A Timeshare Owner’s Honest Guide to an RCI Membership + 21 Answers to FAQs

rci membership

If you’re looking for more information on RCI, you’ve come to the right place. As a happy timeshare owner of 16 years,  this article is the real talk on what RCI is, how it works, and how to make the most of it to score epic vacations across the globe.  This article will candidly answer the most commonly asked questions that I’ve seen asked over the years in my timeshare owners’ groups.

Is wrapping your brain around it complicated? Yes! Is it worth it? Absolutely, 100% yes! I believe that an RCI membership is one of the key ingredients to making the most out of your timeshare ownership.

Do You Feel Like You’re Doing RCI  Wrong?

Have you already searched for an RCI exchange vacation and are slightly panicking because you don’t see what you are looking for vs. what you saw in the RCI Resort Directory? For example, say you want to go to Yellowstone in August for a family vacation. You go to the RCI homepage and type in Yellowstone, and you can’t even check for a  month because it says no inventory.

You feel your blood starting to boil, think you’ve made a wrong decision and threw money down the toilet. Breathe, and then keep on reading! I’ll share what I’ve learned about the RCI over the years and how the savvy timeshare owners are “hacking” their timeshare ownership with RCI.

Wait, This is a Timeshare Thing?

Yes! To have an RCI Membership, you must own a timeshare. If you’ve found yourself in this article and don’t own a timeshare, start with my article What Is a Timeshare? A Happy Owner Explains All You Want to Know.

1. What is RCI Exactly?

RCI (Resorts Condominiums International) is the largest timeshare exchange company in the world. It is owned by Wyndham Destinations, part of the Travel & Leisure conglomerate of vacation brands and companies. (Yes, the magazine brand!)

Their full name is a nod to the fact that timeshares bring the best of condos and resorts together in a type of vacation accommodation that I personally feel can’t be beaten. It’s like an Airbnb apartment rental inside a resort.  Many happy timeshare owners out there think that we are traveling the world in upscale condo resorts for Motel 6 prices.

If you’re brand new to the concept of timeshare exchange companies, they essentially facilitate resort trades for timeshare owners but at a large scale. RCI, for example, makes these trades happen for their 3 million+ members.  This middleman, if you will, allows me to take a week at my Catskills NY timeshare and swap it for a week’s vacation at 4,200 resorts in their network across the United States and 110 countries.

Pretty cool, right?

2. Who Can Get An RCI Membership?

So many people ask if you can get an RCI membership without owning a timeshare. And the answer is no. As part of the sign-up process, you’ll be asked to provide the name of the resort you own a timeshare with or the vacation club you’re a member of. Before your account is set up, your home resort will confirm your ownership.

Also, not all timeshare ownerships qualify for an RCI membership. There is a bit of church and state in the timeshare industry, and a basic understanding of it is critical if you have certain exchanges in mind.

So if you’re hoping to use RCI to trade into the beloved Marriot Maui Ocean Club, that’s not possible. You see, Marriott International owns the second largest timeshare exchange company in the world Interval International . So Marriott Timeshares will never be found in RCI, as those owners aren’t eligible for an RCI membership.

While some timeshare resorts have dual affiliations, many timeshare resorts only let you deposit your timeshare into one or the other. Our Vail Resorts timeshare is only affiliated with RCI, for example. Unfortunately, that means I don’t have a timeshare exchange company choice and must use RCI.

Am I slightly bothered that I’ll never exchange into Marriott’s or Westin’s? Somedays, I am. But then I look at my very long bucket list of RCI-affiliated resorts and remember all the fantastic vacations I can have at Divi Aruba, Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki, Massanutten Resort, and an almost endless list of amazing Orlando Resorts.

3. What Membership Types Are there?

When talking to your home resort about your timeshare exchange company affiliation, ask them if you’d be an RCI Weeks Member or an RCI Points member. While these two RCI Memberships are similar, some differences exist, and some owners are only eligible for one type of membership. For example, we are RCI Weeks members and didn’t have a choice in the matter.

4. How are RCI Points and RCI Weeks Programs Different?

RCI was a straight-up week or week exchange back in the day. Meaning I would give up a week and get a week at another resort. But people who had a week at premium resorts or during peak travel didn’t feel that it was a fair system. Conversely, people who had a “cheaper to own” week were able to score weeks at upscale resorts. They were able to “trade up,” so to say. If this type of system interests you, Interval International still operates this way.

RCI’s exchange approach changed when they assigned number values to everyone’s weeks based on how in-demand your resort week is, how big your unit is, and how far in advance you deposit your week into the system. So, for example, it makes sense that a summer week at Cape Cod would be worth more trading currency than, say, a December week at Cape Cod due to travel demand.

These “points” are the currency within the RCI system that you can use to secure reservations at resorts.  And what that currency looks very different based on if you’re in the RCI Weeks or RCI Points program.

RCI Weeks Trading Currency

When you deposit a week into the RCI Weeks program, your get Trading Power Units, which you’ll see people call TPUs. It will be a number under 60.

  • For example, our 2 bedroom ski-in/ski-out condo receives 23 TPUs when I deposit it at least 9 months out from the check-in date.
  • Some smaller units or non-peak travel time weeks will get fewer TPUs.
  •  If you want to stay in a super premium resort, you’ll need to combine weeks, like we did when we stayed at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort in Orlando over Spring Break (for 45 TPUs).
  • However, RCI has “sales” where they decrease the amount of TPUs needed, and you can score weeks in Orlando at resorts with thousands of rooms (Like Vacation Village Parkway 1 Bedroom for 3 TPUs.)
  • So it’s entirely possible to take your one week deposited into the RCI system and turn it into 2,3,4,5, or more weeks of vacation! Check out my article 4 Ways to Hack Your Timeshare to learn more.

RCI Points Trading Currency

The same concepts apply, but if you’re an RCI points member, the trading currency you will receive is called points, and the number is much more significant, like 12,000 or 45,000 points or more. You can easily see how this is confusing as the numbers are so different from each other, but alas, this is the way it is.

Two Other Differences Between  The Weeks and Points Programs

  • Resort Choices –  There are “reports” in the owner’s groups that a small handful of resorts only seem to be available for points owners to trade into. As weeks owners, I don’t feel deprived and haven’t been bummed out by the resorts available to me in my RCI Membership.
  • Length of Stay –  While there is a handful of 3, 4, or 5-night stays in the RCI Weeks program, there are significantly more short stays available for exchange in the RCI Points program. If you are the type of traveler who mostly makes long weekend trips, then this is the RCI membership program ideal for you.

5. How Much is an RCI Membership?

A one-year RCI Membership is $109, and multi-year membership discounts range from 10 to 30% depending on how many years you purchase upfront. Many people start with a one-year membership, but I recommend buying a two-year one if your budget allows.

You see, timeshare traveling favors those who plan in advance. And especially if you can only travel during peak times such as Spring Break, Summer Break, and December break, you’ll need to plan those trips one year or more in advance. So when giving an RCI Membership your first turn, spend a little more money so that you can secure the type of vacation exchanges you want and get the whole experience of trading vacations with RCI.

6. What Are The Benefits?

So there are a lot of benefits that RCI lists on their website outside of vacation exchange. However, RCI is a business, and they are trying to upsell their 3.8 million members on other travel products by offering discounts on travel-related services like rental cars, cruises, etc.

