Where to Have Your Wild One Birthday Party

If the weather is on your side, why not wish your little one a Happy Birthday outdoors?  A local park or nature reserve can be a perfect spot for your wild ones to roam free and explore the natural world around them.

You can set up a tent or picnic area and create a safari-inspired space with animal print blankets, pillows, and rugs. And let’s not forget to add some animal-shaped balloons to the mix to create a truly wild atmosphere!

If the great outdoors isn’t an option, you can host the birthday party at home and create a wild animal-inspired setting indoors with birthday party decorations. Set up a play area for the little ones with animal print tents, tunnels, and play mats. You can also add some greenery and plants to give it a jungle vibe.

If you’re looking for a more structured option, many children’s play spaces offer “Wild One” themed parties. These venues often provide a range of activities and games for the kids to enjoy, along with catering options for the adults.

Remember, the key is to find a space that allows your little ones to be free and explore their wild side.

When to Have it?

When planning a birthday party, timing is everything. Planning the birthday party in the afternoon or early evening is best so parents and kids have ample time to enjoy the activities and games without feeling too tired.

Additionally, it is essential to consider your little one’s nap time and schedule the birthday party accordingly so they are well-rested and ready to have fun.

When it comes to decorating for your “Wild One” birthday party, let’s get creative and have some fun, shall we?

One idea is to create a jungle or forest atmosphere with greenery and wild animal decor. Think about hanging vines and branches and placing stuffed animal lions, giraffes, and monkeys around the birthday party area. This will transport your guests to a wild and untamed land where anything can happen!

And why not add a touch of whimsy with some homemade wild thing masks or animal ear headbands for your guests to wear?

Remember, the key to decorating for a “Wild One” birthday party theme is to embrace the untamed and unpredictable nature of the party. So let’s let our creativity run wild and create a space that celebrates life and all the wildness that comes with it!

Here are some Wild One birthday party decorations to consider:

  • Wild animal balloons
  • Wooden “Wild One” sign
  • Wild animal-themed garlands
  • Forest green and gold plates, cups, and napkins
  • Wild animal masks for the children
  • Jungle vines and leaves hanging from the ceiling

There’s a wide variety of patterns that can be used for this theme!

Wild One Birthday Theme Backdrop

Creating a captivating backdrop for a wild one birthday theme adds an extra touch of excitement and sets the stage for a memorable photo shoot. Design your own or purchase one for easy decor. Here’s how you can bring the wild one theme to life with a striking backdrop:

Jungle Scene : Craft a jungle-inspired backdrop using green streamers, foliage, and printed images of trees, vines, and exotic animals like lions, giraffes, and elephants. You can also hang inflatable palm trees or use large cutouts of tropical leaves to enhance the jungle vibe.

Safari Sunset : Set the scene of an African savanna at sunset by using a backdrop with warm, vibrant colors like orange, red, and yellow. Incorporate silhouettes of wild animals against the setting sun for a dramatic effect.

Adventure Map : Create a backdrop that resembles a vintage treasure map, complete with faded parchment paper, compass roses, and markings indicating different areas of exploration. Add elements like binoculars, compasses, and magnifying glasses for an adventurous touch.

Animal Print Wall : Cover a large section of the backdrop with various animal prints such as leopard spots, zebra stripes, and tiger stripes. You can use fabric, paper, or printed images to create an eye-catching display.

Balloon Arch : Create a balloon arch using colors inspired by the wild one theme, such as earthy tones, vibrant greens, and animal print balloons. Add faux greenery, vines, and oversized leaves to give it a jungle-like feel. Making a DIY balloon garland is not too hard, especially with the kits available online.

Customized Banner : Hang a personalized banner with the guest of honor’s name and age, surrounded by wild animal graphics and jungle foliage. This adds a personalized touch to the backdrop while staying true to the theme. Etsy offers a great selection of made-to-order items.

Whichever backdrop you choose, ensure it complements the overall aesthetic of the wild one theme and provides a captivating backdrop for photos and memories.

1st Birthday Party Games and Activities

When it comes to planning games and activities for your “Wild One” 1st birthday party, keep in mind who is on your guest list.

Toddlers have endless energy and curiosity. So, let’s keep them engaged with some fun and imaginative games, shall we? One idea is to set up a sensory play area, where little ones can explore different textures and materials like sand, water, and slime. You can also create an animal-themed scavenger hunt where they search for hidden animal toys or stickers around the birthday party area.

A wild animal freeze dance party will be a party highlight, where the little ones can dance like their favorite jungle creatures and freeze when the music stops. And why not create a “Wild One” photo booth with animal masks and props where the kids can show off their wild side?

For a more calming activity, you can set up a reading corner with classic children’s books like “Where the Wild Things Are” and “Curious George.” This will give the little ones a chance to rest and recharge before jumping back into the birthday party fun.

Remember, the key to planning games and activities for a “Wild One” birthday theme is to keep them simple, playful, and imaginative.

Games are an excellent way to keep older children entertained at a wild one 1st birthday party. Here are some ideas for games that kids of all ages will enjoy on the big day:

  • Pin the Tail on the wild animal
  • Wild animal scavenger hunt (all family members can get involved in this one)
  • Wild animal piñata
  • Musical chairs with wild animal sounds (sure to be a big hit!)
  • Jungle photo op with animal masks and props
  • Put out markers and construction paper and ask them to create a jungle
  • Fill an inflatable pool with balls

Wild One Birthday Theme Food

For the little ones, why not create a wild animal-themed snack station? You can use animal-shaped cookie cutters to make sandwiches and cheese slices, and serve animal crackers and fruit skewers with cute animal picks. And don’t forget to offer some yummy and healthy snacks like carrot sticks and apple slices!

For the adults, you can keep things wild and fun by offering a variety of finger foods and appetizers. Serve a wild animal cheese board with different types of cheeses shaped like lions, giraffes, and monkeys. You can also offer some tasty snacks like vegetable dip, crackers, and fruit skewers.

For the main course, you can serve classic barbecue fare like grilled chicken, hamburgers, and hot dogs. And for the vegetarians in the group, grilled veggie skewers and portobello mushroom burgers are delicious options.

To quench your thirst, offer some wild and fruity drinks like jungle juice or a fruit punch with animal-shaped ice cubes. And for dessert, a “Wild One” birthday cake with animal-themed decorations is a must!

Remember, the key to food for a “Wild One” birthday theme is to keep it fun and playful, while also offering some healthy and delicious options.

Here are some birthday party food ideas for snacks and drinks that will appeal to children and adults alike:

  • Jungle-themed cupcakes with wild animal toppers

“Wild One” Banner : Decorate the cake with a banner that reads “Wild One” in playful letters. You can find pre-made banners or create your own using cardstock, twine, and animal-themed cutouts.

Safari Hat or Binoculars : Top the cake with miniature safari hats or binoculars to symbolize the adventurous spirit of the wild one theme. These can be made from fondant, gum paste, or plastic decorations.

Jungle Leaves and Palm Trees : Create a lush jungle scene on top of the cake by adding edible or decorative palm trees, vines, and tropical leaves. This adds a whimsical touch to the dessert table.

