Sea Fishing Anglesey

Sea fishing Anglesey is fantastic, it offers literally some of the best sea fishing in the UK. With a 130 mile of pristine coastline there is something for everyone. Deep water rock fishing venues to storm beaches, day or night, Anglesey is home to a great abundance of fish species. Fantastic views wherever you decide to fish with a chance of seeing seals and Porpoises on a fairly regular basis.

All disciplines of sea fishing are catered for, moreover whatever the weather there is always a sheltered spot to avoid the wind. Whether you enjoy fishing on the bottom or enjoy a bit LRF, there are spots all over the island. Some are well know such as Mackerel Rock, Penmon Point and the famous Holyhead Breakwater reaching 1.7 miles into the sea. Others spots are closely guarded secrets, take a walk along the coastal path and you will find them dotted around.

Anglesey is also one of the few places around the UK that you can target Tope from the shore! Huss and various species of Ray, some big ones too can be found all around the island.

Congor Eel are also abundant around the rocky sections of Angleseys coastline. Moreover its great for targeting mini species including the colourful Corkwing Wrasse to the strange looking Scorpion fish.

If you fancy a trip out sea fishing in the depths there are several charter boats around the Island. Further out you can catch the bigger fish among the wrecks, shark fishing the Holyhead Deeps with fish upto 79lb! is very popular. Beaumaris, Holyhead and Amlwch have charter boats operating daily, weather dependent.

One thing is for sure, when sea fishing Anglesey it can always throw up a surprise or two. Spider crabs, Lobster and even Octopus are fairly regular shore catches in summer.

Check out www.turnerstackle.co.uk for places you can fish and directions to get there. Its also covers other parts of North Wales and the North West.

What will you catch?

Depending on where you wish to go on Anglesey it’s around 115 miles and around 2 hours driving time. It is well worth the trip especially if you get nice weather.

Caernarfon Bay Fishing

Types of fishing that the bad boyz fishing crew offer you., caernarfon bay, fishing north wales - caernarfon bay and saint georges channel, caernarfon bay (occasionally caernarvon bay) is an inlet of the irish sea defined by the llŷn peninsula and anglesey. there is some amazing fishing to be done in this region..

With a vast amount of sand banks and reefs, Caernarfon bay is a superb all round days fishing with fairly settled tides and shallow water depths.

We tend to fish Caernarfon Bay on the spring tides with Skate predominately feeding on the ebb tides down to slack water.

The bay can provide excellent sport on species hunting days drifting over the many banks in the area for Gurnards, Dabs, Turbot, Plaice, Skate etc.... A few wrecks around the area provide a great attraction around slack water to anchor up for Tope, Spurdogs, Skate and Bullhuss.

4-8oz uptider or 12lb class boat rod along with a 5000/sl20 size reel loaded with 20lb braid for the main part and then the business end consists of a running ledger 4ft hook length of 30-60lb mono depending on your target fish and again a verity of hook sizes to accommodate multiple species. weights from 4oz to 12oz torpedo and teardrops work best.

Get in touch with Bad Boyz for amazing fishing trips in and around Caernarfon Bay, Anglesey.

Sea Fishing Trips in North Wales

Sea Fishing Trips in Conwy, North Wales, specialises in wreck fishing, deep sea fishing, and reef fishing. The chartered boat, Gwen-Paul-M, with full wheelhouse electronics, will take you fishing anywhere from Anglesey to Liverpool Bay on specialised boat trips to catch fish including pollack, cod, conger, bass and mackerel. With stunning views of Snowdonia National Park and the north coast of Wales, Skippers Carl Davies and Will Small will ensure that your fishing trip will be a resounding success.

Andrew Wragg has joined us as the new relief skipper.  Andrew has worked at sea since the age of thirteen.  He has run various angling and commercial fishing vessels off the Noth Wales coast, so is very familiar with the area. More recently he has been skippering windfarm crew transfer vessels and he's also an experienced sailor. You'll be pleased to know he's a keen angler and can find the fish too!

Gwen-Paul-M

11 metre charter boat licensed for 12 anglers. A comfortable boat with ample deck space. Forward wheelhouse with a large overhang to provide shelter from spray and rain. The vessel has a MCA Category 2 certificate and is licensed to travel 60 miles from a safe haven. All safety equipment is carried onboard as part of this licence.

Gwen-Paul-M was built by BWSeacat, a catamaran design renowned for its sea keeping and stability. The vessel cruises at 16-17 knots with a flat out speed of 22 knots, which enables more time for fishing rather than travelling during your trip.

