegian Cruise Line's White Hot Party, where everyone is asked to dress in all white as DJs spin tunes to get everyone onto the dance floor.

Onboard activities and amenities

Many, but not all, of your cruise ship's onboard attractions and activities are included in your cruise fare. Guests can enjoy the ship's pools, hot tubs and lounge chairs for sunbathing for free, though certain adults-only or VIP pool areas might require paying for a day pass. Onboard water parks, waterslides and splash areas are also complimentary.

Your cruise fare also typically includes complimentary access to the cruise ship fitness center to use cardio and resistance machines and free weights. However, group and private classes will often charge a fee.

On most ships, onboard attractions like miniature golf, shuffleboard, rock climbing walls and sports courts are free to use, but a few lines are outliers.

What is not included in cruise fares?

is msc cruise all inclusive

Specialty dining

Beyond the included-in-your-fare meals at the main dining room, buffet restaurant and pool grills, many mass-market cruise lines include a selection of "specialty" restaurants. These are book-ahead and pay-extra dining venues that sometimes offer a more upscale dining experience than what's complimentary.

Specialty restaurants typically include venues like high-end steakhouses, fancy chef's table experiences or an evening dedicated to the cuisine of a region like Italy, France or Southeast Asia.

You can often purchase specialty dining packages when you book your cruise. Pay for a certain number of meals at the ship's specialty restaurants upfront, and you'll receive a discount.

Don't want to spring for a specialty dining package? Most cruise lines allow you to book your reservation up to 48 hours prior to your sail date. If you missed that window, head to the restaurant as soon as you board, and you may still be able to snag a reservation.

Related: 5 reasons you should splurge on a cruise ship specialty restaurant

Alcoholic and specialty beverages

If you plan to imbibe alcoholic beverages, you have two options. You can either pay per drink during your cruise (as you would at a typical restaurant or bar) or buy a drinks package upfront.

A drinks package can save you money if you think you'll drink more than a few beers or cocktails per day. However, you can't purchase one package for one person — it goes by cabin. If one person buys one, everyone 21 or older in that cabin must buy one, too.

Mainstream cruise lines also charge for nonalcoholic beverages, including soda, specialty coffees and teas, bottled waters, smoothies and milkshakes, freshly squeezed juices and bottled water. Many lines offer soft drinks packages that offer unlimited soda or coffee cards for discounts on cafe drinks.

Additional onboard activities

While cruise ships offer a bevy of complimentary attractions and activities, some ships feature onboard diversions that require an additional fee. These are often attractions that can accommodate a limited number of people at a time.

For example, Carnival's Bolt roller coaster costs $15 per person for two laps of the track. Some select Royal Caribbean ships feature the Royal Escape Room, which is $19.99 per person (and requires a reservation). A go-kart ride aboard select Norwegian ships will cost you $15 per ride. You might also pay for laser tag, VIP or adults-only sun decks, arcade games and virtual-reality rides and simulators.

is msc cruise all inclusive

Massages, manicures, pedicures and other treatments cost extra — and prices can run the gamut, depending on the cruise line. If you want to splurge on a spa treatment, consider booking it during a port day, as cruise lines often offer discounts.

Other spa offerings, like access to the spa's thermal suite, some fitness classes and private fitness training, are also an additional cost.

Laundry services

Certain cruise lines offer onboard self-service laundry facilities, which include coin-operated machines, an ironing board and detergent and fabric softener available for purchase. You can also send your laundry away for professional washing, pressing and dry cleaning, which also carries a charge.

Most cruise lines charge a fee for room service now. For example, on Norwegian Cruise Line sailings, individual menu items on room service orders are complimentary. However, you'll pay a $9.95 service fee per order. You can order 24-hour room service during your Royal Caribbean cruise, but you'll pay a $7.95 service fee.

Organized cruise ship excursions during your time in port will cost extra, generally starting from around $25, depending on the type of tour. For example, Carnival cruisers can book a St. Thomas Skyride to Paradise Point for $25 per person or splurge on a Taku Glacier Helicopter Landing and Airboat Adventure in Juneau, Alaska, for $700 per person.

You can also book your own excursion directly with tour operators.

Some ships might run a free shuttle from the port into the center of the town, but most of the time, you will get around port on your own dime.

Your base fare likely will not include tips to servers, cabin attendants and other staff. Most of the biggest cruise lines automatically add some type of service or gratuity fee onto passenger bills. Lines with such charges include Royal Caribbean, Carnival, MSC Cruises, Norwegian and Princess Cruises.

At most lines, you can pay your service charges in advance of sailing (when you pay your cruise fare). If you prefer to pay for tips once you're on board your cruise, the gratuities will automatically appear on your bill. If you wish to adjust the charges (up or down), you can visit the guest relations desk while on board.

You are always welcome to tip extra in cash to crew members who go above and beyond to make your vacation special.

Ways to make your cruise fare more inclusive

All-inclusive packages

Many lines offer different types of all-inclusive packages you can purchase when you book your cruise. These packages are designed to provide a hassle-free cruise experience by allowing passengers to pay for one or more of their onboard expenses — such as beverages, Wi-Fi and gratuities — up front and possibly at a discount.

