City Cruise Terminal
City Cruise Terminal, Berth 101, Solent Road, Western Docks, Southampton, SO15 1AJ
Berth 101 is generally used by Royal Caribbean Limited, which means that ships belonging to Royal Caribbean , Celebrity Cruises and Silversea will normally be docked there. However, MSC Cruises , Norwegian Cruise Line , Saga Cruises and Fred Olsen can often be seen there too.
If you’re wanting to watch cruise ships arrive or depart, then Mayflower Park offers a fantastic vantage point!
Getting there:
Access to the terminal is via Dock Gate 10. Both Southampton Railway Station & coach station are just over a mile from the terminal building. Whilst it is easily walkable, it’s very busy around the docks, so we would recommend catching a taxi. There is a dedicated taxi rank outside the Arrivals Hall.
Southampton Airport is 5 miles away. You can get into Southampton from the airport either by taxi, or on the train.
Driving there yourself? You’ll arrive in Southampton via the M3 and M27, and there are clear signposts to the Docks. A short stay car park is available adjacent to the City cruise terminal, which is pay and display. For long stay parking you’ll need to book through ABParking – and the car park for this is adjacent to the terminal building.

Port Southampton is the UK's largest passenger (ferry and cruise) port and Britain's second-largest cargo/container port (following Felixstowe). Its first dock was opened in 1843. Most of its operations back then were regular Transatlantic crossings between UK and USA. Since 1982, the port is owned and operated by ABP (Associated British Ports Holdings Ltd).
Currently, Southampton is ranked the UK's largest cruise port and UK's second-largest container port (after Felixstowe).
Port Southampton
Port Southampton (locode GBSOU) is currently the UK's largest seaport, handling annually over GBP 40 billion of exports. The worth of its total trade is ~GBP 75 billion. Southampton is also UK's largest port for vehicle exports and home to UK's second-largest containership terminal (after Felixstowe) handling annually ~1 million TEU-containers.
The port (all its facilities) is managed by ABP (London-headquartered corporation) that owns 21x UK seaports and manages ~1/4th of Britain's sea-shipping trade. ABP Southampton is port's Statutory Harbour Authority, VTS Authority (vessel traffic service) and Pilotage Authority. Pilotage (vessel assistance by ABP pilots) is compulsory on arrival-channel navigation, for berthing-unberthing operations and also when the vessels shift anchorage in Southampton Harbour.
As cruise port, Southampton handles 500+ ship calls and 2+ million passengers annually. As ferry port, Southampton serves ~3 million passengers to and from Isle of Wight .
In the period 2012-2017, in port development projects were invested over GBP 280 million, including over GBP 50 million in new vehicle export facilities. On November 2, 2017, was inaugurated the Pacific Terminal (vehicle export terminal) that serves UK car manufacturers. The new facility has parking capacity 3400 spaces and is part of ABP's GBP 50 million investment plan for the port. Southampton is UK's main vehicle handling port, with 9 shipping lines making every month 110 visits to 52 ports in 40 different countries.
In 2017, the port handled some of world's largest boxships - MOL Triumph and MOL Trust (each with TEU capacity 20170 containers). The largest ever to visit the port boxship so far - Milan Maersk (20568 TEUs) - docked here on November 7, 2017. The Triple-E class vessel has LOA length 399 m (1309 ft), width 59 m (194 ft), above waterline height 60 m (197 ft).
Port's sheltered inland location and also Isle of Wight (in the English Channel) protect it from the effects of bad weather. Additional advantages are the close proximity to London City and the excellent rail / road infrastructure linking to the rest of England and bypassing the capital city's congestion.
In March 2021, DP World Southampton (cargo terminal) received "Freeport" status from the UK government. DP World Southampton also started an infrastructure investment project (GBP 40 million) which includes: dredging and widening of the boxship berths (via partnership with ABP), purchasing (GBP 10M) 11 Kalmar Hybrid Straddle Carriers (vehicles which lift TEUs moved by quay cranes), redevelopment of the dockyard for empty TEU storage , quay extension (by 120 m / 394 ft) to allow the world’s biggest gantry cranes to serve all the terminal's berths.
In March 2022, ABP officially opened for business developments an area of 30 acres (12 hectares), including 22 acres (at Redbridge Ward/which has a Freeport status) and 8 acres (in the Marchwood Industrial Park).
Each cruise ship visit to Southampton generates ~GBP 2,7 million in economic impact, of which about half remains within the region. The sector also annually supports ~14000 local jobs.
Southampton cruise port
Port Southampton has 5 cruise terminals in addition to passenger ferry terminals, container terminal and drydock facilities for marine vessel refurbishments and repairs. Major turnaround/departure cruise ports in the UK are England's Bristol , Dover , Harwich , Hull , Liverpool , Tilbury-London , Newcastle and Portsmouth , and Scotland's Leith-Edinburgh and Greenock-Glasgow .