The wheelhouse has an impressive array of  electronics; Olex 3D mapping, Simrad GPS, echo sounder and radar. A repeater screen located in a back wheelhouse window allows the angler to see the GPS and echo sounder from the deck.

A compact galley area includes a kettle, microwave and sink. Tea is provided through the day and the microwave can be used if anyone requires food heated up.

A toilet cubicle is located behind the wheelhouse.

Two side doors allow easy wheelchair access from the pontoon and a large uncluttered deck area enables wheelchair users to move around the deck easily.

A livebait tank can be rigged on deck. Sandeels and mackerel caught on the day can also be kept alive in the tank.

Fly Fishing Lakes and Rivers in Anglesea: A Guide for Anglers

Fly fishing is a popular and enjoyable pastime in Anglesey, a beautiful island located off the north-west coast of Wales. With its many rivers and lakes, the island offers a variety of fishing experiences for both novice and experienced anglers. Anglers can enjoy fly fishing for a variety of fish species, including trout, salmon, and sea trout.

One of the most popular fly fishing locations on the island is Llyn Coron Fishery. The season runs from 21st March until 17th October, and fishing is from dawn to dusk. Day ticket holders may leave and return as many times as they wish during the daylight hours of the given date. Anglers must be in possession of the appropriate rod licence. Llyn Coron Fishery does not have any boats for hire, all craft moored at the lake are owned privately by anglers.

Another great location for fly fishing in Anglesey is Llyn Alaw, a large man-made lake that offers a variety of fishing experiences. The lake is stocked with a variety of fish species, including brown trout, rainbow trout, and perch. There are several fishing platforms located around the lake, and anglers can also fish from the banks. Llyn Alaw is an excellent location for both novice and experienced anglers, and it offers a peaceful and relaxing environment for a day of fly fishing.

Anglsea Fly Fishing Lakes

When it comes to fly fishing in Anglesey, the lakes in the area offer a unique and exciting experience. There are several lakes to choose from, each with its own charm and character. Here are some of the best lakes to try your hand at fly fishing:

Llyn Coron is a beautiful lake located in the heart of Anglesey. It is a popular spot for fly fishing, and for good reason. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including brown trout, rainbow trout, and arctic char. The best time to fish here is early in the morning or late in the evening, when the fish are most active.

Llyn Cefni is another popular lake for fly fishing in Anglesey. It is a large, shallow lake with plenty of reed beds and weed beds, making it an ideal habitat for fish. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including brown trout, rainbow trout, and pike. The best time to fish here is during the summer months, when the water is warm and the fish are most active.

Llyn Alaw is the largest man-made lake in Anglesey, and it is a popular spot for fly fishing. The lake is home to a variety of fish species, including brown trout, rainbow trout, and pike. The best time to fish here is in the early morning or late evening, when the fish are most active.

When fly fishing in lakes, it’s important to use the right equipment. A 9-foot, 5-weight rod is a good all-around choice for most lakes in Anglesey. You’ll also need a good reel, a floating line, and a selection of flies that mimic the insects and other prey that the fish in the lake feed on.

In addition to the lakes mentioned above, there are several other lakes in Anglesey that are worth exploring. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced fly fisherman, there’s something for everyone in this beautiful part of the world.

Fly Fishing in Rivers

When it comes to fly fishing in Anglesey, the rivers may not be the first choice for anglers. As one forum post on Anglers’ Net put it, “the river fishing is a bit rubbish.” However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t any rivers worth exploring.

One option is the Afon Goch, a small river that runs through the village of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. This river is known for its brown trout, and fly fishing is permitted on a catch-and-release basis. Another option is the Afon Braint, which flows into the Menai Strait. This river is also home to brown trout, as well as sea trout and salmon.

It’s worth noting that the rivers on Anglesey tend to be quite small, so anglers should adjust their expectations accordingly. However, these rivers can still provide a peaceful and rewarding fishing experience for those willing to give them a try.

When it comes to fly selection, anglers should focus on imitating the local insect life. Mayflies, caddisflies, and midges are all common in the rivers of Anglesey, so patterns that mimic these insects are a good place to start. It’s also important to pay attention to the water conditions and adjust your approach accordingly. On small rivers, a stealthy approach and delicate presentation can be key to success.

