  • Golden Tours offers a river cruise pass which is valid for 24 hours. When you plan your itinerary make sure to activate it according to when you might use it to the maximum. The best thing about the pass is that it works like a hop-on and hop-off pass, you can get on and off as many times you want.
  • Make sure to pre-book tickets and check the holiday schedule for the attractions. Golden Tours has online maps that will help you plan your journey in advance.
  • If you are short on time, the best way to soak in all the sights is to take a round loop of the Grand Tour or the Orange Tour. It covers all the main tourist attractions in London except for the museum quarter.
  • Golden Tours HOHO has an exclusive treasure hunt app that will allow you to collect points as you travel across the city. At the end of your journey, you can redeem the points for discounts, freebies, and other gifts.
  • The top deck seats are much in demand and if you are looking forward to completing a loop it is best to board the bus at the first point of departure, as you can get the seat of your choice. Also, remember that buses drive on the right side of the road and you will get better views if you seat on the right side of the bus.

Golden Tours compared with Tootbus & Big Bus

When it comes to coverage in London, all three hop-on hop-off bus operations visit the same areas and major attractions in the city.

Live Guides:

Golden Tours is the only company that offers a regular service with live guides, but this is not a hop-on-hop-off bus. Instead, it is a fixed 90-minute tour, priced similarly to the hop-on bus.

Commentaries:

All three companies use pre-recorded commentaries for their hop-on bus services, though the number of languages offered may vary. However, during special promotional periods, Tootbus sometimes provides a special service with an expert live guide. These tours operate on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be guaranteed (though they run hourly).

Ticket Durations:

All operators offer tickets valid for 24 and 48 hours. Tootbus and Golden Tours also offer 72-hour tickets. Additionally, Tootbus offers a 1.5-hour Bar Bus ticket, while Golden Tours has a fully guided 1.5-hour Express ticket.

Evening Tours:

All three operators offer evening tours. Big Bus includes a separate evening tour with their Premium and Deluxe tickets. For more details, please visit their respective websites.

Walking Tours:

Golden Tours and Big Bus offer professionally guided walking tours included with selected tickets. Golden Tours offers the Jack The Ripper Walking Tour or Coronation Walking Tour. Big Bus offers three free tours with their Essential and Explore tickets: Changing of the Guard Walking Tour, City of London Walking Tour, and Jack the Ripper Walking Tour. Each tour lasts 1.5 hours. Big Bus currently offers a Royal-themed hop-on bus tour called “A Big Royal Adventure” along with a 45-minute Royal Walking Tour. Tootbus does not offer guided walking tours but provides the option to download “Tootwalk” to your phone, which includes three self-guided walks.

River Cruises:

Two different river cruise operators, City Cruises and Thames River Sightseeing, are used. Golden Tours and Tootbus offer tickets without the river cruise, making them cheaper. All Big Bus tickets include the river cruise. Please note that river cruises are one-way only.

Add-on Attractions or Alternative Tours:

Golden Tours offers a range of attractions as add-ons to the basic 4-hour hop-on bus ticket. Discount London allows you to purchase discounted bundles of Big Bus tickets and top London attractions. Through the Big Bus official website, you can also add-on tickets for Madame Tussauds, Tower of London, and London Eye Fast Track. Tootbus does not currently offer add-on attractions but provides alternative tours such as a Windsor hop-on bus tour and a popular Kids tour.

An opportunity to travel in time and experience the medieval towns of the Russian province

Golden Ring Tours Immerse in Russian heritage, architectural masterpieces & stunning landscapes.

Golden ring tours overview.

Our Golden Ring Tours take place close to Russia's capital Moscow, yet seemingly a world away, adventuring to the beautifully preserved ancient cities of the Golden Ring route is a must. The cities of the Golden Ring are perfect destinations for travellers seeking the idyllic, provincial Mother Russia of old. A must short detour when Visiting Moscow. Scattered across a rural landscape of rolling hills, flower blanketed meadows, rivers and streams. The cities of the Golden Ring were considered political backwaters by the time Soviet industrialisation took hold, escaping much of the urban progress that rapidly engulfed Moscow and its surroundings. Consequently, many locals to the Golden Ring still lead a largely traditional existence, living in tight-knit communities where the ancestral izba (wooden farmhouse) is the centre of daily life.

