16 Breathable Clothing Pieces to Keep You Cool in Heat Waves and on Summer Trips — From $15

Beat the heat with linen sets, breathable athleisure, moisture-wicking T-shirts, and more.

Travel + Leisure / Tyler Roeland

Summertime brings with it a major rise in tourism – and temperatures. With record-breaking heat already sweeping its way around the world, the way we approach travel planning is important and ever-changing. So, I’m never one to shy away from religiously checking my weather app before a trip in order to pack the best cooling clothing and accessory options to beat the heat.

After tackling 100-degree Fahrenheit temperatures in Arizona while visiting the Grand Canyon for the first time, I realized that I would need to take serious inventory of my travel wardrobe ahead of my annual summer retreat to Europe in August (fortunately, the weather didn’t deter from the magic of seeing the Grand Canyon, and retreating to the sumptuous, air-conditioned spas at The Global Ambassador and Ambiente, A Landscape Hotel most definitely helped). I’m already mapping out the items I’ll need to fit into my tried-and-true packing cubes as I fulfill my bucket list wish to finally visit the sun-drenched shores of Hvar, Croatia , Sicily's famed San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons Hotel from "The White Lotus," the family-owned, two-Michelin-starred Rossellinis restaurant on the Amalfi Coast, and more. It’s a lofty trip that requires a lot of packing consideration for the heat.

My very intentional checklist to navigate this multi-city itinerary includes fabrics that drape off the body, hats with built-in mesh for ventilation, and a few of my favorite breathable and airy staples. Polyester and cotton are also my go-tos for stretchy and airy outfits.

No matter your final destination’s temperature, here are some great options to stay prepared, from lightweight short sets to moisture-wicking t-shirts and everything in between.

Linen Short Set

There’s nothing quite as convenient as a ready-made outfit – one that already matches and does not require ironing. This linen short set from Zeagoo makes casual days on the beach a breeze, with shorts that feature an elastic waistband, an adjustable drawstring, and deek pockets. The button-down shirt can be paired with a cute tank or T-shirt, and it’s long enough to tuck in if you’d like.

Airy Oversized Button-down Shirt

To help beat the heat, this oversized, airy button-down from Big Dart is the perfect pick. Match it with your favorite pair of shorts or pants and a bold necklace to make it pop. It comes in a variety of colors, including a vibrant royal blue and rose color that sets the tone for a colorful summer. The oversized, loose fit and roll-up sleeves make it a great cooling option that's easy to put on and take off.

Wide-leg Linen Pants

When I’m climbing those steep stairs like Cersei did on a "Game of Thrones" tour in Dubrovnik in a few months, I’m going to need some very breathable clothing. A summer staple, wide-leg linen pants are the heat-fighting superhero of clothing that never fails. This flowy option from Siliteelon comes in an airy capri fit with an elastic waistband and pockets. The linen-cotton material makes it moveable and light. Pair it with your favorite pair of sandals and a tank top.

Casual Tank Dress

Lightweight polyester and spandex make this tank dress from Auseilly a surefire bet against any warm day. Equipped with pockets and long enough to wear with or without pants, you can choose from over 25 colors and prints for your next getaway.

Moisture-wicking T-shirt

This moisture-wicking shirt from REI Co-op is my must-have for trips to warm climates. The soft jersey fabric provides excellent moisture-wicking and UPF 50+ protection. Wrinkle-resistant and lightweight, it’s the perfect accompaniment to a pair of jeans or shorts – and will quickly dry even the worst of sweat stains.

High-waisted Running Shorts

Whether you’re aiming to get a run in or just in search of a pair of comfortable travel shorts, this high-waisted option from The Gym People fits the bill. A slit on the outer layer of the shorts provides a great range of movement while walking, and you can also store your cards in a handy hidden waistband pocket. Made with a moisture-wicking fabric, you won’t have to worry about any lasting sweat stains.

Linen-blend Matching Pant Set

Pack this super chic linen set for your next pool or dinner party. A sleeveless, square neck top and wide leg bottoms make it an ideal cooling outfit with a lot of breathability. Cotton rayon fabric is soft on the skin, and pockets in the pants are always a plus, especially while traveling. You can mix and match the top or bottom with alternate styles, too.

UPF 50 Cooling Bandana

With chemical-free cooling fabric, this cooling bandana shields against sun damage with solar protection yarn. Its cooling properties begin once you wet it and last for up to three hours. It can be worn as a bandana, neck drape, or headband, and has a very durable fabric — especially when it’s wet.

Lightweight Tank Top

The well-loved activewear brand Vuori has recently launched a new women’s travel collection , and this Villa Cami is one of my favorites from the line. A lightweight tank is a hot weather clothing must-have, and the easy fit option is naturally wrinkle-resistant and made with partially recycled stretch woven fabric. For another budget-friendly option, this loose-fit tank from Automet on Amazon bids well when temperatures rise.

Non-slip Slides

One of the worst feelings in hot weather is the slipping and sliding of sweaty feet in sandals. These no-slip open-toe slippers from Menore are super lightweight and breathable, with a thick sole that provides shock absorption and great cushioning for long walking days. These shoes have helped prevent that dull achiness after very active travel days, and they come in a number of vibrant colors I love, including rose and yellow. For another more dressed-up shoe option, I rely on these comfortable Donald Pliner mules on Amazon. The ventilated macrame fabric provides great airflow and the small heel makes walking long distances more manageable.

Lightweight Hooded Tank

A relaxed, breathable fit gives this hooded tank all the perks of a workout top to head to the gym or walking excursions while you travel. The popular pick on Amazon comes in a variety of colors and functional pockets.  I like to pair it with my favorite lounge pants from Vuori on layovers, or, these sandy river shorts from Columbia that feature 100-percent nylon fabric that has UPF 30 protection against the sun’s rays. They come in a variety of colors and are currently on sale on Amazon.

