  • Trivia Despite being set in Bali, Indonesia, the film was filmed in Queensland, Australia.
  • Goofs Lily is supposed to be starting work as an attorney after she returns from Bali, a trip she departed for immediately after graduating from college. However, in the United States, attorneys (in most circumstances) must attend three years of law school after college and then take the bar exam in the state they intend to practice in; furthermore, the bar exam is only given in July and February. She would most likely be too busy studying for the bar to take an extended trip to Bali.

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are embarking on a new adventure with their Ticket to Paradise . The Ocean’s Eleven alums are back and fabulously so in the all-new tropical rom-com, playing a divorced couple at odds. Ticket to Paradise is directed by Oliver Parker, who is known for previously writing and directing Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again . Parker is also the writer of the movie, along with Daniel Pipski . Roberts and Clooney also serve as producers on the movie, along with Tim Bevans , Eric Fellner , and others.

The story follows two divorced parents who are traveling to Bali to stop their daughter from a spontaneous wedding because they think she’s throwing her life away for love and making the same mistakes as her parents did years ago. And to do that, the couple must work together and hatch a plan to disrupt the wedding and probably get it canceled, except, things don’t go as they planned.

Ahead of the movie’s release this fall, check out everything we know so far about Ticket to Paradise . From the plot to the cast and characters, and the trailer, you can get all the details below.

Universal Pictures released the official trailer for Ticket to Paradise in June 2022 and from the first look, it appears gorgeous and colorful, thanks to the tropical island setting of Bali. The nearly three-minute trailer sets, not just the expectation, but also the entire plot of the movie. From the moment they encounter each other on the plane, there’s endless bickering and passive-aggressive exchange between the couple, which of course becomes the premise for these characters. But that also defines the story’s appeal. Their interactions are hilarious and sometimes, cute, as they try to work towards their plan of “saving” their 20-something daughter, and it makes the characters more endearing. The major highlight of the movie though, as is obvious from the trailer, is the dynamic duo of Roberts and Clooney, looking as charming and funny as they did in their last on-screen appearance.

The trailer practically lays out the entire plot and what to expect, since there’s no big surprise that would need to be hidden. What we can look forward to in the movie is how far the parents would go with their plan and whether they will fail or succeed in their attempt to thwart the wedding.

As of now, the details of all the characters of Ticket to Paradise are not available. However, from what we have learned from the trailer and promos, here’s the list of main cast members and the characters they're playing:

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are headlining the cast of Ticket to Paradise . The duo has a long history of co-starring, starting with Ocean’s Eleven and its sequel, Ocean’s Twelve , where they play each other’s love interests. The actors also appeared together in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind , and Money Monster . Julia Roberts plays Lily’s mother and George Clooney plays the father. Further details about their characters have not been revealed yet. But we do know that they are a divorced couple who simply despise being in each other’s presence. They are in Bali only to stop their daughter’s wedding.

Ahead of the movie's release, Roberts and Clooney sat down with Collider's Steve Weintraub for a talk about how they prepare for playing drunk on camera, getting ready to film something emotional, and also revealed the first thing you should watch if you've never seen their work before. Check out the video here:

Besides the reunion of these two Hollywood legends, the cast of Ticket to Paradise also includes Kaitlyn Dever as Lily, the 25-year-old daughter of Clooney and Roberts's characters. She fell in love with a guy in Bali on her graduation trip and decided to get married there, which is the reason why her parents, despite all the odds between them, are in Bali together. Maxime Bouttier plays Gede, the young man from Bali who Lily is in love with and wants to marry. He seems to be a nice guy and even Lily’s dysfunctional parents seem to like him. Billie Lourd plays Wren Butler; Lily’s friend who is in Bali with her and Gede for the wedding.

Other cast members include Lucas Bravo , Rowan Chapman , Sean Lynch , Romi Paulier , and Murran Kain , among many others.

The principal photography for Ticket to Paradise was conducted in Queensland, Australia, between November 2021 and February 2022. The romantic comedy-drama has been filmed across various locations in Australia including the Whitsunday Islands, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Tangalooma Island Resort on Moreton Island, and The Palm Bay Resort on Long Island.

Ticket to Paradise is not one story, but several stories overlapping each other. For starters, it does seem to be about two parents trying to help their daughter save herself from a life-changing mistake. Once married for five years, and been in and out of each other’s lives for 19 years, Lily’s parents cannot stand the sight of each other. In simple words, they just hate being in each other’s presence. Yet, they are trying hard to get through this vacation so they can sabotage the wedding that they think is wrong for their child. Yes, there are some parallels to HBO Max's 2022 version of Father of the Bride . But that’s not all that there is in this movie.

This is Lily’s story as well. She is marrying a guy she met only a few weeks earlier. After graduation, she spent some time in Bali and fell in love with a guy she believes can give her all the happiness in the world. No matter what her parents think, she is in love and all she expects from them is to be a part of the wedding without any drama or disaster. While the parents do their best and try to work as a team to put a stop to the wedding, Lily and Gede go about their lives, preparing for their big day. And seeing their determination, her parents could also be having second thoughts about their plans, and who knows, the circumstances might turn around and bring them closer.

Ticket to Paradise currently holds a 66% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 6.4/10 on IMDb. Read on for an excerpt from our review of the film written by Emma Kiely , who has given the movie a C- rating, or check out the full article here .

Despite its faults, one thing is for certain: Julia Roberts and George Clooney are having the time of their lives and there has to be something said for that. So often we see big stars doing movies that pay well, but they see it as beneath them - and it’s obvious that they’re not even trying to immerse themselves in the project. Roberts and Clooney - three Oscars between them and monikers as two of the best actors working today - do not fall into this category. They give it their all. Whether it's Georgia being disgustingly cutesy with her younger pilot beau ( Emily in Paris ’s Lucas Bravo is undoubtedly the comedic highlight of the movie) or David getting hit by a CGI dolphin, the two legends are game.

Everything To Know About Ticket To Paradise

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are (finally!) back together on the big screen.

US actor George Clooney and US actress Julia Roberts attends at the photocall for 'Money Monster' at...

