Fisherman’s friends, the musical: new theatre cardiff.

As the world premiere production of Fisherman’s Friends:The Musical embarks on a UK and Ireland tour, director James Grieve promises audiences are in store for “a feel-good, foot-stomping, sea shanty musical telling the astonishing story of the world’s least likely boyband”.

Grieve is in no doubt as to why the musical, with its mix of comedy and drama, was so rapturously received in Truro and why it is sure to captivate audiences around the country. “It’s so heart-warming to see a group of very normal, humble people achieve something extraordinary,” he says of the tale of a bunch of fishermen who come together to sing traditional working songs to raise money for charity, never expecting to land a record deal and end up performing at the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.

“The real Fisherman’s Friends are ordinary blokes who work hard as fishermen, farmers, builders and shopkeepers. We all see ourselves in them. They never sought fame and fortune but it found them and their remarkable talent, and it’s wonderful when good people get justly rewarded. That’s what makes this story so uplifting. But more than a story about finding fame and fortune it’s a story about friendship, loyalty, community and the unbreakable ties that bind us, and it is full of humour.”

There’s also a life-size boat on stage, with the director adding: “We wanted to capture the hard graft and very real danger of life as a working fisherman at the mercy of stormy weather and rough seas. I’m fortunate to be working with a world-class team of creatives who have summoned howling winds, towering waves and vicious storms through dazzling design, lighting, sound, choreography and music.”

As in the film, the audience discovers the Fisherman’s Friends through the eyes of Danny, a music manager who stumbles into Port Isaac and finds his life transformed by the village, the band and the songs.

There are 37 musical numbers in the show, including most of the songs from the film and many more besides, with the singers accompanied by seven folk musicians who between them play around 40 instruments. “And the band are stunning,” James enthuses. “You get a cappella performances, then the counterpoints when the musicians join in.”

The actor describes Jim as a man for whom his boat, his crew and singing with his mates are his life. And Gaddas feels there’s a universality to the characters, noting: “These are people you can relate to and we all want that magic moment when things turn around for everyday people doing everyday jobs. It’s like a kid playing football in the park and a scout just happens to be there. It’s something unexpected suddenly happening to the underdog.”

Robert Duncan plays Jim’s father Jago, who is in his 70s and the elder statesman of the group. Born in the Cornish town of St Austell, Duncan didn’t hesitate to say yes to the show. “It’s set in a place I know very well,” he says, “and I was excited about doing something from my own neck of the woods. It’s like me paying homage, plus I’d never done a musical before.”

The star of Drop The Dead Donkey has toured in Twelve Angry Men and Rehearsal for Murder. How is he finding singing the sea shanties? Robert laughs. “It’s certainly not water off a duck’s back but David White, our music supervisor and arranger, told me ‘We don’t want the most wonderful voices in the world, these are fishermen, so do it as you believe working people would sing’. I did sing in choirs when I was younger but before this I’d never have had the confidence to sing a song on stage. Somehow this felt like the right time and when I was given the opportunity I grasped it with both hands.”

Duncan believes audiences around the country are going to love the songs in the show. “The a cappella group, which I feel privileged to be a part of, creates such a strong sound and it touches people. There’s a lot of emotion in this play and it’s not just a cappella, we also have the folk band who are so talented they can play anything. They become a part of the community on stage, wondering around with harps and double basses.”

Playing Jago’s wife Maggie is Susan Penhaligon, who was also raised in Cornwall and says: “There’s an old phrase ‘Cornish women be brave and stubborn’ and that’s what Maggie is. Her roots are in Cornwall and she’s typical in that she’s independent, free-thinking and tough. I love her and I feel like I know her.”

Having lived in St Ives and Falmouth from age six until she went to boarding school in Bristol when she was 11, Penhaligon adds: “ Fisherman’s Friends is a Cornish story and they don’t come along very often. As far as I’m concerned, we’re exporting the right kind of Cornish culture rather than bobbing boats, pasties and jam and cream on scones. It’s not the picture postcard image, it’s the real Cornwall.”

Asked if she can relate to Maggie as a character, she laughs. “Yes because I think I’m also brave and stubborn.” And she agrees the story will resonate around the country. “It’s has a truth to it and it’s about history. There’s something basic and organic about it that touches people and the music is fantastic.”