Breathable One-piece Swimsuit

Left on Friday

I fell in love with Left on Friday’s swimwear ( as did other T+L writers ) as soon as I saw its range of styles for all body shapes and sizes. The Sunday Suit provides all the considerations that many one-piece suits often miss: stretchy, quick-drying lycra, thin, buttery-soft material that doesn’t trap heat on hot days, and a range of colors that just screams, “ Summer is here. Get into it! ” They have a large range of bikinis, too, with full or cheeky coverage bottoms to choose from. For extra sun protection, check out their SunDays fabric line that protects from UV rays and comes in a range of styles that includes a long-sleeved mock neck top.

Button-up Swimsuit Cover-up

I love versatile clothing, and this pick from Dokotoo checks all of the boxes by functioning as both a swimsuit cover-up and a day dress. The material is lightweight with short sleeves and slits on each side that provides a great cooling effect when walking. You won’t have a hard time finding your color of choice for your beach or pool day too, as there are over 20 hues and prints to choose from. For beach days, I also adore this long sarong from Hunza G , with super soft fabric and UPF 50+ fabric. No matter the coverup, my go-to sunglasses to shield from the sun are any of the eclectic designs from designer Poppy Lissiman . I’m currently obsessing over these rose-colored crimped frames with CAT1 UV-protected lenses.

Ventilated Sun Hat

Sun hats come in clutch in any hot weather environment but can cause even more body heat due to lack of ventilation. This unisex hat from Columbia is the answer to all your hat hiccups, with a moisture-wicking headband and UV-blocking sun protection fabric. The sun-shielding hat has an adjustable chin strap and mesh ventilation for those days when your hair and head need to breathe. And speaking of hair, hot weather always makes flyaways come out to play. I like to slick mine down with GIOVANNI’S Styling Gel , available on Amazon.

Sweat-wicking Activewear Dress

I adore this flowy, lightweight dress from Columbia, particularly for its Omni-Freeze material that has accelerated wicking for hot temperatures and UPF 50 fibers that guard against UVA/UVB rays. A stylish gathered design at the shoulders makes it an easy pick to transition from active days to casual nights and the comfort stretch polyester doesn’t require an iron. The dress comes in a number of colors , including a vibrant coral color called “juicy” and a more neutral option called “safari” that can match just about anything.

Oversized Shirt Dress

Scotch & Soda

An oversized shirt dress allows for great airflow and ultimate comfort. The fun print of this dress from Scotch & Soda reminds me of the best beach summer days, with multicolor embroidered seashells and palm trees. It also perfectly matches the pink-themed retreat of the Amalfi Coast’s prized Palazzo Avino , where I’ll be spending a weekend – perfect for a photo opp. The linen fabric makes it lightweight, and it’s versatile enough to dress up with heels or down with sandals for a beach day.

Samsung 65" QN90C Neo QLED 4K smart TV: $1,598 (save $1,201)

Samsung 65-inch QN90C Neo QLED 4K smart TV

If you want something that really brings movies and games to life, this 2023 version of the Samsung QN90C continues to be a solid pick. It's a favorite among Samsung devotees, with its Quantum Dot technology and HDR+ to deliver content that pops -- with deep blacks, bright whites and vivid colors that look just right.

This TV uses AI smarts to upscale lower-resolution content to near 4K quality. So, if you're binge-watching older shows or catching up on classic movies, they're going to look a lot crisper and more detailed. Plus, its anti-glare screen is useful if you've got a brightly lit room.

The viewing angle is super wide, too. This means you don't have to fight for the middle spot on the couch to get the best view. The enhanced Object Tracking Sound+ feature follows the action on screen so it sounds like you're in the middle of everything happening.

If you need a massive, 85-inch TV, it's your lucky day. Even if you don't, you might want to grab this version of the 2023 Sony Bravia X90L TV since it's discounted to such a great price. This TV, thanks to Sony's Cognitive Processor XR tech, makes whatever you're watching look incredibly realistic. It optimizes contrast and color to make images pop more than ever.

This TV is also great for watching sports and gaming. Features including the screen's 120Hz refresh rate help to deliver super smooth gameplay without lag or tearing. The user experience is friendly, too. The TV runs using the popular Google TV operating system, which brings all your favorite streaming apps together. You can even chat with Google Assistant using just your voice.

The TV's adjustable stand nicely accommodates an optional soundbar without blocking the display, so you can hear everything with crystal clarity. If you have room for this massive size TV, it's our recommendation to go ahead and buy one.

This older model, however, uses LG's a7 Gen5 AI Processor 4K to automatically optimizes picture and sound quality. Plus, you get support for Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos.

This LG OLED smart TV runs using WebOS and has a slim profile and sleek design. If you're looking for a TV that fits into more modern decor, this one is the perfect size for an average size room. And right now, you can save $760 and purchase it for just $1,697.

Samsung 65" Class OLED S90C 4K smart TV: $1,598 (save $1,701)

Samsung 65

This smart TV delivers stunning native 4K viewing and uses AI powered upscaling to make lower resolution content look sharper than ever. Thanks to its thin and modern design, the TV will also look great in any living room or bedroom.

Thanks to its OLED display, you'll get remarkably deep blacks, vibrant colors and impressive brightness. HDR support adds crisp, smooth images. This is a slightly older model of this TV, but the S90 series continues to be one of our favorite.

As with all Samsung TVs, in addition to having easy access to all of your favorite streaming services, you also get plenty of free live and on-demand programming that's provided by Samsung. And when you pair this TV with any Samsung soundbar or surround sound system, you can take advantage of Q-Symphony to utilize both the TV's built in speakers and the speakers you connect to the TV to generate much more robust sound.

Plus, you can easily connect your favorite console gaming system to the TV, or play online games via a service like Nvidia GeForce Now or Xbox Game Pass, using your favorite handheld controller that pairs directly to the TV.

