Live reviews

If you ever have the chance to see The Dead Weather live then run, don't walk, and go see them, you may not get another chance. The Dead Weather are made up of Jack White of the White Stripes (drums, vocals, guitar; Alison Mosshart (vocals, guitar) from the Kills; guitarist Dean Fertita from Queens of the Stone Age and bassist Jack Lawrence from the Racontuers.

Put all these artists together and they are magic on stage. Each member has their own thing going on so to be able to witness this band live is a rare treat. The Dead Weather move through musical styles flawlessly. From the slow moving groove of "60 feet tall" to the gritty rocking, "I cut like a Buffalo", The Dead Weather can do no wrong.

Although Jack White is the drummer for this band, it is not uncommon for him to come out from behind the drum kit and stand front and center and do what he does best, play guitar.

The Dead Weather have 2 albums under their belts but their setlist is not limited to these albums. They may play a song from any of the band members aforementioned bands or an endless supply of covers from virtually any band that has ever existed. You never know what your going to get as far as song selection, what you do know is that The Dead Weather will nail it every time.

You may also like, the dead weather.

Born as a one-off collaboration between friends and tour mates, The Dead Weather has since evolved into one of the most vital and provocative bands in contemporary rock ‘n’ roll. Together Jack White, Alison Mosshart, Dean Fertita, and Jack Lawrence have created a dark magic all their own, a heavy brew of melding heavy riffs, thick beats, and blues snarl with raw soul power and unrelenting sexual energy. “DODGE AND BURN” – The band’s third album and first full-length release in five years – sees The Dead Weather pushing their creative line of attack to its very limits on ferocious tracks like “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)” and the brutally beautiful “Buzzkill(er)”.

The Dead Weather first united after Alison Mosshart’s band The Kills supported Jack White and Jack Lawrence’s band The Raconteurs on a string of North American dates. The trio followed the tour with a few informal recording sessions at White’s famed Third Man studio, soon augmented by Raconteurs collaborator/Queens of the Stone Age multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita. The result proved extraordinary – The Dead Weather’s debut album, “HOREHOUND,” arrived in July 2009 to worldwide critical acclaim and a top 10 Billboard 200 chart debut. The four musicians celebrated the release with a 23-date North American tour before reconvening at Third Man in December for three further weeks of writing and recording.

Released less than a year after their debut, “SEA OF COWARDS” made it abundantly clear The Dead Weather had become more than a side project – White, Mosshart, Lawrence, and Fertita were now a band. Ultimately named among the top 15 on Rolling Stone’s “30 Best Albums of 2010,” “SEA OF COWARDS” drew rave reviews for its aggressive song craft and overwhelming intensity, as did a worldwide tour highlighted by sold out headline dates and show stopping appearances of such legendary festivals as Coachella, Glastonbury, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Since then, The Dead Weather collective has remained busy as ever, constantly adding new milestones to their already-illustrious resumes.

The Dead Weather (Jack White’s new project) reveals tour dates and debut LP details

Dead Weather - Horehound

However, the band’s officials have seen fit it’s time to throw a bone or two and a few interesting news have been released. Seems Dead Weather’s debut record, dubbed “ Horehound “, will be out July 14 on Jack White’s own Third Man imprint via Warner Bros , while in the UK it will show up a bit early, on the 13th. On the left, you can check out the cover art, depicting lead singer Alison Moshart looking all mysterious, in a cool, non-creepy way.

Moreover, the band has also revealead dates for a massive forthcoming summer North American tour, set to kick off with a few sporadic dates in  Louisville, London, and Paris around June, before really getting into business on July 13th in D.C. Dates and a few Dead Weather live videos from New York’s Bowery Ballroom can be seen bellow.

The 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., is ground zero for a blistering assault of explosive riff-rock, courtesy of The Dead Weather , in this full concert webcast live on NPR Music. The newly formed band is a supergroup featuring members of The White Stripes and The Kills .

The Dead Weather is on tour to support its debut album, the ominously titled Horehound . It's a dark, swampy collection of blues-infused rock songs that sound as heavy as you might expect, given the artists behind them. The Dead Weather features White Stripes frontman Jack White on drums, The Kills singer Alison Mosshart on vocals, The Raconteurs ' Jack Lawrence on bass and Dean Fertita, from Queens of the Stone Age and The Raconteurs, on guitar.

