Join us on an unforgettable adventure that will lead us from Tromsø all the way to Finnish Lapland.

On this tour, we visit the picturesque village of Kilpisjärvi. This tour offers the best of the harsh and beautiful environment of Finnish Lapland. We will drive on snowmobiles over frozen lakes and through frozen forests.

Our trip starts early in the morning in the city centre of Tromsø. A two-hour drive will lead us to the Finnish village of Kilpisjärvi, where we will get dressed in warm protective gear. After a thorough safety briefing on how to safely ride a snowmobile, we will make our way over a frozen lakes to discover the highlights of the Kilpisjärvi area. Depending on the conditions, we will visit the 3-Country-Border, often referred to as “the most peaceful border in the world”, or other nearby highlights, for example the mountain Saana with its frozen lakes and wilderness huts.

Along our journey, we will stop for photos and, for those sharing, to switch drivers. We will drive on both flat and rugged terrain, which requires a base level of fitness by the driver. A driving license is not required in Finland to drive a snowmobile.

Experiencing the weather of Finnish Lapland is part of this experience. Coming prepared and dressed warm helps keeping you safe and comfortable.

Please note that this is a guided tour and the rules set by the guides must be followed at all times. The driver of each snowmobile is responsible for damages caused.

Requirement

This trip requires a minimum of 6 snowmobiles booked. If we have less than that, the trip may be cancelled, and a full refund will be provided. The minimum age for this trip is 8 years for the passenger and 18 years for the driver. A driving license is not necessary to participate in the trip, also for the driver.

Important Things to Note

You will return early enough to join our Northern Lights chase in the evening.

Please dress extra warm. A woollen base layer and at least one pair of woollen socks are a must. Please bring gloves and a hat.

It takes about 2 hours in our comfortable bus to reach our destination in Finland.

We may cancel this trip any time for safety reasons. In this case, a full refund will be provided.

All participants must follow the rules provided in the safety briefing. Participants that endanger themselves or others in any way, will be excluded from the tour without the possibility of a refund.

This trip starts early. Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for short-notice cancellations and no-shows.

The snowmobiles are insured with a self-liability of 1,000 EUR. That means, the driver of the snowmobile will have to pay up to 1,000 EUR on the spot to cover damages caused by the driver. Following the rules set by the tour guides will greatly reduce the risk of accidents.

This is a full-day trip. We recommend bringing along water or soft drinks and snacks. Alcohol is not allowed on our tours.

A driving license is not required to participate in this trip as a driver or passenger.

For trips scheduled before 1 December 2024, if there is insufficient snow or ice thickness, the trip will be cancelled. We regularly assess the conditions and promptly inform affected guests. We provide full refunds for cancelled tours.

Winter excursion

Multi-day snowmobiling expedition.

Do you want to experience a unique adventure during your stay in Finland? Go for a private multi-day snowmobiling in Lapland! During these tours, you will discover Lapland through its nature, its culture and its culinary specialties. Drive through the snowmobile trails to discover these unique and emblematic landscapes of Lapland.

In addition to enjoying the superb views, you will feel like you are alone in the middle of the nature. You will probably come across a few reindeer herders on the trails, but we guarantee that along our tours, there will be no other tourists! During this snowmobile expedition, the total immersion in this nature will allow us, if we are lucky, to observe wild animals in their natural habitat.

Details and course of a snowmobile multi-day tour in Lapland

These snowmobile tours are organized from Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. For comfort reasons, ease of driving and given the great distance to be covered, you will be alone on your snowmobile (no passengers as it is the case for shorter excursions).

We only organize private programs where there will be only you and your guide.

Are these multi-day snowmobile expedition made for you?

First of all, it is good to specify that these 3 snowmobile circuits are only intended for adults. If you are traveling to Lapland with children, I recommend that you look into our shorter snowmobile excursions .

During these multi-day snowmobiling programs, we will travel great distances together. It is therefore essential to be in relatively good physical condition since, although our snowmobiles are modern and comfortable, driving for several hours a day remains physically demanding. In addition, it is important to specify that these snowmobile raids are not recommended in the following cases:

• People with back or joint pain,
• People with impaired vision (if you wear glasses, it is best to have a spare pair or contact lenses),
• Pregnant women,
• People in poor physical condition in general.

When can you book our multi-day snowmobiling in Lapland?

As we organize these snowmobile raids only when the daylight becomes sufficient, these programs are offered from mid-January to mid-April. However, if you have planned your trip for another time, or if you are traveling with children, we organize other excursion formats. We offer more standard formats suitable for families with children which last from 1 to 4 hours, and are available from the end of November to the beginning of April.