85" Hisense Class U7 Mini-LED ULED 4K smart TV: $1,498 (save $502)

85

Want a mega-large TV, but don't want to pay the price that usually comes with it? Walmart has your back with this 85-inch Hisense TV that's now priced less than $1,500.

This mini-LED TV has a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. It uses Quantum Dot technology and Dolby Vision to serve up a bright and jaw-dropping picture. In addition to its normal 120Hz refresh rate, you get up to 144Hz when using the TV's game mode.

In addition to a spread of familiar features, the TV also works with Alexa and Google Assistant, includes a voice remote for voice control and is compatible with Bluetooth devices like headphones, so you can watch in privacy when needed.

The Fashion-Insider Guide to Paris: Every Spot Worth Knowing

Paris travel guide

Where to Stay in Paris

Where to dine in paris, parisian cafés, old and new, where to sip in paris, where to spend in paris, what to see in paris, what to pack for paris.

Welcome to Who What Wear Travels , a series of curated guides to destinations the fashion set loves. Consider this your download on everything from the chicest stays to the most memorable meals to the perfect travel wardrobe, all vetted by stylish locals and well-traveled fashion folks.

The thing about Paris is that everyone has their own take on it. If you ask anyone who just got back from a trip, they'll insist that their dinner spot or museum is the best one. There are a million and one ways to experience the city, and for that reason, we wanted to wait a beat after rolling out other WWW Travels city guides (so far, we've covered London , Copenhagen , Mexico City , and Miami , among others) before publishing our own list of the "best" the French capital has to offer. While we would never claim to have the last say on this ever-changing and endlessly documented city, we've gathered what we think is some pretty strong intel on the coolest insider spots to have on your radar from the Parisians and fashion-industry experts who know it best.

Paris travel guide.

No matter how sought-after other fashion destinations may become, Paris remains *the* fashion capital, period. With fashion weeks happening most months of the year, from menswear and couture to ready-to-wear shows, the city will always have a certain gravitational pull with both insiders and anyone drawn to the industry. "There is definitely a realistic access to positions in the most renowned maisons," Sophie Hersan, co-founder and fashion director of Vestiaire Collective explains. "This is part of what makes Paris so attractive."

The dream of moving to Paris and working in fashion is something that recently been cemented by kitschy pop culture references like Netflix's Emily in Paris, but Hersan admits that she's been drawn to the idea from the age of 15. As a teenager, she would sneak out of the house to attend extravagant Parisian parties at Les Bains Douches and Le Palace in the hopes of bumping into the most coveted fashion people of the time.

Paris travel guide.

Fashion scene aside, there's the Paris of fine art, of gourmet food, of iconic architecture, and of art and design. I don't have the spell out the reasons why you might want to book a trip or return for the thousandth time—Paris is Paris, after all. The romance of the city isn't lost on its residents, either. "There is a certain douceur de vivre in the city," muses Chloé Harrouche , founder and creative director of Loulou Studio . "It never gets old." While she grew up in Paris, Harrouche still finds herself amazed by the architectural aesthetic of the city and often walks across the Seine to work at the Loulou Studio office, arriving brimming with inspiration. "There are little details everywhere in the city to notice and discover," she adds.

Surprisingly, the initial attraction for Martinique-born content creator Ellie Nes of @slipintostyle wasn't the fashion, which she admits contrasted her colorful maximalism. "It was mostly the culture," she shares. "All these incredible museums and, of course, the food. There's always a trendy new restaurant popping up and an endless amount of things to see, discover, and eat."

Paris travel guide.

Hôtel Château Voltaire ticks all the boxes: a prime location in the heart of Paris, an intimate but luxurious ambiance, the highest-quality service, and a fashion-crowd perspective. Thierry Gillier, the founder of the fashion label Zadig & Voltaire, is behind the 32-room boutique outpost. Hersan adores its "quiet, intimate atmosphere" and also recommends the on-site restaurant Brasserie l'Emil , which becomes a hot spot during fashion week.

Paris travel guide.

Le Grand Mazarin may have just opened in September 2023, but the playfully designed space makes it feel at once like the city's most exciting newcomer and a bona fide Parisian staple. Designed by Martin Brudnizki, this five-star indie boutique spot is brimming with eclectic and whimsical décor that's reminiscent of a Wes Anderson film, down to the colorful mural painted on the ceiling above the indoor pool. The hotel comes from the same team behind renowned properties like Crillon-le-Brave in Provence and Lou Pinet in Saint-Tropez and includes 61 rooms, a restaurant, two bars, a swimming pool, a jacuzzi, and a fitness center. It's located a stone's throw away from the Seine and a 15-minute walk from the Louvre.

Paris travel guide.

Located on a discreet corner near Les Halles, Madame Rêve is the definition of an "if you know, you know" spot. It's located in what was once Paris's only 24-hour post office and is now home to a rotating cast of fashion designers and insiders who flock here especially during fashion week. Boasting panoramic views of the city, including the Eiffel Tower and Montmartre, the hotel features two on-site restaurants and a rooftop bar whose menus range from French to Japanese influences. Even the spa is complete with a sauna overlooking the city.

Paris travel guide.

Brunch at Loulou on a sunny day is basically a requisite for any trip to Paris, and you'll find the terrace flooded with the city's most stylish patrons. It boasts one of the most famous locations in the world opposite the gardens of the Louvre, but beyond the space itself is the menu, a cross-pollination between Italian, Sicilian, and French cuisines that results in dishes like the risotto of the day and veal al limone.

Paris travel guide.

You've probably seen the towering plates of mousse au chocolat that are served from a large soup tureen and the striped awning that extends over the sprawling terrace in the Marais. The former is Chez Janou 's claim to fame, but the Provençal-style bistro is so much more than its most popular dessert offering.

Paris travel guide.

"I'm not going to lie," Nes admits. " Gigis is yet another fancy Italian restaurant where everybody raves about the truffle pizza, but the view on the Eiffel Tower is unbeatable, and there's a DJ, meaning you can push the tables and dance the night away."