In late-November 2020 ABP announced that for the building of the 11695-m2 (125890-ft2) new cruise terminal at Berth 102 (Western Docks) is contracted Brymor Group (Portsmouth-based construction company). The new (5th) terminal will provide shore-to-ship power supply. The new terminal (via partnership with NCLH-Norwegian and MSC Cruises ) received a GBP 8 million (EUR 8,9 M / USD 10,65 M) grant from the UK's Getting Building Fund. Also in late-November 2020, MSC signed a long-term agreement with Port Southampton for preferential docking rights. The deal started in summer 2021 with the homeporting of MSC Magnifica at the Port's newest/5th terminal (named in May "Horizon Cruise Terminal"). By this agreement, every year MSC has to homeport at least one ship in Southampton. For 2021, MSC scheduled for Magnifica 21x roundtrips from Southampton, including to the Mediterranean, mini-cruises to Northern Europe and 7-days to Norway's Fjords.
- After receiving a GBP 7 million government grant, in 2020 ABP Southampton introduced shoreside power connectivity for liners mooring at the new Horizon Cruise Terminal. Shore-power (aka "cold ironing") enables docked vessels to receive electricity from the city's power grid. From the berth, vessels can plug-in directly to the grid for full onboard operations without using their diesel engines (or gas turbines) which are shut down right after berthing.
- In mid-May 2021 ABP announced that Mayflower Cruise Terminal will be also equipped with shorepower technology.
In 2018, the port had scheduled 8 maiden calls (new ships visiting for the first time) - AIDAperla, Norwegian Bliss, MSC Meraviglia, Sapphire Princess; MS Zuiderdam, Seven Seas Navigator, and MS Koningsdam. In 2018, here was held the naming ceremony for the former P&O Adonia ship - now Azamara Pursuit (August 28), followed by a 2-night Cruise to Nowhere . Cruise port's busiest day in 2018 was August 31 - a 6 ship day with booked for berthing here Arcadia (P&O), Aurora (P&O), Braemar ( Fred Olsen ), Independence of the Seas (Royal Caribbean), Mein Schiff 3 (TUI) and Queen Victoria (Cunard).
For season 2018, MSC Cruises scheduled an extended itinerary program with more regular departures from the UK. The company intends to homeport here one of its newer (bigger) ships.
For 2017, the cruise port reported a record-breaking year with over 2 million cruise passengers. It is estimated that every visiting cruise ship brings around GBP 2 million to the city's economy. In 2017 the port received over 500 passenger ship calls. The busiest long weekend (15 cruise ships) was in June.
In June 2016, the 3 NCLH (abbrev "Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings") owned companies - Oceania , RSSC-Regent and NCL Norwegian - were consolidated/headquartered together in a building previously used by Carnival UK. The move came ahead of NCL returning to UK port departure cruises in 2017 (for the first time since 2010) with the ship Norwegian Jade leaving roundtrip from Southampton. NCLH's new UK company address is: "Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd, 4th Floor, Mountbatten House, Grosvenor Square, Southampton, SO15 2JU".
On May 21, 2016, RCI-Royal Caribbean International and the port authority ABP signed a GBP 5,5 million deal. It secures City Cruise Terminal (Berth 101) as the Royal Caribbean's official UK cruise departure port for the period 2016-2023. The Southampton cruise port's contribution to the UK economy was ~15000 cruise shipping-related jobs and GBP 1+ billion economic impact. On April 11, 2016, the new RCI ship Ovation of the Seas arrived and docked at Berth 101 (City Cruise Terminal, Western Docks). The ship stayed for a few days in Southampton before the repositioning cruise (53-days "Global Odyssey" itinerary) ending in port Tianjin-Beijing China .
On April 20, 2015, the RCI-Royal Caribbean ship Anthem of the Seas was officially named in Southampton. The christening ceremony was led by the godmother Emma Wilby (British travel agent). On May 3, 2015, Cunard Line's 175th Anniversary Celebrations were held in the cruise port. The special event was attended by all three Cunard liners - Queen Mary 2 , Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria . The three ships left the port together on their scheduled itineraries, en-route to, respectively, NYC New York, Hamburg and Guernsey (Channel Islands) .
In late-March 2014, RCI announced that Explorer of the Seas will be deployed in Europe and homeported in Southampton for summer 2015 (April through September). The list of roundtrips included 3- and 8-night Baltic Sea, 11- to 16-night Mediterranean and 10- to 14-night Madeira, Canary Islands and Azores.
(statistics) In 2013, the cruise port handled around 1,7 million passengers. In 2011 were handled nearly 1,5 million passengers (11% increase over 2010). Each cruise ship call in Port Southampton generates an economic impact of about GBP 2,5 million.
(statistics) Following the COVID crisis, in 2022 Port Southampton handled a record 489 cruise ship calls, including 8 maiden visits (by AIDAcosma, AIDAperla, Azamara Onward, Celebrity Beyond, Enchanted Princess, Norwegian Prima, Silver Moon, Arvia).
For 2023, the cruise port had scheduled a total of 492 ship calls/booked berthings (including 7 maiden/first-time visits) and expected ~2 million passengers.
In 2023, cruise shipping in Southampton contributed the record GBP 1 billion to Hampshire's maritime economy. The season was marked by ~2,6 million cruise tourists handled during 460 ship calls. Each ship call brought ~GBP 2,7 million to the local economy.