One-day snowmobile expedition

Details of the one-day snowmobiling expedition

• Transportation from your accomodation to our office, located 2 km from Rovaniemi city-center.
• Once at our premises, we will present the snowmobile program to you, in details (route, terrain, etc.) and provide an update on the current conditions (weather, snow, etc…)
• You will then receive all the necessary equipment (helmets, overalls, mittens, etc…)
• We will then give you the driving instructions as well as the instructions and safety rules necessary for a long snowmobile tour.
• The adventure will start! You will explore the Lappish nature on your snowmobile and discover the wide open spaces that characterize Finnish Lapland so much (taiga, marshes, frozen lakes and rivers.
• Several breaks are planned along the way to share a hot drinks, enjoy the scenery and take pictures. At noon, we will picnic in the middle of nature.
• We will then continue this snowmobile adventure and return to Rovaniemi in the late afternoon.

Details of the two-day/one-night snowmobiling expedition

• We will keep driving snowmobiles after the lucnh break, and arrive at the cottage in the late afternoon.
• After settling in the cottage, you can either rest or enjoy the traditional wood-fired sauna and maybe try ice swimming in the lake!
• In the evening your guide will prepare a typical meal for you and you can enjoy a friendly moment around the fire. If the conditions allow it, it will also be possible to observe the Northern Lights.
• Typical breakfast at the cabin before the departure by snowmobile,
• Along the way, we will stop in the middle of nature to practice an activity of your choice (ice fishing, snowshoeing or back-country skiing) then, we will have a picnic in the middle of nature
• You will spend the rest of the day driving your snowmobile through the magnificient Lappish nature.
• Return to Rovaniemi in the late afternoon.

Snowmobiles are the best way to explore Finnish Lapland fast! Hop on and discover the frozen rivers and lakes, the secluded forests, the expansive felltop vistas.

Like reindeer rides and yapping huskies, you’ll find roaring* snowmobiles in virtually every destination across Finnish Lapland . Sometimes these snowmobile excursions are combined with Northern Lights hunts , ice-fishing or other winter fun, other times it’s just the thrill of exploring the snow-kissed wilderness from the back of a Polaris . Forest jaunts

The most common kind of snowmobile ride offered is a jaunt through the forests of Lapland. These rides vary in length from 30 minutes to a few hours. These are often the easiest rides and the most family-friendly . On the longer trips, you’ll often pull over at a laavu, or Finnish lean-to. Here, your guide might light a fire and offer you something sweet and a mug of warm berry juice or campfire coffee.

• Ruka-Kuusamo offers some of the best forest snowmobile routes in northern Finland.
• You can’t talk about trees and snowmobiles and not mention the epic forests of Salla .

Sometimes you just wanna put your foot on the gas and just … GO! When the rivers freeze over, they offer the perfect place to let loose and see what your snowmobile can do . (Always obey speed limit signs and use common sense!) These trips range from short to long, but one thing’s for sure: they’re never dull!

Our expert guides offer safety instructions, making the ride stress-free. Plus, we have options for families with children, ensuring everyone can share in the excitement.

“But what if there isn’t any natural snow in November?” you might wonder. No need to worry. We’ve stockpiled an abundance of snow from the previous season to ensure you can enjoy snowy trails as early as possible. Both available snowmobile tours feature a midway break, where you can enjoy hot drinks while appreciating the tranquility of Lappish nature.

Our snowmobile tours start at Apukka Resort, located at Tutkijantie 28, 96900 Rovaniemi. Transfers to and from the city center and Santa Claus Village are included. These tours take place in the immediate vicinity of the resort, on private trails and terrains.

Snowmobiling in Lapland

Jump aboard to see untouched, remote areas of the Lappish wilderness. You'll whizz around and be able to see remote, stunning areas and incredible views.

• The snowmobiling tracks in Lapland are extensive and well looked after, as this is how the locals get around.
• It's a smooth and safe ride. Kids travel in a sleigh led by a guide's snowmobile, taking the lead position in the group. Grown-ups have the option to drive, ride pillion, or settle into the sleigh.

Family snowmobile safari - The duration of the experience is 1-1.5 hours (45 minute ride time) and prices are £79 per adult (12+) and £66 per child (3-11) and £135 for solo driver.

The duration of the experience is 2 hours (1.5 hour ride time) and prices are £92 per adult (12+), £65 per child (3-11) and £145 for solo driver. This is only bookable on the 3 night trip.

• If a grown-up wants to drive, you need to be over 18 and have a full photographic driving license. You'll get a helmet too.
• The dedicated trails are like roads, with 'give way' signs to look out for. And just like roads, you can't have had any alcohol before heading out.
• There's room for one passenger per snowmobile. You need to be able to reach the footrests and be strong enough to hold on properly around the driver's waist or hand grips. There isn't a specific age to ride pillion however it is at the guides discretion as to whether you are allowed to ride as a passenger.
• To drive your own snowmobile without a passenger, you'll need to book a single driver supplement. And if a grown-up wants to go in the sleigh, you'll need to let us know in advance and its subject to availability.
• Our guide will make sure everyone's safe and following the rules before you set off.