Julia Roberts and George Clooney are set to reunite on the silver screen in a big way this year, thanks to upcoming rom-com Ticket to Paradise . On the heels of J. Lo’s movie Marry Me , Ticket to Paradise refreshes the genre with familiar actors taking on a zany plot. The flick, directed by Ol Parker (of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again fame) is the latest on-screen collab between Clooney and Roberts, a friendship that’s spanned over 20 years since they met on the set of Ocean’s Eleven . In that time, they’ve worked on 4 movies together , with Ticket to Paradise marking their fifth, forging one of Hollywood’s most iconic bonds.

In an interview with Variety at the Cannes Film Festival , Roberts took a moment to talk about the upcoming feature and joke about her experience filming with Clooney. Jokingly, she said the movie is “probably going to be terrible” because of how funny her and her co-star are, claiming “there’s too much potential for it to be great, it’ll just implode on it itself.” If Roberts’ words are anything to go by, Ticket to Paradise sounds like a treat.

So, what can we expect from the A-list acting duo in Ticket to Paradise ? Everything from an in-flight argument to drunken beer pong in Bali. With the help of some of Hollywood’s favorite up-and-comers, the rom-com is shaping up to be a modern classic in the genre’s canon. Here’s everything you need to know about Ticket to Paradise, including the plot, cast, trailer, and release date.

Ticket to Paradise Plot

The official synopsis of the film details Clooney and Roberts as “exes who find themselves on a shared mission to stop their lovestruck daughter from making the same mistake they once made.” Based on the trailer, the pair agree to “call a truce” with one another to successfully trick their daughter (played by Kaitlyn Dever) into dumping her fiancé, who she met recently in Bali, before she impulsively marries him. The ex-couple’s characters are concerned that their daughter is making this big decision too quickly, “just like her mother did,” Roberts says in the preview.

Julia Roberts, George Clooney sitting next to each other on a boat with Kaitlyn Dever, Maxime Boutti...

The trailer gives further hints to what we can expect from Ticket to Paradise , including playful competition and banter between Roberts and Clooney, Roberts’ character stealing her daughter’s wedding rings, and Clooney’s character being bit by a dolphin. A brief dance montage of the two closes the trailer out, promising viewers a goofy, enjoyable rom-com.

Ticket to Paradise Cast

Clooney and Roberts are the star-appeal in this forthcoming flick, but the supporting cast is stacked as well. Dever ( Dear Evan Hansen ) plays the pair’s daughter while newcomer Maxime Bouttier plays alongside as Dever’s love interest. Billie Lourd ( American Horror Story: Cult ) and Lucas Bravo ( Emily in Paris ) round out the main cast.

Ticket to Paradise Trailer

The official trailer for the film was released on June 29, giving audiences a chance to see the island hijinks Clooney and Roberts get up to in the film. The dreamy, beachy backdrop of Ticket to Paradise is on full display in the almost 3-minute trailer, full of bright colors and clever one-liners from the cast.

The tension between the two in the first few seconds of the trailer is evident, as the exes realize they’re seated next to each other on a flight. “Excuse me, ma’am, I need to sit somewhere else,” Roberts’ character said, “we used to be married.” Clooney responds, “worst 19 years of my life” before quipping with Roberts: “We were only married for 5,” she says, “I’m counting the recovery,” he fires back.

Ticket to Paradise Release Date

Because the Universal film was set back a month while filming in Australia due to lockdown, the release date has been slightly modified. Ticket to Paradise is officially hitting theaters October 21, and we can’t wait to see Clooney and Roberts reunited on the big screen.

George Clooney and Julia Roberts Return to Rom-Com Roots in "Ticket to Paradise" Trailer

David (George Clooney) and Georgia (Julia Roberts) in "Ticket to Paradise."

George Clooney and Julia Roberts are not feeling the love in the first trailer for their much-anticipated reteaming, "Ticket to Paradise."

The movie veterans are back in rom-com form as exes reunited with a mission: putting a stop to their daughter's ( Kaitlyn Dever ) impending nuptials, set to happen in just days. "Our daughter's gonna marry a guy she just met in Bali, millions of miles from home," Clooney's character laments in the trailer. The exes put aside their differences (despite some passive aggression — and "aggression aggression") to work together to "trick" their daughter into not saying "I do."

The clip also includes a lively game of beer pong and bad dancing — set to House of Pain's "Jump Around," thanks to costar Billie Lourd's character.

Clooney, 61, and Roberts, 54, have starred together on screen many times before, in films like "Money Monster" and — most notably — the Ocean's Eleven franchise. This outing is directed by Ol Parker, of "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again." Read on for everything we know about "Ticket to Paradise" so far.

Ticket to Paradise: cast, plot and release date of George Clooney and Julia Roberts’ new rom-com

George Clooney and Julia Roberts are back together on screen, and this time they’re playing a divorced couple David and Georgia who are forced to unite in order to stop their daughter from getting married to a Bali local.

It sounds like a convoluted premise, but critics are, on the whole, loving it: “This preposterously fluffy rom-com recycles huge chunks of Mamma Mia!,” wrote The Standard‘s chief film critic Charlotte O’Sullivan in her review . “If you’re in the mood for a great escape, you’ve basically just won the lottery.”

It’s the first proper rom-com that both Clooney and Roberts have acted in in decades, and it’s also the first time the actors have starred in a film together (though they have worked together five times previously – including as a feuding ex-couple in Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve).

Here’s everything else to know about the highly anticipated film.

Who else is in it?

Kaitlyn Dever, whose previous credits include Booksmart, Dear Evan Hansen and Beautiful Boy, plays Roberts and Clooney’s daughter Lily.

Billie Lourd (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) plays Lily’s best friend (and apparently she’s incredible in the role), French actor Lucas Bravo (the hunk from Emily in Paris) plays Georgia’s pilot boyfriend and French actor Maxime Bouttier plays Lily’s fiancé Gede.

What else do we know about the plot?

The antics begin when art dealer Georgia and architect David’s daughter Lily plans to marry a Bali local (who she has just met) instead of pursuing a promising legal career. The duo happen to meet up on the plane on the way to her wedding and decide to put aside their differences for the sake of their daughter.