Personalized Name Topper : Customize a cake topper with the guest of honor’s name alongside jungle-themed elements like animals, leaves, or tribal patterns. This adds a personal touch to the cake while staying true to the wild one theme.

Gold Glitter Accents : Add a touch of glam to the cake with gold glitter accents on the topper or around the edges. This elevates the look and adds a celebratory flair to the dessert. Extra cute if you also have gold balloons at the party.

Choose a cake topper that reflects the guest of honor’s personality and fits seamlessly with the overall theme of the party. Whether it’s playful animal figurines or a personalized banner, the cake topper will surely be a delightful addition to the celebration.

Jungle Animals Cake (A Safari Themed Cake)

Published: Oct 3, 2020 · Modified: Mar 13, 2024 by Priya Maha

Learn how to make jungle animals cake with this decorating guide. This 1st birthday cake was made in 3 tiers and decorated with cute handmade fondant animals including a little monkey literally swinging on a lovely 3D fondant tree topper.

Poster for a 3 tier jungle themed cake with fondant animal toppers.

I made this jungle animals cake for a 1-year old boy’s birthday. The party theme was centered around jungle animals and the mother requested me to design a cake to match the theme in green and yellow. So I made sure to have those 2 colors as the main ones on the cake. She also requested that the birthday boy is represented with a monkey topper!

🧾Supplies Required

👩‍🍳how to make, ❤️more tutorials you will love.

  • Cake – this was a 3 tier cake measuring 6 inches, 9 inches and 12 inches in diameter. And each tier was 4 inches high. I cannot recall the cake recipes I used for each of the tiers, but they were all from  my cake recipes collection here.
  • Buttercream  – Each tier of the cake was filled with buttercream. I also used buttercream to crumb coat each cake tier before covering them with fondant.
  • Fondant – I used  Satin Ice for the entire project. Some were ready to use colors namely pastel yellow, chocolate brown, yellow, orange, green, blue, white, pink, red and black. I also used food colors to tint white into navy blue (using  Americolor Navy Blue  ), light green (using  Americolor Avocado  ).
  • Shortening and  fondant glue  – I used these interchangeably, shortening for smaller lighter fondant pieces and the glue for heavier ones.
  • Gold Dust  and  lemon extract   – I mixed these to form edible gold paint for the crown on the monkey.
  • Green petal dust  - I used this to give more depth to the tree trunks on the cake.
  • Floral wire – These were to make the 3D trees on the cake, the monkey’s hands, legs and tail as well as the string on the balloon held by the elephant. I used  18 gauge  for the trunk (about 3 for the trunk and used thinner gauge wires for the branches. I joined these wires to the 18 gauge wires with brown floral tape). As for the monkey and the balloon, I used 24 gauge  .
  • Brown Floral Tape
  • Styrofoam balls  – these measured about 3 cm in diameter and were used as the base for 2of the animals, i.e., the elephant and lion.
  • Extruder tool  – I used this for the cake border as well as the vines, and borders for the plaques on the cake.
  • Plunger cutters in  oval  ,  round  ,  5 petal flowers  ,  star  and  hearts   – the oval ones were mainly for the leaves on the tree, round for the polka dots on the second tier, 5-petal flowers for the leaves base on the smaller tree, stars for the lion’s party hat and heart for the 2 Red hearts on the plaques.
  • Gerbera daisy petal cutter  – I used this to make the lion’s mane.
  • Clikstix Groovy Alphabet Cutters
  • Plaque cutters   – I used one for the birthday boy’s name and the other for the words, ‘Our Prince is 1’.
  • Scalloped round cutter set   – I used the smallest cutter for the larger 3D tree on the cake.
  • Pizza cutter  – this was a general cutting tool
  • Needle Tool  – This was mostly to mark the trunk grain pattern on the 3D tree trunks.
  • Sugar Craft Knife
  • Fondant shaping tools   – these were used to help in shaping the deco that was placed on the cake as well as the animals.

I started by preparing the animals toppers first. All of them were formed by hand. And I used one Styrofoam ball each as the base.

There are 2 reasons for using Styrofoam balls. Firstly, it saves on my fondant. Secondly, the animals set much faster. And are much lighter too. This was particularly important for the monkey topper as its entire weight was supported by its thin tail. Having a lighter weight makes a lot of difference.

I had a total of 4 animal toppers on this jungle animals cake – the monkey, giraffe, elephant, and lion. I did not capture step by step images of making these animals, but I do have the close-up pictures.

A fondant monkey hanging down a fondant tree on a cake.

Step 1: Make the Elephant Cake Topper

Mix the fondant - I started by mixing white and black to create the grey fondant. And then, using one Styrofoam ball as the base, I formed the elephant’s body.

Make the head - Next was the head. To make the head, I formed a large tear drop with the tip not so pointed. And then, I refined the tip to form the elephant trunk and the base of the tear drop as the face.  I used the end of my piping tip to imprint the elephant’s mouth and attached 2 small pink balls on each corner.

Make the eyes - For the eyes, I formed 2 white ovals, added 2 smaller dots of black and added thin eyelids made in grey on each eye.

3d fondant elephant with a string around its trunk.

Make the ears - This animal's ears were made in grey and pink. So were the hands and legs. All were formed by hand. I started by pinching out 2 equal-sized pieces of grey fondant, rolled each into equal-sized sausages, and then pressed one of each ends thin. I then used glue to attach the flattened part of the legs to the elephant’s body.

Make and attach the paws - For the animal's paws, I cut out small circles of pink and attached to the paws with shortening. The hands were formed in a similar manner too. And finally, I used my skewer to mark the elephant’s belly button!

Add the balloon - As for the balloon, I made it with fondant but the string holding it was floral wire. I poked one end of the wire into the balloon (I made the balloon in advance and let it set before putting it on wire as I did not want to risk the wire poking through the wet fondant of the balloon) and the formed a loop on the other end. Once the elephant was set and firm, I carefully inserted the loop through the elephant trunk.

3d fondant elephant with a string around its trunk.

Step 2: Make the Lion Cake Topper

Make the body and the face - This guy was pretty easy to make. I used orange and brown mostly, with a little bit of white and black for the eyes. I also used my gerbera daisy mold to make the mane.

Similar to the elephant, I used a small Styrofoam ball as the base. And then I formed the head and attached the lion’s eyes, nose, mouth and eye brows and one ear (the other ear was not necessary as the party hat was supposed to cover it).

Make and attach the legs - Next were the legs. Again, each one of these started off as sausage-shaped pieces. For the top legs, I formed the paws on one end and flattened the other ends thin by pressing them with my fingers.

Attach the paws - For the animal's paws, I used my sugar craft knife and cut 3 shallow lines to mark the lion’s paws. And the I attached the hands to the lion’s body. Next were the legs which were formed almost similar to the hands except that the opposite ends of the paws were not pressed thin. Instead, they were flattened and attached to the body with some glue. And for the paws, I added small round brown pieces.

Make the mane - For the mane, I used my smallest gerbera daisy cutter and made 3 pieces in brown. 1 piece went in between the body and the face while the other 2 pieces went to the back of the lion’s head.  I attached all with glue.

