These Takhts, having the highest Sikhism ordination for all governmental and spiritual matters, are my spiritual authorities. They are at historical Gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) all over India in many cities.

The India is a unique country which has been the mother of all the different religions and considers all with true equality. Out of the given all, Sikhism, along with being the most brilliant among them, is also known for its heavy religious beliefs. Here are 5 Takht of India:-

This was guided by Guru Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Guru of the Sikhs who initiated it in 1606. The name “Akal Takht” holds the Phrase “Akal” and “Takht” which represents timeless or eternal, and throne or seat respectively. Therefore, Akal Takht embodies “The Throne of the Eternal One,” or the “Seat of the Eternal” in Sikhs’ perspective.

Akal Takht Sahib which is the highest spiritual authority acts as such and it deals with questions of Sikh governance, law, as well as discipline. It has a meaning of Sikh independence and self-consciousness. The verdict of Shri Harmandir Sahib’s Akal Takht is regarded as binding on all the Sikhs the world over.

Traditionally, Akal Takht has been in charge of guiding the Sikh community and founding solutions for the problems faced by the society in many different ways, practically and religion-wise. Best Time to Visit

The term "Panj Takht" collectively refers to the five Takhts or thrones in Sikhism, which are significant religious seats for the Sikh community. The best time to visit these Panj Takht yatra depends on various factors, including weather conditions and specific religious events.

Anytime throughout the year is suitable, but visiting during religious festivals or events enhances the experience. Amritsar's climate is typically pleasant, so you can plan your visit based on personal preferences.

Similar to Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the weather in Bathinda is generally favorable throughout the year. Check the Sikh calendar for important religious occasions for a more spiritually enriched visit.

Anandpur Sahib experiences diverse weather, with moderate temperatures. Consider visiting during festivals like Hola Mohalla to witness vibrant celebrations and martial arts displays.

  • Takht Sri Hazur Sahib, Nanded:

Nanded has a tropical climate, so the winter months (October to February) are preferable to avoid extreme heat. The Gurta Gaddi Diwas (coronation day) of Guru Granth Sahib Ji is a significant event.

The winter months are pleasant for a visit to Takht Sri Patna Sahib. Celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Ji's birthday (Gurpurab) in December or visit during other significant Sikh festivals for a culturally rich experience.

Before planning your visit to the Panj Takhts, it's advisable to check the specific dates of Sikh festivals or events, as these times often witness increased spiritual activities and celebrations. Five Takhts - Holy Thrones

Takht (Gurmukhi: ਤਖ਼ਤ) which literally means a throne or seat of authority is a result of the historical growth of Sikhism. There are five Takhts and these Takhts are the five gurdwaras which have a very special significance for the Sikh community.

The first and the most important one was established by Guru Hargobind in 1609. It is called 'Akal Takht' (the Throne of the Timeless God) and is situated just opposite the gate of Sri Harmandir Sahib – The Golden Temple, Amritsar.

The Guru established it, because he thought that secular political matters should not be considered in the Golden Temple, which is meant purely for worship of God. Here the Guru held his court and decided matters of military strategy and political policy.

Later on, the Sikh commonwealth (Sarbat Khalsa) took decisions here on matters of peace and war and settled disputes between the various Sikh groups. The Sarangi singers sung the ballads of the Sikh Gurus and warriors at this place and robes of honour (saropas) were awarded to persons who rendered distinguished services of the community of men in general.

Akal Takht Sahib literally means 'Eternal Throne'. It is also part of the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. Its foundation was laid by Guru Hargobind Sahib. The Akal Takht is situated opposite Sri Harmandir Sahib. The building of the Akal Takht opposite Sri Harmandir Sahib has a special meaning. While Sri Harmandir Sahib stands for spiritual guidance the Akal Takht symbolizes the dispensing of justice and temporal activity. During the day the Guru Granth Sahib is kept in Sri Harmandir Sahib, while at night it is kept in Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The Akal Takht is the oldest of the Five Takhts.

The Akal Takht was badly damaged during the assault on Sri Harmandir Sahib by the Indian army in June 1984. On June 6, 1984 the Indian Army stormed the Golden Temple complex, even bringing its tanks into the Parikrama during the Operation Blue Star. Operation Blue Star was an Indian military operation, ordered by Indira Gandhi, then Prime Minister of India. Sikh genocide has been ignored by the wider world.

