Everything we know about Star Trek 4

Will captain kirk and co return for one more outing.

It looks like the only thing trickier than surviving a mission into deep space is getting all of your starships in a row long enough to send Star Trek 4 speeding into production.

The last time we saw Captain James T. Kirk and his pointy-eared pal Spock in action was in 2016 threequel Star Trek Beyond . Ever since then, updates on their next adventure have been sporadic at best, with news of stand-alone spin-offs from critically acclaimed talent and even a new prequel story drifting in and out of focus like passing asteroids.

Multiple writers and directors have boarded Star Trek 4 only to hit eject before any meaningful progress has been made, leaving this sci-fi tentpole franchise lost in space. However, a promising new update suggests that the crew of the USS Enterprise could be gearing up for a new mission in the not-too-distant future.

With that in mind, here’s everything we know about Star Trek 4 so far…

When will Star Trek 4 be released?

Star Trek 4 is currently without a release date. In fact, the film hasn’t even entered production so we’ll likely have to wait a few years before we can see the Enterprise crew back on the big screen.

What is the plot of Star Trek 4?

As it stands, we don’t have any details of what adventure Star Trek 4 will send audiences on. That said, we do know that the fourth film in the franchise is set to be the final outing for this particular chapter of the Star Trek story that J.J. Abrams started in 2009.

To say that Star Trek 4 has had a long and varied gestation process so far is a bit of an understatement. Initially, talk of a fourth film began before the release of its predecessor Star Trek Beyond and not long afterwards, auteur filmmaker Quentin Tarantino was reported to have pitched his own idea to Abrams in 2017.

This new take on the Star Trek story was being developed separately from Abrams’ primary universe and was reported to have an R-rated tone thanks to its violence and language. Despite gathering a group of writers to work on the project, Tarantino’s Star Trek ultimately hasn’t come to fruition just yet.

Madame Web helmer S.J. Clarkson was the next person to be hired to direct but dropped off of the film when negotiations surrounding the return of Kirk star Chris Pine and his on-screen father Chris Hemsworth fell apart.

Fargo’s Noah Hawley was then enlisted to take the franchise forward in a new direction that would’ve been starkly different from what had come before but involved the franchise’s same ensemble cast however his plans fell apart too, leading him to start work on the new Alien series instead.

Prison Break writer Kalinda Vazquez was the next person to be linked to Star Trek 4 before she was replaced by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s long-time director Matt Shankman. He was set to direct a new story written by Pet Sematary: Bloodlines scribe Lindsay Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, writer of 2018’s Tomb Raider reboot.

Unfortunately, cast negotiations dragging on hampered the development process and it wasn’t long before Shakman left the project to tackle Marvel’s Fantastic Four reboot instead. Despite this, Beer offered an update in September 2023 that suggested that her and Robertson-Dworet’s story was still in active development.

“It’s still on the tracks,” Beer told Collider . “I love that project, and it was another one that I had to hop off of to direct [Pet Sematary: Bloodlines], and that was a hard thing to do. But I love everybody involved with that project.”

The franchise experienced some promising signs of life in March 2024 when The Flight Attendant screenwriter Steve Yockey was enlisted by Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures to write a new Star Trek 4 script. While story details are non-existent, it’s believed that Yockey’s story is still planned to be the final outing for Abrams’ crew.

Responding to the news of Yockey joining the project, star Chris Pine said : “I thought there was already a script, but I guess I was wrong, or they decided to pivot. As it’s always been with Trek, I just wait and see.”

Who will be starring in Star Trek 4?

If Star Trek 4 does finally come together, the project will have to reunite the crew of the USS Enterprise. That includes Pine’s Captain James Kirk, Zachary Quinto’s Spock, Karl Urban’s Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Zoe Saldana’s Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg’s Montgomery “Scotty” Scott and John Cho’s Hikaru Sulu.

Pavel Chekov star Anton Yelchin tragically passed away following a freak accident in 2016 and it is unclear how the sequel might address his absence.

Bringing the movie’s crew together on deck might be harder than it sounds, with Quinto recently describing the process as “complicated.”

“I think there’s a lot of other stuff, creative things,” he said during a convention appearance in summer 2023. “The fact that anything good gets made is kind of miracle.

“I think it’s about different people having different agendas and ideas about what it will be. And I don’t know if and when it will happen... And if it coalesces again and we come back and we're able to do it, wonderful. If not, we had a great run.”

Meanwhile, Pine has also shared his frustrations surrounding delays and being able to see up-to-date scripts. He even called the sequel “cursed” following its trouble getting off the ground.

“After the last one came out and didn’t do the $1 billion that everyone wanted it to do, and then Anton [Yelchin] passed away, I don’t know. It just... feels like it’s cursed,” he told Esquire .

“I know costume designers that have read scripts before the actors. I would say it's frustrating. It doesn't really foster the greatest sense of partnership, but it's how it's always been. I love the character. I love the people. I love the franchise. But to try to change the system in which things are created – I just can’t do it. I don’t have the energy.”