The actress came to fame in Bouquet of Barbed Wire and is known for A Fine Romance and Emmerdale on TV and a variety of stage roles including Three Sisters and Of Mice and Men . Fisherman’s Friends is only her second musical, after she played Fräulein Schneider in the 2017 tour of Cabaret . “And I’ve never been so terrified in my life,” she recalls of singing on stage for the first time, “but by the end of the run they couldn’t get me off the stage.” She laughs. “When it comes to the singing, I’m an actress who gets away with it.”

Adapting the story for the stage, Amanda Whittington points out: “It’s a fascinating world to explore and discover. Port Isaac and the fisherman’s way of life is rich territory for drama and the characters are funny, real and recognisable.

“Then of course there’s the sea shanties, which are beautiful and timeless. The traditional shanties are the backbone of the story but there’s also contemporary songs of the sea and wonderful new songs written especially for the show.”

The writer, whose previous stage adaptations include Saturday Night and Sunday Morning and Tipping the Velvet , is seeking to strike a balance between fact and fiction, explaining:  I love the fact it’s about a real place and time, yet it’s full of mythical and magical elements. It’s about making sure we stay true to the original fishermen’s story but embracing the possibilities theatre brings.”

As for what she hopes audiences will take away from seeing it, Amanda says: “Times are tough and we want Fisherman’s Friends to be a joyous and life-affirming experience for all. It’s a story about the place you call home, whatever and wherever that is. I also think you’ll be literally taking the songs away in your head and heart. Once heard, they’re never forgotten.”

PREVIEW, FISHERMAN’S FRIENDS: THE MUSICAL, NEW THEATRE CARDIFF

This is a syndicated interview for Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical, which is performing at the New Theatre Cardiff from 25-29 Oct 2022. Stars Robert Duncan, James Gaddas, Susan Penhaligon, along with director James Grieve and writer Amanda Whittington, discuss why it’s the ultimate feel-good show.

As the world premiere production of Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical embarks on a UK and Ireland tour, director James Grieve promises audiences are in store for “a feel-good, foot stomping, sea shanty musical telling the astonishing story of the world’s least likely boyband”.

Based on the true story of the Cornish singing sensations and the smash hit 2019 film about them, the show has already played to packed houses at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro – where it broke box office records as the most successful production in the venue’s history.

But more than a story about finding fame and fortune it’s a story about friendship, loyalty, community and the unbreakable ties that bind us, and it is full of humour.”

The multi-level set designed by Lucy Osborne recreates the fishing village of Port Isaac, including the famous Golden Lion pub where the lads first begin singing over a few pints, as well as the Atlantic ocean and locations in London.

Starring as Jim, the group’s lead singer, James Gaddas is no stranger to musicals. He’s known for Bad Girls and Hollyoaks on TV but he’s also been in the likes of Billy Elliot, Spamalot and Mamma Mia! on stage. “But I’ve never done anything like this before. It’s earthy and visceral. The music is strong and grounded. It dates back as long as 200 years ago, with the fishermen adapting it for today but staying true to those roots.”

There are 37 musical numbers in the show, including most of the songs from the film and many more besides, with the singers accompanied by seven folk musicians who between them play around 40 instruments. “And the band are stunning,” James enthuses. “You get a cappella performances, then the counterpoints when the musicians join in.”

I did sing in choirs when I was younger but before this I’d never have had the confidence to sing a song on stage. Somehow this felt like the right time and when I was given the opportunity I grasped it with both hands.”

The story, he believes, is in many ways specific to Cornwall yet it has a universal appeal. “Some of the things in it are peculiarly Cornish but the idea of how the landscape shapes people is true wherever you go. Plus it’s about community and getting through things together, which is now more relevant than ever.”

Duncan believes audiences around the country are going to love the songs in the show. “The a cappella group, which I feel privileged to be a part of, creates such a strong sound and it touches people. Fisherman’s Friends

Part of Folk

They have nine albums to their name, two feature films, a stage musical, a book, a TV documentary, they’ve played for royalty and to tens of thousands of fans in sell-out tours year in year out… No, it’s not The Beatles, it’s not Slade, Take That or One Direction – it’s The Fisherman’s Friends!

“We can’t wait to get out and about and sing live for our supper again – we love it,”  says extravagantly moustachioed founding member and bass man Jon Cleave.

