Our tour in Darjeeling will commence from witnessing the beautiful sunrise at Tiger Hill over Mt. Kanchendzonga. After this we shall visit the Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, PNZ Zoological Park, Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refuge Centre and Tea Garden.

At Gangtok, natural beauty; alpine landscapes welcome one with a warm heart. The place is also known for amicable people and rich culture, it is clearly a must visit destination in India. This capital of Sikkim is also a hub of Buddhists, a hotspot for shoppers, lovers, and fashionistas. We would spend time exploring the beautiful places like Tashi View Point, Ganesh Tok, Hanuman, Rumtek Monastery/ Jhakri Falls, Institute of Tibetology, Enchay Monastery, Dodurl Chorten and M G Marg. We shall also treat our taste buds at M G Marg with mouth watering Sikkimese delicacies.

From urban to rural, our next destination would be Lachung, which is a scenic village in North Sikkim. Blessed with nature’s bounties, this place can be any nature lovers dream destination. It is one of those places where one whould spend time basking in the sun or hiking to a beautiful valley, Yumthang. The valley Yumthang is also known as the Valley of Flowers and is no less than a fairyland. Here one can see variety of flowers growing a sprawled land surrounded by lofty snow-clad mountains. We shall trek through Yumthang to learn more about this beautiful place, which is also the home to several varieties of birds. Wild animals like Red Panda are also a sighting possibility here.

Early in the morning, we will leave for Tiger Hill for witnessing sunrise over Mt. Kanchendzonga.Return to the hotel and en-route visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. Later, after breakfast visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, PNZ Zoological Park (closed on Thursday) Tenzing Rock, Tibetan Refuge Centre (closed on Sunday) and Tea Garden (outer view).Return to the hotel for lunch and spend rest of the day at leisure, followed by overnight stay.

Darjeeling - Pelling via Melli (115 km)

After breakfast drive to Pelling in West Sikkim. The journey runs through the winding road cutting across the valleys, hills and villages and follows the course of Teesta River and then beautiful Rangit River till Legship. Take a refreshing break at the view point near Melli and watch the magnificent confluence of Tista River and Rangit River. Later continue drive to Pelling and check into a hotel on arrival for overnight stay.

In the morning after breakfast, visit one of the famous monasteries, the Pemayangtse Monastery. It is the seat of the Nyingma Order of Tibetan Buddhism and was originally a small Lhakhang built by Lhatsun Chempo in the 17th Century. The monastery contains numerous antique idols and objects of worship and is filled with wall paintings and sculptures.

Later, we will visit the legendary lake at Khecheopalri (25 km). The Holy Lake is surrounded by dense forests and is believed to have the power of fulfilling wishes. Thereafter, we will pay a visit to the Kunchenjungha Falls and Rimbi Falls, two magnificent perennial waterfalls on the way. Return to the hotel for lunch.

After lunch we will proceed to the Dentham Valley, about an hour drive from Pelling. Visit Tsangey Falls and take some photographs of the magnificent falls. Also visit Sinsore Bridge – the highest bridge in Sikkim. Later return to the hotel for overnight stay.

Pelling – Gangtok (120 km)

After breakfast drive to Gangtok, land of unspoiled natural beauty with alpine landscapes, thick luxuriant forests, rivers in torrent and peaceful lakes. On arrival, checkinto a hotel. For rest of the day youare free to explore the local area. Overnight stay at the hotel.

After breakfast, proceed to Tsongmo Lake (12,210 ft)and Baba Mandir, a 40 km drive which takes 2.5 hrs. This lake is located very close to Nathu La Pass, which is the entry point to China termed as the “Silk Route”and remains frozen for most parts of the year. The lake is home to the Brahminy ducks and many migratory birds. Nearby is the sacred Baba Mandir, which is highly acknowledged for its spiritual worth. We can also visit the Nathu La Pass, which is the border between India and China. Later drive back to Gangtok. In the evening you are free for your own activities, followed by overnight stay at the hotel.

Gangtok – Lachung(125km)

After breakfast drive to Lachung (8610 ft) anden-route visit the Kabi Lungstok. It is 25km from Gangtok where a treaty was signed between the Tibetan King, Khye Bumsa representing the Bhutias and the Lepcha Chief ThekongTek. The spot where the ceremony took place is marked by a memorial stone pillar amidst the cover of dense forests. We will also visit the Naga Waterfalls and confluence of Lachen Chu & Lachung Chu at Chungthang. Chungthang is predominantly a Lepcha region, the nodal junction for the two passes- Lachen & Lachung. Later, we will halt at the Twin Waterfalls and Bhim Nala Waterfalls.

On arrival at Lachung, checkinto a hotel for overnight stay.

After breakfast proceed to Yumthang (11800 ft), which is also known as the Valley of Flowers. This is where the tree line ends & the rhododendron groves cover the landscape in a surreal shade. In winters there is snow all around and the snow clad mountains add a charm to the beauty. This place is also known for its hot springs that have healing medicinal properties. Enjoy entire day amid the magnificence of this place and later return to the hotel for overnight stay.