Overall, while the rivers of Anglesey may not be the most renowned fly fishing destinations, they still offer plenty of opportunities for anglers to test their skills and enjoy the beauty of the island’s natural landscape.

Fly Fishing in Anglesea

Fly fishing in Anglesea is a popular activity for both locals and visitors alike. With numerous lakes and rivers to choose from, anglers can enjoy a variety of fishing experiences in this beautiful part of Wales.

Llyn Coron and Llyn Cefni are two of the most popular lakes for fly fishing in Anglesea. Both offer stunning views and a peaceful fishing experience. Llyn Coron is a fly fishing only lake and operates a catch and release policy on barbless hooks. The season runs from 21st March until 17th October, and fishing is from dawn until dusk. Day ticket holders can leave and return as many times as they wish during daylight hours. Anglers must be in possession of the appropriate rod licence.

There are several rivers in Anglesea that are suitable for fly fishing, including the Afon Goch, Afon Alaw, and Afon Braint. These rivers offer a more challenging fishing experience than the lakes, but also provide the opportunity to catch a variety of fish species, including brown trout and sea trout.

It is important to note that fishing on these rivers requires a permit from the local angling association. The Cefni Angling Association is responsible for managing the fishing on the Afon Cefni, while the Anglesea Rivers Trust manages the fishing on the other rivers.

Tips for Fly Fishing in Anglesea

Here are a few tips to help you make the most of your fly fishing experience in Anglesea:

  • Check the fishing regulations and obtain the necessary permits before you start fishing.
  • Use appropriate gear and flies for the fish species and water conditions.
  • Be mindful of the environment and practice catch and release whenever possible.
  • Respect other anglers and their fishing space.
  • Consider hiring a local guide to help you navigate the waters and find the best fishing spots.

With its stunning scenery and abundant fishing opportunities, Anglesea is a must-visit destination for fly fishing enthusiasts.

Thinking of heading to angelsey tomorrow for a session, we normally go to white beach and have had some good catches from there. (Mostly doggies though ). Reasonably new to shore fishing and looking to catch some better fish this year going after species we haven’t caught before.. COD, bass,, .. etc. Does anyone have any info about any other marks we could fish and how to fish them. We don’t mind travelling or walking far to the mark as it’s all part of it. Any advice would be appreciated. Many thanks. Hop.

Go to Malcs shop at Gallows Point a mile West of Beaumaris to get your bait and best advice re fishing spots currently catching both when on the tide and best baits. It's called ABC

if you want even a chance of catching a codling you will mostly likely have to fish some obscure rock mark at night on a spring tide during bad weather but yeah, talk to Malcolm in ABC

One word, HOMEWORK!

Why do you disagree, I lived in Manchester for 40 years but used to be down North Wales every weekend at low water looking out for features then fishing into the early hours, sleeping in the car then onto another venue next day repeat of the previous day, learnt a lot and caught some Great fish.

Ended up on the rocks again down white beach. Had loads of small whiting and a few flatties. Nothing sizeable.. spoke to a fella in the bait shop he said the west coast is fishing a bit better and probably have more chance at a bigger fish that side. So going to try ty croes on Sunday

No problem sharing info as I am now disabled and it would be a shame to loose the information I have gained over 40 years, but people need to do their homework first, Google maps is fantastic, search the websites, three of us would head down from north Manchester after work, I was 18 stone and the smallest we slept in my mondeo estate Friday and Saturday then called into Llandudno Asda for breakfast on Sunday, smelling like the lion house at Chester zoo

Pm for pointers

No problem, trying ty croes this weekend hopefully grab a few bigger ones

Hi thanks for the reply! All advice is muchly appreciated. I spoke to a guy in the bait shop on Sunday and he said he also preferred ty croes. I’ve never tried that side of the island so looking forward to trying it this weekend. I know it’s pretty early in the year for the best fishing but I’m making it my goal to get the rods out as much as possible . Cheers

To croes is a very good place for variety and is relatively easy to access as well as having a mix or rough to smooth ground as others have mentioned, though it does get busy as it's one of the more well known marks. Another one to try would be bull bay area if conditions/wind direction are a pain around ty croes... Theres loads of ledges to choose from, best bet is to park up and go for a walk for half hour or so and have a look at some likely looking places, that's how we find all our marks after we've had a look on Google maps...

