Tour details

Day 1:  Transfer in from airport and Tierra del Fuego National Park: Transfer in from the airport. After being welcomed at Ushuaia Airport, we will visit the stunning Tierra del Fuego National Park situated in the south-east of the province, almost touching the border with Chile. This is the most southern national park in the Andes and is a beautiful Patagonian forest with lakes, lagoons, and rivers.

Take a ride in the Austral Fueguino train, known as the “Train to the End of the World.” The train crosses the Pipo River, stopping at various points so that passengers can appreciate the fantastic panoramic views of Lago Roca and Lapataia Bay, and the impressive snowed-capped peaks of Cerro Nevado and La Cadena Sampaio.

Day 2: Beagle Channel and Sea Wolf Island – Transfer to El Calafate. After having breakfast, join the morning tour to Beagle Channel and Sea Wolf Island, the first remote tourist destination.

During the afternoon, you will take the transfer to Ushuaia airport to take your flight to El Calafate where you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3: Punta Bandera and Ice Rivers. After breakfast, we will take a bus to Punta Bandera where we will then get on board of a boat for a trip across the “Ice Rivers.” Here we will appreciate the other various glaciers: Upsala, Onelli, Agassiz, and Bolado. You can take your own lunch along with you for the tour or you have the option to buy some snacks onboard the boat.

Day 4: Perito Moreno Glacier. Departing from El Calafate, we will travel 80 kilometers by bus to the simply mind-blowing natural beauty of the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the last naturally advancing glaciers in the world. Then we will take a boat across the Lake Brazo Rico and appreciate the various faces of the famous glaciar. You will have time at leisure to explore the place on your own in the “Pasarelas.”

Day 5: Transfer out to airport – Back to Buenos Aires. Transfer to the airport to take your flight back to Buenos Aires.

This package starts with a tour of Chile's capital, Santiago, before flying to the world epicentre of natural beauty –Patagonia. A unique and unrepeatable landscape where mountain glaciations, rivers and lakes, waterfalls, native forests, snowdrifts, fjords, archipelagos, ice fields, and Magellanic steppes make up a wild nature that awes and inspires. Stay in a Patagonian Lodge, a world-class refuge that includes daily excursions in the company of a bilingual guide. Choose from a horseback ride guided by a traditional gaucho  through the Patagonian landscape, hikes in the Ventisquero Valley and to archaeological monuments, a field day to a typical Patagonian Estancia to enjoy an authentic lamb roast, mountain biking to the shore of Balmaceda Lake or a hike through Torres del Paine National Park and to the incredible Las Torres peaks.

DAY 1- Arrive in Santiago

Arrival day in the Chilean capital of Santiago. You will be collected from the airport and transferred to your hotel by private car transfer. The rest of the day is yours to recover from your flight.

DAY 2- Santiago

Spend your morning getting to know Santiago on a half-day city tour. You will visit the highlights this cosmopolitan city has to offer. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore the local area where your hotel is located. Barrio Lastarria is an upmarket, vibrant, and safe neighbourhood, home to some of Santiago’s best cafes, bars and restaurants with lots of boutique retail stores. (B)

DAY 3- Fly Santiago to Patagonia- Torres del Paine

You will be collected from your hotel and transferred by private transfer to Santiago airport to meet your flight to Patagonia. On arrival, you will be collected to begin your journey into one of the world’s most beautiful and pristine national parks, Torres del Paine, where you will spend the next four nights in an all-inclusive lodge of your choice. The transfer time will take approximately 5 hours and you will be offered incredible views of the Patagonian landscape as you watch estancias, lakes and snow-capped mountains pass you by. On arrival at your lodge, check in and the late afternoon and evening is free for you to organise the following day’s excursions. (B,D)

DAY 4- Torres del Paine NP Excursions

Choose from one of the many activities included in your lodge stay. Activities on offer include hiking one of the many world-class trails or to Las Torres base viewpoint, horseback riding, taking a cruise on a lake to view the Grey glacier, or a cultural visit to an estancia and learn about the gaucho culture that is unique to Patagonia. Please note additional charges may apply for some activities depending on certain lodge inclusions. (B,L,D)

DAY 5- Torres del Paine NP Excursions

The excitement continues today, wake up and enjoy breakfast at your lodge, before you head out on another hand selected excursion within the incredible Torres del Paine National Park. Whatever you didn't have the opportunity to do yesterday is ready and waiting for you to explore today. (B,L,D)

DAY 6- Torres del Paine NP Excursions

Make the most of your final full day here in the beautiful Torres del Paine National Park by partaking in another full or half day excursion with one of the lodges experienced guides. There truly is something for everyone, catering for all activity levels so be sure to make the most of your last day. Enjoy dinner and your surrounds one last night before preparing yourself for tomorrows departure. (B,L,D)