 Golden Ring Russia, Travel Highlights:

  • Regarded as open-air museums, be enthralled by many of the Golden Ring’s ancient settlements and architectural masterpieces . These include the UNESCO-listed monasteries and onion-dome cathedrals in Yaroslavl, the white stone monuments of Vladimir (the Golden Gates, the church of Boris and Gleb), and the medieval wooden houses and windmills in Suzdal.
  • Our Golden Ring Tours facilitate immersion in the colourful culture of provincial Russia. Towns such as Ivanovo and Kostroma still maintain a largely traditional way of life. When you visit the Golden ring, be sure to try the delicious traditional Russian cuisine, admire time-honoured handicrafts and unearth ancient relics of the Soviet times.
  • Discover the sacred places of the orthodox religion at their many cathedrals, churches and historical monuments like the Trinity Lavra of Saint Sergius, the Holy Assumption Cathedral and the Cathedral of Transformation.
  • Uncover the age-old allure of Russia by delving into the rich history and legends of the Golden Ring. From Russian princes and knights to the early Tsars and Mongol invasions, you will experience something straight out of a fairytale.
  • Admire the stunning natural landscapes of the Golden Ring dominated by rippling meadows, lush green forests and winding rivers used to link fortified towns in the middle ages.

Many Golden Ring cities date back to at least the 10th century, and played a vital role in Medieval history, associated with the formation of the Russian Orthodox Church, the reign of Tsars and the Mongol Invasions. When you go on a Golden Ring tour, you will notice that virtually every town is a living museum, made up of ancient forts, towering monasteries, imposing palaces and magnificent cathedrals. Recognised for their artistic merit as an important place in history, four sites on the Golden Ring circuit have gained UNESCO World Heritage Site status, including the 1,000-year-old city of Yaroslavl.

On this tour you will visit both Moscow and St. Petersburg. Russia’s greatest museums, monuments and other highlights are located in these two cities. Start discovering Russia in vibrant and expressive Moscow and end your trip with a visit to St. Petersburg, the splendid “Northern Venice” considered by many to be the most beautiful city in Europe. Saint Petersburg was the Tsarist capital of the Russian Empire for more than two hundred years, until the capital was moved back to Moscow in 1918. Explore the difference between both of these beautiful and exciting cities and contrast them with the peace and tranquility of the Golden Ring.

Day 1, Moscow

Moscow, Russia

Arrival in Moscow, our representative will meet you at the airport. Arrival transfer without guide. Accommodation at the hotel.

Moscow is the capital and the largest city in Russia as well as the largest metropolitan area in Europe with a population well over 10 million. This amazing city has served as the capital of the Soviet Union, the Russian Empire and the Grand Duchy of Moscow. Moscow has had a tumultuous history dating back to medieval times when it was founded by Prince Yuri Dolgoruki (Yuri of the Long Arms, known for the length of his arms!) in the early 12th century. It has seen numerous invasions and sieges from the Mongols to the Poles and Lithuanians to the Crimean Tatars to Napoleon and finally the Nazi's but it has persevered and today is a thriving metropolis. The city is filled with unique architecture from the Kremlin and Red Square to giant Stalin skyscrapers to new office blocks built during the economic boom of recent years and it contains a strikingly beautiful metro system. The city is the center of political as well as economic power in Russia and visitors can feel the energy in the streets. There is always something going on in Moscow and there is so much to see. Your tour will give you valuable insights into Russia's history, its art and most importantly its culture and people. Welcome to Moscow, we are sure you will have an unforgettable stay with us!

Day 2, Moscow

Gorky Leninskiye, Moscow region, Russia

09:30 Our guide will meet you at the hotel's reception desk. Excursion outside of Moscow to Gorki Leninskie, lunch included. In the afternoon you will have a 3-hour city sightseeing tour with photo stops, no entrances included.

