PERU MACHU PICCHU ADVENTURE

This Peru motorcycle adventure in southern Peru is an epic loop through incredible mountains and along the rugged Pacific coast. We believe it to be some of the best-paved riding in the world.  This 12 day ride was designed to have both long and short days and to acclimate riders to the high altitude we hit on occasion during the ride. Along the way, visit the mysterious lines of Nazca. Take a tour to Machu Picchu (included in the tour price), and marvel at one of the seven wonders of the world. Ride through the Andes, to heights of 15,600 ft and experience the unbelievable Pan American Highway along the remote Pacific Coast. From the Nazca lines to Machu Picchu to strolling the streets of Cuzco, this motorcycle ride will be unforgettable.

* Even though this is an all-paved itinerary, there will be portions of the ride that will be dirt surface. Latin America hands it to you sometimes.

Road Conditions: This motorcycle adventure is paved with extraordinary sections with curves and altitude change. Pavement is in good conditions with some rough sections and some gravel sections due to road contruction.

The itinerary, arrival day.

DAY 1 - Arrive in Arequipa, Peru: Your motorcycle adventure starts with your arrival in Arequipa, Peru. This bustling city is Peru's second largest, and features a historic center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner in the evening. Stay in Arequipa.

DAY 2 - Arequipa to Camana: Bike pick-up and ride out to Majes Valley, home to the river that runs through the deepest canyon in the world - Colca Canyon. Ride along the river valley to the farming community of Camana. Stay in Camana.

DAY 3 - Camana to Chala: Get ready for one of the best rides in your life as you climb out of Colca Canyon and skirt the Pacific Ocean coastline on the Panamerican Highway. Traffic is sparse, and the the epic coastline views are unforgettable. Stay in Chala.

DAY 4 - Chala to Nazca: Continue along the Pacific Coast to Nazca, home to one of the most mysterious archeological sites in the world: The Nazca Lines. Hundreds of mysterious lines are etched in the surface of the desert for miles. A flightsee over the lines is an option for today. Stay in Nazca.

DAY 5 - Nazca to Chalhuanca: Jump on your motorcycle and climb into the Andes on incredibly twisty roads and ascend and descend over 20,000 feet before lunch. Witness superb mountain views, fantastic paved curves and indigenous herding communities. Stay in Chalhuanca.

DAY 6 - Chalhuanca to Ollantaytambo: Today the motorcycle adventure leads you to the Sacred Valley of the Incas to a town rich in Incan history: Ollantaytambo. Much of the town is a showcase of Incan architecture. Truly, one of the best riding days anywhere! Stay in Ollataytambo.

DAY 7 - Visit to Machu Picchu: We'll ride the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, and explore the ruins of this ancient Incan city. Recently named one of the Seven Wonders of the World and designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, Machu Picchu will deliver. Stay in Ollataytambo.

DAY 8 - Free Day, Ollantaytambo: Ride with your guide into the Amazon Basin by way of a precarious road through an ever changing variety of plants and animals. For those who want, stay in Ollantaytambo, and explore a town locked in time surrounded by Inca ruins and rockwork! Stay in Ollataytambo.

DAY 9 - Ollantaytambo to Cusco: We'll continue back through the Sacred Valley of the Incas on a short ride to the historic capital of the Incan empire, Cusco. Walk the streets and take in the central plaza. Stay in Cuzco. (B)

DAY 10 - Free Day in Cusco: Explore Cusco with its up and down streets, beautiful stonework, and discover the juxtaposition of Incan architecture, both ancient and modern. Hire a local guide for the day to take you in and around Cuzco, visiting various archeological sites. Stay in Cuzco.

DAY 11 - Cusco to Puno: Motorcycle all day through the Andes, ending at the shores of Lake Titicaca. Puno rests at the edge of the lake. You can take an optional boat tour of the mystical Reed Islands, and visit the families that live, floating on the lake. Stay in Puno.

DAY 12 - Puno to Chivay: Leave the shores of Lake Titicaca, top out at 16,000 feet before arriving in scenic Chivay, Chivay is located in Colca Canyon, the world's second deepest canyon. Stay in Chivay.

DAY 13- Chivay to Arequipa: Take a sojourn down Colca Canyon, looking for the famed Condor. Descend into Arequipa at the end of the day. There is also another road that we may try which might not be all paved...adding to the adventure! Stay in Chivay. Farewell Dinner tonight!

DAY 14 - Fly Home or keep the dream alive. The next motorcycle adventure vacation awaits!

Abancay to Ayacucho (390 KM)

Ayachucho to paracas (365 km).

Departing from Ayacucho, nestled high in the Andes Mountains, the journey begins amidst the rugged beauty of the Peruvian sierra. Transitioning from the highlands to the coastal plains, the scenery transforms into vast expanses of desert dunes as Paracas draws near.

Paracas to Huacachina (75 KM)

Huacachina to nazca (150 km).

Nazca to Puerto Inca (180 KM)

Puerto inka to camana (234 km).

The 234-kilometer ride from Puerto Inka to Camana offers stunning coastal vistas, winding through picturesque beaches, arid deserts, and charming coastal towns, culminating in the lively ambiance of Camana’s streets.

Machu Picchu Peru Motorcycle Tour, Riding Adventure in Peru

The highlight-packed country of Peru in South America is a paradise for motorcycle travel, and the Machu Picchu Express tour makes sure you enjoy it all.