But here’s my take. Those offers 99% of the time aren’t the best price. So like all purchases in life, make sure you price compare. You’ll see members regularly ask questions about all-inclusive fees, car rental, and cruise reservations, and it is almost unanimous that Costco’s car rental prices can’t be beaten; a travel agent or the cruise’s website directly is the best place to book, and hotel prices should be researched thoroughly on an aggregator site like Kayak.com.

Have there been some reports of unbeatable deals? Yes, but they are definitely the exception and not the rule.

7. Is Platinum Worth It?

This is one of the most commonly asked questions in timeshare groups. And the answer given by veteran timeshare owners and travelers is that it depends. It depends on how much you use RCI and what type of traveler you are.

But if you want to have VIP access to the best resorts in the RCI system, then it’s well worth the extra cost. Remember you’re competing with the other 3 million members of RCI for exchanges. Personally, getting a vacation that’s worth 5K is well worth the extra $89, don’t you think?!?

I think it is well worth the cost if you can swing the extra $89 a year. For example, if you use it to restore the full deposit power of a late deposit only once, you’ve practically covered the cost by using one benefit by “buying” yourself more points for a whole other week’s vacation.

RCI Platinum Benefits:

  • 10% Discount on Extra Vacations and Last Call Bookings
  • 10% savings on Combined Deposit Fee
  • 25% off Guest Certificates
  • Unlimited Free Ongoing Searches
  • 24-hour Exchange Holds To Secure a Room and think about it
  • Access to Exchanges and Extra Vacations before “base” members
  • Customer Service Line just for Platinum Members
  • Unit upgrades when available
  • Deposit your week 181 and 270 days and receive the full value as if you deposited it at the 9-month mark.

8. What Resorts Are There?

Well, it’s pretty hard to summarize RCI’s network of 4300 resorts across the world, but I’ll give it a try! You’ll find a wide range of resorts in the RCI system. From Gold Crown resorts ( their highest distinction) to large global chains like Hilton, Wyndham, regional brands like Worldmark and Divi, to independently owned and beloved hotels.

And since I’m here to give you the honest truth, a very small percentage of the resorts in the RCI system are older, run-down, and not well maintained. That’s why it is crucial to research the resort on TripAdvisor before you book. No system is perfect, and you must take 5 minutes to do your own due diligence.

Timeshare Resorts Around The World: Cities Vs. Non-Cities

The other dynamic at play is that timeshares historically are built outside of cities. Historically people lived in cities and wanted to “escape” them on vacation, so resorts were built outside cities.  On a global basis, there are actually very few timeshares in cities. While that is starting to change in the industry, the total number of timeshares in European cities is low vs. outside of cities, for example.

And since there aren’t that many of them, they are very much in demand. Those timeshare owners probably use it themselves or rent it out for top dollar. There are starting to be more timeshares in cities (Nashville, Charleston, New Orleans, New York City, etc.) in the U.S., but most of them are in the mountains or on beaches.

That being said, there are some fantastic gems in the RCI network of affiliated hotels. For example, we exchanged into the Bougainvillas Barbados resort in 2021 for my birthday with our RCI Membership. Even the locals love this family-owned and operated resort located next to Sandals. And for Christmas break 2021, we exchanged into the amazing Belair Beach Hotel in St. Maarten where all the spacious 2 bedroom units are oceanfront.

9. What is the General Concept of How It Works?

So, say you’re looking to exchange a week at your resort for a timeshare family vacation in Hawaii. For one to be in RCI’s system, another owner would have to decide not to use their Hawaii timeshare week, not let family/friends use it, not rent it out, and put their week specifically into RCI ( vs. another timeshare exchange company).

You can see how supply and demand definitely play into the RCI Exchange dynamics. So don’t fret about getting the RCI Resorts you want; it just takes some planning!

That being said, the supply and demand dynamics can also aid in your planning! For example, towns with tons of timeshare resorts like Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, the Smoky Mountains National Park, and Branson are regularly available in the system.

10. Can I Use It to Book Vacations for Friends and Family?

Yes, you can! If you will not be traveling along with them and want to send them on a timeshare vacation, you can book a reservation with your RCI membership and then add their name to it once you purchase a Guest Certificate for $109.

If you want to treat a family member or perhaps send someone on a memorable getaway like a birthday trip or even a honeymoon, that is possible with an RCI membership.

11. Can I Sell Exchanges to People?

No, you can not sell your exchanges to people. You can rent your owned week out, but not your RCI exchanges. It is against the Terms and Conditions that you agreed to when signing up for your RCI membership. If RCI catches you selling trades, they will cancel the reservation and potentially cancel your RCI membership. So if you’re thinking of selling, don’t do it. Image if your renter shows up at the resort and the reservation was canceled. That’s a huge nightmare that is not worth it.

However, if you book a vacation for friends and family and they thank you with you an Amazon or Grocery Store gift card, well, isn’t that super nice of them!

12. What’s an Ongoing Search, and Should I Get One?

Yes. The answer is yes! I know I haven’t explained it yet, but the answer is yes. If you had a choice between getting the best resorts in RCI or the leftovers, which would you choose?

RCI explains an Ongoing Search as: “When you start an Ongoing Search, you get prioritized access to member deposited inventory, giving you a better chance of finding the vacation you want.”

Why Is Having an Ongoing Search So Important?

So imagine only 10 Hawaii July Weeks are deposited in RCI  a year. But 50 people are looking for weeks at these RCI Resorts. The people who get these timeshare vacations are ALWAYS the first ten people in the line. If you are in the back of the line or haven’t put yourself in the line at all, you’re not going to get this RCI exchange. You will get the Hawaii resorts that everyone else passed on.

This is how I secured two of the best resorts in Hawaii during prime August vacation season. By putting my name on the request list 18 months in advance.

You may start to get a sense why, when you search for certain RCI resorts in the inventory, it’s not there. Some of the most in-demand RCI properties are taken by members’ ongoing searches and therefore aren’t ever put in search inventory for others to see and reserve that way.

Let me repeat that again  – The resort or week you may be looking for may NEVER get put into the search inventory as they are all being taken by savvy members who put in an Ongoing Search.

Think of it as going to a nightclub. There are always two lines. One for people who wait forever, may or may not get in and get stuck with whatever they tell you once you reach the front of the line. Then there is the VIP line, of course, where you want to be. The Ongoing Search is the “VIP” line.

Just to be clear – You don’t need to be an RCI Platinum Member to make an ongoing search request; you just have to pay your exchange fee upfront. If you don’t get your request, the fee will be returned.    To read more about the ins and of Ongoing Searches, like how to get a match for the resort you want successfully, read my full article on the topic Scoring the RCI Properties You Wa nt

13. How Does Exchanging to All-Inclusive Resorts Work?

When exchanging into an All-inclusive resort with your RCI Membership, you’ll have to use some trading currency, pay the exchange fee, and pay the per person all-inclusive fees directly to the resort. Those extra costs can be found in the Fees tab when looking at all-inclusive resorts in the RCI system.

While there have been some owners’ reports of snagging deals, once you add up all these costs, it’s most likely going to be more cost-effective to book an all-inclusive resort directly from the hotel, at Costco Travel, or with a travel agent.

Make sure to do the cost comparisons before booking, not after!

14. What’s the difference between RCI Extra Vacation Getaways and RCI Last Call?

rci timeshare massanutten

These are two programs included with an RCI membership that doesn’t require you to use any of your trading power points. These are cash-only options for booking resorts. What differentiates them from each other is the price and included resorts.