Gorky Leninskiye  is an architectural and park ensemble dating back to the 18 th and 19 th centuries. The estate changed owners several times before it was nationalized in 1918, after the revolution. At that time, the neoclassical mansion, the heart of the ensemble, was turned into a sanatorium for the higher echelons of the Bolshevik Party. The estate became especially famous due to the fact that Lenin spent the last ten months of his life here with his wife and siblings. After his death, the estate was turned into a museum and it was extremely popular with Soviet citizens until the fall of the Soviet Union.

Day 3, Moscow

Kremlin

09:00 check out of hotel with luggage.10:00 tour of Kremlin Grounds and Armory. 14:30 transfer to railway station. Departure to Vladimir by day train (15:30-17:19 hrs). Transfer to Suzdal and accommodation at hotel. Dinner at hotel.

The Kremlin is a fascinating structure, it is an ancient tower, the city's former military fortification, a palace, an armory, the sovereign treasury and the workplace of the Russian President. The Kremlin is the center of Russia's political life and State power and has been home to Tsars, General Secretaries of the Soviet Union and Russian Presidents. The Kremlin has always been the spiritual centre of Russia. You will see several ancient cathedrals on its territory the most famous of which are the  Assumption Cathedral , the Archangel's Cathedral and the Annunciation Cathedral.

Day 4, Suzdal and Vladimir

Suzdal, Russia

09:00 city tour of Suzdal including Kremlin grounds, Cross-vaulted Chamber, Cathedral of the Nativity, Spaso-Efimievsky Monastery with bell ringing. Museum of Wooden Architecture in summer and Gold Room in winter. Lunch. City tour of Vladimir with visits to Assumption or St. Demetrius Cathedral, Museum of Lacquer Miniatures. Bogolubovo . Dinner. Departure to St. Petersburg by night train (23:00- 09:45), 1st class, 2-berth compartments.

Vladimir  is the former capital of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality founded in the 12th century, located 179 kilometers to the east of Moscow. There are many interesting sights, old churches, monasteries and museums in the city. A little information on Vladimir. There is a dispute about the founding date of the city, either 990 or 1108 but regardless, the city's most significant events occurred during the 12th century. Under Yuri Dolgoruky´s son, Andrei Bogolyubsky (1157-1175), Vladimir prospered becoming the center of the Vladimir-Suzdal Principality. The city's Golden Age is considered to be from the early 12th century until the Mongol invasion in 1237 during which the Golden Gates and the Cathedral of the Assumption were constructed. The architecture of Vladimir's white stone cathedrals, towers, and palaces are unique and unlike other buildings in Russia, their exteriorsare elaborately carved with high relief stone sculptures. The decline of Vladimir began when it was attacked and overrun by the Mongol-Tatars in 1238. A great fire destroyed 32 limestone buildings on the first day alone, while the grand prince and all his family perished in a church where they sought refuge from the fire. The bishop of Vladimir managed to escape. Vladimir never fully recovered but from 1299 to 1325, the city was the seat of the metropolitans of Kiev and All Rus until the see was moved to Moscow.

Suzdal  dates back to 1024. In its early history, it was the capital of several principalities and later on became an important religious center. The town is full of churches and at one point in its history had 40 churches for approximately 400 families. Today the town only has a population of around 10,000 and has retained its country village feel with many of the roads remaining unpaved and livestock roaming the streets. The atmosphere is extremely pleasant due to its rustic, country feel combined with its medieval monuments. In short, Suzdal is an extremely special place and we are certain that you will enjoy your time there.

Bogolyubovo  is a small settlement located 10 km north-east of Vladimir. Bogolyubovo was the residence of Prince Andrei Bogolyubsky built between 1158 and 1165 at the mouth of the Nerl River. Andrei spent 17 years of his reign here until his murder in 1174. Russian Orthodox Christians believe that Bogolyubovo was founded on the spot where Andrei Bogolyubsky saw a vision of the Virgin Mary who appeared to him in a dream-like vision holding a scroll in Her right hand, and commanded him to build a church and monastery on the place of the vision. On this spot the Church of the Intercession of Neri was constructed. Today the church is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Day 5, St.Petersburg

Peter and Paul Fortress

10:00 meet guide at railway station. Three-hour city sightseeing tour with photo stops, no entrances included. In the afternoon visit to Peter and Paul Fortress (1,5 hours), check in to hotel. In October-April Day 5 visit to the Hermitage, on day 6 city tour and Peter and Paul Fortress.