Paris travel guide.

" Café Charlot is always bustling with a young, well-dressed crowd in the Marais," Who What Wear Editor in Chief Kat Collings shares. "Dance parties at the café have known to spill into the street late weekend nights. The food is decent, but it's not really about the food. It's more about the vibe and people-watching."

Paris travel guide.

Harrouche is a fan of Café Nuances in the first arrondissement, which serves creative drinks like an elegant rose latte and strawberry matcha. Designed by Uchronia, the space is done up in highly saturated hues and funky shapes, making it a true delight for all the senses.

Paris travel guide.

Known for its famed hot chocolate and towering swirls of whipped cream, Carette is the charming brunch spot you've seen all over your social feeds—and for good reason. The menu is an extensive collection of classic French dishes as well as gourmet pastries and desserts.

Paris travel guide.

Inside of the Ritz Paris at Place Vendôme, you'll find one of the city's most iconic and legendary cocktail bars. Bar Hemingway may be tiny, but every corner of the space is filled with quirky memorabilia of its historic past.

Paris travel guide.

Rouje founder and quintessential Parisian Jeanne Damas tells Who What Wear that Le Clown Bar is one of her favorites. In our Locals Only feature with the designer, she said it's one of her favorite meals in the city but shared that the bar also has a really great selection of natural wine.

Paris travel guide.

With its red velvet–lined and dimly lit interior, Hotel Costes is where you'll find the fashion set on a Saturday night. The hotel itself is a pillar of Parisian luxury, but it's all about the bar scene. Head here for a great cocktail and an even better vibe.

Paris travel guide.

Despite Paris's more old-school vintage scene, Nuovo has cemented itself as the cool girl boutique thanks to the curation of mid-range and premium vintage that's more about an overall vibe and less about specific designer labels. Its roster of celebrity clients includes some of the best dressed stars, like Lily-Rose Depp.

Paris travel guide.

For a uniquely Parisian shopping experience, Harrouche highly recommends a visit to Officine Universelle Buly : "The original 19th-century store in Saint-Germain allows customers the chance to discover the time-honored tradition and art de vivre of French apothecary."

Paris travel guide.

Le Bon Marché isn't just a department store. It's a shopping institution. It was the first department store in the world to be known for its curated selection, whether it be in fashion or homeware, and remains the perfect place to stroll and discover new brands. Hersan suggests stopping and grabbing a bite at the Rose Bakery tea room right next to the shoe department.

Paris travel guide.

While small compared to nearby art institutions like the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay, Harrouche says Atelier Brancusi is a worthwhile stop next to the Pompidou Center. The recently updated museum offers guests a unique perspective on the work of sculptor Constantin Brâncuși.

Paris travel guide.

There are certain things you travel all the way to Paris for—the croissants, the views of the Eiffel Tower, and Monet. Lovers of impressionist painting will want to beeline to Le Musée de l'Orangerie , where the large-scale versions of Monet's Water Lilies and more from the impressionist and post-impressionist eras can be fully appreciated.

Paris travel guide.

"The Louis Vuitton Foundation always puts on great exhibitions," Harrouche says. Right now, there's an excellent Matisse collection on display, featuring works from his original Parisian workshop.

The chief executive of Lloyds Banking Group – the UK's biggest lender – has offered a bleak outlook for anyone hoping for a return of low interest rates.

Charlie Nunn told Sky News interest rate cuts from the Bank of England expected later this year would be "beneficial" – but warned homeowners not to expect a return to the ultra-low interest rates seen for most of the last 16 years.

He added: "Of course, the short-term impact of interest rates is going to impact, first of all, the government on the cost of government debt. That will be important. And secondly, it'll make the cost of borrowing for businesses short term more attractive… that'll be important.

"In terms of the impact on the broader consumer in the UK, it'll take longer to feed through. Around mortgages specifically, we've just come off a decade where mortgages have been in the 1.5-2.5% range.

"The expectations the market have is that interest rates probably won't get below 3.5%.

"And that means mortgages, or the new normal for mortgages, will be in that 3.5-4.5% range, not 1.5-2.5%.

"So there is going to be a higher cost of borrowing in the economy, probably based on what we can see happening at the moment."

More than half of councils are not confident their area is prepared to roll out the next phase of free childcare, a report has found.

From September, 15 hours of free childcare a week will be available to working parents of all children aged over nine months old - expanding the policy from working parents of two-year-olds.

But 59% of local authorities say they are unsure if they will have enough places, citing significant challenges in recruiting and retaining staff, according to research by Coram Family and Childcare.

"For this policy to be a success, it is essential that all families can take up their entitlements, and the next few months will be a crucial time in making sure they can," said Ellen Broome, managing director of Coram.

The childcare changes coming in September are the penultimate phase of a policy introduced by the chancellor at the budget last year.

In September 2025, all working parents of children aged over nine months olds will be eligible for 30 hours free childcare per week.

Coram found only 11% of councils were confident there will be enough places to meet demand - a figure almost unchanged since January.

At present, 52% of councils say all or almost all eligible parents seeking 15 hours of free childcare have been able to.

But Ms Broome added: "We are concerned there may be further issues not only this September, but further down the line for families in getting the childcare they need."

Beyond workforce challenges, 36% of councils identified local buildings and space as barriers to delivering the service.

Martin Lewis has hit out at the Conservatives for using him in an attack ad.

The Tories posted a clip of the Money Saving Expert founder on X describing how a senior Labour member had told him they wanted to introduce a policy that was not in its manifesto.

Mr Lewis said the discussion he had been referring to was not about tax rises, but the Conservatives featured the video alongside the words: "They're not telling you the full truth. Labour have said they wouldn't put up your taxes. But it's now becoming clear that they have every intention to put them up."

Criticising the ad, Mr Lewis wrote: "NOWHERE in this comment do I talk about taxes.