Nearly every cruise line that doesn't already include alcohol in its fares will sell you an all-inclusive drinks package that lets you have an open bar experience on board.

Some cruise lines have a basic fare class and a more inclusive fare class. For example, if you're sailing with Holland America, you can purchase the Have It All package, which includes premium amenities like the line's Signature beverage package, specialty dining, Wi-Fi and shore excursion credit for a set daily rate.

Princess Cruises offers the comprehensive Princess Premier package, which comes with unlimited Wi-Fi on up to four devices, a beverage package, specialty dining and free digital photos. Celebrity Cruises offers cruise-only rates, as well as All Included rates; the latter comes with a Classic drinks package and basic Wi-Fi.

Elite status

If you're an upper-tier member of a cruise line's loyalty program, you can take advantage of perks like cabin upgrades, free or discounted Wi-Fi, free laundry, complimentary drinks and priority boarding or disembarkation. Note that you'll have to sail with the same line many times before the best freebies and discounts kick in.

Book a suite

While you'll pay a lot more for a suite than for a standard cabin on a cruise ship, it might be worth it if you seek an inclusive and upscale cruise experience. On many mainstream megaships, suite guests have access to sprawling, private "ship-within-a-ship" luxury areas, as well as extra fare inclusions.

For example, guests in Royal Caribbean's suites enjoy a bevy of perks based on the Royal Suite Class tier their cabin falls under. Some suites include Wi-Fi, specialty dining or access to an exclusive restaurant, a beverage package or complimentary happy hours, and tips wrapped into the cruise fare.

Bottom line

Now that you understand what's included in standard cruise fares and how you can create a more "all-inclusive" cruise experience, you can better evaluate the price of your cruise before you book. Sometimes the more expensive rate actually provides better value because you get more amenities included.

Can someone explain clearly how this photo package works? In addition, I would like to know when I purchase this package, can i also take photos together with someone else of my party from another cabin? Will this photo be included in my all-inclusive digital photo package?

Hi Maikell,

we are setting sail on the grandiosa of MSC and found out that it is allowed to have pictures with guests in other cabins as long as they are in your party. However when I want to book it online I have to choose all the members of our party. My answer is not very helpful but I hope someone has the right answer.

happy Holidays and a wonderful cruise!

We did this package on the Seaside and it's really quite simple. When you board, go straight to the photo area and pick up your VIP photo card. Whenever you get your photo taken, hand them this VIP card instead of any of your cabin cards or wristbands. Whatever they take with that card scan will automatically go in your package. If you use any of the cabin cards or wristbands from the cabin, it should technically go in your package, but you may have to track them down manually at the photo area and get them linked to the account.

Technically, it should include any photos that have anybody in the cabin that purchased a package. Practically, I would make sure they scan the VIP card so it just automatically gets included in your package. If both cabins have the VIP photo card, ask if they can scan two cards so that the photos go to both.

We never picked up a VIP photo card. Our (YC) cruise card numbers were linked to our photo account and we used either of the cruise cards or our (YC) wrist bands when the photos were taken. We got our photo account number to access and download our photos.

It may be that straight forward when you have 2 adults in one cabin.

It just depends on the complexity of the booking. We had a super family booking, which puts one adult in each of two connecting cabins and so technically one one adult had the package, even though we booked as one super family. The VIP card was the easiest thing for us (having asked a similar question on the board two years ago) rather than explaining our booking when trying to collect photos at the end.

We didn't bother taking any of the photos they took of us on our recent cruise. They were so photoshopped it was laughable

Not my experience. We had the “All-inclusive digital photo package” and got the pics in high-resolution JPEG format , not edited.

It was on Seaview, Bellissima and Meraviglia.

We have printed quite a lot files at our local photo shop and the results are stunning.

Definitely photos I am proud to show and display in my home.

I agree with SirWolf, we got some nice family photos. But we also knew we had the all-inclusive package and were intentional about taking advantage of photo opportunities.

Hi @mamaneedsavacay !  Sorry to dig up an old thread, but wanted to learn more about the all-inclusive digital photo package.

You mentioned that you were a family spread across two cabins/super family cabin/etc.  As I look to purchase the package now, it talks about it not being valid for people not in the purchaser's cabin, even if they are in the travelling party and/or in super family cabin.

We'll be a family of 7 split across 2 cabins (parents/kids/grandparents).  I'm trying to figure out whether we need to buy one of the $150 packages... or if we'll have to purchase 2 of them - 1 for each cabin... in order to get everyone's pictures?

Thanks for any insights!

  • 1 year later...

Hi thinking of getting a digital package for our cabin of 2.  Does it include those more formal shots other cruise lines do on formal nights and the "fun" style photos they do onboard with different screens and characters?