Lachung – Bagdogra/NJP Drop

After breakfast drive to Bagdogra airport or NJP railway station for reaching your onward destination.

Itinerary Details

Your journey starts from the Bagdogra Airport, New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or Tenzing Norway Bus stand from where you will be taken by our representatives. Darjeeling is a beautiful hill station which is protected by UNESCO and it is the place to witness a romantic train journey. The unique part of Darjeeling is the various monasteries located in the place.

On arrival in Darjeeling, check in to your hotel and relax for some time. You can spend the evening at your leisure and roam the shopping streets. Have dinner and return to your hotel for the night.

Wake up to the fresh morning air, have breakfast and your day starts from Tiger Hill . Tiger Hill is located at a quiet place making it romantic for lovers and couples. You can also just get lost in nature. The Kanchenjunga Peaks are prominent from Tiger Hills.

Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop and War Memorial are some other inclusions for the day. All these are famous tourist spots which can bring you closer to nature. The War Memorial commemorates the death of the Gorkha soldiers who lost their lives during independence.

You will be taken back to your hotel where breakfast will be served to you. From there on, you will start your destination again by visiting famous places like Mountaineering Institute, Tea Estate, National History Museum , etc. Ropeway and Refugee Self Help Centre are some other interesting places to visit.

Visit Peace Pagoda where different cultures meet. On the way, you can get a vibe of the tea plantations which are essentials of Darjeeling. A cable car ride is a unique attraction of this place and you must try this. After you return to your hotel, you can freshen up and go to Chowk Bazaar to buy some souvenirs.

After having breakfast, start on your trip to Mirik where you will spend the entire day. Mirik is popularly known for its views and breathtaking appearances. Mirik draws the attention of all nature lovers to this place.

The other place which is extremely known is the Sumendu Lake which is near tea estates and gardens making it an exotic location. One can spend some quiet and romantic time with their loved ones here. Activities like horse riding and boating are available for adventurers.

While returning from Mirik in the evening, visit the famous Pashupati Market for some rare collectables of jewellery and clothes. You can even stroll on the streets nearby. Return to the hotel to spend the night.

After having a hearty breakfast, the next destination on your list is Gangtok . It is a city worth visiting because of its never-ending tea gardens and the exquisite weather which makes it all so pleasant. You and your partner are sure going to spend the best time together. Gangtok has so many monasteries like Enchey Monastery, Do Drul Chorten , etc.

You will reach Gangtok in the evening after which check in to your hotel. MG road is very crowded at this point and you can roam the streets before residing back to your hotel for the night.

After your breakfast at the hotel, the whole will be for your enjoyment in Gangtok for the whole. Gangtok is filled with monasteries like Enchey Monastery, Ganesh Tok , etc. All of these are famous for its handicrafts work. Flower Show, Tashi View Point are other places to visit.

Banjakhri Falls is another attraction to visit in Gangtok. It is scenic in itself and covered with sculptures in the stairwells. Do-Drul Chorten is the biggest stupa in Gangtok and it is beautiful.

After a tiring day, return to the hotel to relax and you can also go out to the markets for carpets, shawls, wooden handicrafts , etc. Buddhist monasteries have an attic in itself and they make great structures.

After having breakfast, you will spend the whole day in Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir . The Lake is of great importance to the people of Sikkim and they worship the lake. The location is so mesmerising and you can spend some good time with your partner. You can find migratory birds in the lake.

Baba Mandir is dedicated to the army soldier named Harbhajan Singh , who died during the war and many people believe that they can see his spirit in their dreams. People come to this Mandir to pay homage to this great soul. Nathula Pass is an option included in the package.

Arrival in Darjeeling

Soon on your arrival at the New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) or Bagdogra Airport (IXB), the Swan Tours representative will receive you and transfer you to the hotel that is already pre-booked for your stay. Excursion to Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir

Batasia Loop Commissioned in 1919, Batasia Loop forms one of the most picturesque train routes in West Bengal’s Darjeeling. The unique creation of this track makes it wrap around the hilltop tunnel forming it to be a place of sheer beauty. It was built to reduce the gradient of the hill slope, making the commute easier. Ghoom Monastery Old Ghoom Monastery also spelt as Ghum Monastery is known for the 15 feet tall statue of the Maitreya Buddha. It belongs to the Yellow Hat sect or the Gelukpa. Japanese Temple Located at a 10 minutes driving distance from Darjeeling Town Centre is this Japanese style built two storied temple which is also known by the name of Nipponzan Myohoji Buddhist Temple. The temple possessing traditional Japanese architecture was built in 1972. Peace Pagoda The Peace Pagoda was designed to provide a platform for people of all genders and races to help them unite with each other and take a step towards peacebuilding. It was constructed under a Buddhist monk, Nichidatsu Fujii’s guidance who was the founder of Nipponzan-Myōhōji Buddhist Order. Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park Opened in 1958; the zoo is the largest high altitude zoo with an elevation of 7,000 feet in India. Every year around 3,00,000 visitors marks their presence t the zoo. Named after Sarojini Naidu’s daughter Padmaja Naidu, the zoo has an off-display breeding centre for red pandas and snow leopards. The zoo also provides shelter to the blue sheep, grey peacock pheasant, Himalayan tahr, Himalayan salamander, and Tibetan wolf, etc. Also, it remains closed on Thursdays. Chitrey Tea Garden Chitre, a small hamlet in Darjeeling is tucked in lush green tea gardens having the might Kanchenjunga in its backdrop. It is an isolated spot where tourists make a pit stop for refreshing themselves. The place has tea stalls having tea made up of fresh tea leaves from the nearby gardens. DAY 4 : Gangtok (Full day local sightseeing)