"And the policy that I discussed (I will keep private as it was private) was NOT about taxes, or tax rises, it was about something that would be a positive change."

The Tories' original post was later tagged with a community note – a feature on X allowing readers to add context to a claim.

"Martin Lewis has confirmed that the policy he refers to in the video was not about taxes, and so is unrelated to the text it is presented alongside," the note read.

Labour, like the Tories, have promised not to increase income tax, national insurance or VAT during the next parliament.

Every Thursday  Savings Champion founder Anna Bowes  gives an insight into the savings market and how to make the most of your money...

With more than £253bn sitting in accounts earning nothing, savers are missing out on billions of pounds in interest. Although we are expecting to see a base rate cut in the next few weeks or months, as this keeps getting pushed back it's good to see that some of the best easy access accounts that you can open are still paying more than 5% AER (the Annual Equivalent Rate).

Some existing savers may have seen the rate on their accounts dropping however, as some providers have already started to cut rates in anticipation of a lower base rate this year. So, if you are one of these savers, it could pay to switch if you feel you are getting a rough deal.

That said, as easy access accounts are variable rate accounts, the rate of any could be cut at any time – so keep a close eye on what's happening.

Another thing to watch out for is bonus rates, which some of the top paying accounts include in the rate they are advertising. The most common type of bonus is one that will apply for the first 12 months of the account being opened, so you need to make sure you move your money at that stage, if the rate without the bonus is uncompetitive.

But sometimes the bonus applies until a specific date, which could be less than 12 months. For example, Chase Bank's Chase Saver is paying a headline rate of 5.10% but this includes a bonus of 1% which will be removed on 16 January 2025. Therefore, the rate that you will earn over 12 months (the AER) is lower than the headline rate. As of 16 June 2024, the AER on this account was nearer 4.68% - although as long as you make a note to review and move your cash when the bonus is removed, you can still earn 5.10% in the meantime.

Of course, as mentioned above, as with all variable rate accounts the interest rate you are earning can be cut at any time anyway, so you need to keep your eyes peeled.

It's important to read all the terms and conditions when opening a savings account so that you earn the interest you are expecting.

Shoppers could save up to 50% by buying them at the right time, a consumer magazine has found.

Which? found the prices of popular health products - such as Colgate toothpaste and Gillette razors - were fluctuating wildly throughout the year, as this table shows...

The researchers looked at like-for-like products from top-selling brands across 15 health and personal care product areas that were available for at least 42 weeks of the year between March 2023 and February 2024 - although multi-buy offers and loyalty prices were excluded.

"This suggests that the products are regularly on a promotion cycle and consumers could get good deals if they shop around for health products," Which? said.

One such example saw a packet of 30 Piriteze Hayfever and Allergy Relief Tablets at Waitrose reduced from £11.50 to £8 between May and July 2023 - and afterwards it cost £11.55.

What can consumers do?

Ele Clark, Which?'s retail editor, said: "Retailers constantly change products' prices based on demand, seasonality, agreements with manufacturers and what their competitors are doing.

"Which?'s advice in this fast-changing market is to keep an eye on the prices of products you buy regularly and stock up when the price is low - or ask yourself if it's really essential to have your preferred brand and consider switching to a cheaper product that can do just as good a job."

Drivers are being warned this week's heatwave brings risks of an unexpected £180 bill.

Car mechanics from Prestone said the hot weather could cause significant damage to windscreens - meaning you'll have to shell out for a replacement.

"Slightly counterintuitively, it isn't the heat directly that causes damage, it is the fluctuation in temperature that could cause damage," they said.

"When this happens to brittle materials such as glass, it can cause them to explode or crack; this is called thermal shock. To stop your windscreen from accumulating a lot of heat, avoid parking in direct sunlight. Consider parking under a tree, in a garage or other forms of shade."

Deliveroo shares have risen following reports US rival Doordash held takeover talks with the business.

Doordash flagged an interest in taking over the UK's Deliveroo last month, but talks ended as the two sides couldn't agree on the value of the deal, according to Reuters news agency.

The London-listed company's share price jumped by 6% to 136p this morning, although later eased to 3.7% higher.

Deliveroo has seen its value fall by more than 50% since debuting on the stock market in March 2021.

New details have been unveiled for Universal's first UK theme park - including plans for the attraction to be open 365 days a year.

Universal Destinations & Experiences - which is owned by Sky's parent company Comcast - has bought land near Bedford as it  plans to build  Europe's largest  theme park  with millions of visitors per year, as well as a 500-room hotel and dining area.

The building society is the latest to slash rates, after HSBC yesterday and Barclays on Monday.

It will be lowering two, three and five-year rates by up to 0.21% tomorrow.

It follows a reduction in swap rates - which dictate how much it costs lenders to lend.

So what does this mean for the market more broadly?

Here's what the experts told Newspage...

Emma Jones, managing director at Whenthebanksaysno.co.uk: "They're falling like dominoes now. Things are suddenly looking considerably brighter for the property market as we enter the second half of the year. Enquiries are up sharply this week, which suggests the improved weather may also have lifted spirits and confidence."
David Stirling, independent financial advisor at Mint Mortgages and Protection: "We've not exactly hit the bargain basement for borrowers just yet but the competition for new business from the banks has definitely heated up this week. For some the Bank of England decision in August is very hotly anticipated and could hopefully lead to an incredibly busy autumn."
Dariusz Karpowicz, director at Albion Financial Advice: "While these minor decreases are certainly a step in the right direction, the average rate for a two or five-year fix remains high. It's good to see rates moving down, but let's not get carried away. There are still too many unknowns on the horizon. The upcoming election, fluctuating house prices and geopolitical uncertainties all add layers of complexity to the market."

The supermarket has announced plans to open about 400 more of its Morrisons Daily convenience shops.

It is part of plans to take on discount retailers Aldi and Lidl, according to Retail Gazette .