The 12 Best All-Inclusive Cruises for 2024

When it comes to all-inclusive cruises, there are a few different options:

  • Luxury cruise lines: All-inclusive cruise rates are available on luxury lines like Regent Seven Seas and Silversea. While more expensive than traditional cruise rates , the fares cover nearly everything, including door-to-door transfers, luxurious suite accommodations, specialty dining , premium alcoholic beverages and excursions. Plus, you don't need to show your cruise card every time you order a latte or a pre-dinner cocktail. You'll disembark the ship with very few, if any, additional charges on your final bill.
  • Cruise lines with inclusive pricing: Alternatively, you can consider an upscale cruise line like Viking, which offers fares with more-inclusive pricing and some of the amenities found on board the fully inclusive lines. However, you'll still have to budget for a few expenses, such as immersive excursions and alcoholic beverages beyond wine or beer at lunch and dinner.
  • Packages and add-ons: Other cruise lines like Oceania, Windstar and Norwegian offer add-on drink packages and other promos so you can create a more all-inclusive experience.

After comparing the costs between a truly all-inclusive cruise and a sailing with package pricing for the extras, the total price may be closer than you think.

All-Inclusive Cruises

Regent seven seas cruises.

Regent Seven Seas touts its six ships – with the newest vessel, Seven Seas Grandeur , which debuted in late 2023 – as "the world's most luxurious fleet." The line's intimate ships accommodate up to 750 guests. They feature all ocean-view suites, prestigious museum-quality art collections (including a prized Fabergé egg on the new Grandeur), and itineraries that call on more than 500 destinations around the world.

With Regent's "every luxury included" philosophy and 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares, passengers receive round-trip airfare and transfers between the airport and ship, as well as unlimited shore excursions, two- or three-night land programs (based on the itinerary), and a complimentary pre-cruise hotel package for concierge suites and higher. On the ship, enjoy a fully stocked in-suite minibar; specialty dining; unlimited fine wines, spirits and other beverages; prepaid gratuities; unlimited Wi-Fi; and free valet laundry service.

On top of personalized service, guests sailing on Regent Seven Seas cruises will enjoy immersive exploration ashore – with overnights in some ports of call – and enrichment programs. Top-notch dining includes French cuisine at Chartreuse (on select ships), Pan-Asian fare at Pacific Rim (also on select ships) and Italian fare at Sette Mari at La Veranda.

Cooking classes in the Culinary Arts Kitchen (available on Grandeur, Splendor and Explorer ), some tours and bespoke excursions, spa treatments, unique offerings, and certain wines and top-shelf liquors come with an additional cost.

Silversea Cruises

Sailing on board one of Silversea's 13 ultra-luxury cruise or expedition ships commences with the line's new chauffeur experience. This door-to-door service transports guests from home to the airport and back home on the return trip. The line's all-inclusive pricing also encompasses international or domestic flights (with business class upgrades in certain destinations), pre- and post-cruise hotel accommodations, butler service in every suite, all gratuities, gourmet dining, and complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, including Champagne.

Guests will also enjoy a staff-to-guest ratio of nearly 1-to-1 – and with no more than 728 guests. Other all-inclusive perks include at least one shore excursion in each port plus onboard lectures and programming. On expedition sailings in destinations like Antarctica , all guided Zodiac tours and landings are included in the fare.

When it comes to dining on Silversea ships, gourmet options feature French, Asian and Italian cuisine along with other international fare. For a special evening, S.A.L.T. Kitchen is a new destination-focused concept on Silver Ray, Nova , Moon and Dawn . This immersive dining experience, Sea And Land Taste, was developed in partnership with the former editor-in-chief of "Saveur Magazine," Adam Sachs. The culinary offerings with S.A.L.T. also include shore excursions, where guests can tour a 500-year-old family winery and vineyard in Croatia, visit an organic farm in Denmark, or learn to make gelato in Sicily.

Expenses not covered in Silversea's fare include salon and spa services, personal training sessions, select excursions, upgraded internet packages, and special bottles of wine or liquors.

Seabourn Cruise Line

Seabourn's seven purpose-built expedition vessels and intimate luxury cruise ships accommodate between 264 and 600 guests. The club-like atmosphere on board its ships comes with highly intuitive and personalized service with about a 1-to-1 staff-to-guest ratio. Each suite also has a dedicated personal suite host and a suite attendant that will cater to your every whim.

All-inclusive fares include oceanfront suites with walk-in closets, living areas and luxurious bathrooms. All Seabourn Encore and Ovation accommodations feature private verandas, while 90% of the suites on Seabourn Odyssey , Sojourn and Quest have balconies. Premium and penthouse suites offer additional amenities and perks.

While aboard Seabourn Cruise Line , guests will enjoy complimentary fine wines and premium spirits, welcome Champagne, and a fully stocked in-suite bar with your personalized selections. Dining is a real treat, with several venues in partnership with renowned chef Thomas Keller, such as the line's signature restaurant, The Grill by Thomas Keller. Seabourn is also a member of the prestigious Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, an international association of gastronomy.

Other complimentary amenities on Seabourn's cruise ships include special evenings with dinner and live entertainment; a marina and complimentary water sports; "Caviar in the Surf" on select voyages; movie nights; a chance to shop with the chef at local markets; personal valet luggage shipping service; enrichment lectures; and more.