Make the party hat - Next was the animal's party hat in blue fondant. I shaped it into a cone and topped it with a tiny yellow ball. And then I added yellow stars all around it. And finally, I rolled a thin strip in green and attached it around the base of the blue cone with glue. I let the lion set firmly before attaching the party hat to it.

Add the tail - And finally, I added the lion’s long tail.

Step 3: Make the Giraffe Cake Topper

3D fondant giraffe with a bow, sitting on a cake.

Prepare the fondant - I used 5 colors for the giraffe namely yellow, light brown, chocolate brown, black and white. The body was made using white fondant tinted with Wilton golden yellow.

The brown dots on the giraffe were chocolate brown fondant that has been lightened with some white fondant. The giraffe’s horns and mane at the back of its neck were made using chocolate brown fondant.  The black was for the bow and eyes while the white also went of the eyes.

Form the body and head - To make the giraffe, I started off by rolling my fondant into a short fat sausage. And then I continued rolling one end to make it long and thin. This end was to form the neck and the other end was for the body.

Next was the head. I formed a round ball and then rolled it slightly to elongate it. And then I formed another small yellow ball, pressed it flat with my fingers and attached to the front of the face as the mouth. I used my skewer to mark the nostrils and the back of my piping tip to mark the mouth.

I formed the eyes in white and added black eyeballs to it. For the ears, I used my oval plunger cutter. I used my fingers to make one end of each eye pointy and pinched the other end so that they get folded slightly. I attached these to the head with glue.

Make and attach the horns - Next were the animal's horns. I rolled 2 equal sized thin brown pieces into thin sausages and attached them to the top of the giraffe’s head. To help the horns stay in place while the glue dries, I formed 2 small dents on the head with the end of my brush and attached the horns into these dents. That way, it was so much easier to keep them in place. Once they had become firm, I attached tiny brown ball on each horn, also with glue.

Add the legs and hooves - I left the head to set aside while I worked on the giraffe’s hands and legs. The steps I took to form these were similar to the elephant and lion above.

However, this time, since the legs were hanging from the side of the cake, when making the giraffe, I placed it on a piece of round Styrofoam and let the legs hang on its side while waiting for the giraffe to set and for the rest of the cake decoration to be ready.

Once the hands and legs were in place, I cut out small circles (in 2 different sizes) in brown. I attached them randomly on the body. I also attached the brown circles for the hooves.

Make the mane and bow - And then I added the head followed by the giraffe’s mane which I cut using the scalloped blade of my pizza cutter. I attached the mane using glue.

Next, I added a black bow around the animal's neck.  The bow was just a thin strip of black wrapped around the neck and another piece of the same sized black fondant that was formed into a bow.

Step 4: Make the Monkey Cake Topper

This was the trickiest of all the 4 animals on this cake. And that was simply because this little guy was to hang onto a 3D tree branch by his tail.

The body had a Styrofoam ball as the base and the hands and legs were all wired. I formed them in fondant and slowly insert a thin wire through each arm and leg and then attached them to the body.

The tail was also wired. And I shaped it into a hook so that it will be easy to hang him up on his tail on the tree branch as well as easily take him off the tree. This was because I needed to take him off the tree when transporting the cake so that all the shaking during the drive does not detach his tail off the body.

The head was made entirely of fondant. And so was the crown (white painted in gold). The eyes, mouth, nose and ears were all made of fondant too.

Step 5: Make the Fondant Tree

I had 2 of these trees on the cake. The larger one on top of the cake as a topper and a slightly smaller one on the side of the 3 rd  cake tier. These trees were made using floral wire. If you see closer, you will notice that all the branches on each tree are wires.

I used thicker wire (18 gauge) for the trunk for more stability. For the branches, I used thinner wires (gauge 24). To join these thinner wire to the trunk, I used brown floral tape. I also used the tape to tape the branches that were coming out of the tree truck together.

For the wood grain pattern on the trunks, I used my needle tool and drew the pattern by hand. And then I dusted it with dark green petal dust.

As for the leaves, I cut out green pieces of round scalloped pieces (using the smallest cutter in my scalloped cutter set. I used my 5-petal flower plunger cutter for the smaller tree) and glued 2 pieces together randomly on the wire branches (with the wire branches sandwiched in between).

And then I used my oval plunger cutter for the leaves in a few different shades of green. I attached the leaves randomly on the scalloped pieces.

I also attached yellow flowers on the tree. These were made using my small flower plunger cutter.

Step 6: Bake the Cakes

Once all the cakes were baked and have cooled down, I leveled, filled and crumb coated them with buttercream. And then covered I them with fondant.

The first and third tiers were in green (Americolor Avocado food color mixed with white fondant) while the second tier was in pastel yellow. And then, I stacked them all up.

Step 7: Attach the Birthday Boy's Name

Next was the fun part i.e., the decoration. I started by putting up the birthday boy’s name and all other lettering on the cake. For the plaques on the second tier, I used plaque cutters. The wooden planks on the 3 rd  tier were strips of chocolate brown. I cut these by hand.

Once the lettering was all done and attached to the cake, I completed the second tier decorations by adding a white fondant ribbon all around the tier.

To frame the white plaques and the fondant ribbon around the cake, I used my extruder tool to pipe thin rolls of brown. I attached this as the border, with shortening. And then I finished off the second tier with green polka dots using my circle plunger cutter and green border (piped using the extruder tool).

Step 8: Attach the Trees to the Cake

For the third tier, I started by attaching the tree on the side first.  I used glue so that the tree would stick securely to the side of the cake as well as the cake board. And then I used my extruder tool to pipe the vines around the top edge of the cake. I piped these in brown and green.

And then I added the leaves in random order in a combination of green tones and yellow. I did the same for the top tier. I also added the leaves on the cake board.

Step 9: Attach the Grass Border

And finally, I added the grass borders for both tiers. I rolled and cut my green fondant into long strips and used the pizza cutter to form the grass.

Step 10: Add a Tiny Cake with Candle Topper

Next was the tiny birthday cake on the top tier. I made this by hand with light blue fondant shaped into a tiny cake. And then I added the white icing on top in white, followed by the handmade candle.

After the cake, I attached the larger tree on the first tier. Since the trunk consisted of a number of wires grouped together, it was convenient to use the extra wire at the base to hold the tree in place on the cake. I did not poke the entire group of wires into the cake. I only used 2 and cut off the rest.

And the two that went into the cake were inserted into lollipop sticks first so that there was no direct contact of the wires with the cake.

Step 11: Attach the Fondant Animal Toppers

And finally, I added the animals. I did this at the party venue which means I transported the cake and the animals separately.

All the animals were glued to the cake except for the monkey which was left hanging on the branch by its tail.

And that's my jungle animals birthday cake.

A jungle theme is a common kiddie party theme because there’s just something about animals in the wild that children find cool, mysterious, and amazing. Don’t get me wrong, the theme works for grownups, too. Contrary to popular belief, there are several ways to go about a jungle cake. This list of unique safari and jungle cake ideas will show you.

Having planned several jungle-themed parties for my nephews and friends in the past, I would admit that it can be a real struggle to find a cake that’s unique and different. That’s because when we talk about a jungle cake, we always picture the same elements: animals, trees, leaves, and a color palette that’s mainly brown and green. It’s almost always the same animals, too: lion, giraffe, elephant, and probably a monkey.