Morrisons said it wanted to increase its total number of smaller shops to 2,000 in 2025, although it has not yet given a list of locations.

The supermarket has seen its like-for-like sales, excluding fuel and VAT, rise by 4.1% over the three months to 28 April.

Chief executive Rami Baitieh said he was "pleased with the overall performance" of the business in the second quarter.

No one could have failed to notice the rocketing price of olive oil over the last couple of years - and it's been just as bad in Spain, where it is an integral part of the Mediterranean diet.

The Spanish government has now said it will temporarily ditch the sales tax on olive oil to help consumers cope.

Spain is the world's leading producer and exporter of olive oil, and last year Spanish households consumed an average of six litres per person.

However, the country's agriculture ministry says prices have surged by 272% since September 2020.

The Money team wrote this piece in March about why that's happening...

The Spanish government had already cut the sales tax on olive oil from 10% to 5% as part of an anti-inflation package.

Now they've said no sales tax will be applied from July until September, when it will be taxed at 2% until the end of the year.

From then on, it will be taxed at 4%.

Spanish treasury minister Maria Jesus Montero said the decision reflects "the importance of olive oil in the Mediterranean diet and a healthy lifestyle".

The "Oscars of the aviation industry" has taken place and Qatar Airways has come out on top.

Qatar Airways was named the overall winner, as well as first in the business class, business class lounge and Middle East categories, at Skytrax's World Airline Awards last night.

It's the eighth time it has been awarded the best in class.

Last year's winner, Singapore Airlines, came second, followed by Emirates, ANA All Nippon Airways and Cathay Pacific.

British Airways was the highest-ranking UK airline in 13th place.

Europe's best airline was named as Turkish Airlines, while the continent's top low-cost airline was Spanish company Volotea.

The rankings are based on airline passenger satisfaction surveys across more than 100 countries between September 2023 and May 2024.

Other notable names to make the top 100 were: Ryanair (63), easyJet (66), Jet2.com (68) and Tui Airways (83).

These are the airlines that made the top 20:

1. Qatar Airways 2. Singapore Airlines 3. Emirates 4. ANA All Nippon Airways 5. Cathay Pacific Airways 6. Japan Airlines 7. Turkish Airlines 8. EVA Air 9. Air France 10. Swiss International Air Lines 11. Korean Air 12. Hainan Airlines 13. British Airways 14. Fiji Airways 15. Iberia 16. Vistara 17. Virgin Atlantic 18. Lufthansa 19. Etihad Airways 20. Saudi Arabian Airlines.

USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Awards logo

Best Candy Store (2024) June 19, 2024

If you have a sweet tooth to satisfy, you should check out these 10 independent candy stores across the United States.

Selected by a panel of experts and voted by readers as the best in the nation, these candy shops stand out because they offer a variety of delicious treats that you won't always find in big chains or supermarkets. Plus, they offer the chance to discover new flavors, support local businesses, and enjoy a fun and nostalgic experience.

True Treats Historic Candy

No. 10: True Treats Historic Candy - Harpers Ferry, West Virginia

The nation's only research-based candy store, True Treats Historic Candy offers candies from the earliest of times through today. For example, try the honey sesame brittle eaten by ancient Greeks, sour grape drops inspired by Native Americans, hand-pulled peppermint sticks from the 1600s, and retro favorites like ribbon candy.

Wilton Candy Kitchen

No. 9: Wilton Candy Kitchen - Wilton, Iowa

A veritable throwback to the days of yesteryear, Wilton Candy Kitchen has been a Wilton, Iowa, icon since 1867, possibly making it the oldest continuously operating ice cream parlor, soda fountain, and confectionery of its type in the United States. While the main attractions are arguably the luscious old-fashioned ice cream drinks and phosphates, the store also stocks a curated collection of retro candy.

Windy City Sweets

No. 8: Windy City Sweets - Chicago, Illinois

Since 1983, Windy City Sweets has been a one-stop shop for those seeking a sugar fix in Chicago. Find over 1,200 specialty sweet treats, ranging from a variety of bulk and pre-packaged nostalgic candies to a host of signature, housemade chocolate creations including fudge, caramel nut patties, s'mores, truffles, and chocolate-covered sandwich cookies.

Candyality

No. 7: Candyality - Chicago, Illinois

From saltwater taffy to assorted hard candy to the store's famous Secret Recipe Popcorn, Candyality offers just what you want to satisfy your sweet tooth. The store also carries a full array of retro candy, including candy cigarettes, candy necklaces, and Blackjack gum, among others.

Samuel's Sweet Shop

No. 6: Samuel's Sweet Shop - Rhinebeck, New York

Not only does Samuel’s Sweet Shop in Rhinebeck sell a cornucopia of sugar-laden treats, there’s also a sweet backstory that comes along with it. This beloved neighborhood candy and coffee boutique is co-owned by actors Paul Rudd and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, plus a few other longtime customers, who all stepped in to save the store from closing after the original owner passed suddenly in 2014. As far as the goodies go, expect to find tasty options ranging from classic candy and chocolates to baked goods.

The Farris Wheel Candy Co.

No. 5: The Farris Wheel Candy Co. - Wichita, Kansas

It’s easy to satisfy your sweet tooth in one fell swoop at this family-owned gourmet candy store in Wichita, Kansas. Offering everything from trail mixes and fine chocolates to jelly beans, toffee, malt balls, and licorice, The Farris Wheel isn’t lacking in choice. There’s plenty of retro candy here, too.

Bright's Candies

No. 4: Bright's Candies - Walla Walla, Washington

A mainstay in historic downtown Walla Walla, Washington, since 1934, Bright’s Candies keeps it old-school by handcrafting fine chocolates and confections using old family recipes and copper kettles. Specialties run the gamut from a variety of chocolate truffles to peanut brittle and salted caramels, all of which guests can watch being made via viewing windows flanking the side of the shop.