A decade ago, The Fisherman’s Friends were persuaded to sign a million-pound record deal that saw their album  Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends  go Gold as they became the first ever traditional folk act to land a UK top ten album.

And thanks to the small film with a big heart that shares their name, the story of the original Cornish ‘buoy band’ is known around the world – bound by shared experience, for more than 30 years they have gathered on the Platt on the harbour in their native Port Isaac to sing the songs of the sea, songs that in some cases have been handed down for hundreds of years, songs that connect them to generations of Cornish fishermen that have come before them.

The film’s sequel  Fisherman’s Friends 2  is released this June (2022) .  The story follows the group from the highs of starring on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, through the lows of struggling to make a follow-up album.

Based on the first film,  Fisherman’s Friends: The Musical  broke all box office records when it premiered at Hall For Cornwall last year. It is set to tour the nation’s theatres from 1st September 2022, opening in Plymouth, before visiting Birmingham, Cheltenham, Salford, Milton Keynes, Newcastle, Dublin, Cardiff, Bath and Leeds.

The Fisherman’s Friends are lobster fisherman  Jeremy Brown , writer/ shopkeeper  Jon Cleave , smallholder and engineer  John ‘Lefty’ Lethbridge , builder  John McDonnell  (a Yorkshireman who visited Port Isaac more than 30 years ago and never left), Padstow fisherman  Jason Nicholas , filmmaker  Toby Lobb  and the new boy, former ambulance driver  Pete Hicks .

fisherman's friends tour cardiff

It's the thing everyone has been talking about all week and excitement around the Oasis reunion is now at fever pitch with the launch of the pre-sale on Friday night as some fans rushed to celebrate, while others were stuck in huge online queues. And, like with every big tour these days, there has already been anger at tickets appearing on re-sale sites for massively inflated prices.

Tuesday morning brought the news that fans had been waiting for, when a statement was released by the Brit pop legends confirming they will be reuniting for a string of UK and Ireland dates next year. Initially, 14 were announced, but that number has since risen to 17, after extra gigs were confirmed for Manchester, London and Edinburgh on Thursday.

It was revealed on Tuesday night that a pre-sale would be happening on Friday, after a delay in fans getting their confirmation emails about the ballot, the pre-sale began at 7pm on August 30, with the lucky fans who've got access getting their e-mails early on Friday afternoon.

And, the bad news for those who didn't was that they were all sent out by 1pm, as the band themselves confirmed on social media.

After the pre-sale ends, general sale will begin at 9am on Saturday for the UK dates and 8am for Ireland. For Oasis tickets keep an eye out on Ticketmaster here , as well as gigsandtours, com and seetickets.com .

A source told The Sun : ‘Noel and Liam and Blossoms have been friends for years and with the band also coming from Manchester asking them to support Oasis was a no-brainer.

Fans have been in a spin since the famously feuding brothers announced their reunion , with tour dates announced for Manchester ,  London ,  Edinburgh ,  Cardiff , and  Dublin .

Pre-sale tickets opened on August 30 at 7pm BST and were soon snapped up by lucky fans who got a magic code in their inbox that gave them the first chance to get them. General admission tickets are set to go on sale at 9am BST today.

However, many dedicated fans were left ticketless and waiting in a queue of thousands as tickets went up for sale on unofficial sites for extortionate costs – some even reaching £10,000.

Oasis issued an official warning to fans, which read: ‘We have noticed people attempting to sell tickets on the secondary market since the start of the pre-sale. Please note, tickets can ONLY be resold, at face value, via @Ticketmaster and @Twickets. Tickets sold in breach of the terms and conditions will be canceled by the promoters.’

Ahead of the pre-sale, Oasis revealed due to ‘unprecedented demand’ three further gigs have been added to the line-up.

The extra dates include a Heaton Park show on July 16, an extra Wembley gig on July 30 and another Edinburgh concert on August 12.

In the band’s home city of Manchester, tickets start from £148.50, with only standing available alongside a number of hospitality and luxury packages.

Prices for a seat to watch the band at London’s Wembley Stadium begin at £74.25, with the most expensive ticket a £506.25 pre-show party, exhibition and seated package.

The cheapest seats are Cardiff’s Principality Stadium shows, which will set you back £73, and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium at £74, according to Manchester-based promoter SJM Concerts, which runs the website Gigs And Tours.