The good thing is that you can go for a jungle theme and veer away from the jungle cake cliché because there are some unique jungle cake ideas you can get inspiration from.

My Bottom Line Up Front

A jungle-themed cake is not just for little kids. Grownups, who love nature and animals, would appreciate a jungle cake, too. I would prefer something out of the usual fondant jungle cake with gum paste animals. I’d go for a number cake with buttercream topped with a mix of jungle animal decorations and the usual meringues, chocolates, fruits, and macarons.

Narrowing Down Jungle Cake Ideas

Getting unique jungle cake ideas may be difficult because you would have to sift through so many of the more common ones. So to help you save time, I have done it for you. In selecting these cakes, I made sure they fit the jungle or safari theme or that they have elements representing some of our favorite jungle animals.

I also look for the uniqueness factor. This is the tricky bit because “unique” is relative and could mean different things to different people. For me, however, jungle cakes are unique if they fit any of these criteria:

  • They apply any modern cake decorating trend.
  • They stay away from the traditional fondant animal models.
  • They stay away from using plastic trees and animal toys as toppers or decorations.
  • They are more experimental and adventurous with the use of colors.
  • They don’t stick to the usual color palette of greens and browns.
  • They are more creative in the representation of animals or jungle life.

Jungle Cake Ideas

1. baby jungle cake.

Jungle cakes with fondant animals are quite common and ordinary. So, some cakemakers give it a new — and cuter — twist by modeling the jungle animals as baby animals. The foliage will be done in fondant, too.

This uber-cute first birthday cake has buttercream frosting with a baby lion, baby giraffe, baby monkey, and baby elephant that are finely modeled in fondant. The leaves provide the foliage for this cake.

Here’s another take on baby jungle animals. This fondant cake also has a baby for a safari tour on a jeep. The name on the base is painted in gold, which is pretty trendy these days.

This jungle cake has baby animals in fondant, but it doesn’t have the usual green foliage. Instead, the leaves are pink and brushed with gold on the sides.

2. Cake with Gold-painted Toys

I know that little toy animals are overused as jungle cake toppers. But if you want a unique and modern twist to this otherwise very common jungle cake decoration, paint it gold. Gold, after all, is a very stylish color these days.

This three-tier buttercream birthday cake takes the jungle theme to a higher level by spray-painting the toy animals’ gold. This makes the toys look less plastic and cheap and classy. To make things more interesting, the cakemaker also wrapped the middle tier with a leopard print wafer paper, then topped the cake with dried pampas grass — both of which are modern cake decorating tools.

3. Prehistoric Jungle

Well, if you’ve decided on a jungle theme for your birthday, it doesn’t have to be the jungle as we know it now. You can go back to prehistoric times!z

This vanilla and Nutella jungle cake shows us exactly what we mean when we say prehistoric, with a T-rex and some plastic foliage right on top of it. The T-rex even has a little party hat and bowtie on and is holding a balloon! The cakemaker also showcases their piping skills on this one. That acrylic name in front of the cake adds a touch of elegance and sophistication.

Here’s another take on the prehistoric jungle cake. This time, T-rex is accompanied by a stegosaurus on top. The green pipings are still there to add texture and more greens to an otherwise overly basic cake.

The cakemaker decided to paint the dinosaurs gold for this buttercream cake. There are synthetic leaves for foliage and pallet knife elements on the sides.

4. Quilt-style Jungle Cake

This cute safari or jungle cake has an expertly executed quilted effect, with the fondant animals and other decorative elements sporting “stitches,” thus making them look like they were sewn.

5. Colorful Jungle Cake

A jungle theme doesn’t have to be dominantly green and brown. Experiment with color combinations. Or you can apply the celebrant’s favorite colors.

This fondant jungle cake, for example, is dominantly pink. Some of the leavers, the balls, the elephant’s ears, and the monkey’s party hat are pink.

More colors aren’t a bad idea. That’s what this fondant cake proves. The flowers give this cake a much-needed touch of pinks and purples, plus there’s a little bit of blue added to an otherwise green palette.

Of course, you can do a jungle theme sparingly, and for a lilac or lavender cake at that. There’s not even a tinge of green in sight. This fondant cake also proves that even if you only have an elephant and a monkey, that’s already enough.

6. Number Jungle Cake

Number cakes are very popular and in vogue right now. These are cakes that are shaped in a number from the top view, which number represents the birthday celebrant’s age. So why not incorporate the two concepts and make a number cake with a jungle theme?

This number cake for a baby girl’s first birthday showcases lots of bright colors. It has colorful cream pipings in various shapes and sizes, fondant animal faces, and fondant leaves. Here’s another safari number cake , for a baby boy turning a year old. This cake has a more subdued color palette. The theme is carried out through cookies with iced animal illustrations, leopard print, and leaves.

Take a look at this safari number cake with yellow and green piping. The animals are made of macarons.

7. King of the Jungle Cake with Synthetic Foliage

If you want a jungle-themed cake but want to keep things simple and avoid overcrowding your cake with too many animals, then just pick one. There’s no better choice than the king of the jungle himself: the lion.

A toy lion was painted gold for this cake. And just so nobody makes any mistake about him being the king of the jungle, a gold crown is there on top of the cake with him. Add some plastic foliage for more depth and more greens, sprinkle gold, silver, and white balls, then paint the sides with green buttercream using a pallet knife.

Another cake with just the lion roaring away. This cake has the trendy palm leaf in gold foil, chocolate balls, dried grass and leaves, and palette knife painting.

8. Paper-crafted Animal Toppers

You may want to consider making paper-crafted jungle animals as cake toppers. All you need are color boards or specialized paper products, a pair of scissors, glue, and sticks. If you have a Cricut machine, that would be swell, too!

This cake has animal toppers made out of a textured board.

You can also go for printed paper animal cutouts, like the ones on this cake . It’s also nice that this cake has palette knife painting on the side using soft pastel colors.

Paper animal toppers like these also look very cute on a cake.

You can create paper animals and punch leaves for your foliage .

9. Fondant Foliage

While fondant animal figures aren’t exactly a new and different thing, you can still make your cake look modern and stylish by using trendy foliage. Monstera leaves, for example, are quite trendy these days.

10. Palm Leaf + Stencil

This cake uses a combination of modern decorating techniques to turn an otherwise common theme and make it more contemporary-looking. As you can see, the cakemaker used the usual toy animals, but to give it a unique twist, they added a gold palm leaf and a buttercream stencil design on the side.

How about a light blue, white, and gold buttercream cake with gold palm leaf and subtle stencil at the front ? The animals are your usual toys from the dollar store, but they’ve been painted gold.

11. Piped Animal Frosting

Who says your jungle cake has to be three-dimensional? It could still look totally cute with a 2D decoration. By 2D I mean piping the design in colored buttercream icing on top of the cake so that it could be seen from the top view.

12. Edible Jungle Images

Edible images are pictures that are printed on edible icing paper using edible ink. So you can print jungle animals and use them as toppers. You can find suppliers or sellers online who could print the images you’d like.

Take this three-tier jungle Christening cake for example. All the animals are edible images, while the leaves are modeled from fondant.