Sweet Pete's Candy

No. 3: Sweet Pete's Candy - Jacksonville, Florida

From Pete's Famous Sea Salt Caramels to caramel chocolate apples to an assortment of packaged candies, Sweet Pete's Candy offers quite the variety of sweet treats. To ensure no one is left out, the shop also features a selection of gluten-, dairy-, and nut-free options as well as vegan-friendly sweets.

The Sweet Granada

No. 2: The Sweet Granada - Emporia, Kansas

A visit to The Sweet Granada starts with the store's famous Pop-Choc, crunchy buttered popcorn mixed with creamy white and milk chocolates. Then you can move on to the truffles, fudge, macarons, and other treats to get your sugary fix. Even your dog can enjoy the store's offerings thanks to the dog-safe white chocolate-dipped dog biscuits.

The Taffy Shop

No. 1: The Taffy Shop - Estes Park, Colorado

Since 1935, visitors have popped into The Taffy Shop to watch candymakers create the store's iconic Estes Park Salt Water Taffy. Not only can you get your favorite tried-and-true flavors such as lemon, vanilla, and peppermint, but also daily flavors such as blueberry, chocolate cherry, and orange creamsicle.

The best bidets to shop, according to experts

We curated the best handheld, seat and toilet bidets from brands like American Standard, Toto and Brondell.

Considering a bidet for your toilet? These water-dispensing fixtures have plenty of benefits, including a thorough clean of your backside, reduced reliance on single-use paper products and a more eco-friendly household , according to our experts. Most importantly, bidets help prevent skin irritation and they make it easier for elderly people and those with mobility difficulties to keep themselves clean without strain. They also prevent potential plumbing issues, according to Billy Bruininga, a plumber and the owner of Billy’s Plumbing and Rooter .

That said, given the range of designs, sizes, materials and features, shopping for a bidet can be overwhelming — especially if you plan to install it yourself. To learn more about bidets and how to choose one, we interviewed two plumbers and a gastroenterologist. Below, you’ll find their shopping advice and their recommended bidets, so you can find the best model for your needs.

SKIP AHEAD How we picked the best bidets | The best bidets | How do bidets work? | How to shop for bidets | What are the various types of bidets? | The benefits of bidets

Selected. Our top picks

American Standard Aqua Wash Non-Electric Bidet Seat

How we picked the best bidets

We interviewed two plumbers who recommend keeping the following information in mind when shopping for the best bidets:

  • Type : Bidets come in a range of design options, such as handheld sprayers, seats, standalone models and toilets with built-in bidets. You can learn more about each type below .
  • Compatibility : Bidets require the right attachments and sources (for water flow and, in some cases, electricity) to function properly, according to our experts. Size and shape compatibility with your existing toilet is also key.
  • Materials : The best bidets are both aesthetically pleasing and durable, according to our experts. As a general rule of thumb, metal fixtures are superior to plastic, as they resist rust and bacteria, says Andrew Miles, plumber and owner of WaterFilterCast .
  • Features : Top-of-the-line bidets may offer additional features that boost comfortability and hygiene, including heated seats, heated streams of water, built-in sanitizers and air dryers, according to our experts.

The best bidets in 2024.

Below are some of the most popular bidet attachments, seats and toilets on the market. Most of our picks are direct recommendations from our experts. The rest are bidets that we personally own or are customer favorites with ratings of 4.6 stars or above from at least 700 reviews that are in line with our experts’ shopping advice.

American Standard Aqua Wash Non-Electric Bidet Seat

American Standard Aqua Wash Non-Electric Bidet Seat

Billy recommends this American Standard bidet seat because it’s easy to install and does not require electricity. It’s designed to fit most elongated toilets and its basic features include dual nozzles with adjustable spray volume and a slow-close seat that resists slamming, according to the brand. Each order comes with the necessary mounting hardware, including a water supply hose, plus the nozzle tips. Additionally, the seat detaches for easy cleaning, according to American Standard.

Bidet type: seat | Dimensions: 14.9 x 3.6 x 21.1 inches | Fits: most elongated toilets

Luxe Bidet Neo 120 Bidet Attachment

Luxe Bidet Neo 120 Bidet Attachment

With a 4.6-star rating from over 80,000 reviewers, the Luxe Neo bidet is designed to fit most standard two-piece toilets (round or elongated), and comes with all the pieces you need for installation, according to the brand. One knob switches the mode between bidet and self-clean, while the other lets you adjust the water pressure as detailed on the brand’s website. The valves and hose are also constructed from metal (rather than plastic) for improved durability, plus the retractable nozzles have a guard to prevent splashback, according to Luxe Bidet. Choose from white, rose gold or blue.

Bidet type: seat attachment | Dimensions: 17 x 10 x 3 inches | Fits: most two-piece toilets

Toto Washlet C2 Electronic Bidet Toilet Seat

Toto Washlet C2 Electronic Bidet Toilet Seat

When it comes to power units, Bruininga recommends this model for its primary features, which include a seat warmer, water warmer and the ability to adjust pressure. It’s also relatively easy to install as long as you have an outlet nearby, says Bruininga. The seat fits most standard elongated bowls and the side control panel allows you to adjust rear and front streams, temperature settings and nozzle positions, according to the brand. This unit also has a warm-air dryer, a deodorizer and an automatic wand cleaner.

Bidet type: seat | Dimensions: 18.56 x 20.87 x 5.81 inches | Fits: most elongated toilets

Brondell CleanSpa Non-Electric Handheld Bidet Attachment

Brondell CleanSpa Non-Electric Handheld Bidet Attachment

The Brondell CleanSpa handheld bidet is made mostly of metal (which our experts recommend to help avoid rusting), and it has a metal spiral hose and a steel sprayer that mounts to the side of your tank or wall with the included holster. Since it does not have any electric features, you do not need a nearby outlet to adjust the water pressure or shut the unit off from the T-valve, according to the brand.