Speaking to ComicBook.com in January 2024, Saldana said she would be “grateful” for one more outing with her galaxy exploring colleagues.

“I mean, I heard what you heard in the trades. I just heard they’re gearing up to do a new one with a younger, sort of, take on it... I don't know if it’s from the before or the after, but that they really still hope to grab all of us veterans and bring us back for one last round.”

“Listen, I know it’s a lot to wrangle a whole bunch of people with busy schedules,” she added. “But working with J.J. Abrams, and for J.J. Abrams at Bad Robot, was always just a wonderful and beautiful experience for me. So, if I get to do that one last time, I would be so grateful.”

Saldana reiterated these thoughts during a chat with The Discourse podcast in April 2024, saying: “I still have hope”. She added that Star Trek “should live for a very long time, whether or not us as the original remake cast can come back. I don’t know, but I certainly hope so.”

If the crew of the USS Enterprise manage to get their act together, only then can then start to discuss who might be playing their new big-bad plus anyone else who may return – or be introduced – in Star Trek 4.

Is there a trailer for Star Trek 4?

Unfortunately, there’s no trailer or footage available for Star Trek 4 just yet.

Will there be a Star Trek prequel movie?

Yes, a stand-alone Star Trek prequel movie is also in development from Abrams’ Bad Robot production company.

Set decades before the 2009 Star Trek reboot, the project is described as an origin story that will be written by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’s Seth Grahame-Smith and Andor director Todd Haynes.

In May 2024, it was revealed that Simon Kinberg will produce the project following his success overseeing the majority of the X-Men universe.

The new report confirmed that the film is set amid Star Trek's primary timeline and not the revised Kelvin timeline established in Abrams’ 2009 reboot and will take place shortly after humanity’s first contact with aliens.

Star Trek 4 is still in development.

Paramount is getting the Enterprise gang back together. No, not the 1960s series turned film series cast, but rather the cast of the J.J. Abrams relaunch that debuted in 2009 and went on to star in two subsequent movies.

Paramount executive Brian Robbins and producer Abrams made the announcement at Paramount’s investor event Tuesday, although details were not revealed. No deals are in place, but Paramount hopes that returning castmembers will include Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldaña and John Cho, who have starred in three films, beginning with 2009’s Star Trek .

The announcement signals a breakthrough to relaunch Trek on the big screen. The studio has been trying to regroup the cast since at least in 2018, when negotiations with Pine and Chris Hemsworth, who had a small role in Abrams’ 2009 film, fell through . Since then, Paramount has tried to redevelop the project, with creatives such as Quentin Tarantino and Noah Hawley taking stabs at films that did not move forward. Pine also played Captain Kirk in Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) and  Star Trek Beyond (2016), the last big-screen outing.

They’re boldly going back.

Paramount is planning to enter negotiations for “ Star Trek ” stars Chris Pine , Zachary Quinto , Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg to return to the Enterprise for their fourth tour of duty in the venerable sci-fi franchise.

The announcement was made by J.J. Abrams during the Paramount Investors Day Presentation on Feb. 15.

“We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new ‘Star Trek’ film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast and some new characters that I think are going to be really fun and exciting and help take ‘Star Trek’ into areas that you’ve just never seen before,” Abrams said. “We’re thrilled about this film, we have a bunch of other stories that we’re talking about that we think will be really exciting, so can’t wait for you to see what we’re cooking up. But until then, live long and prosper.”

The six actors first stepped into their respective iconic roles as Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Bones, Sulu and Scotty in 2009’s “Star Trek,” directed by Abrams, which reset the “Trek” timeline and allowed for the reboot to exist unencumbered from the hundreds of hours of “Trek” continuity that had come before. The actors returned in two sequels, 2013’s “Star Trek Into Darkness,” also directed by Abrams, and 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond,” directed by Justin Lin.

Popular on Variety

Abrams is producing the new, as-yet-untitled film through Bad Robot, with Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) directing from a screenplay by Josh Friedman (“Avatar 2”) and Cameron Squires (“WandaVision”) based on a earlier draft by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”).

Paramount was close to bringing back this cast once before: In 2018, S.J. Clarkson (“Jessica Jones”) had signed up to direct a sequel that would have reunited Pine’s Kirk with his late father, played by Chris Hemsworth reprising his performance from the 2009 “Star Trek.” That film never materialized, however, after Paramount reportedly couldn’t close a deal with Pine and Hemsworth.

Since then, insiders say the studio has done market research to determine audience interest in the rebooted cast, given the long wait period between “Beyond” — which lost money for Paramount — and a prospective new “Trek” film. Execs determined that there was still lasting audience enthusiasm for Pine, Quinto and the rest of the cast in their established roles, which allowed the studio to feel comfortable with moving forward with bringing them back.

