Cyndi Lauper announces farewell tour

Cyndi Lauper  is retiring from the road. The “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” singer-songwriter announced a farewell tour Monday morning, setting one last national jaunt that will take her to arenas in 23 cities in North America this fall before she calls it a day as a touring artist.

Lauper did not release any statement explaining her reasons for deciding to do a farewell tour now, although she is expected to talk about it later this week as she promotes a new documentary about her career, “Let the Canary Sing,” that premieres on Paramount+ Tuesday.

The Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, which is being described as her first major road trip in a decade, will begin Oct. 18 in Montreal and end Dec. 5 at Chicago’s United Center.

Arena dates she’ll be playing along the way include shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Oct. 30, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Nov. 1, L.A.’s Intuit Dome Nov. 23, the Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert Nov. 24, and San Francisco’s Chase Center Nov. 26. She will also be doing a non-arena show at Detroit’s Fox Theatre Oct. 24. (Scroll down for a complete list of tour dates.)

Tickets go on sale with an artist presale Tuesday, followed by other presales before the general on-sale begins Friday at 10 a.m. local time at LiveNation.com.

Opening acts will be announced at a later date.

“Let the Canary Sing,” directed by Alison Ellwood, which had its premiere at Tribeca last year, will begin showing on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday. That same day, Lauper will participate in a handprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood before attending a private local premiere of the film at the theater complex, to be followed by a Q&A. On Wednesday, she’ll be discussing the documentary and the farewell tour on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Teenage phenom to make PGA Tour debut this month

Teenage phenom Miles Russell will make his PGA Tour debut this summer.

Russell, a 15-year-old out of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, finished T-20 at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic in late April, becoming the youngest player to finish inside the top 25 in a PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour event. Russell will now get a chance to replicate that feat at golf’s highest level, receiving a sponsor’s exemption into the Rocket Mortgage Classic, which will be played at Detroit Golf Club later this month.

“The Rocket Mortgage Classic is known as a tournament where ‘future stars start,’ and we’re thrilled to have Miles make his PGA Tour debut here and add to that legacy,” said Jason Langwell, executive director of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. “He has proved with his many accomplishments at such a young age that he belongs, and we are excited to see Miles compete alongside the world’s best golfers here at Detroit Golf Club.”

Added Russell: “Ever since I first started playing golf, my dream has been to compete on the PGA Tour and test my game against the best players, and I’m looking forward to making the most of the experience later this month.”

Russell is no stranger to junior golf circles. He’s the reigning AJGA Player of the Year after capturing the Junior Players Championship and Junior PGA Championship (the latter by seven shots). He also competed at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Veritex Bank Championship in April, where he missed the cut.

Russell will become one of the youngest players to compete in PGA Tour history. Michelle Wie West owns the record at 14 years, three months and four days with her appearance at the 2004 Sony Open while Guan Tianlang holds the mark for the youngest to make the cut in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, doing so at 14 years and five months at the 2013 Masters. The tour has already seen two 16-year-olds make the cut in tour-sanctioned events this year, with Kris Kim doing so at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson and Blades Brown making the weekend at the Myrtle Beach Classic.

The Rocket Mortgage Classic begins June 27. Rickie Fowler is the defending champ.

2024 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin Available on June 6

WASHINGTON – The United States Mint (Mint) 2024 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin produced at the Mint’s West Point facility will be released on June 6 at noon EDT, with orders limited to 10 coins per household for the first 24-hour sales period.

The American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin is the collector version of the official United States Mint American Eagle Silver Bullion Coin. Produced since 1986, this coin was updated in 2021 with a refreshed obverse (heads) and a completely redesigned reverse (tails) to mark the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program.

Like its bullion counterpart, the obverse of the American Eagle Silver Uncirculated Coin features sculptor Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag, with her right hand extended and branches of laurel and oak in her left. Using technological advancements, the coin has been redesigned to encompass some of Weinman’s original details, which renders a closer reflection of his original vision, including the addition of his traditional artist mark. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2024.”

The reverse was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Emily Damstra and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Michael Gaudioso. The design depicts an eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to a nest. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “1 OZ. FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

To provide an added level of security, the redesigned American Eagle Silver Coin also includes a reed pattern variation. The Mint benchmarked its efforts against anti-counterfeiting programs implemented by major mints around the world.

Singer Cyndi Lauper has announced a farewell tour that will take her to 23 North American cities beginning this fall.

Although the dates are billed as the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour, Lauper did not indicate why she’s leaving the road after all these years. A new documentary about the True Colors singer-songwriter, Let The Canary Sing , debuts tomorrow on Paramount+.

• People in temporary housing are being sent to Aberdeen, Glasgow, and even England.
• The surge in visitors for Swift's shows has caused a significant increase in hotel demand.

A number of homeless people have been sent out of Edinburgh to make room for tourists visiting the Scottish capital for Taylor Swift's upcoming shows , according to BBC News.

Swift will perform for three nights at Murrayfield Stadium, from June 7 to 9, as part of the European leg of the "Eras" tour — the first concert tour to gross over $1 billion.

According to Edinburgh Live, some 210,000 Swifties are expected to attend the Edinburgh shows, which could bring more than $125 million to the Scottish economy.

This surge in visitors has led to a significant increase in hotel demand, according to the Daily Record.

Shelter Scotland told BBC News that a shortage in available accommodation has meant that some homeless people it supports have been relocated to other cities, such as Aberdeen and Glasgow.

The charity said that one person was even offered temporary accommodation in Newcastle, across the border in England.

In a statement provided to Business Insider, Shelter Scotland's director, Alison Watson, said that people experiencing homelessness have been put in "direct competition" with tourists.

She described the situation as a "blatant injustice."

"It simply should not be the case that hosting a major event at Murrayfield has significant knock-on effects for people experiencing homelessness in Edinburgh," Watson added.

Late last year, Edinburgh became the first city council in Scotland to declare a housing emergency . This month, the Scottish government declared a national housing emergency .

In Scotland, people declared homeless must legally be offered emergency temporary accommodation, which can include hotels.

In an email to BI, a spokesperson for the City of Edinburgh Council said it is not moving tenants out of temporary accommodation to make way for Swifties.

Instead, they said the council was struggling to secure available accommodation for homeless residents during the"Eras" tour weekend.

In a statement, the council's housing convenor, Jane Meagher, said: "It is a symptom of the housing emergency we face in Edinburgh that at times we must use tourist accommodation to house homeless households."

"We know it won't be available year-round," she added, "particularly over the busy summer months, so we use it reluctantly as a last resort."

Meagher said the council is working with affected households to find appropriate, alternative accommodation.

Taylor Swift's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