Additional expenses include a wide selection of epicurean, mindfulness and wellness excursions as well as cultural and historical bespoke tours. You can also book the ultimate underwater adventure on one of the line's high-tech submarines on the two expedition vessels, Seabourn Venture and Pursuit. Programs and treatments at Seabourn's Spa & Wellness are also at an additional cost.

Atlas Ocean Voyages

Atlas Ocean Voyages features "always included" cruise fares on its two purpose-built yachts, World Navigator and World Traveller. The line recently welcomed a third ship to its fleet for the 2023-24 Antarctica season, World Voyager. Atlas' high-end boutique ships cater to just 198 passengers and feature spacious staterooms and suites with panoramic windows or private balconies and beautiful public spaces and lounges. These small ships also have several options for dining, depending on the sailing and destination.

The all-inclusive fares cover complimentary dining; unlimited wines, craft beers and spirits; 24-hour bar service with canapes; a free in-room minibar; afternoon high tea; fresh-pressed juices and specialty teas and coffees; butler service; 24-hour room service; prepaid gratuities; cultural immersion in every port; and other perks.

Polar expedition fares cover private charter jet service, group transfers from the airport to the yacht, an Atlas Ocean Voyages parka and vest to take home, Zodiac sightseeing safaris, expert guided shore landings, and destination lectures and briefings.

If you're on one of the line's Epicurean Expeditions, the cultural immersion program offers complimentary special tastings, market visits and cooking demonstrations. In addition to use of the marina's water toys (on select sailings, weather permitting), guests can enjoy an authentic Portuguese dinner and an alfresco Josper Grill dining experience at 7-AFT Grill. On select voyages, culinary presentations, wine tastings and other special events are hosted by an expert.

More-Inclusive Cruises

Cruise fares with these lines include many of the amenities and perks that you'll find with the all-inclusive cruises. However, you'll still need to budget for some expenses, such as alcoholic beverages, excursions and specialty dining, depending on the line.

Viking's ocean fleet of nine 930-passenger all-veranda ships offers a nearly all-inclusive experience for guests. The upscale Scandinavian-inspired ships feature king-bed staterooms and suites with many amenities, including luxurious linens and plush robes, 24-hour room service, and free Wi-Fi – plus an in-room minibar with soft drinks, water and snacks. Higher-category staterooms on Viking Ocean Cruises come with additional perks like priority dinner and spa reservations, early stateroom access, and a welcome bottle of Champagne.

Cruise fares also include complimentary dining at all the venues; one free shore excursion in every port; beer, wine and soft drinks at lunch and dinner; specialty teas, coffee and bottled water; access to the spa; lectures and performances; port taxes and fees; and more.

Viking also has two 378-passenger Polar Class 6 expedition vessels, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris. These ships also offer a mostly all-inclusive experience with the same amenities as their oceangoing vessels. Pricing on the expedition sailings includes Zodiac safaris, the use of kayaks, a keepsake Viking jacket, and essential gear for excursions and landings.

Select excursions, pre- or post-dinner cocktails, spa treatments, special bottles of wine, and other optional purchases come at an additional expense.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships carry a maximum of 702 guests and offer immersive experiences around the world, calling on many smaller, lesser-known ports. The line also boasts more than 380 overnights and 850 late nights in port, so guests can have dinner in town and experience more of the destination's local culture and cuisine.

Azamara's cruise fares include all meals (other than the specialty dining restaurants) with water, tea and coffee. A selection of complimentary wine, sparkling wine, beer and spirits is available throughout the voyage. Cultural evenings ashore or on board the ship and gratuities are also included in the basic cruise fare.

If you'd like to enhance your onboard experience, Azamara offers inclusive "Experience More" packages that are discounted and based on the length of the voyage.

For example, on a seven-day or shorter sailing, solo travelers can add a package for $799 that's valued at $1,114 (a savings of 28%). This value-add bundle includes $350 of onboard credit to use for shore excursions; unlimited Wi-Fi for one device; a drinks package featuring premium wines, spirits and bottled water; a $150 spa credit; and a dinner at the Chef's Table or a total of three nights of specialty dining at Prime C or Aqualina. Three bags of laundry are also included.

Guests can book similar packages for double occupancy staterooms and longer voyages. You can also choose individual beverage, dining or internet packages if you don't need the extra amenities or features of the bundled options.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages' four superyacht-inspired ships are designed with adults in mind and feature 1,330 cabins (most with balconies) and 78 RockStar Quarters suites, where guests have access to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive outdoor deck space. Pricing with the adults-only cruise line includes stateroom or suite accommodations and meals at more than 20 eateries serving up international cuisine and dishes created by Michelin-starred chefs. Guests also have access to complimentary Wi-Fi; unlimited group exercise classes; nonalcoholic drinks such as water, tea and coffee; and plenty of lively entertainment.

Virgin does not offer beverage packages, but the line at times advertises special promotions that include voyage credits to cover expenses like airfare and drinks. Shore excursions and spa treatments – including skin care offerings on board Scarlet Lady in partnership with Jennifer Lopez, Virgin's chief entertainment and lifestyle officer – are some of the additional expenses not covered in the base fare.