Paramount has also explored several other avenues for “Trek” features, none of which seem to have ultimately borne fruit. Quentin Tarantino reportedly cooled on a “Star Trek” script he was pursuing with “The Revenant” screenwriter Mark L. Smith. In late 2019, Paramount tapped “Fargo” and “Legion” creator Noah Hawley to write and direct a “Trek” movie that Hawley planned to feature new actors playing new characters. But when Emma Watts became president of the Paramount Motion Picture Group a few months later, insiders say she paused all “Trek” development, including Hawley’s film , to decide how best to move forward with one of the studio’s crown jewel franchises. With Watts’ departure from Paramount in September, it’s unclear what the current “Trek” film portends for other development for the franchise, including a screenplay by “Fear the Walking Dead” co-executive producer Kalinda Vazquez .

Bringing the 2009 “Trek” cast back could prove a challenge given they’ve all had busy schedules since “Beyond.” Pine added the “Wonder Woman” franchise to his resume and he’ll next appear in Olivia Wilde’s thriller “Don’t Worry Darling” and the black-ops film “Violence of Action.” Quinto headlined the AMC series “NOS4A2,” and starred in the Broadway revival of “The Boys in the Band” and its 2020 Netflix film adaptation. Saldana continued her run as Gamora in several Marvel Studios films, including “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “Avengers: Endgame”; she’ll star in “Avatar 2” this year and in “Guardians Vol. 3” in 2023. Urban appeared in 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok” and he’ll continue his performance as Billy Butcher on Season 3 of Amazon’s “The Boys” in June. Cho starred in acclaimed indies “Columbus” and “Searching,” and he starred in Netflix’s live-action adaption of the anime series “Cowboy Bebop.” And Pegg starred with Nick Frost on Amazon’s horror comedy series “Truth Seekers,” and he’ll reprise his role as Benji in “Mission: Impossible 7” in 2023.

One member of the 2009 “Trek” cast, however, sadly cannot join them. Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov, died in an accident in June 2016, a month before “Beyond” opened in theaters. At that film’s premiere at San Diego Comic Con, the cast, filmmakers and invited guests sat in a full minute of silence in tribute to the late actor.

The Next Star Trek Movie Is More Important Than Ever After A Huge Announcement

Capt Kirk smiling

It's been the better part of a decade since the last "Star Trek" film hit the big screen in 2016. Fans dying to see what happens next in the Kelvin timeline have gradually felt their hopes slipping away as rumors of the next installment — including scuttlebutt about an R-rated Quentin Tarantino "Star Trek" film — keep failing to pan out. But according to  Variety, Paramount has confirmed plans to move forward with the Kelvin timeline's "final chapter" — and that's just the beginning of the good news for Trekkies. There's reportedly a second feature "Trek" film in the works that's even closer to pre-production. The studio says this film will prove fundamental to the "Star Trek" canon by helping establish the primary timeline's origin story.

The emphasis on the second project's relationship to the primary timeline gives fans even more insight into a storyline hinted at by  Deadline in January 2024, when sources teased a tightly guarded plot that would be set decades before the events of the 2009 "Star Trek" movie. Like the Kelvin timeline films, it will be produced by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions. On track to write it is Seth Grahame-Smith, who penned "Dark Shadows," "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter," and "The Lego Batman Movie."

Even more promising is who Paramount brought on to direct the film: Toby Haynes, a director whose resume includes "Andor," "Sherlock," a handful of the very best "Doctor Who" episodes from the Eleventh Doctor's tenure, and the critically lauded "Black Mirror" take on "Star Trek," "U.S.S. Callister." Insiders told Variety the origin film will be in preproduction by the end of 2024.

Even more Trek films could be in the works

Philippa Georgiou threatens crew

The origin film is just one piece of Paramount's big plans to continue growing the "Star Trek" franchise in the coming years, which also include a push for more television movies, starting with the long-awaited "Section 31" story starring Michelle Yeoh. A look at the fandom-divisive darker side of Starfleet that first showed up in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Inquisition," the film will have a decidedly spy-fi flavor that Yeoh compared to "”Mission: Impossible' in space" when speaking with Variety.

With filming already wrapped on the "Section 31" movie, executive producer Alex Kurtzman is more than ready to consider making even more streaming "Star Trek" films. Up for consideration is a follow-up to the "Picard" series. And with all of the "Star Trek" stories currently in production beginning with the 32nd-century-set young adult series "Starfleet Academy," which is currently in its planning phase, who knows where the franchise could be headed?

Star Trek Universe’s Promising Future Was on Display at Dragon Con

By Stephen Wilds

I did not expect to be loudly chanting “Lower Decks” with a large ballroom of Star Trek fans this past weekend, but there I was, and it felt good.

Dragon Con invaded Atlanta again this year with a plethora of celebrities, comic book industry veterans, and professional cosplayers, turning multiple hotels into a massive nexus of geekdom as attendees swarmed downtown in costumes and clever t-shirts. It’s a wonderful time of the year, and I’m always trying to figure out how to make the most of my time there with so much to experience. I knew I wanted to do more panels this time, but thanks to some odd scheduling and my personal social calendar, I mostly hit up Star Trek panels – a decision I would come to appreciate, especially considering the range of guests from the hit franchise.