Standing tickets at Wembley will cost fans £151.25, with the same tickets in Cardiff and Edinburgh slightly cheaper at £150 and £151 respectively.

Noel and Liam announced on Tuesday that they had put their acrimonious split behind them, confirming the band’s long-awaited reunion by saying: ‘The great wait is over.’

Oasis tickets for Dublin's Croke Park go on sale as thousands of fans stuck in queuing system

Oasis tickets for Dublin's Croke Park go on sale as thousands of fans stuck in queuing system

Tickets for the band's two Dublin gigs in Croke Park went live on Ticketmaster at 8 am, while tickets for the band's 15 UK shows in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff are set to go on general sale at 9 am.

Oasis ticket-selling websites in Ireland and the UK are experiencing issues on Saturday morning as the band’s reunion tour goes on general sale.

Fans who missed out on pre-sale tickets will attempt to secure their place for the 2025 concerts during the general sale.

Tickets for the band's two Dublin gigs in Croke Park went live on Ticketmaster at 8am, while tickets for the band's 15 UK shows in London, Manchester, Edinburgh and Cardiff are set to go on general sale at 9am.

Issues were encountered on the ticketmaster.ie page for the two shows at Dublin Croke Park shows, which went on sale at 8am.

Instead of a page opening to buy tickets, an error number was displayed, which usually indicates a webpage is unable to handle any more connections. Hundreds of thousands of fans are still queuing for tickets, as they attempt to secure their spot at Croker.

Ticketmaster has responded to Oasis fans who were kicked off its site for being seen as bots.

Several users reported to the customer service accounts of Ticketmaster Ireland and Ticketmaster UK on X, formerly Twitter, that their session had been “suspended” and the were having to restart the purchase process.

Staff at the ticket-selling website replied saying: “Please make sure you are only using one tab, clear your cookies, and ensure you aren’t using any VPN software on your device.”

It also shared a link with its guide on “how to improve your chances for getting popular tickets”.

Ticketmaster said its website has not crashed.

A spokesperson said: “The queue is moving along as fans buy tickets. As anticipated, millions of fans are accessing our site so have been placed in a queue.

“Fans are advised to hold their place in line, make sure they’re only using one tab, clear cookies, and ensure they aren’t using any VPN software on their device.”

A similar code was visible at gigsinscotland.com/artist/oasis as Scottish fans had difficulties getting onto the website for the Edinburgh shows.

The website tickets.seetickets.com/tour/oasis, where you can book for several UK shows, also appeared unavailable.

A message said: “Our website is very busy! We have lots of people looking for tickets and you are being held on this page until a space becomes available. This page will refresh automatically.”

UK tickets went on general sale at 9am through Gigs and Tours, ticketmaster.co.uk, gigsinscotland.com and seetickets.com.

Similar issues were seen on Manchester-based promoter SJM Concerts’ website Gigs and Tours is unable to load since around 8.10am.

It displays messages saying: “service unavailable” and “the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later”.

Screengrab taken from the gigs and tours website at 0830 of the message shown on screen.

Before the announcement for the UK shows, promoter MCD said on its website that the price of tickets for both of the two Croke Park gigs in Dublin will start at €86.50 without booking fees.

However, social media users reported the lower-priced tickets we're unavailable after accessing Ticketmaster on Saturday morning. and were instead offered tickets for premium packages.

Standing tickets at Wembley will cost fans £151.25, with the same tickets in Cardiff and Edinburgh slightly cheaper at £150 and £151 respectively.

In the band’s home city of Manchester, tickets start from £148.50, with only standing available alongside several hospitality and luxury packages.

On Friday evening, the band issued a warning after unofficial reselling websites listed tickets obtained from the early sale for thousands of pounds.

A post to the band’s X page said: “We have noticed people attempting to sell tickets on the secondary market since the start of the pre-sale.

“Please note, tickets can ONLY be resold, at face value, via @Ticketmaster and @Twickets.

“Tickets sold in breach of the terms and conditions will be cancelled by the promoters.”

Tickets are officially being sold via Ticketmaster, GigsAndTours, and See Tickets, however, the band’s reunion concert tickets have also been relisted on ticket exchange and reselling websites for thousands of pounds.

