Additionally, Incubus bassist Ben Kenney has exited the band after two decades. He will be replaced by Nicole Row , who now steps into the role permanently after spending most of 2023 filling in on bass for the band's live appearances.
Vocalist Brandon Boyd share the following speaking of the recent member change:
We are saddened at his departure but honor his decision and we are so grateful that we had the opportunity to make music with such a talented and generous artist for two decades. I'm sure it's inevitable that everyone will have questions as to the details surrounding his departure and that is fair, but in honoring our long friendship with Ben, it feels appropriate to allow for him to answer those queries in a time frame he himself feels comfortable with. We wish him only the best of fortunes and we tip our hat to Ben, one of the greats.

The seasoned session player will follow in the footsteps of Tal Wilkenfeld as a fill-in for longstanding Incubus bassist Ben Kenney
Incubus have announced that Nicole Row will take on bass duties for the band’s remaining 2023 tour dates.
Row is an accomplished session player who has performed with the likes of Myley Cyrus, Dua Lipa and, most recently, Panic! at the Disco, who recently disbanded after 20 years .
Regular Incubus bassist Ben Kenney is currently recovering from brain surgery – Jeff Beck and Prince virtuoso Tal Wilkenfeld filled his shoes on the band’s January/February dates .
Incubus announced Row’s appointment in a social media post, sharing, “We are excited to announce that our good friend @nicolesrow will be filling in on bass for the remainder of our 2023 tour dates!
“As Ben continues to recover from his surgery, we welcome Nicole to the band and look forward to playing shows with her this year! We’re currently in rehearsals for the upcoming tour and can’t wait to get back out on the road to see everyone this summer! <3”
Row followed up with her own statement, sharing, “So grateful to be asked to fill in for their bassist @vatoben while he recovers! It's an honor to play music with such an iconic band and a wonderful group of people. Let’s gooooo!”
Incubus begin their stint with Row at the Yaamava Resort & Casino at San Manuel on May 11, with shows continuing through October. See Incubus HQ for full dates.

Incubus revealed one of its members is stepping away from the band after undergoing a medical procedure that required plenty of recovery time. Bassist Ben Kenney would later explain why he needed to undergo surgery , revealing he had a brain tumor removed.

"Unfortunately last year I found out I had a brain tumor. As soon as I got home from tour I had a successful operation to have it removed," Kenney wrote on Instagram. "This year I am taking some time away from touring & social media to recover. My friend [Tal Wilkenfeld] is taking over the bass with [Incubus] while I'm away. The band followed Kenney's statement with a comment of emoji hearts for the bassist. It was also a classy move to allow him to speak for himself. "To our beloved fans in Costa Rica, Texas and Louisiana: Our Incubus brother and bandmate, Ben Kenney, is currently recovering from a recent medical procedure and will be unable to perform with us on our upcoming run at the end of the month," the band wrote. "In his absence, our good friend, Tal Wilkenfeld, will be filling in for him on bass and we look forward to performing with her on these shows! Honored to have been asked to perform with Incubus to fill in for my awesome friend Ben Kenney on their upcoming tour.... Posted by Tal Wilkenfeld on Wednesday, January 25, 2023
Wilkenfeld also posted a comment on the situation, revealing she was asked by Kenney to step in and was "honored" for the opportunity. Kenney has been with Incubus since the band's 2004 album, A Crow Left of the Murder..., previously releasing solo work and playing with The Roots for their album Phrenology. He would play the guitar for them, switching over to bass later on.