From Walter Koenig, who played Ensign Pavel Chekov in The Original Series, to mainstays like Garrett Wang from Voyager, who attends and emcees most years, and a slew of actors from several shows that are currently running, it felt like most eras of the shows were represented and there was someone for everyone to appreciate. The Star Trek fans showed up in droves, most donning their uniforms or other mash-up cosplays to show support for the fandom they love. I didn’t dress up but wore my standard-issue Starfleet uniform in spirit.

First up for me was the Lower Decks panel featuring Tawny Newsome (Beckett Mariner), who some may have seen on Space Force, and Eugene Cordero (Samanthan Rutherford), a comedian I also recognize from his role on Loki. These two voice actors were absolutely hilarious together during this Q&A, showing off their excellent chemistry and familiarity with not only each other but the franchise also. I loved hearing Tawny’s stories about correcting some of the showrunners on the lore, as she’s a huge Next Generation and Deep Space Nine fan. There were running gags about most of the questions being directed toward her, to the point that Eugene answered one for Tawny jokingly but accurately as well, and how some characters received names and smaller plots were given more life due to their improvisations. Hearing them speak about working on this show was incredible and made me envious to be a part of something like Lower Decks, even though this was all a bit bittersweet.

It was announced recently that the animated program will conclude with the upcoming fifth season, even though most of the actors have expressed interest in doing more or at least being able to continue with these characters. It’s an adult program full of esoteric references that tried to push the envelope within the franchise and pulled in some new non-traditional Trek fans, so I think most people would call the series a success (it’s wonderful). The crossover episode Lower Decks did with Strange New Worlds was a big topic for questions, and it means the series is just that much more cemented into the overall history. I was glad to hear that at least two of the actors weren’t bitter about it ending and were looking forward to the future, the chance to be a part of Star Trek again. Tawny is already contributing to a new show in the Trek family, a live-action comedy that may share some qualities with Lower Decks, so the outlook isn’t bleak. Fingers crossed, this new thing will impress, and Eugene gets to cameo.

Just as they were getting ready to leave, the moderator called them back and said there was one other thing they needed to do. I’m not sure why the chant surprised me initially, but I couldn’t help myself, I joined in toward the end.

Following that was a panel with several familiar faces I grew up with, as Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker), Brent Spiner (Lt. Commander Data), Gates McFadden (Dr. Crusher), and John de Lancie (Q) all prepared to take questions from Next Gen to Picard, according to the event’s title. The beginning, however, was more of a comedy act between old friends, as Garrett Wang was running late due to the crowds on the skybridge. It’s obvious these people weren’t just colleagues, but friends, with decades of experience and stories to share. They picked on each other, quoted countless references to co-stars who weren’t there, and encouraged Spiner to do his various Patrick Stewart impersonations.

Many of the questions fans asked had to do with their relationships, times working on the old episodes, and who the best and worst guest stars were, but later inquiries were more specific with asking about how certain scripts would have been done differently today, highlighting the progressiveness of TNG and the franchise as a whole pushing boundaries. Frakes said that the studio wasn’t ready for everything they wanted to do, and McFadden cynically joked about how long it took before she was allowed to direct an episode. It was nice to hear the cast speak about their more recent adventures. John de Lancie comes off as a loveable curmudgeon, but when asked about the most iconic scenes between Q and his favorite captain, he spoke more about an interaction from the recent season of Picard. It was awesome to see that these actors can still play their characters at such a level, still thinking about them, and making new memories for the fans. They also spoke about the current programs, showing appreciation for what others who had come after them were doing. It was hard not to smile at all of this.

Last up was the Strange New Worlds Q&A, and there was no way I would miss seeing the stars of my favorite new Trek show, especially after that cliffhanger. There was an excellent grouping of speakers for this panel as well, Anson Mount (Captain Pike), Ethan Peck (Spock), Christina Chong (La’an Noonien-Singh), Babs Olusanmokun (Dr. M’Benga), and Bruce Horak (Hemmer). The TNG crew had such a solid rapport with each other after all those years together, but it was great to see that the SNW cast was almost as tight after only filming three seasons together (don’t worry, they’ll be on season 4 very soon). There were not quite as many ancient stories or esoteric jokes, but these colleagues were learning about each other – like when Christina asked about Babs fighting background and seemed genuinely surprised – showing they knew some of their co-stars’ likes and dislikes, as well as cracking jokes from the set. I can’t help but think it’ll be amazing to see their interactions years later and see how much closer they’ll become.

They all answered questions about their humor and how they approach their roles, and then someone wanted to know about Anson’s prep rituals for his scenes vocally, which ended up in him reciting a nearly three-minute auditorial exercise that I can only describe as a gibberish song. But he wasn’t the only one singing as the group went over their favorite musicals, and a couple of the panel members performed pieces from them. The show had a musical episode last season, and judging from this crowd and the number of questions asked about it, that was a hit. There were many more jokes between the cast members, playing off of the audience questions, and toward the end, people began asking about things they’d seen in the preview for this next season. It was wonderful hearing the actors sound just as excited about what was coming up as the fans did, and though they couldn’t say too much, there were a couple of behind-the-scenes tidbits that had the crowd listening intently. This is their job, but it sounded like this crew knew how much more this meant to us, and I also think to them.