13. Animal Cookie Toppers

You can pipe your design on a sugar or butter cookie using royal icing, then use the cookie as a topper. This cake, for instance, has lion and zebra cookies on top of the Swiss vanilla meringue buttercream.

These tiger and cheetah cookies are so meticulously done. They are painted using edible colors.

If you’re going for a prehistoric jungle, you can go for dinosaur cookies. These cookies have a dinosaur skeleton design and are dusted gold. The leaves are made of fondant.

14. Minimalist Jungle Cake

This cake is a great example of a minimalist cake. Its design details are very simple, with very basic shapes. Even the lion topper doesn’t require mad gum paste modeling skills.

15. Animal Fur Wrap Cakes

Edible image cake wraps are yet another cake decorating technique. These are designs or patterns printed on sugar sheets or wafer paper that you can wrap around the sides of your buttercream cake. You can get cake wraps with animal or fur prints for your jungle-themed cake.

This jungle cake has a different fur pattern for each layer. The first layer is wrapped in leopard print, the second layer in zebra print, and the third layer in giraffe print. Fondant animal figures are lounging on top of every tier.

16. The Lion is Not the Star

We can talk about jungles and leave the lions out of it. They’re not always the star of the show. With that being said, you can go ahead and let the giraffe or the zebra take the spotlight.

This pink jungle cake, for instance, only features a fondant giraffe and no other. Top it with dried bunny tails, pink blooms, pink monstera leaves, and pink macarons and you have one very feminine cake.

Here’s not just one, not just two, but three giraffes frolicking in the savanna. This cake is mostly beige and brown, with dried grass and brown buttercream smeared on the sides.

Here’s another gorgeous cake with a zebra at the center of it all. The zebra’s black and white stripes, as well as the black and white cake wrapper, provide a dramatic contrast against the pink surface of the cake.

And why not a giraffe and a zebra together ?

This cake only has a giraffe and an elephant. But what I probably find more unique is that the first tier is in a shade of green I don’t usually see in a jungle cake.

17. No Animals, No Problem

This jungle cake shows you that you can stay true to the theme even without animals involved. You only need leaves, something that says “wild,” and you’re ready.

18. Animal Silhouette Cake

You can cut out animal silhouettes from glittery paper and put them on your buttercream cake. Add a glittery acrylic topper, like this “Wild One” topper, and some foliage to complete the look.

19. Wooden Animal Cutouts

You can use wooden animal cutouts for your toppers or ornaments and add a combination of synthetic and real dried leaves.

20. Two-Tone Jungle Cake

Again, there are ways to make your jungle cake unique and elegant even if you decided to use toys from the dollar store. How? Use modern decorating styles and two-tone frosting.

This cake, for example, has buttercream frosting in white and a very soft pistachio green. Spice it up with gold palm leaf, gold names, dried pampas grass, and colored chocolate balls.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answer: Technically, jungle and safari are two different things. A jungle is a forest with densely overgrown trees and tangled vegetation, while a safari refers to a trip or excursion. In other words, a jungle is a place while a safari is more of an activity. But when it comes to party themes, you can apply either “jungle” or “safari” to refer to anything about animals in the wild like giraffes, lions, rhinos, elephants, tigers, monkeys, and more.

Answer: Jungle cake pricing depends on a lot of things. It would depend on the kind of cake you want, the flavor and the ingredients needed to make it, the frosting, the design, the size, and the decorative techniques and elements used. Cake prices also vary from baker to baker because of varying skill levels. If you want to have an idea of how much you need to set aside or allot for your cake budget, the best option is to call bakeshops and inquire. You can give them a picture or a description of the cake you want to order, they will suggest flavors based on their specialty, and they can give you an estimated price.

Answer: Jungle cakes are usually great for birthdays and even baby showers. Sometimes, the jungle theme is used for other celebrations, too, like Christening and even graduations. The theme is mostly used for kids since they’re usually the ones who are most fascinated with animals. Of course, I don’t mean to say that the theme doesn’t suit adults, because as long as you love animals and the wild, a jungle cake would still be a great idea.

Jungle-themed cakes have been around for as long as I can remember. So it’s safe to say that the jungle or safari theme never goes out of style. I think part of what makes the theme attractive is the fact that it’s more generic and you have more freedom to give it your own spin and your own interpretation. You don’t need to refer to a particular character or a specific color palette.

Make your sugar syrup by boiling the water with the sugar and adding the vanilla extract at the end. Let it cool off.

Making the Filling

Make the whipped chocolate ganache following the steps in this recipe. Make this at least a 8 hours before you are ready to assemble the cake as it needs to cool off in the fridge before whipping it.

Set aside 200 g of the whipped ganache to crumb coat the cake before covering it with fondant.

Then, add the ground walnuts to the remaining whipped ganache and fold them in with a spatula.

Assembling and Decorating the Cake

Assembling the cake.

Spread some filling on your 10’’ cake board and place the first cake layer on top. Moisten it with sugar syrup and spread whipped chocolate ganache filling on top (~300 g of ganache per layer). Repeat the steps for the 2nd and 3rd cake layers. Lastly, place the 4th cake layer on top and moisten it with sugar syrup.

safari first birthday cake

Repeat the steps for the 7’’ cake. You should spread ~ 200g whipped ganache per cake layer.

safari first birthday cake

Crumb coat the cakes with a thin layer of the ganache you saved. Refrigerate them for 1-2 hours.

Covering the Cakes with Fondant

Knead and roll 2/3 of your green fondant to cover the 10’’ inch cake.

Before rolling out your fondant, sprinkle some powdered sugar or cornstarch on your work surface and knead it until it has a workable consistency and it doesn’t feel and look dry.

safari first birthday cake

Use a measuring tape or a piece of string to measure the top and sides of the cake. So if you measured 10’’ across the top and your cake is 4’’ tall that is 18’’ of cake in total so you need to roll out the fondant at least 20 inches in diameter but you should leave an inch or two extra.  Sprinkle some powdered sugar onto your work surface and roll out the green fondant in the approximate shape of your cake (i.e. circle for a round cake). As you are rolling it make sure you lift the fondant occasionally and rotate it 45 degrees to make sure it doesn’t stick to your work surface. If it sticks lift the fondant and sprinkle more powdered sugar or cornstarch.

Gently lift fondant over rolling pin and place it on the side of the cake. Start unrolling the fondant from the side of the cake and across the top to the other side.

safari first birthday cake

Smooth the fondant with a fondant smoother (or the palm of your hand) starting from the top.  Start to gently pull the fondant out and down around the sides of the cake using one hand and spread the excess fondant and smooth it out using a fondant smoother (or your other hand).

Keep turning the cake and repeating these steps until the sides are smooth and without any ruffles formed towards the bottom. It’s better if you use a fondant smoother since the pressure of your hands could leave marks and the warmth from your hands might make the fondant sticky.

Use your fondant smoother to get rid of any wrinkles and air bubbles as well.  If you see any air bubbles, insert a pin on an angle, release the air and smooth the area again.