Add-on Packages and All-Inclusive Fares

These five cruise lines offer basic cruise fares that cover accommodations and some amenities – and you can typically find special pricing and promotional deals throughout the year.

With the optional packages, guests can create a mostly all-inclusive voyage with bundles of add-on extras, such as shore excursions, beverage packages, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, gratuities or shipboard credit to cover miscellaneous personal expenses such as spa treatments or a bottle of wine for a special celebration.

Oceania Cruises

Oceania's eight small luxury ships carry between 648 and 1,238 guests. The line's newest ship – Vista , the first Allura Class vessel – debuted in Rome in May 2023. The beautifully appointed vessel features four new dining concepts, spacious standard staterooms at 290-plus square feet in size, new Concierge Level veranda accommodations for solo cruisers, an elevated mixology program and more.

Oceania's culinary program is touted by the line as "The Finest Cuisine at Sea" under the tutelage of Jacques Pépin, executive culinary director and master chef. Complimentary specialty dining is included in cruise fares on Oceania sailings. Pricing also covers airfare, still and sparkling water, specialty teas and coffees, soft drinks, and Wi-Fi on the ship.

Oceania's "OLife Choice" package provides additional value to your cruise with 2-for-1 cruise fares, free round-trip airfare and airport transfers – plus one free amenity you'll choose out of eight complimentary shore excursions, a beverage package or up to $800 in shipboard credit.

Explore Oceania Cruises on GoToSea.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity offers special rates and packages throughout the year that save money over a la carte pricing – and elevate your onboard experience to be more inclusive. You'll be able to access the best deal on the added perks if you book the upgraded package before you sail, saving up to 40 to 50 percent of the actual cost.

The line's "All-Included" package bundles the most popular add-ons for cruisers: a standard beverage package for alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, unlimited basic Wi-Fi, and gratuities for the staff and crew. Pricing depends on the stateroom or suite category and sailing.

There are other options when booking a cruise with Celebrity to create a more upscale and all-inclusive experience. Guests staying in all-suite The Retreat have exclusive access to a sundeck (on select ships), a lounge and Luminae – a private restaurant that features Global Culinary Ambassador Daniel Boulud at the helm. Guests of The Retreat booking the "All-Included" package receive a premium beverage package, premium unlimited Wi-Fi, gratuities and an onboard credit.

If you book AquaClass accommodations, you'll also have access to complimentary amenities and perks, such as unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite, discounts on spa treatment packages and complimentary fitness classes. In addition, you'll also find a bottle of sparkling wine upon arrival (by request) and two bottles of water refreshed daily in your room. AquaClass guests also have exclusive access to the restaurant Blu. You can add the "All-Included" package to your booking, which will include the Classic Drinks Package, basic Wi-Fi and gratuities.

Passengers who want to book this "All-Included" package and are sharing a stateroom or suite will need to book the same package.

Princess Cruises is taking a page out of the ultra-luxury cruise industry with new all-inclusive, $3,000 cabins

  • Princess Cruises says its new Sun Princess and upcoming Star Princess will have all-inclusive cabins.
  • Guests who've booked the new Sanctuary Collection category would get an inclusive package and private lounge.
  • It's a move that could appeal to ultra-luxury cruisers .

Insider Today

If you want to go on an all-inclusive vacation at sea, you no longer need to book an ultra-luxury, ultra-expensive cruise line .

Just sail on Princess Cruises' new ship instead.

In October, Princess says its two-month-old Sun Princess will debut in the US with the company's first-ever Sanctuary Collection, an adult-only lounge exclusive to guests who've booked one of the collection's high-end cabins. These luxurious accommodations comprise 10% of the ship's 2,157 staterooms, including all its suites.

But the Sanctuary's biggest perk arguably isn't the lounge's private pool and restaurant — it's the all-inclusiveness , a rarity among mass-market cruise lines.

It's the Carnival Corp. brand's latest appeal to ultra-luxury cruisers

Mass-market cruise lines like Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian typically follow the " budget airline " strategy: charge a cheap base fare and offer plenty of irresistible up-charged amenities (like specialty restaurants, as is the case of Sun Princess).

It's a stark contrast to the high-end cruise industry, where all-inclusivity is often considered the standard.

For example, luxury cruise line Explora Journey's fare includes alcoholic beverages, WiFi, and access to the spa — amenities that would typically cost extra on ships like Sun Princess. On Regent Seven Seas , all this, plus excursions, pre-cruise hotels, and roundtrip flights are also included in the cost to sail.

Related stories

Over the last few years, Princess has begun following in these high-end cruise lines' foosteps.

In 2022, it launched Princess Premier, an optional inclusive package covering amenities like WiFi, drinks, some upcharged restaurants, and workout classes. It's the same package Sanctuary Collection guests would get, along with the private restaurant and adult-only lounge with cabanas, a pool, and private events.

The exclusive lounge concept is nothing new. Royal Caribbean's two largest cruise liners have a "neighborhood" exclusive to suite guests. The same applies to Norwegian, Celebrity, and MSC Cruises' vessels.