Afterward, I was able to hit up the Walk of Fame, surprised I got through the massive line before it closed. I made the rounds and waited my turn to speak to a few of the people I had just seen on the panels. I’m not much of an autograph person, and I hate pictures of myself, so I just spoke quickly and didn’t take up any of their time if others were waiting for them. After a brief hello with Christina Chong and praising her singing, I caught Tawny Newsome and Eugene Cordero back-to-back, telling them how much I appreciated Lower Decks and looked forward to seeing more from everyone on that show. Anson Mount and Jonathan Frakes both had lines and were busy signing items for fans, but I got to listen to them laugh and tell stories for a few minutes. Finally, I stopped by Bruce Horak’s booth, told him how much I appreciated Hemmer as a fellow albino (he’s not, but the character was), and we had a nice long discussion about his time on the show, his understanding of the species and how albinism worked for them, and then a pretty candid part about how people with this specific genetic mutation are treated in the medium. That honestly made my day for multiple reasons.

I hate to boil it down to everything sounding just so damn positive, but it kind of was. Each of these groups made it feel like they loved what they did and are doing, that they embraced the ideas of Star Trek and were glad to be a part of it, and that no matter what, no one can take that away from them. It also made me appreciate that fans are giving the new shows a chance while still offering the classics the love they deserve, and I walked out of the convention feeling like the future of this franchise was in excellent hands while the returning characters can still offer something and help elevate these new programs. So many fandoms are hard to get into and even tougher to willingly stay associated with, but I am so here for some Star Trek.

First Wave From New Star Trek Starships Die Cast Collection Revealed; Pre-Orders Open Today

trek movie news

| September 6, 2024 | By: TrekMovie.com Staff 29 comments so far

The baton for making die-cast Star Trek ships passed to Fanhome earlier this year and today we are getting our first look at the actual models from the first wave. The new Starship Collection launches in November and you can now pre-order ships to extend (or start) your collection.

Fanhome’s Starships Collection begins

Fanhomes’s new collection will cover all the modern Star Trek series including Picard , Strange New Worlds , Discovery , Lower Decks and Prodigy . Fanhome is working with Paramount Global to ensure the models are as accurate as possible and they will all be based on the original visual effects models that were used to make the effects for the show.

The new Official Star Trek Starship Collection is being sold as a monthly subscription service, much like the old Eaglemoss collection, and in fact the series is being supervised by Ben Robinson, who also headed up the Eagelmoss Star Trek products. Fanhome starts taking pre-orders today , September 6th, and the models are expected to ship to customers in early November. The list price for the first ship – the U.S.S. Titan-A (from Picard season 3) – is $44.95. Subsequent ships will be priced at $55.00, all with free shipping and you can cancel any time.

The ships in the collection are constructed with a combination of die-cast metal and high-quality ABS resin. The typical model measures between 7 and 9-inches (180-225 mm) long. The designs are all based on the original visual effects models that were used to produce the shows. Each ship in the new collection comes with a 16-page magazine that profiles the ship in the Star Trek universe and explores the design process with exclusive art and brand-new interviews with the production team.

Fanhome has more than 20 ships planned for the collection. There will also be several oversized replicas of the most significant ships, which will be approximately 11 inches (280 mm) long (available individually and to subscribers for a premium). Subscribers will also get other exclusive gifts. Pre-orders for the subscription service open today.

Ship models will also be available individually the month after they are made available for subscribers.  Individually purchased ships will be priced at $64.99 each plus $5 for shipping.

Will the window alignment be better with these?

Probably, but you won’t be able to see them on the Titan since Captain Shaw liked it dark.

Ùgh, I can answer my own question.

There’s some high res photos on some Facebook groups. Window alignment is terrible.

At these inflated prices, it’s a hard pass for me.

What is the window alignment problem? I’ve heard the term a lot, but it’s nothing that my eyes are obviously drawn to when I look at these pics.

What are people seeing that’s a problem?

I don’t collect these models myself but I have read that the die-cast windows aren’t always aligned correctly with the window paint.

The Titan-A / Enterprise-G model looks amazing!

I’ve never heard of an NAR ship designation before. Nice to see they added that. It’s a nice touch to add some “realism” to the ships to me. The Navy has similar ship designations for civilian/support ships that support military operations. Combat ships get the USS (United States Ship) designation while USNS (United States Naval Vessel) is designated a support ship. Likewise the Royal Navy does this with the HMS (His Majesty’s Ship) combat ships and RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary).

It’s from the Berman era. The Raven had an NAR registry.

What does NAR stand for?

From an Old time ‘Trekkie’ (the ORIGINAL SERIES), WE were told, at the First New York S.T.Conv., U.S.S., Meant United Star-Ship, NOT United STATES, Starship. Also, the disaster, that almost ended us, was the EUGENICS WARS !