Trim the edges at the bottom using an X-Acto knife , a pizza cutter or any other sharp knife you have.

safari first birthday cake

Repeat the same steps to cover the 7’’ cake and place it on the 7’’ cake board.

safari first birthday cake

Cut 4 boba straws or cake dowels to the height of the 10’’ cake and insert them into the cake.

safari first birthday cake

Spread another bit of frosting on top and place the 7’’ cake on top.

Making the Fondant Decorations

Sprinkle some powdered sugar or cornstarch on your work surface and roll out the brown fondant. Gently press the tree bark fondant impression mat onto the fondant to give it the wood effect.

safari first birthday cake

Cut a 3.5’’ x 4.5’’ square to make the wooden sign post. Then, cut a thin 1’’ x 6’’ strip to make the post. Lastly, cut two thin strips for the top and bottom edges of the sign.

safari first birthday cake

Assemble the sign post by using a bit of water to glue everything together.

safari first birthday cake

Use the tappit cutter to make the number 1 and attach it to your sign.

Make the leaves for the palm trees using the leaf cutters and the dark green fondant. Then, for the tree trunk, roll a log out of brown fondant and make some indentations using the back of a knife blade or the blunt knife fondant tool.

Use the Upper Case Tappit Cutters and Lower Case Funky Alphabet Tappit Cutters to make the letters of your kid’s name out of yellow fondant. Use the flower plunger cutter to make the small flowers out of white fondant.

Paint the bear paws on the cake using brown food colouring mixed with a few drops of vodka or water.

I made a 5’’ Smash Cake following the same recipes and steps above. You just need to reduce the ingredients – e.g. make each cake out of 4 eggs, use about 300 g of whipped ganache filling.

Coolest Jungle and Safari Cake Ideas

This safari cake was made using a half slab three layer cake baked from scratch. Once it was iced I used a grass tip to cover most of the cake leaving out the middle. I made the middle into a lagoon by icing it blue and adding some gum paste flowers.

The writing is also done using gum paste and the Wiltons letter cut out set. The palm trees were made using small waffle cones. I cut the ends off so they would be flat on top and I attached three pre formed gum paste leaves to each. The vines are made in much the same way. I rolled the green gum paste into ropes and cut slits into them using small scissors. Tip-make all gum paste accessories a couple of days in advance to ensure they are completely dry when you need them.

Jungle and Safari Cake

This safari cake was prepared in a 12″x18″ pan and covered with buttercream frosting and crumbled sugar cookies that had been dyed reddish-orange. In the corner I placed two smaller cakes to look like a small hill. The water was created by melting sugar in the microwave with a tiny hint of blue color.

The 3-D Nordic Ware cookie cutters were used to create the animals, however, some (i.e. the alligator tiger and leopard) were modified from the original cutters. The cookies were then decorated with a glossy icing recipe made of 1 cup sugar, 2 tsp milk, 2 tsp light corn syrup, 1/4 tsp vanilla then add food coloring. The tree and monkeys were drawn out by hand and cut directly on the cookie pan before baking.

Jungle and Safari Cake

I made this safari cake for my son’s second birthday. The recipe came from The Whimsical Bake house cookbook. The animals are made out of melted colored chocolate. I made them about one month in advance and refrigerated them. They were quite time consuming. I also added a layer and extra animals. The techniques are all explained very well in the cookbook and there are many different cake and filling recipes that can be used.

This is the first cake I have ever made like this and if I can do it anyone can! This safari cake was a hit!

Jungle and Safari Cake

I made this safari cake for my daughter’s eighth birthday “Safari” party. It’s a 13×9 sheet cake (from a box) and an angel food cake (also from a box). I got the general idea from a cake I saw in a magazine but adapted it to make it my own. The cake is covered in white frosting tinted green or blue where appropriate and rimmed with grated graham cracker “sand”. The yellow rocks are rock-shaped gum pieces (sort of like Gold Rush gum only bigger). The pool is made of blue jello (which the kids actually ate!). I made the Jigglers recipe on the box so it wouldn’t be watery at room temperature after cooling. I frosted the hole in the angel food cake so that there would be a barrier between the liquid jello and the cake itself. The river is also Jigglers jello that I chilled in a cake pan then cut a strip long enough to go from one side of the cake to the other.

Now for the fun part of the safari cake- the decorations! The people are just teddy grahams dressed up with royal icing that was tinted various colors. I have them toasting marshmallows, sleeping, standing around, and climbing the rope, swimming, playing with a beach ball, riding the waterfall, sitting in the canoe and sunbathing. The beach balls are just gum balls. The tents are graham crackers draped with starburst fruit chews. I heated the fruit chews in the microwave to soften them up a bit then rolled them out. The canoe is an Airheads candy pinched into a canoe shape with a pretzel jammed in for a seat. The fire is a pile of pretzels with bits of fruit chews to simulate flames. The logs are tootsie rolls.

The flowers are flower-shaped sprinkles I applied with tweezers. The tall grass along the outside edge consists of fried noodles dipped in green candy melts cooled on waxed paper then stuck into the green frosting. The climbing rope is made from Twizzlers Pull & Peels that I peeled apart and knotted. The beach towels are Airheads Extremes Sour Belts (rainbow). The tiki torches are pretzels with bits of fruit chews stuck to the tops. The “foam” in the water is white decorator’s gel.

Jungle and Safari Cake

On the back of the safari cake is an underwater scene. It shows fish bubbles, seaweed, sand and rocks. The fish are of course Goldfish! The seaweed is fruit-by-the-foot that I cut into tapered strips and stuck into the frosting. The bubbles are little dots of white decorator’s gel and the sand and rocks are of course graham cracker crumbs and rock gum. The palm tree trunks are Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies Cereal Straws. The palm fronds are candy melts that I piped through a zip-top bag onto waxed paper that was draped over some spoons (so they weren’t flat). After they cooled I “glued” them onto the straws with more candy melts then added Cocoa Puffs cereal coconuts and set them upside-down in shallow cups to cool and harden. The cereal straws are rigid so sticking them into the cake was enough to keep them standing. Whatever green candy melts were leftover I made into flat “bushes” and stuck them here and there in the green frosting too.

The Humvee is the only non-edible piece on this cake! I used super-tall super-skinny candles and made sure to put them between the trees and not under them! On a personal note the teddy grahams dude that’s going “kowabunga!” down the waterfall…yeah that was definitely both of my kids’ favorite part of the whole cake! If you make this safari cake consider involving your kids in the process of which teddy grahams are doing what activity. They’ll love it!

Jungle and Safari Cake

This safari cake was for my niece’s first birthday. I made a single layer sheet cake (pound cake) with buttercream Icing. I covered it in white fondant. Since this was my first time using fondant I practiced making the animals, trees, rocks etc. earlier in the week. However most of them turned out too big or got very hard and broke (I guess I didn’t store them properly).

I used Wilton’s predyed fondant and dyed some fondant myself (the brown and yellow). I thought of movies like the Lion King and Tarzan for my design layout. I used the buttercream icing like a glue and dowel rods to help things stay in place.

The sand is just brown sugar. I used a lot of Wilton products (fondant, roller cutters, flower makers etc.)