In 2015-2016, the "Cunard Terminal" was renovated for GBP 5 million. The renovation project was funded by Carnival Corporation and ABP (Associated British Ports) and carried out over 2 stages. Phase 1 (completed 2016-Q1) included building infrastructure improvements (check-in area, baggage handling area, X-ray / security screening area), also installing a 46-person elevator and reorganizing the drop-off passenger area. Phase 2 (completed in 2016-Q4) included the installation of a new ship-to-shore walkway.

Designed to accommodate the larger ships visiting the UK, Southampton's City Cruise Terminal is one of its' busiest.
Getting Here
By car, head towards the Western Docks. Follow the A33, West Quay Road. Look for signage for Dock Gate 10; City terminal is just through there.By train, the closest station is Southampton Central. Regular local and national services run here, with links to Southampton Airport Parkway (a 5 minute walk from the airport) running frequently. It’s just under 1 mile to walk from the station to the terminal, however it takes around 15-25 minutes. We suggest catching a taxi. There are dedicated ranks either side of the station, with journeys costing around about £5 - £7. Luggage shouldn’t cost any extra.Private hire taxis can be booked by calling WestQuay Cars on 023 8099 9999
For those arriving in Southampton, there is an arrivals lounge with comfortable seating. Open to the public, this offers the opportunity for friends and family coming to meet you to wait inside in relative comfort.
Facilities in the arrivals include standard and disabled access toilets, vending machines offering a limited range of drinks and snacks, as well as a magazine stand offering a range of complimentary magazines. Copies of Map & Guide to Southampton can also be found here – great for seeing what’s in walking distance as well as what’s on offer in the city.
Taxi ranks and coach bays can be found just outside the terminal as you exit. Pre-booking with a local firm can save waiting in long queues; we suggest using WestQuay Cars, as they have a large number of drivers with a variety of vehicle types depending on your needs. Enterprise Rent A Car operates a kiosk most days from the arrival lounge if you are looking to book a car last-minute.