The tour for the day includes- Tashi View Point Offering you the unforgettable views of sunrise and changing mountain hues, Tashi view Point is a place that will build a home in your heart forever. Apart from the natural beauty it also lets you see the distant Phodong and Labrang monasteries. Ganesh Tok Located 6,500 metres above the sea level, it is one of the most famous Ganesh Temples in Sikkim. Apart from being a temple, the place also serves as an excellent viewpoint in Gangtok. Near to this is a small cafe which offers some good food and drinks. Bakthang Waterfalls Located in North Sikkim, these are among the most beautiful waterfalls you will ever come across. Though the fall is shorter in height, its width is what makes all the difference. It makes it look more charming and graceful. The waterfall is worth halting at. Enchey Monastery Established in 1909, the Monastery finds itself on a stunning ridge above the hill in Gangtok. Going by its literal meaning, i.e. ‘Solitary Monastery,’ it is considered sacred because of its protecting deities Khangchendzonga and Yabdean, who reside within the monastery. It is believed that these deities fulfil every wish of a truthful devotee. Do Drul Chorten Stupa Dro-dul Chorten is a stupa in Gangtok which was built by Trulshik Rinpoche in 1945. He was the head of the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism. The stupa houses Kangyur relics, Dorjee Phurba and other religious books. There are 108 prayer wheels around it. Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom Directorate of Handicraft and Handloom began its journey with its establishment in 1957. With objectives such as achieving a high level of human participation in skill development, preserving and reviving the Traditional arts and crafts of Sikkim, generating employment for handicrafts and handloom sector, and last but not the least, promoting policy-oriented schemes by the government, it has been successfully runny from decades. Also, it is a go-to place for art lovers. Ropeway & Banjhakri Falls Set at a four kms distance from the town, Banjhakri falls, is known for its breathtaking beauty. Plunging from a 70 ft height; the falls promise you a day full of excitement and tranquillity. The lush green neighbours of the falls make it look more charming than ever. The main attraction is the footbridge built over the stream. Near to it is a park that offers some adventure activities and ropeway is one of them. Flower Show Ridge Park and Flower Exhibition centre is known for the most exotic collection of blossoming flowers. If you wish to encounter the floral beauty at its best, make a move here. Institute of Tibetology Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is a Tibet museum the foundation stone of which was laid by the 14th Dalai Lama on 10 February 1957. It takes onto the research of Tibetan people’s culture, history, religion, and language. The Museum here has the rarest of the rare books based on Tibetology. After visiting the above-listed locations, head back to your hotel, have your dinner, and go for a peaceful sleep.

DAY 5 : Gangtok ( Tsomgo Lake Excursion and Baba Mandir)

Your day has to start quite early. Have something light before you begin for Tsomgo Lake and Baba Harbhajan Mandir at 8:00 AM. Tsomgo Lake Located at the height of 12,313 ft, Tsomgo Lake or the Changu Lake is 40 kms away from Gangtok. The glacial lake is considered sacred by the people of North-East. About 50 metres deep, the lake is surrounded by lush green landscapes making it a treat to your eyes. On a day when the sun is on leave, you will find this lake in a veil of mist making it look more heavenly. Baba Harbhajan Mandir Near to the Tsomgo Lake is the Baba Mandir which is also a memorial of the legendary Baba Harbhajan Singh. It is a unique site of attraction in Sikkim which the locals and tourists visit with all their heart. The water at this shrine is known for its healing powers. It is said to cure almost all possible ailments. The water is believed to be consumed within 21 days, and neither the ailing person nor his family members are allowed to eat non-vegetarian food in these few days. After visiting these miraculous places, make your way back to your hotel. Spend your evening in complete relaxation. Have your dinner and set yourself to a calming sleep.

DAY 6 : Gangtok – New Jalpaiguri Railway Station(NJP)/Bagdogra Airport(IXB) ( 130km/4 hrs drive)

Sadly, this is the day when you leave this place and return to your same scheduled lives. Need not worry you have collected enough memories to be cherished throughout your lives. Check out from your hotel and depart for NJP/IXB with a revitalised mind and body.