The RCI Last Program offers week-long stays at RCI properties 45 days out. Based on the size of the unit, the prices range from $269 to $399. This is a great place to score epic vacation deals, but don’t expect to get the most in-demand destinations (Key West) or 3-bedroom units.

You will find rooms at huge resorts, like Vacation Village Parkway in Orlando or Massanutten Resort neighboring Shenandoah National Park, which has thousands of rooms. Or you’ll discover shoulder-season or off-season locations like the mountains in the summer. If you’re open to the type of vacation you’re willing to take, it is a great way to secure extra weeks of vacation for very little money.

The RCI Extra Vacation Getaways are similar, but you can book them much further out and will include some resorts that you won’t find in the last-minute deals.  However, you’ll have to pay more to book something further in advance. Again, they can be pricey, so make sure you price compare paying the cash RCI price vs. a timeshare rental on Go-Koala.com, Redweek.com or TUG, or other travel booking sites.

15. What’s the Best Timeshare to Buy for the Sole Purpose of RCI Exchanges?

rci membership massanutten

I say a lot, “ Buying a timeshare is not the type of real estate decision to make on a whim, three margaritas deep, while on vacation.” Can your budget –and your emergency fund —comfortably cover all the costs every year? Even during job loss, retirement, or a pandemic?

These are really important, self-reflective questions to ask yourself before buying a timeshare. Of course, there is no reason to rush buying a timeshare, as it is a buyer’s market.  But if you’ve already done this necessary work and are looking to make the savviest purchase out there, I’ve got you.

You can save 75 to 99% of the purchase price by buying in the resale market. Timeshare Users Group (TUG) hits it right on the head when they say, “Why would anyone buy from a resort if they could get the exact same “used condo” week, at the exact same resort property, for pennies on the dollar from an existing owner?”

While there are perks offered by the resorts for direct-purchased contracts, if you’re not interested in those specific perks, than the large difference in price wouldn’t be worth it for you.

There are folklores out there on the best timeshare purchase for value, but I’ve never seen a comparative analysis done just for RCI. One legend is that Grandview, a Vacation Village Resort in Las Vegas, is THE timeshare that gives you the most value for the money. So I did an analysis myself and answered once and for all, Is the Grandview Resort the Granddaddy of Timeshare Value?

Read my article here to find the answer and my system on how to analyze timeshare purchases for value and trading power with an RCI membership.

16. How Does a Membership Help Timeshare Owners with Last-Minute Change of Plans

Pandemic traveling showed us that having flexibility and backup plans are critical when planning vacations. Well, what’s the equivalent of that for timeshare owners? I believe that an exchange company membership is a form of travel insurance for timeshare owners to protect the money they’d pre-paid for their yearly vacations. Why?

Because RCI allows you to deposit your week as late as the day before your check-in date and still receive a portion of your trading power currency. Deposits 15 days or more before check-in qualify for their Deposit Restore program. For a $69 fee, you get 100% of the trading power for your week as if you deposited it nine+ months ago.

It is an excellent option for owners with high-value weeks, as restoring your full trading power can translate into a trip during peak travel or multiple weeks of vacation in the future.

17. What is the RCI Charter Program?

This was a question I recently got from a reader and it stumped me! So I went right to source and asked an RCI rep on their chat feature– my favorite way to interact RCI!

It turns out this is the name of the new Cruise Booking program with RCI.

RCI explained it as “That is a new cruise option for members to use Trading Power or points towards. Members may now use 7 Trading Power or 20,000 Points towards an Exchange for a Cruise on select cruise lines (Norwegian Cruise Lines and Princess Cruises) and get up to $1200 in additional RCI savings when booking a cruise!

So that leads to another very common question about RCI and Cruises!

18. Should I use my Timeshare to Book a Cruise with RCI?

The answer is no! Why? Because you’ll use your trading power and you’ll pay the same or even more money than booking the cruise the “usual” way. That’s right, if you price compare the RCI prices with the cruise lines direct, Costco, a travel agent or other booking sites you’ll find that you’re not saving any money by using your RCI membership points to book a cruise this way.

The cruise booking company is actually a separate entity from RCI and there has been reports of people being caught up in extreme red tape.

To be blunt, you’ll be wasting your trading power or RCI points and most likely spending more money!

Just like the all-inclusive resorts 99% of the time, it is not a good use of RCI. The best use of an RCI membership and your trading current points is to book “regular” resorts. That is where the real value is in timesharing and timeshare exchanging.

19. What are the Levels of RCI Resorts?

Another recent question in my email was does owning at a certain resort mean you have wider access to the best resorts in RCI? So this question in part is because this is how Interval International works , but RCI does not work like this at all.

With an RCI Membership, you see all the same resorts whether you own the most expensive timeshare or the least expensive one. If you have the TPUs or points, you can book that exchange no matter what you own.

With Interval, if you own a lower-tiered timeshare, you won’t see the most high-end exchanges, like Disney Vacation Club resorts for example. And if you own a top tier timeshare, you won’t see the value exchanges either. If you want to book things outside of this standard “mold” you have to call into the II hotline.

But getting back to RCI, there are three, and only three, tiers of resorts. If a salesperson is telling you that there is a list of RCI Platinum resorts, they are wrong.

According to RCI’s website , there are:

  • RCI Gold Crown Resorts – The highest of the three RCI Award Designations, these resorts regularly met or exceeded standards in unit housekeeping and maintenance, hospitality, and an evaluation of resort facilities, amenities and services.
  • RCI Silver Crown Resort – Resorts that have achieved excellence in these areas
  • RCI Hospitality Level:  Resorts consistently high ratings in the check-in/check-out and hospitality categories

What seems to be not spoken about much anymore is a collection of resorts that RCI branded at one time or another The Registry Collection. According to an RCI chat representative this program “is a credits based exchange program for luxury fractional residences. Participation in this program requires ownership at a Registry Collection affiliated residence.” This includes the Four Seasons timeshare vacation ownership and the penthouse units at The Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.

A list of those resorts can be found at this program’s website, The Registry Collection .

What I did not know that I learned from this online chat with the RCI rep, was that you can actually do an RCI exchange search just for these resorts by:

  • Click on the “Exchange Search” tab
  • Click on the circle in front of the “Search The Registry Collection” option
  • Using the filters on the left of the screen:
  • Select the “Region” of interest
  • Select the Check-in Date Range
  • Click on the “Available Units” options to view unit sizes and the points required for the exchange

I tried to do this type of search, but because I don’t own this particular type of timeshare, I could not search the inventory this way. But from browsing around the site, it has the top tier rooms like the Signature Collection units at River Island within Holiday Inn Club Vacations Orange Lake Resort or Wyndham Bonnet Creek which is a rare find in the RCI inventory without putting in an Ongoing Search.

20. Can I use RCI Points to Buy a Plane Ticket?

This question recently popped up in one of the RCI Members Facebook groups I am in. Based on the responses, it seems  like this is a common question especially among long-time members.  See, this is something that you used to be able to do with your deposited weeks.

But, this is not something that you can do anymore! But don’t feel too bad, because the conversion and value you got for your points were really poor anyway.

21. Do They Still Make the Physical Book of The Resorts?

Another question from a reader! The answer surprised me, because it turns out that RCI does still make physical resort directories. If you’d like one, you need to request it. My preferred method of communication with RCI is the chat feature as the wait times are short, and you can always save a copy of your conversation on your computer afterwards.