St. Petersburg is the former capital of Imperial Russia, home of the Tsars and one of the world's most beautiful and romantic cities. St. Petersburg was founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703 on the banks of the Neva River and the Gulf of Finland. The city has seen its share of historical events including the Decembrist revolt, the palace coup and murder of Tsar Pavel, the intrigues of Catherine the Great, the assassination Tsar Alexander II, the influence of Rasputin on the Russian royal family, the Revolution of 1905 and the October Revolution of 1917 which brought the communists to power. During WWII, the city then known as Leningrad, went through a harrowing two and a half year blockade and siege by the Nazi invaders resulting in the deaths of over 1 million of its citizens. Today, St. Petersburg is Russia's second largest city with a population of over 5 million. It is also known as the center of Russian art, culture and literature - former citizens included Pushkin and Dostoevsky just to name a few. The entire city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is full of beautiful palaces and monuments including the Winter Palace. The city is also known as the Venice of the North because of its location on various islands in the Neva River and its many canals and bridges. St. Petersburg is home to the world famous Hermitage Museum which contains one of the world's largest collections of art including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, Matisse, Picasso as well as many other old masters and impressionists. We are sure that you will find St. Petersburg one of the most if not the most fascinating places you have ever visited. Welcome to this most beautiful and mysterious of cities.

Day 6, St. Petersburg

The Hermitage

09:30 meet guide for visit to Hermitage museum (10:30-13:00)

The Winter Palace, one of the buildings of the  Hermitage Museum  is one of the most wonderful palaces in North Eastern Europe and today is one the world's finest museums. The museum consists of five historical buildings including the  Winter Palace  - the residence of the Russian Tsars. The museum contains over 3 million pieces of art with dates ranging from high antiquity to the present day. Among the Hermitage's treasures are artworks by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Titian, Rembrandt, Rubens as well as many others. We will spend 3 hours at the museum, however, to view the collection in its entirety would take almost 15 years, spending 8 hours a day in the museum and taking one minute to examine each exhibit.

Day 7, St. Petersburg

Peterhof

09:30 Meet guide for out-of-town excursion to Peterhof ( Petrodvorets ).

Peterhof ( Petrodvorets ) is a jewel of Russian art, a town of  parks, palaces and fountains . In the past, it was used as an exquisite summer residence by the Russian Tsars. You will visit the Grand Palace  - the largest and the most famous palace of the residence which was often used for gala receptions. After this you will proceed to the  Lower Park  (Nizhny Park) which is a genuine masterpiece of landscape design. The park is adorned with more than 150 fountains and 4 monumental cascades. There are several small palaces and pavilions on the park’s territory, such as the Monplaisir, Catherine´s Block, Marli, Hermitage, the Bath Block and many more. If you are ready for a walk, you will also enjoy a magnificent view of the  Gulf of Finland

Things To Do

Review: avril lavigne kicks off 2024 shoreline season in uncomplicated fashion, avril lavigne draws huge crowd to mountain view venue.

golden tour stops

It can be straightforward, direct and, alternately, fun and poignant. It can be like overhearing a conversation from the teen next door who is going through some life situations and simply trying to figure things out.

It can be Avril Lavigne.

Thus who scoff at that notion certainly weren’t at the opening night concert of the 2024 Shoreline Amphitheatre season, when Lavigne drew a huge crowd of mostly 30- and 40-somethings who grew up on her songs and who still deeply adore her music.

Not only adore, but clearly feel like her music still speaks to them.

That could be seen — and heard — throughout this delightful Mountain View stop on Lavigne’s Greatest Hits Tour, as thousands sang along with passion and purpose to one likeable number after another. Yet, the moment that really crystalized the whole view came when the singer unleashed the massive 2002 smash “Complicated” and fans got behind every single word like their were belting out the anthem to their lives.