Incubus Bassist Ben Kenney Reveals He Had Brain Tumor Removed
Incubus announced earlier this week that bassist Ben Kenney would miss the band's immediate shows, citing that he was recovering from a "medical procedure." While the band's statement didn't specify what Kenney had done, the bassist revealed in his own social media post that he recently had surgery to have a brain tumor removed.
The bassist posted a photo on Instagram of his shaved head complete with a stitched up scar from where doctors operated on the musician. He also shared his own statement on the matter that reads as follows:
Unfortunately last year I found out I had a brain tumor. As soon as I got home from tour I had a successful operation to have it removed. This year I am taking some time away from touring & social media to recover. My friend @talmeastory is taking over the bass with @incubusofficial while I’m away. I won’t physically be at the shows but I will be there in spirit. I miss you all and I hope you and your loved ones are safe and in good health
Wilkenfeld also commented after Incubus made their statement confirming her participation in place of Kenney's absence. "Honored to have been asked to perform with Incubus to fill in for my awesome friend Ben Kenney on their upcoming tour. This Saturday Jan 28th- Picnic Festival, Costa Rica. Jan 31- Corpus Christi, TX. Feb 2- San Antonio, TX, Feb 3- Houston TX, Feb 4- New Orleans," she wrote, sharing photos of her hanging out with the band's members.

Incubus’ ben kenney underwent surgery to remove brain tumor.
We now know more about the medical procedure that’s keeping Incubus bassist Ben Kenney off the road.
In an Instagram post, Kenney reveals that he underwent surgery after being diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2022.
“As soon as I got home from tour I had a successful operation to have it removed,” Kenney writes alongside a photo of stitches on his head behind his ear. “This year I am taking some time away from touring & social media to recover.”
“I won’t physically be at the shows but I will be there in spirit,” he adds. “I miss you all and I hope you and your loved ones are safe and in good health.”
Kenney’s post comes after Incubus announced Wednesday that Kenney is “currently recovering from a recent medical procedure and will be unable to perform with us on our upcoming run at the end of the month.”
The “Drive” rockers added, “We wish Ben a speedy recovery and can’t wait for him to rejoin us onstage soon!”
The affected shows include dates in Costa Rica, Texas and New Orleans. Tal Wilkenfeld , who’s played with artists including Mick Jagger , Prince and Jeff Beck , will be filling in for Kenney.
Incubus also has shows scheduled for May and June, including dates with Coheed and Cambria and a set at Las Vegas’ Sick New World festival. It’s unclear whether Kenney will be back for those performances.

Tal Wilkenfeld joins Incubus while bassist Ben Kenney recovers after brain op
The former Jeff Beck bassist joins Brandon Boyd and co for her first shows this coming weekend, with Kenney promising he’ll be “there in spirit”
Aussie bass guitar phenom Tal Wilkenfeld has joined Incubus while long-serving bassist Ben Kenney takes some time out to recuperate following brain surgery.
The Californian rockers confirmed the move on Instagram yesterday (26 January), and wished Kenney a speedy recovery.
“To our beloved fans in Costa Rica, Texas and Louisiana: Our Incubus brother and bandmate, Ben Kenney, is currently recovering from a recent medical procedure and will be unable to perform with us on our upcoming run at the end of the month,” wrote the band in a statement. “In his absence, our good friend, Tal Wilkenfeld, will be filling in for him on bass and we look forward to performing with her on these shows! We wish Ben a speedy recovery and cant wait for him to rejoin us onstage soon! Much love <3.”

Ben Kenney was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year and underwent successful surgery to have it removed. He posted a picture of the scar on Instagram, and said he was taking some time away from the stage and social media to recover.
“I won’t physically be at the shows but I will be there in spirit,” he wrote. “I miss you all and I hope you and your loved ones are safe and in good health.”
Wilkenfeld has played with a who’s who of musical talent that includes Prince , Herbie Hancock , the Allman Brothers Band, and most famously with the late Jeff Beck .

Some players might be intimidated about being drafted in for a tour at relatively short notice, with shows coming hot on the heels of the announcement at The Picnic Festival in Costa Rica on Saturday 28 January, followed by a string of dates in Texas and New Orleans from 31 January. But Wilkenfeld’s the sort of player you just throw an instrument to and call the tune.