It’s also been call United Space Ship.

NCC and NAR have never been described.

United Systems Starship (uggh, I know I know) was also mentioned, I think in TMOST.

Snugglepuff was clearly referring to what “USS” means in the context of the US Navy.

In the Star Trek universe, I always thought “USS” indeed meant “United Star Ship,” although I suppose it could also mean “United Starfleet Ship.”

IIRC, Malcolm Reed said that a relative served about a Royal Navy submarine called HMS Clement that suffered a Kursk-like disaster. So that abbreviation appears to survive until around that time at least.

eheh yes there is a drydock with reg NAR-30974. Funny, I use that as my WiFi SSID.

10.6″ XL Odyssey-class… sold!

Per the Fanhome site, other upcoming XL (up to12″) versions are: Enterprise-G-labeled connie 3, Voyager-A & Protostar

Disappointed to see those cursed stands are back. I’ve got a romulan warbird with a cracked nacelle due to the poor quality of these stands.

They straight up don’t deliver to Canada, at all. Looks like they lost out on a collective $1400 from this trekkie.

Apparently we’re not allowed to watch Prodigy either.

These all look nice but I just can’t get behind it fully at this price point. I will have to pick and choose instead of collecting all. I really wish that either Star Trek Micro-Machines or something similar would get a relaunch or maybe a line like the Star Wars Micro-Galaxy Squadron could happen but with Star Trek ships.

I would love a new wave of micro machines. They were awesome! A re-release and update are well over due

Not impressed with the lack of detail on the Farragut especially around the bridge, I’d expect more for $55

Why only shipping to US,UK or Germany???! They are losing so much business from global fans.

The run is limited also. They may not have faith in these selling well. After all, the DSC line cost Eaglemoss badly, they couldn’t give those ships away, LOL

I have every one of the Discovery line, and the 31st/32nd century Constitution class USS Armstrong NCC -325XXX is rumored to be made as it was a last minute cancellation when Eaglemoss went bankrupt. I tried to watch the show, didn’t like it, but loved the outlandish ship designs, especially the Voyager NCC-74656-J and USS Jubayr.

Star Trek is for Americans and Britts only. What are you even doing on this site.

Protostar in next wave, please and thank you.

I used to have the old pewter models that you could paint yourself, I think they cost $5-8 each

They need to get with Bandai to make some snap together model kits. Would give them all the money for those.

These expensive die cast things aren’t really for me, but cool for those that are into them that someone is continuing it.

Movie that came out year after 9/11 is being called the only film that captured attack perfectly

Movie that came out year after 9/11 is being called the only film that captured attack perfectly

People said the movie 'perfectly captures the feel and heartbreak' of the tragic day.

Niamh Shackleton

Niamh Shackleton

On the anniversary of 9/11, people are flocking to social media to highlight a movie they feel perfectly depicts the harrowing day.

Today (11 September) marks 23 years since nearly 3,000 people lost their lives as a result of four co-ordinated al-Qaeda attacks against the US .

While Americans gather around the country to commemorate loved ones, some are also reflecting on the deadliest terror attack by watching one particular movie , which has been praised for capturing the 'immediate mood of New York City ' in the days following the attacks.

25th Hour - directed by Spike Lee and based on David Benioff's book of the same name - follows the journey of Monty Brogan ( Edward Norton ) as he's about to go to prison to serve a seven-year sentence for dealing drugs .

While the movie isn't directly centred around the events of 9/11, the drama unfolds in the days after the attacks and has been praised for how it captures the 'feel and heartbreak that convulsed the city'.

Some movies released in the wake of the tragedy indeed cut out images of the World Trade Center, but Lee did the opposite.

In an interview with GQ in 2022, he said : "Like New Yorkers or Americans aren’t strong enough to see the image of the World Trade Center anymore, which I thought was f**king ridiculous. I thought that was weak."

The opening credits depict the Tribute in Light installation (Buena Vista Pictures Distribution)

In 25th Hour, Lee instead made New York City's grieving 'a character' within the film.

"I always felt art should reflect what's happening at the time. I was not going to run from that stuff. Hell no," he continued to tell GQ.

However, that doesn't mean Lee didn't proceed with extreme caution when trying to portray the aftermath of 9/11, telling The New York Times he knew it was 'still very painful' and 'will always be very painful for those who lost people'.

And people connected to the tragic day have appreciated Lee's filmmaking ever since and still talk about the film several years on from its release.

A Twitter user wrote last year: "I am sure there are movies which more effectively and comprehensively address #Sept11th but I don’t know if there is a film that better captures the immediate mood of New York City post-9/11 better than Spike Lee’s The 25th Hour ."

Another said: "The music and visuals of the opening credits of 25th Hour directed by Spike Lee perfectly captures the feel and heartbreak that convulsed the city in the days and weeks afterwards. The pain that permeated the city in the aftermath was so palpable it was indescribable."

And people have flocked to social media once more to speak out about the film on the anniversary of 9/11.