However, while these competing retreats offer perks like drink packages, WiFi, or private restaurants, none are as "inclusive" as Princess'.

In 2024, Sun Princess' Sanctuary cabins start at more than $3,000 per person for a weeklong Caribbean cruise in mid-December. To compare, the cheapest interior cabin for the same itinerary starts shy of $700 per person.

The cruise line says its next ship, Star Princess, which will debut in late September 2025, will also carry the Sanctuary Collection.

Following in the footsteps of high-end, all-inclusive cruise lines could be a wise decision for Princess. These luxury vacations at sea have become increasingly popular as travelers continue to spend big on their trips.

Like Princess, expedition cruise company HX recently shifted to an all-inclusive model as well.

Back on dry land, hotel giants like Hyatt and Marriott have also seen a boom in these "everything free" resorts .

Apparently, every vacationer — whether on water or solid ground — just wants one thing: stress-free poolside lounging with bottomless drinks.

15 top adults-only cruises for 2025 & 2026.

Pack your bags and leave the kids behind for your next cruise adventure.

Top Adults-Only Cruises

If your idea of getting away from it all includes a vacation without the kids, consider booking an adults-only or adults-oriented cruise . While some lines provide a fully adults-only experience (i.e., children are not allowed on board), others offer adult-focused venues and activities on the ship to keep you separate from younger patrons.

The following cruise lines provide upscale amenities, immersive excursions, sophisticated dining options, lively nighttime entertainment and time for relaxation among like-minded – and similarly aged – travelers.

Find your perfect cruise

Viking Ocean Cruises

Travelers ages 18 and older are welcome aboard Viking 's adults-only ships, which feature destination-focused itineraries around the world. The line's 11 oceangoing ships carry between 930 and 998 guests (at double occupancy) and offer luxurious, comfortable Scandinavian-style spaces. The line will add Viking Vesta to its ocean fleet in 2025.

Viking's exploration program boasts special access to behind-the-scenes experiences curated for travelers who are interested in history, food, the arts or science. Immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to a traditional family farm near Bergen, Norway, or spend an evening dining on Chinese specialties at a home-hosted dinner in Shanghai .

In addition to these off-the-beaten-path excursions, guests can visit iconic sites like the ancient city of Ephesus (Kuşadasi) in Turkey and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece . Viking also hosts onboard enrichment programs like cooking classes and lectures by historians. Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations with a private veranda, all meals (including specialty dining venues), wine and beer at onboard lunch and dinner, 24-hour room service, one free excursion per port, complimentary Wi-Fi access, and access to onboard amenities such as the Nordic Spa and fitness center.

In addition to its ocean vessels, Viking offers river cruises in destinations around the world – including Mississippi River cruises aboard Viking Mississippi. The line also has two Polar Class 6 expedition ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, which traverse waterways from Canada, the U.S. and South America to remote destinations in Antarctica and the Arctic.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages offers an adults-only retreat for guests ages 18 and older. The line currently has three sister ships: Scarlet Lady (the first in the fleet), Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady . The line's fourth ship, Brilliant Lady, is set to debut in September 2025.

All the ships in this adults-only cruise line feature 1,404 cabins (most with balconies) and RockStar Quarters suites, where guests have access to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive outdoor deck space. The superyacht-inspired vessels boast 20-plus eateries, including restaurants by Michelin-starred chefs, and a variety of onboard fitness and wellness spaces. At Redemption Spa, relax and recharge in the mud room or salt therapy chamber – and then take rejuvenating dips in the hot and cold plunge pools. You can even order a bottle of bubbly anywhere on the ship via the Virgin Voyages app's secret "Shake for Champagne" feature.

Itineraries on Virgin Voyages span destinations in the Caribbean, Europe and Morocco, as well as trans-Atlantic crossings. The line will also feature 21 new ports across its global fleet in 2025, including destinations in Iceland, Turkey, Oman, Italy, Portugal, the Cayman Islands and more. Cruise fares cover meals at all the dining venues and basic beverages such as soda, water, tea and coffee. Gratuities for the crew, Wi-Fi access, entertainment and group fitness classes are also included. While on board, be sure to indulge in a swanky dinner at The Wake and an immersive show at The Red Room, a unique multiform theater at sea.

P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises ship at port at sunset.

Courtesy of P&O Cruises

Two ships in P&O Cruises' U.K.-based fleet – Arcadia and Aurora – are exclusively for adults 18 and older. Arcadia, the slightly newer of the two ships (debuted in 2005), carries 2,094 guests at double occupancy, plus 866 crew. The ship departs from Southampton in the U.K. and sails to a variety of European destinations, ranging from Spain and the Canary Islands to Norway and Iceland; some cruises visit the U.S. and Canada. The ship will also sail world cruises in January 2025 and 2026.

Arcadia's 15 restaurants, cafes and bars include Indian cuisine with a British twist at Sindhu, as well as steaks and seafood by renowned British chef Marco Pierre White at Ocean Grill. Passengers can take a class to sample the line's branded gins; sip Champagne at Intermezzo, the ship's cocktail and Champagne venue; or enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif at the yacht-inspired Spinnaker. After exploring exciting ports of call, head back on board to enjoy Arcadia's elegant interiors and top-notch service. You can splurge on a stone therapy treatment and a visit to the thermal suite at the spa for some extra pampering, followed by a live show at the three-tiered theater, The Palladium. Then, finish off the evening dancing the night away at The Globe.