SOUTHAMPTON CRUISE TERMINAL
There are four terminals at the Port of Southampton stretched across over 2 miles of waterfront, so it is important to know which terminal your cruise ship will be using or you might try to drop your luggage off at the wrong one.
If you are using a GPS or map program (we use Here WeGo ), input the following to find the correct terminal:
Mayflower Cruise Terminal : Berth 106, Herbert Walker Ave, Southampton SO15 1HJ
City Cruise Terminal : Berth 101, Solent Road, Western Docks, Southampton SO15 1AJ
Ocean Cruise Terminal : Berth 46/47, Eastern Docks, Southampton, SO14 3QN

PASSENGER & LUGGAGE DROP OFF
EMBARKATION: Luggage drop-off at the car parks is provided on a limited basis (indicated on the signage). For faster service, you can drop off your luggage and companions at the terminal first.
DISEMBARKATION: When returning you can either retrieve your vehicle and return to the terminal to pick up your companions and luggage in the loading area, or take your luggage and companions to your car park to retrieve your vehicle.

TAXIS : As to be expected there is a high demand for taxis during peak disembarkation hours and they may not be readily available. Please account for this wait time in your plans for departure day, especially when booking a flight home.

MONEY MATTERS
The currency of the United Kingdom is the British Pound (GBP) or Pound Sterling, which is divided into 100 pence. It is printed on plastic or paper bills in the following denominations: £5, £10, £20, and £50 (uncommon). It also includes the following coins: 1p (penny), 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2.
Although it’s not mandatory, tipping is customary in the United Kingdom and service industries will appreciate a tip for a job well done. Tipping is generally at a much lower level than visitors from the USA will be used to.
RESTAURANTS: It is customary to offer your waiter or waitress a tip of around 10% for good service. Service standards can be variable but are generally good and you will find the service is good though normally less attentive than say the USA. If the service isn’t great you can leave a smaller tip or even no tip. If you are dining with a large group (usually 8 or more) the restaurant may add a service charge to your bill automatically so check for this before you add your tip. This is usually indicated at the bottom of a menu if the restaurant does this, or it will be indicated on your bill.
PUBS/BARS : Tipping is not expected, but if you wish to tip, the usual approach is to offer the server a drink for themselves. This will be accepted and taken as the cash value of a suitable drink. In some places, you’ll find a “tip jar” on the bar.
TAXIS: A tip of 10% or a suitable rounding up of the fare to a round number is customary, especially if your driver helps you with your luggage.
Paying with a credit or debit card is very common and in most restaurants, bars, and even taxis, you’ll be able to add a tip to the total on the machine when you settle the bill if you don’t have cash. Some credit card machines have buttons with possible tips percentages on them so it will calculate the tip for you if you choose that option. You are always given the option to select the amount you’d like to tip, or you can opt not to put the tip on your card and give a cash tip instead.
BANKS & ATMS
Finding an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) will not be too difficult in Southampton, with the nearest one to the terminal located at Southampton Central Railway Station and several options in the town centre. We’ve also pinned several other banks and ATMs that are near the terminal to the map below.
Generally, in the UK, you will find ATMs at banks, grocery stores, railway stations and bookmakers. Any high street will normally have several machines available to use.
GETTING AROUND SOUTHAMPTON
Whilst the port is right on the edge of the town, it’s still about a twenty-minute walk to get to the town centre, so you might want to use a taxi or Uber to get there quickly and easily. There will typically be taxis waiting at the terminal, especially during peak embarkation and disembarkation times
Once in the centre, the town is very walkable like many UK cities and you’ll be able to enjoy the shops, restaurants and attractions very easily. But if you prefer, you can make use of Southampton’s public transport system.
SOUTHAMPTON WEATHER
The weather in Southampton is nothing if not changeable, but in general, you’ll find the summers are comfortable while the winters can be cold and windy. The best times to visit Southampton for warm-weather outdoor activities are from late June to early September.
The hottest part of the year is normally July and August with average daily high temperatures around 21°C (70°F). The coldest part of the year is the beginning of December to the beginning of March with average daily high temperatures below 10°C (50°F).
SOUTHAMPTON VISITOR’S CENTER
Southampton doesn’t currently have a visitors centre.
For the Official Southampton Pocket Guide click here.
FESTIVALS & EVENTS
Southampton has many events and activities taking place, especially in the summer months, so you’re bound to find some fun things to do while you’re in town.
if you are planning a cruise during any big events in Southampton it is best to book any hotels as far in advance as possible to get your desired accommodations.
Also, keep event dates in mind if you want to join in the fun, or come another time to enjoy a quieter Southampton.
While you’ll have plenty to eat aboard your cruise, you shouldn’t give up the chance to try some of the great things Southampton has to offer.
Being a large city, you can enjoy cuisines from around the world in Southampton.
A couple that come highly recommended are:
Casa Brasil – For meat lovers, little can beat a Brazilian all you can eat buffet. Turn your card green side up and they will keep bringing freshly cooked marinated meat until you give in and turn the card red side up to indicate enough.
Cattle Steakhouse – If a great British steak is what you need, or a delicious burger, then Cattle Steakhouse has you covered.
Southampton is the biggest place to shop on the south coast of the UK and therefore has plenty of options for those seeking some retail therapy or who need a last minute item they forgot to pack.
Westquay Shopping Centre has over 100 stores right in the heart of the city offering big named brands and plenty of food options.
Marlands Shopping Centre offers more boutique and speciality stores for those looking for something special.
Outside the indoor shopping centres, the city offers Bedford Place which offers independent stores and upmarket businesses as well as Queensway and Oxford Street to cover any shoppers requirements.