I tested this out, and yes you can request a book be mailed to you by chatting with an RCI representative.

Over the years, we get questions about vacation clubs&#8212some from people who just wonder what they are, others from people looking for the “best” club. The most recent was simple:

“Are there any civilian vacation clubs like Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC)?”

The short answer is, “Yes; there are lots of vacation clubs, although none quite like AFVC.” We last covered vacation clubs three years ago, so a review and update are in order.

The Basic Vacation Club Idea

Vacation clubs are essentially a variation on the timeshare theme: programs that offer vacation stays in participating accommodations. As with timeshares, you buy into the program for an initial price anywhere from around $5000 to as much as $1 million; once enrolled, you select the resorts where you want to stay and pay for each occupancy. You may also pay extra annual “maintenance” or “membership” fees.

I can see two general distinctions between a vacation club and a conventional timeshare program:

  • With conventional timeshare programs, you generally “own” a base week interval (or multiple one-week intervals) for specific dates at specific resorts. Most timeshares, however, participate in exchange programs, and in those you can usually exchange your base intervals for intervals at other equivalent locations and times within the exchange program.
  • With a vacation club, you may have no base interval location or time. Also, what, where, and how long you vacation depends on how much occupancy you buy. Stay options are not limited to one-week intervals&#8212you can sometimes visit just a night or two.

Some vacation clubs allow you to sell or transfer your membership; as with timeshares, you can sometimes buy one of these club memberships as a resale. With others, however, your interest is not transferrable. Check here here for more information about resale.

Only a few of the very high-end vacation clubs promise to buy back your initial membership “investment,” at full value or at a set partial value. With most midprice and inexpensive programs, you’re either locked in or on your own to recover what you can in a resale market.

Three General Groups

Vacation clubs fall into three general categories, based on sponsorship and management:

  • Major hotel/resort chain: Many of the biggest names in worldwide hotels/resorts operate vacation clubs, including Disney , Four Seasons , Hilton , Hyatt , Marriott , Ritz-Carlton , Starwood , Westin , and Wyndham . With these vacation clubs, your vacation choices are usually limited to locations that belong to the chain.

Players include Bluegree , Diamond/Sunterra , Royal Aloha , Shell Vacations , Vacation Internationale , World Vacations Club , and WorldMark . The AFVC, cited by our reader, focuses on military families (and apparently charges no entry fee or dues). Of course, the two giant timeshare exchange programs, Interval International and RCI , are de facto vacation clubs.

Among the high-end players: Distinctive Holiday Homes Distinctive Holiday Homes , Equity Estates , Everlands , Hideaways Club (Europe), M Private Residences (Canada), Markers Destination Club (focus on golf), Oyster Circle (Europe), Quintess , Solstice , and Ultimate Escapes . Destination Club Forums , Halogen Guides , and Sherpa Report maintain excellent databases and bulletin boards for detailed information about these high-end programs.

Pros and Cons

The advantages and disadvantages of vacation clubs pretty much follow those for timeshares, generally:

Pros: Accommodations are usually larger than individual hotel/resort accommodations, with kitchen facilities; many are in excellent locations; annual occupancy costs can be less than for comparable hotel/resort accommodations.

Cons: Except at the very high end, you generally can’t recover the initial buy-in price; you may be locked into certain types of location; accommodations when and where you want them may be hard to find; operators can increase fees without recourse; vacation clubs have been prone to some of the same high-pressure sales tactics as timeshares. Check Complaints Board , My 3 Cents , The Owners’ Advocate , Ripoff Report , and Squeaky Wheel for representative complaints about vacation clubs.

As with timeshares, generally, lots of vacation club participants&#8212probably a majority&#8212are happy with their programs and pleased with the results. Unfortunately, even some of the biggest names seem to be guilty of high-pressure sales techniques and questionable promises. Don’t let this deter you if you like the idea, but even more than in other parts of the travel marketplace, buyer beware!

How RCI scams its members with websites such as Trip Beat - sham fraud ripoff

All of you who pay thousands to belong to a club, will have a heart attack when you find out what RCI is doing disguised as EVR (Endless Vacation Resorts) which then further disguises itself as hundreds of sites out there.

Simply go to Google and type in "Trip Beat"

You will see TripBeat AKA EVR offering RCI inventory (Slightly higher pricing than the RCI website), with NO SUBSCRIPTION FEE, completely open to the public.

You can buy their PREMIER Access for $83/year and get even further discounts.

( How many thousands did you pay????? )

Its not fair to the 3.5 Million RCI members who were promised an "exclusive" program for Timeshare owners only. Then RCI simply created white labeled websites like TripBeat and give similar services for FREE.

I'll tell you why they do it. RCI is not very efficient at renting all its weeks, so it must look for other sources to make a few extra bucks. However this is not fair to you and me who paid thousands for this exclusivity which now you know is NOT exclusive at all.

Here is another program from RCI you need to be weary of. Its called RCI Club365.

Released in 2017, Club365 is a hoax to get you into the RCI program. Just ONE BIG DRAWBACK!!! the supposedly exclusive membership you will buy for $2000, is simply a collection of websites links that is available to the public.

Once you login to Club365, you have benefits such as "Preferred Stays" and "Preferred Getaways". These "benefits" are simply links to another website that is open to the general public. You dont need to be a member, you dont need to pay anything.... its free to the general public. Its called EVR (Endless Vacation Rentals). You get similar inventory to RCI's "Last Call" and "Extra Vacations" for prices starting around $299.

I have 2 questions:

1. Why would anyone buy this RCI Club365 scam?

2. Why is RCI sharing its "exclusive inventory" to websites such as EVR that are free and open to the public?

Im guessing my $28k timeshare didnt buy me exclusivity with RCI. It simply gives them the opportunity to sell my inventory BEHIND my back, charge me all kinds of exchange fees, renewal fees, while they profit of me.

How is it possible that a person from the general public can access EVR and get similar pricing to you, the timeshare owner?

EVR stands for Endless Vacation Rentals. A portal that RCI uses to sell your timeshare inventory behind your back.

Did you know the EVR website is free for all users? Did you know you can get ridiculous low pricing starting at $299, and sometimes even cheaper?

Believe me, I AM NOT PROMOTING EVR. I am actually angry that I purchased a timeshare with a supposedly exclusive access to RCI only for timeshare owners. It turns out, RCI makes a few extra bucks selling on the side with websites such as EVR.

There are no exchange fees, no annual fees, no booking fees, just the cost of the week of $299+, and taxes. Yes, thats $299 for the week, not per night.

In my opinion, either RCI needs to compensate us, or they need to shut down all these unethical websites. I say websites in plural because EVR is not their only outlet. They private brand under many names.

johnathans11 wrote: RCI is not very efficient at renting all its weeks, so it must look for other sources to make a few extra bucks. However this is not fair to you and me who paid thousands for this exclusivity which now you know is NOT exclusive at all.

I have no use whatsoever for RCI. I haven't been a RCI member for many years now and I certainly will never join RCI again.

That being very clearly stated, let's not forget that RCI doesn't actually "own" any weeks anywhere. Any and every week that RCI advertises, whether directly to their RCI membership or via alternative publicly available avenues, are either weeks previously (and voluntarily) deposited by RCI members or weeks made available to RCI by developers as "excess inventory". The offerings are no better or worse and are essentially the same, regardless of where found advertised. Like many profit seeking (and greedy) businesses, RCI will do whatever it takes to make a buck --- RCI members be damned.