The Dead Weather formed toward the end of a recent tour for The Kills and The Raconteurs. Jack White, who also plays in The Raconteurs, had lost his voice to bronchitis and asked Mosshart to take over on vocals. The two loved the energy they had together — as well as the new sound Mosshart brought to The Raconteurs' songs — so they decided to record a seven-inch single together. After pulling Fertita in on the project, The Dead Weather spawned a two-week studio session in Nashville, Tenn., and a full-length album.

Horehound is out on Jack White's Third Man Records label, the same imprint behind The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.

Alison Mosshart discusses the chances of a new Dead Weather album and tour

'We love it. There's never pressure, that's the way it is'

Jack White and Alison Mosshart in The Dead Weather

Alison Mosshart has discussed the chances of The Dead Weather reuniting for a new album and tour – saying that it could happen as soon as the members each find the time.

The Dead Weather consists of Mosshart of The Kills , Jack White , Dean Fertita of Queens Of The Stone Age , and Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs. They have not released a live album since 2015’s ‘Dodge And Burn ‘, and have not done a full live tour since 2010.

Asked about her current work outside of The Kills, Mosshart told NME: “I’ve been singing on people’s records. I’m designing clothes right now, I’ve been designing all sorts of things. Kind of juggling about 16 projects which are really exciting – none of which I really wanna talk about because you never know what will happen and what doesn’t happen.

“I’ve been busy and it’s been a good year in that way; lots of really fun stuff and creative stuff has come my way. It’s been good. So, Dead Weather…Dean is totally in Queens of the Stone Age land, they just finished a record . I’m sure he’s gonna be touring for the rest of his life, again.

Mosshart added: “Jack is doing his own thing. Everyone’s kind of tied up. Dead Weather is a band where the second we all find a day that we’re in town together, and we don’t wanna have to run off on tour, we’ll go into the studio and record something, because we love it. There’s never pressure, that’s the way it is.”

QOTSA are gearing up to release their new album and hit the road for a summer of festival dates . It was reported that the band had ‘finished’ recording the album in March, and that new material would be unveiled in the coming months.

29-year-old mother killed while attempting selfie near oncoming train

HIDALGO, Mexico (WKRC) - A mother was killed after she attempted to snap a selfie near an oncoming vintage train.

According to The Daily Mail , 29-year-old Dulce Alondra had taken her young son to see a vintage train pass through Hidalgo, Mexico when she was struck and killed by the locomotive. Per TMZ, the CPKC's Final Spike Steam Tour train was due to pass through the town and had attracted a crowd of onlookers.

The train is famous for making a trip from Canada to Mexico City and was described by TMZ as a major attraction for locals in Hidalgo. Alondra can be seen stepping out of the crowd with her son, but pushing him away before lifting the phone to snap the picture.

Video shows the woman being struck, with several other individuals rushing over to help. Citing reports, TMZ wrote that first responders pronounced Alondra dead at the scene. The outlet added that other members of Alondra's family had been present at tracks aside from her son.

According to TMZ, CPKC launched an investigation into the incident.

"We are deeply saddened by this loss of life and wish to express our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones," CPKC said in a statement obtained by TMZ. "For their own safety and that of the crews, all spectators looking at any train must always remain at least 10 meters back from the train and the tracks. Spectators must never stand on railway tracks, try to board rail equipment or climb on rail infrastructure."

WRANGELL, Alaska (KTUU) - One person was found dead inside a sunken boat that collided with a larger fishing vessel Wednesday morning near Wrangell.

One person was thrown into the water and rescued by “good Samaritans,” who were in the area when the collision occurred.

The other person was found hours later inside the skiff, which had sunk, by a Petersburg Search Rescue diver.

Tony Bramwell, who was The Beatles ’ tour manager and childhood friend, has died aged 78.

The music mogul – who also discovered Queen – died on June 2 after a short illness.

Sir Paul McCartney took to social media to pay tribute to his lifelong friend, as he wrote: ‘Sad to hear of the passing of Tony Bramwell. He was a good companion to us through the Beatles journey.

‘Always up for a laugh and I’m sorry to see him leave. Thanks Tony. Love ya! From Paul.’

A statement on The Beatles’ official Instagram page added: ‘Tony worked on many NEMS and Apple projects, from music videos to photo shoots, PR and more and will be missed by many friends and colleagues.’