Takht Sri Damdama Sahib (Talwandi Sabo) is situated in the village of Talwandi Sabo near Bhatinda. Sri Guru Gobind Singh stayed here for approximately a year and compiled the final edition of Sri Guru Granth Sahib also known as the Damdama Sahib Bir in 1706.

Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Patna

Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib Patna (also known as Takht Sri Patna Sahib) is situated in Patna city which is also the capital of Bihar state. Sri Guru Gobind Singh was born here in 1666 and he spent his early childhood here before moving to Anandpur Sahib. Besides being the birthplace of Sri Guru Gobind Singh, Patna was also visited by Sri Guru Nanak and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur at different points of time.

Takht Sri Hazur Sahib is situated on the banks of Godavari River in Maharashtra state. This is the place where Sri Guru Gobind Singh re-joined with God. The inner room of the temple is called Angitha Sahib and is built over the place where Sri Guru Gobind Singh was cremated in 1708 AD. He also conferred guruship on Sri Guru Granth Sahib and commanded Sikh's to follow the Guru Granth Sahib as the Guru.

Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib is situated at Anandpur Sahib. It is the birthplace of the Khalsa. The order of the Khalsa was founded here by Sri Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Some of the weapons of Guru Gobind Singh are still displayed here.

Day 2 AMRITSAR , HARMANDIR SAHIB

After breakfast visit Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). The Harimandir, now called the Golden Temple, is a living symbol of the spiritual and historical traditions of the Sikhs. It is said that Guru Amar Das found at the edge of the pool the desired herb to cure the skin ailment of Guru Angad (the second Guru of the Sikhs). However, the persistent local tradition best highlighting the medicinal properties of the water of the pond is the story of Rajni, daughter of Rai Duni Chand, and the subsequent cure of her leprous husband after taking a dip into the pond. It is said that Ram Das (at that time on a visit to a nearby area) visited the place in connection with the above episode and was so much impressed with the beauty of the site that he decided to found a place of pilgrimage here. Guru Sahib made it accessible to every person without any distinction of caste, creed, sex, and religion. It was in 1802 that Maharaja Ranjit Singh gilded the roof of the temple with gold. It was then that the temple came to be known as the Golden temple. AKAL TAKHAT SAHIB, Akal Takhat means the Throne of the Immortal and is the highest political institution of the Sikhs. Akal means The Timeless One - another term for God. Takhat means throne in Persian. The Akal Takhat is an impressive building that sits directly in front of the causeway leading to the Golden Temple in Amritsar. The Akal Takhat was founded by Guru Hargobind on June 15, 1606, and was established as the place from which the spiritual and temporal concerns of the Sikh community could be acted upon. It is from the Akal Takhat that Hukamnamas (edicts or writs) are announced to provide guidance or clarification on any point of Sikhdoctrine or practice. It may lay under penance persons charged with violation of religious discipline or with activity prejudicial to Sikh interests of solidarity. It may place on record its appreciation of outstanding services rendered or sacrifices made by individuals espousing the cause of Sikhism or of the Sikhs. Importantly, no individual is above the Akal Takhat. On one occasion the Sarbat Khalsa met at the Akal Takhat and decided to penalize Maharaja Ranjit Singh for his misdemeanors with a certain number of lashes on his back. The Gursikh in Ranjit Singh surrendered to the discipline and presented himself at the Akal Takhat to receive chastisement. However, corporal punishment to the sovereign was converted into a heavy fine. In the afternoon visit other historical gurdwaras of Amritsar, Gurdwara Sahida Sahib (Baba Deep Singh Jee Sahid), Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib, Gurdwara Lohgarh Sahib, Gurdwara Chheharta Sahib. Overnight at Amritsar.

He added to the original version prepared by Guru Arjan Dev Ji the verses of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. A large number of new converts joined the fold of the Khalsa here. Guru Gobind Singh Ji stayed at Damdama Sahib for nearly a year. After leaving the fort of Sri Anandpur Sahib & passing through Chamkur Sahib, Maachiwara, Deena Kangar followed by a historic war of battle in Mukatsar. Guruji arrived in Talwandi Sabo in the Year 1705 on a high elevated small piece of land. In that place, Guruji took a break & relax. Due to this reason, this pious piece of land is famous as Damdama Sahib. From Damdama sahib Guruji released orders(Hukamnama) for Sikh Disciples & announced or rather declared this sacred place as a Takhat. In 1706 Guruji Baptised around 1.2 lac devotees on the occasion of Baisakhi Get together(Jor Mela).