While I certainly have no use for RCI, the fact remains that RCI is not to "blame" for people voluntarily choosing to grossly overpay developers (and / or so-called "vacation clubs") for timeshare. Even if their choice to buy in was based upon the many assorted lies, exaggerations and misrepresentations of deceitful sales weasels regarding the supply and ease (and inventory quality) of "exchanging", those lying sales weasels have NO actual affiliation whatsoever with RCI. Keep in mind too that there are lots of people who paid REASONABLE prices (in the resale market) for their timeshares, having never been gouged by exorbitant developer pricing. Some of those folks, if / when they later choose to use RCI, seem to often be satisfied with their experience (although steadily decreasing availability of quality exchange inventory is a consistent complaint in recent years). Availability of quality inventory from the other third party avenues you mention is certainly no better; the only real difference is that no RCI membership is required.

There is certainly no "exclusivity" associated with RCI membership. If you are dissatisfied with RCI policies, practices, costs and available inventory, I respectfully suggest doing what I and many others have done and continue to do --- vote with your feet and just bid RCI a fond farewell. It seems to me that your real "beef" is (...or should be) with having grossly overpaid a developer for your timeshare in the first place and then later discovering to your obvious chagrin that the sales weasel exaggerations about the joys and availability of "exchanging" were just fairy tales. RCI, for better or worse (...mostly worse) simply "is what it is".

Get out of your timeshare and use these sites instead.. I get weekly rentals for LESS than your maintenance fees. I've been using these sites for more than 15 years and extremely happy.

Hi, what sites do you recommend finding great deals on? Thank you!

bethg135 wrote: Hi, what sites do you recommend finding great deals on?

Great deals on what? Concert tickets? Cars? Restaurants? Tablet computers?

Hi there. Yes can you share where you can get these great deals on the vacation rentals? I just sat through a long and convincing sales pitch for the RCI Club365. the Cost is 8k and they will try to sell my timeshare for me.

The website https://www.theclub365.com/ has weeks for sale for great prices. My home resort was blacked out and it's called The Reef in Marathon FL. I love my resort but not the week. (week 2). I'm curious why there were no weeks for sale since there were units empty when we were there 6 weeks ago. The club365 I would like if I could go to my resort during non middle of winter weeks. There were wonderful weeks available for say from $300 to $3000 a week on the website. I have a problem paying 8k dollars for access to the website.

They wont try to sell all timeshares, only the ones where maintenance fees are still reasonable. Hotels and motels are included in the website as well.

I must add I only paid $10 for my timeshare and the maintenance fee was $790 for this year. https://reefatmarathon.com/

did you buy the club365?

i just sat through the pitch as well

Has anyone used the Club 365 to rent out your points for weeks and get reimbursed money? I just listened to their pitch and they say if someone uses my points, I will be compensated $1200 for each week used, up to 8 weeks/ year.

It sounds a little fishy to me. Just make sure that you do not pay this company any upfront fee to rent out your unit or points. It does not matter what this company labels the fee such as listing fee, investors' tax, market analysis fee, points-to-weeks conversion fee, etc. Whatever this company charges you will come out of the proceeds of the rental.

The club 365 does not seem to allow the general public to use it. You need an account.

db380 wrote: The club 365 does not seem to allow the general public to use it. You need an account.

No surprise; the nature of any club is generally that a membership is required to use it, no?

I just sat through about an hrs worth of telephone conversation /sales pitch with Club 365 to rent my RCI and/or Wyndham points for $1200 per 10,000 pts (80,000 pts max annually). Of course they wanted me to pay an upfront member fee of $4995 plus $199 annually to retain the membership but I respectfully declined their pitch as it came off as being just another scam. I am curious to hear if anyone has anything positive to say about this Club 365. Please advise if you in fact have had a good or bad experience as a member. Thank you in advance.

IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card Overview

The IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card is a solid choice if you’re an occasional traveler who wants to earn maximum travel points to help cover the costs of your next IHG stay. This no-annual-fee card offers up to 17X points on bookings and purchases made at participating IHG hotels and resorts. The card also earns 3X points in multiple everyday categories and also has a 2X flat rate for all other general purchases. On top of that, you also get a nice sign-up bonus, automatic silver elite status and a chance to earn a free fourth night stay.

The IHG One Rewards Traveler card holds its own against other no-annual-fee hotel credit cards , but hotel cards that do charge an annual fee are often loaded with features like an automatic free night stay every year on account anniversaries and a higher level of elite status, which can unlock even more benefits. These perks can help offset the cost and may provide greater value for occasional and frequent travelers alike.

Plus, like many hotel cards, IHG points aren’t as versatile and may not hold as much value as the points and miles offered by general-purpose travel rewards cards . Depending on how you travel, the IHG One Rewards Traveler card may not be the best fit.

What are the pros and cons?

Maximize earned points with strong IHG-brand rewards rates, plus boosted rewards for everyday expenses

Fourth-night reward when redeeming IHG points (after paying with points for the first three nights)

Automatic silver elite status gives you a 20 percent increase to the points earned on IHG-related purchases

Over 6,000 destinations to choose from when booking your stay

No intro purchase or balance transfer APR

Points value is very low unless you’re redeeming for IHG stays

Current welcome offer

New cardholders can earn 80,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. The bonus offers solid value considering the IHG One Rewards Traveler charges no annual fee and IHG property reward stays can cost as little as 10,000 points.

The IHG One Rewards Traveler Card gives you plenty of chances to rack up points you can redeem in a number of ways, though your best redemption option will be to cover stays at eligible IHG hotels and resorts. Here’s a closer look at the card’s rewards program:

How you earn

The IHG One Rewards Traveler Card gives you three ways to earn IHG points:

  • 5X points for each dollar spent at IHG hotels and resorts (or up to 15X points with IHG One Rewards membership, adding up to 17X total points with the card’s complimentary Silver Elite status)
  • 3X points on monthly utility bills, gas station purchases, streaming services and restaurant purchases
  • 2X points on all other purchases

Although IHG locations may not be as immediately recognizable under the brand’s umbrella, your card is eligible for rewards at the following branded properties:

  • Atwell Suites
  • Candlewood Suites
  • Crowne Plaza
  • Even Hotels
  • Holiday Inn
  • Holiday Inn Express
  • Holiday Inn Club Vacations
  • Hotel Indigo
  • InterContinental Hotels and Resorts
  • Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants
  • Staybridge Suites
  • Vignette Collection

How to redeem

When it comes to redeeming your IHG points, you have a few options.

First, you can convert your current points balance into a free night’s stay at participating IHG properties. While some hotels come in at 10,000 per night, most require substantially more points (even up to 100,000). According to IHG’s list of its top five reward night destinations , the Holiday Inn Resort Aruba-Beach Resort and Casino comes in at 35,000 points per night, while a stay at the InterContinental New York Times Square is 60,000 points per night, on average. Additionally, cardholders can pay using a combination of points and cash, giving them the flexibility to use as few or as many points as they’d like then making up the difference with cash.

Other redemption options include transferring your IHG rewards to airline partners, which include American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, and United Airlines. Cardholders can also redeem IHG points for purchases such as jewelry, electronics, household items and more from the IHG rewards catalog. Redemptions in the catalog start at 1,000 points for magazine subscriptions and go up from there through a variety of categories and spending thresholds.