Oasis tickets for Wembley Stadium were listed on Viagogo for up to £5,909 while some tickets at the London venue, listed under “Hospitality Club” were on sale for £10,578 on StubHub on Friday evening.

The StubHub website says all Oasis tickets “come with our FanProtect 100% guarantee for secure purchasing.” Lisa Webb, consumer law expert at Which?, said: “We’d strongly advise against buying any of the resale tickets currently popping up online at inflated prices.

“Not only is there a chance that some of these listings could be scam attempts, but even legitimate tickets could be cancelled, rendering them invalid, if they are sold outside of the official resale platforms or at above face value.”

(L-R) Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis performing at Dublin's Marlay Park . Picture: IrishPhotodesk.ie

Noel Gallagher and his brother Liam announced on Tuesday that they had put their acrimonious split behind them, confirming the band’s long-awaited reunion by saying: “The great wait is over.”

Fans have been urging the brothers to regroup since they disbanded 15 years ago, a split prompted by a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris in 2009.

It has not been announced who will be performing with Liam and Noel as part of Oasis.

Noel, 57, quit the group on August 28 2009, saying he “simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer”, and the brothers have made negative comments about each other for more than a decade.

The band also released a 30th-anniversary edition of their debut album Definitely Maybe on Friday.

The new edition of the group’s 1994 debut album will feature outtakes, demos and alternate versions of songs recorded at the time, as well as a remastered version of the original LP.

The release is available as a four-LP vinyl box set, a two-CD set, coloured vinyl, cassette and digitally.

Viagogo and StubHub have been approached for comment.

Ticketmaster is advising Oasis fans on the best way they can secure tickets to their gigs.

The site said fans should make sure they are only using one tab, clear their cookies and ensure they aren't using any VPN software.

A spokesperson said: "The queue is moving along as fans buy tickets.

"As anticipated, millions of fans are accessing our site so have been placed in a queue.

"Fans are advised to hold their place in line, make sure they're only using one tab, clear cookies, and ensure they aren't using any VPN software on their device."

Resale tickets are being listed for as much as £7,025 on Viagogo.

Two seated tickets for the gig at Wembley Stadium in London on 25 July have been put on the site for £7,025 each.

Others are going on sale for around £5,000 each.

The band themselves have warned tickets being resold at increased prices will be cancelled, saying they should only buy resale tickets at face value through Ticketmaster or Twickets.

Here's something to keep the fans going while they wait anxiously to try to secure tickets...

The Gallagher brothers announced news of the Oasis reunion with an identical post to their social media accounts, saying: "This is it, this is happening."

They feature a video containing footage of the band's biggest past performances -  and you should be aware the footage contains swearing .

Went on to ticketmaster as soon as tickets went on sale and it had crashed. Managed to join a queue and was about 408,000 in the queue. After 32 mins I’m only at 395,212, hopefully they announce some more Irish dates!!

I’m absolutely flabbergasted at the organisation behind this. Ticketmaster should have been more prepared, I have to queue to even get on to the website and I am a true fan. I bet people are trying their luck to buy tickets to sell on! I am a true fan, favourite song: Wonderwall.  - Jane
Not like they didn't know what the demand would be like. Very poor. Just error messages for nearly an hour now - JL

The band have tweeted a new warning to fans against buying resale tickets that cost more than face value.

They say tickets for the band's gigs can only be sold at face value via Ticketmaster and Twickets.

"Tickets appearing on other secondary ticketing sites are either counterfeit or will be cancelled by the promoters," the band tweeted.

The band warned fans last night against buying tickets sold higher than face value.

Experts are also cautioning against purchasing retail tickets at inflated prices.

"Oasis fans are understandably eager to snap up tickets to the reunion tour, but we'd strongly advise against buying any of the resale tickets currently popping up online at inflated prices," Lisa Webb, a consumer law expert at Which?, said.

"Not only is there a chance that some of these listings could be scam attempts, but even legitimate tickets could be cancelled, rendering them invalid, if they are sold outside of the official resale platforms or at above face value."

She added: "Resale tickets should only be listed on the official resale platforms, Twickets or Ticketmaster Fan-to-Fan exchange, and at no more than the price that was paid (its face value plus booking fees) originally."

"If you buy through the official seller you'll be entitled to a refund if the show is cancelled but if you buy through a secondary ticket seller, you may not get your money back.