"As we head towards 9/11, my husband+I rather randomly watched 25th Hour directed by Spike Lee," someone penned.

"As native New Yorkers, ones who were right in the eye of that nightmare nearly [23] years ago, can't say I've seen a more powerful depiction of that moment. Essential viewing."

A second said: "Somehow less than a year after it happened, 25th Hour is the only film to accurately depict Post 9/11 America and make it interesting."

8 Ways Star Trek: Discovery Made Star Trek Better

After 57 years, star trek settles the truth about trelane's godlike species, star trek explains why it uses 'quadrants' despite the universe being infinite.

For the nearly 60 years that Star Trek has been a science fiction staple, fans have been forced to endure long waits between an initial promise made by the franchise and seeing that story come to fruition. Being a long-running science-fiction franchise almost inevitably comes with fallow periods where no new content is being produced. Like fellow long-runners Star Wars and Doctor Who , gaps between eras of Star Trek have sometimes lasted for years, and it wasn't always certain that there would be new Star Trek shows on the other side of the wait.

The streaming age hasn't necessarily made things better for Star Trek fans. Shorter seasons mean we spend less time with characters we'd like to get to know. The unpredictable schedules of streaming shows mean it's hard to know when any given season of Star Trek will arrive ... or how long it will be when it does. After Star Trek 's great year in 2022 , when there was a new Star Trek story nearly every week, the gaps between Star Trek stories seem longer than ever. There were, however, much longer waits in Star Trek .

10 13 Months+

Star trek: strange new worlds season 2 to season 3, star trek: strange new worlds, your rating.

Your comment has not been saved

Filming of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 was delayed by the SAG-AFTRA and the Writers' Guild of America strikes in 2023, so 13 months have passed since the Gorn attack on Federation colony Parnassus Beta in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 10 , "Hegemony". Some characters must survive the cliffhanger ending to be in Star Trek: The Original Series , but the fates of new characters like Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) still hang in the balance over a year later.

To tide fans over for the time being, Paramount provided a sneak peek clip of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 and teased that the upcoming season would arrive sometime in 2025. As of September 2024, an official release date for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 has yet to be confirmed , so the wait could wind up being much longer than 13 months.

9 17 Months

Star trek: discovery season 2 to season 3, star trek: discovery.

Not available

Less than a year had passed between Star Trek: Discovery 's first 2 seasons, so it was surprising that fans had to wait for 17 months to see what was on the other side of Discovery 's wormhole to the future, and how the USS Discovery would fare in the 32nd century. Star Trek: Discovery benefited from a longer period between seasons since Discovery season 3 acted as a soft reboot for Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery crew .

Freed from its 23rd-century setting, Star Trek: Discovery started to find its footing. With new missions to reunite a broken Federation and investigate the cataclysmic Burn, a new setting 900 years in the future, and great new characters like Cleveland Booker (David Ajala), the wait for Star Trek: Discovery season 3 could be overlooked.

8 19 Months

Star trek: prodigy season 1 to season 2, star trek: prodigy.

The wait between Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 and Prodigy season 2 should have been shorter than the 19 months it wound up being. Fans of all ages who enjoyed the adventures of the young USS Protostar crew anticipated Star Trek: Prodigy season 2, originally scheduled to stream on Paramount+ late in 2023. Those plans changed when Paramount canceled Star Trek: Prodigy and removed Prodigy season 1 from Paramount+ . It didn't matter that Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 was completed. The show would have to find a new home to be released.

Fortunately, the plan to save Star Trek: Prodigy worked when Netflix picked up Star Trek: Prodigy. Netflix added Star Trek: Prodigy season 1 to their streaming catalog on Christmas Day, 2023. All 20 episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 dropped simultaneously on Netflix on July 1, 2024, about a year and a half after it was initially expected.

7 24 Months

Star trek: picard season 1 to season 2, star trek: picard.

The 24-month wait between Star Trek: Picard season 1 and season 2 wasn't nearly as long as the 18-year wait between the release of Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002 and Patrick Stewart's 2020 return as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Picard season 1. After a relatively normal 11-month wait between the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery , the already-long stretch between Star Trek: Picard 's first 2 seasons was exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic .

To prevent another 2-year gap between seasons, Star Trek: Picard was renewed for a 3rd season before Picard season 2 even aired, and Picard 's final 2 seasons were filmed back-to-back. This accommodated the schedules of Star Trek: Picard 's cast and crew, and allowed for the highly anticipated Star Trek: The Next Generation cast reunion in Star Trek: Picard season 3.

6 25 Months

Star trek: discovery season 4 to season 5.

The 24 months that passed between Star Trek: Discovery season 4 and Star Trek: Discovery season 5 were the longest period between Discovery seasons. On paper, the payoff seemed small, since season 5 was Star Trek: Discovery 's shortest season yet, with only 10 episodes. This seemed to be the new normal for Star Trek since the count matched Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Lower Decks ' 10-episode seasons.