“I won’t let her throw her life away. We need to trick her into dumping him,” says Roberts. “As much as this will pain us both, we have to call a truce to make this work.”

They plan to steal their daughter’s rings. What cunning – that way the wedding won’t be able to go ahead! All the while Clooney and Roberts are bickering, and as could be predicted, start to hate each other a little less.

travel to paradise cast

Are there any other production details?

As far as rom-coms go, Ticket to Paradise couldn’t have a stronger team behind it. The film has been directed by Ol Parker, who also wrote and directed 2018’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and it has been written by Parker alongside Daniel Pipski, whose previous credits include producing 2020’s miniseries A Teacher and 2008’s Milk.

Working Title, who was behind some of the late Nineties and early Noughties’ best rom-coms – think Notting Hill, The Matchmaker, Four Weddings and a Funeral, High Fidelity, Bridget Jones’s Diary and Wimbledon – are co-producers of the film.

Is there a release date?

The film was set to be released today, but has been delayed out of respect for the Queen.

In a statement shared with Deadline, Universal said: “With the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, Universal, Working Title, Julia Roberts, George Clooney and director Ol Parker have all decided to delay the opening of Ticket to Paradise in the UK.”

Ticket to Paradise will now be released on Tuesday, September 20.

What are the critics saying?

Critics are, more or less, thrilled by the forthcoming film, even when failing to back up their compliments with generous star ratings. “It’s a joy to watch Julia Roberts and George Clooney fall in love. It’s an even greater joy to watch them bicker,” wrote The Independent.

“Ticket to Paradise is going to make its producers a ton of money. Sometimes it’s nice to be told life’s a beach,” wrote The Standard .

The Financial Times called it “a sugary screwball served with a thick wedge of nostalgia”. That certainly sounds like high praise.

What have Clooney and Roberts said?

By all accounts, it seems that the Hollywood stars are delighted to be starring together in Ticket to Paradise. For Roberts, the last rom-com she headlined was the 2001 Joe Roth-directed America’s Sweethearts, while for Clooney, it has been even longer.

Speaking to the New York Times, Clooney said: “I hadn’t really done a romantic comedy since One Fine Day [which was released in 1996] — I haven’t succeeded like Julia has in that forum — but I read it and thought, ‘Well, if Jules is up for it, I think this could be fun.’”

Roberts added: “It somehow only made sense with George, just based on our chemistry. We have a friendship that people are aware of, and we’re going into it as this divorced couple. Half of America probably thinks we are divorced, so we have that going for us.”

She added: “George and I felt a lot of happy responsibility in wanting to make a comedy together, to give people a holiday from life after the world had gone through a really hard time.”

Ticket to Paradise will be released in UK cinemas on September 20

Ticket To Paradise - What We Know So Far

Roberts attends event

Two of the biggest names in Hollywood, Julia Roberts and George Clooney , teamed up again for a film. The two stars first shared the screen when they starred as exes in 2001's "Ocean's Eleven," quickly followed by the sequel, 2004's "Ocean's Twelve." Then, over a decade later, the pair collaborated again on the 2016 crime thriller, "Money Monster," directed by Jodie Foster. Now Roberts and Clooney star in their fourth project together, "Ticket to Paradise," a romantic comedy from Universal Pictures and Working Title.

The film is directed by Ol Parker, in what is just his fourth directing credit. Parker previously directed 2005's "Imagine Me & You," 2012's "Now is Good," and, most notably, 2018's "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" (via IMDb ). Parker also co-wrote the script with Daniel Pipski. While Parker has several writing credits to his name — such as 2011's "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel," as well as each of his directing credits — "Ticket to Paradise" will be Pipski's first (via IMDb ).

As reported by Deadline , Clooney and Roberts both also served as producers via their respective companies — Clooney for Smokehouse Pictures alongside Grant Heslov and Roberts for Red Om Films alongside Lisa Gillan, and Marisa Yeres Gill. Other producers included Working Title's Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Sarah Harvey, and Deborah Balderstone.

We have more details about the rom-com, "Ticket to Paradise," which premiered on October 21, 2022.

Who is in Ticket to Paradise?

Dever poses at event

As we know, veteran actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts star in "Ticket to Paradise." Clooney, also a frequent producer and occasional director, was most recently seen in the 2019 miniseries "Catch 22" and 2020's "Midnight Sky," directing and producing the latter. Roberts, meanwhile, most recently acted in the Amazon series "Homecoming" in 2018 and the Starz series "Gaslit" — she also produced both projects.

Additionally, the "brilliant person" director Ol Parker was excited to cast none other than rising star Kaitlyn Dever, who was added to the film in April 2021 (via Deadline ). Dever rose to prominence with her leading role in the Olivia Wilde-directed comedy "Book Smart" in 2019, before landing a prominent role on the Netflix drama "Unbelievable," the latter of which landed her a Golden Globe nomination. She also appeared in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Dear Evan Hansen" and co-starred in the Hulu miniseries "Dopesick" (via IMDb ).

Finally, rounding out the cast is Dever's "Booksmart" co-star Billie Lourd. Along with "Booksmart," Lourd has also taken on roles in the four most recent "American Horror Story" stories, as well as one episode of "American Horror Stories" (via IMDb ). Additionally, she portrayed Lieutenant Connix in the most recent "Star Wars" films, beginning with 2015's "Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens," alongside her mother, Carrie Fisher .

What is the plot of Ticket to Paradise?

Lourd attends awards

According to Deadline , in "Ticket to Paradise," Julia Roberts and George Clooney play exes who, upon hearing about their daughter's intention to get married, team up to stop her from "making the same mistake they once made." Kaitlyn Dever plays the daughter of the formerly married couple.

It's refreshing to see two older actors, Roberts and Clooney, at the forefront of a romantic comedy story, which is still on the rarer side. Seeing Roberts and Clooney play ex-lovers — a dynamic they portrayed in "Ocean's Eleven" — will be a treat for their fans and rom-com fans alike. Plus, knowing that Roberts and Clooney already have chemistry makes seeing "Ticket to Paradise" that much more exciting.