Aurora is a slightly more intimate ship, carrying 1,874 passengers (double occupancy) and 850 crew members. A four-level atrium gallery sits at the heart of the vessel. Itineraries include destinations in the Mediterranean, the Baltic, the British Isles, Iceland, the Caribbean and South America. There are 19 restaurants, bars and cafes on the ship, including club-style restaurant Alexandria and casual spots like The Beach House. After dinner, live entertainment and dancing await you at the show lounge Carmen's, as do larger productions at the ritzy 660-seat Curzon Theatre.

Top Cruises Designed for Adults

While some all-inclusive – or mostly all-inclusive – boutique and luxury cruise lines are family-friendly, many of the onboard venues and activities are adult-by-design. Since there are few (or no) activities geared toward younger cruisers and no babysitting services, you typically won't find parents with young children on these ships.

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships provide immersive travel experiences geared toward adults. These smaller ships – accommodating a maximum of 702 guests – sail waterways and rivers that larger ships can't access, docking in city centers and unique ports of call around the globe.

Many Azamara voyages also offer longer stays and overnights in port, unlike some competitors' itineraries. Some even feature special events, such as a 12-night voyage from Rome to watch the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2025, or a 25-night cruise in February 2025 from Buenos Aires, Argentina , to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro . In addition, the line is extending its offerings on Country Intensive voyages in 2024 and 2025 with itineraries in various continental European countries, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Iceland and Australia.

On board, you'll find a wide selection of casual and formal dining options ranging from Windows Cafe to the main dining room, Discoveries Restaurant. Specialty restaurant offerings include top-notch steak and seafood at Prime C and Italian fare at Aqualina. Atlas Bar is a unique venue on Azamara Onward (the line's newest ship), though its artisanal cocktail menu is also available on the line's other ships. Discoveries Lounge is another guest-favorite spot, and wine aficionados will enjoy pairing limited-production and rare vintages from the Wine Cellar with dinner.

Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations; select spirits, wine and beer; gratuities; 24-hour room service; and nonalcoholic beverages. You'll also have access to complimentary AzAmazing Celebrations with special evening and daytime events ashore and on the ship. You can purchase a package that includes additional amenities like unlimited Wi-Fi, specialty dining, shore excursion credits and other perks. Butler service and other extras come with suite accommodations.

When it launched in 2019, Scenic Eclipse I was touted as "The World's First Discovery Yacht." The intimate vessel offers an all-inclusive, ultra-luxurious experience for just 228 guests (double occupancy). The line's second luxury yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, which is nearly identical to its sister ship, debuted from Lisbon, Portugal , in April 2023. The Polar Class 6 rating enables these two yachts to sail to destinations like Antarctica; on these expedition-style voyages, the ship carries only 200 guests and offers a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio.

All suite accommodations include a private veranda or terrace; butler service; state-of-the-art amenities; a king-size Scenic Slumber Bed; and an in-suite minibar stocked with wine, spirits and other personally selected beverages. You'll also find indulgences like onboard helicopters for intimate excursions and the line's submersibles for underwater exploration.

Guests can enjoy up to 10 dining experiences on the ship, including French fine dining at Lumière; innovative Asian flavors at Koko's Asian Fusion; Italian, steak and seafood specialties at Elements; or an immersive dining experience at Chef's Garden @ Epicure. When it's time for an after-dinner drink, sample craft cocktails or the impressive selection of whiskeys available at Scenic Lounge Bar. Other onboard activities include getting an invigorating treatment at Senses Spa or just relaxing with Champagne and spectacular views on deck 10 at the Sky Bar.

Scenic's ships sail to destinations in Australia and the South Pacific; Europe and the Mediterranean; Asia; the Americas and the Caribbean; and the polar regions of Antarctica and the Arctic.

Guests can try Seabourn's new Mediterranean venue, Solis, on four of the line's ships, including Ovation. You'll also find health and wellness programs curated by Dr. Andrew Weil.

The Seabourn Conversations program is another highlight. Accomplished experts host adventures ashore, participate in meals and chat with guests on board. Celebrity Cruises offers spaces created with adult guests in mind. On Celebrity Beyond and the newest addition to the fleet, Celebrity Ascent , adults can have a unique dining experience at Le Voyage by Daniel Boulud. The Edge series World Class Bar – a popular spot on other Celebrity Cruises ships – features craft cocktails in a beautiful setting. And don't miss the two-story Sunset Bar on Celebrity Ascent, a reimagined space by interior designer and TV personality Nate Berkus. Spellbound by Magic Castle is an exciting new venue aboard the line's newest ship, Sun Princess, for adults 21 and older. The collaboration with The Magic Castle private club in Hollywood offers guests an evening of magic, illusions and theatrical cocktails in a Victorian-inspired space.