It was worth it, though. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 was an action-packed adventure spanning space and time , with deliberate but organic nods to nearly every past era of Star Trek, and a mystery that paid off another long wait. Discovery season 5 finally expanded the story of the Progenitors from Star Trek: The Next Generation season 6, episode 20, "The Chase". Unfortunately, Star Trek: Discovery season 5 was also the end of Discovery — but with Star Trek: Starfleet Academy coming soon , more 32nd-century adventures won't be too far away.

Star Trek Beyond to Star Trek 4

Star trek 4.

From 2009 to 2016's Star Trek Beyond , J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movies sustained the franchise when it seemed like Star Trek was done with television shows. With the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery in 2017, however, Star Trek 's streaming era has pivoted attention away from the Kelvin Timeline films and sent Star Trek 4 into development limbo for 8+ years.

In those 8 years, Star Trek 4 has taken various forms, with multiple rewrites and a revolving door of directors, ranging from Quentin Tarantino to its current attached director, Andor 's Toby Haynes. Plot details of Star Trek 4 are still under wraps, though if Abrams' Star Trek movies continue to pay homage to their Prime Universe counterparts, time travel may be involved. If and when Star Trek 4 happens, it will be the last Kelvin Timeline Star Trek movie for Chris Pine's James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto's Spock, and Zoe Saldaña's Nyota Uhura.

Star Trek: The Original Series to Star Trek: The Motion Picture

Star trek: the motion picture.

After Star Trek: The Original Series was canceled for the third and final time in 1969, there was no guarantee that fans would actually reunite with Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) , Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and Dr. Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley). A strong showing in syndicated reruns prompted the creation of Star Trek: The Animated Series in 1971, but the Filmation cartoon rarely matched the quality of live-action Star Trek .

Interest in continuing the Starship Enterprise's live-action adventures peaked with the success of Star Wars in 1977 , proving that audiences really would come out to theaters for a space-based sci-fi movie. Elements of Roddenberry's failed Star Trek spin-off , Star Trek: Phase II , were folded into a new script, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture hit theaters in 1979, 10 years after Star Trek: The Original Series aired its final episode.

Star Trek: Enterprise to Star Trek: Discovery

Between the end of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2005 and the premiere of Star Trek: Discovery in 2017, 12 years passed in which fans were unsure that Star Trek would ever return to television. Star Trek: Discovery represented Star Trek 's rebirth into a new television landscape , with a new format on streaming service CBS All Access (now Paramount+), deep serialization, and a darker vision of the future than Star Trek had ever had.

Say what you will about Star Trek: Discovery, but the divisive show undoubtedly added to the infinite diversity of the Star Trek franchise.

Star Trek: Discovery was a new and different take on Star Trek that built off of the way that J.J. Abrams' Kelvin Timeline films reinvigorated the franchise. Despite its rocky start, Star Trek: Discovery nonetheless blazed a trail for new Star Trek series of the 21st century to follow , just as Star Trek: The Next Generation had done in the 1980s and 1990s.

Star Trek: The Original Series to Star Trek: The Next Generation

Star trek: the next generation.

After the 1969 cancelation of Star Trek: The Original Series , Star Trek fans lacked an ongoing Star Trek television series for 18 years. The premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987 promised a brand-new take on Star Trek , with a full century separating Captain Kirk's original Enterprise and the 24th-century adventures of the brand-new USS Enterprise-D crew under Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Although there were purposely very few references to Star Trek: The Original Series in Star Trek: The Next Generation , the TNG premiere, "Encounter at Farpoint", guest starred DeForest Kelley as Dr. Leonard McCoy to cement the connection between the old and new series.

Fans were initially skeptical of a new Enterprise and a new crew, not to mention Michael Dorn's Lieutenant Worf as the first Klingon in Starfleet . Of course, Star Trek: The Next Generation endured for 7 years and became the definitive Star Trek for a whole new generation of fans, spawning Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager as spin-offs of its own, as well as 4 Star Trek: The Next Generation movies.

Star Trek “The Cage” to Strange New Worlds

With the longest time between a pilot and production of a Star Trek show, it took 58 years to make the show that Roddenberry first promised with the 1965 pilot of Star Trek: The Original Series , "The Cage". As a TOS prequel, Star Trek: Discovery season 2 hinted at the voyages of a pre-Kirk USS Enterprise, including Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Commander Una-Chin Riley (Rebecca Romijn), and Lieutenant Spock (Ethan Peck). Fan demand for a Star Trek series led by Discovery 's charismatic Enterprise trio inspired the creation of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in 2022.

We've collectively breezed past the criticism that "The Cage" faced in its day.

Star Trek itself is responsible for much of the social progress that let Star Trek: Strange New Worlds exist, as we've collectively breezed past the criticism that "The Cage" faced in its day. Star Trek 's female captains have combated the skepticism of NBC executives protesting Number One (Majel Barrett-Roddenberry) as a First Officer. Modern audiences seek out smart storytelling, and Star Trek delivers , with an ever-expanding franchise that honors different demographics and tastes. The success of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds proves that some things are well worth the long waits that Star Trek fans have had to endure.