Speaking to MusicRadar in 2020 , she said she never bothered with a metronome to keep time with; she just played along to records, and with other people, and advises us to do the same.
A post shared by @incubusofficial A photo posted by on
“If the aim is to have your own sense of time and feel, if you’re relying on a metronome it could become a crutch,” Wilkenfeld said. “It’s always better to practice with humans – either on a record or other humans you actually know!”
But speaking of preparation, or the lack of it, Wilkenfeld’s audition for Jeff Beck ’s band was legendary. Having made the crucial mistake of having barbecued chicken pizza before flying out with his band for the audition, Wilkenfeld started feeling something off during the flight.
As she told MusicRadar , drummer Vinnie Colaiuta was fulminating about something as she was turning green.
“I remember saying to him, ‘Hey, Vinnie, I’m feeling a little sick,’ or something, and I remember him saying, ‘Oh, really? That’s a shame...’ and he went back into his political rant,” Wilkenfeld recalled. “About two minutes later I held up a filled-up bag and I said, ‘There it is.’ I’d thrown up into this bag without him even noticing because he was raving on about politics.
“The 10-hour journey was me, sick, to the point that when we landed I almost fell down the stairs of the aeroplane onto my hands and knees. Then got straight into an ambulance, went to the hospital, got put on a drip and they ended up leaving me in the hospital overnight.”
The next morning was little better but Beck’s manager called her and asked if she was ready. A car picked her up. After a four-hour drive she arrived at the house, half-dead, but with Beck raring to go. That’s when she knew the collaboration was going to work.
“When I arrived I thought we were going to hang out, relax, chill,” she said. “But as soon as we got there Jeff’s like, ‘You ready to play?’ So we went upstairs and rattled off his entire set in probably an hour and the chemistry between us was so amazing. But it was so funny that I was barely walking.”

Addition by subtraction: National analyst couldn't be more wrong about Steelers losing Kenny Pickett
By john buhler | jun 9, 2024.
The Pittsburgh Steelers may have completely overhauled their quarterback room this offseason, but they are not going to miss Kenny Pickett in the slightest . The once-fabled Fake Slide King became the Fake Slide Diva in a matter of two years. Pickett went from Pitt's most celebrated quarterback since Dan Marino, to Pittsburgh's most despised since Neil O'Donnell. What a wild ride it was for him!
As Steelers fans get ready to see all that could happen with either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields running Arthur Smith's system, the only person who seems to think Pittsburgh will regret moving on from Pickett is Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports . He labeled Pickett as the Steelers' most notable departure. Notable is a fair adjective to describe him, but there are others who will be missed more.
Here is what Sullivan wrote in his blurb about the Pickett departure to the Philadelphia Eagles .
"The Steelers had some of the biggest quarterback turnover throughout the NFL. On top of bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, Pittsburgh also traded former first-round pick Kenny Pickett -- and a fourth-rounder -- to the Eagles in exchange for a third-round selection (which ended up being Payton Wilson) and two 2025 seventh-round picks."
Sullivan's last little tidbit of what Pickett's new job will entail doesn't mean this is a huge loss at all.
"Pickett will now serve as the backup to Jalen Hurts, while Wilson and Fields will duke it out for the starting job this summer."
I would argue that losing quarterback Mason Rudolph to the Tennessee Titans or wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers are much bigger losses for the Steelers than Pickett.
Kenny Pickett's loss will be more addition by subtraction for Steelers
Pickett may have had a great final season at Pitt, but his two-year run quarterbacking the Steelers was the epitome of forgettable. It was a struggle to see him throw the ball downfield. The offense was chaotic the entire time he played for the team. While not having a top-tier coordinator didn't help, Pickett was a first-round pick because the Steelers thought he could be the heir apparent to Big Ben.
Instead, his tiny hands and two-gloved nonsense never got the Steelers more than painfully mediocre in the deep middle of the AFC. While he did show signs of promise during his rookie year, injuries, regression and then later a bad attitude is what led to his undoing in Pittsburgh. Remember that it was Rudolph who was starting games for the team down the stretch and into the postseason.
Overall, I think losing a top-tier backup like Rudolph is going to hurt the Steelers more than keeping an ineffective starter like Pickett around. Yes, the Steelers massively upgraded in the quarterback department by bringing in Wilson and Fields after cutting ties with Pickett, Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky. However, there is still so much more unknown with this offense with Smith taking it over.
The Steelers losing Rudolph and Johnson will be way more impactful than not having Pickett around.