If you're heading off the ship for an excursion to Princess Cays (the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas), plan to chill out for the day in an adults-only Sanctuary Bungalow. You can also order a gourmet picnic to enjoy while lounging on shore.

Back on the ship, adults can reserve a spot for the line's new Winemaker Dinners, a partnership with Caymus Vineyards. Depending on the ship, adult travelers can also dance the night away in a trendy club, watch live entertainment or a cabaret show, catch a sports game on satellite TV, or relax with an after-dinner cocktail at a bar or lounge. Outdoors, the kid-free Quiet Cove Pool is a tranquil place to relax on all the ships. For even more pampering, Senses Spa & Salon boasts treatment rooms with ocean views, luxurious spa villas and other amenities. On Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line 's private island, adults can head to Serenity Bay – a scenic, adults-only stretch of the beach.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Norwegian Cruise Line has three adults-only outdoor venues for guests 18 and older (though specific spaces vary by ship). On Norwegian 's Bliss, Escape, Getaway and Breakaway ships, the Vibe Beach Club sun deck invites guests to relax in oversized hot tubs and comfy daybeds, adding perks like a full-service bar and chilled towels. Guests can enjoy two-story beach clubs on Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Encore, while the clubs on Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva include the line's first infinity hot tubs. You can purchase a multiday pass in advance for the club, and cabana rentals are available for more privacy.

At Norwegian Epic's two-level Posh Beach Club, complimentary perks include fruit skewers, cold water spritzers and a snack menu. Multiday passes are available to all adult cruisers, while travelers who book a Haven suite can access Posh Beach Club for free. Spice H2O is another adults-only venue on the Norwegian Bliss, Joy, Escape, Getaway, Breakaway, Epic, Star and Spirit vessels; access is complimentary. At night, the space becomes an open-air dance club where you can spend the evening partying under the stars.

Royal Caribbean International

Solarium is Royal Caribbean International 's complimentary, child-free space open to guests 18 and older. Located at the front of every ship in the fleet, this indoor-outdoor oasis (or indoor-only on Quantum Class ships) offers impressive vistas and endless views of the sea. Thanks to a full glass canopy over the interior space, adult passengers can enjoy quiet lounging areas, swimming pools and whirlpool tubs with a view, no matter the weather. Select ships feature a cascading lagoon for further relaxation.

Be sure to grab a tropical cocktail or zero-proof drink at Solarium Bar (or Sunshine Bar, on Quantum ships) to sip poolside while enjoying the ocean vistas. Guests of both bars must be at least 21 years old when sailing from North America or a minimum of 18 when departing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Adult cruisers (18 and older) can relax and chill out at the first suspended infinity pool at sea at The Hideaway on Royal Caribbean's newest ship, Icon of the Seas. The beach-vibe neighborhood, perched eight stories above the sea at the back of the ship, features Champagne cocktails, a DJ spinning tunes, full-size daybeds, a wraparound bar, and endless ocean and sunset views from the multilevel terrace.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Adults-only cruise ships – or adults-only spaces on cruise ships – have become increasingly popular over the years," says Chris Gray Faust, executive editor at Cruise Critic. "That's not only because fewer people are having families. It's also because parents themselves often want the chance to get away, either by themselves for a romantic trip or with friends to celebrate a special occasion, girls' or guys' weekend, or milestone birthdays."

"I seek out adult spaces on cruise ships primarily because I want my experience on a ship to mirror my life on land – a little quieter, with more sophisticated food and drink options," she explains. "I also appreciate the opportunity to connect with my friends who are parents in a space where we can have personal one-on-one conversations or let loose a bit with some drinks. Adults with children are more than just their kids, after all – and they also appreciate a space where they don't have to worry about their little ones."

Anne Scully, a partner at the luxury travel company EMBARK Beyond, says, "With so many cruise lines and sailings, it's always a good idea to have options – and adults-only cruises are very popular." She adds, "Viking and Virgin have always focused on adults-only cruises and most river cruises also cater to adult passengers."

Adults-only cruises are designed with guests ages 18 and older in mind, from the staterooms and dining venues to the onboard entertainment and shore excursions. What you typically won't find on board are water or theme parks, climbing walls, game rooms, and restaurants serving kid-friendly foods.

If you're looking for a relaxing, fun and romantic vacation without the kids in tow – and you don't want to deal with the other passengers' children on your getaway – consider booking a sailing specifically for cruisers at least 18 years old. Alternatively, select a cruise line or ship that caters to mostly adults and doesn't offer any services, kids clubs, babysitting or activities for children.

You don't have to be a kid to be a Disney Cruise Line fan. While the line does not have an adults-only vessel within the fleet, there are plenty of kid-free spaces for adults only. Adults can enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment in several venues and relax at designated pool areas on the ship. There's also private, adults-only stretch of beach, Serenity Bay, on the line's private island, Castaway Cay.

In addition, Disney offers one of the best programs to keep youngsters entertained at sea, so you'll find that many of the children hang out in the kids club during the day and in the evening. These club spaces are divided by age groups, and they're typically open until midnight or 1 a.m. so parents – and even adults without kids – can enjoy a night out on the ship sans kids.