Bidet type: handheld | Dimensions: 1.2 x 4 x 5.2 inches | Fits: most standard toilets

Brondell Swash SE600 Advanced Bidet Seat

Brondell Swash SE600 Advanced Bidet Seat

Miles recommends the Brondell Swash SE600 because of its luxury upgrades that make using it comfortable and enjoyable. “The heated seat is great over the winter months and having the warm-water option is really refreshing,” he says. Miles also likes the self-cleaning stainless steel nozzle, built-in night light and remote control features. Plus, it has a deodorizer and warm-air dryer. Since this seat bidet comes in elongated and round options, it’s designed for easy installation and should fit most toilets, according to the brand.

Bidet type: seat | Dimensions: 8.5 x 20.87 x 6.10 inches (elongated) or 8.5 x 19.5 x 6.10 inches (round) | Fits: elongated or round toilets (depending on the version)

Tushy Travel Bidet

Tushy Travel Bidet

The Tushy travel bidet is my pick for both at-home use and travel . Since it’s a portable squeeze bottle rather than an attachment that hooks up to your toilet, you can bring it camping or on vacation or discreetly tuck it away in a cabinet when company comes over. Its silicone body holds up to 11 ounces of water and collapses down to half its size with a built-in carabiner hook and included carrying bag, according to the brand.

Tushy Classic 3.0 Bidet Toilet Seat Attachment

Tushy Classic 3.0 Bidet Toilet Seat Attachment

This bidet has an adjustable, self-cleaning nozzle that sprays water upwards at various pressure levels, which allows you to choose anywhere between a light to strong stream. It takes just over 8 minutes to set up, and is compatible with most toilets, according to the brand. It has adjustable fasteners, which allow you to make sure the attachment is securely installed to the toilet seat and won’t shift or slide around. To install the bidet, all you have to do is remove the toilet, add the bidet and connect it to the water.

How do bidets work.

Bidets redirect some of the clean incoming water from your toilet into a nozzle. The nozzle creates a controlled stream of water that cleans your anus and genitalia without or alongside toilet paper. Bidet installations differ depending on the model and design, but all of them have a hose that you attach to your existing water supply. Once installed, most bidets have a dial that you can turn up or down to change the water pressure. The stream should be comfortable, but powerful enough to achieve a thorough clean in less than a minute.

How to shop for bidets

When shopping for bidets, our experts recommend that you keep the following criteria in mind:

Bidets come in a few design options, including handheld sprayers, standalone bidets, bidet seats and toilets with built-in spray nozzles, according to our experts. Each has its own benefits, drawbacks, and installation requirements, which we go into in greater depth below.

Unless you’re purchasing a brand-new toilet with a built-in bidet, the model you choose needs to fit your existing toilet. First, determine whether you have a round or elongated bowl, Bruininga says. Then check the compatibility and dimension information on the brand’s website to ensure that it will fit your toilet.

Connections

You should be able to install most bidets yourself as long as you have basic plumbing skills, according to our experts. Many handheld or seat bidets only require a water connection from your toilet and should come with the necessary connectors for hookup, says Miles. That said, top-of-the-line bidets “with heated seats and heated water options will require an electrical outlet nearby,” so if that requires stringing a cord across the bathroom, it may be best to skip the high-tech models, according to Miles.

Look for a brand and style that is durable and matches your existing bathroom decor. For example, a stainless steel nozzle is naturally resistant to bacteria and rust, so it will last much longer than plastic nozzles, according to Miles.

Extra features

With most basic bidets, you can adjust the intensity of the spray. High-end bidets may offer other luxury features, such as heated seats, deodorizers, lights, dryers, and remote controls, says Miles. While these features aren’t necessary, they may provide a more comfortable and gentle experience, according to our experts. (As previously discussed, models that offer these extras will likely require a nearby electrical outlet.)

What are the various types of bidets?

The below models all offer similar hygienic benefits; the difference in designs impact the installation process and some additional features.

  • Bidet seats: These are the most common and easiest to install, according to Miles. Some have a basic nozzle with adjustable water pressure, while more high-tech models may offer heating elements, lights and built-in dryers. These bidets replace your entire existing toilet seat, so it’s imperative that they’re the right size and shape, according to our experts.
  • Handheld attachments: These bidets consist of a hose that reaches from your toilet to a handheld sprayer that typically mounts to the wall or the side of your toilet tank when not in use. They’re often easy to install and relatively affordable, according to our experts.
  • Bidet toilets: Some high-end toilets come with built-in bidets, and while these are typically the most luxurious option, they’re also the most expensive and likely require professional installation, according to our experts.
  • Standalone bidets: Standalone bidets are completely separate from your toilet and use their own water sources. Since they require permanent, professional installation and take up significant space in your bathroom, none of our experts recommended any standalone models.

What are the health benefits of a bidet?

Bidets are more thorough and hygienic than toilet paper, according to our experts. "Keeping your private parts clean with a bidet can help prevent infections, especially urinary tract infections in women," says Bruininga. Additionally, bidets are ideal for elderly people or those who have physical difficulties. Plus, they are often useful for new mothers who may experience discomfort after childbirth, according to Bruininga. Lastly, bidets help promote healthier skin, since there's less of a chance of causing irritation with paper.

What are the environmental and financial benefits of a bidet?

Bidets let you significantly cut down on toilet paper to achieve a thorough clean, which benefits both the environment and your wallet, according to our experts. “You will also considerably reduce the chance of plumbing blockages,” says Miles. Bruininga agrees: “Unflushable wipes stay out of the picture,” which prevents expensive damage to your sewer system.

What are the risks of a bidet?

All our experts agree that bidets are safer and more hygienic than toilet paper. However, certain people should opt for gentler settings whenever possible to prevent injuries, according to Bruininga. Plus, it's important to check the water temperature to avoid burns. Bruininga also recommends cleaning the bidet regularly to prevent any potential infections.