Having met The Beatles in Liverpool before they rose to stardom, Bramwell was childhood friends with Sir Paul, John Lennon and George Harrison, and moved to London with the band.

Brian Epstein and Tony Bramwell at Abbey Road Studios

Initially, he grew up playing with Harrison, and was said to be present when Sir Paul and Lennon met for the very first time.

In the 1960s he was the Hey Jude hitmakers tour manager, and acted as Brian Epstein’s right hand man.

Sir Paul was once quoted as saying: ‘If you want to know anything about The Beatles, ask Tony Bramwell. He knows more than I do.’

Bramwell went on to become joint head of Apple Records.

In later life he was a regular figure at International Beatleweek and on tours of historic Beatles locations in Liverpool, including the Strawberry Field John Lennon visitor attraction.

Strawberry Field’s Honorary President, Lennon’s sister Julia Baird said of his death: ‘Tony was the “man in the know” as he was around for the bulk of the Beatles journey. He will be missed at Beatle Week.’

Singer Stephen Bishop wrote: ‘I’m sad to hear of the passing of @BeatlesFriend Tony Bramwell.

‘We met initially in 1976, at @PaulMcCartney Buddy Holly’s Publishing party. Tony was always so kind to me over the years and an important part of @thebeatles history.’

Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison

Film director Alan Parker added: ‘I’ve just heard the news, a true gent in every sense but of the word.

‘I first met Tony in Liverpool when I was just 19 years old, one way or another we’ve been in each other’s lives for 40 years! I’ll miss you mate, you were indeed a class act.’

The Liverpool Beatles museum also took to social media to pay their respects, as they said: ‘Everyone at the Liverpool Beatles Museum- Mathew Street is saddened to hear of the recent passing of Tony Bramwell. He was a lovely man. We enjoyed his company on many occasions. Condolences to his family.’

Bramwell met many Beatles fans over the years in Liverpool, and many have taken to social media to pay tribute with photos next to him.

‘So sad to hear Tony Bramwell has passed away,’ began fan Jeff Nolan, sharing a picture of their meeting.

‘Such a nice guy & someone who was there on the inside as the greatest story in music history unfolded before his eyes. Always loved hearing his stories. RIP Tony.’

Caitlin Larkin wrote: ‘So sad to hear that Tony Bramwell is no longer with us. Had the pleasure of meeting him and had him sign his authentic fake Beatles autographs (IYKYK) in my copy of his book. RIP.’

Emergency services have been working throughout the night to assist those affected by severe flooding in the eastern cape, while kzn is also experiencing heavy rain..

The Eastern Cape’s Nelson Mandela Bay municipality said this morning that two people have died, two have been reported missing and 65 people have been rescued following severe flooding.

“Emergency services have been working throughout the night and are still working and searching to assist people affected by the flooding. All residents are requested to take precautions,” says metro spokesperson Sithembiso Soyaya.

Executive Mayor Gary van Niekerk provided an update on the situation just after 11:15, saying Uitenhage is the most affected:

Several areas have been affected by power outages as a result of the flooding, including Kwanobuhle, Cuyler, Riverside, Groendal, Summerstrand, Fitzpatrick, Kamesh, Brymore, Fairview, Humewood, Kragga Kamma, Lorraine, Lovemore Heights, Miramar, Mount Pleasant, parts of Newton Park, Overbaakens, Pari Park, Summerstrand, Theescombe, Walmer, Walmer Heights, Woodlands and surrounding regions.

The metro posted on X last night that persistent rains had caused flooding in some areas, particularly Kariega in Seaview. Several homes were flooded and vehicles were washed away.

On Facebook, Snow Report last night posted the video below of last night’s flooding in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Snow Report also posted a Facebook video of substantial damage and flooding at the Uitenhage fire station; some areas recorded 150mm of rain.

Margate has again been hit by hard rain, causing flooding and havoc on the roads.

At 10:30 this morning, South Coast Herald warned motorists of flooding at the low-lying bridge on Crescent Street in Umbango, Port Shepstone.

Watch the video by Lazer 911 Security:

Last night, the publication reported a risk of aquaplaning due to large puddles of water between Port Shepstone and Umtentweni, water on the bridge between Sea Park and Southport, and various places flooded in Margate.

There was also an accident in Marburg, near the weighbridge, on the N2 Harding road.