Plus, cardholders can redeem for gift cards or use points to offset the costs of flights, car rentals and more. It’s also possible to transfer or gift your points to other cardholders as well as donate to charities. But before you consider any of these redemption options, it’s a good idea to think twice before using your points for anything other than booking hotel stays. The value of your points can drop considerably when redeeming for anything beyond hotel stays. For example, a $25 gift card for Dunkin’ Donuts costs 13,000 points. Even if you earned those points making purchases in the card’s top bonus points category worth 17X points, you’ve spent over $764 for that $25 gift card.

Other cardholder perks

The IHG One Rewards Traveler card comes with a number of additional perks that help it to compete with other hotel cards. Some features, like the complimentary fourth reward night may even help it stand out from the crowd and make it your top choice for a no-annual-fee hotel card.

More points-earning with IHG Rewards Membership

As an IHG One Rewards member, you earn 10X points on each dollar spent at eligible IHG properties. Combined with the 5X points per dollar offered by your Traveler’s card, this gets you at least 17X the points for every IHG stay (counting your Silver Elite status).

While inflated points models like this aren’t new to the hotel card landscape, they’re certainly a requirement on cards that hope to compete with brands like Hilton and Marriott—both of which offer high rewards points to members and cardholders. Unfortunately, points in these programs typically carry a low value and may vary in value based on the location, season and other factors.

Fourth reward night

If you redeem points for a stay of three nights or more at an IHG property, you’ll get a complimentary fourth reward night to add to your visit. Other top hotel brands like Hilton and Marriott offer a fifth night free, which means you have to spend more to earn a free night elsewhere.

IHG’s fourth reward night is especially useful for higher-end properties that have significant per-night points values and can help extend your vacation without breaking the bank.

10,000 bonus points each calendar year

By spending $10,000 within one calendar year, plus an extra purchase at least a day after you’ve reached that threshold, you can earn another 10,000 points. According to the 0.7-cent IHG point value , this can potentially amount to a low-tier IHG property stay or up to $70 of value for big spenders.

Gold Elite status with $20,000 in purchases each year

If you make $20,000 or more worth of purchases in a calendar year, you’ll automatically earn Gold Elite status with IHG. This lets you access extended check-out and priority check-in options, ensures your points never expire and gives you 10 percent bonus earnings on top of your base points. By no means should you aim to spend $20,000 just to fall into this category, but this is a wonderful promotional perk for members who already land in this spending range.

How much are the rewards worth?

If you’re booking a night’s stay at IHG properties, your points redemption value will typically hover around 0.7 cents per point, according to our points valuation. You can improve this conversion rate by taking advantage of special hotel offers or traveling in off-peak season, which reduces the overall points cost per night.

If you redeem your rewards for anything beyond hotel bookings, be prepared for significantly lower conversion rates. For example, looking at the IHG rewards catalog, a Bose speaker is advertised on the IHG rewards site for 68,000, but the same speaker retails for around $119 , meaning your points are only worth about 0.17 cents each.

If you not only want to earn a high volume of points but want to make each point as valuable as you can, stick to travel purchases and redemptions like offsetting the cost of hotel stays or redeeming for free nights at select locations. The closer you get to the point’s 0.7-cent value, the better off you are.

Rates and fees

The IHG Traveler card doesn’t charge an annual fee or foreign transaction fees. It comes with a variable APR range of 21.49 percent to 28.49 percent. The low end of this range hovers around the current average credit card interest rate , which isn’t the worst for a travel card.

The card does not offer any introductory purchase or balance transfer APR, which isn’t unusual for a hotel credit card. The card’s late and returned payments can both cost up to $40 each, which is also fairly standard for a rewards credit card.

While these aren’t exactly the best rates and fees for a no-annual-fee card , they likely aren’t high enough to be a deal-breaker for travelers, especially since frequent international IHG guests are saved from the usual 3 percent foreign transaction fee.

Bankrate expert experience

Bankrate contributor Stephanie Zito , a financial specialist on our Expert Review Board , notes the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card’s ability to bring a lot of value to IHG’s suite of brands:

IHG offers many hotel options for both the domestic and international traveler across all price points. From the Holiday Inn to a boutique Kimpton property, all the way to a luxury Intercontinental location, the IHG One Rewards Traveler Card helps you take advantage of both earning and redeeming rewards from the full IHG hotel portfolio without adding the expense of another annual credit card fee. — Stephanie Zito Bankrate Financial Expert Review Board member

How the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card compares to other travel rewards cards

The IHG One Rewards Traveler card is a good choice for travelers who are loyal to the IHG brand but don’t want to pay an annual fee. But if you want a travel rewards card with more benefits or greater flexibility in how you redeem your rewards, there are other options available to you.

IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card vs. IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card

The IHG One Rewards Premier Credit Card is another travel card IHG offers and is a step up in rewards rate, welcome bonus and annual fee for IHG One Rewards cardholders. You’ll pay a $99 annual fee for this option, but if you’re an IHG member, you’ll earn up 26X points on IHG hotel stays (compared to up to 17X with the IHG One Rewards Traveler card). This elevated rewards rate positions you to earn more for each dollar you spend, but you’ll need to make up that annual fee to justify the card. Plus, the welcome bonus for the IHG Premier card is much higher, and the card also rewards cardholders with a free night worth up to 40,000 points each account anniversary.

IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card vs. Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

If you aren’t sold on a hotel card but still want a travel card to reward you well for all the money you spend on flights, hotels and restaurants, the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is an excellent choice. The card earns 5X points on travel purchases made through the Chase Travel℠ Portal, 3X points on dining (plus selecting streaming services and online grocery purchases that exclude Walmart, Target and wholesale clubs) and 2X points on all other travel. Plus, when redeemed through the Chase Travel℠ portal, points receive a 25-percent boost in value, making them worth 1.25 cents each.

While the rewards rate on the Sapphire Preferred seems markedly lower than the earning rate on the IHG card, Chase points are far more valuable than IHG points. In fact, 25 IHG points are worth roughly 17.5 cents when redeemed for stays at IHG locations. Comparatively, 14 Chase Rewards points are worth just as much when redeemed through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal.

While you may earn more points with an IHG card at IHG locations, points through Chase will get you much further. On top of that, you’ll have more redemption flexibility with Chase because you won’t have to worry about sharp dips in value for redemptions outside of hotel stays. You can redeem for flights and hotels at the fixed rate of 1 cent per point, plus the additional 25-percent increase if you use the Chase Travel℠ portal.

Best cards to pair with the IHG One Rewards Traveler Card

If you’re looking for another card to pair with your IHG Traveler card, consider a cash back credit card for everyday spending. While the Traveler card gets you 2X points per dollar for day-to-day spending, you’ll be better served solely using this card for spending at IHG properties, gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants. Then, try using a flat-rate cash back card to earn 1.5 percent to 2 percent back on all other spending.

Bankrate’s Take: Is the IHG One Rewards Traveler Card worth it?

When it comes to hotel credit cards , IHG’s offerings stand out for their ability to maximize point-earning by combining card and rewards club bonuses. But with few perks and lower-than-average points redemption value, this card may not be the best fit for travelers looking to maximize the value of their rewards.

If you’re a frequent guest of IHG properties and combine the Traveler card with another cash back option, it offers solid benefits to help reduce the cost of travel. But if IHG options aren’t your preferred properties, consider another travel or cash back card.