Too many places to recommend Malcs is the best place to call into for information

sea fishing trips anglesey

It's a long time since I last fished Anglesey, but used to be there quite a bit. As already said, Bull Bay can be good, but the best chance of decent fish always used to to be the Straits. Not easy fishing, but classic big fish territory, and you need to be aware that the tidal stream is unbelievably strong, but I've had cod and bass from between the two bridges, and if you want somewhere not TOO difficult, Church Island might be a good place to start. And, it's got atmosphere in spades!

OK Church Island is easy to get to - find the car park just down the A5 from the Suspension bridge, it's next to a Chinese Restaurant - then walk down through the trees to the causeway to the island. Through gate, between Yews and to the little church. Path goes right right round back to the gate. From church walk right about. 25-30yds and wall gets lower. Step over onto grass. You find yourself looking out towards Brittania (A55 road in distance) and a grassy island (Ynys Welltog) just in front. On a good low tide the ground in front is 'dry' and a very good indication of what you'll be fishing into round here! Out to the left is a promontory off which you'll be fishing off, casting in direction of Brit bridge. About 100-150 yds off the end is a mussel bed if you cast towards the bridge. Casting off the end of the promontory takes you into the main current and lots and lots of kelp! You can lure fish/ spin/ float fish all along the promontory. Look forward to, in season (if that still exists!) bass, doggies, cod (including red ones) wrasse and if your so inclined, mullet! Use a rotten bottom rig unless you've lots of kit. A safety point - the tide comes at you through the gap between Church Island and the Welltog. You've got 1 to 2 hours before the tide gets in behind you! Right in front of you is a black muddy bank. When that gets covered you'll have wet feet getting back to the graveyard! If you arrive at high tide (not recommended) you can fish amongst the knotted wrack on the End of the island casting towards Anglesey. Otherwise casting at 45 degrees towards Anglesey off the very end (there's a big rock at high tide) Not great spot unless you like Doggies! At least you can wet a line. Now please talk to the inhabitants of the island. I knew many, and some were fishermen! I make a point of this if fishing at night there. Mind you there are one or two who always made fun of me so I make a point of showing them anything I'm taking home! Seriously though if you decide to give it a try you will need to go there a lot (Homework??) simply to absorb the atmosphere and learn where to forage for crab and exactly where not to cast!

Ty coes is good for Huss and rays, cumryan is good for bass and turbot don’t cast too far for the turbot 30 yds max

Church island can be dangerous would not recommend fishing it alone unless you been there a few times

Obviously opinions differ and yes I've known and fished the place for over 70 years, I was brought up exactly opposite the island. I've also taken 100s of school kids there to study marine biology. It is a cemetery so has a tarmaced road to it and similar path around. Once you step over the wall to the beach/shore you can see it all whether tide is out or high tide. Other than falling into the water, a problem anywhere frankly, the only danger is having the tide come round behind you. As you walk along the shore out towards the main current you can see the defile to your left where a rising tide can slowly run in. As I've described before a sand/mud bank right in front is the thing that gives the indication that the tide is rising. As bank starts to get covered the defile behind you is beginning to fill. Get out! The dangerous spot is the island straight ahead. This Ynys Welltog or Grassy Island. Frankly this is NOT church island! Access is through the cemetery and across the rocks (not easy passage) or via a boat, my way of fishing it. Yes you stand a good chance of being stuck on the island by a rising tide as some off here have done! Again please go to Church Island in daylight as the tide is ebbing and do your homework. You can collect crab as you do this and make sure you have plenty of end tackle and lots of rotten bottom tackle. Water is fairly deep close in so fish with light tackle and just a baited hook - ultimately that's all you lose as Bass, in particular, will swim in close to search for crab. Take a little bread, a float rod and try for Mullet!

If fishing the west coast rock marks becareful a decent Westerly / North Westerly will be dangerous with the waves and swell. Some great marks around that coast though as others have said so good luck.

Just to add to the excellent advice from swelleyman , there is the unique tidal phenomena in the straits , learnt ,having not done my homework , years ago when fishing around Church island for the first time . The flood current is moving in one direction then changes and moves in the opposite direction , you expect the water level to start falling , it doesn't it still rises for a few ( depending on tide size ) minutes . If fishing here on a spring tide and for the very first time it can be confusing. I always say I should fish it more as it is on my doorstep as a few good bass are caught here every year but there are easier places to catch bass in my view.

sea fishing trips anglesey

So far as I am aware there are only 2 books published which give detailed information on fishing around Anglesey - luckily my father bought them when published [we had a caravan at Traeth Bychan in the 1960s/70s].....and I still refer to them occasionally, find the WTB guide more useful. In 1974 Clive Gammon wrote a book for the Welsh Tourist Board titled Angling Guide to Wales - it covers all of Wales, sea, coarse and game fishing - the latter two are well out of date, but the sea hasn't changed too much - currently on Ebay for about £8. In 1968 Anthony Pearson wrote Sea Fishing in North Wales and Anglesey - more about Anglesey than the previous book, but about £30 on eBay.