"We'd also recommend paying using your credit card if the tickets cost more than £100, or by PayPal, which also offers an extra layer of protection provided you choose 'paying for an item or service' rather than 'sending to a friend'."

This is it!

Tickets for the band's 15 shows in the UK have now gone on general sale.

We've seen various issues reported with ticket sites since sales for the band's two Dublin gigs launched at 8am.

The feuding brothers had strenuously denied any plans for a reunion over the last 15 years.

So why have they decided to finally reunited?

The reunion statement gives little away. "The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised."

Further details say there was "no great revelatory moment", but rather "the gradual realisation that the time is right" - but the Gallaghers have not addressed why now was the moment to come together.

Here, we take a look at the possible reasons why the brothers may have decided to reconcile...

Their mum Peggy?

In 2023, reports emerged that the Gallagher brothers' mum Peggy had urged Liam to make up with his brother Noel during a family trip for her 80th birthday.

An insider told The Sun : "In recent years there has been distance within the family, especially with Liam and Noel at war.

"Peggy has told Liam to mend the rift and she is hoping there will be genuine reconciliation."

Another source close to the Gallaghers told The Mirror that Peggy "would love to see them back playing together and has always urged them to stop arguing and put the past behind them".

Another theory doing the rounds is that a reconciliation has been made easier by Noel announcing his separation from wife Sara MacDonald in January 2023.

MacDonald and the younger Gallagher famously enjoyed a fractious relationship.

During Liam's Glastonbury set in 2019, she said on social media that he was a "fat twat doing his tribute act, balancing a tambourine on his head". The post was quickly deleted but there's more evidence of their dislike for one another, with Liam previously calling her "proper dark" and claiming Noel was "desperate to get Oasis back… but his missus won't let him".

Professor Jonathan Shalit OBE, chairman of talent agency InterTalent, told The Sun that the band could rake in £400m for a one-off tour.

"With tickets, sponsorship, merchandise and filming, I would predict an income for Noel and Liam of over £50m each. This is a tour that could easily gross over £400m."

According to celebritynetworth.com, Noel is worth an estimated £53m - suggesting he doesn't  need  to do this even with the reported cost of his divorce coming in at £20m.

In 2020, Liam said Oasis had been offered £100m to reform – a claim quickly denied by Noel, who suggested the remark was a publicity move to promote a single.

But even before any announcement has been made, Liam was quick to put anyone suggesting this is only about the money in their place.

"Your attitude stinks," was his reply to anyone questioning the motives.

Positivity received a different response, though.

Liam replied to upbeat comments about a reunion with comments like: "Your attitude is BIBLICAL."

Peer pressure?

Liam hasn't been the only voice appealing for Noel to set his differences aside over the years.

Last year, 1975 singer Matty Healy summed up what many Oasis fans have long thought: "I can deal with them dressing like they're in their 20s and being in their 50s, but acting like they're in their 20s — they need to grow up.

"They're sat around in Little Venice and Little Highgate, crying because they're in an argument with their brother. Grow up; headline Glastonbury."

Healy added: "There is not one person going to a High Flying Birds gig, or a Liam Gallagher gig, that wouldn't rather be at an Oasis gig.

"Do me a favour: Get back together; stop messing around. That's my public service announcement for today."

Noel Gallagher replied pretty much as anyone who has ever read one of his interviews would expect...

"Oh, that f***ing slack-jawed f***wit. What did he say?" said Noel when asked about the comments by an interviewer.

Upon being told, Noel continued: "He would never be able to imagine it. He needs to go over how shit his band is and split up."

With the younger Gallagher denying that money is in play, and the Sara MacDonald factor feeling a little bit "it was Yoko who broke up the Beatles", it may just be that the brothers simply remembered that, as the lyric to their beloved b-side Acquiesce goes, they need each other.

We're speaking to Jacob Robinson and Isabel Jones, who are trying to secure tickets for the band's gig at Heaton Park in Manchester on 16 July.

"We've got our laptops and phones and we've got our friends up in Manchester doing the same thing," says Mr Robinson.

"We're trying to get eight tickets, and it's not looking good at the minute."

We'll go back to them later to see how they get on when UK gig ticket sales go live at 9am this morning.

We're seeing more issues with ticket sale sites as fans flock to purchase tickets to see the band.

Many are reporting long waits, while others are struggling to even get onto the sites in the first place.