Jungle and Safari Cake

My son turned one in August and I knew I wanted to have a jungle them birthday. I began my search for the perfect safari cake and the more I looked the more I thought “I can make his cake”! The idea for this cake came from a combination of several pictures I found online. I combined ideas and came up with the cake you see here.

The bottom layer was white cake with strawberry cream filling. I used white buttercream icing for the entire cake and then cut triangular shapes for the zebra stripes wrapping them around far enough that the top layer would cover and blend. The top layer was chocolate with a caramel filling. I colored the icing for the second layer with a golden yellow and cut the spots out of brown fondant. The top of the cake is green fondant (I just traced the cake pan onto the fondant for a perfect fit) and I used the grass tip to create the border. I made my fondant animals by following the instructions on the Wilton website. The same was true for the palm trees.

This safari cake was a hit and the best part is it has jump started a side business for me!

Jungle and Safari Cake

After a trip to the zoo with the twins that I have been babysitting for over a year I decided to design and make a safari cake for their birthday. I reviewed many other submissions to gather ideas and decide how to make it work. To give myself more time for the fondant details I used boxed cake mixes and pre-made icing.

After baking I trimmed the top tier to appear as if it was tilting. Next I made two batches of marshmallow fondant and began covering each tier in sand colored fondant. Then I cut blue fondant to look like waves on one side and attached it to the bottom tier with a few drops of water. I made sure to leave extra blue fondant along the bottom of the cake so that I could use it as a platform for the sand and whale. Next I cut out and attached strips of fondant for sea weed and fish.

I sprinkled brown sugar around the base of the cake and got to work on the animals. I rolled out each body part individually for the animals and let them dry before attaching the parts with drops of water from a paintbrush. For heavy body parts like the elephant’s trunk, I inserted toothpicks for stability. I used a food safe marker to draw in the faces lastly.

I made a small banner by printing the message from my computer cutting it into the right shape and attaching it to toothpicks to stick in the cake. The palm tree trunk for the top tier is a pretzel stick and then I cut the leaves out of fondant attaching them to a ball of fondant smashed on top of the pretzel. I used dowel rods and cake plates to secure the tiers and would recommend keeping them separate until right before serving – it won’t travel well totally completed.

Everyone was amazed at how great the safari cake turned out including me. This is my third cake and I never thought it would come out like this.

Jungle and Safari Cake

I made this safari cake as a practice run for the cake I am going to make for my son’s fifth birthday. I used MMF to make the animals and decorations. The cake is white with buttercream frosting between the layers and underneath the MMF. This was actually a very easy cake to make, a little time consuming but easy. I used no special tools or pans either so anyone can make this with what ever they have laying around.

The cakes where cut down from 9″ to 8″ and 5″. I only have two 9″cake pans so I had to bake the cake in stages. And the MMF worked perfectly. I recommend it to everybody.

Jungle and Safari Cake

I got the idea for this safari cake from the Nick Jr. Web site. My daughter is a Diego nut! So a rainforest theme for her second birthday was a hit! The cake is simply two 8″ rounds with icing in-between iced green. I pre made all the edible decorations.

The trees are easy. Buy a small paint brush, microwave green Wilton’s chocolates for 30 seconds and paint in the shape of leaves. Allow the leaves to set (freezer or fridge speeds this up), then use a dab of the chocolate to attach the leaves to the trunks (pretzel sticks). The bananas are Runts banana candies (but could be made of chocolate the same way); they were also attached with a dab of chocolate.

The leaves on the cake are cut out of green fruit roll up. The Bobo brothers are made out of chocolate. Simply print off the outline from the nick jr website and paint with Wilton’s chocolate. We also made more than two so that each child at the party was sure to have one chocolate monkey and one tree to eat! They had ideas for more animals on the cake but we chose to put plastic store bought Diego and baby Jaguar in the middle of the forest because it is my daughters favorite!

Jungle and Safari Cake

I saw a similar safari cake in the Dora section and modified it! The top is a mountain (which I should have used the cupcake to make a peak)! I bought the Mountain Rescue Diego set and some 88 cent animals! The cake is four 6in rounds on bottom, 10in round then two 6 inch rounds. The top 6 inch has a triangle cut out of the side! (Don’t forget the cupcake like I did)!

I couldn’t find the pillars for the top tier. So I improvised with a “fish” bowl found in the craft section at Wall-mart! The top is on a fondant covered cake separator that we had to trim a little off the bottom with things to stabilize it…but in retrospect I would have covered them with green fondant.

The blue is another separator covered with fondant and my husband made those fondant goldfish! Then the bowl held a real goldfish!!! The top is dark chocolate. The middle is fudge marble and the bottom is classic white! I used some cocoa baking powder and a touch of brown Wilton’s coloring.

For the green I mixed leaf and Kelly green Wilton colors. The blue was just Wilton’s royal blue! And we put the candle on last minute! The little boy in my daughter’s preschool class wanted Diego and the mother couldn’t find anything at the grocery bakeries. And several kids in the class have special diet needs. So I am now the new cake lady! This is only the fourth cake I have made and I am learning new things each time! Enjoy making this. It feed about 40 people with the mountains and two bottom ones left! Even the adults went for seconds! Happy Baking!

Jungle and Safari Cake

This safari cake I made for my grandson. I used butter cream icing. I bought safari animals to sit around on it and palm trees. I put a small pond on the bottom cake which is the largest cake .I used blue piping gel for the lake. I also put sand around the lake as well as sand on the other cakes.

I used brown sugar for the sand. I used 18 floral wires to hang from one tree to another tree on a different cake. I took some green thread and hand sewed two monkeys hanging from the tree vines.

I really enjoyed making this cake. Every one at my grandson’s birthday party loved it.

Jungle and Safari Cake

I used a couple of ideas I had seen online for a safari cake but also added a bit of my own. The flowers and the animals on the top are made from white fondant that I dyed with food coloring gel according to which color I wanted.

The animals on the sides are just miniature frosted sugar cookies. The cake is frosted with dyed butter cream frosting and I used a grass tip for the outline on the layers. Entire cake was edible except for the candles and the balloons!

Sweetly Tattered

Safari cake ideas.

' src=

If you’re looking for a unique and exciting cake design, a safari-themed cake is an excellent choice. With endless possibilities for decoration and design, you can easily make a cake that is both elegant and fun. In this article, we will explore a wide range of safari cake ideas to help get you started on your next project.

How to make a simple and elegant safari cake

If you are in search of an easy-to-create safari cake design, a simple and elegant cake is an excellent choice. A natural-colored, buttercream-covered cake topped with fondant safari animals is the perfect choice for a subtle but stunning safari cake.

For a unique twist, consider using a marbled fondant technique to create an animal-print effect in the fondant covering. This technique can be used for any cake size and shape.

When it comes to choosing the safari animals to top your cake, consider using a mix of different animals to create a diverse and interesting display. You can use fondant or gum paste to create the animals, and there are many tutorials available online to help you create them.

Another option to add some extra flair to your safari cake is to incorporate edible flowers or foliage into the design. This can be done by using fresh or dried flowers, or by creating them out of fondant or gum paste. Just be sure to research which flowers are safe to use on cakes before adding them to your design.