Ticket to Paradise sees Julia Roberts and George Clooney back together on the big screen.

Not only are we excited to have the pair together again one of the biggest new movies in 2022 , but we're also thrilled to have them back in the rom-com space. It’s hard to believe that Notting Hill star Roberts hasn’t been in a romantic comedy in over two decades and we’re glad to see her back at it.

The duo has a long history of working together, dating back to 2001’s Ocean’s Eleven and the sequel Ocean’s Twelve (2004), along with 2016’s Money Monster .

This time around they’re playing a divorced couple going to great lengths to keep their daughter from making the same mistakes they did, only it doesn’t go quite as planned. Much of the movie’s charm (as evidenced by the trailer) comes from seeing the hilariously contentious relationship between Roberts and Clooney as they try to work together no matter how hard it is to be in close proximity to each other.

What to Watch reviewed Ticket to Paradise and called it a "return ticket to the classic rom-com."

Ticket to Paradise has a run time of one hour and 44 minutes.

Here’s everything we know about Ticket to Paradise.

Ticket to Paradise reviews

Ticket to Paradise is proving to be one of those movies that was generally panned by critics but loved by audiences. As of this writing, the movie is sitting on a 56% from 144 critics on Rotten Tomatoes , but it's at 80% from the audience.

It has an IMDB Metascore of 51, with an IMDB rating of 6.4/10.

Chris Knight of the National Post had this to say: " Ticket to Paradise is an old-school rom-com from start to finish. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel or even give it particularly fresh treads but, to be fair, it’s clearly not trying to either."

Rolling Stone's David Fear offered this: "While no one could accuse Ticket to Paradise of being a 'great' movie, or even a 'very good' one, there’s something about watching Clooney and Roberts butt up against each other in front of a screen-saver background that scratches a long-dormant itch."

Ester Zuckerman of Bloomberg didn't love the movie, but offered this: "Watching Ticket to Paradise , the new starry theatrical rom-com, you may occasionally find your mind drifting. Hey, you might think, if nothing else, George Clooney and Julia Roberts got a great vacation out of this experience. I bet they had fun."

How to watch Ticket to Paradise

Ticket to Paradise was released exclusively in theaters on October 21 in the US and on September 20 in the UK. The UK release date was changed from September 16 out of respect to The Queen.

The movie will be available to stream on Peacock 45 days after its theatrical run.

What is Ticket to Paradise about?

Ticket to Paradise is the story of a former married couple, played by Roberts and Clooney, who travel to Bali to prevent their daughter, Lily (played by Kaitlyn Dever), from marrying a guy she’s just met. She’s head over heels in love with him and her parents believe that she’s about to make a big mistake.

They agree to team up to present a united front against their daughter’s plan to get married, but things don't go to plan at all.

Who is in the Ticket to Paradise cast?

Julia Roberts and George Clooney topline the cast of Ticket to Paradise . Joining them are Kaitlyn Dever, Billie Lourd ( Star Wars: The Last Jedi ), Lucas Bravo, Amanda O’Dempsey, Murran Kain, Vanessa Everett and Rowan Chapman.

We don’t yet have specifics on character names, but we’ll be sure to update them as they’re available.

Roberts recently spoke with The New York Times about returning to romantic comedies after so much time away from the genre. When she saw the script for Ticket to Paradise , she knew there was only one way it would work: with George Clooney. "Lo and behold, George felt it only worked with me. Somehow we were both able to do it, and off we went."

Is there a trailer for Ticket to Paradise?

Not surprisingly, the trailer for Ticket to Paradise sets up the entire movie. Bitter divorced couple trying to "save" their daughter, only to discover that working together again isn’t as bad as they thought it would be. Kind of. There’s still a lot of bickering and mayhem, which makes the movie all the more endearing.

‘Ticket To Paradise’ review: George Clooney and Julia Roberts

Think the romantic comedy genre is dead, at least as far as major studios are concerned? Think again.

Director and co-writer Ol Parker teaming George Clooney and Julia Roberts in Bali proves there is lots of life left in the rom-com formula if you have the right people involved and a smart sense of what makes this kind of one-time movie staple actually work.

Lily (Kaitlyn Dever) has graduated law school and now, with BFF Wren (Billie Lourd) in tow, is heading on a well-earned vacation to Bali for a couple of weeks. Cut to 37 days later, and Lily is still there and informing her parents she has met the love of her life, Gede (Maxime Bouttier), and plans to marry him and live on the island. Not much can bring these two parents together these days, but this news definitely does as each, unbeknownst to the other, immediately books a flight to stop Lily before it goes forward. In a hilarious sequence on the plane, they discover they both have the same idea, and it gets even more complicated when David learns that the pilot of the aircraft is Paul (Lucas Bravo), who also happens to be Georgia’s smitten, much-younger boyfriend.

One of the film’s best scenes shows off the genuine Clooney-Roberts chemistry as each has way too much to drink in the bar one night and hilariously demonstrate their dancing skills to the entire resort. They provide the answer to what makes rom-coms work: a likable and believable pair of superstars showing they are at heart a new-age Tracy and Hepburn — fully aware of their star wattage but never letting it get in the way of credibly creating two parents with a genuine concern for the one thing they got right. Will they also find each other again along the way? That would not be so easy, and this film, bright and sunny as it is, also is grounded in reality, always credible and, though it doesn’t rewrite the rules of romantic comedies, Ticket to Paradise truly shines as an example of how to make them seem new again.

This certainly is a show that belongs to its stars, but the supporting cast could not be better. Dever again shows that she is one of her generation’s real talents, and with Lourd hilariously stealing scenes, we have a welcome Booksmart reunion to boot. French star Bravo (Emily in Paris) is charmingly cast as the kind of well-meaning but maybe too-shallow guy that Georgia would find ripe for a fling but perhaps not much else. Indonesian actor Bouttier plays Gede with just right amount of sincerity to make us believe Lily has found that elusive one true love.

Ole Birkeland has supplied to gorgeous cinematography that probably will have audiences booking their next vacation straight to Bali (a second unit shot on the island but because of pandemic restrictions, and the film actually was shot in and around Queensland, Australia). Lorne Balfe’s sweet score compliments the comedy throughout.