Significant drop in temperatures expected

On Friday, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned South Africans to expect the first significant drop in daytime temperatures over the weekend, with showers and thundershowers possible across most parts, and even some snow over elevated areas.

“This is a result of a developing cut-off low-pressure system (the northwards displacement of a low-pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere) over the western and southern parts of the country from Sunday into Monday. Cut-off low-pressure systems are commonly associated with widespread rainfall, snowfall, strong to gale-force winds, and rough sea conditions in winter,” it said.

Heavy 24-hour rainfall, with accumulations of 50mm to 100mm, is possible, particularly in places along the coastal belt, where there will also be strong to gale-force winds, and very rough sea conditions, with wave heights of 5m to 6m. Wave heights of 7m to 8m are likely offshore.

Strong winds and rough seas were also expected to spread along the south coast of the Western Cape from yesterday afternoon, and the SAWS warned marine operations and users, including large and small vessels at sea and beachgoers, to take note of the anticipated deteriorating weather and sea conditions.

From today, as the cut-off low moves over the country from the west, it will result in cold temperatures and widespread thundershowers across the western, central, and southern parts, then spreading to the eastern parts later.

“Some of these storms may develop to become severe in places over the central and eastern interior, resulting in large amounts of small hail and strong damaging winds.”

Rainfall is expected to continue tomorrow over the eastern and southern parts of the country.

At least 8 dead after tornado outbreak in Arkansas, Biden tells gov. feds ready to assist

by KYLON WILLIAMS and MATTHEW SEWELL | KATV Staff

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders, center-right in blue shirt, toured areas that suffered the worst weather damage, May 27, 2024. (KATV)

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — At least eight people were killed and many more injured after multiple tornadoes ripped through parts of Arkansas.

Gov. Sarah Sanders, R-Ark., discussed the tornadoes and other severe weather with President Joe Biden, signed a state of emergency order , and authorized money to be used in recovery efforts for this weekend's storms.

"Bryan and I are praying for the communities impacted by last night’s storm and the families of the Arkansans we lost," Sanders said.

Monday, she visited Rogers to survey the damage caused by the Sunday tornadoes, along with Rep. Steve Womack and Sen. John Boozman.

They were also set to visit Decatur and Marion County to speak with local officials, impacted community members, and those who are working to aid people in need.

This marks the deadliest tornado event in Arkansas since April 27, 2014.

In Boone County, one of the victims was a 26-year-old woman who was found dead outside a destroyed home in Olvey, according to Daniel Bolen of the county’s emergency management office.

The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF3 tornado hit Boone County.

According to Arkansas State Police, at least three people are dead in Benton County.

Womack said during a press conference one person was a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. They died as a result of not having oxygen after losing power. Benton County Judge, Barry Moehring, said another victim died after a tree fell on their trailer.

Moehring says the county’s top priority is the multiple law enforcement, fire and EMS crews are responding to search and rescue and other life safety missions.

In Marion County, at least three other weather-related deaths have been reported. Several emergency shelters have been set up to help those displaced by storm damage.

Thousands remain without power and emergency crews continue search and rescue efforts.

Emergency officials are requesting people to stay off roads as much as possible in the affected areas.

Sanders' spokesperson Alexa Henning released this statement about her call with the president:

“This morning, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders and President Joe Biden spoke by phone and discussed the catastrophic tornadoes and severe weather that affected Arkansans over the weekend. The Governor told the President she’s been on the ground in Northwest Arkansas since yesterday and is surveying the damage firsthand and offering comfort and support to those impacted. The President emphasized if there is anything the state needs to let him know and the federal government stands ready to assist. Governor Sanders thanked the President for the close coordination of his team last March and again this time for their commitment to aiding response and recovery efforts.”

And, President Biden released this statement on the recent weather:

"Jill and I are praying for those who tragically lost their lives as a result of devastating tornadoes that tore through Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma , leveling entire communities and leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Our condolences are with everyone who has been affected. This comes as communities across the Midwest and South are still reeling from deadly storms and severe weather.

"We are immensely grateful to our first responders and emergency personnel who have been working around the clock to save lives. Our team is directly in touch with state and local officials. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has been on the ground conducting damage assessments and we stand ready to provide support as needed.

"With more severe weather expected across the region, we urge residents to remain vigilant and heed the warnings of local officials."