The vacation village in Kissimmee…

The vacation village in Kissimmee Florida is a joke this place hire the worst employees completely rude and ignorant. I will never stay at this resort again they also changed the bus schedule without telling anyone saying we shoulda have looked at a second bus schedule that we never received I looked at soon as I got back to our room never did they give it to us and told me to bad not there problem and left 30 of us waiting for a bus in the cold that would never come and said they next bus wasn't for 3 hrs. This place is so unorganized I would never recommend this to anyone.if I could give 0 stars I would this place doesn't even deserve 1 star

Total Rip Off!

I have been an unfortunate member/victim of this organisation for the past 3 years. I became a member as part of my unfortunate purchase of a time share with Vacation Village Florida. RCI make it virtually impossible to use your time share option saying that resorts where unavailable, however when you looked to use your points(Which expire unless you pay them even more money to renew) at the same resort, where available for booking. When booking a hire car they gave us no information as to who with and there was no one to call as their offices were shut over the weekend. To top it off I had to put a £3000 deposit down as security for the car rental on the credit card! I had also previously booked and paid £5000 for a cruise for myself and my wife. We were told that the voucher was valid for 3 years. When we went to book the cruise after 18 months we were informed that we needed to have booked within 18 months! Instead they changed the holiday to a villa holiday not worth £2000. Where I was made to feel like a second class resident, been told I had to pay a fee for every day I used the pool among other additional charges. RCI also converted £2000 to credit however when I tried to use this credit (That I have already paid) they only let you use less than 8% of it against a booking. So for a £800 booking I could only use £75 of the credit. therefore I would have had to of spent over £25000 on bookings within one year, to have redeemed this money! Money I had already paid them. When trying to cancel my membership they inform me for the first time that I have to give them 12 months notice. In the mean time they have continued to take monthly payments of £150 but have discontinued my access to my account and the ability to use the service I am being charged for. This company is little more than a boarder line legal con!

I will make sure to let the people I…

I will make sure to let the people I know and don't know, to never sign up with rci. You get only 24 hrs after you book your trip to cancel even if you booked it months ago. The employee could care less and the supervisor was far worse no wonder their employees don't give a s**** . We told them we are cancelling our membership after 2 years and all they said that's fine we don't care. ( Exact words used by the supervisor) . Whoever reads this please don't ever sign up with rci your better off saving and finding the promos yourself. They sell you promises but only end up getting lies once you arrive at the resort. We payed 2 grand for something that was supposed to be covered by this horrible company.

RIP off RCI charges and appalling customer service

Had to give a one in order to review. I have just tried to make a reservation through the RCI chat line. I pay my membership fee, a platinum membership fee and am asked either to pay an exchange fee of £181 or £215 if I want to protect my points! I asked RCI to contact the resort to confirm that I would receive the unit that had been deposited as The RCI rep advised that this unit would not necessarily be the one I received. The resort has sea facing and non sea facing units and the deposited unit was sea facing. He refused. I asked him for the resort contact information which he sent. Within minutes of contacting the resort I received a reply from them stating the unit no deposited was the one we would have. What an appalling organisation RCI is to employ people who don’t know their job and are not prepared to put themselves out. Just interested in doing as little as possible for exorbitant fees.

Goodico Beware

Goodico has poor communication and packaging! The order I received was unsealed and leaking bottles, oils spilled all over the box and papers inside. I also ordered my daughter a set and when I flew in for her birthday to give it to her, hers was leaking as well! I have emailed them and sent photos twice and have not had any resolution. I would rather a refund, as I now see that this company doesn't respond promptly.

NO HOT WATER

They want us to buy into this mess and we can’t even get running hot water. Contacted the people at the resort they said they have nothing to do with it, contacted vacation village and they said it’s nothing they can do for us. Who would pay all that money to buy into their resorts. I would be crazy if I did.

RCI Rep Rude on Phone

Good luck if you have to call RCI and ask them about your account. The service rep was rude and inconsiderate. The one I got questioned me and started ranting so much that I had to hang up on him. I never do that, so obviously I was very frustrated. I did glean an answer out of his rant, so thank goodness I don’t have to call him back.

ZERO stars, waste of money, you never have enough points to use them and they make you pay to renew them , but they still expire. Total Waste of Money, Expedia and other travel sites have way cheaper deals.. This is a disappointment!

Horrendous Trade out in Massachusetts

Am sharing a letter I just sent to RCI, after a horrendous experience in a time share trade out through them Rci October 8, 2019 To Whom This May Concern: This complaint, the very first, in twenty five years of world travel, that my husband Michael F Scheidle, and I, Sherry A Scheidle, are sending you, is in regards to a VERY UNPLEASANT trade out stay we recently had in a RCI establishment in Massachusetts. The name of the establishment is The Harwich Port Resort. Address, 558 Main St, Harwich Port, MA 02646, USA. Resort ID 5008 We checked in on 9/21/2019, checked out on 9/28/2019. Our Timeshare we own is at Garza Blanca, Puerto Vallerta, Mexico. Upon arriving at the Harwich Port, we were initially appalled at the dirtiness and lack of maintenance of our studio. We unpacked and just as I (Sherry) was starting to take a shower, the toilet started backing up, NOT from our use, and raw sewage began coming up into it....then the toilet overflowed, threatening to reach the carpeting, near our bed. We grabbed all towels and put them around the toilet. I (Sherry) immediately called the office.....they were closed, but gave an emergency number....I called it, told them what was happening....asked if at least they had a plunger....no they didn’t...I then told them the sewage was getting on the carpet, and asked them to call a plumber, they said they had no authority to do that. I then called the RCI emergency number.....they could find nothing for us to move into. About twenty minutes after the calls, someone from the office appeared and brought us keys to another unit. There was no offer of help to move our things to the other unit....by this time both my husband and I were furious....the next unit was worse than the first as far as the maintenance and dirt were involved. The vertical window blinds were broken, the second closet for clothing could barely be used as the dirty sectional couches they had in it were blocking it, and it was obvious no one had cleaned well, lots of dirt and dust and cobwebs everywhere, and it was evident that the corners of the room had not been vacuumed in who knows how long.......filfth was abundant in the corners of the bathroom, I (Sherry) personally used wet wipes I had with me to clean this....the refrigerator door handle had major back up of grunge, the paint was peeling from the bathroom ceiling, the mattress on the bed was ancient, and had a piece of memory foam on it with other people’s hair imbedded in it. The carpet had stains on it, and the bed appeared to have been used, with sand and pubic hairs on the sheets,,,,,we used some extra sheets in the closet to change the bed......it was disgusting. This establishment had the gall to put in the form we signed upon arriving, that we could incur additional charges for any dirty dishes or food left in the refrigerator We had things on our agenda for sight seeing, so we decided to stay, and live with what we had, after we cleaned up the unit ourselves a bit. There was NO housekeeping service whatsoever, we had to empty our own trash, and if we wanted any clean linens or towels or toilet tissue or kleenex or soap, we had to call during office hours and meet an office person in a sordid laundry room, between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, which interfered on two occasions with our ability to change towels due to sightseeing trips. This caused us to have to use hand towels and wash cloths to dry off with after showers in the evening. When we did exchange dirty linens and towels, for clean replacements, we had to carry them ourselves to the laundry room, and count out what was brought, and personally bring the clean ones back to our unit. We found out the following day upon arriving, that 4 total units had sewage backup the same as we had, and the occupants had to be given new rooms. It took this establishment 2 days to get someone in to fix the problem and clean the units....and we are sure the carpet area where the sewage was, did not get professionaly cleaned. This exchange was supposed to be an equivalent to Garza Blanca. It was far below that. We have a nice home with nice amenities, but Garza Blanca is even superior to our own home. We receive clean linens and towels professionally every day at Garza Blanca, along with daily housekeeping. If we should leave dirty dishes in our sink there, they are washed and put away without us asking. Garza Blanca also uses first quality towels and linens, Harwich Port Resort uses towels and linens that are so old and worn we would not use them for cleaning rags. We sold out a timeshare we had with Marriott, to Garza Blanca, and bought in to RCI through Garza Blanca and were told how much better an experience we would have with RCI. This is our first trade out with RCI. To even get this trade out we had to upgrade to a Platinum Membership, what a joke. We had much better trade outs through Interval when we had the Marriott timeshare. Bottom line is, we feel extremely cheated by RCI in what we got as a trade for Garza Blanca, we have stayed in places in the jungle in Costa Rica, that were better maintained and cleaner. Harwich Port Resort needs to immediately be taken off the RCI list of places to exchange for. It would be really nice if RCI could give us back the week we traded for. Sincerely Michael F And Sherry A Scheidle