Producers are Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, Deborah Balderstone and Sarah Harvey. Working Title is one of the production companies, and that makes sense as in that it produced such choice examples of rom-coms as Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones’s Diary and Love Actually. This one fits well in that group. Universal begins its North American release wide Friday exclusively in theaters, where it belongs. Ticket to Paradise already has been playing in several international territories, earning more $73 million so far. People need to laugh together again, and this will do the trick. Check out my video review with scenes from the film.

Here Are 18 Interesting Facts About The Making Of "Ticket To Paradise" That'll Make You Love The Movie That Much More

Who knew that George Clooney was a fan of "Jump Around"?

Devin Herenda

BuzzFeed Contributor

The recently-released rom-com Ticket to Paradise follows a pair of feuding ex-spouses ( George Clooney , Julia Roberts ) who travel to Bali, Indonesia, after learning of their daughter's ( Kaitlyn Dever ) upcoming wedding which comes after a whirlwind courtship. The two end up stumbling upon some forgotten emotions that remind them of why their romance first took off as they join forces and plot to stop the nuptials from taking place.

Here are 18 interesting facts about the film that'll prepare you to fall head over heels for Ticket to Paradise .

1. it's the first rom-com for julia in two decades ..

Julia Roberts as Georgia smiles on the beach in "Ticket to Paradise"

It's no secret that Julia has a history of starring in  some of the most iconic rom-coms of all time , such as  Pretty Woman ,  Runaway Bride ,  Notting Hill , and  My Best Friend's Wedding.  The last time the Oscar-winning actor led a rom-com was in 2001, when she portrayed Kiki Harrison in  America's Sweethearts. Ticket to Paradise  is an overdue return to the genre for Julia, who told the New York Times  in April 2022 that she said yes to the project due to the quality of its script.

"People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that’s gone by that I haven’t done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one," Julia said. "If I had read something that I thought was that  Notting Hill  level of writing or  My Best Friend’s Wedding  level of madcap fun, I would do it. They didn’t exist until [ Ticket to Paradise ]."

2. The lead roles were written specifically for George and Julia.

Director and screenwriter Ol Parker told the A.V. Club  in October 2022 that he wrote Ticket to Paradise with the intention of casting George and Julia in the main parts. The filmmaker stated that he had no backup plan if the two had declined the film, and he "wouldn’t make it" without them. Julia's character's name, Georgia, is a nod to George, and the original script also had a reference to Julia's first name.

"Literally, [Julia's] character’s called Georgia in the movie, and [George's character] used to be called Julius. [ Laughs ]," Ol said. "So, we’d just swapped their names. But then, it seemed a bit obvious when we sent it to them. So, he’s now called David, but the first three drafts, they were literally called Julius and Georgia rather than George and Julia. That’s how nakedly it was written for them."

3. It's the sixth time the two stars have worked together.

George and Julia, who have been good friends for over two decades in real life, have collaborated on a total of six films, with  Ticket to Paradise being their most recent joint project. Prior to this, the pair starred in Ocean's Eleven ,  Confessions of a Dangerous Mind ,  Ocean's Twelve , and  Money Monster , per  the New York Times . In addition, Julia acted in  August: Osage County , for which George served as a producer.

4. Ol Parker got the idea for the movie from his daughter.

British director Ol Parker (L) and daughter, Ripley Parker arrive for the premiere of "Ticket to Paradise" at the Regency Village Theatre in Westwood, California, on October 17, 2022

Ol and his wife, actor Thandiwe Newton, have three children together, including a daughter named Ripley who is in her early 20s. Ripley's journey of growing up and becoming independent inspired Ol to make a rom-com involving two parents trying to cope with their daughter's hasty choice to get married.

" ... My oldest daughter is 21 now, so she's making her own decisions in life. And so [the movie] came from that idea, like, what do we do about our children making decisions?" Ol said to Moviefone in October 2022.

5. Lucas Bravo couldn't sleep before filming a scene in which his and Julia's characters kiss.

Lucas portrays Paul, Julia's onscreen boyfriend, in Ticket to Paradise . Prior to carrying out a scene that required Lucas and Julia to kiss, Lucas was so stressed about this moment that he wasn't able to get a good night's rest.

"I couldn't really sleep," Lucas  explained to E! News  in October 2022. "I surely used a lot of mints and Listerine for the scene. You don't want to mess this one up."

Shooting the scene went smoothly, he added, as Julia "really made it very comfortable for [him]" and "broke the ice."

6. An epic beer pong scene in the film was not choreographed.

Georgia and David battle Lily and Gede in beer pong

Although the crew of Ticket to Paradise initially had plans to map out a scene in which Julia's and George's characters play beer pong against their daughter, Lily, and her fiancé, Gede (Maxime Bouttier), the two actors decided to take matters into their own hands.

"It was funny because when we got to the set, everyone was like, 'Okay, we're going to talk about the scene,'" George said to Entertainment Weekly . "Julia and I were like, 'Let's just shoot it, man. Don't worry. We know what to do. We've been down this road a few times.'"

Ol used the first take that was filmed, and George stated that "there was a real shock" among his costars when he landed a ping-pong ball in a cup on the first try.

"I think people thought we might warm up," Julia added. "They thought we'd start off a little slow, and we just came in going 100 percent from the beginning — and we left some people speechless."

7. This scene also features a hip-hop song that's a "go-to" of George's.

House of Pain's '90s rap hit "Jump Around" is included in the beer pong scene, and George and Julia dance along to the music. In real life, George revealed to Ol that the track is one of his favorites to conclude get-togethers.

"'Jump Around' is George's closer at parties," Ol said to Entertainment Weekly . "When I'd chosen the tracks and I sent them to them, George wrote back going, 'Nice — 'Jump Around' is my go-to dance song for the end of parties.' I was like, 'Cool, so that's going to be fine.'"

8. The people who play Maxime Bouttier's parents in Ticket to Paradise had never acted before performing in the rom-com.

In a Screen Rant chat, Ol shared that he and casting directors were having trouble finding the right actor to play Wayan, Maxime's onscreen father. Eventually, he ended up approaching a cultural consultant named Agung Pindha for the role after recognizing that he was "so handsome and charming and lovely" during a Zoom meeting.