With enormous, smoothly-paved sweeping turns through the Andes Mountains and visits to some of the smallest rural villages, the great Peruvian culture and cuisine are all in addition to the fantastic scenery you can witness on this Peru motorcycle tour! We've been offering this same trip package since 2011 now, making minor adjustments along the way, but receiving tremendous praise all the while for the choice of routes, sites, and accommodations.

From the Pacific Coast up to high in the Andes Mountains, the Machu Picchu Express tour fits an amazing adventure ride and string of highlights into just 2 weeks of travel. Got more time available than that? We have other options that include more of the Amazon rainforest regions and other incredible settings in Peru.

Day 1 - Arrival in Arequipa, Peru (AQP airport) 

Welcome to Peru, and the start of your adventure! Friendly faces will be at the airport in Arequipa to greet you, and take you to the hotel which is situated perfectly in the downtown area of the historical city of Arequipa.

Hopefully your flight allows you some time to explore the city before a Welcome Dinner and briefing help everyone focus on the safe, and fun journey ahead.

Day 2 - Arequipa to Puerto Inka

Finally, your RIDE in Peru begins! Out of Arequipa and to the Pacific Coast, we spend the day on twisties and turns on the Panamerican Highway headed north toward Nazca.

Some riders liken this to California's Pacific Coast Highway, but this time you'll probably be shouting with excitement in your helmet ... "I'm riding a motorcycle ... in PERU!" The exhilaration can bring all sorts of emotions, so be sure to keep adrenaline in check and arrive with the group in Puerto Inka for a night listening to the Pacific waves crash and sleep well.

Day 3 - Puerto Inka to Nazca 

The day's ride starts with a chance to enjoy the fascinating and well-preserved Chauchilla Cemetery along the coast and on the way to the city of Nazca.

Once there in Nazca, riders can either opt for a flight over the ancient remnants, or utilize a nearby lookout tower that helps your viewing angle. Either way, say goodbye to the Pacific Ocean, and hello to the Andes Mountains starting tomorrow.

Day 4 - Nazca to Chalhuanca

Up, up, and away! Climbing the Andes Mountains begins today, at a gradual pace to help everyone acclimate to the the elevation change. The overnight stop in the small town of Chalhuanca only happens after this incredible day of twists and turns similar to those of the famous "Tail of the Dragon" in the U.S.

This RIDE is much longer and higher in elevation though, with magnificent cliff walls all around you. Settling down in such a remote village for a night in the Andes Mountains of Peru, get ready for more ahead (and just say that to yourself out loud a few times, thinking about where you are!)

Day 5 -Chalhuanca to Cuzco

For now, enjoy this charming city with plenty of shops and restaurants, and the historic Plaza de Armas which the city centers around.

Day 6 - Rest Day in Cuzco

It's important to rest with all the action going on, so a proper "walking tour" of the city is offered so you can learn more about the history of Cuzco. Or perhaps you'll want to visit the nearby ruins of Saksaywaman for a deeper historical experience? Your Guides will explain the many options for your time in Cuzco.

Day 7 - Cuzco to Ollantaytambo  

Riding a motorcycle through the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru on the way to Machu Picchu: Could there be a more sought after motorcycle travel experience?

Shrouded in ruins and mountains and a valley setting the whole way, Ollantaytambo lies ahead and will serve as a launching point to this highly anticipated site ahead.

Day 8 - Finally...Machu Picchu!

With a multi-day hike or a train ride remaining as the only options to arrive in Aguascalientes, we'll have the train passes arranged for your day trip to the Lost City of the Incas.

"All aboard!" as the comfortable train ride through the Sacred Valley might have your mind wandering to the days of Hiram Bingham, the explorer who slashed his way through this terrain in search of this legendary site. Your Guides will help you with the bus ride from Aguascalientes up to Machu Picchu, for a day of exploring. Make sure your camera's batteries are charged for this one!

Day 9 - Ollantaytambo to Quince Mil

Back in the charming town of Ollantaytambo, the RIDE continues further south toward Lake Titicaca, twisting and turning down into more of an Amazon jungle setting in the town of Quince Mil.

As we strive for with all our tour offerings, the amazing variety that comes with this route is just part of what makes it such an adventure.

Day 10 - Quince Mil to Juliaca 

Now ascending again to the Altiplano (High Plains) heights of the Andes Mountains, more great riding and sweeping turns makes for motorcycle heaven!

With the mountain peaks omnipresent in the distance, and Bolivia to the east, the atmosphere in this very remote stretch of road is perfect for motorcycle travel. It's days like this that will remind you just how vast the country of Peru is!

Day 11 - Juliaca to Puno

Day 12 - Puno to Chivay & the Colca Canyon  

Day 13 - Colca Canyon to Arequipa

Settle down back into the city, and rejoice with your fellow riders about the accomplishments, memories, and experiences you just shared together.

Day 14 - Departure Day

Only if you must! Hopefully you can enjoy Arequipa a bit more before we take you to the airport. It's not uncommon to feel like you need some time off after such a "rich" motorcycle riding experience! (Extra hotel nights can be included with your package.)

If you're planning to jump on a guided tour or training with RIDE Adventures, it's essential that you have the right gear. This helps to ensure your safety and the safety of others while on the road.

Not being properly prepared can lead to injuires that could have been avoided. Our guides have created a Minimum Essential Gear Guide if you plan to book a RIDE Adventures.