Known as the cruise capital of Northern Europe, Southampton has five different cruise terminals and welcomes around 2.5 million passengers annually. First time cruisers along with more seasoned sailors can sometimes find this busy port confusing. In this bumper post I’ve put together your ultimate companion guide with everything you need to know about cruising from Southampton (Bookmark this post for future reference!).
I’ll cover the best travel options to get to your cruise terminal, the best places to stay in Southampton before your cruise, the best places park, along with what to do in and around Southampton if you have some extra time before or after your cruise.
Southampton is a turnaround port (where a port is both the start and end point of a cruise itinerary). It’s also a ‘home’ port for many cruise lines, so it can get quite busy on turnaround days (usually on a weekend) when thousands of passengers embark and debark their cruise ship. It can also get especially busy during the peak summer months.

SOUTHAMPTON CRUISE TERMINALS
What are the different cruise terminals in southampton.
The Port of Southampton has five cruise terminals:
The Mayflower, Horizon and City cruise terminals are located in what’s known as the Western Docks, on the banks of the River Test, while the Ocean and QEII cruise terminals are located in the Eastern Docks located at the confluence of the River Test and the River Itchen.
What Facilities are available at Southampton Cruise Terminals?
There are luggage drop-off areas at all of the cruise terminals where porters are be on-hand to help load your luggage. Remember to keep your hand luggage with passports, any tickets and medication with you. All the cruise terminals have vending machines and a Ceano’s cafe serving teas, coffee, chilled drinks, alcohol and hot and cold food. Complimentary magazines and visitor information are available.
Toilets are available in both arrivals and the departure lounge. Wheelchair assistance is also available. There is a taxi rank and short stay parking at each terminal. It’s worth knowing that none of the Southampton Cruise Terminal have an ATM (Cash machine), payphone or WiFi.
Which Cruise terminal will my ship sail from?
While some Cruise lines and ships will predominantly sail to and from of a particular cruise terminal, sometimes you’ll find that some cruise lines might operate out of multiple cruise terminals throughout the season which adds an extra level of complexity.
As a general rule of thumb, the following cruise lines usually depart from/return to the terminals below – but there have been known to be exceptions.
Due to scheduling arrangements at the port, sometimes your cruise ship might depart from one cruise terminal but return to a different one in Southampton. We’ve experienced this on a couple of occasions so it’s best to check this in advance before arranging or pre-booking your car parking or onward travel after your cruise.
My tip is to check the Southampton Port Cruise schedule or Cruise Mapper for the up-to-date schedules and planned movements. Always double check with your travel agent or the documentation sent by your cruise line. Sometimes a last-minute change in cruise terminal might occur and notifications are sent from your cruise line or travel agent via email or text.