DAY 7- Torres del Paine to El Calafate

Today you say bid farewell to the Chilean Patagonia and say hello to the Argentinian Patagonia. A shared transfer van will help with immigration formalities when crossing from Chile and into Argentina and deliver you safely to El Calafate, Argentina. Transfer time is approx. 6 hours. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the tourist shops, restaurants, and cafes of El Calafate, one of Argentina’s premier tourist destinations. (B)

DAY 8- El Calafate and Perito Moreno Glacier

This morning you will be collected from your hotel and transferred via the beautiful Patagonian and into Los Glaciers National Park, home to the world-famous Perito Moreno Glacier. Join a boat cruise on the lake where you will get up close to Mayo, Negro and Perito Moreno Glaciers and bear witness to the 74-meter-high glacier calving right in front of your eyes. Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the only glaciers left in the world that continues to advance forward. On return to El Calafate, enjoy the rest of the afternoon soaking up the atmosphere in this beautiful village. (B,L)

DAY 9- Depart El Calafate

There are no activities planned for today and a private airport transfer will collect you from your hotel and deliver you to El Calafate airport. Continue north to Buenos Aires or southwards to Ushuaia, the world’s most southern city. Ushuaia is also famous as the gateway for tourists travelling to Antarctica. Speak to our reservations staff about linking this itinerary to one of our 26 small ship expeditions to Antarctica from Ushuaia. Alternatively, you can choose to extend your Patagonian stay with a visit to El Chalten. (B)

Tour Itinerary

Please note: this itinerary is either 10 or 11 days depending on the departure date Embark on the USHUAIA in the afternoon and sail along the famous Beagle Channel and the scenic Mackinlay Pass.

Named after the renowned explorer, Sir Francis Drake, who sailed these waters in 1578, the Drake Passage also marks the Antarctic Convergence, a biological barrier where cold polar water sinks beneath the warmer northern waters. This creates a great upwelling of nutrients, which sustains the biodiversity of this region. The Drake Passage also marks the northern limit of many Antarctic seabirds. As we sail across the passage, Antarpply Expeditions’ lecturers will be out with you on deck to help in the identification of an amazing variety of seabirds, including many albatrosses, which follow in our wake. The USHUAIA’s open bridge policy allows you to join our officers on the bridge and learn about navigation, watch for whales, and enjoy the view. A full program of lectures will be offered as well. The first sightings of icebergs and snow-capped mountains indicate that we have reached the South Shetland Islands, a group of twenty islands and islets first sighted in February 1819 by Capt. William Smith of the brig Williams. With favorable conditions in the Drake Passage our lecturers and naturalists will accompany you ashore as you experience your first encounter with the penguins and seals on Day 3.

The South Shetland Islands are a haven for wildlife. Vast penguin rookeries, beaches ruled by Antarctic fur seals and southern elephant seals make every day spent in this amazing island group unforgettable. The Antarctic Peninsula’s remarkable history will provide you with a level of excitement only experienced by the early explorers. You will have plenty of time to explore its amazing scenery, a pristine wilderness of snow, ice, mountains and waterways, together with an incredibly diverse array of wildlife. We hope to navigate some of the most beautiful waterways (depending on the ice conditions): the Gerlache Strait, the Neumayer Channel, and the Lemaire Channel, the latter are narrow passages between towering rock faces and spectacular glaciers. We plan to make at least two landings per day and possible landing sites may include: Paradise Bay is perhaps the most aptly named place in the world and we attempt a landing on the continent proper. After negotiating the iceberg-strewn waters of the Antarctic Sound, we hope to visit the bustling Adélie Penguin (over 100,000 pairs breed here) and Blue-eyed Cormorant colonies on Paulet Island. The Nordenskjöld expedition built a stone survival hut here in 1903. Today its ruins have been taken over by nesting penguins. Further exploration may take you to the Melchior Island group, Cuverville Island, Portal Point, Neko Harbour, Pléneau Island and if ice conditions permit, to Petermann Island for a visit to the southernmost colony of Gentoo Penguins.

We leave Antarctica and head north across the Drake Passage. Join our lecturers and naturalists on deck as we search for seabirds and whales, and enjoy some final lectures.

We arrive at the port of Ushuaia in the early morning and disembark the USHUAIA after breakfast. Please note: The above itinerary is a guide only. Our exact route and program will vary to take best advantage of local weather and ice conditions and opportunities to view wildlife. Changes will be made by the Captain and/or Expedition Leader to facilitate the best results from the prevailing conditions. A daily program sheet will be issued on board. Flexibility is the key to success.

• Currency $ Argentine Peso Argentina

As a traveller from USA, Canada, England, South Africa you will need an adaptor for types C, E, F, I. As a traveller from Australia, New Zealand you will need an adaptor for types C, E, F.