"At the end of the meeting, we said, 'Would you mind coming out to my office?' He came up, and I was like, 'Could you just read that speech?'" Ol said. "He started reading, and I was like, 'You're hired!' He was like, 'What? What's going on here? What's happening?' I was like, 'Do you want to be in the movies? Okay!'"

Another newcomer in the movie is Ifa Barry, who plays Maxime's onscreen mother , Suli. Ol stated that she is a Brisbane passport officer before emphasizing the value in pairing George and Julia with costars who aren't trained actors.

"None of them are actors, so it's really good for George and Julia to work with people that aren't [actors]. It was just great," Ol said.

9. Maxime has said that Agung Pindha's guidance on the project led to "everything [being] portrayed correctly" in regards to Balinese culture.

When asked by Screen Rant  in October 2022 about the film's depiction of Balinese culture, Maxime, who grew up in Bali , opened up about Agung contributing as a consultant on the subject matter. This led to "everything [being] portrayed correctly," the performer explained.

"In pre-production, they were already having a consultation about that. My [onscreen] dad, actually, was consulting a lot about Bali culture," Maxime said. "We were talking a lot about that. I think everything was portrayed correctly, and it's subtle as well."

He added, "... [Agung] helped a lot. I think it was really well portrayed, and the Balinese people loved it. We were just very proud of it. It's just a really feel-good movie, to really show Bali to the world."

10. Kaitlyn's character was also written just for her.

TICKET TO PARADISE, from left: Kaitlyn Dever, Julia Roberts, 2022

When Ol spoke to  Screen Rant , he revealed that he'd become friendly with Kaitlyn prior to collaborating with the actor on  Ticket to Paradise . He had the Last Man Standing alum in mind to play Lily while writing the screenplay and felt that "it was always her" who should take on the part.

"That was also written for [Kaitlyn]. I had met her before, and we were friends already," Ol said. "She's obviously a once-in-a-generation actress, and also the nicest person. I remember meeting her at a party and saying, 'I'm writing something for you,' and she's like, 'Yeah, right.' Because that's, like, a chat-up line — which it wasn't, obviously. So, it was really nice to send it to her and go, 'You know that thing? I wasn't kidding.'"

11. In addition, her portrayal of Lily in Ticket to Paradise is Kaitlyn's first-ever rom-com role.

Kaitlyn Dever attends the premiere of Universal Pictures' "Ticket To Paradise" at Regency Village Theatre on October 17, 2022 in Los Angeles, California

Though she's tackled many film and TV roles throughout her career, which began at the age of 12  when she scored her first acting credit in An American Girl: Chrissa Stands Strong , Kaitlyn had never acted in a romantic comedy prior to  Ticket to Paradise . The Rosaline star felt early on that this movie was the right fit for her to try out the genre.

"I’d never done a rom-com before, and I’m always looking to do something different and work a different part of my brain," Kaitlyn said to STACK Magazine . "I think this script is immediately such a good time, and I knew that would mean a really good time on set, making the movie, and Ol is just so talented, so it was great."

12. Billie Lourd and Kaitlyn, who play close friends in the movie, are also besties in real life.

(L-R) Billie Lourd and Kaitlyn Dever attend the premiere of Universal Pictures' "Ticket To Paradise" at Regency Village Theatre on October 17, 2022 in Los Angeles, California

Billie portrays Wren, Lily's best friend who joins her for their post-graduation Bali vacation, during which Lily and Gede meet. She and Kaitlyn, who previously costarred together in Booksmart , are likewise close in real life, which made the part "an absolute dream" for Billie.

"Kaitlyn is one of my closest friends in real life, so to get to play her best friend on screen is just an absolute dream," Billie said at the Ticket to Paradise world premiere. "I am obsessed with her, and we got even closer on this movie. I'm obsessed with her family, I'm obsessed with her, I'm obsessed with her dog. I just love everything about that girl. She is heavenly."

13. The first day that George's wife, Amal Clooney, and their two children visited the set was the day he and Julia were scheduled to share a scripted kiss.

Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Amal Clooney attend the "Ticket To Paradise" World Film Premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on September 07, 2022 in London, England

George and Julia sat down with Today show anchor Hoda Kotb in October and were asked if it's awkward for them to kiss on screen like they did for Ticket to Paradise .

"It is when my wife and kids come by to visit," George said.

Julia explained that the filming of the kiss took place on "the first day they came to visit."

"It’s like, 'Papa, oh, Auntie Juju.' It’s like — 'Get 'em out, get 'em out!'" Julia said.

"It’s really bad," George said. "'What are you doing, Papa? What is that?'"

George then stated that his kids left the set while the kiss was being filmed.

14. George has stated that he's "really proud of" Universal Pictures for taking on "the gamble" of giving Ticket to Paradise a theatrical release.

Kaitlyn Dever, George Clooney, Lucas Bravo, Julia Roberts, Billie Lourd and Maxime Bouttier attend the World Premiere of "Ticket To Paradise" at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on September 7, 2022 in London, England

George expressed his pride in Universal Pictures for taking a chance on Ticket to Paradise in a recent Sirius XM interview,  the Wrap wrote . While George said that movie studios often feel "the gamble is too hard" to invest in films that aren't certain to earn a huge box office return, Universal made a statement by releasing the rom-com in theaters.

"I actually really applaud Universal for standing up and saying, 'No, we really want to do this. We want to open it in theaters,'" George said. "'Cause that’s another thing: They  are  making romantic comedies — they’re making 'em for Netflix and Amazon and saying, 'Here, that’s where they go now.' And so [ Ticket to Paradise ] is saying, 'No, we are still in the movie business,' and I’m really proud of them for doing that."

15. Ticket to Paradise is a rare chance to see George in a romantic comedy, and he said yes to the project on the condition that Julia also accepted the offer.

FILM 'ONE FINE DAY' BY MICHAEL HOFFMAN

"I hadn’t really done a romantic comedy since One Fine Day  [1996] — I haven’t succeeded like Julia has in that forum — but I read [ Ticket to Paradise ] and thought, 'Well, if Jules is up for it, I think this could be fun,'" George said to the New York Times in September.