CRUISE PARKING IN SOUTHAMPTON
If you are driving to Southampton, then you will need to find somewhere to park your car while on your cruise. There are plenty of cruise parking options in Southampton to choose from and the best one for you will usually depend on a number of factors such as, cost, location, security, and whether you require accessible parking or electric vehicle charging options.
Car parking for cruisers in Southampton fall into the following categories.
Official Port Parking – Usually closest to your cruise terminal and the most expensive. You might also have complimentary parking included in your cruise fare so it’s best to check when you book. Depending on the duration of your parking you may or may not need to leave your keys with the parking provider.
CPS offer official port parking services for Cunard, P&O and Princess cruises and ABParking offer official port parking for Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, Fred.Olsen and MSC Cruises. Your cruise fare may include complimentary parking and if you, you will be provided with a voucher code to book on the relevant providers site.
Public Carparks – Centrally located in Southampton. These public carparks are just a short taxi ride to the cruise terminals – some are even within walking distance. These barrier-controlled carparks can sometimes be reserved in advance and will have a Park Mark and CCTV and are one of the cheaper options.
Some of the main barrier-controlled Car Parking in Southampton Include:
- Triangle Parking (closest to Ocean Terminal)
- West Quay Car Park (closest to City Terminal)
- Eastgate Street Multi-Storey Car Park
- NCP Southampton Portland Terrace
- Grosvenor Square MSCP Car Park
- Bedford Place Multi-Storey Car Park
Park & Ride Services – Slightly cheaper than the official port parking, but not the cheapest option. Usually located slightly further away from the port and include two-way coach transfers to the cruise terminals. They are also a great option if you don’t want to drive into Southampton which can get busy on embarkation/ disembarkation days – especially in the high season. Park and Ride services usually require you to hand your car keys over to the parking provider.
- Penguin Parking
- Cruise Azure Parking
- Portside Meet & Greet
Stay & Cruise Hotel Deals – Many of the hotels in and around Southampton offer Stay and Cruise Deals where your accommodation is combined with up to 15 days parking. These can be a great combination if you also need to stay in Southampton the night before your cruise. Most deals include breakfast and two-way transfers to your cruise terminal. Sometimes these deals can be cheaper than the standalone official port parking too, so it’s worth doing a price comparison. See below for Hotels which offer Stay & Cruise Deals with parking
Alternative parking – these can range from Private Driveways, gated parking, or Valet Parking Services. The cost, location, and security features will vary from provider to provider, and you may or may not need to leave your keys with the providers. You may also need to factor in a taxi to get you to and from the port.
SOUTHAMTON CRUISE HOTELS
One of my golden rules is never travel on the day of your cruise – especially if there are flights involved. Extending your stay in Southampton either before or after your cruise can make a more relaxing start or end to your holiday too which means you can also explore more of the area.
Where to stay in Southampton before your cruise
Where to stay depends on four main things – your budget, who you’re sailing with, how you’re getting to port and what terminal you’re departing from. Most hotels will get booked up very quickly in high season so as soon as you’ve booked your cruise, it’s best to start making reservations.