Massanutten RCI Resort Massanutten VA.

Massanutten RCI Resort Massanutten VA. My wife and I stayed at this resort and was thoroughly disgusted with the way we were treated. The room we were assigned had the following issues. 1 The first room assigned 281E the mattress on the bed was worn to where it had huge dips on each side. When I informed the front desk they made me wait until they could find a supervisor to switch rooms. 2. The room they assigned us 283k had the same mattress issue, again I had to go thru the supervisor, he gave me the option to move within the same bldg but it might not be any better, so he had the mattress exchanged and it wasn't any better 3.The carpet was so filthy that my white socks turned black on the bottom. The furniture was extremely worn out. 4. The bldg had constant water issues that made the room smell. 5. The lamp outlets only had one electrical socket that worked. Is this the way RCI works? Finding the worst accommodations for their clients?

These guys suck,I bought a time share in Cabo San Lucas at a Sandos resort. Rci got involved and this crap show began, they changed me $242 keep my points and tried to make me pay it every year, Sandos charged $100 a year. They trade vacations at different resorts . Don't deal with these rip offs.

Called to check on cancellation due to Hurricane

Called to check on cancellation due to Hurricane and the supervisor NO JOKE told me they didn't need to cancel at all, it was a courtesy. This is Hurricane Dorian we are talking about and a reservation in Hilton Head THE DAY its supposed to hit. We were evacuated from Charleston, you can't fly there, you can't drive there. The state has declared a state of emergency. I can not stand this company and wish we had never been gifted the timeshare. Disgusting response. This is just one example of a string of terrible experiences with this company. We hardly even use it due to units never being available and I had to block their sales numbers as they consistently did not put me on a do not contact list after I requested this due to harassing calls to buy further credits, change terms - absolute garbage company.

Do not fall for their sales pitch

Do not fall for their sales pitch. While visiting Sedona Arizona we made a stupid mistake and sat for a sales pitch that promised us this great point system and wonderful vacations. This was 3 years ago and after buying into it for over 7 thousand dollars only used it once for an all inclusive vacation in Punta Cana which after paying the extra all inclusive fees ended up paying as much as I would have if I booked it from an on line company. Now ever year maintenance fees go up and whenever I look on line to find a place we want to visit there is nothing available, usually they have only 1 night available . Also the reviews of the places are usually always bad. Called them now because we were told at our presentation that they can buy them back but not so. So now to get out of this horrible situation we have to give them another $2000.00 and lose any points we have this year which were just renewed. So over $9000.00 down the drain. Buyers beware of this company.

Nightmare Experience!

I have been an RCI member for over 30 years. Worst experience ever today when booking guest certificate. Agent misspelled name on certificate and when I immediately called back to correct I spent about 30 minutes on phone due to agent’s inability to correct. I was told it would take several days to correct their mistake and receive corrected guest certificate. Very frustrating experience. PLEASE TRAIN AGENTS. Cost increases and quality of assistance decreases!

RCI Australia Two for One Cruise deals are NOT good value at all, they list on their special website as two for one but at a price which is nearly double the price of same ship, date, room on the cruise website. The worst company ever

The worst company ever. I have been a member for more than 26 yrs. At the beginning, this company had many places for exchange. Then , It became a waste of garbage. All resorts are not resorts, are full of all inclusive which you pay less when you get it with any online company. Moreover, If it is not all inclusive, they are star 1 places. You can get rid of RCI You can bank your week with another company. Now, I have to pay even if I am not the day of the check in. So, I pay for the exchange a big ton of money, then for not being there. At the end, I should get a regular hotel. Lets get together to get rid of this THIEVES

31 years of ownership membership…

31 years of ownership membership number 1174-00180 ,RCI were once terrific , not so now , impossible to secure weeks but RCI continues to take our membership fees. Consultants in Singapore are blissfully unaware that ( eg) Kyneton in Victoria Australia is not “ just out of town “ referring to Sydney NSW but some 1000 Klms away. From our point of view ,this is , a loss of timeshare weeks , time wasting ,frustrating & a total waste of money Please have a senior consultant call and convince us why we should continue being financial members of RCI Australia

  1. Top 890 Reviews From Legit RCI Buyers

RCI author review by Lisa Ann Schreier. RCI is one of the largest brokers of timeshare properties in the world. The company was founded in1974 by Christel DeHaan, and they offer a wide range of ...

  2. RCI Reviews

You look at other travel companies like Expedia and Booking.com the prices are cheaper. The RCI Exchange Plus is exactly like that. You pay the same price + you lose 10K plus of your exchange points. This company should be investigated for fraud and consumer abuse and stealing from hard working taxpayers.

  3. Is RCI worth it?

YES RCI is worth belonging to as long as you do it right and take advantage of the deals. If you only travel once a year or bought a $30,000 timeshare to join you probably won't see the benefit. But as beanb41 says, if you are flexible there is no better way to travel. I will never stay in a hotel if I can help it.

  6. RCI Reviews

I could stomach the annual maintenance costs if RCI had an affordable exchange option, what with the membership fees, an excessive weekly exchange fee and now the con of upgrading to platinum, its cheaper to rent out our unit and just book a holiday with a normal travel company.

  7. RCI vs Interval International?

13 reviews. 4 helpful votes. RCI vs Interval International? 12 years ago. I have been a timeshare owner in Freeport Bahamas for 15 years. I have been a member of RCI for the entire length of time as well. I have only been back to the original location 2 times in the 15 years as my desire was to travel to many more places which I have done.

  10. Is RCI worth it?

I am most upset.I feel cheated, again, by RCI, and by the resort club, and I feel that the system is a legal robbery system for all concerned except the poor slob who bought the thing in the first place.so far, NO it isn't worth it seems to be the consistent answer for every experience I have had. But- btw - the staff are really nice- just the organizational rules don't work for anyone's ...

  11. Has anyone tried Palladium Travel Club and used their RCI ...

My wife and I travel a lot, we just got 30 weeks with the travel club and 30 weeks with RCI which say that we only have to pay $599 for a week lodging at a couple of hotels around the world. Has anyone used this or, more importantly, used their worldwide weeks, and are there a lot of hidden fees?