George had previously  spoken to Deadline in January 2022 about not having done a rom-com in over 25 years. Before saying yes to Ticket to Paradise , he made sure that Julia was all in as well.

" ... In this one, Julia and I just get to be mean to each other in the funniest way, and the minute I read it, I called Julia, and I said, 'Did you get this?' and she said, 'Yeah,'" George said. "And I said, ‘Are you going to do it?’ and she goes, 'Are you going to do it?' and I said, 'Yeah, if you do it.' So, it was just one of those very lucky things."

16. George and Julia wore wetsuits while filming in a body of water to protect themselves from jellyfish that are "the size of your pinky nail" and cause cardiac arrest.

David and Georgia harvest seaweed in the water during a "Ticket to Paradise" scene

George and Julia sport wetsuits and act out harvesting seaweed in one scene that takes place in the water. In a  BBC Radio 1 interview  from October 2022, George and Julia explained that they wore these outfits to avoid getting stung by dangerous "tiny jellyfish," as there was a "whole infestation" of them in the surrounding area.

"There was this whole infestation of these tiny jellyfish, so we had to wear those hysterical suits," George said.

"Yeah. They're the size of your pinky nail, and you don't feel it when they sting you, but you have a cardiac arrest 30 to 40 minutes after," Julia added.

17. Costars Lucas and Maxime were roommates for a time during the production.

Lucas Bravo attends the "Love Brings Love" Show In Honor Of Alber Elbaz By AZ Factory at Le Carreau Du Temple on October 05, 2021, Maxime Bouttier attends the "Ticket To Paradise" World Premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on September 07, 2022

"Lucas and I were roommates for two weeks, so that was pretty special. Because we're both French, we kinda hit it off real quick, and that was really cool," Maxime said to Cosmopolitan Philippines . "There were some really nice moments [while shooting the film and] we [the cast and crew] were all pretty much family there because we ran into each other in the grocery every day. It's like a big house full of your family and friends."

18. Ol was initially "terrified" to work with the cast of Ticket to Paradise .

George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Ol Parker attend the premiere of Universal Pictures' "Ticket To Paradise" at Regency Village Theatre on October 17, 2022 in Los Angeles, California

When Ol  was asked on the red carpet  what his reaction was to learning he'd be working with his dream cast of actors such as George and Julia, he said that this was "a privilege," as well as a high-pressure scenario.

"Terrifying. Nothing but terrifying," Ol said of the situation. "Then, you realize, luckily, they're really lovely as well as really good. But I couldn't get out of bed on the first day. I was just terrified lying there, but then you think, 'This is what my 21-year-old self dreamt of.' ... Pressure's a privilege. So, yeah, all right in the end."

5 Lesser-Known Lakes In Italy To Add To Your Travel List

5 Lesser-Known Lakes In Italy

Italy’s natural landscapes are one of the major reasons why it’s a popular European destination for travellers. Its ancient ruins, cliffside villages and rolling vineyards appear to have leapt straight out from a fairytale. One of the country’s most dazzling natural wonders is its lakes. From Lake Como to Lake Garda, the biggest reason to visit them all is the spectacular scenery, alongside the opportunity to engage in outdoorsy pursuits like hiking, kayaking and mountain biking.

During your Italy trip, bookmark these five secret lakes for an experience you will never forget.

The picturesque Lake Ledro was created by the blocking of a moraine from the ancient Garda glacier

This picturesque alpine lake in the Trentino province was created by the blocking of a moraine from the ancient Garda glacier. Thanks to its splendid green colour and the crystal-clear water which reflects the surrounding mountains, Lake Ledro is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in Italy. Moreover, it is surrounded by dense forests in a fairytale-like landscape. Up to the 19 th century, the lake was almost cut off from the outside world. It became easier to access it in the 1980s when a new street leading into the Valle di Ledro was built. Lake Ledro is primarily known for an archaeological finding made in 1929 when the water level of the lake was brought down to align with the power station of Riva del Garda. Pile dwellings dating back to the Bronze Age, among other artefacts, were recovered. Today, visitors can fish, explore a 200-kilometre path , walk along the lake or refresh themselves in its cool water.

Lake Posta Fibreno

The small and serene Lake Posta Fibreno is home to a natural floating island

Recognisable for its narrow and elongated shape, Lake Posta Fibreno is part of the Lazio region’s Sistema dei Parchi e delle Riserve Naturali. This karstic lake covers an area of about 75 acres at an altitude of almost 300 metres above sea level. The small, serene lake is home to an unusual natural phenomenon known since Roman times . Described by Pliny the Elder in his 1 st -century “Naturalis Historia,” the lake is the setting for the subtle dances and movements of a natural floating island. Known as “Rota” for its round shape, it was formed over the years by free-floating rhizomes, peat and roots. It constantly changes position depending on the winds and currents, enchanting and intriguing visitors with its fluctuating dance. Posta Fibreno’s mild temperature and extraordinarily clear waters have made it a paradise for divers, kayakers, wildlife lovers and birdwatchers. The lake has no tributaries and it is fed by karstic springs, whose constant flow are responsible for the turquoise water’s remarkable transparent hue.

Lake Scanno

The heart-shaped Lake Scanno in the Abruzzo region

While romantics are enchanted by its heart shape, sportspeople and nature lovers are drawn to Lake Scanno’s rugged character. This lake in the Abruzzo region formed after a catastrophic landslide on Monte Genzana. While experts believe its origin dates back to some 3,000 years ago, a local legend places it further back in time: they say the lake was created during a war in which Roman soldiers faced Battifolio, a local king. Confronting his certain defeat, Battifolio cast a spell that showered the battlefield with water, thus forming the lake that prevented his enemies from advancing. The colours of the lake are a marvel, with contrasts, tones and shadows creating a mesmerising effect with the blue of the sky, the dense green of the vegetation and the white of the snow-capped peaks. When you’re here, you should swim, explore the trails with a mountain bike, fish and bird watch.