The Pearson books are the best I've ever read, and not just because they contain details and his reports from the Swellies but lots of other places (Blackpool in a storm - and huge double number cod, similar in Lowestoft where I have relations so have fished a lot, though not double figure!) There is a great report on fishing on the Platters (Where the Conway was wrecked later on) for big cod then being caught going through the property of 'landowner' (now an old peoples home - Cerys) and escaping to climb onto the Suspension Bridge to the consternation of motorists! If you get the chance - buy the books - got mine for thirty Bob in a local charity shop! I've adopted his end tackle, a sliding ledger with variable length snood. He talks of different casting distances depending on marks. What a bloke! Regarding the Kingfisher's mention of the weird tides in the Swellies - it's so important to be aware of the 'extra' hour, particularly in my opinion, at low tide. Essentially ebb tides flow West, or to Caernarfon, and flood the opposite way, towards Beaumaris. Because of the structure of the sea floor opposite Church Island the current flows the opposite way for the last hour of the ebb. Thus newcomers consider the tide has turned and is flowing in, whilst it's still flowing out, but the wrong way!! I can remember visiting boaters (yachts and fishing boats) running aground and saying they'd soon be afloat as the tide was coming in. An hour later they'd be further aground! Occasionally I'd earn a ten Bob note for pulling them off during the hour! In terms of fishing in a boat in the channel opposite Church Island the current would be running downhill flooding the kelp as if it was a river flowing over a weir! Dinghys were perfectly safe, particularly under oars. The bottom of the 'weir' flows out into wider but deeper water full of fast moving whirlpools. No problem though oars would snag in them - very sudden in the dark but usually I'd have the oars up in the row locks! So I would have been trolling up round the Gorad and coming down to fish opposite Church Island using the'weir' to get down. I'd pull onto the mud bank I've mentioned before and cast out a crab into the current flowing between Welltog and Church Island. These days I suppose the lures are fished for a while into this current. No this area has some great micro fishing spots when I was growing up.

I bought the Clive Gammon guide in 1978 and still refer to it ... a little gem!

sea fishing trips anglesey

One thing to watch out for at Ty Croes is that south easterly winds oppose the flooding tide there and kick up a very nasty groundswell. It doesn't take much and even a light breeze can make it un-fishable when everywhere else in the area is flat calm.

If you fall in the water at church island when it flowing good luck. You are in trouble big style

Fishing is a popular pastime for many people, and Glasgow is no exception. The River Clyde, which runs through the city, is a great place to go fishing. In this article, we will provide a guide to fishing in the River Clyde.

Firstly, it is important to note that a fishing permit is required to fish in the River Clyde. These can be obtained from the Glasgow Angling Centre or online. The permit allows you to fish in designated areas of the river and ensures that you are fishing legally.

The River Clyde is home to a variety of fish species, including salmon, trout, pike, and perch. The best time to fish for salmon is between June and October, while trout can be caught all year round. Pike and perch are also available throughout the year.

When it comes to fishing equipment, a rod and reel are essential. The type of rod and reel you need will depend on the type of fish you are targeting. For example, a heavier rod and reel are needed for salmon fishing, while a lighter set-up is suitable for trout.

Bait is also an important consideration when fishing in the River Clyde. For salmon, a fly is the most common bait used. For trout, worms or artificial lures are popular choices. Pike and perch can be caught using live bait or lures.

It is important to be aware of the rules and regulations when fishing in the River Clyde. For example, there are restrictions on the size and number of fish that can be caught. It is also important to practice catch and release, especially for salmon, which are a protected species.

When fishing in the River Clyde, it is important to be aware of the weather conditions. The river can be affected by heavy rain, which can cause the water level to rise and become murky. This can make fishing more difficult, so it is important to check the weather forecast before heading out.

There are several areas along the River Clyde that are popular for fishing. The Glasgow Green area is a popular spot for salmon fishing, while the Bothwell Castle area is known for its trout fishing. The Dalmarnock area is also a good spot for pike and perch fishing.