Safari cake ideas for kids’ birthdays

When it comes to kids’ birthdays, a safari-themed cake is sure to be a hit. Imagine a chocolate cake with green buttercream grass, fondant jungle animals, and a fondant tree. Kids will love the playful design and bright colors.

If you’re feeling ambitious, try adding a waterfall and a pond using blue gel or fondant to complete the jungle scene. This will bring the cake to life and make it look like it came straight out of the wild.

Another fun idea for a safari cake is to create a tiered cake with each tier representing a different part of the jungle. The bottom tier can be decorated with fondant vines and leaves, while the middle tier can feature fondant animals like lions, tigers, and zebras. The top tier can be decorated with a fondant sun and clouds to represent the sky above the jungle.

If you want to make the cake even more interactive, consider adding edible binoculars made from chocolate and fondant. These can be placed on top of the cake or on the sides for a fun and playful touch that kids will love.

How to create a stunning animal print cake

Animal prints are a staple of safari design and make for an eye-catching cake design. You can go for a zebra pattern in black and white or a leopard print in brown and black.

You can create the print pattern using a variety of techniques, such as painting, airbrushing, or even piping buttercream. A fondant or gum paste animal topper can complete the look, making for a cake that is both stylish and wild.

When creating an animal print cake, it’s important to choose the right colors. For example, a zebra print cake can be made more interesting by using shades of gray instead of just black and white. Similarly, a leopard print cake can be made more vibrant by adding pops of orange or yellow.

If you want to take your animal print cake to the next level, consider adding some texture. You can use edible glitter or sanding sugar to create a shimmering effect, or use a textured rolling pin to imprint a pattern onto the fondant or buttercream.

Tips for decorating a safari-themed cake

Decorating a safari-themed cake is all about being creative and having fun. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

  • Use natural colors like greens, browns, and shades of yellow to give your cake a wild feel.
  • Add flowers and foliage made from fondant or gum paste to give your cake a jungle-like appearance
  • Use edible glitter and sprinkles to add some sparkle and shine to your cake.
  • Craft toppers featuring your favorite safari animals or trees to add personality to your cake design.

Another great way to add some excitement to your safari-themed cake is to incorporate different textures. You can use textured fondant or create patterns on your cake using a decorating comb or spatula. You can also add some dimension to your cake by using cut-out fondant shapes to create a 3D effect. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different techniques and designs to make your safari-themed cake truly unique!

Creative jungle-inspired cake designs

There is no shortage of inspiration when it comes to jungle-inspired cake designs. From a half-covered cake with fondant vines and leaves to a fully decked-out cake complete with animatronic jungle animals, there are endless possibilities for creating a unique and charming cake.

You can go for a rustic jungle look or opt for a more polished animal print style. Don’t be afraid to mix and match techniques to make a design that is all your own.

When it comes to flavors, there are also many options to choose from. You can go for a classic chocolate or vanilla cake, or try something more exotic like a coconut or mango flavored cake. Consider incorporating tropical fruits like pineapple or passionfruit into the cake or frosting for an added burst of flavor.

Ideas for incorporating edible animals into your safari cake

If the idea of a cake adorned with lifelike jungle animals excites you, there are plenty of options for incorporating edible animals in your cake design. From fondant elephants, tigers, and monkeys to gum paste or marzipan lions and giraffes, the sky is the limit when it comes to creativity.

If you want an eye-catching centerpiece for your cake, consider making a towering giraffe in fondant or gum paste. The effect can be stunning and add some height to your cake.

Another fun idea is to create a scene on your cake with multiple edible animals. You could have a fondant lion lounging under a gum paste tree while a herd of marzipan elephants graze nearby. This can add a playful and whimsical touch to your cake.

If you want to add some texture to your cake, consider using chocolate shavings or crushed cookies to create a dirt or sand effect. This can be the perfect backdrop for your edible animals and really bring your safari theme to life.

DIY safari cake toppers made from fondant or gum paste

If you’re looking to make a safari-themed cake but don’t have access to pre-made toppers, you can easily make your own using fondant or gum paste. You can make fondant animals by molding the fondant into the desired shape and then painting on details like spots or stripes.

Gum paste is an excellent option if you need a topper that is sturdy enough to stand up. It can be molded, shaped, and sculpted into any shape you like. You can even mix gum paste with fondant to create a pliable, easy-to-work-with material.

When making fondant animals, it’s important to work quickly and keep the fondant covered to prevent it from drying out. You can also add texture to your animals by using tools like toothpicks or small brushes to create fur or scales. Additionally, you can use food coloring to create a variety of colors for your animals, making them more realistic and eye-catching.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also try making other safari-themed toppers like trees, rocks, or even a safari jeep. These can be made using a combination of fondant and gum paste, and can add a fun and unique touch to your cake. Just remember to allow enough time for your toppers to dry and harden before placing them on your cake.

You can opt for vegan cakes made with almond milk or gluten-free cakes made with rice flour. Vegan fondant made with coconut cream and gluten-free gum paste made with potato starch is also available in many shops.

Perfect color combinations for a vibrant, eye-catching safari cake

Colors are an essential aspect of safari cake design. The right choice of color combinations will give your cake a vibrant, eye-catching appeal that will make it stand out.

Bright oranges, yellows, and greens are typical choices for a safari-themed cake. If you want a more subtle effect, try using natural-toned browns, greens, and off-white. Gold, silver, or copper metallic accents can also elevate the design and add a luxurious touch.

How to use edible gold leaf to add luxury to your safari cake design

If you want to add a touch of luxury to your safari cake, consider using edible gold leaf. Edible gold leaf can be applied to fondant, gum paste, or buttercream to create a radiant, shimmering effect on the cake design.

Gold leaf can be used to create borders, stripes, or even highlights on a cake’s surface. It pairs well with natural colors and animal prints to create a luxurious, high-end look.

Tips for transporting your safari cake without damaging the decorations

Transporting a decorated cake can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to a safari-themed cake. Here are a few tips to help ensure that your cake arrives at its destination looking as pristine as when you created it:

  • Use a sturdy cake box or container that is large enough to accommodate the cake and any toppers(like the animal figure) securely.
  • Place non-slip matting underneath the cake to prevent it from sliding around during transportation.
  • Keep your cake cool, and use cold gel packs if necessary to keep it from melting or becoming too soft.
  • Drive slowly and carefully, avoiding any sudden movements or sharp turns that could cause the cake to shift or topple over.
  • Once you arrive at your destination, carefully and slowly remove the cake from the container to prevent any damage to the decorations.

How to make a mini-safari dessert table with matching cupcakes and cookies

If you’re planning a safari-themed event, a mini dessert table is a lovely addition. You can use animal-shaped cookies and cupcakes with animal print liners to create a cohesive look.

A gingham tablecloth and greenery garlands paired with bamboo plates and cups will complete the safari theme. You can mix and match the designs of the cupcakes and cookies to create an even more exciting display. The dessert table can also include a show-stopping safari cake that brings everything together. A small decorated cake is an excellent choice for a mini-dessert table.

With these safari cake ideas, you can create a cake design that turns heads for all the right reasons. Whether you prefer a simple, elegant cake or an elaborate 3D creation, a safari-themed cake is sure to make a statement. Get creative with your design and enjoy the process of bringing your safari cake to life.