Lake Salto is the largest artificial lake in the Lazio region

Created in 1940 by damming the Salto River and the consequent submergence of the valley of the same name in Cicolano, Lake Salto is the largest artificial lake in the Lazio region. With its elongated and jagged shape, it looks like a huge river or fjord. The entire Valle del Salto is covered by dense forests along the mountain slopes that abruptly thin out by the lake. In the villages of Fiumata and Borgo San Pietro, you can find well-equipped bathing beaches where you can rent parasols, deckchairs, pedal boats and canoes. In recent years, the basin has become an important destination for wakeboarders and for fishing tourism.

Lake Molveno

Lake Molveno is the largest alpine lake in Italy to be located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level

Another scenic lake in the Trentino region is Lake Molveno. With a maximum depth of 124 metres, it is the largest alpine lake in the country that is located at an altitude of 800 metres above sea level. Its waters reflect the surrounding mountains of the Brenta Dolomites as well as the Paganella massif. Numerous rivers from the surrounding mountain chains flow into Lake Molveno, which is also bordered by dense forests. Inside the lake live a variety of fish such as trout, arctic char and perch while the surrounding reserve is where rabbits, chamois, roes and many other animals live. When you’re here, take a sailing trip across the water, relax on one of its many beaches or dive into its hidden depths.

A new ‘whodunnit’ drama miniseries has just landed on Netflix , loaded with twists, secrets and deception as a high-flying, wealthy US family tries to untangle what happened the night before a grand wedding, after one member of the party was found dead.

The Perfect Couple stars Nicole Kidman as the perfectly-groomed Greer Garson Winbury, an aloof best-selling author who is hosting the wedding of her son, Benji, at their decadent family mansion on Nantucket , the American island that, in real life, has a rich past of hosting billionaires in their summer residences and on private beaches . However, most of the filming actually took place in Cape Cod, just a few hours away on the mainland.

Outisder Amelia Sacks finds herself marrying into one of Nantucket’s wealthiest families, but their seaside mansion was actually located in Cape Cod

Plans for the big day change after a body is found washed up in the slow-rolling waves on the mansion’s beach early in the morning. The death sees an investigation by detectives into whether the victim died at the hands of someone else, and if so, who? As each member of the wedding party endures the police interrogations, more than one family secret comes to the surface.

Based on the novel by author Elin Hilderbrand, known as “the queen of the beach reads”, the Netflix adaption transports viewers to a world of serene coastline settings, exclusivity, and opulence.

Here is all you need to know about the glorious New England backdrop to the new binge-worthy series laced with cliffhangers and captivating landscapes.

Where is ‘The Perfect Couple’ filmed?

Nantucket, massachusetts.

Nantucket has hosted a number of billionaire and important families throughout the years, such as the Kennedys, the Bidens and Bill Gates

For Hildebrand, who created the Winbury’s world in her novel of the same name, something that was at the story’s core was its setting in Nantucket, a tiny island with a string of sandy, dune-backed beaches sitting off the coast of Massachusetts, USA.

The author told Tudum that the most important thing in the adaptation of her novel was that “Nantucket was done correctly.”

“I wanted the essence of Nantucket, which is sort of understated ease and entitlement of the place, to come across. And I’m sure it does because I’ve read the scripts,” she said.

Nantucket was not just the setting for the murder mystery; in fact, it was described by the season’s showrunner, Jenna Lamia. as one of the “main characters”, highlighting how a New England summer, complete with white-panelled mansions, private beaches and mid-century interiors, was essential to the storytelling.

Nantucket’s shoreline is scattered with luxury estates and pristine beaches

The island is around 30 miles south of Cape Cod, with a large number of its buildings being seasonal residences that families or tourists usually enjoy in the summer months.

Nantucket has a long maritime history realted to the whaling industry, immortalised in the Whaling Museum; the island served as a partial setting and inspiration for Herman Melville’s novel, Moby-Dick.

Now, it is well-known for being a tranquil haven and an idyllic island paradise, serving those who visit coastal hotels, exquisite seafood eateries, little boutiques and summer temperatures in the mid-twenties.

The Winbury’s Nantucket estate, Summerland, was to host the couple’s big day

The limited transportation to and from the island would be too hard for Netflix’s large production team and cast to navigate, so they settled on the equally picturesque Cape Cod.

The producers still captured various elements of the island, such as featuring Greer’s latest novel at Mitchell’s Book Corner bookshop, the Brotherhood of Thieves restaurant and the tall ship Lynx , moored in the Nantucket harbour.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts

The waterfront mansion is found in the upmarket Eastward Point neighbourhood in Chatham

The production team said it was not hard at all to make the seaside town of Chatham look like that of the exclusive neighbourhood the Winburys would live in.

Found at the southeastern tip of Cape Cod, Chatham was used as the filming location for the Winbury’s fictional Summerland estate, a private property in the Eastward Point neighbourhood on the coast, also known to several family homes complete with private beaches facing out to Pleasant Bay, according to the Cape Cod Times .

Chatham boasts bright white facades, small boutiques and a thriving fishing community

Other areas of Chatham were also used to capture the wealth and glamour essence of a New England backdrop, such as Eastward Point’s beach and the private members Chatham Beach and Tennis Club , which can be found on Lighthouse Beach, reports House & Garden.

Elwood’s Raw Bars, a seafood eatery in Chatham, was redecorated on the outside to serve as the Nantucket Police Department headquarters, where many interrogations went down during the twisty thriller. The town is known for its pristine beaches, circular coves and spectacular wildlife , with the Monomy Natural Wildlife Refuge that encompasses a haven for migrating birds, harbour seals and sharks.

The centre of Chatham has kept its historic charm, with its Main Street lined with bright white wooden buildings, charming boutiques that have established the town’s prominent shopping reputation, and high-end eateries.

Chatham hosts a number of private beaches along its Cape Cod waterfront

Like its Nantucket neighbour, Chatham also has its roots in the fishing industry, and still has a thriving fishing village that coexists alongside Chatham’s stylish neighbourhoods. A trip down to Chatham Lighthouse on the beach will complete any maritime-fuelled experiences in the town.

‘The Perfect Couple’ is available to stream on Netflix now.