Although it’s been more than a decade since Lavigne had a Top 20 song in the U.S. (“Here’s to Never Growing Up” in 2013), the Canadian star’s continued influence on pop culture should not be denied.

She rose out of a small city in Ontario in 2002 with the full-length debut “Let’s Go” — built from a batch of songs she’d penned as a 16-year old — and proceeded to conquer the world with one bouncy fun tune after another.

She was peddling a radio-friendly pop-punk sound — with a heavy emphasis on the pop — and presenting a down-to-earth young skater-like image that stood in direct contrast to what was being portrayed by the so-called pop princesses of the era. Some labeled her “the anti-Britney,” although Lavigne rejected that title. In all, it’s hard to imagine what the inventory of such teen-focused mall shops like Hot Topic would look like today without Lavigne’s mighty influence.

The testament to that lasting influence came with Tuesday’s giant turnout, which filled up all the seats as well as much of the massive lawn area at Shoreline. (The only unofficial attendance figure I heard was in the 13,000 range, although the crowd felt even bigger.)

Of course, it’s been a long time since Avril was a 17-year-old star sitting on top of the charts — and the world — with her debut album. And she seems perfectly OK with that.

“I’m 39 — 39 and living my best life,” Lavigne said.

That definitely appeared to be the case during this roughly 90-minute Shoreline show, which kicked off with a high-energy version of “Girlfriend” (from 2007’s “The Best Damn Thing”) and quickly continued through “What the Hell,” “Complicated” and “Smile.”

Lavigne’s vocals were as strong as ever — benefitting from the Mountain View stop coming early on in this Greatest Hits tour — as she led the crowd in sing-alongs of “My Happy Ending,” “He Wasn’t” and “Don’t Tell Me.”

She’d touch upon all seven of her studio albums — including the most recent offering, 2022’s “Love Sux” — during the 17-song set. Yet — befitting the Greatest Hits Tour moniker — the show drew most strongly from the early blockbuster albums, “Let’s Go” and “Under My Skin,” both of which have been certified multiplatinum.

It was unfussy pop-punk pretty much from start to finish, with a bit of straightforward rock (particularly on “He Wasn’t”), without much in the way of special effects or production elements to sell it. Mainly, it was just Lavigne singing and chatting to the crowd, backed by a solid five-piece band.

One of the more fun moments came when she called out Alex Gaskarth and Jack Barakat — from one of the evening’s opening acts, All Time Low — to perform with her onstage. They’d rip through “Fake as Hell,” the collaboration with Lavigne featured on All Time Low’s 2023 album, “Tell Me I’m Alive.”

After that All Time Low highlight, Lavigne kept the party right on rolling along as such closed up the main set with such favorites as “Love It When You Hate Me” and “Sk8er Boi,” before returning to finish out the night with a two-song encore of “Head Above Water” and “I’m With You.”

UC Santa Cruz tells pro-Palestinian protesters to stop blocking entrances

Uc santa cruz still remote learning.

UC Santa Cruz continues remote learning due to campu strike.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - UC Santa Cruz will continue to offer only remote learning on Wednesday and Thursday because of a campus strike and protest that's been going on for a week.

On Tuesday, UC Santa Cruz officials called on the demonstrators to leave the main and west entrances.

They said the protest is preventing employees and students from getting onto campus and blocking the childcare center.

Protesters have thrown rocks and debris into the road, which they also splashed with red paint.

Union academic workers on the three campuses said they're upset about how university leaders have responded to pro-Palestinian protests.

"It is a hard decision to go on strike," said UC David PhD student Ximena Anleu, who is also the UAW 4811 vice president.

She too, is supposed to walk in her own graduation.

An estimated 12,000 union employees are walking the picket lines at UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis and UCLA.

The strike is causing frustration among some students who say it's led to research delays and withheld grades as they're getting ready for finals.

The UC Office of the President calls the strike illegal saying that its contract with the union includes a no-strike provision.