SIGHTSEEING IN SOUTHAMPTON BEFORE YOUR CRUISE
If you have dropped your luggage off early and have a few hours free before you need to board your ship then this can be a great time to explore some of Southampton’s historic city centre. Or you might want to extend your stay in Southampton a little longer before or after your cruise. In both cases there is plenty to do and Southampton can act as a perfect base to explore the Hampshire, the South of England and London.
If you have a few hours : then head to West Quay for a bit of retail therapy or to pick up some last minute cruise essentials.
A great place to head for a coffee in Southampton is Mettricks which is conveniently located in West Quay Shopping Centre (there’s also one up near the Guildhall too). I highly recommend it over the retail chains as it’s a family-run, independent coffee house in Southampton serving speciality coffee which is roasted in the city. Opening in 2013, Mettricks was the first speciality coffee house of its type and is a fantastic stop off point for great coffee and a delicious and brunch while you wait to board your ship.
If you have a day to spare : then you can explore more of this Historic City. Southampton Split into quarters:
@sotonbloggers on Instagram has some great ideas and suggestion and is my go-to account for Southampton for new places to eat drink and discover while you’re in the city. There’s lots of ideas and info on this great account and definitely worth a follow.
If you’re planning to stay longer: before or after your cruise, these are also great options to explore:
- Isle of Wight
- New Forest and Burleigh
- Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
- Windsor Castle
- Hampton Court
- Marwell Zoo
- Paulton’s Park

Southampton berth 102 - where is it?
By tring , April 13, 2015 in Fred. Olsen Cruise Line
Recommended Posts
We have just had our tickets fro the Balmoral sailing on 3rd May and the terminal is 102, yet we appear to return to terminal 101 (according to the southampton port schedule). The 3rd May is a busy day with all three Cunards + Anthem of the Seas in port that day, so we thought we had done well staying, (and parking), at the Holiday Inn, where we could have walked to terminal 101, which was the original dock scheduled.
Does anyone know where berth 102 is and if we could still walk from the Holiday Inn? I have found a trip advisor thread from last year which said 102 was a marquee and gave directions when driving (basically follow the signs), but that is not much use to us on foot. The cruise terminal next to 101 is Mayflower (106) and the Queen Victoria is there.

I'm not sure if you can walk from the Holiday Inn.
If you were entering the docks through Dock Gate 10, directly opposite is the Solent Flour Mills building, I understand berth 102 is behind the Flour Mills building. The berth appears to be between the Mayflower and City Cruise terminals and is probably, as you suggested, a marquee. Perhaps you can spot the Flour Mills on Google maps.
On one cruise on Balmoral, we checked in at berth 104 the 'Fruit Shed', it wasn't the most salubrious environment.
Enjoy your cruise!
Thanks for that tigernut. I think we will be OK as I decided to ring Fred and was told the terminal is very near the City and Mayflower terminals. The ticket said 'passenger terminal 102' and it seems that 'passenger terminal' is a terminal name, (as are City and Mayflower).
I did a bit more searching for threads, both here and on TA, and it seems that 102 was a marquee and behind city terminal last year. It seems both City and Mayflower are being revamped to take the new megaships - so I presume it is a temporary structure.
There is a dock gate (8 I think, but not sure of that), which is just beyond the Holiday Inn car park and we were able to just walk through that gate to City Terminal previously, (a 10 min walk), so fingers crossed we will be able to do the same. Back to back passengers were using that as a way in/out of Southampton from City Terminal. From what I gather, sometimes that gate is closed and the only access is via gate 10, which I understand is by the Novotelle, (as you said). If there is building work, I presume that could alter normal access routes, but as it is only an 8 night cruise we could probably still stroll up to the Novotelle and back to the terminal with our luggage, or even take the luggage in by car before we go.
At worst we will have to get a taxi, so we can sort it on the day. We had plans on taking the luggage up early and going back to the hotel for another cup of coffee though, as we have late check out at Hol Inns with their loyalty club. We do like to do things easy if we can.
Thanks again,
There is a more recent description here, not sure if it adds anything though:

That's one of the threads I found before I did my second post above. Having found out more I thought I would put the details on here as it could help other people.
I am just wondering if the new cruise ships will ever stop getting bigger! I hope Fred stick to what they have had so far, but there will be a shortage of smaller ships for them to buy as time goes on. That may well be when we give up cruising and stick to land holidays.
Thanks for the link though,
